This is a decent continuation for the series after the escape from monkey island fiasco, the 3D is way better, the gameplay is back to the point and click style and the story makes sense. I just can't understand why the game is divided in 5 parts..
Nonetheless, very nice first chapter, got me hooked for the next one.

ToMI is hard to review as it has 5 episodes that should be looked at separately. They do all share the same graphics, UI and controls. The story focus, pacing and setting does usually change. The graphics are generally okay. The characters are expressive and the game can be very colourful even if it’s not impressive technically. The voice actors did a good job, the UI is clearer and better than the previous games. The controls are pretty bad when you try to play it entirely with a mouse. Playing with a controller is not better since the UI navigation suffers. You can use WASD but a game like this is usually ideal with a mouse.
On to the episodes:
One
A very slow start but it can be excused for setting things up and getting started. While it’s not a bad episode, it does not impress. It can lose an audience when not much is happening.
Two
Although this episode is fairly slow too, it’s slightly better paced. It also has more interesting environments and puzzles.
Three
This is the best or second best episode in the list. The pacing improves significantly, the NPC and locations are far more interesting.
Four
The worst episode and a huge turn off. Not only are you getting the content from episode one fully rehashed, the puzzles are challenging on a whole different, stupid level. AND the first part is an annoying interrogation in a court setting. It was so bad that I watched the rest of the second half on YouTube and was considering giving up on episode 5.
Five
A massive improvement over four and the second best episode. Here you feel the stakes are high and what you’re doing matters to the overall plot without being slowed down.
And that’s the thing, on top of everything mentioned about the episodes, I am left thinking that most of what I did was a huge distraction (or unrelated) and didn’t move the story forward. Most of the major developments can be summed up in one or two sentences for each episode. So I’m left wondering who this is for. I can only see the die hard fans enjoying the fanservice and jokes that they will understand. Newcomers will enjoy the gentler approach (aside from episode four) but not getting the significance of plot points. ToMI is best described as a filler game. It’s not the worst or bad but I’m not sure many need to play it. I still had fun overall, I spent less than 18 hours total according to steam.
The entire serries is great... challenging.. but great. if you play them in order and know the story line.. it's 100 times better.. highly recommend

It was a double surprise in 2009, not just a remaster of the original Monkey Island but a new game too. It wasn't the best preview: even if made by a team with some ex-Lucasarts people who were trying to give new life to the adventure genre - it was before The Walking Dead shifted them towards a different direction - it just exposed the harsh reality that times were changed, now an episodic low budget affair further limited by imposed space constraints (it came out even on Wii), with 3D graphics looking like not much time had passed since Escape.
In motion, luckily, it's much better than in screenshots because for all its limits, it is really well animated and characters very expressive. Guybrush of course looks the best, with a design that mixes elements of the second and third game, and rocks that goatee. The game takes advantage of being full 3D, with camera movements within locations and some well directed cutscenes.
Make no mistake, though, the limitations of budget and space are still clear at every turn: minor characters that are the same few models with different textures, a low number of polygons (painfully evident in close-ups), a generally plastic look, and really low quality textures. It unfortunately reduces the impact some scenes could have had (especially during the ending). The occasional 2D art that appears is fantastic, and a sad reminder that what we see here is not for lack of talent.
The first impact with the interface is also not great, as unless you are a masochist who'd enjoy using that dreadful mouse movement system, clearly a bad implementation on PC of something conceived for gamepads, you have to navigate with the keyboard but, thankfully, the mouse is still used for interactions, now simplified to the max (not even distinctions between looking and interacting, just one left click for everything). The ability to run is a bless, and works even if you hold the Shift key and click on something to reach.
I got used to it quickly but I'm not a big fan of the inventory forcing to first put two objects to combine in slots, which makes experimenting with combinations tedious.
Each of the episodes is basically what a Chapter was in the older games, although due to all the aforementioned limitations, their scopes are much smaller than any old Chapter: you have to do a lot of back and forth between a few locations, which can easily turn things tedious after a while, especially if you end up stuck with some of the most annoying puzzles; their design is an overall mixed bag throughout the whole miniseries. One personal highlight is the treasure hunt based on sound cues. I found Episode 3 the worst due to the least variety of locations, very annoying puzzles, and insufferable characters, a shame because it's also the one where Murray appears.
Where Tales excels, to a point it made me forgive quite a few of its many weaknesses, is in the writing, also helped by a consistently excellent voice acting that sees, among others, the voice actress of Elaine from Curse reprise her role. While humour and absurdities always abound, there is a clear attempt at returning to the style, characterizations and atmospheres of the earliest games, and the stakes are bigger than in the past. It's not always spot-on, as Episode 3 shows, but the last two episodes take some turns into the darkest Monkey Island has ever been, yet still managing to keep its light-hearted core.
Beside the historical trio of Guybrush, Elaine and LeChuck, the biggest addition to Tales is Morgan LeFlay, a really well-rounded character whose dynamic and interactions with Guybrush may cause some to share Ron Gilbert's doubts on whether making Guybrush and Elaine marry each other was a good idea, even if they managed to build some good bits of characterization around that too. She's also easy on the eyes, as far as such simple 3D model allows because when her head is shown in profile... meh.
It lives on steep highs and lows but, after finishing all five episodes, I can see a flawed attempt at breathing new life into Monkey Island, yet admirable for managing that with so many limitations. Its importance at the time can't be understated: if it was the end of the franchise, the legacy wouldn't be Escape.
In a final and in retrospective unfortunate choice, the game is not content with being a self-contained adventure of Guybrush but ends leaving some plot threads unresolved, with a big post-credits cliffhanger that clearly points to further Tales that have never come to fruition.

