Оригинальная Ultima Underworld была первой в моей жизни RPG, в которую я по-настоящему погрузился. Эта игра заявлялась на Kickstarter как её идейное продолжение, но в итоге вышла в свет недоделанной и была быстро списана со счетов и игроками, и самими разработчиками. Что я могу о ней сказать, учитывая, что купил её сильно позже всех этих событий, меньше чем за 100 рублей?

Разработчики решили максимально сфокусироваться на том, как предметы и элементы внутри игры взаимодействуют друг с другом. Источники света можно тушить водой, деревянные предметы — поджигать, двери — ломать. Но игра словно не создает ситуаций, в которых это было бы интересно делать. После того, как ты распробовал эти системы (и заодно освоился с достаточно странной физикой), игра не ставит тебя в ситуации, когда тебе [i]хочется[/i] все это попробовать. Сравните даже с последними The Legend of Zelda, где ты постоянно хочешь творить всякую дичь или ради явного преимущества над врагами, или просто для рофлов.

Локации не создают впечатления единого мира, который хочется исследовать. И это даже принимая в расчет, что мир и так сегментирован, а вся игра по жанру ближе к action adventure, чем к RPG. (Но чувство голода в ней зачем-то реализовано, причем в агрессивном темпе.) Значимых NPC нет, лор не вызывает эмоций. UI'ем, кажется, вообще никто не занимался, он был скорее напрограммирован, чем разработан. Играть с геймпадом технически можно, но создатели как будто сами так не играли: экран торговли забагован, инвентарь — непонятен, а в тексте постоянно проскакивают буквы клавиатуры и сырые теги, которые должны были конвертироваться в иконки контроллера.

Пара слов о том, что всё же может зажечь огонек в душе, если вы играли в Ultima Underworld. Во-первых, разработчики взяли столько отсылок к оригиналу, сколько можно было утащить из-под носа юристов EA (владельцев прав на Ultima). Во-вторых, хитросплетения локаций [i]иногда[/i] вызывают те же ощущения, что испытывал, блуждая по подземелью в UU. Это настолько мимолетные моменты и, когда они проходят, играть в Underworld Ascendant тупо не хочется. Что делать с этой игрой тем, у кого нет этого слоя ностальгии — я даже не знаю. Пройдите что-то из бэклога, что ли.

游戏绝对用心做的迷宫上下和机关系统无半点含糊，你任务需要看地图路线才能过，然后还要上下左右观望地理，这游戏绝对不是你不用脑子就能过去的，这游戏首先它是个有盗贼系统的暗影模式，它的支线任务就是叫你躲避过关不被发现，武器基本靠捡太容易坏了，好的武器会多用点时间，好的武器都是供起来的注意有火光的位置，有的需要拿木箱垫脚有的需要学跳高技能联合必用才能上去，弓把箭头放下边格子里就能射，有任务营阵模式做完升级可以买好装备，要打的话按住重击你一下我一下注意来回后退。任务最后完成了会自动结算然后自己跑回去，如果你最后任务找不到了会有声音提示不要走开那个范围360度去找，一旦知道了以后就不会有困难了。还要那个打怪物桩打下来的魔法球装置是开启大园盘机关钥匙，大本营最上就有一个那个大圆盘机关我去试一下。

Miało być pięknie. Legendy branży (Neurath, Spector) za sterami, wielki powrót klasyka. Rzeczywistość zweryfikowała te marzenia brutalnie.
To cyfrowy odpowiednik spotkania ze starym kumplem z liceum, który teraz próbuje ci wcisnąć jakieś garnki albo krypto. Gra była katastrofą na premierę i tona patchy później nadal jest po prostu cienka jak sik węża.

Let's get this straight. This game has been called the worst immersive sim ever made, and rightly so. But I have seen worse, and I enjoyed Underworld Ascendant despite all its flaws. I don't actually recommend it, because people are vastly different in their taste, and Underworld Ascendant is extremely niche, while also being a bad example as an immersive sim. But it's my kind of niche.

The story is a non-existent confusing mess (maybe i'm dumb though). You begin by "waking up in a different place than you are used to", and there's some kind of ghost telling you what to do in the beginning. It took me a while to understand the structure of the game - and that there's this voice (the ghost?) - speaking after finishing a mission, which I thought was just some random commentator. He just wanted to let me know that monsters have respawned, but I didn't get the message at first. Then there's the Tempus Modus which is self explanatory (joking, it resets the doom counter). Luckily, it all becomes clear as you finish mission objectives.

Jumping, mantling, and fighting all feels floaty and clunky. While that can seem like something bad, it also adds some charm. This game feels like a dungeon crawler, and as such you naturally take it slow. Everything is slow, and that's actually something I like. You enounter an enemy here and there, but never a whole group (well, they become more plentyful later on, but you can take them on one by one). You can figure things out at your own pace and plan accordingly.

The atmosphere (including audio design) and the level design is great, and I love fooling around in an underground world like this. Exploration is at the core of the gameplay, which is a quality I love and cherish, and extremely rare in video games. It's that important to me, that it's the main reasons why I give this a positive review.

There are plenty of bugs, and here's a list of what I've found:

1. The thread that runs the script for all monsters seems to crash during some sessions (this is a wild guess from my part regarding the technicalities). It results in idle enemies that don't react to anything you do. They just stand there, while you punch them.

2. Something with the culling of objects... There was one doorway which I couldn't see again once I went through and turned around - it was just a wall. There were objects like traps, doors and such that glitched and disappeared/reappeared depending on my perspective.

3. After accepting my second-to-last mission, I traded and bought some arrows, health potions and stuff. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I got a Steam achievement for aquiring a key item without being detected, and I finished the entire mission. Just like that.

So there you have it. Buy it and play it only if you want to enjoy the atmosphere and have the cozy experience of exploring dungeons. Other than that, I would stay away from it.

