I keep trying this game because it seems interesting but... It feels like they laid all the ground work for a fun game but didn't implement it very well. Like, okay, i can breed new animatroids and they have all these cool different traits but... why? For what purpose? So i can click on them and see "oh wow, this guy looks a little different and is aggressive, that's fun"? lol

Maybe i'm not giving it enough of a chance but it seems like a sad attempt at a Sim Life/Sim Earth with no real goal. Maybe if i played it more I'd see the purpose but at the surface it seems like a pointless game. I feel like it should be more of a top down game instead of a game where you're walking around and doing stuff... The tutorial basically teaches you nothing about the Animatroids, it teaches you how to craft and build. Which... i don't even know the purpose of lol

There's also zombies that i guess build things and eventually you have to like, push them back, so that seems like an attempt at adding some sort of "conflict" to the game but i don't really understand it either.

I'm leaving my comments open in case anyone wants to say "No, but this is why it's fun!" cause it's a game that interests me a lot but i just can't get into it. Maybe it only interests me because i loved Sim Earth as a kid and though this would be an evolution sim like that...

highly recommend if you are a person who likes catching bugs outside or if you would repeatedly look up things like "dino game" "dinosaur game" "dinosaur zoo game" online, and found that online games like dinosaur zookeeper were unsatisfying because they were designed to break out of their enclosures and/or be killed. you can engage in the sandbox and crafting elements while you wait for the fauna and flora to evolve naturally, and while the inventory management and crafting systems are very simple, this is a small, inexpensive game that does exactly what it was designed to, and does it well. 9/10 on the being able to bother the animals scale.

I'd actually say I prefer this to the god-style evolution simulations, because there are things for you to do that don't involve majorly disrupting the simulation or waiting around for things to happen. if the dev does another game, I might be interested in seeing more complex biomes and environments and more animals that affect their surroundings in some way.

The creatures mutate extremely slowly, in a direction you can't control. You can have very few total creatures. Try playing Apico if you want a good genetic engineering game.

The game is very interesting and cool, but as a GAME- which is my priority, I'm not sure that it's really worth it. You might enjoy it, but i just don't think i can "Recommend" the "game"

if you do play it, try islands.

This is not to say it's not GOOD.
I think there's a lot of good stuff in here.
I also think the game has a lot of depth and things to learn.
The problem is that it feels a bit like fully diving in isn't really optional, it's what you HAVE to do in order to make any "progress"

The crafting menu should not require specific ordering of components.

This seemed like the type of game I'd really enjoy as a fan of classic creature sim games like SimEarth, SimLife, and Creatures, but I lost interest very quickly. The species tree was very interesting, but eventually I felt like I was just aimlessly watching the creatures wander around the screen, waiting for something to happen. There didn't seem to be a lot to discover or do as a player (or maybe the very limited tutorial and "find/create everything in a category" style achievements didn't point me in the right direction). It seems a sequel is in the works, so I'm optimistic that it could improve and expand on the things the game does well; I'll be curious to check that out when it releases.

Pour les gens qui joue en francais je vous suggerent de jouer en anglais car il ny as aucunes differences entre rouge et oranges sur le nom des champignons ..les deux sont appeller 'rouge' et c'est très frustrant pour tenter de trouver LE champi orange pour pouvoir construire vos coffre .

For the people playing in french ... there is no difference between red and orange shrooms ... they are all called as 'red' and its pretty frustrating when trying to build your crate ..

You realy need to love some evolution game to enjoy this ...and also love pixel game or you are going to get borred ...you can terraform all the land with enough dirt and you got all sort of weird lil critter that can evolve..i didnt explore everything yet but i played all day long lol ...i restarted 3 times just because i wanted to enclose my shrooms ..when they get going you can't contain them anymore its a mess .. this is not the best game in the world but its can give you some happy hours . i've bought it for 10$ on sale ..and i don't think this is worth more than that ..

It's.. ok. But not worth the price. I've played 1$ mobile games with more content.. Spent an hour trying to make a water creature only to realize the only plant that exists is mushrooms so fully water creatures arent a thing. The zombies are weird to say the least. Ignored them whole game and they never bothered me. Used bubbles to find some amusement when they leave the map and delete themselves by following the bubbles.. but they dont seem to serve any gameplay purpose. Theres not much to build.. It takes a long time to destroy walls and trash is annoying when trying to edit your island and it becomes flooded with trash from digging. My tilled tiles would randomly turn back to grass, causing mass extinctions of my more colourful mushrooms.
The crafting is super odd- It requires you to place the materials in exact order or it won't work. The tiles that say "Zombies love them" don't seem to be very loved by zombies at all. The large map isn't very large at all.

All-in-all, its ok. The concept is there. But really just the concept and not much else. Might like it if you enjoy super basic building on a little map, though bases don't serve a purpose at all either way. I may play more if theres more content added such as more plants, and more decorations. Don't let this review get you down any though dev, I believe you can do great things if you add more content c:

One of those games that have little to no documentation and the dev wants the learning of the game to be thru self-exploration or word of mouth. So you start the game, even after doing the tutorial, not knowing what the hell to do. Most of the game is about the stats of creatures, but they are all super abbreviated on purpose to confuse you on what they mean. So you either have to invest time researching online how to play the game or spend hours doing it yourself. And because this is such an unpopular game, good luck with that.

But this is just a low tier game, it ain't worth the the energy to do either.

The ONLY modern A-Life game you can do a successful Wolfing Run.
For the young ones, that is a term coined by the Creatures series community, which has been on the net since 1999.
Wolfing is leaving your artificial lifeforms to their own devices for several hours, maybe while at work or sleeping, and coming back to a population that has changed, persisted, and survived natural selection factors. Mods are needed for Creatures 2's bugs but the three games can theoretically support a "wild" population of creatures without player input for extended periods.

The Sapling- It's more of an evolutionarily advantageous creature/plant designer than an A-Life sim at this point in time. They don't physically evolve fast enough to keep up with any changes in the environment. You could probably get away with keeping populations alive for several hours of top speed idling but the results would be pretty much the same as what you started with. Not a Wolfing Run if natural selection isn't a pressuring factor.

