아이템들이 전부 랜덤으로 나오는데 불친절한 세이브포인트랑 합쳐지니 진짜 난이도가 확 올라감
대신 세이브하고나서 그이후부터는 게임이 쉬워짐
어찌저찌 엔딩을 봤지만 앞서 말한 부분때문에 다소 아쉬운 게임이라 생각함
그래도 구매 당시 220원인가 그랬는데 220원이면 괜찮은듯

In many aspects this game stands against the gameplay design standards that make the playthrough enjoyable for the player. It is beatable and quite easy to max out, but overall it is just not worth it in my opinion. The gameplay is around 30-minutes long if you continously sprint (which you should as it is the easiest way to avoid frustration on constant encounters with the ghost) and all this time is just mindless running without ever knowing what to do. Nothing is indicated in the UI in even as simple way as task description "find object X".
Even after 10 years the game sucks out the processor really hard.
It was not the worst time I had in walking sim horrors, but if you're looking for a decent one, it's not this one. Check out Slender: The Arrival instead.

-Game saves are easily corrupted. One game I returned to had an item that I had already collected appeared on the floor. When trying to pick up this item for a second time, it would display a message telling me that I can not collect an item already in my inventory. (Had to restart.) In another game the save plunged me into darkness, where I was unable to move and left to restart the play-through.
-Pressing a key may result in nothing. (Seriously) Trying to switch between item in your bag can take up to 12 button presses before anything happens. Imagine pressing space to jump and the character does nothing. Repeat and the character might jump, after 10 attempts. Maybe~
-Listening to advice from you journal does not help. It will advise you to hide, but the monster does not leave. [u] [i] The Hatman [/i] will wait outside the door for you. [/u] Turning off the flashlight does not make a difference.
-Playing the father or mother character offers little change. They offer different voices for each of the parents, but if you die as the father. You still get the mothers death scream.

Hm, schwierig dieses Spiel zu beschreiben.
Zuerst:
Es hat keine Einstellung für die Lautstärke des Tons oder der Musik.
Die Sprecher und die Effekte sind als "Grundeinstellung" ausgeschaltet.
Dann das Gameplay. Man stirbt schnell, bekommt wenig erklärt und es wird sehr schnell, sehr mühsam, dem "The Hat Man" zu entkommen. Zusätzlich muss man Tagebuch-Seiten zusammen suchen in einem scheinbar endlosen Labyrinth und dabei non stop rennen, weil der Typ einen nicht in Ruhe lässt. Ich habe es nicht lange gespielt, aber die Erfahrung hat gereicht.

Meus caros jogadores, este é aquele tipo de jogo passa tempo onde tu entra sem muita pretenção, apenas pela diversão de ser um jogo simples de correr de um bicho. Mas os problemas desse jogo estão justamente na execução horrível dessas que acabei de citar. A movimentação do jogo não é nada fluída, travada, lenta, eu passei uma penca de perrengues porque o jogo possui um point de clicar das portas HORRÌVEL, o bicho possui um script de raio visão onde se você estiver correndo no corredor e ele ti ver, ele te persegue, até aí normal, o problema é quando você percebe que ele simplesmente para de te perseguir quando você entra em qualquer sala ou vira o corredor, se você agachar (com a lanterna desligada) e chegar perto, tu vai ver que ele fica lá parado que nem um abestado fazendo cosplay de estátua, esperando você caminhar de novo. E mermão, isso é horrível pois em determinado momento você vai se deparar com um corredor com um buraco (não pule, o boneco simplesmente não responde ao comando pular e não tente fazer o famoso flick (correr e pular, não funciona) pois você morrerá igual) e se o monstro estiver atrás de você, pode reiniciar a run pois ele não vai sair do corredor mesmo se você tiver ali escondido já que, como eu disse, ele tem esse script de visão, o que atrapalha muito a gameplay. Tu entra pra se divertir e sai estressado. Pra mim, foi uma experiência ruim e desgastante, além da lore do jogo ser tão fraca e genérica, que tu simplesmente esquece dela em gameplay. Dito isso, não joguem se não querem perder tempo (e dinheiro).
This game is by far one of the worst I have ever wasted any time on, The graphic settings are so basic, it had really bad tearing issues, then changing my control settings, it kept unassigning my buttons so it was really annoying, then wow trying to use the inventory was just so ridiculous, it would not allow me to equip the axe to even get through the first segment, the ghost thing is just really poor quality, this game was clearly hashed together.
Schrott. Man landet in einer Welt, wo man nicht weiß, was zu tun ist. Sammelt irgendwelches Zeug ein, auf einmal wird man von einem Geist verfolgt, der einen umbringt. Ich verstehe nicht, was ich tun muss. Ein kurzes Tutorial wäre vielleicht nicht schlecht gewesen.
Außerdem funktionieren die Tasten irgendwie nicht richtig. An einer Tür steht "Click to open". Ich klicke, nichts passiert. Auch die Umschaltung des Inventars über die Nummerntasten funktioniert nur nach mehrfachem drücken der Tasten.

