Took just over an hour to beat, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. All of the movement is smooth, I didn't encounter any bugs, and all the abilites feel really great. The level design is top notch, music and SFX are great, and the animations are fantastic.

Whole experience is exactly what I want out of an indie game. I'm not a fan of metroidvanias, but the team did an amazing job all around.

I have mixed feelings about this game.

It's quite fun to play but there are many little flaw that make it rather tedious at times.

1. Way too many pixel-perfect jumps.

2. The backflip shouldn't exist. It should have been a "high jump" upgrade used with the jump button.

3. You can't pause.

4. Chasing after the HP balls that the enemies sometimes drop is a chore.

5. You go through the thin platforms by just pressing Down (instead of Down+Jump, like most other games).

6. There's a missable secret item that you WILL miss if you play normally.

7. There are at least four problems with the maps
a. They don't show the save points (yes, I know that the save rooms have a specific shape but a glowing icon would be much better).
b. They don't show a difference between visited and unknown areas.
c. You can only see the map of the current area.
d. They don't show where the doors lead.

"Super Skelemania" is a very short pixelated 2D metroidvania about a skeleton getting stranded on a foreign planet.

There are only two bosses and it is meant to be played in one sitting and/or for speedrunning (there is an achievement for it).

Presentation- and gameplaywise it is quite charming, but nothing groundbreaking. For a buck or two you get what you want. Give it a try if you like a short scratch for your genre itch!

Super skelemania is probably the best microvania i've played besides sheepo. This game thoroughly impressed me with the responsive controls and genuinly fun movement mechanics. The high jump you can do is really cool as your character does a very nicely animated backflip that has some height to it. But once you unlock the sprint ability the game becomes so much more fun. You can combine these two abilities together to cover vast distances quickly. Something which is used in some platforming sections as well as being usefull for backtracking. Not that you do a lot of backtracking in this game, as it's very short. Despite that the game does a good job of sending you back & forth between its five distinct biomes. The new abilities gradually open these up in proper MV fashion. While there's not that much in the form of collectibles there's still a satisfying use of abilty gating as well as player choice in the order you go. The game's level design is very solid and the map felt both small and large at the same time.

Combat is a lot more basic but this is only a small part of the game as there's no real reward for killing enemies. They serve more as environmental hazards than anything and you can easily jump past them as you gain new abilities. There's also two bosses which serve as a fun way to shake up the gameplay with their retro mechanics and difficulty. The game as a whole is rather doable despite healing being scarce, luckily checkpoints are not so you can keep progressing and unlocking new abilities at lightning pace. There's not much in terms of story but that's not necesary for a game this short and silly. The main character's animations are very charming and so is the pixel art. It's pretty well done, with some nice variety across the five biomes. Music feels appropriate and sound effects are equally charming as the visuals. Performance is stellar and no bugs could be found so it's also technically polished. Finally there's some replayability in terms of a rather strict speedrunning achievement but even as a one & done deal it's still worth it. For this price and quality it's a steal!

Metroidvania très court mais pas dénué d'intérêt, Skelemania est plutôt joli, a des musiques sympas, et des upgrades de platforming bien pensées autour duquel le level design tourne. Pas d'histoire, mais osef. Bref, c'est une ou deux heures d'exploration chill si on ne cherche pas tous les succès (speedrun + "vraie fin" qui requièrent de recommencer le jeu).
Si vous êtes en manque de metroidvania ou que vous voulez juste changer de vos jeux habituels, Skelemania vous fera passer un moment agréable. À vous de voir si ça vaut son petit prix.

Really fun micro metroidvania. Fun to run around really fast and use all the movement options. Not too hard and only two bosses really, but it's fun anyway. The achievements are reasonable and the speed run takes only around 20 mins so the speed achievement is feasible.

A short but fun metroidvania. The bosses are a bit easy. The platforming can be kind of tricky if you're into that thing (I definitely am). My only real complaint is the map is zoomed out so far, it can be hard to make out where you want to go and you can't mark anything on your map outside of turning on the hints. Still the map is fairly large for a short game. The game is also very open right from the beginning too, which is nice. It's very easy to get lost, despite how short the game is. I really enjoyed it.

This is how you do Pixel Art Retro Indies! Created by only 4 people, this is a fun and challenging Metroidvania. It’s minimalistic, but has some charm on its bones. 😋💀 The main game is fair, the speedrun achievement is TOUGH! The quality of the music is best noticed with headphones on…I suddenly noticed one area’s music was reminiscent of DKC’s underwater level! 🏆 Pricepoint is great.