Species ALRE: crashes after running for five minutes. Pretty sure you could do it on earlier builds but this game is completely broken. (edit: dev returned, game mostly works. will still probably crash before you can see meaningful results though.)

Ecosystem- I actually haven't tried a Wolfing run in this yet. It's probably possible. The first line was clickbait.

Creatura- I don't know if I even want to count this one. The creatures don't really "evolve" except in the pokemon sense, which the player usually needs to cultivate the plant life to achieve much progress in. Plants alone don't count, sorry. Vilmonic has both.

Vilmonic- Your fungi and creatures will survive and evolve without you. You will get an entirely new population in the process. A lot of devs don't seem to understand that making artificial life more lifelike adds something to the experience. Life doesn't need us around and that's beautiful.

I love trying to figure out how to succeed. I love hearing the soundtrack while I am working, on my real life work... I think I have become a fantastic fungol farmer, and I am happy... in a sweetly muted, pixelated kind of way. If you like games that are chill, come back later and see what grew, and also if you love genetics of any kind, you will be happy you have this game.

Vilmonic is a wonderful life-simulating sandbox that really does great work in demonstrating how environments can influence animal behaviors and even to an extent their morphology. It's whimsical and light, without a tremendous quantity of fussy micromanagement. It manages to be so accessible without compromising on its depth either.

It is perpetually expanding, and I have had the tremendous fortune of getting to meet with Mark on his official Vilmonic discord. People have gone as far as cracking the Vilmonic Genome, and there's off and on talk of anim competition, so don't just buy the game. Come be part of the community as well.

I just didn't really have fun playing this. Which sucks. But I don't get it at all. I like evolution sims and this seemed perfect for me, but I couldn't tell what was happening on the screen, didn't appear to have any way to influence the evolution happening, and didn't know what I should (or even could) be doing more generally. I did the tutorial, which taught me how to do things but none of the things the game's description made me want to do. I walked around for 20 minutes trying to dig up tech, but it was all junk and I didn't know if that was part of the bit or not so it felt useless and I stopped. I got a notification one of my monsters evolved. I went back over to see, but I couldn't even tell which one it was. That's when I stopped playing.

The more technical side of things is also weird. This feels like it was made for phones or tablets. The controls are clunky. The ability to grab items is itself an item in your inventory for some reason? That's one of the choices that's weird because it could just be it's own on-screen button if the developer wanted it an on-screen button, but it's an on-screen button in your inventory.

I like the idea of this game a lot. There may be a game here for you. There genuinely might. But I didn't find one. The idea of pixels making monsters is neat. I think that's a great idea for a game. I don't think this is that game. I do think it could be though. I think the real problem with this game are quality of life stuff. A better tutorial. I don't want the tutorial to tell me how to do everything even, just some idea of what I can be doing to progress. "Zombs are attracted to stone". Okay, what do Zombs do? They're bad, but how? In what way? Why would I want to attract them? Anything really. The tutorial taught me to move, build, grab, and plant. I wanted to play this game very badly, but I've never felt like I didn't understand a game more than here. I'm going to cut off this rambling now.

[*] Ви починаєте свій шлях на простому острові, де ви знайдете купу сміття, пару рослин, аніматроїда, за яким ви стежитимете, і кілька тих, хто поїхав, від яких краще триматися подалі. Сам острів складається з землі, скель і повністю оточений водою, саме з цим вам доведеться поратися по ходу гри. А саме проходження може зайняти не один десяток годин, адже завдань перед вами достатньо.

[*]Основним для вас є підтримка життя для аніматроїдів та фунголів[spoiler](це ваші рослини)[/spoiler]. І ось тут ви починаєте стикатися з проблемами, які не завжди можна очікувати. І поки ви за цим усім стежите, з'являються великі шанси на появу нового виду. Процес еволюції відбувається у кожного виду по-різному, тому поява нового виду може бути несподіваною.

Але з їхніми запасами проблем не повинно виникнути, адже вони виростають швидко і у великих кількостях.

Повірте, воно вам не потрібне. Замість удару лопатою краще оточити свою територію водою, адже вони її ненавидять. Для цього ідеально підійде басейн.

У цій грі безліч різних умов, які вам потрібно пізнати і дотримуватися, перші пару ігор будуть для вас справжнім випробуванням, адже ви будете вчитися на своїх помилках, але далі вам буде набагато легше, і ви відчуйте справжнє задоволення від того, якого крутого аніматроїду ви змогли виростити. its an evolution game.
its fun for the first 5 hours.
then... its like the game likes to play by himself.
its so open ended, that it ends to soon.
the controlls are horrible i wish i could play it with an xbox controller.

playing with exporting, making and importing your own species it's a funidea but tedious in execution, having to go to windows paint and back.
also, the game never informs you how to do it, i had to read like hours of internet text to learn it.
if you like this, then try biogenesis. is even simpler (going from 8 bit to vector graphics), and the "color mod" its brillant.

BUT!
still.
for what it cost, and the hours i got from it...
i recomend it, but take in mind that still in version 1.0 it needs a lot of polishing.

Info Game:
In this game you try to evolve mushrooms, animatroids and different types of lands. The game has a nice tutorial to learn you the basics of the game, but it don't tells you how to evolve mushrooms or get different kind of animatroid. . Part of this game is figuring out how to make those, but there is a nice guide who tells you a bit more about evolving in the steam guide section.

Info achievements:
I like this kind of achievements. It gives you a goal in this almost sandbox style game. This game has a few grinding achievements, but I unlocked already 50% of them in 3 hours. I wish there was already a guide for the achievements because a few of them are a bit unclear. Most are clear in what you're supposed to do.

見た目はシンプルだが、中身はちょっと複雑
生み出した生命用に、食料（キノコ）と水を確保することが大事
しかし適当にやってもスムーズに進化しないので、クラフトした物でエリアを分けたりする必要がある

最初からいるゾンビトンは近づくと攻撃してくるため、厄介なので隔離したりしよう
（共存することも可能らしい）

Идея крайне интересная, но в текущем виде игра походит даже не на бету, а на курсовую по информатике.
Плюсы: крайне интересная идея с развитием растений/"животных" через генетические алгоритмы. Интересная идея крафта в таком мире.
Минусы: отвратительный интерфейс, отсутствие возможности хоть как-то оценить развитие.

