3/3 --- It's just so good man. The game excellently expands on the original while still calling back when appropriate. Experiencing the story nonlinearly makes it feel as if you yourself is writing the story because of how you are expected to put the pieces of this world together. The twist of the main story was absolutely mind-boggling and all the DLC answered or expanded the world of The Golden Idol in sensible, creative and understandable directions. This studio deserves your money and these games deserve your time.

This is a fun continuation of the first game. It is a little janky in the mechanics since they're just different enough to be odd, but once you get the hang of it there's smooth sailing. I definitely prefer the first one; this game has some leaps in logic and guesswork that I wasn't able to track at times and simply solved by way of swapping words until it gave me a green. It still has an interesting and believable overarching narrative and I enjoyed myself.

Se passando em mais de 200 anos do jogo original, a trama do Ídolo Dourado continua, misturando civilização antiga, culto de auto ajuda e refrigerante (I?)

As DLCs expandem a história, focando em alguns personagens que aparecem durante o jogo.

Agora esperar pelo terceiro jogo, já que, do jeito que a história terminou, cabe muito bem mais um jogo e quem sabe fechar numa trilogia.

看这款游戏的基本都是一代的玩家，如果你喜欢一代的玩法，那本作尽管买买买。二代算是对一代的系统的全面升级。在现代背景下，更丰富细腻的画面、更丰富多样的谜题、更友好递进的设计、更自由便捷地取词填词等等，都让这一作的魅力更胜一代。
唯一的弱点就是汉化质量明显不如一代（的民汉），官方的繁中的个别翻译会直接导致游戏被迫转成英文小课堂。虽然本体已经有了简中民汉、大部分情况下还不错，但是难免有个别蹩脚的地方。DLC 目前还没有民汉，看重汉化质量的季票可以暂时先不买。

区别于一代的金偶像，这一代的偶像有了另一大类的核心功能。并且这个核心功能玩出了更神奇的花样。
本作用了乱序的方式，让玩家在不同章节从不同的时间线出发、分别窥探故事的一隅。在故事的最后的高潮，将所有暗线串联起来，拼凑出故事的全貌。
这也导致本作故事乍看不像一代那么有条有理，主暗线都没有那么直接。但是相应地，当玩家对照故事时间线，在某一刻回头复盘，令各个细节交汇的那一刻，顿悟的感觉还是非常令人满足的。

汉化问题未来有（官或民）的修补改进再好不过，不过游戏本身玩就对了。

游戏进行到第四章文本就已经混乱到难以阅读的地步了，无法理解为什么一部主要玩法是文字填空的游戏官方汉化会差到这种地步，机翻就机翻你但凡找个人来润色呢，前三章倒还好，第四章开始完全没有人类参与了，语序颠倒甚至无法连成一段话，游戏卖得也不便宜吧，找个汉化组的钱都没有吗，看评论本体翻译都算好的了，我都不敢想dlc会是什么样。完全不如鲁特里，价格相当但是汉化做得很好，大量的信息看下来都很顺畅，你金偶像的文本量有鲁特里的哪怕五分之一吗，其他游戏做得到你们这边为什么做不到，说白了不就是态度问题吗？

+ I like the puzzles (outside of a couple hard to make connections)
+ Art style and music is great
+ Game is oozing with creativity, despite it being the puzzle game in which the main building blocks are language and words the situations presented doesn't allow it to get stale.

- Previous part was slightly more enjoyable
- I liked the big UI approach of the previous part instead of cluttered UI of this one (but, that's for me only)
- Some puzzles are tedious with multiple layers, I appreciate the idea of overaching multiple scenarios, but searching for the information contained within multiple scenario screens is just tedious (also, fact of long loading screens doesn't help, or it is just my PC). The summaries given after each completed scenarios aren't enough. And getting back to the game after a long break requires to go through them once again to gather details. (Maybe that was intentional, I don't know)

This "Yes" recommendation comes after some deliberation and analysis of other users' reviews, because i was really sitting on the fence for there not being a "Meh" score.

