Cute and soothing little game that was found when I bought Squeakross! I loved the visuals, the music, and I really enjoyed the squeaking I could do. Although I felt the tasks for the ending were a little tedious, I still enjoyed the game and it was fun to play as Lila in the game!

A cute and relaxing game for when you want to lean back, look at a nice town, and most importantly, play as a lovely mouse. 😊

It's a relaxing game without any combat or time limits, explore a little town at night, collect hidden light-bulbs all over town, and do some little quests that range from fetch-quests, finding people or doing little "mini-games".

None of it is very hard, even the "collect all light-bulbs" achievement, which at first gave me "collect all Riddler trophies vibes" is perfectly doable thanks to unlockable in-game help.

And that's one thing the game does very nicely in general: It manages to find a great balance between giving you a task, but not making the task obnoxious. You see a puzzle which makes you think "oh, it's one of those!", and you don't like "those"? Don't worry: The game will either make it relatively easy, or split things up nicely. No constant retries or doing the same thing for too long at a time.

I really liked that.

So, if you search a challenge, I assume this game might not be for you. But if you want to play as a cute mouse, enjoy a quaint, relaxing town at night, find hidden collectibles and listen to relaxing music while doing all of this, I recommend this to you. I enjoyed it, and I'd love to, hopefully, meet Lila again in another game!

Eins vorweg: knuffiges Spiel.

Technisch ist das Game zwar eher auf dem Stand von 2015 was Texturen und Gestaltung betrifft, dennoch hat der Entwickler es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, dass auch Ultrawide-Monitore (bei mir 32:9 in der Auflösung 5.120 x 1.440) unterstützt werden. Das ist natürlich nicht immer ganz perfekt, speziell in den Zwischensequenzen, aber aller Ehren wert. Dafür ein dickes Danke, das schaffen manche AAA-Games nicht.

Abseits der Grafik hat der Rätsel-Plattformer einen guten Zustand und dürfte mit fünf bis sechs Stunden Spielzeit für alle machbar sein. Ich habe aktuell sechs der neun Missionen bereits erledigt und befinde mich wohl schon im letzten Spielabschnitt.

Die Steuerung geht gut von der Hand mit dem Gamepad, manchmal macht die Kamera aber etwas Probleme, wenn diese fest vorgegeben ist. Da hatte ich beispielsweise bei einem Kabelrätsel leichte Probleme, weil ich durch die feste Perspektive das Kabel kaum finden konnte. Aber Schwamm drüber, Steuerung funktioniert und man braucht wirklich nur sehr wenige Tasten, sodass das absolut Einsteigerfreundlich ist und weder Steuerung noch Rätsel frustrieren.

Die Rätsel sind ohnehin - wie die Charaktere - recht seicht und man findet mit ein wenig Suche immer den Weg zum Zielort. Das kann manchmal ein wenig Trial-and-Error sein, denn manchmal ist es nur eine kleine Lücke im Zaun, die ermöglicht, dass man weiter kommt. Hier hilft einfach Augen auf und etwas Geduld.

Die Charaktere selbst sind für mich mit die größte Schwäche im Game, insbesondere die Dialoge und der flache Humor und Inhalt dieser Dialoge. Aber hey, für diese Art von Rätselgame kann man darüber hinweg sehen.

Am Ende kann ich - auch wenn ich das Game noch nicht abgeschlossen habe - empfehlen, dass man es mal in einem Sale für nen schmalen Taler mitnimmt, wenn man nichts wirklich Großes erwartet. Denn groß ist weder das Niveau der grafischen Darstellung, noch die Rätsel und auch nicht die recht überschaubare Spielwelt. Dennoch, wer es mag der kann zuschlagen und wird ein paar gute Stunden haben.

This was such a fun little adventure.
Running around as a little mouse to fix up the town and restore power while eavesdropping on the various npcs in their houses was an absolute delight.

This world is great fun to explore, running around streets and up across balconies and rooftops to help out the spirits. Really recommend giving it a go.

Less A less serious offense is the lack of gameplay justification for the main character being a rodent. It could be any animal (fox, hedgehog, cat, dog) or even a fictional character ( spirit, gnome) and the gameplay would not have changed. As a rat, I want to eat constantly, I want to hide food, I want to jump outside the set zones, I want to wash my face, I want to manipulate small things with my little paws, I want to communicate with other rats, I want to use my sharp nose, I want to climb walls and pipes and I want to gnaw on wires. And no, squeak button will not replace this.

My other complaints are:
- Gameplay is not challenging.
- Animations are good for everyone, except the main character. It feels very stiff.
- Repetitive dialogs.
- This is a rat, not a mouse. I love rats more, but this is kinda disrespectful.