Looking forward to checking out more of their stuff!

Decent 1-2 hour metroidvania. I'd give this like a 7.5/10 overall. I enjoyed the "single sitting" nature of it. Took me 1.5 hours to complete which is nice if you're looking to play a game without a large commitment. As a big fan of metroidvanias, this game was overally decent.

When I think about a metroidvania, I think of 3 things: exploration, combat, platforming. Out of these 3, this game has pretty good exploration, decent platforming, and lackluster combat. Do not get this game if you really need a fix for combat. It feels like any/all combat that's involved is only there out of obligation, but it's minimal and doesn't add anything to the game. Exploration is it's strongest point, which is pretty impressive for such a short game. There is also an emphasis on platforming, and this was a bit hit-or-miss for me. Overall the platforming was acceptable for a metroidvania game.

If you're looking for a short contained metroidvania, then I could definitely recommend this game as long as you're fine with a lack of decent combat. Probably grab it on sale to make it worth it since it does only last ~1-2 hours.

I wanted to leave a neutral review. The game is one of the more decent 'micro'-vania's that I have played.

Movement, exploration, abilities, animation, graphics, sound these are all quite fine.

The bit that I'm most hung up on is that the maps could use some better labelling for the doors to different locations. It would also have been helpful if i could toggle which map I'm looking at, so I can work out where i want to explore next and plan my path.

I've played a few micro-vania's recently, and this was one of the standouts, but my issues with the map did tarnish the experience.

Simply put there are several smooth mechanics in this game and it's always about movement, over anything else. this game condenses all aspects of traversal into something I feel any fan of a metroidvania would also agree that it feels charming rather than imposing.

I forgot I bought this game in a great sale on Itchio.

FYI: This game runs GREAT on the STEAM DECK. Had no issues, just installed and hit play. Didn't notice any issue with buttons or text.

Really fun, very short metroidvania inspired action platformer. Combat is very basic, and hit detection can be a bit iffy, but if you're a fan of metroidvania speedruns, this game is a blast to play. I beat my first run in 52 minutes, and I'm sure that I could bring it down to maybe 30 minutes without much issue.

The platforming can get a little too precise for my liking, but with how short the game is, I can understand why it's made to be so tight. However, any problem I have with the game is overlooked simply by how AMAZING the movement is in this game. The dive is a major game changer, and I'm looking forward to see what other games the dev has made. I really would love some sort of sequel to this game that gave us an even bigger, open playground to use the movement system in it. It's just phenomenal and I hope to see it used in more projects.

This was fun. While I guess a few of the powerups are a bit underused and you get the feeling that there could be a few more setpieces (there's only three pieces of "unique" content thoughout the game), it does provide a tiny dose of Metroidvania. The world gets quite a labyrinthine at first, but traversal never feels sluggish.

The only minor thing that I must point out is that the dive works in a slightly counterintuitive way: most of the time you don't want do activate it at the peak of your jump but rather right away. Some jumps felt janky because of this.

Recommended to buy on a sale, though it's also cheap enough that a full price buy won't hurt you.

I really enjoyed this game. I highly recommend it. I can't help but feel like the "Old Oak Tree" section was inspired by Faxanadu on the NES. I am a huge fan of Faxanadu myself, but whether it's true or not this game kicks butt. The art is fantastic, the animations are great, the main character is super adorable. The level design is tight and the entire world is very well built. The music and SFX fit perfectly with the experience. I cannot wait for this developer to make more games. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Ужасно кривая поделка, не стоит своих денег, даже за 30 рублей. Все механики работают через раз, кривые хитбоксы врагов, нет возможности бить во все стороны, только в 3 направлениях, а враги могут быть вне зоны действия удара и ты получаешь очень глупый урон, кривой левл дизайн, ее вообще кто-нибудь тестил? Все здесь работает через одно место, платформинг ужасен, все в нем неудобно и работает не так как нужно в 9 из 10 случаев, респавн врагов, когда ты на том же экране немного отошел и в совокупности с кривым платформингом превращается в кромешный ад.
Из плюсов, местами игра выглядит симпатично и приятный саундтрек, хоть и не блещет разнообразием композиций.

The game is very short i beat it in an hour and 14 minutes and at times it feels a little empty. However the movement and abilities are good enough that i went back and played through the entire game again to get the skin achievement. The abilties you gain aren't just used in isolation a lot of them have to be used together to overcome platforming challenges, once you get the hang of them they are a lot of fun to use.