Classic monkey island humor. Not a big fan of 3D adventure games but it came out when 3D was the trend. Still very entertaining to play. Love the whole Monkey Island series.
In my personal opinion, The Curse of Monkey Island is still the best game in the series—but this one comes very close.
It has all the charm and humor the series is famous for, along with good puzzles and decent controls (especially when compared to the horrible fourth title, Escape from Monkey Island). The puzzles themselves are fair and well-designed. I only had to check a walkthrough twice, and you can definitely finish the entire game without one.
Even though I still prefer full mouse control in my point-and-click games—and that’s not the case here, since you have to move the character with the keyboard—it’s still acceptable and doesn’t ruin the gameplay at all.
Overall, it’s a great entry in the series, and I can’t wait to start the next title.
I like Telltale , but this one should have stayed in the dust pile.

Peguei o jogo junto de um bundle que vinha Batman e TWAU, então decidi testar. Os diálogos são bem engraçados e a interpretação dos personagens é muito boa, mas a não ser que você seja da época do jogo e queira reviver a nostalgia, é provável que não irá se acostumar muito bem à jogabilidade e gráficos do jogo, e acabar cansando depois de um tempo.
Spaßiges Adventure mit Guybrush, lediglich die Steuerung kann etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig sein.
Oh und als Info: Das Spiel ist auch komplett in Deutsch inklusiver Deutscher Vertonung. Das Spiel hatte am Release nur Englisch als Sprache aber etwas später kam noch Deutsch hinzu. Scheinbar hatte Telltale vergessen die verfügbaren Sprachen im Steamshop zu aktualisieren.

It is a great game that is just fun with good humor. It is very goofy and a simple game to pick up and play. Chapter 1 introduces the story well and you have plenty of puzzles to solve in Flotsam Island.

I played a lots of the point and click advantures back in the early Monkey Island days. I was skeptical about the art work to start off with but as I played it, it really does feel like the good old Monkey Island. And for a few bucks for the whole 5 chapters, I'm more than happy!

Desarrollada en 2009 por la extinta y renacida Telltale Games, Tales of Monkey Island fue una de las últimas aventuras gráficas que desarrolló la empresa norteamericana antes de dar el salto absoluto a las aventuras narrativas, y es una pena porque no se les daba mal del todo viendo lo que hicieron con Wallace & Gromit, Regreso al Futuro, Sam & Max y este Tales of Monkey Island.
Dentro de la saga monil está bastante lejos de las tres primeras entregas, obviamente, pero es bastante mejor que La Fuga de Monkey Island y no sabría decir si mejor que Return of Monkey Island, en mi opinión muy probablemente sí argumentalmente al menos, pero sea como sea al menos su arte conceptual no es una aberración para la vista como sí lo es la otra. En cualquier caso es cuestión de gustos, pero al menos has de saber que no es un mal juego siempre y cuando no busques lo que ofrecen los primeros tres títulos. Tiene un buen argumento, es gracioso aquí y allá y sus puzles están bastante bien y en algunos aspectos supieron captar la esencia de la saga original, lo cual no está mal del todo.