This review contains no spoilers:

CONS:

As an immense fan of the "Case of the Golden Idol" , I dove into this one wholeheartedly expecting that same drive with which the first won us over, and thus I was ready to let the first couple of cases be this easy and shallow (on account of new players being introduced to the genre).

I thought that my solutions to the first two cases came so easily thanks to previously beating the "Case", but after five more cases solved without any of the red herrings, intuitive deductions, abstract and multi-tier clues, and connections of the original "Case" but instead with almost on-the-nose pointers and clues akin to spot-the-difference mobile games, the game felt like a letdown.

It is just too easy, and at certain points you no longer feel as if this is the original's "what is happening", but a Poirotesque "whodunnit" with everything already laid out in front of you.

Personally, I didn't like the new interface as it obscures large parts of the screen and developers went console-first with the design for this one.

PROS:

The reason I still recommend the "Rise" is the fact that I realized that in both the other negative reviews and my own, our displeasure came from us being disappointed how this sequel does not live up to the original. That is it.

It is still a game in the method and spirit of the "Case", it's just done with far, far less ingeniousness, creativity, love, and has both incomparably weaker story and plot. It is not a waste of time for a newcomer who doesn't know what he/she is missing out on both the "Case" and its expansions.

All in all:
If you are new to the genre, play the first "Case" and buy the DLCs on discount (as they are really too short to justify their base store price). If not, buy this game only if you have the Golden Idol itch while we hope a possible future third release will be better.

本作在一些地方比前作稍人性化一点，比如收集词条的时候只要点开对应图像就能自动收集，不用去一个一个找了，美术风格见仁见智，个人更喜欢前作的那种美术风格。要批评的是汉化，纯纯机翻，不打民汉补丁完全玩不下去。
本体的故事比前作在通关难度上要稍微低一点，可能是因为把背景放到了现代，有一些内容更好理解，第一部有的地方我真的毫无头绪，只能穷举法，这一部倒是没有特别卡关的地方，有的故事我一次就能全部填对。至于在故事性上，和前作一样草蛇灰线，打完第五章回头再看之前打过的几章，是真的能把逻辑链补全的，但是仍然有一些内容没有填坑，目前DLC汉化还没出，只评价本体内容吧。

I would give this game a "maybe," but if I have to choose between recommending it to people or not, I'd lean mostly towards not doing so.

The art style is cool, similar to the first game but a bit different. I personally prefer the style of the first one. The music is also nice.

Now, about the gameplay: I admit it can be fun, but as a logical puzzle game, it's much worse than the first game and made me feel quite frustrated here and there, and a lot towards the end. At some point, I just wanted the story to end so I could move on to other things.

The mechanics are basically the same as the first game, but with a larger scope.

There are two main issues for me:

1. You're investigating scenes, trying to understand what's going on. A lot of times I found myself understanding everything but still not managing to complete the puzzle. The reason being either semantics or "philosophical" opinions that the game wants you to take as facts. An example could be: what is a person? The game expects you to know the answer, or rather, to know the answer based on what the game wants it to be, if that makes any sense.

Regarding this point, there's also quite a bit of artificial lengthening of sentences to make the game harder. There are sentences written in weird ways just to make the player fill in more words, but the sentences could have been much more straightforward if spoken in a simpler way, and would make more sense based on the investigation.

2. The story, connections between chapters, and conclusion are quite messy and not really memorable or satisfying. I played the first game a long time ago and I still have scenes, characters, and events stuck in my head. I've already forgotten many things about the sequel instead.

All that said, I think this is one of those cases (pun intended) in which a game didn't need a sequel.

Буду сравнивать с первой частью, т.к. она очень понравилась. По сравнению с первой частью тут хуже:
- Визуальный стиль.
- Сеттинг.
- Задания. В плане тяжело понять что по тексту нужно заполнить, много смыслов из-за возможности заполнить синонимами.
- Персонажи.
В целом игра стала больше, больше заданий. По сюжету это и приквел и сиквел. За фулл прайс все же не рекомендую но по скидке взять точно стоит.