The Hat Man is a basic Slender clone. You just run through a maze of five or six repeating rooms, while looking for journal entries and avoiding a slow and cartoony shadow man that creeps after you. Visuals are pretty bad, especially in the beginning before all the shadow filters are applied. There are no settings, not even a volume slider. And the worst part is it is not even scary. This is definitely not worth $10. Only recommended if you can get it for under 20 cents and only for connoisseurs of impossible spaces.

恐怖演出に関してはまぁ五月蠅いだけ。音でビビらせるのをホラーって思ってそうな演出ばっかり。
天井の照明がいきなり落ちてくる演出を何度も見たり、効果音がやたらなってて紙を見つけるうえで煩わしい部分が多い。
ゲーム部分は紙拾って、キーアイテムで道を開いてくタイプだが、道がその都度生成されるのとハットマンはプレイヤーの後ろに必ず現れるし、壁抜けもするので力量で回避できないことは多々ある。
ランダム生成バグなのか特定の部屋が出現しなくて積んだりした点を考慮してもあんまりお勧めできない。
トライ＆デスで少しずつやっていくものだが、そのカタルシスを他のホラーゲーならもっと充実して得られることを考えると他のゲームを探した方がいいという結論に至った。

Got this for a few cents in a bundle some years ago. This is your default, classic, cookie-cutter, vanilla style indie horror game with everything needed in it including the bugs everyone loves about indie horror!
It is not very scary but makes a fun challenge to kill some time or get back into horror games (especially the nostalgic indie ones). I like that the achievements, although a bit buggy, are actually all achievable (as of version 1.33).
Get this on sale if you are bug-resistant.

Ich Habe mir das Spiel vor Jahren mit meinem Rest Guthaben für 39c gekauft und gegen einen damaligen Freund gespielt, mit der Herausforderung:wer es zu erst Durchspielt.
Da ich ab und zu wieder kurze Indie-Horrorspiele durchschaue und Teste, dachte ich mir, ich guck mir mal den ersten Müllspielkauf an, welchen ich mir damals von CS-GO Skin- und Kistenverkäufe finanziert habe.
Ich muss sagen: Puh... Ohne dieses Duell gegen einen Freund haben wir hier ein Copypaste Horrorspiel ohne Atmosphäre, mit keinem wirklichen Grusel oder Alleinstellungsmerkmal. Die Herausforderung: Nicht das Spiel zu schließen weil man vieles neu machen muss weil man durch Bugs, fehlerhafte Eingabeannahme oder aus sonst einem Grund stirbt. Es spielt sich wie jedes andere Horrorspiel aus der Zeit, als Slender bekannt war und versucht haben, das Prinzip zu kopieren. Ich weiß definitiv, wieso das Spiel so oft von über 8€ auf 0.39c reduziert wird. Für den Originalpreis, sollte sich das niemand kaufen.