Potentially great game let down by stupid design decisions. It looks a lot more complicated than it is, because there just isn't all that much variation in the creatures you can breed. There's animals and plants, but there are only a few types of each. The game advertises that "Colors have Meaning!" but unfortunately that also seems to mean that there are only as many ways to vary them as there are colors.

From what I can tell, each different pixel that your creatures have affects their behavior in a slightly different way, which sounds cool but the behaviors are so limited that it doesn't mean much in the long run. There's no way to know if a creature is confident or scared from looking at it, so while sometimes they pick fights with each other and so on, it's impossible to tell why unless you keep an encyclopedic memory of what each species does, which is hard because they all look almost exactly the same.

Summary of the growing parts: I was hoping for hundreds upon hundreds of plants and animals that would get steadily more and more complicated as the game went on. Sure, they start out as mushrooms and blobs, but I was hoping that (kinda like in Birthdays The Beginning) you'd see the final stage of evolution where there were palm trees and primates running around or something. Instead they just stay boring old mushrooms, and the animals remain as weird little bug-things.

And of course, what does any peaceful farming game about evolving your own lifeforms need? ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE! These are the epitome of the 'Godd*mned Bats' trope in TVTropes, which it summarizes as "Weak enemies that exist primarily to annoy the player character. They probably aren't gonna kill you, but they're certainly going to harass you and slow you down". While you're in the middle of breeding your little pets, sometimes a zombie will wander in and start taking swipes at you.

But see, they're like Internet trolls. If you take the bait and fight back, bad things happen to you. Specifically if you kill a zombie, the gameplay shifts dramatically. Normally there are a few zombies wandering around, but if you kill one, it goes up to around 20 zombies, and they all run straight up to you, smashing down your fences and house walls and basically anything else you made. You can make yourself invisible to them by hiding in toxic waste that you're able to spread around, and you can bludgeon them with your trowel (no really, that's your primary weapon), but more will come in 5-10 seconds and start bashing at your gates again.

Summary of the zombie parts: As far as I can tell, once you commit the mortal sin of killing a zombie, there is no way to undo it and stop their rage. It's the equivalent of using meteor strikes on your city in SimCity or Skylines - only do it if you want to create a disaster that you will never come back from.

Final thoughts: If Vilmonic was $3-5 I would say "Go for it, just be aware it's only going to give you a few hours of entertainment before you see how shallow it is." But the price they're asking is downright extortion and the artificial life is poo-quality, "read one book by a self-published author on Amazon Kindle about how to make artificial life", barely-playtested type stuff. And the zombies OH MY GOD WHY. It feels like the developer just did whatever the flip they felt like and then said "Ta-da!" and expected money for it.

Wow this is not what I was hoping for.

As I write this review I'm looking at the title card for the game, which has water, people, brick walls, a fence, and trees, and it still makes some part of me that hasn't learned better think "wow, I bet this is gonna be great". But what it doesn't tell you is that you're looking at basically everything in the entire game in that one little screenshot. It feels like a bait-and-switch to me.

I was expecting something where I could breed shy lifeforms that would get scared easy, aggressive ones that would go RAR and hunt them across the map in big epic fights, and since the game description mentions digging up lost technology, I was looking forward to a slowly-unfolding story about what happened to the dystopian world the game is set in. Or maybe they'd be special items that would open new life paths. But instead of it being anywhere near that exciting, when you dig up an old item, it just says "Junk".

And that's how I feel about Vilmonic. Junk. I normally wouldn't use such a cruel word for something that somebody put their life into for multiple years, but I haven't been more excited about a game in years, nor more disappointed.

Vilmonic starts off with a great core concept, and then you expect it to bloom and fill with variation, and then it doesn't.

The Short of it: Interesting indie oddity, with pixel graphics and a nostalgic interface. Almost like a mini-god simulator: grow/breed new lifeforms, keep them fed, and form the landscape. Relaxing, experimental fun.

This game is incredibly charming, I love the free form exploration and crafting. I can see myself spending some time cultivating little biomes of different species and terraforming the map. So far everything seems pretty straightforward, but I can also tell there's a depth to explore and really dig the generational mutation mechanic.

It's still pretty early for me, but I really dig the premise and think the game looks great! Give it a try!

The tutorial is kind of irritating - I really miss a well written Help-List with ALL information needed to understand the stats (what the hell do all these things mean? Are they traits, elements? What is it with this brain table? Why should I care about the bone structure?). Don't get me wrong. I am ok with experimenting BUT how can you experiment well without knowing your instruments?

Terrifying zombipocalpyse game where all you have to defend yourself are tamagotchi pets and an endless supply of mushrooms!

Seriously though: it's an adaptable game. It can either be very relaxed, or quite involved, all depending on how you choose to play. I first tried it out after a long day at work and dozed off for a few minutes listening to the game noises and watching the creatures move around. I woke up and found not much had changed apart from some new looking creatures and different arrangements of mushrooms sprouting up.

Then I decided to follow the game direction. It instructs you to build some new things and have a more involved part in the breeding and the proliferation of mushrooms and animals, all while keeping the zomboids in check. Doing this I found the game can actually be a challenge.

The breeding of animals (animatrons) requires you create specific conditions in segregated little areas. Then either contain or herd the creatures you want to breed in there. It's challenging getting it set up right, moving the creatures in there, and ensuring they are well provided for with food (fungols) and water to breed.

In order to progress in crafting things, you'll need some specific mushroom color types. This can be accomplished by digging up and utilizing radioactive materials that mutate your farm, causing mushrooms to grow in different varieties. At least that's how I think I got the colors I didn't have (red and yellow) to finally grow.

Meanwhile, your mushroom patches and breeding areas get invaded by the zomboids who spaz out if you start killing their kind, and respond by altering the landscape in their own way by building little dungeons over your mushroom patches.

So, this is the sort of game you can just mess around in and let it live and transform all on it's own while you do your own thing. Or you can work to micro-manage and develop it the way you want fine tuning the farm, controlling the zomboid invasion, and terraforming the map.