WORST DAMNED PHYSICS ENGINE EVER! I kickstarted this game and have tried time and time again to come back to this game to TRY and like it because I loved the original 2 Underworld games in the Ultima Series, which the idea and creators hail from. Many "puzzles" offer low reward prizes for insanely difficult solutions that should be simple "stack and climb" where you could drag a 220 lbs table across a room and stack a box on top of it to climb on, but while you drag the table, it throws you, the player, every which direction, including back and threw the table, opposite where you want to go. and then, if you do get the 220lb table and the 40 lbs box stacked up on each other, you climb up on the table and it slides IMMEDIATELY away from you while you stand atop it.

Honestly, the game can be fun, the combat system isn't bad, but the physic engine RUINS the game. push up against a wall fighting a skeleton and then suddenly, you are GLIDING along the dirt floor like it is ice instead of stopping... oh and look at that, you air glide right off the edge into lava.

Seriously have uninstalled and reinstalled at least 7 times WANTING to like this game... I can't do it.

Для всех кто наткнулся на данную игрушку, если вы ждете хоть что-то от неё то вы это получите, игра наполнена имерсивными штуками, но применять их скорее скучно и особо нет резона, можно взять колотушку + меч и бежать анигелировать всё ,что там движется. Сюжет ну да есть какие-то дворфы(которые есть только в тесксте) + эльфы почти туда же (ну хоть существуют как торговец или балванчик на карье) и типо у нас 3 школы которые за отношения к вам выступают по факту одни Ящеролюды. Из реально интересного это дизайн карт, а вот шмоток интересных маловато, интерфейс убогий такой ещё поискать надо, пройдя игру так и не нашел питомца и рюкзак(ну а зачем все ровно таскать барахла с три короба нужно). Купил за копейки просто по приколу ну вот и игра по фактам по приколу сделана. Вообщем, что-то донес на свой страх и риск "авантюристы" , Пускай Тифон вас увлекает своими увлекательными, приувлекательными монологами.

This game should not be bought. There are major bugs that block quests with no way out. This game was around $35 and after a few of hours of playing, some door was locked that shouldn't be and the game was bricked. I looked in the forum for an answer and everyone wsa complaining about this problem. The only known solution was to delete all you saves, make a new character, and go through the entire game again to that point and hope it doesn't happen again.

The bug was 6 years old and the devs in the forum had no answer and then the dev abandoned the game completely. I tried to get my money back from steam and they said that it was past 2 hours so they wanted to keep the money even though they know and acknowledge that the game is unplayable and bricked.

I got this because I love the older Ultima Series and it was completely different anyways. It's not an open world and it's more like an action game or a bad doom clone. Nothing to do with the old Ultima or Underworld series. I highly suggest not buying this one.

Ich vertrete die Meinung, dass bezahlte Spiele auch irgendwann fertiggestellt werden sollten.

Da es offensichtlich unfertig ist und seit 2019 nichts mehr passiert, rate ich dringend vom Kauf ab!

Ich konnte es nicht mehr zurückgeben, weil ich mehr als zwei Stunden gebraucht/gespielt habe, um zu bemerken, dass es ein aufgegebenes Projekt ist.

Someone *really* loved bloom in this game. So much so that they didn't want anyone to be able to disable it. Why anyone would think using one of the worst post-processing effects to ever exist and ramping it up to max was a good idea is beyond me.

I mean, who doesn't love having Vaseline in their eyes?

To the developer who thought it a good idea: Clean your specs. Light sources don't have 'bloom' effects. Filthy camera lenses, dirty windows, and damaged corneas do.

I didn't know much about this game apart from its heritage. I knew that it had a janky start but that allegedly things had been fixed post launch. I expected it be a bit messy but fun.

So far:

- I've been told that I need to press "<sprite="XboxOne/XboxOne_Left_Stick_Pressed" index=0>" to increase speed.
- I've got to a point where I'm constantly sliding around; moving any direction increases speed and only crouching and getting back up fixes it.
- I've got the rune bag but clicking on any UI element does nothing
- I tried to exit the game to get out of the rune bag glitch and the game locked up.

...and I've only been playing for 20 minutes. Appalling.

Giocato nel 2019 ed era osceno...ma incuriosito dalle recensioni più recenti gli ho dato un'altra possibilità e devo dire invece che lo sto apprezzando.
E' nettamente migliorato ed ora fa quello che aveva promesso.
Non sarà un tripla A ma il sapore dei vecchi Ultima ora ce l'ha.

I wanted to go deeper in this game, explore a bit, but I got stucked in an area. After the starting area you get in to a hub, and after that I was trying to do a quest. After load up the saved game a door was locked behind me and I wasn't able to go back. I tried everything, explored every blade of grass, but there was no way out.
This game shouldn't be considered good - as they received more than enough money to make a decent game and they we're throwing around what kind of big names from big projects working on this.
This game feels like something an amateur guy (or max a team of 3) would put together as a learning project. Which would be great and I would recommend it than - and even start it again maybe.
But thinking about that 860K and that experienced developer group... No way

I don't know what happened in development, but somehow the people behind Ultima Underworld, Thief, and System Shock made a really crap game. It tries to bring back some of that open-ended gameplay, but it's dragged down by a god awful physics engine that affects everything from the clunky character movement to buggy ragdoll combat. The art assets vary from maybe kind of pretty to cheap mobile game tier. And even the actual design ideas seem to boil down to them just thinking that stacking box puzzles and lore/hints scribbled over every wall are the pinnacle of creativity.

Некрасиво, периодически на пустом месте возникают тормоза, смысла исследовать гробницы нет - все лучшие предметы либо вываливаются из обычных противников, либо покупаются к середине игры у гриба на главной базе. Прошёл игру, думал лук выдадут в Новой Игре+, а оказалось - это ЕДИНСТВЕННОЕ ОРУЖИЕ В ИГРЕ, У КОТОРОГО НЕТ МОДЕЛЬКИ ВООБЩЕ, и его можно было использовать с самого начала игры, как я узнал из сторонних источников. Грустно это всё - не смотря на некоторые плюсы, рекомендовать не могу.

