This game is still captivating, and enchanting with its moody video sequences, and compelling story telling 30 years later. The puzzles are alluring and smart. I'm a major fan of this Gabriel Knight series.
A strange relic of an older era. I think I'd have liked this game, if I stumbled upon it at a younger age with more patience and less distractions. There's nothing wrong with it at all. It captures a certain light of the world you don't see often anymore. I think my haste to toss it, despite its quality, is some social commentary in and of itself.

This game has an interesting storyline and keeps you hooked until the end. There is a good balance between actually playing the game and watching the videos and cutscenes.
The acting in the videos is of high quality and adds to the immersion. It really dragged me into the game.
The game has some challenging parts, but in the end it's all worth it when the story develops.
If you like a videogame with a great story, than definitely check this one out. You won't be disappointed.

A great little interactive movie that is a real treat if you're a Gabriel Knight fan. The puzzles are sometimes too obtuse (the tape recorder mechanic promises to be way more involved in the game than it actually is, often making a red herring of itself) and blue screens gonna blue screen, but it's really cool to see what a Gabriel Knight TV series might have looked like in the 90s. Everyone does a great job in their roles and Peter J Lucas kills it in what appears to be his first US acting credit as von Glower.
Vintage amazing
I played a lot of the original Sierra games when I was a kid, but never played this one (probably due to the adult themes). My daughter insisted I buy this series because I "don't know all the answers". This is also the first FMV I think I have played outside of 7th Guest, and this was more involved than that.
The second game picks up shortly after the end of the first game. I like the story a lot, pretty predictable, but still enjoyable. The actor for Gabrielle is not quite like I pictured him overall after the first game, but that was fine. Grace did pretty well and Von Glower was awesome. There was a lot of waiting around for the scenes to get through (I accidentally clicked through an important one and had no idea what was going on so had to reload) or walking the character back and forth through multiple areas to get through the puzzles...a bit different from just reading the text and increasing the movement speed like in the pixilated point and click games. Overall though, I really enjoyed it.
This is peak FMV point and click gaming.

I had a blast with this one, jank and all. It's not an especially challenging game, and I wish it didn't end so abruptly, but I greatly enjoyed what I got and any issues are more than made up for with the charming atmosphere and cast. It's a game made of heart, strong artistic vision, and the 90's best CGI wolf technology -- what more could you want?

El primer título de Gabriel Knight me conquistó al instante en su día y lo colocaría sin dudarlo en lo más alto junto a obras maestras del género de la aventura gráfica como Broken Sword. Ese entusiasmo me llevó a probar rápidamente esta secuela hace tiempo, también muy elogiada por la crítica experta. Sin embargo, el cambio a FMV me disgustó bastante, la dificultad del juego acompañada a las cinemáticas sin subtítulos tampoco ayudaron y las señalizaciones, los diálogos y los nombres en alemán terminaron definitivamente con mi paciencia, fue una experiencia amarga y no pasé del primer capítulo en ese intento.
Hace poco decidí darle una nueva oportunidad con un parche al español y aunque el principio se me ha vuelto a hacer un poco coñazo y desesperante, una vez superado ese primer capítulo la historia va ganando muchísimo porque se enriquece con un contexto histórico interesante, el cual está elaborado a la perfección en las fases de investigación y de documentación bibliotecaria, cuando manejamos al personaje de Grace. Esa decisión de intercalar las aventuras de Gabriel en Munich con las de su ayudante en las zonas más rurales sí que me ha aparecido un acierto que le da una ventaja al videojuego con respecto a su predecesor. Los encuentros con la policía y con los miembros del club también van ganando en intensidad volviendo el caso más interesante y los puzzles se resuelven con una mayor fluidez ¡Gracias a Dios! Al descubrir todo esto entiendo su fama, pero sigo sintiendo que ha envejecido un poco mal.

