Very surprising game. Took me some time between first launch and longplay, I was not really hooked by the visuals and art direction at first, the "small" locations, but when I dug into it, I couldn't stop playing it until 100% completion.
Visuals and characters are very charming after all, music is discrete and well designed also, nice atmospheres, some puzzles made me struggle and restart like dozen of time, mostly because of 3D perception and camera choices, but it's not a real problem and it gives some challenge, controls are precise and fine.
I really enjoyed playing that game, thanks to the creators for that uncommon experience.
If it was a videogame I'd like to see the sequel :-)

There are clear shades of old Zelda (à la [i]Link's Awakening[/i]) evident here. And after experiencing my first of Shin'en's games via [i]Fast Fusion[/i] during the Switch 2 launch, I dived into the backlog to find this. Recommended if you want a laid-back, almost puzzler, almost collectathon, almost platformer to unwind to (even if some of those puzzles can get pretty obtuse). But boy, I'd sure love a sequel...

Ничего особо не ждал от игры, привлекла своей летне-круизной атмосферой. А получил в итоге отличную, крайне не напряжную, коротенькую игру.

Визуальный стиль симпатичный. Геймплей приятный и разнообразный, тут тебе и фрукты пособирать, и пальмы попинать, и по монументам попаркурить, и на сёрфе поганять, и фотографом подработать , и в шахте полазить, и вандализмом позаниматься и ещё кучу всего. На каждом острове есть как свои уникальные активности, так и общие для всей игры. Музыка и звуки приятные. Знание языка не обязательно, всё интуитивно понятно, та и он тут простой.

Единственное что хочется поругать так это кривоватое управление с клавиатуры и его "нажмите "?" чтобы продолжить". Игра делалась для геймпадов, так что лучше играть на них.

А если в целом, то отличная игра на пару летних вечеров.

This was a delightful game, played through the whole thing on steam deck without a single issue. The third boss kind of sucks, but with that sole exception (and the arcade games if you want to get 100%), this was pretty much a perfect chill game you can beat over a weekend. Some of the platforming is a little challenging and there were a couple unexpected jumps in difficulty, so while it looks like a kids game on the surface, it might be a little difficult or frustrating for some.

旅人主角坐着船长驾驶的小船往返于海上的遗迹岛屿间，探（po）索（huai）解谜历史遗迹，顺便帮助遇到的人们，拍摄指定人物景物的照片，较量特长方面的能力，进行各种有挑战性的小游戏等（像是三个街机游戏打破高分记录我打了好久），最终搭乘遗迹中的火箭前往目的地，亦或是旅程的起点YST。
游戏玩法挺丰富的，每个历史遗迹的开启方式和其中的解谜部分都各不相同，后期会使用到疾跑和二段跳；支线任务除了街机之外还有音游、冲浪、足球、引体向上、划船等；十层的地下矿井一眼望不到底，小心加耐心才能安全抱得所有钻石归（虽然失败次数太多后面懒得用绳索，直接凭感觉跳了），结果讲价下来1颗钻石还不值一个金币……就是剧情方面没啥展开，结局老旅人说好奇游戏第二部会怎么发展，我也期待一下吧！

I would like to love this game. The graphics are gorgeous. It's not a voxel engine but it's still cute voxel art and great colors.

The problem is that it's a purely gamepad-controlled game with free camera, with the inherent problem that jumps are awful, you never know where you are in space and where you'll be landing. That would be fine if this game had been an adventure/puzzle game, but it's not. It's a short, not so interesting story, and the puzzles are average. Yes, it's nearly entirely based on jumping skills and it's a nightmare. Basically the game exploits a flaw inherent to this kind of game.

It's all properly executed, it's just all based on a bad idea IMHO.
But if, for some reason, you happen to LIKE jumping in 3D with hardly any shadow to inform you where you'll be landing, you may love this game.

I think this kind of art style and engine would suit a 2D Zelda-like better.