Six years old and still pre-Alpha at best. I'm sorry, like so many I wanted to like this and wanted to support a new entry in the Ultima: Underworld series but jfc, everything looks and feels so bad to play. Something as simple as swinging your arms causes them to clip out of frame, fire sources have no visuals, textures pop in and out of existence, the magic system is unintuitive, the enemies are dumb, the list goes on. What even is here that I can recommend? It's just unfinished. There are games with substantially smaller teams and smaller budgets who have produced much higher quality RPG's - what did Otherside hope to accomplish by releasing this in the state that it's in? Plenty of indie games that are visually and mechanically simple but make up for it with competence, and even buggy games like Masquarde: Bloodlines had charm and passion fueling them... what fueled this? Hell even notoriously bad sequels like Might&Magic 9 had the excuse that the company was literally going out of business and they had to wrap it up as quickly as possible before the lights went out. What can explain something like this beings created and shipped out other then just pure laziness and apathy?

Starts with a lot of promising immersive sim stuff and then none of it comes together.

- Stoopid AI that is sometimes also broken or hyper-aware of the player, and never a threat unless you decide to actually fight it
- The bad AI makes sneaking pointless. You can run by most enemies, and no amount of sneaking will prevent some from seeing you from a mile away
- If you do decide to fight, then the melee combat is boring, and both magic and stealth kills require some serious grinding to unlock the requisite perks to make them reliable
- The magic system is expansive but not particularly useful due a ton of hyper-niche spells that clutter up a huge list of potential selections, a limited mana pool that is annoying to try to refill, and the entire system relies on the player doing a lot of time-consuming leveling and fiddling around to see what is even possible (I didn't even get all the runes by the end of the game, so who knows what I missed :/).
- Physics that are so finicky that you'll step on a loose board and suddenly get catapulted somewhere not good, or a loose coffin lid that will flip up and crush you
- The physics also lead to traversal that is frustrated by the results of every action being semi-unpredictable--ranging from fiddly climbing and mantling, to the player's slippery shoes screwing up a running start across the uneven surface of a wooden platform, which messes up the momentum when they jump and causes them to drop into the abyss
- Tons of fire interactions with wood that are rarely a good idea to indulge in because it'll destroy platforms that you will wish still existed
- Level design that ranges from Thief-levels of intrigue to Deus Ex: Invisible War-levels of tedium
- Random sidequests that try to reuse the sometimes-great level design but end up being too rote and uninteresting to be anything but dragging you through somewhere you've probably already explored to do some boring crap
- An economy that ends up not mattering
- Loot that stops having a point around the third level
- Lore that is told through a series of goofy graffitis on the wall and memos you can pick up and read, which rely on a bunch of fantasy names that are hard to keep track of and ultimately manage to only tell the player the same thing over and over
- Annoying NPCs that have annoying barks that tell you nothing interesting about the game's world

Respect to the team for trying to make something so ambitious, and sad to see all of its bits and pieces be undone by so many of them feeling so frustrating and unnecessary to try to engage with, to the point where it makes more sense to engage with as little as possible.

After almost 40 hours and finishing the game I can recommend it.
Although really only for fans of Looking Glass Studios games. There is a lot of LGS climate here.
Immersion, music, ambience and atmosphere, all play nice together and makes you forget about bugs and shallow story line.
It is playable after the patches, possible to finish and have some fun along the way.
The game still has problems, bugs, sudden deaths, places you can just block yourself and cannot move but climate, level design, quantity of play style options you have and ability to influence the surroundings makes up for all the bad things.

This game seems like it was drafted in 1996 and finally put on paper in 2010. The world is full of open seems, BSP's that show the empty space in between, and it just over all feels like someones 3rd game in unity. The forced bloom strains my eyes, and the over all look seems like they were all based off unity assets. I purchased heavily discounted at around 8 dollars... but even that feels like too much for this. I will try and push through the game, but it definitely feels like a chore.

1) Невероятно полна багов. Это не исправят уже никогда - игра заброшена.
2) Квесты фракций невероятно скучны и одновременно сложны, часто невыполнимы из-за багов.
3) Система скилов неочевидна и запутана, особенно получение очков навыков.
4) Сама история и что происходит мне совершенно неясны. Кто я, куда я иду и зачем? Возможно где-то в глубине это описано, но просто играя это не понять.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game is bad. I heard the rumors, but I swear there are games that have been in Early Access since Obama was president that work better than this. Everything feels so half-assed. The physics are pre-Source engine tier, the textures look like they're contemporary with Arx Fatalis, and I basically had zero story in 7 hours of play. I wouldn't be surprised if the character models were lifted from a mobile game. I know this game hit a huge financial wall in development, but you could cobble-together a better game on the Unity store in a month. I can't even imagine what this looked like on release.

Non l'ho finito. A un certo punto mi sono stancato. Per carità, consiglio di provarlo, il gioco ha la sua profondità, ma personalmente non mi ha preso. Ecco perchè.
Il prodotto avrebbe ottime potenzialità, ma i movimenti del personaggio sono legnosi, i livelli poco vari e spesso dispersivi. Inoltre, l'interfaccia (tra cui inventario e diario in particolare) è molto ostica e lo spostamento, il settaggio e il consumo di eventuali oggetti ha finito per stressarmi. Dopo una decina di ore mi sono definitivamente stancato.
Ma poi, pensa te: ci si risveglia in un sotterraneo senza sapere nulla e un'entità ci dice cosa dobbiamo fare. È interessante scoprire la storia durante la progressione nel gioco, ma le motivazioni iniziali (e per tutto un arco del gioco) per cominciare le fatidiche missioni, a mio parere non ci sono. Risultato: quel minimo di curiosità iniziale è sfumata. Non basta neanche la sospensione dell'incredulità, che deve avere un solido motivo per instaurarsi.
Personalmente, se un tizio sconosciuto appare e mi dice cosa devo fare senza darmi un motivo, non mi muovo nella vita reale, figuriamoci in un prodotto da intrattenimento. E neanche, però, viene data la possibilità di fare l'opposto per sabotargli le aspettative se ti sta invero sul groppone. Ergo: non mi sono particolarmente divertito. E questa è l'unica cosa che conta in un prodotto di questo genere.
Mi spiace, perché se fosse stato sviluppato tenendo conto dei format di altri action rpg di successo, sarebbe stato invece molto appassionante. Poi, per carità, magari sono gusti personali. In definitiva consiglio di provarlo.