Gabriel Knight's first title instantly captivated me, and I would undoubtedly place it alongside masterpieces of the graphic adventure genre like Broken Sword. That enthusiasm led me to quickly try this sequel some time ago, which was also highly praised by critics. However, the switch to FMV gameplay was quite disappointing. The game's difficulty, coupled with the lack of subtitles in the cutscenes, didn't help matters, and the German signage, dialogue, and names finally exhausted my patience. It was a bitter experience, and I didn't get past the first chapter on that attempt.
I recently decided to give it another try with a Spanish patch, and although the beginning was once again a bit of a drag and frustrating, once I got past that first chapter the story improved considerably. It was enriched by an interesting historical context, which is perfectly crafted in the investigation and library research phases when we control Grace. The decision to alternate Gabriel's adventures in Munich with those of his assistant in the more rural areas was definitely a success, giving the game an edge over its predecessor. The encounters with the police and the club members also become more intense, making the case more interesting, and the puzzles are solved much more smoothly—thank goodness! After discovering all this, I understand its fame, but I still feel it hasn't aged well.

Classic game lives up to the FMV style. Some things are corny and granted I kinda wish the game's ending was better, it's still a great game.
It was patched overall very well and used the GK project nicely. If you've never played a horror/FMV style point n clicker. GK2 is certainly a banger and runs overall great on modern hardware with little to no issues.
The finale was a bit buggy and you have to click differently, but beyond that. Great game as always!
The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery é o segundo jogo da série Gabriel Knight, mas que fora algumas informações contextuais envolvendo as relações entre personagens e o papel do protagonista pode ser jogado de maneira isolada, cada um destes primeiros jogos acaba abordando um caso diferente, quase como se fossem episódios de uma série de "monstro da semana" como Arquivo X, Supernatural e Buffy.
Neste jogo vemos a segunda aventura de Gabriel, investigando assassinatos possivelmente cometidos por um lobisomem na Alemanha, porém ele não está sozinho: nessa sequência jogamos também como a Gracie, a assistente dele do primeiro jogo, que aqui ganha um papel bem maior. O jogo possui um tom diferente, um pouco menos humoroso e mais sombrio do que seu antecessor, porém sua essência permanece a mesma: uma narrativa com elementos de aventura, terror, romance e História. Os personagens seguem bem divertidos de acompanhar, e a narrativa continua muito bem escrita - e até possui alguns subtextos que me surpreenderam muito pra um jogo dos anos 90.
O maior diferencial da vez, e o que chama a atenção de cara quando você vê imagens do jogo, são seus visuais FMV que substituem a pixel art do original. Isso também significou a troca dos atores que interpretam os personagens, sendo que os dubladores do original não necessariamente se pareciam com os personagens. Essa troca de estilo visual pode causar um pouco de estranhamento no início, mas uma vez que ele passa, eu diria que funciona surpreendentemente bem: os novos atores que interpretam o Gabriel e a Gracie são ótimos, e os visuais e a atuação que poderiam ser risíveis se encaixam muito bem com o material - ainda existe aquele charme de algo datado ou "bobo", porém nos momentos em que o jogo quer ser sério ele consegue, o nível de produção aqui é bem alto.
Quanto à gameplay, ela se mantém a de um point-and-click tradicional, com todos seus pontos positivos e negativos - existem aqui instâncias de objetos escondidos demais no cenário, diagramação um pouco confusa sobre onde você pode ir em determinada tela, ou quebra-cabeças que poderiam ter tido pistas melhores no texto do jogo, mas num geral eu diria que o jogo é bem direto e até mais fácil do que o primeiro.
Eu gostei bastante do meu tempo jogando The Beast Within, e acredito que qualquer um que seja fã de jogos Adventure point-and-click antigos e especialmente os que jogaram o primeiro jogo vão gostar bastante da experiência também. Seus visuais podem ser um pouco difíceis de se habituar para um público moderno, mas mesmo assim sugiro que deem uma chance.
i adore 90s FMV games & this one is fantastic! it's clear that so much care went into creating this game from the graphics, backgrounds, and assets to the dialogue and lore/story.
i played most of the first gabriel knight game before starting this one (sins of the fathers) but i did not complete it due to some technical issues. i would generally recommend playing it first or maybe watching a playthrough because it was definitely helpful to have the background context for gabriel & grace's dynamic and some lore stuff like why gabriel ended up in germany and what it means that gabriel is a schattenjäger, as well as some fun in-jokes and references to characters/situations in the first game. but i do think the beast within would work fine if you hadn't played the previous game, and the mystery itself does not rely upon knowledge learned in the previous game. without getting into spoiler territory, the core mystery is really satisfying to unravel, the characters are well-acted and entertaining, and the split protagonist situation adds so much good flavor and drama.
puzzle-wise, it can be quite challenging and mildly frustrating at times, i had to rely on an online hint guide to figure out what i was missing in several parts of the game, but that's to be expected from point & click mysteries from this era. the only part of the game where i felt actually frustrated was [spoiler] during the chapter where you are first exploring neuschwanstein as grace and have to listen to the audio tapes for every room in the castle as well as tapes describing all the artwork, because it's extremely easy to miss something and not realize it, so i got stuck for a while relistening to a lot of the same long audio files over and over again. several of the rooms also require you to click the audio tape button multiple times for additional lore, but there's no indicator for which rooms have multiple audio files. there are also some difficult-to-notice room transitions in a couple other areas during exploration with grace. thankfully her journal helped a lot with this problem as you can kind of tell when there's information missing on a specific topic when there's empty space on a page, so if you pay attention to where you got information on a topic, you can kind of retrace your steps and double check everything else in that room/area. i would recommend it to anyone who enjoys games of this era and doesnt mind a little clunkiness, or to someone who's curious about FMV games, loves a good mystery, & doesn't mind potentially needing to rely on a guide or hints to get through some of the tougher sections. it takes some patience but it's very worth it!