Where the game could use improvement:

I don't like mashing keys. It would be nice, rather than having to tap spacebar over and over, to just be able to hold it down to rapidly dig.

[spoiler]Once I had built a moat around the game map, and then a wall/fence inside that, I was able to block the zomboids from the map. They would just hang out in their one-block-space outside the wall, no longer presenting any challenge. Would be nice if they randomly took down a wall if it was in their path. Allowing them to escape from buildings or get through perimeter walls to run amok again for some added challenge.[/spoiler]

Parasites might be a nice challenge too. Fungols and animantons with a parasitic nature that try to kill off all but their own specific breed. Requiring the player erradicate the breed to protect diversity.

Intersting game though, recommend it as it is, nice work!

Я однажды настолько обезумела желанием разобрать игру на кусочки, что забросала этими кусочками разработчика (сначала он отвечал подробно из-за непривычки, а потом просто кратко благодарил, вообще широчайшая душа). Однако даже если я многое знаю о деталях и возможностях, мне всё равно не хватает биогенетического менталитета (я менее всего разбирала сущность проживания аниматроидов, что, однако, покрыли другие желающие), а самой игре, безусловно, не хватает контента и сюжета с концовкой. Вместе с тем, даже если это недоделанная игра, мне бы хотелось излить свои основные соображения по её поводу.

Вильмоник - такая игра, которая при помощи небольшого количества пикселей создаёт огромные системы, при чём в столь перспективной сфере исследования как биологическая эволюция. Она занимает огромное место в моей геймерской истории, поскольку вдохновила на исследование геймдева и создание собственных пикселизированных концептов, дала возможность впервые подробнейшим образом разобрать игру, опираясь на доступный мне на форуме и в самой игре материал, побудила создавать летсплеи, а соответственно и начать делать видео, а также поставила передо мной важный вопрос о том, какую деятельность я ценю в игре, особенно это касается коробочноскиннерного крафтинга и строительства, про которые некоторые критики отзывались не особо ласково, подчёркивая, что Вильмоник больше делает упор на развитие грибов с усатыми утюгами, чем на какое-либо наведение домашнего уюта, который больше играет роль функциональную, например, разделить местности или изменить тип почвы, на которых существуют существа. Я пыталась создать летсплейную серию, опираясь на строительство, и почувствовала жёсткие ограничения, напоминающие мне масштабы майнкрафта: необходимы дни или даже недели, чтобы создать большой проект, вроде огромной лаборатории, с ящиками, наполненными всевозможными ресурсами, и разными исследовательскими камерами, что превосходно подошло бы к стилю игры, однако моего терпения всё же не хватило.

Среди слабых сторон игры можно назвать гипертрофированный масштаб. Даже если существа живут всего лишь минуты, а с каждой генерацией отличаются друг от друга как внешне, так и по статам (связь этих элементов является целью разработчика), всё равно ощущаешь себя как мелкая сошка в огромном океанском бурлящем чане. Ресурсы приходится собирать как атомы, и складывается много ненужных, но которые необходимо всякий раз при нужде две тысячи раз крафтить в что-то другое, существа распространяются по карте, если их не ограничивать, и хаотично бегают без какой-либо цели кроме как выжить и жрать, зомби никогда не исчезают с карты и при возмущении зовут своих дружков, а гены тяжело модифицировать (до появления яиц и новых прародителей вообще нельзя было запустить новую ветку развития вручную). Основные цели разработчика - создать живую экосистему, и большинство игроков тестируют то, какие они могут получить гены и внешности, однако это занятие со временем исчерпывает себя, поскольку гены, несмотря на, временами, экзотичность, остаются крайне упрощёнными. То, что в последней бете считается "мозгами" в табличке, пускай и имеет смысл, но сильно сложно для восприятия, и со стороны выглядит больше как вариация рандома, чем как более сложное поведение с новыми этапами в решениях.

Из сильных сторон игры, кроме уже сказанного, стоит упомянуть информационные чарты: изменяющееся в реальном времени досье каждого живого существа (грибы, аниматроиды, зомботроны), список генетических веток. Очень милой является предыстория, смешивающаяся с артстилем и тематикой крафта (грибные двери, например, это не шутка, а прямой результат системы крафтинга). Больше всего интригуют зомби, являясь ниточкой к таинственным фактам о прошлом сеттинга. Вместе с тем, сильные стороны очень связаны с дополнительными слабыми. Когда я обозревала детали игры, я придумала много пожеланий, и теперь отсутствие реализации этих пожеланий особенно расстраивает меня. Например, хочется более тонкого сохранения информации, альбомы для фотографий, какие-нибудь там логи экспериментов, да и больше фактов о сеттинге, в конце концов. Но больше всего жаль, что меня мало интересует главная сильная сторона игры - биологическая эволюция в вакууме, двух вымышленных видов, фунголов и аниматроидов. Эти виды весьма ограничены в особенностях, в отличие от земной биологической системы, и не могут продемонстрировать, как эволюция от вида к виду имеет огромное значение. В Вильмоник, по сути, возможно создать всё что угодно из чего угодно: берёшь водного и делаешь его сухопутным, берёшь красное и делаешь его синим, это как пластилин. Или наоборот, одна и та же разновидность распространяется по всему континенту, и только лишь досье опишут, насколько они якобы разные.

Быть богом это сложно. Я благодарна этой игре за демонстрацию одной из сторон этой сложности. И, конечно же, буду ждать новых патчей, которые разработчик планирует выпускать аж всю свою жизнь, поскольку Вильмоник это его детище. А такую страсть я тем более уважаю.

I love it. Seemed simple... almost too simple when I started. It has a few tools and a few types of land. I started experimenting with different stuff and found the combinations vast to procure different outcomes.

I decided to set up little cages and moved anims in to different ones and tried to breed different fugi in each. Then got into playing with the zombs and seeing what they're about and building them houses. They're not really about anything other than slapping you around if you get to close. That is one thing I'd like to see expanded on... Kind of like the mean grindles in Creatures I became fascinated with the lifeless zombs.

Now I'm playing around with a "natural" world wolfing run... Divided the land into wetland, midrange grassland and mountainous tundra and killed some zombs to see if they'd be come more annoying like it sort of says in the little help menu. Seems to be a lot different than my first zoo attempt.