After eyeing this game ever since its debut on the Nintendo Switch, I finally bit the bullet and bought it during the Steam Winter Sale of 2024.

You play as a tourist who's on vacation and travels to exotic islands in search of ancient monuments. Whilst exploring the islands, you'll stumble upon their inhabitants and tourists alike that offer you side quests in the form of to-do list items. These to-do list items let you partake in various island activities and really make you feel like you're on a tropical vacation!

[b]Pros[/b]:
✔️ Easy to pick up and play.
✔️ Captivating art style and atmosphere.
✔️ Clever puzzle design that has you scratching your head from time to time.
✔️ Unique, albeit somewhat frustrating, 'boss battle' design.
✔️ No unnecessarily hard or tedious challenges hindering 100% completion.

[b]Cons[/b]:
❌ Length and price - You can expect around 6 - 8 hours of gameplay for a full 100% playthrough that includes all Steam achievements. As this game rarely goes on sale, I recommend adding it to your wishlist and buying it whenever it goes on sale.

All in all, I would definitely recommend The Touryst if you're into cozy games and due for a relaxing vacation! 🏝️

Ein süßes kleines Game was mich wenigstens ein paar Stunden beschäftigt hat.
Die Grafik ist angenehm und der Schwierigkeitsgrad ist ebenfalls angemessen.

Für den OG-Preis von ~17 € ist das Spiel aber zu kurz, finde ich.

Digital Foundry is biased, I guess this could be called a great Xbox port, but it's not a "Superb Port" for PC.

Because I like voxel graphics (3d pixels), this was an instant buy when I learned about it (just now). Normally, it should take 4-6 hours to complete the game, but for me, it took a total of 9 hours during 2 evenings.

The first 2/3 of the game is excellent, fun, and intuitive. The last 1/3 of the game is confusing, random, and difficult. There are 8 small islands (overworlds), each with its monument puzzles (underworlds). It starts as a simple adventure game and ends with difficult-to-find boss battles. There are many mini-games (surfing, soccer penalties, 3 arcade games, quadcopter time trial, drum rhythm game), fetch quests, and collectibles.

Reasons why it's a bad PC port:
* menus and camera cannot be controlled with a mouse
* volume levels cannot be changed
* supports only 16:9 aspect ratio
* supports odd resolutions (opens in 1024x576 window mode, no 1280x720 fullscreen mode)
* game progress and graphic settings are both synced to the cloud (only game progress should, otherwise Steam Deck gets PC graphic settings and vice-versa)
* some shadows (underneath building ledges) look like 1080p shadows, even at 4k resolution.

This is an interesting game. I really like it, but prospective buyers should be aware of a particular quirk. Most of the game involves basic platforming challenges and puzzles, but there are a couple of confusing puzzles, and a couple of platforming challenges that are just diabolical. The ramp up in difficulty reminds me a bit of Trine where to Platinum that game required me reviving gaming skills from an era long lost. It's crazy. I don't consider myself a great gamer, so hopefully most people will be able to get through it like I did. Just be prepared for difficulty to go from Very Easy to Very Hard with zero warning.

This was fantastic! I just wish it had been done on a larger scale.

First and foremost, The Touryst is a game about exploration and adventure. You unlock more and more islands as you go and uncover each ones secrets.

While the game is somewhat of a 3D platformer, it also has plenty of minigames to break up the gameplay (some of which might frustrate). The game struck a perfect balance between the two for me.

This is everything I want in my adventure games, I hope they not only make a sequel, but make it far bigger and grander. Loved it!

Money was pretty easy to come by which gates a lot of what you can do, I wish it had been tighter in that aspect.

It must be said that it is a very short game for the price though, get it on a deep sale.

Otro de esos juegos donde la cámara es el enemigo principal. Esto se puede comprobar sobretodo en las secciones de plataforma donde se hace imposible adivinar la distancia de las plataformas.
Más allá de eso, y de que quizás se vuelva algo monótono por momentos, el juego está bastante bien. Es muy agradable a la vista y cada isla es divertida de explorar.