Artstyle and music are good tho.

This must be the origin story of Pikachu? The game is cute, the animations and unskippable cutscenes are a teensie bit uncanny in places, however, the game has a LOT of heart and is really chilled out and pleasant to play. I found it quite sweet, even the tiniest of heroes can make big differences. It's a short but sweet game. A delightful platformer where you play as a helpful little electric mouse. It's a simple, relaxing time. There's no jump button, so traversal is mostly about gaining altitude in small ways and then moving between rooftops or falling onto new paths. The Spirit and the Mouse ist genau die Art von Spiel, die mir immer wieder zeigt, dass nicht jede Spielerfahrung eine 300‑Stunden‑Triple A sein muss, um zu begeistern. Manchmal reicht ein gemütlicher Abend (oder zwei), eine charmante Idee und eine Maus mit erstaunlich guter Motorik.

Dieses Spiel sieht einfach liebenswert aus. Französisches Flair, die unterschiedlichen Lichtquellen, die detailverliebten Ecken. Alles wirkt, als hätte jemand mit viel Geduld und einem sehr weichen Herz für niedliche Dinge daran gearbeitet. Und dann sind da natürlich die Kibblins: kleine, wuselige Stromkobolde, die aussehen, als wären sie aus purer Freude modelliert worden. Allein für die würde ich das Spiel nochmal starten.

Die Steuerung der Maus ist angenehm präzise, sodass man sich schnell in die Rolle hineinfindet. Nur an ganz wenigen Stellen hat die Kamera kurz gemeint, sie müsse ihre eigene Persönlichkeit ausleben.

Spielmechanisch findet man vieles wieder, was in dieser Art von Adventure üblich ist. Sammeln, kleine Aufgaben, Erkundung, ein bisschen Plattforming. Aber alles funktioniert sauber, intuitiv und zeitlos.

Besonders angenehm: Die Erfolge sind fair, gut erreichbar und nicht grindig. Einfach entspannt erspielbar.

Fazit: Ein liebevoll gestaltetes, kurzes, charmantes Abenteuer, das genau dann endet, wenn es am schönsten ist. Perfekt für ein entspanntes Wochenende und ein Lächeln im Gesicht. Hatte ich lange auf der Wishlist, um in einem Sale mal zuzuschlagen.

Если закрыть глаза на способ приобретения крыской сверхспособностей, история приятно удивит бескорыстностью и наивностью. В ней нет жестокости, но есть грустное начало и душещипательная концовка, которую можно трактовать по-разному. Здесь нет свободно применяемой команды "прыжок", что заставит думать, куда и откуда совершать прыжок веры, но достаточно мини-игр с миленькими киблинами. Единственное, что может огорчить - баги. Разработчики три года мониторят обсуждения, но пара багов всё ещё остаётся. Во-первых, с клавой/мышью можно профукать достижение с загадками Килёрна (с геймпадом этого не происходит). Во-вторых, всё ещё бывают глюки с распознанием геймпада, если затрагивать клаву с мышью, сворачиваться или переключаться на другой монитор. В остальном на вечерок игра просто отличная.

I think i found this delightful game somewhat by accident. Perhaps I saw a post on X from the developer and placed it on my wishlist to check out later. Was a well polished experience, with easy and smooth controls. And the story was delightful and uplifting. It's the kind of game that inspires you to complete the achievements and leaves you wanting more. Not at all boring as some reviews have mentioned, but certainly a slower paced cozy game with plenty of interaction and growth as you progress. Fun collect-a-thon! The story is straight forward and the characters are all cute. The only problem I had was with the music in the first two areas. There's a particular "ding" that sounds exactly like my text tone. So the 5.3 hours probably would have been more like 4.3 hours if I wasn't constantly putting down my controller and picking up my phone to check on the text I never actually received.

I got this game during a sale (it cost like almost 7 Euro) and it was so worth it, I 100% the game even. The game in general is very adorable, its a little game about a mouse helping people and electric beings called Kibblins. The map is a good size and exploring is encouraged through the Blue Lightbulb collectables which earn you small rewards in the shop (like a Lightbulb finder, Camera mode, ect.) It´s fun to figure out how to get to certain ones but never frustrating

The game can be finished in just around 5 hours or (probably) less, so it´s a great game for people who want a short, cozy game for the day

Had fun exploring throughout the charming story.

The platforming elements were faily easy to do. I used mouse & keyboard with the mouse sensitity turned down for better control.

