Fun platformer and a great deal for 1.50$ on sale
Some bugs and if you get trapped you cant restart to the last checkpoint you have to restart the level but an enjoyable 4 player local co op experience with each player having its own unique move crucial to each challenge
Edit:(4 player local Co-op)We have been having a lot of fun but sadly it was cut short when we experienced some bugs.
so we first experienced the "undead" bug on the falling logs level where when one person dies they drag the screen down and kill everyone(the blue character). So in that instance we tried to beat it that way but we just restarted it and it was fine.
But we experienced the bug again in the laser level and this time it was even more different and hence why it's got its name so when the laser would hit the green character it would kill him but you would still be able to move him around, so If he fell or went too far ahead it would kill everyone and we would have to restart to the last checkpoint. So of course we restarted it again but the green character ended up having the same problems.
You may say "get good" but we experienced another bug where finally when we get past the lasers with 2 people because if you die and the green is alive it will just end because hes undead. So when we finally made it past the screen just stopped, which is a problem because we need the screen to move forward to advance the level, we could still move our characters but whats the point if we cant explore.
Also sometimes the screen would stop when trying to kill the undead person and not be able to and we would have to restart the whole level.
I really wanted to beat this game and get the dlc but I cannot unless this is either fixed or there is an option to restart to the last checkpoint

An Idea of team is from "The Lost Vikings", but with lots of arcade, nice graphic style and animation, but meh.... A bit boring platformer as result. I'll stay to support guys for the efforts.

I'm sorry but when 60% of your players drops to only 29% between SAYING HELLO TO A SCREEN and FINISHING THE TUTORIAL you know there is something seriously wrong with your controls.
No way in hell is this worth the £10.99 being asked for it at time of writing. This is a clunky, charmless mess.
I can`t wrap my head around this at all, it just doesn`t play at all well. To have to switch between 4 characters at speed in solo and execute all their abilities in split second timing is just a headache. It seems to have all been said already but none of it feels right, movement, controls, levels, it`s all been done better in other platformers which isn`t in itself a bad thing but considering the general lack of fun I was having trying to complete even 1 level without getting sent back to the start each time I just haven`t got any patience for this. Maybe it`s better coop where I assume you only have 1 character to control but solo is a mess.
Art is decent, music is ok but I just don`t want to play it.
Horribly clunky controls, also not allowed to use your mouse in the game at all. What kind of idiot designed this.

Too stressful
This game is a couple of design choices away from being really great, but given the lack of those small changes, it really makes it frustrating and pointless. Even at a $1.49, its just not a game you want to play.
Suggestions:
1. Switching characters should pause the action
2. Each character should be allowed to damage or control enemies
3. Simplify your controls (X to double jump, or jump off of walls, huh?)
4. Each character's controls should have congruence to each other, A is always jump, X is always an attack or action.
5. Each character should feel as powerful or useful as the next. Currently, only two of your four characters are useful.
6. Communicate more clearly about the capabilities and limitations of your characters if you plan on forcing experimentation and a full restart to the beginning of each level OR respawn from where you last died OR give health OR lives. I was unsure of which character to use in a number of situations (will this character cause damage, will this character make it across this gap?) until I died and was punished by being forced to replay from the beginning and lose all my coins.
7. Fix that jump float. It is so hard to aim for enemy's heads or ledges/platforms. This coming from a video game player whose played and beaten multiple Megaman games.