Yo que vivo en una ciudad turística doy fé que el juego es 100% realista en cuanto al impacto destructivo que tienen los turistas a cada lugar que van.

¡Ah! ¡Y aparece Dieguito Maradona! Ya con eso solo se vuelve un must play.

Excellent game, I played through it on playstation and figured I'd add it to my steam library to play it again. Unfortunately it doesn't have an option to enable playstation button prompts in this version, making it really hard to play. Usually there are mods available but I see none for this game either. But if you are used to xbox prompts I highly recommend the game. And if the developers read this it would be really great if you could enable a toggle to use either button prompt type, please :)

It's pretty short, and a bit expensive... A 14.99 pricetag would be more appropriate in my opinion.
So a definite "Get it on sale"

The Deck verified status is justified, runs at locked 60fps native res. Runs fine on linux, albeit if you want to play at 4k high refresh rate you will need a beefy GPU (6900xt hovers around 90fps).

Замечательное лайтовое приключение. Вы - усатый турист, которому надо везде побывать, всё сделать, раскрыть тайну островных монументов. Много разнообразия, мини-игр (ладе три полноценных аркадных автомата запихнули!), дополнительных заданий. Замечательная картинка и звук. Музыка играет нечасто, но всегда в тему. В процессе наш турист обзаводится новыми способностями и предметами. Советую!

Naturally, this review comes from the 'Steam should have a neutral review' angle.

The Touryst is a surface level fun little platformer with a few relatively simple puzzles thrown in. Until they aren't simple and require some very 'out of the box' thinking to solve. Generally progression is smooth but at times it feels as though the developers really didn't know how to make a cohesive answer to the puzzle and just left it as is. Additionally, there are a large number of segments that require your ability to use 3D platforming. Unfortunately, there is little thought into how this should be executed and some puzzles and movements feel almost like they're based on luck and not skill. This downfall is frustrating and confusing to a point.

The whole game feels like a huge scope and a limited budget. As such, I commend the development team of throwing in so much content in such a limited way. You can tell scope creep really showed it's head here and the dev team dealt with it well.

Overall I'd like to recommend the game, however, after finishing the story-line with approx 75% completion, I have 0% desire to return. The dev team deserves praise for what's on offer, unfortunately for me, it just isn't worth a revisit.

Il gioco sarà composto da varie isole ispirate a quelle reali ma con il nome storpiato come per esempio Ybiza, Santoryn, Hawayy e ognuna di esse avrà delle quest di vario tipo oltre che dungeon, puzzle e semplici battaglie con boss.
La trama è un semplice pretesto per visitare tutte le isole e per parlare con i suoi abitanti, non vi svelerò altro per lasciarvi l'effetto sorpresa.
Graficamente è una delizia per gli occhi, lo stile grafico è in cubi voxel con animazioni davvero ben fatte, sarà un piacere per gli occhi!
La longevità è di circa 4 ore se si vuole arrivare ai titoli di coda e raddoppiano se si vuole conquistare tutti gli achievement.

Insomma consiglio a tutti questo divertente giochino, perfetto anche da giocare su Steam Deck!

Se você procurar um jogo que envolva puzzles, história viajada/interessante e que de pra passar um tempo longe do estresse cotidiano, The Touryst é a pedida certa.
O jogo em momento algum te deixa sem fazer nada, pois a cada lugar e NPC que conhece são jogadas novas side quests divertidíssimas pra completar e que incentivam a conhecer o universo e vida entorno de todas as ilhas pelas quais você passa, além das principais que são atribuídas conforme progride a linha central da história. A cereja do bolo pra mim e o que me cativou é como a história e os aspectos gráficos trabalham em conjunto, tornando assim The Touryst não só um jogo focado em puzzles e mecânicas divertidas, mas também em uma obra completamente contemplativa.