Don't waste your money. Some would have you believe that patches applied to this game have made it playable since launch, and it certainly seemed so for the first few levels, I was having fun. Then the problems started in the Underswamp. The game for some reason no longer recognised my character possessing the Abyssal Key I acquired in the Keep, meaning I could not claim my reward from the mediator, and the next objective wouldn't trigger. I was able to use this transient "key" to get to the lower level, but no other objective showed up, meaning I was left fumbling around with nowhere to go and no quest-giver to be found, since I obviously couldn't complete the last quest.

So I explored Titan's Reach looking for the mediator, but no quests were triggering and no more keys could be found, meaning all the metal doors I kept finding were, you guessed it, locked, and impassable. To make matters even more infuriating, the lack of progress was seemingly making such trivial matters as movement deteriorating, and eventually I hit a complete brick wall when, on my way to the Arcaneum, I got stuck in an upper room with the only ways out being to jump down through arches. But the fall damage in this game is insane, and I had no mana to cast a soft landing spell. Oh, and there was an enemy in this area who could glitch through scenery and register hits on you from a stupidly long reach. This really is ridiculous game design, and convinced me that time was up for this broken mess of a game.

I don't know what has happened here. Underworld Ascendant starts out promising, with a nice art style, a terrific variety of weapons and magic spells, and a decent skills system, but it feels rushed and incomplete, as if it was released to meet a deadline and to satisfy shareholders, but not refined to work properly, or even to take into account the different orders different players will tackle levels, which is kind of crucial for an "immersive sim". It became a sick joke when I got into an area that clearly hadn't been meant to be reached by the time I got there, and therefore the enemies populating the area weren't yet programmed to attack me. This is pathetic. So after about 12 hours I have 4 keys out of 7 to show for it, and a few achievements, and about 9 hours worth of reasonable fun, but those last 3 have been really sour and bitterly disappointing. It was a waste of a Friday evening, and a warning to all: steer clear of this one, since it's unlikely the game will be fixed further.

l'avevo giocato all'uscita e purtroppo si meritava i tanti commenti negativi ricevuti, a causa di una build quasi alpha e tanti bug. Adesso, dopo anni, è il gioco che più o meno doveva essere. Un RPG abbastanza vecchio stampo, basato su stealth, fisica e magia con rune da combinare, e sinceramente mi sta piacendo. Il famigerato engine unity è usato dignitosamente e le ambientazioni sono ben fatte. Anche le musiche sono atmosferiche e piacevoli. Si trova scontato sui 3 euro e a questo prezzo merita una chance nel 2024, visto che non è invecchiato male, anzi è migliorato.

Yo this game sucks, and it's so boring I forgot to review it until now. The AI forgot to exist like literally 2/3rds of the way through the game so i just walked through an empty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dungeon for like 3 hours and beat the rest of the game. By the way the final boss is literally the same Lich enemy you've seen like 10 times but they scaled him up to be Kaiju sized. Also the fireballs he shoots move the same speed as the normal liches but because he's like a mile away they move snail slow and have no radius on them. It's really cool, if you huff paint.

I just finished the game to completion tonight...and don't fully understand the intense negativity surrounding this game. I do see that there was a lot of backing and promises that went unkept, so in that regard I can understand how I would have been disappointed as well.

This is by no means a 'great' game, nor maybe even a 'good' one -- but it's not 'bad'. For me it was a relaxing experience, not-quite as dungeon-crawly as I was hoping for. I had never played the original Ultima Underworld titles, though I am interested in doing so -- they're just REALLY old at this point & nostalgia isn't a factor for me when I briefly tried one.

My biggest gripe with the game is that the map system is awful, and when you combine that with moving SO SLOW...it gets very tedious in retreading the same ground trying to figure out where the hell you're supposed to go. Once I got some boots that made me 25% faster, the speed was much less of an issue (and, in my mind, should be the default speed). I didn't like having to eat food either, but I eventually found a helm that took that requirement away.

The praise I CAN give this game, is that it got me interested in some more immersive sim-esque games. Someone in the Discussions had mentioned Dark Messiah of Might & Magic -- a game I'd been eyeing for years. I picked that up on sale, and will likely be firing that up soon.

If you want something not too challenging, but fun to look at (at times), this might be worth checking out. I didn't buy it at full price.

BTW, the ending is nice and lengthy. They actually gave more time to the characters that I did in knowing them (I wish there was more story and interactions, but alas -- they're pretty much non-existant).

This game is surreal to play. Literally every system is at odds with each other. That's genuinely impressive. Am I supposed to explore? Or am I supposed to manically run through every level scrounging for food because the consequence for sightseeing is starvation. I see you made your own physics system, and like so many people who have attempted that before you have made something that's beautiful on a technical level but entirely unworkable as a video game.

There are brief moments of cleverness. I need to get to point A, there happens to be a wooden wall between us. This game gives you a lot of solutions that are material in nature. The first wand you get lets you manipulate wood. Really cool immersive sim stuff, right? Well, I try to cleave through the wood floor beneath me and fall into a room with a skeleton and have a cool fight. No such thing happened, the wood floor broke and the remaining physics object planks squished me like a bug on a windshield.

This is a game where one of your first finds is the healing spell. Not because this is a good game (I think healing spells should be immediate if not one of the first spells you learn) but because you will take half of your healthbar, I ♥♥♥♥ you not, walking into a door. You will walk into a physics object and just sit there with a broken nose.

This game makes me feel insane, it makes me feel like I'm puppeteering some horrible meat creature through the sewers while he starves. It's compelling but for all of the wrong reasons, I want to play for as long as I can until the game forces me to stop because I'm an insane person but let me give it to you straight- this is a very bad video game.

Also y'all could've brought it up a full letter grade instantly by JUST making the base movespeed higher. This game is an absolute chore to explore, which is the only thing that's actually there.

After all the patches the game became quite playable and enjoyable for the fans of the Thief series. It is slow and stealthy, it rewards exploration, and completing bonus objectives feels great after you figure out how to do them. Physics is hit or miss sometimes, but settings things on fire feels soooo great. TLDR, Deus Ex and Thief fans will love it.

