Cool idea, creative aesthetics, conceptually fun.
However, it's a high-stakes stealth platformer with unrealiable controls. About a third of my deaths didn't come from a failure of skill, but from jumping or clinging to walls randomly not activating for whatever reason (I have some 10ish hours offline).
I want to like this game, but the jank controls ruin the gameplay.
In combination with the strict "time limit" (1 heist per day, 100 days limit), and the 1 strike you're dead (or out) and you just lost 1 day on a failed attempt, this is just a no-go for me. It's imperitave for an unforgiving stealth game like this to have a precise platforming engine for precise control.
Also, because of the random map generation, it's not uncommon to have questionable and sometimes nearly unwinnable setups due to enemy and terrain placement.
For some positives, the visuals and the music are pretty good, but that can't save the game.

The game is addictive. Even, when you played it through, you start again, because the buildings are random generated. Always new challenges.
One technical problem: When you play it with Steamdeck and an external controller and the external controller shuts down, because it went to standby, or the battery was empty, it is not possible to reconnect the controller with the game. You are stuck. You have to restart the game.
Kinda a ♥♥♥♥ game mechanically but gameplay loop is super addicting.
Replaying The Swindle here on Steam after playing it years ago on the Wii U (yes I played it on the Wii U which had an terribly instable performance), really changed my mind. Now I am an basolute fan of it.
It's actually a very good stealth game with a rogue like mechanic that actually gives you the fear of getting caught. No checkpoints, no retries and 100 days (tries) if you want to get to the good ending. The houses are randomly generated, so you really need to improvise, if you got a bad generated building.
It's all challenging but if you are open for that, you gonna have a great time, also because this game has one of the best soundtracks I have ever listened. They not only sound nice, but also every track has two versions: The undetected and the alerted one. So every mission start with a more calm theme but then gets crazy if you get detected. So you adrenalin not only goes up because you want to steal as much as possible before the police arrives, but also because the music kicks in like it wants to say: "Get the hell out of here as soon as possible!". Still on this day the soundtrack gives me goosebumps.
Besides that I actually like the aesthetic of the game. Thanks to it's simple design, it looks until this day great and it has some sort of a unique setting with the mix of steampunk, cyber-war and British style.
So if you like playing a stealth games with a challenge, The Swindle really is a must play.

The idea is nice but the game mechanics are a bit sloppy, the wall jumping is the best and the worst thing about this game, feels like all the levels are RNG generated, some times a computer will spawn with 12 different enemies in a way that would be impossible to get to it without definitely triggering the alarm.

A really compelling core, a game that demands that you get better at it and rewards you for doing so. When it works, it really is something special. It is marred by bugs - you absolutely will die because your input didn't register or something saw you through a wall. But I found the core of the game to be so strong that I was able to look past that.
This game is a lot deeper than it appears, the mechanics feel a little clunky at first but they are very consistent, and there is a lot of strategy in choosing the right upgrades, especially when going for a deathless run. I really enjoyed this game and especially 100%ing it

I totally understand negative reviews since this game is almost impossible to play with a controller due to all the bugs, some also present while using keyboard, But on the other hand, there is something really satisfying and addictive in the game's main gameplay loop. I don't usually enjoy sneaking in games and prefer a more direct approach, but this one spoke to me. Maybe owning my own secret thief association is what I need.

Great concept, worst contols Ive ever had the displeasure of knowing. Why cant I jump half of the time, why do I magnatize to walls, and why is is baked in that when you want to stay still on a wall you have to press the opposite direction to the wall. For a game that is completly unforgivintg in its stealth mechanics, the controls needs to make you feel like your in control, but half of the time I feel like im piloting an alcoholic.
After attempting to 100% this game and never touch it again my opinion of it has gotten worse. The achievement for completing the whole game as your starting character, meaning never dying the entire game, is ridicoulous. I have done well over 100 attempts and by percentage the ammount of times I die from poor controls and what i would call bs is around 75%. Melee hit reg is broken up close, you can stand in an enemy and not hit them, sometimes when jumping on a wall you cratar to the ground unless you return to the wall you just jumped from, unable to jump to a wall or landing on the opposite side you cling to. Spike hitboxes and placement make certain jumps near impossible. The ammount of times i have tried to double jump over a spike and just spammed the spacebar to make sure I get the second jump off and nothing happens makes me feel like the game isnt even worth playing. It's novel as an idea but the controls are so bad, and honestly when you only make some mistakes its fine, but when the game itself makes mistakes that you have no ability to change or grow from is unbelivably disapointing.
Th is game is not without issue, but its is really satisfying to actually pull of a successful heist and finish the game.
Late game definitely needs planning, especially the final heist.
This game is brutally hard and one mistake spells the end of the run. The game also has a fail state for play through. Do terrible and you'll need to start from the beginning and work your way up again. As result Each death is felt and can feel devastating especially if you're carrying a lot of money.
At time I was playing most bugs were ironed out, but you can still experience absolute BS death at times. There is a fair amount of learning curve.
Just minute ago, I was able to win this game on my switch for the first time ever since I bought this game about ten years ago. Finally, I can uninstall this bloody game and leave this all behind.
This game is by far one of the most frustrating games I've ever played. The controls are really finiky for a game that focuses so heavily on stealth. I can't count how many times seemingly a small move on my part turned into a frantic button mashing mess that resulted in death. Also, sometimes out of nowhere, enemies have seen/killed me through walls!
The game does grip you a lot. It has some nail-biting tension and the feeling you get from a successful run is great. However, the bad outweigh the good for me. Adios The Swindle, not gonna miss you <3