Je ne m'y attendais pas mais j'ai absolument adoré le jeu. L'ayant connu à cause de sa traduction française absurde je m'attendais à rire du jeu tout le temps, mais la version originale en anglais est excellente. Les silences à la suite des dialogues sont tout de même comique.
Certaines énigmes sont un peu tirées par les cheveux mais le jeu est globalement intuitif et agréable.

all thought the graphics are very dated, this is still one of the best adventure games ever written. because it not system demanding it can be played on a lap top. Idealy a 17 inch monitor would be perfect. the somewhat smaller screen would make the graphics so much better than a large (24 in etc) screen. it plays easy on windows 10 64 bit. I highly recommend it.
A trip down memory lane.
As a fan of GK1, I bought the original GK2 as it were available, back in 95. Still have the complete box, with 6 cd's. Graphics today may not look like much, but in the day they were simply amazing. Solved the game with no help, because at the time, internet access were limited and not so many reviews anyway. It is a game of a time that has passed, but a time with another charm. Like listening to an old cherished music, it is still pleasurable to enjoy.

Gabriel Knight 2: Sins of the Fathers is a brave attempt to adapt Sierra's original pixel graphics format to the interactive movie medium. When migrating Sierra's traditional storytelling to this new form the player may find the game's presentation to be somewhat austere. Live actors undertaking the task of replicating the dynamic delivery of animation can find the strain challenging. When watching the opera that set up the chase at the end of the movie, I found maintaining my interest in the performance equally challenging. Rated 6 out of 10.
Could barely last 10 minutes. The visuals are hard to look at being such an old game (in this particular style). if there was a remake or something, I might give it a shot but as it is, just can't force myself.