El juego comienza de una manera bastante entretenida, mostrándonos una vez más la lucha de Threepwood contra LeChuck, a pelo, directo y sin ambages. Más que nada servirá como prólogo de la historia y como tutorial para enseñarnos como funciona todo. La cuestión es que por ese enfrentamiento, y al liarla muy gorda el bueno de Guybrush, convierte a su mujer Elaine en zombi y también zombifica su mano, además de expandir una peste por el caribe a modo de maldición vudú que convertirá a todo el mundo que entre en contacto con ella en zombi. He de reconocer que como premisa está bastante bien, es interesante. A partir de ahí, y durante cinco capítulos, nuestro objetivo será claro: deszombificar a Elaine por el bien de su matrimonio y a ser posible eliminar la maldición que él mismo ha provocado.
[h1]Control mejorable, humor y buenos puzles[/h1]
En lo que se refiere a su jugabilidad es similar a los otros juegos de la saga. Iremos de isla en isla solucionando las cosas como mejor podamos, aunque con el matiz, no menor, de que cada capítulo será básicamente una isla generalmente, por lo que la gracia de viajar por el caribe yendo y volviendo de una isla a otra como pasaba en las primeras entregas no sucede, y eso hace que se sienta todo un tanto artificioso en ese aspecto.
El humor por otro lado no está mal. No es ni de lejos tan gracioso como sus tres primeras entregas, pero ves que queda algo que recuerda al espíritu de la saga, y en algunos momentos incluso habrá situaciones bastante graciosas y sorprendentes, pero en general está muy lejos de lo visto en otras entregas.
Los puzles no están mal, están bien planteados, son lógicos la mayoría de ellos y no podría decirse que sea una aventura gráfica complicada ni mucho menos, pero eso sí, es una aventura gráfica donde pensar es obligatorio, no es en absoluto una aventura narrativa ni de lejos.
Donde si falla el juego un poco es en su control, el cual es un tanto raro, como ya pasaba en Regreso al futuro. Creo que esto se debe principalmente a estar pensado para jugarse con mando, aunque pierde mucha gracia hacerlo así la verdad, pero tener que dejar presionado el botón del ratón para que ande el personaje no es demasiado cómodo. Tampoco es algo que arruine la experiencia, pero sí que es un tanto molesto.
[h1]Aspecto técnico[/h1]
En el apartado técnico la verdad es que todo funciona bastante bien. Gráficamente se ve bien, aunque en mi opinión queda lejos de la calidad vista en las tres primeras entregas, pero no tienen la fealdad de la sexta. Algo es algo. No es especialmente bonito ni memorable nada en sus gráficos, y es una pena, sobre todo si lo compramos con su tercera entrega, pero es lo que hay.
En materia de voces hay claros y oscuros, aunque esto es muy particular de cada uno. La voz de Guybrush me gusta, es graciosa y divertida, la de LeChuck es bastante buena, pero la de Elaine aunque es pasable suena a una Karen de Alabama y hay algunas otras que parecen de la América profunda que no pegan nada en mi opinión, como la del reportero de la primera isla, por ejemplo. Pero bueno, en general más bien que mal.
Como solía pasar con Telltale, el juego no salió traducido al español, pero si sigues el enlace arriba indicado podrás descargar una traducción para poderlo jugar como mandan los cánones.

En definitiva, Tales of Monkey Island está muy lejos de llegar al nivel de las tres primeras entregas, pero logra conservar algo de la esencia de la saga ofreciendo una aventura gráfica amena y divertida con una historia interesante y algunos buenos momentos de humor estilo Monkey.
Les fans de Monkey Island, comme moi, seront heureux de cette petite série de Telltale, mais il faut le dire, les graphiques sont laids.

This is a review for all five chapters of the game Tales of Monkey Island, which is a 3D point & click adventure in the very long Monkey Island series (Secret of Monkey Island was the first PC game that I ever played, 35 years ago).
The voice acting, the 3D graphics, the visual and spoken humour, and the sheer imagination of the developers, are all superb and very enjoyable. I quickly found myself back in the familiar and happy/silly/pirate-y waters of the Caribbean with Guybrush, Elaine, LeChuck, and others.
But I have some reservations about the plot and associated puzzles. For the first couple of chapters I managed to work out nearly all of the puzzles myself, but in later chapters, as the puzzles became more involved but less intuitive (in my view), I increasingly struggled to progress without the use of a guide.
One other frustration was the amount of tedious walking/running in the 3D world e.g. around the towns, around the woods, and - especially - around the underworld in the final chapter to move between portals/rips; better map shortcuts would have been very welcome.
My play time across the five chapters was more than 23 hours for a total cost of UK £2.27, so, even allowing for the delays caused by the more obscure puzzles etc, I have no complaints about value for money. In summary, I had a very good time with the game, though some parts of its plot, puzzles and movement mechanics could have been tightened and improved.

I finally got around to playing this game, and it’s a solid start to the series. While the graphics can feel a bit generic at times with repetitive character models the overall setting is well crafted and visually appealing. The new characters introduced here are entertaining, with plenty of funny lines, and the dialogue is strong throughout. The story is set up nicely, laying a good foundation for what’s to come. I’m genuinely excited to continue with the next four parts. If they maintain the same level of quality, this is going to be a great experience.
Well, what can I say: It's Monkey Island at its core and it was really fun.
The story is ridiculous and the humor feels natural. The voice acting is well done and I actually enjoyed having this whole thing split up into 5 small parts. My favorites being episodes 2 and 3. Episode 1 is a really slow start and while 4 was still great, it felt a bit more "serious" than the rest of the game. Part 5 is way too much back and forth for my taste, that was kinda tedious.
Navigating Guybrush is okayish in this game. There are sections where it is really annoying, but not half as bad as in Escape. Still, with some things being on a timer here and there, it can get frustrating.
Overall, great experience!