What a charming little platformer exploration game. I've had it in my library for a while cause of an old bundle sale, but with my brain consumed with thoughts of Mewgenics I haven't been in the mood for my usual long games, so today was finally the night to give it a shot.

And I'm glad I did! A nice quick 5-6 hour game, that I 100%'d in my first playthrough, and was never particualrly "hard." But made up for it in a lot of charm, a fun system of exploration, being a no jumping platformer which I always think is fun, and really charming npc's.

I don't want to go too much into it cause its such a short game that I think anyone could play and enjoy, but the ending went for some swings I wasn't expecting at all and I think lived up to it. Just a lovely time.

A cozy, simple 3D platformer about a mouse that [strike]becomes Pikachu[/strike] gains electric powers from an envoy of God and helps people around a little french town.

Your job is to find little energy spirits called Kibblins and help them with some easy tasks so that they'll go back to their box and help the human in need.

Moving around is pretty simple, since you can only climb small ledges, shock things around and climb on specific spots. There are also lightbulbs scattered around the 4 areas of the game to collect that unlock in-game maps, a couple abilities and a photo mode.

It's short, sweet and easy. Probably too simple for seasoned players, but good for little kids.

If this game was a woman, I'd marry her.

No seriously it's great. I actually had like 10-15 freezes which lead to crashes out of nowhere, but the game saves very often, so I lost about no playtime.

The story getting told by the game, the soundtrack and the ambience is just superb. And the controls are really amazing too! Beside being very short and quite easy, I had a blast playing it!

I can only recommend this masterpiece!

Very nice, warmhearted 3D platformer. This is not my kind of genre and I am terrible at 2D / 3D precision platforming. Luckily that is NOT required in this game. It is more about exploration and finding routes. The platforming is very casual and there is no combat. None of the achievements are missable, and I did not run into any bugs (never fell through the floor, for example). This game has a lot of charm and the story and the kiblins managed to draw me in over time. Why over time? See below for the cons.

Three big cons hit right at the start of the game. It seems to make no sense that a mouse would want to help humans, you get missions from a very unpleasant NPC, and the graphics are outdated (textures could be higher resolution and everything could use a lot more polygons for more details and fewer straight lines). I just ignored the first one with a "that's the typical bad game story writing", but read this next bit if you want a light spoiler [spoiler]it is explained in the final scene of the game, and that explanation makes good sense[/spoiler]. And the latter two nit-picks felt less and less important as I progressed through the game, met the other silly NPCs and got used to the servicable if simple graphics. Another nit-pick might be the kiblin box dialogues. Which are all identical. You could claim it makes sense because they are machines but it just felt like severely limited development resources.

"The Spirit and the Mouse" is a handheld (Nintendo Switch)/console game that's also been put on Steam as a bit of an afterthought, as it's very much designed for the handheld/console gaming audience. This is published by the unethical "Armor Games" group, infamous for trying to scam PC gamers into paying cash money for free Adobe Flash games.

This is a game designed for families and children, a simple Nintendo Switch platformer that relies on charm over any gameplay substance. You control a mouse called Lila in a French village at night, and aided by an electrical spirit, you run around and do simple platforming tasks to help out the residents of a small town. The game oozes with charm and this isn't a bad thing at all, in fact if charm was the only criteria to judge a game by, I'd give this an instant thumbs up.

This is let down by the almost brain dead simplicity of the game, requiring you to repeat the same simple platformer tasks again and again to step along the story. This gets unengaging very quickly, and it simply isn't very much fun to play after a few minutes.

One important note is that even though this is an amateur project, it does seem to be sincerely and genuinely made. I couldn't find any flipped assets, plagiarism or any other kind of insincere actions from the developer, but unfortunately genuine intentions alone are not enough to produce a brilliant PC gaming experience.

This also gets a "maybe" on technical delivery... it looks a little okay and the developer made sure the PC port of this Nintendo Switch game was ported well enough, with customisable controls and resolution.

Because this is designed for handheld/portable gaming appliances, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the low power handheld gaming appliances that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate compromises and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was a second thought for the mobile game developers.

In this case, specifically the graphics are a bit primitive and low poly compared to what we expect from a game from 2024, and that is a direct limitation from the choice for this to be a Nintendo Switch game instead of a PC game.

The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for low power handhelds forces upon a game. While this might run well on a Steam Deck, we must remember the vast majority of gamers here are gaming on PC.

These technical shortcomings push this game below minimum standards for any competently developed modern PC game.

So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 140,000+ games on Steam?

"The Spirit and the Mouse" has the far too high price of $20 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games.