Anyway, yes I recommend it! It's been entertaining to mould an ecosystem and I'm looking forward to any updates that add to the fun.

Vilmonic is a sandbox game which focuses on the evolution of alien species called anims; they adapt to environments, go extinct, go through periods of population peaks... Anims change shape as they try to find a way to fulfil their role in a niche, when faced with competition from other anims. I have high hopes for this game, and I believe the developer will continue to grow it.

Vilmonic for me is a concept game, it is still in beta as I write this, the game has potential to inspire many into pursuing perhaps even careers in genetics, or simply educating people in times where evolution has been considered controversial. It has a friendly aesthetic for new users, the control schemes can be somewhat clunky.

As a game it could use some improvements for user-friendliness. Hotkey support, more options for world gen. Better inventory management. The graphics are passable, but do require some work with regards to blending, and the gameplay is calm. Zombitrons, the only antagonistic element in the game toward the player (other than slightly aggressive anims) pose a background threat rather than being the main focus.

Game balancing is closely monitored by the developer, experiments are carried out often and tend to allow diversity of the anims whilst making the game interesting. Anims do not adapt very well to environments that they are not suited, and so, due to pressure they may die out. If not, evolutionary leaps can be observed as they struggle (quite realistically) to fit into their environment.

If you like the idea of growing your own ecosystem with its own quirks and various features, anims are not the only thing that evolve, so does vegetation and it plays an important role in the balance of it. Newer updates include things like omnivores, and carnivores, which have the potential to fill the ecosystem and even manage populations naturally. If a carnivore ate all its food, it would go extinct, but if a herbivore eats all its food, the entire ecosystem could collapse!

Most of the game does revolve around the growth of organisms, there are no defined goals in Vilmonic, much like real-life. I hope to see modding support eventually. A feature that I would recommend the game developer adds in, which would result in (hopefully) a rich audience of modders and a new community. The game's potential is unlimited, and will probably make a notable spot on your shelf.

Long story short: damn, I adore this game.
Hats off folks and let's admit the raw truth - games like Vilmonic are, in the best case, extremely underrated and, in the worst scenario, totally ignored.
It is a double pity, because:
- one-man Bludgeonsoft is currently very active in communicating with us, the players (and dev also listen and even realize our ideas too!);
- below the the retro-style façade of a simple game, not so damn simple mechanics are shaping up.
For both of the above points I urge you, the reader of this review and maybe the future supporter of Vilmonic, to think seriously about give this game a try.
Because I'm telling you - throwing your money into this game is in any case more healty than devouring your favourite junk food or sipping your cheaply booze while nibbling your triple cheesburger.
In the meantime we must provide enough breathable air (aka funds) to Bludgeonsoft so... are you really still here uncertainly scratching your forehead?!

一款很魔性的游戏，玩的时间短的话没什么，但是玩得够久，或者说放置得够久的话点开生物进化史，看见长长的进化分支，看见上面许多灰色的名字——那些在你见过之前就死去的动物的名字还是挺感慨的。

不过毕竟是测试版本，综合体压下来感觉还有诸多可以提高的地方。

下面这个测评巨长，大家可以跳过中间大段的流水账游记直接看最后的“体验归纳”。

优缺点

优点：

+ 有趣的进化机制

+ 可爱的像素画面

缺点：

- 生物之间造型差异太小，难以辨认

- 游戏目的不明确

- 和生物的像素图相比，人物的像素图太粗糙

- 僵尸的设定太鸡肋

- 目前能制造的东西种类太少

- 目前的地形变化太少

游记

游戏伊始，我被赋予了一个箱子，里面是这个岛屿上除了我之外的唯一一个动物。我要保护它，帮他成长，繁衍，进化。OK，至此游戏目的算明确。

于是我开始跟着教程收集菌类，建造围栏防止生物掉水里淹死等等。但是因为操作还不熟悉，很快就有僵尸过来，我还不知道怎么攻击就被活活挠死了。心说坏了，这怕不是要刷新当时第一次玩饥荒开局没多久就被狗咬死的记录，结果并不——因为在出了一个弹窗告诉我我被打败了，下次小心之后我立刻被复活了！哦好吧，毕竟这是进化沙盒不是生存沙盒，大概是玩家死了不要紧但是其他生物灭绝才会GG的设定吧。

于是我开始放心大胆地种菌子养动物打僵尸，虽然一开始不太熟练，动物饿极了甚至会攻击我，但架不住我是不死之身，所以一切都还很惬意……直到几十分钟快一个小时候，我一开始选的这个22x22像素的迷你地图遍布菌子，而动物进化又遥遥无期，我决定开一个大地图好好享受。

大地图也意味着更多的僵尸，并且有了食物短缺的前车之鉴。我决定在开箱放动物之前先收割菌子并且到处种菌子圈地，保证动物出生在一个水草丰美之地，能够健康快乐，无忧无虑地成长。事实也确实如此，于是我看生态平衡似乎维持住了，正好夜已深，我就开着游戏待机去睡觉了。

一觉醒来后，我难得地在上班之前看了一眼电脑，想瞧瞧在过去的大概 6~7 个小时里这个世界怎么样了。

虽然感觉视觉上似乎没有什么区别，甚至菌子的分布都没有什么变化——要知道这里面虽然不会记录菌子的进化树，但是菌子的进化在视觉上的效果还是很拔群的！毕竟最初成片的绿色可是会在无数次生死轮回后，向四周扩散然后演化得五彩斑斓。

视觉上的单调这让我有点小失望，担心是不是电脑的睡眠状态阻止了我的大业。

直到——

——直到我点开了进化树然后被上面还没展开就已经很长的列表震惊到！！！虽然游戏画面让我视觉上有点失望，但是这些文字还是让我突然觉得我确实对这个游戏像素世界是有意义的！！！

尤其是展开详细进化列表后，发现不少灰色的名字——那些是在我看见前就灭绝的动物的名字，虽然不是很看得懂这些似是而非的假拉丁文动物学名，但是确实有种感觉只有生物学家才会有的失落感和空虚感。