For anyone who enjoys the old Telltale games this one is a nice start with jokes that reference the other telltale series games and offers puzzles that aren't hard but still give somewhat of a challenge.
Tales of Monkey Island - это пятая часть в серии Monkey Island, с которой я и познакомился с серией в далёком 2008-м. Именно Tales of влюбила меня в эту серию, её непутёвых героев и порой абсурдные загадки. Возможно, свой вклад внесли вайбы по "Бешеному Джеку Пирату". И хоть в итоге я стал усреднённым фанатом серии который ставит первые две части выше всех остальных - но пятёрка занимает особое место в моём сердце. Сравнивая с другими частями, что выделяет конкретно эту - это её сюжет: местами жёсткий, местами он деконструирует сюжеты предыдущих частей. В остальном - вполне ГОСТовский квест. Порой даже жаль, что после этого Теллтейл ударились в интерактивное кинцо с минимумом загадок.
Первый эпизод - вполне располагающая и бодрая завязка. Знакомят с персонажами и ключевым сюжетным конфликтом.
Artyle got a bit better than Escape from Monkey Island, and is certainly better than the recent addition to the franchise, but it still looks kinda ugly. Also the humor just doesn't hit the same - I feel like Telltale does better in this department in some of their other games.
It's not really bad, it just doesn't feel that much like a game (because it was made by Telltale), and they also tried to make it a lot more serious and dramatic near the end for some reason (which isn't what Monkey Island is supposed to be).
I'm selling these fine leather jackets. And thank the Monkey gods there's no Monkey Kombat, that ♥♥♥♥ was whack

**Tales of Monkey Island – Enttäuschung in fünf Akten**
Obwohl ich seit Anfang der 90er Fan der Serie bin, habe ich lange die zwei 3D Teile lange ausgelassen. Nun aber habe ich mich nach langer Zeit rangetraut und auch durchgezogen.
Das Spiel ist aufgeteilt in fünf Kapitel, also ähnlich wie die Vorgänger. Leider ist es bei Telltale üblich, jedes Kapitel einzeln installieren zu müssen (was dank Steam ja noch schnell geht), einzeln die Einstellungen anzupassen, 5 Reviews zu schreiben, die überall gleich sind. Aber damit kann man noch leben.
Das erste was im Spiel auffällt, ist, dass die Steuerung einfach mies ist. Warum kann man nicht einfach klicken und er geht selbst an die Stelle des Klicks? Stattdessen muss man die Figur per Tasten oder mit dem "3D-Laufzeiger" durch die Gegend schieben. Dabei funktioniert das laufen ja auch, wenn man bestimmte Gegenstände anklickt. Die Anzahl der Aktionen haben sich neumodisch auf 1 beschränkt. Also kann man nur noch klicken und wird dann merken, ob es Schauen, Sprechen, Benutzen oder Nehmen war. Aber das ist wohl Geschmackssache. Dafür ist das Inventar unmöglich kompliziert. Statt einfach zwei Objekte aufeinander zu klicken, muss man diese jeweils in ein Feld legen und "Kombinieren" klicken. Umständlicher geht's nicht. Anschauen geht nur mit der Lupe. Und ständig schließt man aus Versehen das Inventar. Möchte man einen Gegenstand aus dem Inventar mit etwas nutzen ist es oft ein Glücksspiel ob nach dem Satz, den Guybrush sagt, der Gegenstand noch in der Hand ist oder wieder neu angeklickt werden muss. Inkonsistenzen ohne Ende. Auch beim Benutzen von Gegenständen in der Spielwelt kann man manchmal einfach mit den Pfeiltasten weggehen oder muss erstmal ins Leere klicken, obwohl man die Figur sieht. Warum das so ist, keine Ahnung.
Technisch ist das Spiel auch nicht perfekt. Sprache umstellen geht nur über Steam und dann ein Update der Spieldateien, was noch zu einem Problem werden kann. Die Auflösung geht mindestens bis 4K, das ist OK. Auch wenn das schon schrecklich aussieht. Scharfe Kanten, aber extrem weichgewaschene Texturen. Ich möchte bezweifeln, dass das 2009 noch Stand der Technik war. So gibt's auch keine Option für Fenster-Clipping - man landet also bei zwei Monitoren gern im falschen und verlässt das Spiel. Leider aktiviert das Spiel auch manchmal meinen zweiten Monitor, wenn ich ihn vorher deaktiviere... ARRRR
Gestalterisch ist alles OK. Fan des Stils bin ich nicht, aber schlecht ist er auch nicht. Musik passt, wenn auch in der Standardeinstellung viel zu laut, wie auch die Soundeffekte, die Guybrush Stimme stark übertönen. Nervig - wie oben gesagt - dass man die Einstellungen mehrfach ändern muss. Die Story ist OK, das erwarte ich von einer Firma, die sich Telltale nennt aber auch, auch wenn es manchmal etwas unlogisch ist. Die Witze sind auch oft ganz gut, manchmal wirken sie leider aber extrem erzwungen. Hier merkt man dann doch, dass nicht genug Herz in das Projekt geflossen ist. Die Rätsel sind oft OK und bedienen sich dem Witz der Serie, aber manchmal weiß man echt nicht, was man tun muss und ist nur einen Klick daneben. Das frustriert schon sehr oft. Noch frustrierender sind aber die Strecken, die man teilweise laufen muss. Hier wird einfach Spielzeit hochgeschraubt durch unnötiges Laufen. Wenn man dann noch gerade an einem Rätsel hängt, ist es umso frustrierender.
Schließlich muss man auch die ganzen Bugs erwähnen - über 15 Jahre nach Erscheinen des Spiels. Wohl auch zusammen mit der deutschen Synchronisation. Letztere wird hier nicht explizit genannt - vielleicht auch wegen der Bugs. Soweit ist es wohl schön, dass man die deutsche Version nutzen kann. Leider haben die Verantwortlichen aber ziemlich nachlässig gehandelt. Da fehlen Übersetzungen, wo man dann englisch liest. In Kapitel 4 muss man eine Datei löschen, damit das Spiel nicht abstürzt. Ich bin in Kapitel 5 hängen geblieben und musste erst auf englisch umstellen, damit ich weiter kam. Aber auch da hatte ich den Bug: "The chest is locked" - "The chest is already unlocked", weshalb ich eine halbe Stunde nochmal spielen musste. Dann ging es aber. Hier scheint einiges uneinheitlich zu sein, da manche Dialoge im Deutschen einfach keinen Sinn gemacht haben. Ob das dann auch im Englischen so war, kann ich aber nicht sagen. Eine Cutscene in Kapitel 3 konnte ich zum Beispiel gar nicht anschauen, da wurde mir nur ein Seehund angezeigt und ich hörte im Hintergrund die Stimmen der Figuren.
Schade, denn großteils hat man sich Mühe gegeben, aber empfehlen würde ich das Spiel nicht. Allerdings scheint das Spiel auch nicht wirklich zum Monkey Island Universum dazu zugehören. Der Nachfolger Return to Monkey Island ist jedenfalls unabhängig davon spielbar und auch besser.
I've been Monkey Island fan since playing original ones on Amiga.
Of course, nothing beats originals, but this was pretty good. Interesting characters, very much Monkey Island atmosphere. And sure, story was captivating three headed monkey. But that you just have to see for yourself!
Recommended to anyone who has itch for Monkey Island! Or from Monkey Island?!
Tales of Monkey Island is an amazing and cozy adventure game! This series consists of 5 chapters, 5 seperate games. As of writing this I've now completed all 5 chapters and will go into further detail why this game has brought back the legendary IP.
At first I was a little sceptical with the 3D environment and WASD controls given my horrible experience with the 4th instalment "Escape From Monkey Island" (monkey kombat, I don't need to say anything more than that) which shares similar controls but Telltale did a great job! You can also play without keyboard but both mouse and keyboard is prefered. The movement felt great apart from a few places where Guybrush had trouble finding the path and you had to spin around until he decided to walk the direction you wanted to but It wasn't too bad.
I really appreciate the approach of smaller maps; some could say these games are easier than the LucasArts ones and it's less difficult to get stuck... and they'd be absolutely right! But I don't think the change in difficulty made them worse; in fact I think Telltale hit a perfect balance between interesting solutions and rage quitting.
The music was, as always, perfect and really captured the spirit of Monkey Island. You feel very immersed in the universe.
The art style is REALLY good and I respect Telltale for the effort into making the characters and maps. It fits perfectly with the IP and it doesn't feel cartoonish for the sake of it. At many moments throughout my playthrough I kept thinking about how genius their game engine is. It feels super responsive and I love the camera angles that switch when you move through different parts of the world. I love that characters stay in their respective positions and the fluidity between camera angles is so unique!
The ending was alright - I did expect more and the cliffhanger was a little annoying but I did enjoy the series as a whole. I haven't played the latest Monkey Island yet so maybe there's some answers awaiting me.