I finished the in-game until 100% and still went back to get the 10 Steam achievements. I don't know why, but this game made me feel like I was 8 again playing Super Mario 64, or Banjo Kazooie all over again. Though, it's really nothing like those games except for the platforming elements. It was short and sweet (8.7 hours until getting 100%) and I hope there is a 2nd one!

The Touryst makes you feel like the tourist.
A very good looking and charming platformer/ collectathon. The puzzles and platforming are on the simpler side, but still rather satisfying. Loved the world, the visuals and all the small details.
The only downside is the game being a bit too short, would love to see a bigger game from these guys!

First released for the Switch in late 2019, this German-developed game caught my attention after watching John Linneman's coverage for Digital Foundry.

So it was the first game I tried when I got my Series X back in 2020, and it ended up being the first one I finished too, because I got hooked instantly !

The Touryst is one-of-a-kind: very relaxing, but also very intriguing and packed with secrets and nice little puzzles. It's also a beautiful showcase for 4K at higher framerates.

Released in Steam two years later, it never got the attention it deserved so I'm personally picking it for the Steam Awards 2022 as my GOTY.

[spoiler] Heck, there's even a cameo appearance of Diego Maradona ! And you can wear the Argentina jersey all throughout the game. For this alone, It should get the award GOTYEY ("game of the year every year", not the one-hit wonder). [/spoiler]

This is a very charming and polished game.
Every new area, puzzle, ability and minigame feels genuinely new and adds to the game.

The game runs flawless on the recommended specifications and the Steam Deck.

The only negative thing to say about the game is that it feels too short.

Let's hope there might be more adventures of the Tourist in the future!

So, I liked the game. It's more kind of an adventure with tasks to fulfil, and lots of attention to detail. I mean, really, a lot of detail. At some point it is also a little bit jump&run, but exploration is kind of the main theme here. Go on vacation, and enjoy. The game is made for enjoyment, and it is rather nice to see games which actually bridge the entrylevel regarding gameplay skill.

If you are looking for a platformer with more of an exploration theme, I recommend it. Don't go there if you can't appreciate details - like being able to dance on the dancefloor of the party, after setting all the equipment up.

If you were looking to get this game at some point, I recommend getting it and enjoing it.

You should play it with a controller and corresponding steam-input forced, and nothing will go wrong.

A remarkably deep game. I love that the pacing feels very laid back but that there's still a linear progression and that you have many goals you can approach in whatever order you want. The atmosphere as you progress gets consistently more interesting, so don't judge it entirely by the cover!

This is my 2nd playthrough (first on the Switch) and I'm finding it to have a good amount of replayability.

That game reaaally was fun to play. I didn't expect too much from it, but thought I'd give it a try when it was on sale. It turned out to be a relatively short but fun experience. A nice mix between exploration, mini-games and plattforming that never bored me throughout the whole experience.
Only downside were some technical issues I experienced which occured in form of fps-drops at some points of the game.
Nevertheless I'd strongly recommend to give it a try!

Sommer, Palmen, Sonnenschein... Urlaub ist schon was tolles, wenn da bloß nicht der ganze Stress wäre bis man an den Strand kommt.....
Wer sich stattdessen einfach mit einem sommerlichen Cocktail seiner Wahl vor den heimischen PC setzt und The Touryst spielt bekommt das Urlaubsfeeling deutlich entspannter.

Als Namenloser Tourist erkundet man zahlreiche Malerrische Urlaubsinseln und erfüllt dabei eine Reihe von Aufgaben, welche von dem erkunden uralter Monumente über das knipsen von Urlaubsfotos bis zum schmeißen einer Strandparty alles mögliche beinhalten.

Highlight des Spiels sind dabei natürlich die Inseln selbst, welche von Entwickler Shin'en wunderbar in Klötzchenoptik in Szene gesetzt wurden.
Egal ob man die Tiefen der Meere erkundet, den Sonnenuntergang am Strand bewundert oder in spärlich beleuchteten Mienen nach verborgenen Schätzen sucht, merkt man wie verdammt hübsch dieses Spiel ist.