怀着这份空虚感，我再次开了新档案，这次不仅一开始就圈地造林建设美好环境，还有意识造岛和特地圈养某些颜色的菌，希望能创造一个五颜六色的世界。顺便还沿着世界边缘造了一圈栏杆，把僵尸挡在外面，总之比之前的环境更优越，我有预感！这次一定能保留更加丰富的物种！

怀着这样的美梦，我再次睡了5~6个小时（暴露了长期缺觉的事实_(:з」∠)_）然后睡眼惺忪但又满怀期待打开了电脑……

……这次没图——已经惨得我不忍心截图了——只剩下最后一个物种了……怎么回事，生于忧患死于安乐吗，我就该让你们被僵尸追着跑然后在紧张感之下提升存活率和产能是吗，还能减少生物数量维持生态平衡是吗……这个游戏真是环保…………这么想着，我破坏了栏杆并且在野外补种了一堆菌子，如果有哪些动物出去了，大概短期内就回不来了，希望它们能在外面野化，然后演化成全新的物种。

这次我开着电脑去上班了，想看看下班回来以后会有什么变化。

……

下班回家打开电脑，引入我眼帘的是一个弹窗：

“你的最后一只动物刚才已经死了！不过别担心，我们给了一只新动物，这次可要小心照顾呀……”

……
…………
………………

一来是之前的丰容计划，野化计划彻底失败令我不太爽，二来就是——合着动物死亡也不会GG吗？？？这和我以为的不一样啊？？？

然后我关了游戏，开始写这篇流水账测评。

体验归纳

1) 游戏目标不明确。
虽然游戏介绍说的是保护动物的模拟沙盒。但是实际上玩家是不能直接控制动物的，只能通过种菌子还有盖房子等间接地影响动物。而动物演化需要时间，无事可做的玩家就不得不花费很多时间去造房子挖地杀时间……不是说不好，毕竟这是沙盒游戏做什么都可以，但是总觉得重点不对，毕竟这个游戏的重点和特色应该还是在生物演化上。【加上也没几种建筑可以造，造房子很快也会无聊……

2) 单调的情绪之旅。
虽然游戏刚开始还挺让人觉得新奇兴奋的，但是因为缺乏惩罚，所以玩到后面之后几乎没什么情绪波动。主角会不死，动物死光了还会再给你一个动物重新开始，就连僵尸也能通过绕着地图边缘建造围栏的方式轻易挡在外面然后造不成任何威胁。唯一让我情绪波动大的就是放置游戏几个小时后发现动物死光了或者大批灭绝会有点伤感和挫败。但是这个过称太需要时间，而且因为缺乏对于过程的完整追踪，玩家也不是那么容易就能学会增加生物存活率的方法，于是就只剩下了无力的挫败。【这点而言我觉得如果游戏能做成能后台运行放置类游戏说不定挺好的。

3) 不符合演化的动物设计。
动物的设计其实很有趣，很原始也很有想象力。但是从生物演化的角度而言，生物的造型应该和生活环境有关，但在这个游戏里我看不出什么关联，顶多是经常吃灰色菌子的动物容易长成灰色。喜欢潮湿环境的生物喜欢泡水。而且所有生物吃的东西也都是一样的……体型也是一样的…………导致点开进化树，可能好几个物种都长得差不多，实在难以区分。并且在规划动物上也造成了困难——毕竟用观察功能一只一只地观察动物再设法改变它们的位置真是太难了。

Блуждание пиксельных комков в случайные стороны никак не назвать живым миром или уникальным поведением.

Сами не уверены, зачем это было добавлять в игру.

-Охота за сокровищами. Вам предстоит отрыть реликвии минувших веков, часть из которых полезны, а иные - не более чем мусор

-Алкогольные напитки, которые можно готовить. Они окажут различное влияние на ваше воплощение (и на ваших питомцев тоже).
Я представляю, как бы выглядел бы список особенностей нормальных, даже инди игр, если бы туда включали и такую мелочь.

-Ваше воплощение можно создавать из бесконечного количества вариантов
Квадратная синяя голова или круглая зеленная?

-Приятный и неторопливый геймплей. Можно погрузиться в него с головой и управлять каждой мелочью в мире, а можно просто откинуться на спинку стула и смотреть, как мир растёт.
Даже это нльзя, так как бестолковые, непонятно для чего введенные "зомби" будут раздражать.

SimLife 1992-ого и то куда более интересная игра и куда более гибкий симулятор эволюции, а Vilmonic можно было бы продавать за 15р, но никак не за 220!

Vilmonic is an interesting game. Very retro in feel. There is complexity to discover.

My only gripes are as follows:
1 - What or where in the hell is the end goal? It seems the game is permenantly stuck on trying to survive Zomboids or w/e the enemies are, but they can spawn outside of the game screen and break walls, thus, provided dillligence to notice, it is possible to rule the entire map once you gain speed and insight on crafting.

[stirke]2 - No fullscreen support. I'm literally confused how this isn't the only game on steam that doesn't have a fullscreen mode. I don't understand the lack of it being implemented.[/strike]

Vilmonic is a very unique game, the easiest way I can think of explaining it would be to call it a "god-like farming sim". You must look after, breed, and care for the last living things on the planet, providing food, crafting biomes, and evolving them. I had a lot of fun with this one, looking forward to seeing where it goes with further development.

Right out of the gate I already really love this game. It uses some basic principles in evolutionary theory as the game mechanics so that is absolutely amazing. As such, I'm glad to have supported a game for such implementation. And the mechanics are very smart and intuitive. Additionally, the mechanics work wonderfully into world terraformation, where it drives you to want to build that "better" island for your critters (the crafting feeds into evolving specific strains of fungi).

That being said, it is a rather simple game. There's not a large amount of complexity to it right now. And there's not really any "reason" to evolve creatures at the moment or even work over the environment. Meaning once the newness wears off there's not a lot left there. It'd be lovely if there was something more to the zombies in the world, where more creatures=more zombies or something else to sort of spice things up and give the player some drive (or, at the very least, an option for that).