This is a 2D retro pixel platformer, like one of literally thousands of these games glutting Steam and lowering the average quality of games all around the world.
This one is supposed to be co-op, but nobody would want to play it. Apart from the hideous retro 2D pixel graphics (this was released in 2017 but the devs didn't have a 3D graphics card? Or they made it badly on purpose?), the game is console ported so it's immediately inferior to most PC games. And it's a bad port, too. Also, they did something weird with the graphics scaling so pixels change size as you look at them. The effect is quite nauseating, just like the $21.50 price tag. Of the well over 4000 games I have on Steam, this one is somewhere in the bottom 100, yes, underneath the Russian shovelware achievement spam clickers.
Very low quality sound effects, clunky controls and uninspired graphics. The graphics almost work but just miss the mark.
The section where you learn the controls is already infuriating, so nope. Keep it simpler in future.
Neat concept, terrible execution. It's a 2D platformer, with mechanics similar to Trine.
Controls and movement feel terrible, much like many other reviews are mentioning. Camera movement is sickening.
Graphics/animations are nice, sound/music is pretty bad.
Overall just an annoying game to play. Not something I could ever recommend.
I do not recommend this game at all, often you see games mashing mechanics together to one-up each other, but this is the first case I've seen of a game that actively deletes all the lessons of intuitive game design all the previous games have built up. This game isn't even trying to re-invent the wheel, it's pitching a square wheel. The controls are SUPER un-intuitive and clunky, you have to cycle through your abilities, which are your characters, because that's the only difference between all 4 characters, just the Z button.
Imagine playing a platformer like Ori and the blindforest or Celeste, and having to cycle between being able to jump and being able to dash. That is Unit 4.
And choosing the abilities is based on a wheel, so good luck if the one you need is on the opposite end of the wheel or you went the wrong way, now you have to go the right way back TWICE.
And now for the kicker of brain dead design, You jump once with a button and the second of the double jump is another button.
Back to the wheel metaphor, imagine having your steering wheel control the left wheel, and another steering wheel for the right wheel.
No, this game is clunky and frustrating and annoying to play. And the levels have nothing to offer, they just put you in the tutorial, "Here are your 4 abilities, no go collect coins and try not to die because you pressed the wrong jump button."
I bought this for local co-op and it's a barely playable trainwreck.
They clearly made a single player game with lots of unstable/vanishing platforms then added local co-op after. The camera also favors following whoever picks blue so theres lots of off screen deaths.
Wish I played it sooner so I could have returned it.

Good game
First impressions after about 12 minutes:
Challenging, but recommended, IF you like puzzle platformers. The world and graphics are really nice/retro style. The 4 character mechanics seem well-designed and straightforward.
Since I'm not a big fan of this niche, the game almost lost me during the bland "VR" tutorial (would have rather learned the mechanics in the more-vibrant world where there's music and background art, etc.). Then the game really lost me after a few deaths that felt like the fault of not-super-tight controls... or maybe the lack of willingness to get used to the controls before the game was already too hard.
I think this game could benefit from some pacing. I'm also afraid that 4 characters is a bit much, since you can't easily switch to the one on the "opposite side of the wheel". Maybe you rarely/never use "opposites" in succession?
Still I see this game has merit and would be fun to get good at, if I was in "Saturday Morning" game mode, and not "lets try a few indie games tonight" mode (not the game's fault).
The hint of customizing your ship and crew was a good move at the start, making me want to play more to see if those unlocks are worth whatever it takes to get them.

Це їхній не перший реліз, розробники і раніше вирізнялися якісними іграми. Її вихід відбувся 24 2017-го року. Так само до гри є DLC, але воно додає арену і нічого значущого.