La verdad es un juego que me encanta, lo jugué por primera vez en ps3 en Español, ahora no lo he jugado mucho porque está en inglés y porque es ligeramente distinto al de consola... de igual manera es un muy buen juego que tiene una tematica y estilo muy diferente al resto, con sus paletas de colores atrae bastante y es muy divertido. Nunca lo llegué a ganar porque en Ps3 se lageaba demasiado por lo mal optimizado de los ultimos niveles. Aun asi le doy un 7/10.
Already played it at my friends house years ago, now bought it again on Steam and played through it again. The controls are quirky and sometimes don't do what you want them to do, but actually they are very predictable. So once you get the hang of it, you can indeed control the character very precisely.
I think this game is brilliant. It's just a very smart game that exploits your greed. But when you give into the greed, waste day after day trying to pull of the big bank heist - and then finally actually go out with 400k in your pockets, that's just so fulfilling. And it really caputres the "I'm a greedy thief who risks everything, every night" feeling.
No matter what everyone else says, for me it will forever be a game design masterpiece, one of the great works I will always remember.

I think The Swindle is a diamond in the rough.
The game has an extremely compelling core loop of trial and error that leads to player progression through skill improvement and upgrade acquisition. However the trial and error part of that loop can be frustrating as the game has some jank and bugs that can sometimes cause frustrating soft-locks or accidental player death.
Despite this, I think The Swindle is an excellent buy, especially during a sale.
I absolutely love this game for it's infinite replayability. I do admit that the controls are a little buggy at times, but after a while you start to learn where those bugs are likely to take place, and can just play around them. In addition, I feel like a big part of the game is trying to decide which risks are worth taking and which are not. Game can definitely be challenging, but with some practice and a lot of patience, it's not too hard to beat. I've done it many times, often with my day counter being higher than it was at the start!

There is barely any tutorial.
I did one level, got one useless "tutorial tip" and I discovered almost everything else by myself.
Then I did another level, got one equally useless "tutorial "tip", slipped for some reason, triggered an alarm and found out what happened about a minute later : armed people come through the walls and gunned me down instantly.
I've closed the game at that point.
I may check a Youtube tutorial later but this game went from boring to frustrating in less than ten minutes.

With all the problems this game faces, I feel like it’s overall a disappointment since this game could have grown a great following and helped introduce so many gamers to this genre (difficult games). But as it stands, I would say it’s probably not for you. If you have experience with difficult roguelikes (or lites), or you have the calmest temperament, you may get by but otherwise stick to more polished games.

I think this game had something great going for it. Its concept is amazing and enemy variation really keeps you engaged and always learning, but the amount of bugs in this game is just unforgiving especially if you consider that this game is meant to be challenging. Now, with all the bugs, it’s near impossible for those who want to give themselves personal challenges, and a heavy deterrent for new players (especially those new to the “get good” genre). Often times when I failed, it was because of bugs and not my decisions, which is never good as it taints the reward of actually winning when you do. The developers really should have spent more time testing this game. I’ve heard the excuse that the bugs are intentional as it raises the difficulty but that to me feels like Bethesda levels of incompetence since you can incorporate difficulty in better, less lazy ways. Here’s a list of the bugs you can expect:
1. Inconsistent input. Many times, jumps, hack quick time events, and tool selection will not register which will cause about 70% of your failed runs. Considering that these are the most used actions baffles me as to how the developers released the game in this state.
2. Stairs and sloped roofs often don’t register as ground blocks which causes the game to think that you’re falling, making it extremely hard to control your character (when you can). At some points, spike trap enemies will be spawned at the bottom of these blocks which causes the game to think that you fell on them, causing a failed run.
3. Enemy line of sight can clip through doors and armored windows. This is especially troll-like considering that there is a skill you can purchase which allows you to bash enemies through doors tricking you into thinking it’s perfectly fine to hug the wall and wait for an enemy to come close. I’ve yet to actually use that ability more than a few times because of this bug.
4. Finally, level generation is lacking. I’d say over 50% of the generated levels cannot result in a perfect run, and some are just doomed to fail, either because the enemy spawns make it impossible to bypass any room, or the rooms themselves are located kilometers below spawn so you’ll never have enough bombs to blow your way down. This is especially egregious in the Swindle heist (final level) since you’d think the developers would make sure that at least that one had proper generation. To some degree, I feel like the devs knew about this issue because if you fail during the swindle heist, you have to purchase the ability to run it again, but if you escape without alerting anybody and before grabbing it, you can run it again without having to purchase clearance. Maybe I’m reading into it, but I feel like the devs put that in so that, if you run into an unbeatable heist, you can effectively just reset it. That being said, I still don’t consider that a solution.