Additionally, right now terraformation is a bit too "easy." Need dry(er) soil? Just drop more dirt on the spot. Need wet(er) soil? Just dig out soil until desired wetness. What would be interesting (to me at least) would be to follow some real life here: Where colonizing species can change the environment, making it possible for other sorts of species to come in. For example, imagine you have a desert like location and you want it to be more middle of the road. You might need to first plant a species that likes dry soil, but offers "ground cover," thus trapping more water in the soil. This might offer some interesting mechanics for players as environment terraformation (and management) would be closely tied to managing and evolving species rather than just digging out enough soil for your species.

To sum

Pros:
+A fun game that captures some basic evolutionary theory
+Simple and intuitive. The use of actual scientific theory in the game is not ham fisted.
+Species conservation + Zombies + Construction = Some degree of interest. Several restarts already as I try and "build" that better island.
+LOTS of potential with this game. Could literally go any sort of way and be perfect for all sorts of folk.

Cons
-A bit too simple
-After newness wears off not a lot to keep player, well, playing. Needs more challenge/drive, even if it is just passively there. Caveat being that the game is, of course, still in development.

This game is really fun! Character customization is nice, the setup is nice. There's lots of stuff to push around and pull, and things to put in places and dig holes!

I totally reccomend this game. There's a simple charm to building things to put your anims in to breed and reproduce. If you're looking for something to chill out with, casually play, relax and enjoy, then I would definitely reccomend Vilmonic.

Would definitely reccomend playing the demo at the very least, there's a free 'lite' version of the game on Newgrounds. If you think you like it, I'd take the leap. Developer is also super friendly! Takes feedback well and seems genuinely excited to be working on the project!

Might seem simple but it's got so much going on in the background. Kind of fun to figure out what exactly is happening behind the scenes!

Vilmonic is a fun little life sim game. You plant fungoids, which is the food your critters (animatroids) eat. As the fungoids spead and mutate to different colors, your critters eat them, and it can cause mutations in your critters. Toxic material can speed this along for both fungoids and animatroids. You can also create a cola that helps speed things up a bit. Currently, there is no way to easily selectively breed your critters, but the developer may add the ability to extract DNA and work with it in some other ways, which will hopefully allow the player to be a bit more involved in the evolution of their critters.

Right now, the game really doesn't need you to do much, other than making sure there are always fungoids, so I recommend always keeping some in a chest....just in case. Other than that, it is a waiting game. There is no way to speed up time, so your best bet is to just load up the game and let it run while you're doing something else, and see what happens. The zombitons don't really bother me, and I've not had any issues with them. You can also craft several things, like walls and floors, so you can build a house, roads, fence in areas for gardening and/or farming.

Overall, I do enjoy the game, but remember, it is Early Access. If you're looking for something casual in the area of breeding and evolution, and don't mind just letting the game run on it's own sometimes, I do recommend this game. If you're looking for something that's a bit more involved, I'd wait for a bit until the delveloper has a chance to add more content that allows you to be more involved and have more control over things.

.Story.
There isn’t one, really. You’re a scientist of sorts, who seeks to take one species and evolve it into several more. This comes up during the tutorial and is never mentioned again.

.Gameplay.
You use WASD to move and spacebar to use whatever is highlighted in your inventory. Your inventory is hot-keyed to the numerical keys 1-0, with 20 additional inventory slots if you expand the menu.

The objective of the game is to plant fungols, which serve as food for your critters, and to build and craft while nature takes its course. Over time, the fungols will grow in a variety of colours and in turn will cause your species to diversify in their evolutions.

Rinse, wash, repeat.

The build menu can be accessed through the wrench icon on the menu on the right side of the screen and each item requires you to place your materials in the order shown by the recipe. Your newly crafted item must be dragged into your inventory in order for you to use it.

The craft-able items include building pieces such as floors and walls, tools like shovels and axes which help you to terraform, and soda pop, which allows you to speed up the passage of time. Additionally, you can dig up and spread radiation in order to speed up mutation of your species.

You are also given the option to customize your character’s appearance which, while purely cosmetic, can result in some zany looking combinations.

The game has enemies (?) which are more humanoid critters that wander about and strike you if you’re in range, but since you lack an ability to fight back, it’s best if you just avoid them. Their purpose is a little unclear outside of being nuisances.

.Atmosphere.
There’s a quiet ambience to Vilmonic that not everyone will enjoy. The music that plays—annoyingly enough on a loop—while on the title screen doesn’t carry over when you start the game. Instead, your movements are punctuated by sound effects that are familiar in their retro-ness.

The brightly-coloured pixel art works well with the subject matter, allowing for cutesy, quirky critters that are both unique and interesting in appearance.

.Longevity.
As with most sandbox games, Vilmonic’s longevity is almost entirely up to the player. There are no objectives beyond the ones you set for yourself, which means it’s up to you when you’ve finished the game.

Are you content to fiddle around until you’ve seen ‘em (the evolutions, that is) all? Do you enjoy cultivating neat gardens and creating a little world of your own? Is your idea of fun Because if games that give you a how-to guide and then set you loose aren’t your thing, then Vilmonic isn’t for you.

.Pros and Cons.

[*]You quickly run out of things to do besides wait after a while. Whether that’s waiting for a new colour of fungol or waiting for a species to mature, much of your game time will be spent idle.
[*] The crafting menu is rather sparse. I hope this will be amended in future patches.

.Bottom Line.
Vilmonic is one of those games that you play without really knowing what you’re doing, but you’ll still have a good time doing it. Due to its lack of direction, whether or not you have fun playing it is entirely subject to you, the player.

Steer clear of this game if you have a burning need for clear cut instructions and a goal/quest system. If you enjoy a (mostly) peaceful and simplistic, experimental sort of terraforming experience give Vilmonic a shot.

This game has potential but it has some issues that need to be addressed at some point.

Pros:

-very unique breeding/sim mechanics at work
-lovely pixelated graphics (this game is cute as hell)
-Relaxed gameplay
-Cute sound effects/music but wish there was more of it
-lots of secrets to find from digging
-Mixing/breeding the little monsters is addicting

Cons:

-Too many Mushrooms! Holy crap. There's just not enough options to get rid of shrooms or do anything interesting with them besides store them in a box or leave them on the floor.
-Item clutter; there are items that pop up from the ground when digging and some can't be picked up. This creates clutter on the map and there's no way to get rid of them. (Although, I could be wrong here. The tutorial is somewhat limited.)
-No vendor/trash system in place to get rid of excess items for something in return.
-Chests can be accidentally pushed around. This is a minor annoyance but it would be nice to lock chests in place if given the option.
-While the tutorial system in place covers most basics it could be expanded just a bit more.
-The game lacks more interesting stuff to craft but I assume more stuff is on the way later.