It's just such a pleasure to play because of the tremendous quality of the writing, acting, plot and music. Looking at the screenshots, I thought the live action aspect was going to be a barrier, but it wasn't at all, maybe I liked this one more than the first game.
What a wonderful game. Those FMV games from the early-mid 90s are something quite unique, but this is the best one of the all IMO - maybe together with a couple of the Tex Murphy games.
Now imagine this, you are actually playing a game that utilizes old European architecture, culture and music (Wagner) as part of its story. It's such a breath of fresh air, considering how games nowadays seem to ignore the rich European cultural history, to instead focus on some generic diverse futuristic or post-apocalyptic vision. This game represents better times IMO. Next Gen graphics aren't everything...
If you have a slight interest in retro games, THIS is the one to play IMO.
Total nostalgia trip. I played this game as a teen and was a huge fan of Sierra adventure games. It introduced me to Neuschwanstein Castle (never heard of it back then!), and to this day, visiting it is still on my bucket list. The story of King Ludwig and Richard Wagner stuck with me so much, I even wrote a school play about Wagner once. We didn’t win, but hey—memories!
Some graphics look a bit rough on my setup (still working on upgrading my GPU). If anyone has tips to make the visuals less grainy, I’m all ears. Tried messing with the Steam overlay—no luck so far.
Still, despite the dated visuals, this game holds up. Such a great trip down memory lane.

As a kid I really wanted to love it but it just was too difficult for me to figure out the puzzles. Like, how am I supposed to know to record the dudes voice and then slice them together to create a message for someone else to hear? Idk, I guess my mind wasn't geared for these types of games. I did like it, even if the puzzles are difficult and I never got very far.

I'm surprised how much I loved my time with Gabriel Knight 2. This is an adventure game that, while dated, grips you with it's twists, exaggerated acting, and anticipatory atmosphere. The story is one that has a lot of sincerity and I enjoyed piecing together the true motives of our main 'villain'. The ending does leave a little to be desired, but the remainder of the experience is delightful.

Un ancien jeu Sierra qui reste indémodable et que j'aime rejouer au fil du temps. J'ai encore le jeu, mais il ne tourne plus du tout avec Windows 11. Heureusement qu'il existe la possibilité de l'acheter chez Steam. J'aime le concept du jeu avec de vrais acteurs et de la documentation sur les lieux ou historique qui agrémentent très bien l'histoire. Le seul gros puzzle qui fait un peu tourner la tête :P est à la fin. Munissez-vous d'un bloc-note pour y parvenir (impossible de le faire à l'aveuglette, à moins d'avoir de la chance)...

Pura Nostalgia. Esse game foi excelentemente bem produzido para época. Rodei ele no meu Pentium 200 e ainda tinha que trocar o CD (eram 2). Peguei por coleção e eventual jogatina. Vale muito a pena pois o jogo é interativo.
great game, unlike gk1 and gk3 it works without problems out of the box. It's not like GK1 though, but plays similarly, with way less freedom of action but paradoxically way more trial and error needed. This is mostly due to puzzle being nastier to compensate the smaller spectrum of possible actions, and to interaction with the world being unified in LMB, without being able to know if clicking on an interactable will trigger examination or any kind of physical interaction, or talk etc. Really engrossing story though, makes up for the somewhat more streamlined gameplay. Still pretty hard to go through (without a guide obviously), but all puzzles were more or less fair and I could figure them all out even if I got stuck more than once. Chapter 4 is a mess though, and a specific event informing gracie of an incoming package didn't trigger for me, but I was able nonetheless to receive the package without getting stuck.
Also actors are all great, Gabriel is a little different than its Tim Curry version but fully in character and Grace feels as the actual personification of GK1-grace, it's uncanny

Classic from the 90's. Yes, the cinema scenes are patchy, and the acting a bit off. But, it's still a great story that's a lot of fun.

Jane Jensens Sequel to the first Gabriel Knight Game really aged like fine wine. First the Elephant in the Room: The game is from 1996 and back then the video compression was the best possible. Today.. not so much. It makes me wish so bad that Sierra kept it´s raw materials and restaurate the FMV sequences. But it´s still watchable.
The game itself: A great adventure with a great storyline. Actors are pretty good and the Use of Video sequences has been great. This really feels like a move where you can interact. The game is divided in 6 chapters where you either play as Gabriel or Grace slowly unveiling the Mystery of the Bavarien Werewolf.
For 6 Euro you get an entertaining interactive Movie which will keep you busy for 15 to 20 hours without a walkthrough. If you haven´t played it, buy it by any means.
This package only contains the fabulous english original version which is very entertaining for German players when Gabriel who doesn´t speak German and other protagonists have massive communication problems.
If you are German and you want to play the localized version with unintentionally comedic German speech, fear not. You find a patch here. You can install this one right over this installation. Pretty self explaining.