Died multiple runs in a row because the game just ate jump inputs. Game is janky and made an awful first impression, outside of the great art style.
I get why this game has mixed reviews, it's very janky. Half the times I died were because of some weird quirk with the game's physics, like I landed on a floor wrong and couldn't jump, or I went near an explosion after it went off and the hitbox was still there, or I got stuck in the animation of opening a door. And this game is very punishing when you make small mistakes, it's risky just moving around, so it incentivizes you to go slowly and carefully. That would normally be fine in a stealth game, but here it usually means waiting in a corner for full minutes while my (somewhat unbalanced) abilities recharge.
Still, I really like this game. It's a good roguelike with a really good upgrades/progression system, and once you learn to work around the jankiness it's really fun (and really hard, which is fun too). I just finally beat the game and it feels very rewarding. You just have to get past some frustrating deaths that weren't really your fault.
This is a fun game unlike any other I've played. It is difficult though so satisfying to play.

When I had first become aware of this game through a Youtube video by Game Maker's Toolkit, which was titled: "Is The Swindle the First Great Heist Game?" I was instantly intrigued. I have been a big fan of heist and stealth games for a very long time. Many of the games I find myself regularly coming back to are stealth and heist games, including: the Dishonored series, Monaco: What's Yours is Mine, and Heat Signature. Being recommended by GMTK, someone who's opinion on game design I regard very highly, I figured this game would fit right into my pocket, and become another one of my favorite games to frequent.
I was wrong. While this game is very well designed, from the music, environments, and enemies, to the traps, tech, and steampunk aesthetic, the experience is so buggy it borders on infuriating, and recently has gotten so much worse it's hard to think of a reason, outside of getting 100% completion, why anyone would want to sit down, relax, and turn on The Swindle, which by all accounts is an unplayable mess.
In The Swindle, you and an infinitely long line of professional thieves work to stop the police of your steampunk city from creating a device that will reveal the location of every thief instantly. You have 100 days before it goes live, and in that time you need to frequent the different locations around the city to relieve it's residents of their cash, and upgrade your abilities so that by the time you can afford to enter Scotland Yard, you are ready to pull off the ultimate heist. The only problem is, and by only I mean the laundry list of problems are, the controls suck, the game stutters and you experience lag spikes every 3 seconds (yes I timed it), and it's so damn glitchy in so many different ways that, even if you get *really* good at the game, you will still die frequently from the crap the game pulls.
CONTROLS:
The Swindle is unresponsive. There are moments where you will be jumping off the ground, and you won't jump. In fact, all but one of the times I have died to spikes has been due to this problem. When you aren't jumping on the ground it's also a gamble of whether or not your double jump will work too, because the game likes to spend your second and third jumps for seemingly no reason and without warning. In any platforming game, but ESPECIALLY one that punishes mistakes with instant death, poor responsiveness of your jumps will kill the experience beyond recovery. I found myself dredging through the game. At some point I made the conscious decision to stop getting excited about pulling off a big heist successfully, because there were so many past experiences where I just fell off the top of a building, walked directly into a spike trap, or placed a bomb and was unable to jump out of its way. It got to the point where enjoying the game was punished as I was reminded of why not everyone should be a programmer.
Other people will complain that this game doesn't include what I consider to be "luxury features." Things that likely should be included in a platformer, but that aren't strictly necessary. While I don't believe this game suffers a particularly large amount from these absences, it is worth noting that this game doesn't include things like coyote time, or variable jump heights. If you are used to platformers like Celeste, Mario Bros, or Ori and the Blind Forest, this game will feel very rigid, due to a lack of what many consider to be necessary features.
Wall jumping, however, is a feature that is included in the movement set of the protagonist, although, you will find yourself wishing you could avoid using it at times due to how poorly implemented it is. The walls are sticky, and wall jumping is a gamble, as you will sometimes find yourself going where you expect, and other times you will be completely robbed of your horizontal momentum and will fall immediately to your death. It seems that the intention of this game was to make every button press a gamble.
GLITCHES:
The Swindle is a buggy mess. In one level I managed to get stuck in 3 different set of staircases that were all supposedly destroyed before I was trapped where they once sat. At one point the bullets didn't render, until after one had collided with my body. There are several instances of the player become stuck in doors and windows throughout my play, at least happening twice in every single 100 day run. Whether the particle effects will show up or not appears to be tied directly to the seed of the level, as does whether or not your hacked drones will fight for you at all. At three different points during my first hour of playing I was forced to restart the game entirely, as I became trapped in the hack prompt, unable to exit or move. And every single time one of these things directly led to me being killed I was left with an overwhelming sense of frustration, and an even more prevalent feeling that this would not-so-eventually happen again, as it had happened so many times in the past. This game is unplayably glitchy, and frankly I think the developer, Dan Marshall, knew of this before he released the game. As a software developer, I don't know how someone could have packaged and shipped this without once experiencing the overwhelming mess that it is.
After all of this, however, The Swindle has a few redeeming qualities. The art and music is great. The style of the enemies is unique, and the designs of their attacks felt fresh and interesting. The sound design is equally good. Bullets hitting robots sounds like steel ball bearings being thrown at an aluminum pan, breaking a window fills your head with the sound of shards scattering along the ground, and the sound of a fully hacked stage: the winding down of every drone and camera, feels incredibly satisfying. There are elements of this game that were very clearly made with passion and excitement. At times I don't know how this game managed to become what it is, because it is obvious that at some point someone loved this concept, and wanted it to be good.
Despite this though, after playing for hundreds of hours, I cannot, in good faith, recommend this game. And while hidden beneath the layer of glitches, terrible controls, and awful design decisions, there is something truly exciting, the gleam of light you see is still tainted by the piercing smell of ♥♥♥♥ that permeates through every crevice of this game. At the end of it all, it appears to me The Swindle, the greatest one associated with this game, at least, was Dan Marshall's decision to release it in this condition, and then abandon it forever. Another great idea wasted on a sub-par developer.