Listen up, folks, I'm here to tell you about one of the worst games I have ever had the misfortune of playing: The Hat Man: Shadow Ward. Let me just start by saying that this game is a complete waste of time and money. If you're thinking of playing it, I strongly advise against it.
So, the game starts off with a pretty standard horror trope: your daughter has been assigned to an asylum after attempting suicide, and she's gone missing. As her loving parent, it's up to you to find her. Sounds like it could be interesting, right? Wrong.
First of all, you get to choose whether you play as the father or the mother, but it doesn't make any difference to the game other than the voices. So, what's the point? It just feels like a cheap gimmick to make it seem like the game has more depth than it actually does.
And then there's the gameplay. It's nothing more than another Slender clone. You walk around through identical, repetitive rooms, trying to find notes from your daughter while the Hat Man chases you. But here's the thing: the Hat Man is not even remotely scary. He's slow, he's not a real danger, and you can easily walk past him and collect the notes. There's no sense of urgency or real fear.
The graphics are terrible, too. The whole game looks like it was made by a high school student with a basic understanding of Unity. And don't even get me started on the voice acting. It's laughably bad. I've heard better voice acting in free mobile games.
The sound is okay, I'll give them that. But it's not enough to salvage the rest of the game. The atmosphere is non-existent, and there's no real sense of dread or unease. You just walk through identical rooms, collecting notes and avoiding a slow-moving, un-scary villain.
To finish the game, it takes around 30 minutes. And let me tell you, that's 30 minutes of your life you'll never get back. The Hat Man: Shadow Ward is not worth the $9.99 they're charging for it (and it used to be $14.99? What a joke). I feel sorry for anyone who has wasted their time and money on this garbage.
The Hat Man: Shadow Ward is a complete disaster. The gameplay is boring and unoriginal, the graphics are terrible, the voice acting is laughably bad, and there's no atmosphere or sense of dread. Do yourself a favor and avoid this game at all costs. The developers should be ashamed of themselves for releasing such a terrible product.

Незаслуженно заминусованный хоррор, который изначально может немного оттолкнуть своей архаичностью, но при более детальном рассмотрении оказывается весьма хорошим игровым опытом.
Суть игры: мы прибываем в больницу после того, как нам сообщили, что наша дочь исчезла.. Нам предстоит найти её, разгадать тайну её исчезновения попутно выживая в этом очень давящем атмосферой пугающим мире..

now that we are a good distance from the "Slender Fever" creepypasta era this game was a clear reaction to, i think the voice acting and the script is quite a good bit of campy fun. there's something delightfully silly in collecting diary pages that play a bored voice-over narration of the protagonist's daughter saying things like [i]"another day in the insane asylum. it was a nice day, nobody unalived. anyway.."[/i] or [i]"found a book here, in the insane asylum, on shadow demons, and i think one is following me for real"[/i] .. just .. it's so, so fun to listen along to. the game really blends together concepts from Silent Hill, Slender, and i assume the silhouette at least of the Babadook (never saw it, but didn't it come out first ??) to make a game that [i]should[/i] be a good laugh with some friends, mixed in with some solid jump scares.
Unfortunately, the game is, truly, deeply, and maddeningly unplayable.
The map is procedurally generated as you run through it - no hope of a guide or map to find the clues and carry on your merry way, and no guarantee of when you'll find a save point.
Okay, fair enough .. so you have to play smart, right ?
No. Not right at all.
The game's antagonist kills you in one move, if he gets close to you. The Hat Man pursues you relentlessly once he spots you, and this pursuit is truly [i]relentless[/i]. As I learned while streaming it, if you try to do what the game tells you to lose the Hat Man (turn off your light, hide out of sight, don't move), the Hat Man will politely wait at the spot he last observed you until you come out to die. I sat in a bathroom stall while the "Hatman is nearby" music played for about 10 minutes before I realized this fatal flaw. He won't disengage or begin some alternative patrol behavior; he just waits to kill you.
Since the game frequently forces you to go into a series of rooms with only one entrance, there will be times you go into such a room chain to collect a journal page, and find yourself boxed in by the Hat Man. There's no sneaking past, no stunning him, no waiting him out; he's at the door?
You lose, simple as.
You can skip these rooms and keep shuffling the procedurally generated map by running down the hall until you detect a journal page closer to the entrance, pop in, pop out, and hopefully don't get boxed in by the Hat Man, but this is incredibly tedious, and still prone to error, as you can't really know exactly where the page is until you pop into the room, and in the time you do that, you can quickly find yourself boxed in.
Let's say you commit to that. Let's say you only go into these "page within clear sight of the door" rooms, dash in, dash out. Your gameplay could take quite a long time. And you [i]still[/i] aren't guaranteed to clear it. Why?
The game ALSO generates spike pits at the end of some hallways. Run into that, turn around, Hat Man in the hall?
You lose, simple as.
You can also get caught by him spawning on the stairwells, which you can't avoid at times. I didn't encounter this, but it's an issue I've seen others report.
The only way you can briefly "lose" him is to go down into the basement and use a tight crawlspace to get around him. Basically, you go into a "one-entrance" room in a basement with a crawlspace, and [i]hope[/i] the crawlspace lets you loop behind him far enough from wherever he's parked that he doesn't catch you on the exit of it. But even this is just a temporary reprieve - he could still catch up to you sometime later.
So many of the game's problems would be fixed if saving was manual, instead of dependent on the randomly generated save rooms on the map. This is what truly makes the game unplayable; you can't even brute force your way through by spamming save states. You simply have to .. get lucky.
This game has so much to offer as a "so bad it's good" game. But sadly, it loops right back around to just plain bad with the frustrating enemy design and lack of manual save.