Loved the first game, and I love the second one even more. There are still some issues with some 'math' puzzles in here (like the first game) and a few scattered clues (torn book pages), but these are few and far between. Most times you can do a process of elimination to get the answer you need (2 or few answers are wrong). Good way to pay attention to cues and be sure to take your time. New to Rise of the Golden Idol are an updated, streamlined interface, a new artstyle and a groovy 1970s vibe. A great companion piece to the original and a marvelous sequel in it's own right. Give me part 3 already ! lol

I almost didn't play this game.
I only mildly enjoyed the first game, and was hesitant to play this one afterwards, but since I bought them in a bundle together I figured I might as well, so that it wasn't a waste of money. I'm so glad I did. This has become one of my all-time favorite games, and pieces of art in general. From the art style, to the presentation, to the music and atmosphere and characters, this game is an absolute masterpiece in mystery. If you have any interest in mysteries, I cannot encourage you to play this game enough, especially blind. It has a perfect balance of difficulty and satisfying puzzles, and of more serious moments and goofy, light-hearted moments. This game hasn't left my mind since I started playing it, and I can't wait to see what Color Gray studios comes out with next so I can be just as enthralled with it.

의미는 똑같은 문장이 단어 순서나 표현이 다르다는 이유로 오답 처리 돼버리는 게 썩 긍정적인 경험은 아니었다.

so far, a great sequel to a fantastic original game. Since this builds off themes presented in the first game, I strongly recommend playing that one first. Otherwise, both games deliver a unique mystery experience in which the player is a removed observer who does not effect change. It's cool to see a story play out without things ending prematurely due to solving the nature of each crime. I also love that this game forces you to observe EVERYTHING, not just what's clickable, to make inferences. Solving each mystery like this feels so satisfying.

游戏本体通关，评分10/10！剧情很妙（恶人深谋远虑不如蠢人灵机一动这一块）！依旧黑色幽默！人物形象更加饱满（这一点是奥博拉丁号的短板）画面和动画相对前作更优秀。叙事相比前作增加每章的大谜题，串联主线剧情，这很好。尤其让我觉得惊喜的是对古代雷姆利亚文明形态和科技的完整描述。
不足之处十分主观：我认为这一作在叙事手法和角色诡计方面优于前作，但是剧情没有前作那么炸裂，没有人均大气层互相设局遍地阴谋算计Murder强度拉满，没有让我填错答案后突然灵机一动想出答案被真相惊艳到直呼“卧槽”。还有鸟笼那关有点无聊，谜题内容信息密度太低，很空洞————而我享受破解关键点后巨量信息涌入脑海那一瞬的感觉。
好了，本体告一段落，总体是惊喜的，体验完DLC再回来把评测写完

Recommended, but I think Case of the Golden Idol had a better story and puzzles. There is more to investigate in this game, but not all the scenes felt equal or as important as each other in terms of the story, with some being very straightforward and lacking in intrigue (beyond the first few which I'd expect to be like that to teach you how the game works). I didn't feel that the complexity of the cases increased as much as the first game's did towards the end, and I didn't feel like the ending to this one was as satisfying as the first game's. I still liked the game system and I enjoyed working out what was going on. I think it's worth playing if you liked Case of the Golden Idol and want more of that style of gameplay, but if you haven't played either I would say to play Case first.

I wish I could give this game a "Yes, But" rating, but I'm going to err on the side of "No" because the interface is so much more frustrating than the first game. After finishing the first chapter I was already very tired of having two categories of windows that close under different sets of circumstances (open/close individual case windows with a toggle button, or hide/reveal them all at once with the spacebar; the investigation windows operate like they did in the original game), and felt reluctant to continue dealing with them in the second chapter. I understand that
the spacebar as an input is very similar to the "Thinking" toggle in the first game, but it never quite becomes intuitive in the same way, probably because the movable windows in this game's Thinking section don't feel mechanically distinct from the investigation windows. I found myself in an endlessly-repeating loop of trying to click out of the Thinking windows, sighing, and then pressing spacebar. This friction compounds over the top of investigation interfaces that feel less clean and communicative than the original's, despite the original's much more primitive graphics and interface. I feel like this game is proof that sometimes less is more, and that's a real bummer to have to say about the sequel to a game I really enjoyed.