To start, I hate roguelikes,especially since they so proudly advertise "No run will be the same."
Just because you play as a slightly different character in a slightly different looking area doesn't make the game new and fresh feeling. At least not to me. I'm not gonna be like "wow, this path leads down instead of up this time!"

Anywho, The Swindle is a game where you sneak into somewhere and try to grab cash. If you die before you make it out, you lose all the cash you stole for that round. Manage to bring it back home, and you can purchase upgrades to help you out from then on. You only get 100 tries (to do what exactly, I'm not sure) and then its game over. So you can do small heists for little pay off, or risk it big for the pockets/backpack overflowing kind of loot, but almost certainly get killed before you can bring it back to bathe in.
Everything kills you. You get one shotted by the enemies, falling from too high - basically just act like a real person trying to steal stuff and you should be good.
The main difficulty comes from the controls. They are very stiff and unresponsive. I'm pretty sure they designed it that way, but it still doesn't make it fun or remotely satisfying to play.
To top it off, I was constantly getting stuck on walls, sliding up and down them mercilessly like a malfunctioning Mega Man X when I just want to land on the ground behind a cop and club him in the back of the head.
Did I play for 100 rounds. Nah...I got bored on the second round. But I stuck it through for about 7, playing less and less careful each time as I got more bored with it. Actually, now that I think about it, it's scary how quickly I got bored. Those slightly different levels just don't do it for me I guess.
If you like roguelikes, then you'd probably like this though.

Most exciting 'platform' type game I've ever played. The skill required becomes increasingly more difficult and the levels are never exactly the same as they are dynamically generated. The music never gets boring.

Das Spiel ist wirklich schlimm. man will es unbedingt schaffen, stirbt aber an (für mein Empfinden) unfairen stellen. Ich starte es immer wieder neu, und kann nicht aufhören, ich will wenigstens einmal das spiel durchspielen.
Bugs an sich hab ich keine gefunden, man merkt halt, das es nicht durchgehend lädt, sondern die gebiete (zimmer) immer erst lädt, wenn man in das Gebiet kommt. Dadurch kommt man teilweise an Geld vom Boden, welches eigentlich schon despawned sein sollte, aber nicht hineingeladen wurde.

Dazu sei gesagt, du brauchst wirklich eine hohe Frust-grenze bei dem Game. oder Spaß am Sterben und neu versuchen (ggf aus Fehlern lernen? - Das klappt bei mir nicht, ich erwische mich jedes mal beim gleichen Fehler xD)