F#ck this game! I can't believe I took into my head to perfect it, and I never ever want to think about it again. I loathe this game. Highly don't recommend.
Ich war nicht wirklich überzeugt als ich mir das Spiel vor dem Kauf ansah, aber diese "kleinen Spiele" von kleineren Entwicklungsstudien haben für mich schon einen gewissen reiz. Die sind Technisch und Grafisch nicht auf hohen Level, aber der Gruselfaktor oder der Inhalt (Story) sind meistens was in Erinnerung bleibt, wie bei Cry of Fear. Obwohl dass ein wenig weit ausgeholt ist.
Beides Trifft hier nicht zu. Man ist ohne irgendwelche Vorkenntnisse irgendwo in einem Gebäude was einen Hotel ähnelt und nachdem man ein Buch findet verwandelt sich dieses "Hotel" in einer Irrenanstalt.
Keine wirkliche Story, nur rumrennen und Zettel aufsammeln. Über 5 Euro zu verlangen ist eine Unverschämtheit. Auch wenn es Kostenlos ist würde ich es nicht Spielen. Empfehle ich überhaupt nicht!

The Scariest Game of 2014” trumpets the website and Steam Store page. That would be quite an achievement, considering 2014 was the year of release for Alien: Isolation, Walking Dead Season 2, Daylight, the Outlast DLC, and The Evil Within. Well, OK, that last one was pants. Scratch that one. But still, quite a claim. Unfortunately, as with movies, so with videogames: the unattributed quotation is a great big red flag.

This is not the only peculiar claim the game has going. Having a good hefty gaming rig, I usually go into game options to figure out how high I can push the graphics settings. This game has three levels available: So So, Good and Fantastic. I selected Fantastic. Then I restarted the game to make sure I hadn’t accidentally clicked something else at the last second. Nope, that was supposed to be Fantastic. I therefore tried out So So, and there was no discernible difference except the sporadically-appearing hand icon being a little rougher round the edges. I understand this is an Indie effort, but claiming Fantastic settings when games like Dark Meadow look better on an iPad is just odd.

Controls are standard fare: WASD to move, Q and E to lean, space to jump (and I did not find a good reason for ever doing so), J for Journal and I for Inventory. Where the control scheme does veer away from these norms is in being erratic and unresponsive. There is really not that much to interact with in the game, and the few that can be risk being missed because the interaction area can be obtusely precise and the response rate so poor. I spent a good five minutes trying to open bathroom stalls before realising that you have to aim exactly at the handle – and even then half the time you can’t get the door to open. This is then accompanied by an on-screen message “click to open” which is all the more frustrating when you’re attempting precisely that.
Hat ManThat’s a lie. And from you, the scariest game of 2014. I expected better.
The game’s exposition and narrative are also baffling. You can choose to play as Father or Mother for no good reason. You then appear in an elevator, with a telegram in front of you conveying the parallel messages that a) your daughter has disappeared from the insane asylum where she was presumably resident, but b) you don’t need to bother yourself going there, it’s all good. Finding your way to what was presumably your daughter’s room, picking up her journal prompts a full-on Silent Hill transportation to a ruined version of the asylum, and the random scattering of the pages. Finding these pages pretty much is the balance of the game.