This review contains no spoilers! I'm giving this game a no, but understand it's a 51% negative, 49% positive. I agonised quite a while over whether to give a Yes because the game IS good, or a No because it's disappointing.

In short: Play The Case of the Golden Idol.

No really, I don't have anything more to add to that. Play Case and if you loved it so much that you'd want to play a less satisfying version of it that suffers from increased scope, look at Rise again.

Gameplay considerations:

The UI sees some improvements, but with the *ability* to move windows around and lay them on top of each other, comes a *need*. Seriously, the windows in this game are so huge and you always need to reference at least two windows plus the scene graphics, you'll play more like your fifty-year old manager who has never heard of closing a browser tab.

Drag&drop is more intuitive than Case's click field -> click word controls, and you can toggle Magnet Mouse so that a word will stick to your mouse until you click again. That's lovely accessibility. It's just that the word disappears if you click outside of a recipient field. Combined with the constant window moving, you'll have to move things into place for every single word.

I'd say Case's puzzles scaled from 5/10 up to 8/10 difficulty, and the game had one single detail that required a logical leap / process of elimination to get right. In contrast... oh boy. The hardest puzzles in this game get *maybe* to the level of the easier ones in Case.

Most of the time, 90% or more of the details are a trivial match of finding a bag with smokes, purple lipstick, and a gun in it, emblazoned Shooty Smokeface, then matching that name to the face of a purple-lipped lady talking about how much she loves smoking and shooting things. Okay not exactly, but most puzzles are quite trivial once you find the dedicated clue.

This poses a bit of a problem when the appeal of Case for me was precisely that you *had to* form and falsify hypotheses and reconstruct events, *not* just put clues into the clue-shaped holes. Likewise, most details have multiple clues for them. This feels like it should be positive, but it just makes them too simple.

My BIG ISSUE: Case had a problem that some puzzles read like the recently released Files; "NAME NAME VERB NAME NAME in the NOUN from behind unexpectedly using a ADJECTIVE NOUN". Rise expanded on this by making it MOST puzzles, and also replacing "in", "from", and "using" with blanks. More often than not, I could have given a second-by-second replay of the event in question, but struggled to simply guess what was being asked of me. I'm not joking about the word "from" by the way. Multiple times you have to fill in "from" or "to" with only these two options, where pre-setting those words would not change anything about the puzzle.

The game also suffers from its increased visual resolution, I feel. Interaction spots are highlighted with an animated, but tiny exclamation point that has no outline. It is far too easy to miss.

The game presents you with 3-4 scenarios in each chapter. After you've solved all of them, it will also give you meta-puzzles to put the chapter's events together. Actually, it gives you the meta-puzzles immediately, it's just impossible to solve them before you've seen everything. Literally impossible, the very UI is only revealed in parts after each scenario. This exemplifies a feeling that it's pointless to think instead of waiting for the game to spell things out for you that also pervades into the individual scenario's puzzles.

The story (again, no spoilers!):

Above, I advise playing Case instead because it's a better game. The problem is, this game's story is a kind-of-but-not-really sequel to Case's. If you know what happens in Case, the first half's puzzles will be unduly easy due to your background knowledge.

Rise doesn't really retcon Case, but at the same time there's a lot of stuff Rise establishes which should have come up in Case. In fact, Case would have gone very differently if the canon had already been in Rise's extended version.

I'd summarise it as this: Case was an interesting, satisfying, and CONCLUDED story. Rise tells another story using the conceits of Case. It's just not as good and was not necessary to wrap anything up. I can't really say anything other than that Case engaged me so much, I reconstructed the entire story, hidden implications and all, before the game spelled it out. In Rise, I was so disengaged I just didn't care to. Telling the story completely syncopated didn't help.

Art:

The art is improved. No notes. Case struggled with inconsistent style, Rise is much better about this with a generally higher resolution, though the image warping animations are sometimes a bit silly.

In conclusion: I can't say it wasn't engaging. The game did give me 9 hours of puzzles, though at a hefty price for that much gameplay. I enjoyed it and turned off the second screen videos while playing, I'm just sad I could have enjoyed it much more.