Eh, not the worst game I've ever played.

Main complaint is drift. No idea how you manage to get drift on KBM but it's there. Make a jump or run a turn and sometimes you just keep going. -_- Especially when the NPC speaks WHO I MIGHT ADD if you've ever played ESO, just don't play this game. Main NPC that prattles at you sounds like Emperor/Prophet and he's just as annoying here.

I originally bought this game because I like finding the good in games. I like puzzles and secrets, so for that aspect, maaayyyybe get this game if it's like $3-$4 and you're super bored I guess.

To it's credit there is more than 1 enemy, IDK why that other reviewer said there were only skeletons.

The game gets somewhat decent once you get the upgrades- wall climbing, higher jump, wall walking, speed boots etc.

Steam achievements are a little clunky. I got the "set an enemy on fire" achievement by burning down a door. Just, what?
Gonna play this to the end and we'll see if it gets any better.

Игра которая могла бы получить твёрдое 4 просто за возвращение в детство, во времена старой доброй Ultima: Underworld. Но вместо этого пробуждает желание совершить с разработчиками попадающие в категорию БДСМ (где разработчик будет М), за тотальный пофигизм разработчиков в плане технического состояния игры. В чём дело:
1. У игры проблемы с физикой. Цепи которые складываются квадратом когда по ним лезешь, вышвыриваение в сторону при наступлении на предмет (происходит коллизия), застревания и т.д. Dark Mesiah of Might and Magic, имеет примерно похожий по взаимодействию с миром геймплей, но там разработчики худо бедно справились, не смотря что Мессия вышел на 12 лет раньше..
2. Проблемы с текстурами. Зачастую визуально стоя на одной поверхности (допустим земля) игра считает что ты стоишь на другой (допустим вода). И было бы пофиг, если бы персонаж наступая на воду (даже глубиной 1см) не переставал красться.
3. Игра к основным квестам выдает испытания (вроде доп условия). И они рандомные. Самое веселое когда задание требует тебя убить кого-то и в качестве доп условия "выполните задание никого не убив".
4. АИ ботов либо тупит и не бьет в упор, либо (в основном лучники) начинает читерить убивая одной атакой анимация которой быстрее чем всё что игрок может сделать.
5. Абсолютно ублюдочный баг с хитбоксами. в 50% случаев оружие просто проходит сквозь текстуру врага не нанося урон.

Grabbed this on sale, was hoping the negative reviews were just hardcore Ultima fans being upset. I really wanted to like this game.

Honestly, the gameplay isn't terrible, it's just not exciting either. I don't even think I got an hour into the game before I exited it to play something else. The reason I'm going to not recommend it is that I came across some serious bugs in such a short period of time that are just too obvious not to have been caught in testing. This includes the AI just standing there while I hit them and my character sliding (sometimes over edges and just floating) which was starting to annoy me. I'm also not a huge fan of the graphic style they've gone for, though it does feel consistent.

Because of my disappointment with the game, I decided to pick up Arx Fatalis (which I've since found out was actually pitched as Ultima:Underworld III) and I absolutely loved it, so that's a positive.

Игра мне понравилась, всякие загадки, лабиринты. Работа с окружением. Но я сгорел на прыжках и цепях. С учетом того, что прыгаешь тут как пластилиновый, цепляешься за цепи как сонный, а умираешь упав с небольшой высоты гарантировано как хрустальный - это провал. Я так пару раз оставил здоровье, а потом задел ногой металлический ящик и критически умер от защемления мизинца. Нажал alt+F4.
Загадки хорошо, прыжки на цепи плохо.

Ну что можно сказать про эту игру? Потенциал офигенный, задумок море, дизайн уровней и окружения на высоте. На деле, после выхода 4х патчей, по забагованности сравнимо с релизной версией Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. Пройти можно, прошел через ветку вора, было довольно весело.

■ バグ
1.セーブデータがロードできなくなる
いきなりクリティカルすぎるバグだがautoセーブ等からロードできるセーブデータを選びロードして目的のセーブデータをロードする、という多段ロードで詰みを回避できた

2.クエスト達成用のアイテムを入手したのにセーブロードを挟むと入手していない事になってしまう
クエストアイテムを入手する直前にクイックセーブしておいて、入手したら速攻キャンプへ戻り達成画面が出るまでセーブロードはしないようにする

■ 知識
・装備品は耐久値が設定されておりどんどん劣化してしまうが中盤くらいから耐久値の存在しない装備品が出てくるので大事に使わなくてよい

・マナコアを落とすアニムスっていうトーテムは近接攻撃で壊すのが非常に難しい、ゲーム内でも散々注意されるが矢での攻撃がめちゃ大事なので最低でも一束（20本）は常備しておきたい

・戦闘系や魔法系のスキルよりもステルスや移動系のスキルに振って戦闘は極力無視で良いかも、特に2段ジャンプは非常にお勧め（ゲームの面白さを損なうかもしれないが...）

・メインクエストが完了した階層ではサイドクエストを受注できるようになる。しかしサイドクエストを達成するにつれ「破滅へのカウント」みたいのが進行してしまい敵が強くなってしまう。達成報酬でエルフやドワーフとの関係値が高まる？ようなので進める意味はあるのかもしれない（ED分岐に関係してたりする？）

I can give this game a solid recommend. It may have been poor when first released, I don't know, did not play it then.

However, playing it right now, in 2023 the game looks, runs, and plays great. No issues technically at all. The graphics are quite good, and the art style and theme is immersive.

Exploring the dungeon and figuring out ways to do things is great, and if you crank up the difficulty to the highest setting you have to play smart to be successful.

What this game is NOT is an open world game like Skyrim, or an immersive sim like System Shock. What this game IS is a complex dungeon crawler like a King's Field, with some almost rogue-like mission elements. Gear is king, and your character does not "level" and there is no XP so there is no grind. As a matter of fact combat is generally best avoided, because it saps your resources more then it benefits your mission.

The AI can be odd at times, and the physics engine doesn't always behave exactly how you would expect, however, the magic system is downright amazing, and the exploration and being able to "role-play" inside the game is great fun.