Its a fun game, but the controls need a huge amount of overhaul to make the game feel more fluid
I really wish I could recommend this. There was amazing potential here. But it completely failed for 2 reasons
- The controls suck. Which would be bad enough on it's own, but it's even worse when the game is extremely difficult and punishing. Mixing those things together leads to just such a frustrating experience, where even once you get really good at the game, you'll still keep dying every now and then on regular basis, except it'll be due to those slippery, unpolished controls, instead of you making a mistake and paying a deserved price. I have to imagine it wasn't intentional, they just didn't give it enough time and testing to the control system, cause it leads to nothing but pure frustration.
- The RNG level generator is unpolished. It can create levels that will be impossible to clear, even if you do and did everything perfectly. Which, in a game that really encourages full clears, is simply unfair. It's not generally super common, and of 2 biggest faults, this one isn't nearly as bad as the controls (which make me want to tear my hair out), but just like controls, it feels like the generator just wasn't given enough time to be properly polished
Overall, it's really frustrating. The game is amazing otherwise. Gameplay is simple, but keeps getting more challenging and complex. Clearing next levels is fun. The OST is superb, and deserves way more recognition. The artstyle is so pretty, although it does sometimes lead to really unreadable scenarios (but not often enough to be a big deal). You want to keep going "more more heist".
But the controls simply ruin it all, it's that bad. At this point playing, when I already am really good at the game, I find myself not to be worried about guards killing me, but the shoddy controls, I have to divert quite a bunch of effort to avoid dying to their unfairness. It's just so frustrating
Ok the controls are very weird sometimes (especially the stairs, claptrap's worst enemy) but the game is amazing. it's a real thief game, it's not for amazing killstreak or multi combo it's just using the right path and the right ability at the right time : patience and analyisis are keys to win this game !
I cannot recommend this platformer - the controls are clunky, it is very repetitive and the randomly generated levels layouts are really bad making you waste the limited days you have to reach the final goal.
The only positive I can give it’s the steam punk art style, but other than that, the game is not good.
I used to love this game. And when it works it is amazing. But over time the glitches have been compiling. The controls were always iffy. But being catapulted for fatal height and distance off of flat unoccupied rooftops is getting old. The glitches, however... I watched a door disappear into thin air, getting my thief killed in the process, tonight. There is no excuse for that.
I paid my money and have had my fun. If this was not an ongoing increasing issue I'd still recommend this. But, in it's current condition I can not. I truly wish I could. When working properly, The Swindle is an amazing epic level game. It's inspired. It's just *sigh* broken. If they ever do a sequel I'd pay attention to that one.
Хорошая игра, смог пройти за сутки. Чем-то похожа на Spelunky: враги и ловушки ваншотят; снаряжение почти всё полезное; если бездумно тратить бомбы, то можно застрять и придётся самовыпиливаться; платформинг необычный и его придётся учить, иначе игру не пройти.
Отличие в том, что тут есть мета-прогрессия и на уровне можно сидеть сколько угодно времени. Благодаря этому, смерть от рандомной хеpни не вызывает желание бросить игру. Здесь есть ограничение в 100 дней (100 попыток), после которого нужно начинать всё сначала, но мне этого хватило с запасом. К тому же, за деньги можно прибавить ещё 50 дней.
Бесили некоторые моменты:
1. Управление. Высота прыжка не регулируется + персонаж автоматически липнет и карабкается к стенам + в воздухе нельзя резко сменить направление. Как следствие, платформинг начинает опираться на удачу. Персонаж постоянно запрыгивает на двери, не может с первого раза залезть в окно, запрыгивает на блок, где стоит враг и т.д. Иногда герой прыгает от стены строго вертикально, не может ни за что зацепиться и, если не вкачены скиллы на ловкость, разбивается. Пара десятков смертей была связана именно с управлением и из-за этого приходилось играть аккуратно и сидеть на уровне по 20 минут, молясь, чтобы это время не было просрано из-за неудачного прыжка.
2. За исключением базового обучения, игра не объясняет свои механики и предлагает изучать всё методом проб и ошибок. И это было бы нормально, если бы каждая ошибка не стоила жизни. К примеру, игра не говорит, что если взорвать или ударить током пульт охраны, то сработает тревога. Но если ты уже взломал его или он сломался по вине противника, то тревога не сработает. Если поставить бомбу на крышу комнаты с пультом, то он не взорвётся. А если поставить на стену, то взорвётся. Логики в этом никакой нет и пояснения от игры тоже, поэтому первое время ты будешь раз за разом умирать или поднимать тревогу, пока не поймёшь все правила.
Доходит до смешного. В игре есть бонус "Призрак", который даёт прибавку к деньгам в конце уровня. Но что для него требуется игра не говорит. Нужно не поднимать тревогу? Никого не убивать? А вот и нет, нужно убить всех роботов и собрать 99% денег на уровне. Это я узнал и руководства в интернете после прохождения игры.
Аналогичная проблема у прокачки. Никаких цифр. Игра говорит "увеличивает скорость взлома", "взломы станут давать больше денег", "устройство будет откатываться быстрее", но насколько, узнаешь только когда купишь и проверишь в игре (ну или в интернете прочитаешь). Из-за этого много полезных скиллов я взял только в конце, а они могли значительно упростить жизнь.
3. Финальное ограбление. Тут накладываются все проблемы выше и вдобавок появляются новые. Во-первых, за каждую попытку нужно платить 400 тыс. денег (для такой суммы придётся 1-2 раза полностью зачистить предыдущий уровень). Во-вторых, два устройства на этом уровне бесполезны (жучок и удалённый подрыв). В третьих, т.к. по доброй традиции игра ничего не объясняет, некоторые сюрпризы этого уровня скорее всего застанут вас врасплох и несколько попыток у вас уйдут впустую. Фана в этом никакого нет и как проходить это без гайда я не представляю.
Итог: игру я всё же рекомендую пройти. Положительных моментов в ней очень много, графика и музыка тоже отличные. Геймплей хоть и хромает, но принесёт удовольствие, особенно если до этого вы играли в Spelunky или Streets of Rogue.

it's a hard one, no doubt. Most of the negative reviews for "The Swindle" speak to the hardly normal controls, and yes, they do take a minute to get used to; or as close to "used to" as you can get. But in another sense, that's part of the charm. There is no other game quite like it: you'll emerge from most every heist with a white-knuckle grip on your controller. your heart pounding. And the reason it works so well is because you know that - because of the wack controls, among other things - one minuscule slip up or a single [i]fraction[/i] of a second that you aren't paying full attention could mean death. Overall, this is a great experience, but perhaps not for everyone.
Enjoyed the game a lot.
Veeeery buggy though. Lost many a run because of it.
Its a great roguelike game with lovely visuals and a banger soundtrack.

一番問題なのはリチャージが必要なアクティブスキルが強すぎる点だ
普通スキルにクールダウンがあるのなら制限時間ぐらいつけるものだが、
このゲームにはそれがないのでスキルを使って小休止を繰り返すのが
最適解なので、ひたすらチャージ完了まで別のことをするだけのゲームになりがち
あと内部が本当にランダム生成なので、壁に覆われた部屋ができることが多い
一応オブジェクト破壊のスキルはあるものの有限なので勘弁して欲しい
落下死という概念があるのもウザイ
しかも金払って落下死回避のパッシブを取っても、落下中にジャンプボタンをホールドしてないと
発動しないという謎仕様。それぐらいオートにしてよ……
正直人によってはすぐぶん投げてしまうような雑な感じのゲームだが