Oh also, one more thing! The game gets the calendar wrong! It claims the 20th of August 1974 was a new moon on a Monday night. In fact, the 20th was a Tuesday, and the new moon happened three days earlier on the 17th of August 1974. Literally unplayable. What, am I supposed to believe this is some kind of world where ancient civilisations had magical technology and the days of the week are one day behind?

A very worthy successor to the excellent The Case of the Golden Idol which sees the mystery bleed over into the modern age. The painted graphics feel like a natural evolution of the pixel artwork from the first game, but maintain the eccentricity that gives the game's world so much of its character. Gameplay-wise, The Rise of the Golden Idol is very much more of the same (with some nice quality of life and design improvements), but that's far from a bad thing. Another satisfying and memorable adventure which organically unfolds as you put the pieces together.

Great sequel to a great point and click puzzle game. I really liked the way the story was presented mostly out of order. It had me going back to check previous chapters (especially in the final part) in a way I hadn't before. I recommend taking notes! I went old school with a pen and paper notebook. It helped me keep my thoughts in order in the more complicated/challenging puzzles and was useful in future puzzles.

И кажется, он снова попал кому-то в лапы: в городе стали появляться тела людей с покрасневшими глазами. Полиция начинает расследование, и оказывается, дело гораздо масштабнее, чем кажется на первый взгляд.

Геймплей: самая главная фишка и прелесть серии. Похоже на Обра Динн, но лучше. Игра состоит из нескольких глав-сценариев, в каждой главе мы осматриваем место преступления, застывшее в одном мгновении. Можем послушать последние реплики людей, прозвучавшие до этого мгновения, пошарить по их карманам, осмотреть укромные углы. Во время осмотра в наш блокнот автоматически собираются слова: прозвучавшие имена, названия предметов, некоторые глаголы. Задача - заполнить словами текст с описанием произошедшего и сопутствующие документы, например, нужно составить список действующих лиц, сопоставить портреты с именами. Это сложнее, чем может показаться, ведь в блокнот собирается и не имеющая отношения к делу информация, а по одному мгновению бывает непросто понять, что вообще произошло. В начале многое очевидно, но чем ближе к фигалу, тем больше будет трудностей, а изначальный шаблон текста, который надо дополнить, состоит из одних пропусков и предлогов.

Оформление: необычный рисованый стиль игры, лица персонажей - карикатурные, мне это чем-то напоминает стиль художника Мартынова, который иллюстрировал книги Григория Остера. Иногда этот стиль усложняет геймплей, трудно распознать нарисованное, но по сравнению с первой частью серии, в которой был пиксель-арт, вторая гораздо лучше. Здесь уже рисунок практически не мешает, а сам по себе он очень классный. Приятно смотреть, и игра визуально сразу узнаваема.

Общие впечатления: как же я обожаю серию Голден Айдол! Это ОФИГЕННО интересно - распутывать детективные дела, основываясь только на том, что видишь и слышишь, реально чувствуешь себя детективом. Сложность высокая, но тем сильнее чувство удовлетворения, когда наконец-то разобрался и раскусил загадку. И подкупает, что разработчики продумали целую вселенную. В двух играх мы немало узнали уже и о богатой истории Лемурии и соседних с ней государств, и о географии этого мира. Были разные времена от невероятного технологического прогресса до деградации и упадка, был период диктатуры, как в антиутопиях, и все это постепенно проявляется по мере прохождения двух игр. В этой части еще потрясающие DLC, ничуть не хуже основной серии. Надеюсь, разработчики продолжат серию, может быть, уже не привязываясь конкретно к идолу - там и без него уже тонна материала с потенциалом.

In my opinion this is a step down from Case. I still enjoyed it, but that game just had such an amazing mindblowing twist and the tone was unmatched. This game does get a little creepy at points, but it never quite reaches the heights of the previous game. The artstyle is also a step down. The cases are good for the most part, but they too are missing a bit of the magic of case. In that game, your "Aha" moment was usually when you figured out what actually happened. In this game, the aha moment is just figuring out the solution to the puzzles.

Still gets a recommend, but not nearly as much as the previous game.