[*] Після початку гри ми з'являємося в космічному кораблі дивної форми, і нам під управління доручається якийсь герой у синьому костюмі. Після відповіді в командному центрі, ми отримуємо доручення пройти віртуальне тренування. Втім, нам не залишається більше нічого, як не погодиться.
Після проходження заздалегідь заготовлених рівнів ми дізнаємося всі можливості наших героїв. І тепер пройдемося по кожному. Синій вміє у нас робити подвійний стрибок. Як і всі, він вбиває ворогів, стрибнувши на них, прямо як Маріо. Червоний - місцевий бугай, він вміє робити ривки, які в більшості випадків є смертоносними для ворогів. Жовтий у нас якийсь маг, який може перетворюватися на газоподібну істоту і проходити крізь стіни. Мій же найнеулюбленіший, з однієї лише причини і це через його вміння - зелений. Він у нас вміє гратися з гаком-кішкою. Проблема в тому, що він лише вміє гратися, а користуватися так і не навчився. Мотузка іноді не долітає, герой відчіплюється і все таке в цьому дусі.
Після цього нам відкривається глобальна карта і далі ми повинні виконувати завдання нашого командира. Ми будемо приходити на планети і рятувати їх від якихось інших інопланетян. До речі, забув сказати, що рівні можна пройти будь-яким героєм, але щоб пройти рівень на 100%, тоді потрібно вже напружуватися і перемикати персонажів. На їхній взаємодії і зав'язані всі рівні. У цьому і є весь Unit 4.
Чи оригінальна задумка? Не сказав би. У тому ж Unruly Heroes, який я оглядав в останньому огляді (вибачте за тавтологію), був той самий механізм, який зав'язаний на перемиканні та взаємодії персонажів. Чи були такі ігри до Unit 4? Не знаю, але механіка безумовно не нова. У Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons все було побудовано також на взаємодії.

Без оригінальної ідеї, хоча платформери вже давним-давно відкритий для всіх жанр, тут важко когось здивувати.[/i]

The controls are dire.
Cannot recommend. Just too basic platformer to keep me interested, and the multiplayer DLC didn't open despite buying it!
so far love this game with friends, on a hard part just take turns staying alive and it's necessary with my friends and me, otherwise it does take a while to beat one level.
I believe the overall score for this game, which is currently "mostly positive" is very misleading; there seem to only be 40% of reviews that are positive. I stand with the 60%.
The game is nice to look at, I like the art style, I think I might even like the characters and their animation to an extent. I do however, dislike every other element of the game.
The music is mediocre, and it is missing completely from some key areas and menus.
The controls in the game are floaty, and not clean enough for a platformer, controls that are this shaky are fine in many genres, but not in a genre where controls are a key element.
The other glaring problem with the game is enemy hit-boxes. They are either too narrow or maybe poorly defined, but coupled with the poor controls, this is a very annoying issue.
It will not take much time for players to be annoyed and irritated playing Unit 4 rather than feeling challenged or interested. There are issues I did not list here, but the ones I have listed are enough to bring the game down to a complete mess as a platformer.

I really tried to give this a fair shake, but there's some issues that just won't let me enjoy the game. The character mechanics needs some serious work, especially the character with the double jump. Jumping already feels uncontrollable and floaty, but add in the fact that you have to make the first jump with one button and then to double jump and jump from wall to wall you use another button. Besides the other characters needing work, just switching from character to character has been frustrating, especially when you need to do it quickly. Another thing that stands out to me is that some of the mob hitboxes are off which make things even worse. Overall the game just isn't fun and that's disappointing cause it looked like I'd enjoy it. One of the minor things that should be changed is that there's a place inside the game which will take you to the store to get the free DLC, however it's not free. It's only a buck, but the devs should probably change the message to reflect that.
The devs posted one update with a couple fixes shortly after launch back in 2017 and then one more to announce they launched the DLC. The only things after that were about it being on sale and nothing about improving gameplay and fixing things. Its Q1 of 2019 so I don't see this changing in the future. This is a very easy Not Recommend.
EDIT: I just looked and I didn't even get 1 card for having around 3 hours playing the game.. that doesn't seem normal.
Art so good. Controls so bad. It starts with double jump being a different button than normal jump. Then you figure out why, it's a multi character powers thing, and only one can. But make that character just double jump, it doesn't have to be the character power button for jump #2. Then the analogue stick. I can't control this at all with that. I would be doing awesome with d-pad. The option to swap these should be there. Then changing characters on the fly to do a 2 character manuver is clunky. You can't use the mouse on menus. If you use the keyboard at all on the menu at least, then your gamepad won't work. This is an absolute mess. I hated it half way through the tutorial but forced myself to keep playing. I got through the first actual mission, being a series of levels. But there were like 5 of these sets to get to a cool looking thing, and as cool as it looked, I could not force myself to continue. This is a way to make bad control scheme ruin what is an absolutely amazing looking game. I really want to give a game more of a chance than this. But not when the physics and control feels like this. This IS my type of game too, and I couldn't stomach another minute.
This game is not so great. I like the visuals and the music but the game mechanics are not well implemented although the idea is interesting.
All in all it is a boring platformer that you should not bother with...