Unfortunately Steam reviewers aren't presented with a "Maybe" option... if they did, that's what I'd choose. This isn't a completely bad game, but it's also not one of the best. Unfortunately, a million reviews that all say "maybe" don't do anything to inform a buyers choice. The price tag on this can get you games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and some of the other greatest of all time games, so this is definitely overpriced and under-delivering.

There are over 140,000 games on Steam, not every one of them is a hidden gem. I'm here to try help gamers find the ones that actually matter in that sea of Steam Direct self published mess. If you don't agree with my findings in this review, you should definitely buy it, download it, and play it to see for yourself. I'm happy to have helped you make an informed choice, regardless of the outcome.

Definitely not graphically impressive but it's very cute. The characters are adorable, especially the kiblins, and the ending is sweet. I liked the setting of a small, quaint French village and found it very charming. The music fit well to the setting, though it could be repetitive since it was pretty much the same music the whole time and more or less just fades into the background. The entire game is doing tasks for others and is mostly various mini-games, some are fun, others are kind of annoying, and there is some backtracking. Didn't rock my world but it's a sweet game and quite short. I didn't encounter any bugs or issues with the game either. If you like cute characters and doing nice little things for others, it might be for you.

The Spirit and the Mouse is a cute and cozy game that often requires little thought to complete its puzzles. Each puzzle is different and unique, so you never play the same one twice—this keeps the experience feeling fresh. I definitely had some favorites I wouldn’t have minded seeing more of, but that’s what replaying a game is for!

I adore the way 'The Spirit and The Mouse' has stylised the human NPCs - the way they move and interact is expressively animated, giving them a lively feel. The game also makes brilliant use of sound: instead of full voice acting, characters express themselves through little noises - grunts, sighs, chuckles all paired with text overlay. It’s a small touch, but it flows so perfectly with the music.

The story has a bittersweet edge that can be surprisingly emotional. It really makes you care about the characters, and the ending hits in a way that’s both touching and unforgettable- without giving anything away.

Overall, it's the perfect game to play when you are looking for a distraction, looking to pass the time, and maybe aren't in the best mindset to be pressured with complex puzzles or scenarios - But if you're looking for a feel good wholesome story, this game is for you.

A really cute, short and sweet game. Big Amélie Poulain vibes, with the obviously Ratatouille-like "Rodents x France" slant. I found myself thinking a lot about Untitled Goose Game while playing it, mostly because both games play like a love letter to small towns of their countries. In UGG, the footpath signs, the stiles, and the pub gardens of England. In Spirit and the Mouse, the flickering "Pharmacie" signs, the Petit Futé and Guide du Routard awards on hotel windows, and the yellow post boxes of France. All these little touches that you don't realise are part of the fabric of your life in a place, until you move away from there and rediscover them in games like these. A very lovely feeling all in all!

[i] The Spirit and the Mouse [/i] had been on my wishlist for quite a while but for some reason that I cannot explain, it took me until December 2025 to finally take the plunge and purchase it...and what a decision it was.

On its face, TS&TM plays to me like the old platformers of the PS1 era. The premise is simple, you play as Lila and use the powers that she receives to help bring joy to the humans of Sainte-et-Claire. There is no combat here; it's all about running, climbing, searching and squeaking to find collectibles and bring back some joy to the quiet little French town. It's a cozy game in every sense of the word—from the relaxing, stereotypically French music to the wholesome (and humorous) interactions with the humans and kibblins of Sainte-et-Claire—and just based on this, I would recommend Alblune's charming little gem. The ENDING, though...I do not know if it was simply a case of "playing the right game at the right time" but I did NOT expect to be so profoundly affected by it; I openly and unabashedly sobbed. It was such an overwhelmingly beautiful conclusion to a game that I thought was just going to be a few hours of cute fun, and when the credits finished rolling and Lila once again appeared on my menu screen, I found that I've grown to love and admire that little mouse with her big, beautiful heart.

I’m only a few hours into Spirit and the Mouse, but I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s very much at your own pace, which I love. It feels cozy and mindful without being boring or brainless. It’s the kind of game you can play to relax, but you still feel engaged.

The puzzles and riddles actually make you think, but not in a frustrating way. They’re satisfying to solve and don’t feel repetitive. I like that the game trusts you to figure things out instead of constantly holding your hand.

I also really enjoy that it has an open-world feel. You can wander around, explore, and just exist in the space, which adds a lot to the cozy vibe. Overall, it feels calm, thoughtful, and comforting so far, and I’m excited to keep playing and see where it goes.