I came into this after looking for a deep AA level game that gave a real King's Field experience, because there are basically none out there at all. I gave it a try and I am very pleased to have this game in my collection. You can get on, set some goals, and play for hours exploring and trying new things, just to get that one more feat, or that better gear to let you progress further once the Doom Counter starts getting high and the stakes really become life and death.

Not a game for everyone, but its technically very solid, and has gameplay that depends on YOU the player making the most of your experience. If you are a fan of games like King's Field, Genesis Alpha One, or to a lesser degree Arx Fatalis, give it a shot.

Например, звуки шагов врагов слышно через каменные стены. Враг за глухой каменной стеной, куда ведёт единственная дверь в 30 метрах, но звук такой, словно гоблин прямо по правую руку.
Я даже не вспомню, что в игре сделано хотя бы а троечку, - за что ни возьмись, всё сделано крайне паршиво.

Уф.. я прошёл это.. до титров. Возможно и не стоило.
Под [i] ВОРОХОМ [/i] недоделанных механик [spoiler] ПРОСТО ПИ3ДEЦ [/spoiler], кучей багов и откровенных факапов - живёт нормальная игра, которую бросили на половине разработки и кое как собрали в то что есть сейчас.
Да играть в это больно, но можно. Я не рекомендую эту игру никому, но если хватит терпения то можно докопаться в этой игре и до нормального геймплея и веселых попрыгух по стенам.
Что ещё можно сказать об игре которую вполне заслуженно обдали тугой струёй с брандспоита нечистот?
Ну откройте в главном меню пункт DLC.

There is definitely a game under the jank, but the jank drags you down.
The biggest problem so far is that there's a 20% chance the game will crash everytime you break anything, and there is loot to be found in a lot of the breakable stuff, so you can kind of see a problem right there.

I've spent about 2 hours now in the game only to realize i dont want to continue, mostly cause of the crashing.

I dont personally see a problem with much of the other stuff, even though the physics reminds me of the shaky physics before Havok took the world by storm in 2004, so yeah, we are talking about pre 2004 style physics (not to mention everytime a physics object moves, it can turn into an instant death trap if you go near it).
The melee combat is dated as well, it reminds me of a less clunky version of Arx Fatalis, a more clunky version than Oblivion/skyrim and a horrifyingly bad version of Dark Messiah which, still to this day, is good.

Enjoyment score for this one is about 40%
You can see something is there, but theres an "extreme-risk-low-reward" kind of deal you're getting from the game and chances are you will give up (like me) due to the crashing.

If they patched the game massively a few times, then ill come back to check it out again, but for now its going on the shelf indefinitely.

Despite numerous negative reviews for this game I can recommend it to all Ultima Underworld fans. It has problems, but it is still not that bad.

Here is the list of good things in game:
+ Atmosphere, similar to those in UW1 and UW2.
+ Nice physics with some additional features like burning wooden structures.
+ Very good maps
+ A lot of different creatures, weapons, armor types and other things

And now list of bad things:
- A lot of bugs!
- A lot of stupid quests!
- Absence of good music. There is some music in game, but it is not nearly as beautiful as in Ultima Underwold series.
- Too many gold lying all over levels. It is almost unneeded. Even on hardest level of difficulty.

Game itself looks like unfinished project. It could be really successfull, if developers would spend one more year to finish it. Now it would be nice if they hand over game sources and assets to fans, so they can fix numerous problems in game and make it really fun to play. Hopefully it will happen some time in future.

So I got this game for £3 on sale and I wouldn't recommend getting it for any other price. The trailer looked pretty cool but the reviews were real, real bad. A mix of development hell and kickstarter promises going unmet. This game is a part of a much-loved series and didn't meet expectations, but, I'm not an old fan and I know nothing about the genre, so I gave it ago.

I'm relatively new to the immersive sim genre, I love the freedom it gives you to solve objectives, but I also love creative and expansive magic systems and the magic might've been the only good thing about this game (if it was finished) and oh boy this game is unfinished. The graphics and art style are okay, the cartoony look always ages better than realism anyway, but a lot of it is so janky, the way the world is put together, prefabs clipping into prefabs, it all looks so hastily put together, but hey, i only paid £3. I'm 33h in, figuring out how to complete fetes to get cool skillpoints, (one which is SORELY needed as a mage but hard to get) the skill ends up being broken and doesn't work most of the time anyway.... I've figured out almost all of the rune/language magic system (so cool) my spellbook currently has *97 spells*, none duplicates (but a lot are just stronger versions of the same spell, or have some modifiers) and I notice that there are 2 runes missing from my spell wheel, and a 3rd rune I've only ever found on a wand.

So I break my immersion, look it up on a wiki and god the hell i find. So many features that they intended to add, so many items and weapons and wands they intended to add. There were 3 runes missing from the game, one for Earth, Air, and Water. And it just never got finished. It wasn't something they took out of the game, the gaps are still there in my Rune Bag waiting for a dev studio who's never gonna put them there. Enemy AI somehow gets worse the further into the game you get, and once i stopped trying to play stealthily, there was no challenge. At this point I just totally lost interest in finishing the game, because it wasn't finished itself.

Honestly at £3, I got what I paid for, but i know loads of other people paid a whole lot more for this, and did NOT get their moneys worth. If you get it on sale, play it, have a laugh, fill an evening or two. Do not buy it full price, this game is not finished.

All I can say is that I enjoy this game. I love the art style and it feels like a genuine exploration/adventure. No, its not like other games and yes , its pretty quirky but I still am genuinely entertained. I like the inventory system and spell crafting. The sound is well designed. The underworld is pretty mysterious if you ask me and no, it doesn't always make sense just like a real adventure. Its a far cry from 1 and 2 but ,,,, why wouldn't it be. They are great games but they were made years ago. In my mind they still hold up but this is a welcome addition to the series. It's not what I expected and that's fine. I know,, a lot of people disagree and I get it I guess, but I simply don't have a problem with it at all. Some of the NPC AI is clearly flawed as they don't seem very interactive or helpful. It would be nice if they were but the game is very atmospheric and I consider it quite immersive, such as it is. Yep,,, I only paid 5 bucks for it so I think it was a total steal. I think the Otherside team probably could have done better on some things and its likely not how they wanted the final finished product. Something must have happened with 505 or who knows but for what it is, I totally recommended if your looking for something unique with GREAT artwork and atmosphere. It's different but in a good way and you can't beat it for 5 bucks. I captures the essential vibe of the originals in a fresh way and its a fun experience in spite or because of it's "Quirks".