Der kleine Daniel hatte davor mit PONG, Atari 2600 und C64 schon einiges an Spieleerfahrung.

Einer meiner Buddies aus der DAS-SCHWARZE-AUGE-PEN&PAPER-Runde hatte von seinen Geldsack-Eltern frischen einen nagelneuen Amiga 500 hingestellt bekommen.

Junge, was für ein Erlebnis.

Und so spielte ich Monkey Island 1 und 2 bald selber daheim.
Für den dritten Teil stieg ich dann endlich von DOS auf WIN95 um.
Für den vierten kaufte ich mir eine neue Voodoo-3D-Beschleunigerkarte.
Monkey Island war bei mir schon immer ein Systemseller.
So wie für andere Mario oder Sonic oder Star Wars...
Dann gab es Lucas Arts nicht mehr und meine Lieblingsserie schien für immer verstorben zu sein.
So wie Kyrandia und C&C von Westwood.
Aber halt:

Ich habe die Serie damals auf dem iPad durchgespielt und da hat sie mir echt Spaß gemacht - was vor allem an der Touch-Steuerung lag.
Dennoch ist die Spielqualität innerhalb der Episoden EXTREM unterschiedlich hoch.

Dieses Lauschgift reißt stets ein paar Prozentpunkte nach oben und wertet selbst Vertreter mit mauer Steuerung und/oder Optik wieder nach oben!