I really wanted to like this game. It had a really interesting gimmick and made a great first impression on me. When the game works, it feels great dashing and jumping through the levels. However, the longer I played, the more problems I started to notice.
-The grapple hook won't grapple sometimes even after making the *thunk* noise of it hitting something.
-The short jump for when you just tap the jump button barely sends you lower which makes short jumps finicky
-Landing on the very edge of a ledge will proceed in you edge canceling and often falling to your death
-The air control is minimal. if you're jumping you better be sure you're jumping the right way
-hitboxes and objects are wonky.
-Blind jumps are pretty common and will most likely have a hazard at the end
-Auto-scroll boss with very slow phases? no thank you
Honestly, a lot of these problems seem like me not being good at the game but all of them together compound into a pretty frustrating experience. I think if you can get this game on sale it might be worth a try but overall I would suggest you spend your time on something else since this game is quite long.

The platforming feels a little bit off. While it seems like a fun concept, and has some nice chiptune music, I can't recommend unless you want something punishingly difficult for the wrong reasons.
Got this in a bundle. Tired it, couldn't deal with the clunky controls. Too many ez to control, fun to control platformers exist to waste some time here.
Some animations look really, really bad.
The characters jitter around the screen, for their walk cycle.
The gameplay dosen't feel good.
I can't reccomend purchasing this.
Doesn't control nicely and the game feels really unpolished and like a bunch of well established mechanics of the genre slapped together with some pixel art for appeal.

Well, what to say? I never got past the tutorial. And if it already gets frustrating there, I have not much faith in the rest of the game. I had hoped that not managing 1 trick during the tutorial and not being able to progress had stayed in the '90. It was horrible then and it hasn't improved over time.
So for all I know it might be a fantastic game later on, but no way to skip the tutorial or being able to progress if you cant manage 1 trick put me off.
I feel lucky I didn't actually make the conscious decision to buy this game, but that it was included in the yogcast humble bundle. 15 euro is way overpriced imho, might be worth it for around 1 euro tho.