This game is horrendous. Part of me is still in disbelief at the fact that this is the official 3rd Ultima Underworld title because, in addition to being bad, most of the game is completely at odds with what came previously in the Underworld series. For example, the game is linear. A key aspect of Ultima Underworld games is that they take place in complex, interconnected dungeons with various entrances and exits to different levels on each floor. As you played the game, you would go back and forth between levels in a freeform manner to do various objectives in your journey, often in a non-linear fashion where specific quests didn’t have to be completed in any specific order. In Ascendant, you just go from floor to floor in order via the same staircase and do a few quests in each, warping back to a hub to resupply when the need arises. While the individual level design is actually pretty solid, it still lacks the cohesion and freedom of UU's maps. Speaking of quests, Ascendant, in stark contrast to its predecessors, has some of the most dull, boring, bottom of the barrel quest design I’ve seen in an RPG. All of them are either kill quests or fetch quests. You go to a new floor and either kill things, get things, or free people, go to a new floor, and the cycle continues. Even the immersive sim elements are disappointing. There are cool things you can do, like burn down enemy structures by lighting wood on fire, burn through wooden doors, and turn enemies against one another by getting them to hit each other, but the instances of emergent gameplay feel very deliberate and specific, not arising in spontaneous or surprising ways. You can’t find alternate methods of completing quests by smart use of game mechanics like in the Ultima Underworld games, you can’t kill/KO enemies by dropping small but heavy objects on their heads like in Thief, you can’t organically find enemy weaknesses and exploit them like in Prey, I could go on but I think you get the point.

Even if you disregard all the shortcomings when compared to the Ultima Underworld games, the core mechanics of Ascendant just aren’t good. Melee combat functions but doesn’t feel satisfying or smooth, especially since the weapon reach for melee weapons is surprisingly short. Furthermore, enemy attack animations are very jerky and random, making it hard to read what they’re going to do next. Ranged combat is somewhat better, though finding arrows for the bow isn’t always easy. I’m fine with how magic works via collecting runes and experimenting, but the magic system has its own problems that prevent it from being worth using. When you discover a new spell, the game sometimes doesn’t tell you what it does and you can’t test it unless you figure out what it’s supposed to target. You can also find spell formulas in the wild, but these are written randomly on walls in the environment and are easily missable. On that note, Ascendant has a really odd way of handling mana. There are no mana potions and you have to recover mana by collecting bits of it that float around the game world like fireflies or something. Your mana pool also isn’t very big, so you can only cast a few spells before needing to find more. As Ascendant is an RPG, it has a progression system with three skill trees to enhance your abilities and give new ones. Here lies one of the most baffling design decisions in the entire game, and maybe in gaming history. Are you ready for this? You don’t earn skill points by earning XP and leveling up, you earn them by completing in-game achievements called “feats”. Wait, it gets worse: the game doesn’t tell you what these feats are. So this effectively results in you flying blind, hoping that the things you do count as feats so you can get a few upgrades to make things easier for yourself as the game gets harder and harder.

Ascendant, like Ultima Underworld, also has some survival elements. Unlike Ultima Underworld, Ascendant has managed to implement them in the worst way imaginable. It has weapon durability (yipee) and if you use melee heavily, you can wear down your weapons pretty significantly in very little time. Armor fares even worse, becoming worn extremely quickly. The worst part about all of this is that there is no easy way to repair your equipment. The only way to do so is to buy two magic wands that repair metal and leather items respectively, and even then you can’t repair more advanced equipment like enchanted items. This means you’re constantly switching weapons and armor, never getting a good feel for what you’re using. On top of this, Ascendant has a hunger mechanic. Your character has to constantly eat or else they will move slower and lose access to some abilities. If you don’t eat something every 5 minutes or so, you will quickly find yourself handicapped. Not only is this annoying, but there isn’t a lot of food in this game so you will have instances where you’re navigating a map and you’ll suddenly be starving to death far from any vendor.

In terms of graphics, Underworld Ascendant is a mixed bag. While I think the art direction is genuinely great and one of the only redeeming qualities, many of the actual textures and models look very cheap, low quality, or just plain strange. The limited budget of the game really shows here. When you start a new game, it even shows you that your character doesn’t even have a model and is literally just a floating pair of arms.

Clearly I’ve had a lot to say about Ascendant, but as if the actual core design of it didn’t have enough issues, this abandoned trashfire of a game still has a Bethesda title’s worth of bugs and technical problems. When a game freezes and almost hard crashes as it is opening when you first run it, you know you’re in for something special. Among the most notable problems here is that the AI will occasionally just stop working. Enemies will idle randomly and not respond to any damage or react to your presence in any way. Allied NPCs will often just stand still and not help you at all while you’re getting swarmed by enemies. Sometimes NPCs will run in random directions before remembering where they were supposed to go and continuing on. Ascendant also has a very questionable physics system where powerful melee attacks will often send enemies flying across the room like they got shot out of a cannon. This can occasionally happen to the player as well. Another common oddity I faced was my character randomly dying for no reason when performing mundane tasks. One time I died while holding a box, one time I died while planting the respawn sapling and hell, one time I died while I was doing literally nothing. Beyond that, the game still has numerous features that are only half implemented or not working. For example, climbing chains results in wild, mostly uncontrollable swinging and doesn’t even have an animation, so your arms are still holding your weapon while you climb them. There is also a faction system that doesn’t do anything, pets with functions that only work sometimes, and a whole host of other problems. The craziest part is this is considered the “fixed” game. When it launched in 2018, it was apparently significantly worse. There were weapons disappearing, structures popping in and out of existence, a save system that actually erased your progress, and much more. The fact that the game still, to this day, is nothing resembling finished yet hasn’t been updated since 2019 shows that this was a doomed project from a very early stage.