Amazing game, I love music and story
I actually liked the game but I cannot recommend it because I got multiple save crashes, I had to replay some sequences, and in chapter 4 I just got a random save crash making me lose more than a full chapter progress. If you still want to try it, the acting is very solid, but the plot was a bit slow and worse than the first one in my opinion.
Plot is enthralling, and the acting is excellent. Puzzles were on the hard side due to too-vague clues, but Thank Jeebus for walkthroughs.

Educational and interesting concept of an adventure game. It was necessary to look up as some things were not as obvious, for example, needed to pixel hunt.
Overall a good '90s game and a classic.
Jó, někomu to holt trvá a mně to trvalo něco málo přes 25 let, než jsem se odhodlal pustit do této extrémně zastaralé hry po dohrání remaku prvního dílu z roku 2014. Nesnáším FMV hry a teprve geniální počiny z nového tisíciletí typu "Her Story" + můj pokročilý věk + pokročilá znalost mluvené angličtiny mi umožnily se pustit do této relikvie.
Technická stránka je strašná - na rozdíl od stylizovaných pixelartů z doby i před 30 lety je FMV video téměř nekoukatelné, komprimované, barevná paleta je velmi omezená a kdo nadával na Quake (1996) v odstínech hnědi, by se zde rozplakal.
Nicméně hra je velmi realisticky podaná, skvěle (v rámci možností) zahraná, příběh je uvěřitelný a nad množstvím rešerší, které museli autoři provést ohledně německé historie a reálií, zůstává rozum stát.
Jedná se o přímé pokračování prvního dílu, takže jeho fandům doporučuji všemi deseti.
Bez návodu to ale zřejmě nepůjde. Pixelhunting je reálný, feedback na-co-klikat neexistuje a hra je tak extrémně lineární, že potenciální zásek znamená čumění na stejné obrázky a poslouchání stejných audiostop pořád dokola.
Hru jsem dohrál pod ScummVM a každému doporučuji totéž, protože originál je i pod DosBoxem poměrně nepříjemná zkušenost.
This game is great, and might be the only FMV game to my knowledge that was able to use the technology right. While the puzzles are a bit simplified and the gameplay is rather linear due to the FMV constraints, the game more than makes up for it with a fantastic story, clever dialogue, suspenseful scenes, and surprisingly strong acting. I particularly liked the fascinating main villain, who is charming, witty, and mysterious, and has great chemistry with Gabriel. While not perfect, one can feel the care and ambition that went into producing a very unique gaming experience. Every retro adventure fan should at least give this a chance!
I only recommend it because it is a timeless classic, and one of the first FMV adventure games. All GK games are different in terms of design, and this one was created when FMV was in fashion after CD drives became very common on PC.
FMV gives a lot of restrictions in terms of what characters can do, so the game might look extremely slow-paced and outdated to modern players. Videos are sometimes too long and tedious, and sometimes unnecessary (in example, walking up and down stairs). Luckily, you can skip it, and you will.
Story to my mind is the weakest in GK series and actors are contributing a lot to this factor. The actor who plays Gabriel is overacting a lot, and he uses so much weirds mimics that it is almost comical sometimes. Given the story is meant to be very dark, he is literally killing the mood most of the time. Grace is more in character, but she struggles with '♥♥♥♥♥♥' parts in the script, so it looks quite clumsy sometimes.
However, if you would like to get in touch with Bavarian history and mysteries, you might like the game. Just don't get your hopes too high, it is nowhere near GK1 and GK3 levels.
The FMV format can be a bit off putting and the game was ridiculous at some times However, from all the FMV games out there, this is one that was pretty well made. The story is good but the combination between the story and the German historical background, which was a very important part of this game, made playing it a real nice experience.

The game that changed my life. I literally took German classes and visited the country because of this. I still love Ludwig, own his biography, and long to visit his castles. All because of a game with a nearly perfect story and script.