The only thing that is a shame is that there isn't more to do, the developer is clearly very talented i wish they would make a longer metroidvania.

Ok honest review here:
The game itself, is very hard to recommend, feels like a half made game, and thats a shame because the game looks great, and mechanics are good and stuff... With some dedication it could have become one of those great indie metroidvania games.

But how it is right now, is not good at all.

I would recommend to buy it on sales, and you will have a nice 1 hour or so metroidvania to play, but you may feel frustated on how unfinish it feels.

I bought it because I play 2 games of the creator that I loved! And those were free, so I decide to buy this one, although this is far from being as good as the other ones.

Look for them they are free to play on gamejolt or something: "Skelemania" and "Super Skelemania" both are great games, and that make this one feel even more disapointing.

I hope the developer one day decide to make a new one, and this time go all the way with it until its finish

Quick Description:
-The developer of Super Skelemania clearly has the potential to create a really solid metroidvania experience, but Super Skelemania doesn't do enough to warrant a recommendation even at the low price point of $5.

What's Good:
-Super Skelemania offer light combat, decent exploration, and about half a dozen biomes to explore. The world is interrconected and checks most of the boxes of a metroidvania.
-The main character has a cute, likeable look and there is some charm in the world that you get to explore.
-Is on sale frequently, so not that difficult to pick up for just a couple of bucks.
-The exploration is probably the most interesting part of the game since there are several powerups to find and each biome has a unique color and offers new enemy types.

Could Use a Few Changes:
-The world feels very barren. There aren't a ton of enemies and most of those that exist offer close to no challenge.
-Most players will finish the game in 1-2 hrs.
-Only 2 boss battles and neither are very interesting or challenging.
-The rewards for exploring the world are only additional health. This is helpful, but it's not very fun.

Thoughts:
-If this were a free game, I could possibly recommend Super Skelemania to ppl looking for a mini metroidvania that isn't too challenging. It's really difficult for me to recommend this to anyone as is b/c there are so many incredible metroidvania's out there, and it isn't hard to get most of them for under $10 during sales. The dev clearly has skills as a game designer, so I'd love to see him create a larger scale metroidvania experience and take what he has learned from Super Skelemania.

Consensus:
-Bottom Shelf Game (Tier 5 and makes up 10% of my reviews). Gato Roboto is only a couple of bucks extra and is a significantly better and more polished game. I'd recommend snagging that one over Super Skelemania.

a "skeleton" of a game.

There is nothing here, I ran around for 10 minutes in almost completely empty bland rooms with enemy's you could completely ignore. My first assumption before i decided to alt-f4 the game was that the reviews must all be fake, but they seem to be legit, not sure how or why this random half baked "indie" game would get so much attention.

This is like the rough outline of a possible game. like 20% of a complete game, an abandoned early access game that was never in early access.

Nice little Metroidvania that's focused more on platforming than on combat. Love some of the abilities you get, and how they allow you to blast through the world much faster as you obtain more of them. Makes backtracking not really a chore at all, since while doing so, you're trying out new movement tricks. Definitely recommended!

Really pretty pixel art, sound effects for making head bonk are quite amusing, the mini challenges for extra health are really exciting, and all the unique moves you learn make just moving around really fun! I felt sad killing the frog. Feels really satisfying when you get all your moves and are strategically and fluidly blasting through the enemies in the tree tower climb.

This is a well-put-together bite-sized metroidvania that features fluid controls, great pixel art, and decent audio. It's more metroid than vania, and strips the genre down to its bare bones (hah!). Very enjoyable for a single playthrough or two.

At the old price of 10$ there's no way I'd recommend this, but at 5$ it's much more approachable.

I can sympathize with the developer in his resistance to the "race to the bottom" for indie devs to slash prices in hopes of selling a zillion copies, but without a ton of promotion of the "good" ones, gamers will continue to have a hard time separating the wheat from the chaff. Steam reviews are helpful but obviously can't tell the whole story. When you've become used to getting well-polished and amazing titles for less than the price of a cup of coffee (Binding of Isaac, Dungeons of Dredmor), taking a chance on a game that costs 10, 15, or even 20 bucks feels risky (I really want to try Dead Cells, and Celeste, but I'm worried that I won't like them, but would feel guilty about refunding). That said, I have paid those sums before and been glad for doing it (Axiom Verge, Hollow Knight, Sundered), it's hard to know beforehand if I will feel like I got my money's worth.