Auf dem iPad kann man mit dem Finger tippen und ziehen - ganz das Point&Click was es sein sollte.
Hier läuft man mit WASD/Cursor und klickt mit der Mouse auf Hotspots.
Das Inventar mit seinen 2 Slots zum Kombinieren nervt.
Warum kein vernünftiges Drag&Drop?
Oder eine vernünftige Gamepad-Steuerung wäre auch toll.
Irgendwann arrangiert man sich, aber glücklich wird man damit nie.
Vor allem nicht in den Episoden mit elend langen Laufwegen wie hier!
Im Ernst: Das ist mit Abstand die schlechteste aller TALES Episoden.
Aber man sollte sich durchbeißen, danach wird es nur noch besser.

Telltale game gameplay without telltale story.
The puzzles are... alright, but not very interesting and mostly tedious.
Story is as basic as it can be and the jokes might be funny for a twelveyear old.

I've played this Telltale series 2 times before on my PS3 as a child and now, actually HAVING IT on MY OWN computer as an adult is just wild.
Good comedy, amazing characters, peak callbacks. I love how absurd everything is.
Each episode is about 3 hours long and every second is worth it.
Guybrush Threepwood has been one of my favorite characters since the age of like- 4, and replaying this game after years thrusted him back into 1st place beating out 8 different Ace Attorney characters and he's STILL THERE despite it being a few months since i played this now. AUGHHH I LOVE MONKEY ISLAND
Es macht richtig Spaß wieder unseren Guybrush Threepwood zu spielen, die Steuerung mag anfangs echt gewöhnungsbedürftig sein aber man kommt schnell rein und man kann gleich loslegen ohne Probleme. Dann geht es ins Geniale Point & Click über und in den schönen Nachfolger der Original Serie der diesmal in Kapitel aufgeteilt wurde, das gute daran es ist komplett in Deutsch.
If you like fun with Guybrush, Elaine, and LeChuck, you'll like this. I think I've played all the Monkey Island games and have enjoyed them all - Tales of Monkey Island no exception. Seems like I got this on sale, making it all the sweeter, but honestly, I stumbled across this in a purely fortuitous chance encounter... in other words, I was thrilled to see a new Monkey Island, and would've purchased it whether on sale or not. Now... as to the original games, you certainly don't need to play them (I recommend the remasters), before you play this, but the throwbacks and characters back stories definitely would make playing it more enjoyable. Besides, you can never get enough monkeys! Have fun!

Note: I'm writing the same review for all 5 episodes, since they're basically just one game cut into 5 separate titles, instead of one single package.
Tales of Monkey Island, while developed by Telltale Games, keeps the same point-and-click formula of previous Monkey Island games, making it the fifth game in the series, instead of a side title which is typical of Telltale Games.
It’s a decent game, with an interesting story, cool characters, and appropriate graphics and music. It also stays true to the Monkey Island series, although this time each chapter is part of a continuous story.
The puzzles, however, are a mixed bag. They’re a bit on the difficult side, especially because there’s no proper hint system. You also need to walk and backtrack a lot, which gets annoying. The only shortcut you have is being able to skip dialogue. And the controls are meh.
If you like the series, or point-and-click adventures in general, this is something I can recommend on sale, although there are better titles available. I would give this a neutral rating if I could.

Warum kann man einfach nicht dorthin klicken, wo man hin gehen will?
Verschiedene Interaktionen gibt es anscheinend gar nicht mehr. Kombinieren von Gegenständen ist unnötig kompliziert.
Zudem ist die Übersicht nicht schön - warum wird alles so nah hin gezoomt?
Man klickt sich doof und kommt ständig in eine neue Animationsschleife, die man schon zig mal gesehen hat.
Sorry - aber das Spiel ist bei mir durchgefallen.
Not the best, there wasn't any memorable character, but definetely better than Escape from Monkey Island, in terms of playability and graphics. Still I found the puzzles fun and quite easy to solve.