A fun little game, but I personally wouldn't buy it for it's current price. Luckily, I got it for cheap as part of the Yogscast Jingle Jam Humble Bundle. After playing for a while and enjoying the game I decided to check out it's price and was totally shocked. If you aren't as fortunate as I am to buy it as I did I wouldn't consider purchasing it.
[h1] [b] Unit4 isn't just another simple platformer, it has some good ideas to share. It just can't help being an exercise in frustration due to noticeable lack of polish. [/b] [/h1]
Closer to a puzzle/platformer, where the player must switch between the 4 characters(blue, red, yellow, green) to get through certain areas.
[u] Blue: [/u] double jumps
[u] Red: [/u] Dashes and kills smaller enemies
[u] Yellow:[/u] Ghost form allows him to cross areas blocked by specific walls, and through bigger enemies that cant be killed.
[u] Green:[/u] Has a hook that helps him grab to walls and moving platforms, but doesn't swing (an odd decision imho, but those are physics that don't exist in game). It can hit some smaller enemies that other players cant.
And through the levels i've played they had every ability covered. Getting passed certain obstacles or enemies. Quickly switching between two characters in order to get one ability following the other, not all that common, but even the tutorial introduces that as a challenge. Running from objects, avoiding getting crushed by walls.
There are indeed multiple gimmicks to try different characters, even if the double jump is more reliable just to quickly transverse through the level.
[h1] Hub [/h1]
A small and slightly customizable spaceship works as your hub. It comes with a small set of items that can be switched by others objects later in game.
Theres a VR machine with a short tutorial that starts by teaching the player how to use the characters abilities individually, identifying the best character for a certain obstacle, ending with using 2 abilities in subsequent order, it won't come often into play, and it is possible to get through that challenge in an easier way also by switching through 2 different characters.
but it's the first frustrating moment, that showcases the biggest issue in game, and it pops up that early in game.
From this ship you see whatever planetary system this is. At the beginning there is only one planet available for some good old platforming. One is payed DLC, not particularly expensive at 1€, though in-game its marked as free dlc.
Some planets are nothing more than mini games, not sure what that is about.
And for whatever reason one planet called BR3-XIT, which uhm, why not? I think its a bit too on the nose, knowing its an abbreviation of 2 words. Lets just say they aren't doing too well.
[h1] Level Design [/h1]
Levels are almost entirely horizontal. worst of all, they are excruciatingly long, doors and checkpoints everywhere. Instead of just dividing them into multiple levels, which can certainly feel way to long when your trying to collect every coin.
Luckily it isnt repetitive, by having multiple abilities at your disposal you are sure to get multiple gimmicks within a single level. There is enough variety of challenges that keep this long levels afloat.
Its always very clear what character works best, there is nothing wrong with how the levels thought out, despite the hard as nails selling point, that has nothing to do with challenges or skill.
In truth, much of the issues i want to share in this review belong to, controls, and inconsistent objects and hit boxes.
For example the leaves in this game work in ways they shouldn't, Supposedly they should retract once a character stands on top of them, but simply brushing by them, instead of standing on them, is enough for them to retract.
It is also possible to wall jump from leaves, which is unreliable and not at all a mechanic in this game.
That a recurring issue, with objects and enemies hit-boxes, everything is just not quite right, in a game with already iffy controls.
[h1] Controls [/h1]
The choice of controls isnt great, certainly not enough for switching heroes on the fly, to use abilities in sequence.
This is a platformer, as such, you could probably make full use of a modern controller. I mean, 2d platformers dont require the use of 2 analog sticks and a directional pad just to move the character in a 2d space, even less for controlling a camera.
Yet, it decides the best way to alternate between 4 characters is to use R1/L1.
instead of, something more pratical. something that offers exactly 4 options. can you guess it? that's right, the analog.
Just by pushing up, down, left, right.
As is, we get no wheel, the time doesn't slow down, and we can only choose one of two characters. One less than the full roster.
It doesnt control great either, the difficulty was created by weird speed movement and twichy controls when jumping. which only then meets with platforms or objects not reacting in an expected way. All with unfair hitboxes, and abilities that arent all that reliable.
Thats how a good concept, ends up as being too frustrating, because deaths are unfair and not at all due to lack of skill.
[h1] Final Thoughts [/h1]
Honestly i would like to recommend it. Its an old school platformer that, in truth, does make some of the same mistakes old school platformers did, except, it was good concept, it was creative, and it did explore each ability rather well.
It's just, unfair, and excruciatingly long. I would prefer to have them cut it in multiple levels, but thats just me.
With that said, i did try some local co-op. There you can atleast revive teamates, which doesnt make it less unfair, it just makes it easier.
It isnt a game i would recommend beating, it was ok for an hour or so, and it is one that has been heavily discounted before. Even if it lacked polish, i wouldnt go as far as saying 2€ isnt a good deal. There are some good aspects to this game.

像素风横版，可以通过切换四人来发挥不同的能力。黄，隐身；红，冲刺；绿，钩爪；蓝，二段跳。基本来说绿的作用是最小的，而蓝由于有二段跳毫无疑问是主力，黄和红也有可以发挥的场景。三场boss站各有特色，不过相对耗时偏长。
游戏里可以用用都用不完的钱来买服装和飞船装饰，既包括一些常规风格的，也包括龙珠和超级英雄之类恶搞的。
收集项是76个大金币，基本都在各种屏幕外看不到的地方或者周围都是障碍的地方，而且除非每关拿完所有大小金币不然根本看不出有没有漏。
PS：全成就需要购买Clash of Agents DLC，包含三个小游戏。