It was not till I found the eleventh of these pages that the premise of dealing with the game’s antagonist is explained: shut off the flashlight and crouch. However, by the time I’d found this gem of information, I’d already found it is almost impossible to consistently turn the flashlight off and it was far easier to simply walk away. Because all the Hat Man does is float at you if you look at him. So, just walk away. Because the game is procedurally generated, and not very well, I also found it was a good policy just to keep turning left and listen for the audio cue that a page was nearby.

You can also listen to the story, such as it is, by opening the journal when you’ve collected a page. You can turn off the voiceover if you want, but I left it on for the surprise value when the voice over audio doesn’t match the actual page you picked up. And the voice over artist appears to change at least once. The story is simplistic – daughter is in an asylum, she sees the Hat Man in her dreams, no one believes her except a fellow patient who conveniently has a book on the entire thing.

This is also supposed to be “based on a true story.” Maybe I’m just too demanding, but usually I think “based on a true story” usually means the work has a story of its own, drawing inspiration from real-life events. This game doesn’t have a story. It’s less “based on a true story” and more “makes vague reference to an urban legend while you walk around.” The whole pages thing and entity pursuit is lifted wholesale from the Slender Man anyway. The game is set in the Canton insane asylum. Wikipedia tells me there was once a Canton Indian Insane Asylum, and the idea of the “shadow people” apparently comes from Native American myth. That’s not expounded on in the game and I’m not sure if that small amount of detective work provides any additional value.

There really is very little content and the game reaches for longevity by having almost non-existent save points so every time the Slender….sorry, Hat Man catches you, you’re kicked back to the start. So, no, it’s not the scariest game of 2014. It’s the most boring game of the 15 minutes of your life you’re not getting back before you decide to exit forever.
I open the in-game journal & the character runs like crazy even if I'm not pressing any keys, and I find my character stuck to a wall.
Poor save file mechanics and no checkpoints in game.
Sometimes even the Hatman spawns close to you when you get to a dead end, then you gotto load the game from the beginning.. seriously game?

The Hat Man: Shadow Ward is not really a good game, so what is the story. A young girl who's trying to get psychiatric help goes missing and only her parent can find and save her.
What is the likes, well the game does have a good spooky atmosphere that does keep you on edge. The enemy in the game the Hat man does have an interesting look to him. The graphics in the game were okay, nothing really to write home about, the music was fine and the story was nice and simple. The voice acting in the game is bad, but in a sort of funny way.
What is the dislikes, well for starters the game can really be confusing when you first play it there's no real objective, you just have to go collect some pages until you find an item you can use. The game can kind of tell you what you need to do but can be a little bit vague, especially when you being chased by the Hat man and you can't really give it some thought.
The game can also be really frustrating when you're being chased by the Hat Man is no real place to hide from him, so you have to keep running when you see him or hear him, it can be kind of frustrating when there's a page that you can pick up but have to leave it when you hear him coming, and when you pick up more pages he just gets more frustrating in his attempt to get you.
There's also a lot of bugs in the game especially one game breaking bug you see after getting all the pages you have to go to your daughter's room and get a crucifix, but for some reason all the ways are blocked and no matter where I went I could not get to the daughter's room and it made me restart the whole game and this has happened to me two times, and it can be extremely frustrating if you're trying to get all the achievements. Also the game is $10 and for such a frustrating and buggy game I feel like it should have been for free.
Okay that said The Hat Man: Shadow Ward is not really a good game, I can't really recommend it I mean if you do want to play it I think get it when it’s on sale, but even then that's only being gracious. Truth be told I've seen a lot better indie games made by like a few people or even one person that were a lot better than this.