Absolutely adorable cozy game. I enjoyed the little town vibe, the aesthetic was very on point. The characters were interesting and fun, made me feel invested in the story. The story is a tear jerker for sure, especially the ending, such a goodie!
If anything to whine about- there will be a lot of climbing up and sometimes I need to observe before hand, where I will be going and how to get there and the only enemy in this game is the camera angle. I understand that as a tiny mouse it is hard to look straight at the sky but I just found it a bit frustrating at times.
Otherwise, loved the story, loved playing as the cutest mouse, wonderful experience!

If you want a break from boss fights, jumping chasms and dying when you fall and other life and death situations, this game is a relaxing break with a cute storyline, nice city landscapes to traverse and fun missions for this mouse who is out to "do good" for people in need of electricity. Sounds corny (and it is) but I had fun in every assigned mission. This is a game you can enjoy with a cup of coffee.

鼠鼠可爱，拍照模式好玩且动作非常真实，吱吱叫更是深得我心，还得是老鼠工作室！但是它的玩法实在有点无聊，就是现在类塞尔达游戏中常见的跑图解谜收集，且相比新作鼠织小家来说，收集给到的正反馈太少。还有个致命的缺陷，优化太差，少字也就算了，正常的电脑玩其他3a游戏都没事，玩这个给我一下午干死机三次，现在主界面都进不去了，只好跑来写评价，他要是不坏我还是能坚持玩下去的。

Прекрасная, милая и просто чарующая игра, которая заставит отложить все свои дела и просто наслаждаться атмосферой присущей этой истории. Казалось бы, все время нас водит за нос какой-то черт, но бывает... Главное, что геймплей не устает наскучить и игра не душит - ну совсем (даже достижения с коллекционированием не запарные).

Сюжет небольшой и ненавязчивый, но очень уж хороший, пусть и предсказуемый. Визуал неплохой и саундтреки не отвлекают от общего игрового процесса. Ну это же суперприкольная игра про мышь, что еще нужно-то. [i]P.S особая благодарность за милейший подарочек HTMTONY.[/i]

Spirit and the Mouse is the kind of game that makes me genuinely angry, not because it is offensively bad, but because of how comfortably it hides behind praise it never earns. Despite overwhelmingly positive reviews, the game offers little more than walking around and collecting things, wrapped in a soft aesthetic that seems to disarm criticism before it can even begin.

I strongly reject the tendency to label games like this as casual or children’s games, as if simplicity automatically excuses the absence of meaningful interaction. A casual game is not a game that does nothing; it is a game that does less, but deliberately. Well-designed children’s games are often more mechanically honest and playful than many so-called “cozy” titles aimed at adults. The problem here is not simplicity, but the complete lack of intention.

In Spirit and the Mouse, gamification is reduced to its most thoughtless form: movement without intention, collection without consequence, interaction without friction. There is no system to learn, no mechanic to master, no space for curiosity to turn into play. The player is not invited to engage, only to comply, walk here, pick this up, repeat. Despite this, the game is tagged as a “puzzle platformer,” a description that collapses the moment you realize there are no puzzles to solve and no platforming mechanics to engage with.

Worse still, the game shows little respect for the player’s time or intelligence. There are moments where you are asked to climb to a specific spot just to jump down and collect a bulb, only to discover that another bulb requires the exact same climb and the exact same actions from a slightly different drop point. This is pure redundant traversal: meaningless repetition with no systemic payoff. The second attempt does not deepen understanding, introduce variation, or ask for a different application of mechanics, because the game refuses to acknowledge that the “problem” was already solved the first time. Nothing is tested, nothing is learned, and nothing is earned. Your time is simply consumed under the assumption that endurance equals engagement.

What makes this particularly frustrating is that Spirit and the Mouse clearly wants to be experienced as something warm, charming, and emotionally gentle. But charm cannot substitute for gameplay and atmosphere cannot carry a game that refuses to ask anything of its player. Without mechanics that create tension, discovery, or even simple joy, the experience collapses into a series of empty tasks.

This is not accessibility. This is not minimalism. It is a failure to understand that even the simplest games require intentional design. When a game abandons engagement entirely, it does not become inclusive, it becomes inert.

Astonishing little game!
You'll finish it fairly quickly, but that doesn't remove at all from its beauty - it actually adds to it.
It could've been a really great Pixar movie, but its a game instead.
Great locations, top-notch music, interesting game design and characters and overall - a great experience, even if you very likely won't go back to it once its done.

Very much worth the cash!

Decent but lots of yes/no questions but you are not allowed to progress unless you answer yes for most of them. Especially the last one was annoying, if it is not a question then don't give a choice. It is just annoying.