Fantastic set of episodes with some really great jokes. I had to resort to walkthroughs on a few puzzles, sometimes because I was just stuck, but other times because the interface didn't quite make it obvious what I could do to solve something (like the keys at the end of episode 5).
But a really great game for Monkey Island fans.
Tales of Monkey Island is really fun. This is VERY much a puzzle game. Not too fast-paced but not slow at all. My favorite thing about TOMI, is evenif you mess up and go the "wrong order", you can still go back and retrieve something you didn't before.
My hours here are how long it took me to finish this game.
A quick bit of history. In 2016, I bought the Daedalic bundle, at a really good price (a 90% discount). The bundle was definitely an impulse purchase as point and click games are not normally the type of games that I play. To my surprise, many of the games weren't half bad. Since then, I have bought a few more Daedalic games, also at a discount, and with mix results. With point and click games, Telltale games seems to have a really great reputation, so, in 2024, I decided to buy a Humble Bundle of Telltale games, hoping to get similar results (or perhaps even better). Tales of Monkey Island is the first game of this bundle that I tried. This game was chosen for a few reasons. It seems to have a comedic feel similar to Deponia (Daedalic flagship game), and it is connected to Lucas Arts, which also used to make point and click games. So, what is my opinion of this game? And how does it compare to Deponia?
Interestingly, unlike other TellTale games from the bundle, this game is broken into different chapters (as different games). So, this means that I will be doing a review of each chapter separately -- with a general review somewhat copied and pasted between the chapters (and updated as I go along).
Story and puzzles. The story follows a comedic track, very much like Deponia -- albeit, with a lot less cruelty from the protagonist. Also, this game is a sequel to the Lucas Arts series, which I have not played. Overall, I thought it was well done. The characters are very likeable, and the story makes sense (arguable, since I only played one chapter so far). The puzzles are, IMHO, much better than Deponia. Arguably, it is a bit less complex, but the solutions makes sense. Deponia has much more complex puzzles, but they may not make sense. A harder puzzle with a nonsense solution, meant that it needed to be solved by trail and error, which is not good. Hopefully, Tales of Monkey Island can keep their puzzles of this quality in later chapters.
Graphics/Sound. Nothing spectacular here, nor is it expected to be. Definitely serviceable, and almost as good as Deponia. Note that there are a few puzzles that depend on sound, so, you can't play with the sound off.
Controls. Uses Mouse (and sometimes keyboard). No controller support.
Overall, I really liked this game, and very highly recommend it. Arguably, I only played one chapter, but if the other chapters are just as good, I may go back and buy the series from Lucas Arts. Great game.
Note (once I completed all the chapters in the series): This series/season of games are not listed directly on Steam (when searching) -- only the complete season (bundle) is. I guess I didn't notice this before as I bought these games externally as a bundle. And it seems that the review for Chapter 1 is also listed as the review for the game, so, now that I completed all the chapters in the series, what do I think of the series/season of games?
The F4 key -- with this key, the game would highlight what on the screen is clickable. This actually makes the game a bit easier, as you don't have to check everything to see if it is clickable. Interestingly, I had figured this out during chapter 2, and was kinda annoyed at the lack of a tutorial. In retrospect, it isn't that necessary. After some time, you get a feel of what is clickable, and don't really rely on it much.
The animations. Like the Daedalic point and click games, there are animations. However, it is different from games like Deponia, in that the sequences of animations affect the puzzle. You need to do tasks as the events are happening. This makes the puzzles more complex, as you need to figure out both what to do *and* when to do them.
Overall, I really liked the series/season. It is better than Deponia (Daedalic flagship game). The puzzles were simpler, but they made sense. The story was definitely enjoyable. In terms of chapters, I found most of them enjoyable (with Chapter 3 being the slowest/hardest to get into). I highly recommend the series/season, and can't wait to try out the other games in the TellTale Humble Bundle.

Main character is a complete imbecile with really unfunny dialogue. I suppose it was probably a real knee-slapper of a time back in the early 2000s but today it's just the most cringe behavior. Also, the fact that you can choose dialogue options and then the character doesn't say them, or anything even close to the choice you made, it completely absurd. I'd refund this if I hadn't only spent a few dollars on it.
Not having played the most recent game yet, I think I'd rate this as the 2nd best in the series, after Curse. 3D graphic have improved since Escape and plot is probably the most meaningful of the series so far. The only issue is releasing each chapter as a separate game is stupid and they should have never done that.

Yep. This is Monkey Island. If you grew up in the 90’s and enjoyed playing games like Full Throttle, The Dig, and The Secret of Monkey Island then this is a true modern successor to those games.
There may be a campy, cheesy, storyline but the voice acting is good, and the art style is timeless.
The puzzles in line with its predecessors ( often obtuse, strict, and non-sensical) but with the internet that’s no longer an issue. If you get stuck there is no shame in looking up the answer. While this brings back fond memories, anyone who didn’t experience or enjoy 90’s era gaming may be best served skipping the Monkey Island series; Try something like “The Turing Test” or “Pneuma: Breath of Life” instead.
As a side note, this game has 5 chapters that are all installed as individual games? Strange, but this did come out in 2009 while this review is being Written in 2024.
It's a great game, the visuals hurt at first (but you get used to it) and the controls suck (you never get used to it) but the game itself is great. Recommend.

Was expecting a Telltale game like The Walking Dead, since I got this in a Telltale bundle. However this is a point and click with one of the worst control schemes ever. Very unamusing and I will not continue playing, and certainly not the rest of the episodes either.

L'art style tutto nuovo può stunnare all'inizio, ma andando avanti continua ad essere bellissimo e grandioso.
La scrittura mi è piaciuta tanto infatti il nuovo team si sente eccome, anche se rappresenta qualcosa di molto diverso.
I miei episodi preferiti sono stati di sicuro il terzo e il quarto.
Le ost sono perfette, non direi incredibili, ma perfette per un gioco simile.

Je préfère le système à l'ancienne, ce passage à la 3D n'est pas vraiment réussi. Il faut cliquer sur les objets avec la souris et se déplacer avec le clavier (WASD ou flèches).
Mais un fois passé les problèmes d'interface, le jeu est plaisant, c'est agréable de retrouver ce cher bon vieux Threepwood. L’histoire et les énigmes sont sympa :)
J'ai joué sous Linux Mint, les contrôles sont fait pour un clavier qwerty et il n'est pas possible de les modifier.