Alles in allem kann ich The Touryst jedem ans Herz legen. Egal ob man nun Ersatz für einen Urlaub braucht oder nur die Vorfreude auf den Strand steigern will.

The Touryst, Yakuza ve Gta gibi oyunların içindeki mini gamelerin birleştirilip bir oyuna dönüştürülmüş hali gibi resmen. İlk başta ''ne güzelmiş'' deyip biraz oynadıktan sonra ana hikayeden devam etmelik oyunlarla dolu ama oyunun neredeyse tamamı bu olunca büyüsü kaçıyor. Kısa sürede fazla farklı şeyler göstermeye çalışması güzel ama bunlar sığ olunca bir anlamı olmuyor.

Oyunda içinde neredeyse tamamı dediğim mini gameler dışında içinde bulmaca olan dungeonlar da var. Birkaç bulmaca çözdükten sonra sentinel denilen garip varlıklar bizi durdurmaya çalışırken suyun üstüne taş koyma gibi basit şeyler yapıyoruz. Bu dungeonlardan yanlış hatırlamıyorsam 6 tane var ve maalesef bunlar da oyunun kendisi gibi kısa.

Onun dışında hikaye beklediğim gibi oldukça basit. Eleştiri olarak demiyorum değil zaten sakinleştirici olması gereken bir oyunun içinden derin bir hikaye çıkması saçma olurdu. Ancak hikayeye devam edebilmek için 21 görevin 15'ini yapmamızı istemesi hiç hoş karşılamadığım bir şey oldu. Evet, oyun bu haliyle bile oldukça kısa ama opsiyonel olması gereken niteliksizlikte görevlerin yapılmasını zorunlu kılması kabul edilebilir değil. Zaten yukarıda yazdığım ''mini gamelerin birleştirilip oyuna dönüştürülmüş hali'' benzetmesini bu zorunluluktan ötürü yaptım. Normalde görevlerin hepsini zaten yapmıştım ama opsiyonel sandığım görevlerin en azından bir kısmının zorunlu olarak yapılması gerektiğini görmek bir hayli canımı sıktı.

Grafikleri ise oyunun en iyi olduğu şey. Minecraft vari bloklardan oluşan dünya ve karakterler gerçekçi ışıklandırmayla gerçekten hoş duruyor.

Sonuç olarak The Touryst beklentilerimi karşılamadı ama yine de çöp kutusunun derinliklerine atacağım bir oyun değil, göklere çıkaracağım da. Belki de benlik değildir bilemiyorum. 5/10

I have to admit: I don't know exactly why I enjoyed The Touryst so much. Maybe it's the gorgeous voxelized graphics, that strike a sweet spot between nostalgia and modern gloss. Maybe its charming retro feel, complete with naive dialogue that feels straight out of the 8-bit era or is it the arcade-shop where you can play arcade classics like F-Zero etc.? Matter of fact, I couldn't stop playing this little adventure until I'd beaten it to 100% so 4 Hours straight.

Be warned that The Touryst comes with a few issues. It includes some very frustrating sections that feel like artificial difficulty, like the platforming rooms where you're prevented from rotating the camera. Also, it challenges you to complete 100% of the adventure, but pads it up with some minigames that feel "cheap" and not worth completing (Football / Soccer Game). However, it's hard not to forgive The Touryst's sins, when they come in such a neat little package. It also has some performance Issues and FPS dips here and there (Played on 144 FPS / V-SYNC ON).

In terms of gameplay, "The Touryst" can be divided into two parts: an Adventure-Puzzle Platformer, and a Minigame collection. It urges you to explore the 8 islands, interacting with the locale and unlocking the secrets hidden away in the monuments. The game doesn't hold your hand "that much"; you'll lose yourself in the world with the amount of activity you can do on the islands. The highlight of the adventure has to be monuments, as they are a test of the mind. You might struggle with the camera... it can be a bit awkward with getting an ideal view while platforming especially when it comes to the glowing balls (You'll know what I mean once you play it).