Jump, steal, repeat
Terrible controls, everything doesn't quite respond when you hit the button. No other way to explain it really.
I want to love this game, but a few things make it feel like just a waste of time. For one, the controls are horrible. Jumps are laggy at times, and there seems to be no jump 'buffering' or 'coyote time' as you find in many other platform games. Multiple times I attempted a jump in last-second scenarios or just before I landed and died because the jump never occured. Double jump is inconsistent, where sometimes you can scale 3-tall windows, and other times it just seems impossible.
Difficulty is another factor for me. I'm a adult and I simply don't have time to play through a game multiple times in order to learn everything about it before I can play through it and potentially defeat it -- especially when poor controls that I don't feel like I can trust 100% get in the way. On a scale of complexity, I've sunk over 15 hours into the game and on any single playthough, I've never had more than 100K to spend at any one time, but in order to have a chance to beat the game and steal the "devil's basilisk" item at the end, you need to have been able to save up at least 600K in order to unlock the security clearances. It just feels unatainable unless I'm willing to spend 60-100 hours "getting good", which I don't have time for that.
One more thing about difficulty. There are 6 different levels and they get progressively harder, but as you level up your gear and abilities, the levels themselves seem to get harder and harder. If you level up your gear, but still can't make any progress on a higher level area, then don't expect to find it much easier by going down a level, because you'll be met with far more enemies and security measures than were ever on that difficulty level before. It makes the levels feel pointless because either one you choose ends up being frustrating.
The Swindle is a fantastic concept. It has a solid core idea, simple but tense stealth mechanics, and an interesting artstyle, all of which should've made it a great stealth games. But like others have said, despite all that, it feels sloppy. I can accept when I made a mistake and lost a level when it's on me, but a large majority of my failures in this game were solely because the game controls horribly.
It really sucks because I found EVERYTHING about this game's concept great, but its execution is just plain frustrating.
Queria muito ter gostado desse aqui. Gostei demais da arte e do conceito, porém o gameplay sofre e torna o jogo super frustrante. Movimentos irresponsivos e esquisitos, personagem "grudento" nas paredes.. as vezes ate golpes que nao registram nos inimigos. Recomendo caso você tenha dinheiro de sobra e queira algo interessante, caso contrario, cai fora.

After playing the game enough to beat it three times and almost enough to no-death it, these are my findings.

This game has little to no visual bugs, but has some absolutely unforgivable gameplay bugs.
- Once in a blue moon, hacking doors will softlock you, ending your heist. This has happened to me at least 5 times.
- If any of your keybinds are set to mouse 0, upgrade menus are often unusable
- Avoid the teleport upgrade at all costs. In the span of an hour I had to reset 3 missions due to softlocks.

Despite the outrageously impacting bugs and controversial elements, many elements of the game are fantastic. You can tell a lot of passion was put into it. The art is beautiful, the music is at the top of my list, and the general gameplay loop is great.
Buy this the same way you would buy Getting Over It with Bennet Foddy. Expect lots of negative emotion, with the payoff of great satisfaction.
I have tried to get into this game on 3 different occasions and I stop playing for the same reason every time. The controls are just not tight enough. In a game that often requires precision movement and jumping sadly this game just doesn’t have the controls to match.
The game itself is very interesting and I really like the concept. Unfortunately dying for stupid reasons just takes away a lot of the fun.
The concept is very cool, but sadly the execution fails. This game was a frustation generator.
On the good side, we have a good initial idea of a heist that can go wrong and put you under pressure. Tools and knowledge for you to improve and a countdown to make sur that you'll want to go home with as much money as possible. Artistic direction and OST are cool and unique.
But gameplay-wise, the game can't deliver on its promises.
No tutorial on any new enemy which means forced failure and situations like "wait this guy with no explosive on him who is lighted like the background will kill me with the biggest possible explosion???" .
UI for upgrade is not clear and after this you won't be able to see twice any tutorial on any mechanic if you completed the level after unlocking a mechanic.
Controls are incredibly clunky while every mistake makes you lose instantly. No second chance. This type of game can't be both unprecise and unforgiving.
The teleport feature is cheap and seems to have been restrained heavily to the point that I thought that I just had bugs with this feature.
Last level seems to have been developped to be extremely difficult but is just a long and repetitive punishment when you fail. It could have been a brilliant way to tell the player "look where you are now" and give him the opportunity to use every tools acquired but no it just has to be hard and unforgiving.
Flying drones that goes on randomly and make you wait without knowing when you can act is textbook what you don't want on an infiltration game.
Many situations seems to have been created to punish the player and create "gotcha" moments, it might be fun for the creators, but it's not for players. The game and level design can even create situations where you can get stuck somewhere, the only solution implemented for this is a button to kill your employee and fail your heist.
It seems to be on the verge of being an excellent game but lacked the polish for this.
I'd rather have a balanced and polished game experience than a plethora of visually unique characters.