One of the Best 90s Adventure Game. I know FMV format is frowned upon but this is one of the few games to pull it of with grace. 10/10 for its story and Atmosphere!

Great memories. It was and still is a fantastic Point & Click mystery game with a thrilling story around Ludwig II of Bavaria and lycanthropy.
Very disappointing after GK1.
The story and the characters are uninteresting.
Gabriel is bland.
Grace is insufferable.
The gameplay is rather unpleasant, with some very difficult to notice interaction points or pathways.
There is ridiculous sequence of events. Ex: flower that only blooms after you try to speak with someone specific.
The postal office timeline is seriously in question here.
The audio is often garbled.
I really enjoyed this game.
What drew me to it initially was the cheesy 90's FMV cut scenes, and it gives plenty of that.
It's actually got a really good and in depth story line, the characters are all likeable and funny, and it gives a lot of game play because a lot of the time you are figuring out what the hell you are meant to be doing! That's half the fun of it all though...
It's made me want to try out all the other Gabriel Knight games in the series, although this is the only one with cheesy 90's FMV cut scenes unfortunately.
If you are looking for a 90's point and click adventure, I would highly recommend this one!

Şu oyunu doksanlı yıllarda tüplü ekranda oynadığım zamanları hatırlıyorum. Tam bir nostalji oldu ekledim hemen listeme. Oyun interaktif adventure türünün en önemli örneklerinden ve bence en iyisi. Bir de bunun yanında phantasmagoria serisi vardır, o da efsanedir ama bunun yeri ayrı.
Si bien el primero es uno de mis favoritos, éste entrega tiene una ambientación tan bien lograda gracias a su banda sonora e historia, que logró mantenerme frente a la pantalla a pesar de sus puntos flojos.
Lo bueno: Lo anteriormente dicho, la historia, la banda sonora, y la idea del juego en sí.
Lo no tan bueno: Hay puzzles que son muy complicados de resolver ya que son pixel a pixel, justo en determinado lugar e incluso a veces se confunde con otro sector del escenario.
Por otra parte, también está el problema de que hay algunos puzzles que son tan complejos de entender el concepto del mismo (ejemplo: la grabadora).
Otro problema que le he encontrado es que a veces para que te tome algo como terminado, hay que dejar que los personajes lean absolutamente todo el texto. Ésto no es un spoiler, sino un aviso, hay que tener cuidado con estas cosas. Tal vez te leíste todo un libro, pero si sacas antes que el narrador terminé de recitar las cartas o libros, no te lo toma como completo.
Fuera de ésto, es un excelente juego que me atrapó incluso con sus puntos negativos.

You control both Gabriel and his assistant Grace Nakimura, who each solve the case together in different environments and are in contact with letters. The characters are well laid out and longer cutscenes add to the suspense. You take control in the usual point and click gameplay.
This game is a bit old, but has aged well and is still very playable. I recommend purchasing in a bundle or in a discount campaign. Have fun!

Dieses Spiel ist ein wenig in die Jahre gekommen, aber gut gealtert und immer noch sehr empfehlenswert Ich empfehle die Anschaffung im Bundle oder im Sale. Viel Spaß!

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 to 3 drops green food coloring
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 package (3.4 ounces) instant pistachio pudding mix
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped pistachios or pecans
1/2 cup green colored sugar
Directions
In a large bowl, beat the butter, oil and confectioners' sugar until blended (mixture will clump together). Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in extract and food coloring.
Combine the flour, pudding mix, baking soda, cream of tarter and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture. Stir in nuts. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 375°.
Shape into 1-in. balls; roll in colored sugar. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 7-9 minutes or until cookies are set. Cool for 1 minute before removing to wire racks. Store in an airtight container.
Very well written story line and the realism of the characters makes it fun to play the mystery.
It is one of the better FMV games out there and has a pretty robust story. It is way more complex than Phantasmagoria and can be quite difficult at parts, but that is what walkthroughs are for.
Don't let the play time.fool you. I walked away from it for days and didn't realize I left it running.