They did it again. Just as good if not better than the first game.
I liked the story (or perhaps more correctly, the storytelling) and prefered the UI of this one.
It feels amazing to be able to say you understand a scene, only to use it as a piece of a larger story you didn't even know was there.
The DLCs are also great, even if a bit harder to deduce. I still did manage without using any clues, but there was some more guessing than I would've prefered. Still a fantastic experience, everything made sense in the end.

相比于第一代的长逻辑链，第二代用了时间叙诡把不同时间段发生的事情放在同一章里。个人觉得推理难度比一代要稍微好一些，也更有趣一些（可以抓的线头很多），给的信息可能很多，但也不至于多到迷糊。特别是有了本地汉化之后玩起来更加舒服（感谢汉化为爱发电！）

I think I prefer the setting of the first a little more, but this one also has good stories, especially in the DLC. This one has a lot more content and quality of life features. They knocked it out of the park once again, and especially the DLC's (which are WELL worth the money) were incredibly good. There are quite a few games that have tried to emulate what Golden Idol has done since the first game, but none quite succeed in achieving this feeling of the game being quite difficult, but still manageable without any hints whatsoever.

真的非常喜欢这系列作品，第二部每一关都和第一部dlc差不多的信息量，难度比第一部正篇关卡大幅提升，直接从小杯升级到超大杯。不仅谜题质量没有下降，而且还和前作世界观统一，更加丰富了剧情，交代了很多人物、物品的历史背景。个人认为在我玩过的推理作品里至少排前三。玩本作的时候我用的官方翻译，官方翻译有很多很差的地方，但是对我来说瑕不掩瑜，总体上没怎么影响解谜，而且我认为翻译的问题不是游戏本身的问题。还是非常推荐喜欢推理的来玩！！！！
[spoiler]本篇的剧情是一个非常严谨的闭环，最后一章解答了序章的杀人案和第一章见到的尸体的谜团，很喜欢这种结构。
dlc里剧情上我最喜欢dlc1，非常喜欢罗伊警官，只有罗伊警官自己一个人意识到了一切，为了保护他人不惜牺牲了自己，最后罗伊警官和变成艾柯塞孔达的奥瑞教授“同归于尽”时我真的快感动哭了。其他几个dlc个人认为谜题大于剧情，还有就是不得不感叹金偶像世界观里任何时代都不乏“狂人”，dlc2和3最后解出幕后黑手的动机的时候还是很震撼的。全部打完花了三十个小时，每一关都要记好多信息，而且多关之间还有关联，推理其实还是有点累的，但非常强烈地感觉到这个游戏一口气玩下来记得所有剧情，一定比断断续续记不清的体验好，事实果然如此，连第三个dlc都和本篇剧情有联系。第四个dlc没看出和本篇除了雷姆利亚设定以外有什么关联，愿花没有在本篇中出现。 [/spoiler]

Another great puzzle game, but I wouldn't say it's as good as the first one.
Case of the Golden Idol had more charm to it. I enjoyed the mystery, the pixelated art style, the setting, the characters more in that game.
Rise of the Golden idol isn't bad by any means, but it did feel a little more of a drag to get through. I did play these two games back to back so maybe my brain was just getting worn out. The story was also not as interesting and puzzles were a little less memorable. However, I feel like if you played the first game and enjoyed it, it's impossible to not continue into Rise.

It's a great game no doubt, but some of the sauce has been lost in this sequel.

Is it as good as the first game?

The art is different, and the UI is somewhat clunkier (to make brute forcing harder?)
The music isn't that good.
The cases are a bit funkier. Less classic murder mystery and more weird stuff.
The story is hard to judge, but I would say it's on par.

In the end, some of the cases are better, some are worse, and if you wanted more cases of golden idol, you got it.

That's what I wanted, so this is an easy recommendation from me.

Highly enjoyable with a good, logical, solution to each scenario requiring you to not just take things at face value to solve them. The 'what does the dance mean' scenario is a highlight requiring you to review the footage. The characters are fun and there is a nice selection of locations as part of the narrative. The music is also nice without being distracting.

However, you can only get 54% of the achievements with the base game. The rest are locked as part of the DLC.