I tried this game out because it was recommended by a game design channel I follow. The premise is that it’s a sort of roguelike heist game, where every caper is a randomly generated building full of guards and cash for you to steal, and between heists, you can spend your cash on various upgrades.
Unfortunately, I hated it. The game is incredibly sloppy and amateurish, with wonky physics, bad level design, and unclear mechanics. I immediately whiffed my first 3 heists just because I couldn’t figure out how to open doors, and lost several more because the wall jump and attack physics were incredibly clunky and unresponsive. The level generation algorithm also feels very sloppy, with difficulty varying wildly — sometimes you’ll get an easy route with only a few guards, sometimes you’ll get a hallway teeming with spike traps and guards that’s virtually impassable. Sometimes there are even sections of the level that are literally impossible to reach, which the game attempts to patch over with bombs you can use to destroy walls (and, later, a teleportation ability) — but I never seemed to have enough bombs to get through, because the walls are incredibly thick and bombs only have a blast radius of one tile. You can’t attack downwards (even though the attack hitbox looks like you should be able to), so you can’t do anything to a guard right below you, and there are tons of situations where a guard can end up trapped on a single tile, making them impossible to defeat due to this — trying to jump-attack them always seems to make them notice me.
I was also frustrated by how much content was gated by upgrades. You can’t even access other levels until you purchase them, and incredibly basic skills like bombs and hacking computers (the source of the vast majority of cash in levels) aren’t provided to you by default. I spent my whole playthrough confused, thinking “Is this literally impossible or did I miss an upgrade?” If you’re caught, you can disable the alarm by finding and hacking the security station… but only if you’ve purchased the late-tier upgrade to do so, otherwise there is absolutely nothing you can do and your only option is bail if you make the slightest mistake — which, ironically, that same game design channel identifies as a failure in stealth design.
The game does effectively encourage risk, the thing the game design channel praised it for, but that’s the only thing it does well. I quickly got burned out by how frustrating, repetitive, and grindy the game was.
This game is a mixed bag for me. I really enjoy the concept, and I'm glad to have played through the game successfully.
Not everything about this game is great, though. Movement controls aren't as precise as you'd like for a game based on stealth. They also aren't quite as forgiving as you'd like: there is no jump buffer or air time, so jumping early (a few frames before your feet hit the ground) or late (just after you leave the edge of a platform) don't register as jumps. Most modern games have these features, so a game like this without them will feel frustrating at times. Additionally, the game does occasionally have some bugs related to movement, which can result in jump inputs not registering (For example, sometimes when on slopes, you enter a weird animation like you are "sliding" down, and this can eat jumps. Also, when you have double jumps, what should be a first jump occasionally seems to count as the second). These issues result in some very frustrating deaths. I had moments where I had to walk away from the game because of deaths that felt very unfair.
Despite this, I will recommend this game to anyone as long as they understands these issues going in.
It does have its moments, but more often then that its more of a rage game that feels super hard. if you like games like super meat boy then you'll like this. otherwise I don't suggest buying
Absolutely fantastic game. Has a nice mix of trial and error with some really fun mechanics thrown in. One of my favourite games.
I want to love this game - the concept is fantastic, and the gameplay holds up - but the controls are awful. For one, "clinging" to walls uses the opposite control scheme of any other game I've played with wall climbing. But even worse, sometimes pressing a button on a gamepad just doesn't register at all. Given the importance of precise platforming in staying stealthy, missed jumps due to faulty controls absolutely kills the flow.
This game feels like one of those flash games you used to play on Kongregate that was really fun back in the day but doesn't quite hold up now, but still has that fun core gameplay that sucked you in all those years ago.
7/10, repetitive and sometimes frustrating but fun and exhilarating at it's peak.
Clunky controlles, moments where the game seems unfair because it killed you through glitch like things or the procedual generation of maps which make your build unusable for some little heists are the big downsides of the game. But if you pull through the pressure will lessen, you get your hands on very cool items and tools and every map gets more amusing and tense with every try. The style and feeling of thieving your way through london just gets you into a pleasent fever, where you have to weigh risk and gain. If you are easily frustrated I can't recommend this game. If you plan on buying it anyway, stay on the different levels for a longer time till you got good tools. No reason to haste from lvl to lvl.
Having immersed myself in The Swindle for the past couple of years, both on PC and Xbox One, I can unequivocally declare it as one of my all-time favorite games. Notably, the music intensifies when detection occurs, creating an immersive sense of urgency—particularly palpable in the later stages when attempting to abscond with a substantial sum and a lucrative XP multiplier.
While the diversity in level design is a commendable feature, there's a minor hiccup in the early game where certain levels can become insurmountable due to limited resources. Although the option to terminate an employee mitigates this to some extent, it comes at the cost of losing hard-earned XP progress.
Undeniably, there are moments of unresponsiveness in the gameplay. One contributing factor is the intentional restriction of mobility during stealth, including landing, which, while a designed feature, may initially feel unresponsive. Additionally, jumping, a pivotal action, occasionally exhibits a slight lag. However, these instances are infrequent, and the game's overall performance remains commendable.
In conclusion, despite these minor imperfections, I wholeheartedly endorse The Swindle. Its rough edges, when compared to some AAA titles, are inconsequential. I eagerly anticipate a sequel, whether it materializes in a decade or three. Here's to successful thieving endeavors for all!

Great game with great concept and fun gameplay. However, the control is quite bad. Half of my characters' deaths are because of the clunky control. It is hard to explain how unreliable it is.
But, if you are willing to look past and accept the flaws, it's not a terrible game.

I honestly wanted to like this game, but there's so much that gets in the way of me finishing it that I simply can't find it worth my time. I think it's a cool concept, almost like gunpoint in a way but a bit more freeform in design. Often the random generation doesn't exactly work to its benefit though. there are some well laid out paths I've encountered, but often they are instead completely avoidable because of a lack of money present or they are buried deep underground where it takes my whole stash of bombs to reach in a very slow manner. But the main reason I'm giving this a dislike is the movement. I could forgive a bit of quirky map design, but it simply feels so clunky just to perform basic jumps, let alone fancy maneuvers with wall climbing or slashing enemies. Everything just feels either unresponsive or preset to the point where you can't move how you need to. Almost every death felt like either a result of the movement not working correctly or an unexplained function of the things surrounding me. Due to the lack of any tutorial, it leads to many unintuitive deaths and there's not even anything on the screen after explaining how you died. It simply missed the mark just enough times to make the game be more frustrating than fun.