Escape from Flotsam Island. Fun return to the series, not the best but at £2 for all the episodes definitely worth the price. Funny characters, make sure to use all the chat options to get all the jokes from the game. Mouse movement controls are poor so I'd advise sticking to WASD for movement. Also a couple of random crashes on my playthrough so I'd suggest saving often so as not to lose progress.

I've had this in my games library forever and for some reason never played it until now. I think I was originally turned off by the art style, in the trailer videos it looks quite horrible, not to mention the transition from 2D to 3D. But I finally gave it a try and I'm happy I did.
The art style grew on me and I was used to it a few hours into the first episode. They were doing the best with what they had, I suppose. The voice acting is great -- on par with other the Monkey Island games, retaining many of the same voice actors. The writing is also very good for the most part, especially considering it was not written by the same team, and the overall narrative is creative and worth playing through to the end. Special shout out to Winslow and Morgan, excellent character additions. Also good to see Stan again.
I'd say the gameplay will be somewhere around 18-20 hours for most people depending on how long it takes you to figure things out and how thoroughly you explore everything. The pacing of the episodes could have been better. I thought the first chapter was really solid, the second chapter was fairly disappointing, things pick up again in chapter three, chapter four is the longest and strongest episode, and then it finishes off with a pretty tedious and anti-climactic chapter five. For the most part the puzzles are fairly intuitive and not overly annoying, but a few of them are pretty tedious and un-intuitive. I had no problem referencing a guide to help move things along when something wasn't making sense.
This is definitely a must play if you have played and liked any of the previous Monkey Island games. If you haven't, you may still enjoy it as a standalone point and click adventure.

It's a point and click adventure game which had a brief uptick in the nineties and probably should have stayed there. The humor is pretty good, better than other humorous games. But the problem with these kinds of games is that the solution is always bizarrely illogical, like Grim Fandango, which means you have to repeat actions over and over, which kills comedy.

Tales of Monkey Island: Complete Season é simplesmente uma das melhores experiências de jogo que já tive! A Telltale realmente se superou, misturando humor, personagens cativantes e uma narrativa envolvente que me prendeu do começo ao fim. A história tem tantas reviravoltas e diálogos hilários que é impossível não rir em voz alta.
Tive a chance de portar a tradução deste jogo incrível para o português do Brasil no PS3, e posso dizer que foi uma experiência incrível. Ver como as piadas e emoções dos personagens ganharam vida na nossa língua foi muito gratificante. Cada episódio é uma verdadeira masterpiece, e quem ama jogos de escolha não pode deixar de conferir essa joia.
Recomendo de olhos fechados! Se você procura uma aventura divertida e memorável, Tales of Monkey Island é o caminho certo. Parabéns à Telltale por nos trazer essa obra-prima!

Tales of Monkey Island: Complete Season, is not a personal preference when considering the type (point and click, puzzle) game, nor a script that favours my preferences, and there are zero in-game achievements to accomplish, which had mislead my understanding when trophy guides are available online, perhaps only for other platforms or maybe another edition.
TellTale games, however, have produced some of my favourite adaptions or retelling of stories; The Walking Dead, Back To The Future, The Wolf Among Us (an excellent example of retelling an old story with a new twist), Guardians of The Galaxy, Tales From The Borderlands, and Batman.
These experiences are, of course, subjective, but nothing bad can be stated about Tales of Monkey Island as to the same reasons that my fulfilment of there other games might differ only in the same matters that sway my preferences.
It is very rare for a computer game to make me laugh out loud....congratulations, the developers have achieved this. Without spoiling, I will mention that the scene with the marquis in the third chapter will give you a long-lasting chuckle. I am laughing as I write this.
Overall, the game is good. My only complaint is about the inconvenience I have to go through to try and combine items together. But, it's not the end of the world, and certainly not a deal breaker.

El juego captura perfectamente el espíritu y atmósfera de la saga.
Se ve que la historia y el desarrollo de los distintos personajes se han tomado con el máximo respeto. El humor del juego está muy en línea con los juegos originales, y son capaces de sacarte más de una carcajada. Y lleno de guiños a juegos pasados.
Las mecánicas principales se sienten completamente como un point & click tradicional. Hay algunos puzzles que son un poco rebuscados, pero en general están bastante balanceados y no es un juego difícil.
El formato episódico le sienta bien, pues sigue un esquema similar a los originales, pero hay algún capítulo un poco flojo.
En ese sentido, se ve que a nivel de assets han reutilizado mucho contenido para los capítulos nuevos.
Como punto negativo, el final es un poco anti-climático. Podía haber sido algo épico, pero la forma en que se desarrolla... hace que no aproveche todo su potencial.
A pesar de ello es un juego que ha envejecido bastante bien, con una estética cartoon que encaja muy bien con la saga.
En cuanto a compatibilidad, con unas ligeras modificaciones en el controller layout es completamente jugable (y muy cómodo) en Steam Deck.
Gran voice action, pero es una pena que no esté traducido a español para aquellos que quieran disfrutarlo en su idioma.
Posiblemente el mejor juego de Telltale, y uno de los mejores MI.