Some suggestions:

-It would be nice to know when the creatures evolve with a noticable animation.
-Maybe add a system in place that allows for a trader to come by with eggs of different species so the player can mix up their breeding?
-The enemies don't feel very threatening. Once I built a giant enclosure they were pretty much irrelevent.

This game is very different and I hope it evolves into something great. I can tell there's quite a bit of love in this project.

I give this game a mutated mushroom/10.

I like Simulation games and this is a very nice one. You start at a world with a choosable size (i prefer biggest) with a single sort of fungus and a random, quite primitive lifeform. I can can prefer underground with lots of water/swamp or it doesnt. Same is for its food, the fungus.
After a while the fungus gets (like usual farm-objects) a state of maximum fruit and tries to seed at other places around.
The animal walks around and tries to find any fungus or watersource. If it has no other needs for a while, it splits itself and generates a new instance.
For both there is chance to create a slightly different form itself. You can increase that chance by digging up some radioactive trash.
The bigger your island is, the more food you can grow, so you get big amounts of consumers. After an hour you can have about 30-40 generations and much new lifeforms. You started with a lifeform that isnt aggressive, has no form of radar/sight, is quite slow and not very hungry. After a while you get ones that are quite fast, ones with large sensors or those who kill every other lifeform. Or maybe with all that skills at once.

Your primary goal is to prevent special families of lifeforms from dying out. Its quite difficult, but if look exactly what kind of environment it needs, it is possible to keep your ecosystem diverse.

Though there are few crafting opportunities and items, i am extremly surprised from the possiblities this game has. I havent seen any bugs atm and the graphics is the right one for this kind of game.
If you relate the price with the amount of hours you can spend there experiencing new situations, it is worth it.

Vilmonic is really interesting. At its heart, it's an evolution sandbox wrapped in a thin layer of survival crafting game. You guide, or just observe if you want, the evolution of a small, self contained ecosystem of fungi and little critters over many generations. To do this, you have to find and craft various resources like tools and structure building materials. Your options for interacting directly with the creatures are limited, but you're able to observe their "DNA" and traits changing over time, complete with an evolutionary tree.

A solid base for a great game!

Vilmonic is a simple but pleasureable game.

The simple basis of 'let things be' is portrayed so well here, and your involvement - however little it is - can carry as huge or a little impact as you wish. In the end, the mushrooms and creatures evolve on their own, with or without you, and it is fun to watch them grow and change.

The little time I had with this game, I enjoyed thoroughly, bringing me back to when I used to play with games like Creatures 3 with Docking Station and Petz 5.

A calm little game, and I can't wait to see what it will become in the future...

... I'm going back to collect as many colours of mushrooms as I can.

unique and cute little game, reminds me a bit of simlife or creatures,few games out there you can play with eugenics and create your own little ecosystem,

you start on a small little island, with a few mushroom like seeds that you can plant, and a few basic tamagtochi like creatures, these have basic needs like food and water, and as long as these needs are fullfilled, they will grow and evolve over time. each new generation that is born has a chance to mutate. but the chances are low, unless radiation is involved.

as you change the island by digging and forming it the way you want, you also change the enviroment. which in turn changes the growth of the mushroom like food all the creatures eat, and the creatures will have to adapt, which they sometimes do, and sometimes dont.

so far i have managed make over 40 different species go extinct.. wheelp!

-cute sprites
- advance DNA system that will most likely be expanded upon in the future
-evolution tree that shows you the evolution history of the creatures
- unique and has lots of potential in the future

this is my first game review and i have really missed a game where you could play with eugenics and DNA, like in simlife or creatures, only wish there was more games like this! and this is why made this review since this game seems really underrated at this moment

If, like me, you found Gridworld way too difficult to understand and get into then this should definitely be more your speed. The learning curve is still rather steep, mainly due to the lack of tooltips explaining what specific objects do, but the UI is a lot more accessible and you can easily learn how the game works if given enough time.

The game doesn't really have a goal other than keeping your species alive and having fun doing whatever you feel like. You can guide their evolution, watch them evolve naturally, split them to have specific groups evolve differently and so forth. It's all about creating the conditions to help them evolve. After two hours I'm starting to get the hang of the evolution mechanics and finally can guide my species to evolve down different paths. I accidentally created a species that turned out to be very aggressive and they wiped out my other species.

It's still a bit barebones but the developer clearly has a passion for his project and I can definitely see this going places. He also regularly responds to questions on the forums and is very open about his project. Right now the game is very well polished and I've encountered no bugs. It's just a bit sparse on features so if you're looking for a more fleshed-out game then you might want to hold off for a bit.

☑ [b]Фантастическая реиграбильность.[/b] Я с трудом могу себе представить, что эта игра может наскучить быстрей, чем часов через десять (и это я еще скромно). Контента уже даже сейчас, на ранней стадии разработки, хватит с головой на все 20-30 часов геймплея.

☑ [b]Процедурная генерация[/b] как раз таки позволяет говорить о том, что реиграбильность у игры очень и очень высокая. Виды каждый раз эволюционирует по-разному и зачастую очень неожиданно. От этого играть еще интересней. У меня, например, получилось вывести ручных Джабба Хаттов.

[h1]Что могло бы быть лучше:[/h1]

☑ [b]Разнообразие врагов.[/b] Пока в игре всего один типа врагов - зомби. Кроме них тут, увы, пока воевать больше не с кем. Хотелось бы увидеть каких-то агрессивных животных, морских чудищ и т.д. Стало бы еще веселей.

☑ [b]Графика[/b] в игре довольно примитивная. Впрочем, через часик вы уже ее не замечаете, потому что полностью погружены в геймплей.

☑ [b]Отсутствие русской локализации[/b], как и всегда, является проблемой для большей части русскоговорящих геймеров, но не критичной.