Воры будут выглядеть один прикольнее другого: повязки, шляпы, гаджеты, забавные очки, наряды и прищуры. В самый разгар самоизоляции мне даже попался не виденный ранее (и, увы, не встреченный более) человек в ставшей приметой нашего времени одноразовой медицинской маске. Старые, молодые, мужчины, женщины, паровые киборги. Биографий нет – лишь новый внешний вид и сочное английское ФИО. Выбирать нельзя – тебе просто дают следующего… как только предыдущий вор умирает на задании.
А они умирают, о да!
Ведь The Swindle не прощает ошибок.
Всегда быть настороже, планировать каждый свой шаг, каждый прыжок и каждый удар – единственный залог успеха. И удача, конечно! Куда же без неё в славном деле взлома с проникновением.

Абсолютная рандомность даёт самый главный плюс: невероятную реиграбельность! Вы уже начинаете понимать принципы, приёмы и движения, но каждый уровень – абсолютно незнаком и не встретится Вам больше никогда. И каждый раз придётся осматриваться, выжидать и идти на риск.
Стоит одному из охранников увидеть воришку, как робот бросается в атаку, сирены ревут, а полиция выезжает. Роботы-полицейские, в отличие от охранников, здесь неубиваемы в принципе и крайне мотивированы. Они Вас достанут, не сомневайтесь!
Поэтому, как только поднимается тревога – рвите когти!
Но ведь вожделенный компьютер с наживой так близко… Вы шли к нему и Вы хотите свой куш! Так дерзайте! Попробуйте и схватить деньги и добраться до спасительной капсулы раньше, чем копы доберутся до Вас!
...кстати, а где Вы припарковались на этот раз?! Справа или слева от здания? О, это лучше запоминать, поверьте! Нет большего разочарования в этой игре, как убегая от сирен приземлиться не на той стороне.
Идти напролом здесь просто невозможно – такие уж условия. Здесь нет полоски жизни. Любое повреждение означает смерть. Если успели что-то пограбить, ещё и банкноты разлетаются красивым фейерверком.
Чтобы пройти дальше, нужно вкладываться в развитие воров. Это единственное, что не исчезнет с потерей очередного претендента. Следующий ворюга начнёт с теми же умениями и гаджетами – больше прыжков, способность взламывать быстрее и бить сильнее.
Может быть именно ему или ей повезёт схватить главный приз… а главное – сбежать с ним?
Время не ждёт! Вам нужно будет успешно украсть систему полицейского наблюдения «Дьявольский Василиск», которая включится ровно через 100 дней. Каждая миссия – один день. Тик-так, тик-так. Не успеете – славные времена ночных взломщиков Лондона закончатся навсегда, наблюдение будет повсюду и копы победят. Так дерзайте! Оставайтесь незамеченными и крадите наличные. Сложнее уровень – больше денег.
И сложнее их унести, конечно же.
Эта прекрасная игра очень сложна. Не для вхождения в процесс, нет-нет. Первых противников Вы будете вспоминать с тёплым чувством – ах, какие замечательные были глупенькие охранники, просто влево-вправо ходили, падая ниц от одного удара дубинки.
Но если Вы продолжите… однажды очнётесь прыгающим во все стороны, матерящимся и лихорадочно вспоминающим, где же припарковались. Так справа или слева? Просто беги!
Бомбы кончились, невидимость перезаряжается, а в Вашу сторону уже летит рой очередных роботов–пчёл… и до выхода так далеко.
Крик испуганной мартышки и красиво разлетающиеся зелёные банкноты – вот что бывает здесь так часто… Слишком часто.
Но если Вы сможете…
Если обезвредите и перепрыгните сотни ловушек и пара-ботов, увернётесь от дронов, выстрелов, камер и молний…
Если отключите все системы наблюдения, не подняв тревогу, убежите от погони и, дьявольски хохоча, взмоете в небо с василиском подмышкой…

Да, в конце покажут мультик. И рейтинг. И статистику.
Но это будет уже не важнее чем…
Украсть этот чёртов василиск ЕЩЁ РАЗ!

Scratched my itch for stealth / infliltration / grab the cash and run kinda game. I was surprised how good it is.
Going into the game, I was hoping to debunk some of the complaints about the controls, but they're not good. Fortunately you can mitigate or work around a lot of the issues. I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Glad I didn't let the mixed rating ward me off from it.
I've played this game (too) extensively on Wii U back then, and when i saw the Steam page a while back, i knew i HAD to play it again. I'll keep it simple, the graphics and music are astounding, i still am very much a fan of that. i not such a fan of the level generation, the ai, and the cost of the skills you obtain through your run. This game, in this state, is not compatible with casual play at all, its grindy, it requires precise platforming, and is quite punishing, so do expect to sink a lot of hours into this game if you intend to achieve the final heist (which is the only objective of the game). Overall i think the game is fine, but it is flawed, and that sucks because i love it. If i could vote for both a thumbs up and a thumbs down i would.