Underworld Ascendant goes beyond disappointing and enters the realm of being utterly confounding. I can’t help but wonder what the hell went wrong with this game considering the talent that worked on it. Needless to say, I do not recommend this incredibly cursed dungeon crawler. Hopefully OtherSide can redeem themselves with their next title, but only time will tell. In the meantime, if you like the Ultima Underworld games and want to experience something similar, just play Arx Fatalis.

Interessantes Spiel
Viele haben eine falsche Erwartung und dadurch sind sie enttäuscht vom Spiel. Also was erwartet einen im Spiel. Es geht darum, ein Bösewicht zu töten und dabei den Dongenen zu ERKUNDEN und deren GESCHICHTEN zu entdecken. Also eher mehr erkunden und rätsel lösen, es gibt zwar Gegner und fallen, aber sind keine Herausforderung. Kurze Auflistung, was gut, schlecht und neutral aus meiner Perspektive.

Gut
+ Physik: jeder Gegenstand kann aufgehoben und verwendet werden, um ein Rätsel zu lösen oder Gegner zu töten oder Attacken zu blockieren
+ Feuer: Alles aus Holz ist brennbar, verschlössen Holztür, holz wand kein Problem, nutz feuer und deine Probleme sind gelöst.
+ Magie System alles geht über Runen Steine, die in combi , einen zauber wirken. Je nachdem was für ein Problem gibt es ein passenden zauber dazu.
+ Erkunden: Hinter jeder ecke könnte was sein ^^ oft mit zaubert der Erkundungsklasse combi, findet sich leider alles (Zu OP und ein stufe 3 zauber).
+ Vertonung: Mag die Erzähler stimmen sowie dass die Geschichten, die man findet, schön erzählt werden.
+ Geschichte: Zwar Standard, aber man muss aktiv danach suchen und gibt viele Kommentare an den Wänden.
+ Doungen: Zwar gibt es nur 7 Stück , aber sind schön aufgebaut und erzeugen eine schöne Atmosphäre
+ Man kann viel mit Licht und Geräuschen machen, hab ich aber nie benutzt

* der Skillbaum ist zwar cool und dass man nur Skills punkte, indem man bei dem Quest die zweite ziele erledigt sowie Heldentaten absolviert, aber viele Skills, blockieren das spiel selbst z.B Doppel Jump und Wandlauf, alle Puzzle können nun übersprungen werden, zum Glück erst spät freischaltbar
* Quest System 0815 aber einige sind recht interessant und dadurch lernt man die 3 Fraktion kennen und bekommt mehr Geschichte zu Gesicht
* Zeitdruck: Man kann verlieren, aber dadurch das man die Kerne die es aufhalten in sec Farmen kann, kann man das getrost ignorieren
* Bugs: Aber kein Game braking
* Viele Gegner arten, die stärker werden, wenn das bösen stärker wird und sich dadurch verändern
Negativ
- Tot hat keine Auswirkung auf das Spiel, könnt den Gegner klein schlagen und 100-mal sterben, bis er tot ist. Verändert nichts, kein Verlust, kein Reset, der Gegner nichts. Gleichzeitig könnt ihr fast überall euren Spawnpoint setzen und jeden Gegner besiegen, mit stumpfer Gewalt oder wie ich einfach durch Rennen.
-endboss ist langweilig
- Kein Wiederspielwert, was für ein doungen crawler, sehr schrecklich ist.
- KI der Gegner ist schrecklich spammt schubsen und schlagen , immer win.

Zusammenfassung
Brennt alles nieder und erkundet, dann habt ihr Spaß.

The biggest problem with Underworld Ascendant is that it tries to be a game for everyone, but spread their resources far to thin and failed on to "finish" each play style. UA is chock full of good ideas, but they often feel as though they are wrestling for control with other good ideas.

There's is one play experience that I enjoyed here and its not for the Action RPG player. It's the graphic adventure game, almost Shadowgate in full 3D. Much of the budget was put towards a sandbox physics and elemental system that would give the player freedom to do whatever they want. These are janky, but fun.

Two adventures that sum up the high points I've had in UA:
- Carrying an unstable fire potion across a room that's being patrolled by 2 skeletons to burn open the path forward.
- Trying to complete a quest without using a weapon and inciting the skeletons to engage my mission target, a skeletal totem.

The problem is that they run out of ways to use these systems fairly fast. I'd have loved more unique key items, certain intentionally designed puzzles, and less of an open world RPG. Worse yet, I've found spells that are replacing any need for these elemental puzzles. It's clear that they intenteded to make an action RPG...

So lets talk about the Action RPGs features.

There is a combat system, but its fairly bare bones. Mostly, I've encountered 2 variations of skeletons that I've been able to defeat by mashing the attack button... with any weapon or unarmed. You unlock abilities like Timed Parries, but the AI is broken enough that you don't need it.

There is a magic system that allows you to mix and match runes to discover new spells. You play with the combinations, need to discover its effects through testing, and name your discovery. This makes magic feel like an untapped force that you learn both in-game and IRL. But, I've unlocked ~20 spells and find myself falling back to the same few. It doesn't help that the mana balance makes me feel like sometimes I can cast unlimited spells and other times I've got nothing to work with.

The stealth is just on par with the original thief... an old game lacking most most QoL features. Combine this with absolutely garbage AI and the open navigation that lets you just walk around the enemies anyways. It's just not satisfying.

These RPG elements are tied together with a skill learning system, where you earn points through completing achievements. This gives you an early boost as you get the easy ones but it grows increasingly tedious to seek out chances to get achievements. You stop "Playing the game" and "Try to set up a way to get X achievement"

There's lots more random systems too. A trash loot system where you get dozens of weapons you don't want that break down and lose value with use, a bare minimum hunger system that slows you down if you don't eat, a strange quest system that resets the dungeons so that you replay the same map, and a doom tracker that makes enemies stronger.

There is so much here, but so little of it matters. UA isn't really a bad game, but nearly every system is underwhelming and I don't see it holding my attention for much longer.