Unit 4 è un gioco che funziona in coop, ma prima c'è da sapere:
• il game-sense è fondamentalmente quello di Mega Man
• il gameplay è cucito sulle abilità dei 4 personaggi (la cosa più bella del gioco)
• platform classico con difficoltà variabile, e molto, a seconda che lo si giochi da soli o in coop.
Cosa c'è quindi che non va?
Semplicemente il level design cambia drasticamente giocandolo in solo perchè la difficoltà sembra progettata invece per un esperienza multiplayer!
I checkpoint sono spesso difficilissimi da raggiungere e possono risultare frustranti e alcune situazioni dove si deve intercambiare il personaggio in fretta non riescono proprio bene. Spesso ci si incastra in questa operazione proprio perchè ci sono 4 personaggi, che se fossero impersonati direttamente da altre persone cambierebbe completamente, e i comandi non aiutano.
Per questo Unit 4 lo consiglierei caldamente a chi pensa già di giocarlo in coop in qualche modo ( se non avete amici in "locale" provate Parsec) perchè molti passaggi di gioco scorrono meglio, e il gioco mantiene sempre un livello di sfida accettabile. La possibilità di respawnare è fatta bene, e permette di [b]avanzare nel livello ragionando sempre insieme[/b] e non di andare avanti all'impazzata finchè non si trova un checkpoint.
In sintesi:
E' un sì, se giocato in coop.
Mentre un "no", se lo si vuole giocare in solitario.

отличный платформер (особенно со скидкой 90%). Четыре персонажа, у каждого свои способности. Уровни разнообразные. Умирать приходится часто, но не надоедает, не получилось шаманом, попробуем танком. И чекпойнты понатыканы на уровнях. Музыка подкачала немного, но эт мелочи. Позалипать с геймпадом самое то.
Conviene acquistato in forte sconto. Viene da accostarlo a Mega Man, in realtà è molto più sbilanciato sul jump'n'run e quasi per nulla sui nemici. Alcuni passaggi sono riusciti, altri meno, ma in generale i livelli sono forse un po' allungati e ripetitivi.
Carina l'idea di switchare al volo da un personaggio all'altro, ma davvero blando audiovisivamente. Il problema più grosso è nei controlli e nelle collisioni: la dinamica dei salti è strana e comporta morti "unfair", così come le collisioni che sono imprevedibili.
Consigliato ma solo in forte sconto, è un gioco che non va oltre la sufficienza, da intendere come "more-of-the-same" per chi ha già spolpato gli hardcore platform più riusciti.

Got a key for this for my youtube channel. From what I played, it's a challenging, fun, unique platformer with some good design and art cues inspired by mega man. Horrible Controls and movement physics. The game its self may have some good content and level design, however there is no fun to be had only frustration and for $14.99 there is no way I can recommend the game, even on sale I can't recommend. In addition at least two of the positive reviews are fake, I never knew how people could tell if a review was fake and so when I saw two reviews for Unit 4 each with comments saying they are fake, I thought I would look a little closer. Both are written by profiles set on private, which alone doesn't justify suspicion, however they both only have a few games and "2" Reviews and when I looked at the two reviews for both those accounts they were both for the exact same 2 games which also happened to be 2 games developed by the same company as eachother with similar reviews. In conclusion I recommend you, the reader, avoid this game, not because of sketchy reviews but because the most important part of any platformer is movement and controls and physics and this game has all of those wrong, and I love platformers so this was quite a disapointment.

Upon first look, Unit 4 may appear to be a simple Megaman clone, but there's actually quite a bit more to it than that. Unit 4 is about an evil alien army that has stolen a sacred artifact from your home planet. Rumors swirl of other planets having the same thing happening to them. Your team (Unit 4) will embark on a journey to try and discover what is going on.
Unit 4 plays like an old school NES platformer. You control a single player on the screen with the ability to change into one of your Unit 4 brethern with a push of a button. Each person in your team has a different ability to help bypass obstacles and enemies in your way. Blue has the ability of mega jump which allows him to jump extremely high, Red has a super dash which is very useful smashing through enemies, Green has the justic hook which allows him to latch onto walls, and Yellow has ghost flight which allows him to glide through their air and through enemies. This game also supports 4 player locally allowing all 4 Unit 4 members to be on the screen at the same time.
This game is very reminiscent to unforgiving old school NES games. It may take 15 minutes just to get past one section of a level due to the intricacy of the levels. This game also has a few mini games such as racing in it which if you win can give you items to allow you to customize your Unit 4 hero, or your ship, these changes are sticly aestetic though and don't actually change anything else.
The level select screen is laid out like a Galactic map allowing you to pick levels. The more levels you finish, the move planets you are able to visit. Despite the game sporting an old school appearance, the graphics are very sharp, and the developer did a fantastic job of making the game appear to be modern while sporting an 8-bit look. The game has 15 different planets, and 3 different worlds to fight for. Each planet contains about 10 levels and a mega boss at the end that will test your patience and skills.
This game is a lot of fun to play, but can be extremely frustrating due to the difficulty of some of the bosses (as shown above). I have not tried the 4 player local version yet, but part of me thinks that with the exception of the bosses, it would make the game a lot harder trying to move from left to right without leaving your team members behind.

I would give this game 4 out of 5 stars for the type of game it is. It's a old school platformer game, you're not going to get anything earth shattering here, but it's a lot of fun.
Funny game: the powers are cool, level design is well done, nice ideas but...
...the game is completely unpolished. With at least 9 additional months of development it could have been really great: if controls, hitboxes, balancing settings, pixel art rendering were polished enough we would be facing a great platform game.
Such wasted potential.

Se qualche anno fa ci fosse stata prospettata la solleticante idea che la risposta italiana al famoso Mario di Nintendo (…anch’egli evidentemente italico emigrante in terra nipponica) dovesse arrivare da un atletico alieno “pixelloso” in tutina blu attillata, con tanto di apparato riproduttivo accennato in mezzo alle gambe (…vedere per credere) e con in testa uno strano casco bianco a forma di pallone (…sempre che si tratti di un casco)… beh… francamente ci si sarebbe messi a ridere.

Even with all its little shortcomings (many of which will be resolved in an upcoming patch, the game director assured me), one can't help but see what a nice little game this is.
The pixel art is very cute, and the level design is full of ideas: I've completed the first world so far and I've never encountered the same kind of obstacle twice.
The character-switching mechanic is nice, and between all of them, the four protagonists of Unit 4 represent all the gimmicks we've seen in indie platformers in the last 10 years: from the classic double jump and triangle jump, to a warioland-like dash, to the ever present grappling hook, to the ability of de-materializing yourself to pass through obstacles and float gently while falling down.
My big gripe with Unit 4 is that having to switch your character using the LB/RB pad bumps it can be quite tricky to do the more complex maneuvers, ie to do a double jump and then a dash you have to start with the blue character, press A for the first jump, X for the double jump, LB to switch to the red character, then X again for the dash.
Definitely takes some time to get used to it. I would've preferred to have the four front pad buttons assigned to the four different powers, so that you could ie. dash just by pressing (let's say) B, while also switching to the red character if you haven't already. So the aforementioned example would've been just A/A/B, but most of all the levels could've been traversed in a much more dynamic and spectacular fashion, even if I guess with enough practice you can do it anyway, even with the current control scheme.
"Practice" being the keyword here since, while not being a full-blown punisher (many of the most difficult parts are optional), Unit 4 can be quite tough, and some passages will require you memorizing patterns and carefully choosing the best character for the job.
In the end it's a very neat little game, not perfect, but enjoyable on its own right. The price is a bit steep right now, but whenever you see it in a bundle it'll be worth a shot.
Give yourself enough time to get used to its control scheme, and you'll be surprised at how inventive this title can be!