Super Skelemania is a really enjoyable metroidvania that doesn’t contain a single bit of filler content - just purely awesome platforming focused gameplay. My two favorite aspects of the game are the excellent movement mechanics and the wide array of power that you constantly find during the brief ~1.5-hour playtime. I Greatly enjoy this game. I think that it's a great platformer that't short and sweet. I think the old $10 is perfectly reasonable for the level of art and music used in this game and the new $5 pricetag will hopefully get more people into this wonderful game. I hope Ben will keep designing games in the future and maybe expand upon this small yet wonderful world.

The only thing I wish was different is just small quality of life changes that, to be honest, don't really matter at all, like things like the timer stopping when you pause or the map showing the area name.

But over all this is an amazingly fun short game with a lot of cool and interesting challenges. Wish I could have backed it!

Let's get one thing out of the way: yes, it's very short game. I also got a feeling that it maybe needed little bit more length and one more boss.

But spite of it, it's solid and fun game. Mechanics are very good and movement is really [b]really[/b] fast (when you get the items). If you like to speedrun games, this is a great choice. We have a Speedrun.com community for the game too, if you are interested in that some point.

And one thing that many don't know is that, this is actually third game in the series. Previous games, Super Skeleman and Skelemania are free and available outside of Steam (Super Skeleman shows its age, so I recommend playing Skelemania instead).

Casually I beat the game around 45 minutes first time (I think?), but that's because I'm very familiar with this game series and speedrun them. For others, I say beating the game normally takes around 1-2 hours. Not including achievements, I would add 1-3 hours more if you aim to those. Speedrun achievement can be tough and most time consuming, but totally not impossible.

There's not lot of story in this game, I guess story is discovering the planet, getting the parts and getting out of there. It has little bit of Super Metroid vibes because of that (and movement).

Originally $10 price point was bit too high (even though I have defended that, but I now have changed my mind about that). But current price is reasonable, I think it gives enough content for the buck.

Short but sweet is the phrase for this game. It's $10 and my first playthrough took a little over an hour, and under those terms I can understand some apprehension at buying without a discount. Length aside though, this is a really endearing, platform-centric metroidvania.

Really the reason I wanted to write this is because few games in this genre in particular feel so pure. By that I just mean that it feels like Super Skelemania sticks to the core of what it wants to be about - platforming and exploration - and doesn't shoot too far beyond, and because of that what's there feels really nice.

Areas are distinct and fairly visually pleasing, same with the critters who inhabit them. Platforming is robust and it's good fun to interact with the environment once you get the big movement options working for you. Backflipping to shoot up ladders is really satisfying whether or not I can tell if it's an intentional mechanic or a weird platforming physics thing. A handful of the main abilities, backflipping, running and diving, combine for some very fast and fun traversal that I'd love to see a speedrun of.

Overall, the game's real digestible too. There's five medium-sized zones, each with a character upgrade hidden somewhere around that gives you more freedom to explore new sections of map. Finding each of these is necessary (I believe) to going on to find and ring gongs further into each area, which once all are hit will open the way to finish the game. Simple stuff, but effective! The game does end a little abruptly, and I feel like I'd love to see the concepts introduced played with more.

In a sense I guess as much as I like the game, that issue of length does hurt a little, in another world where Super Skelemania is a quick stage-based precision platformer I see it being even more awesome, throw in a level editor and we'd be in for some golden skeleman platforming goodness for long to come, but regardless, a Metroidvania it is, and I like it for what it is. I liked it enough that I jumped back in for a second playthrough, trying out a more interesting progression route for a more human-izing experience. It's nice to have an example that great ideas don't need sprawling, several hour long campaigns to work. Super Skelemania's platforming move set feels great, and its short length highlights this strength for almost the whole duration.

It rattled my bones, in a good way.

И знаете, это не то чтобы никем не замеченный шедевр, это просто приятное приключение на пару часов. Но все равно обидно.

Итак, в центре *сюжета* у нас милый скелетон, который волею судьбы оказался на неизвестной планете и теперь всеми силами пытается с неё сбежать. На поверхности, само собой, никаких летательных кораблей нет, зато есть лифт, ведущий в подземелья, построенные давно сгинувшей цивилизацией...
Ну и собственно отсюда начинается геймплей. В игре представлено несколько локаций, с различным уровнем сложности, перемещение между которыми осуществляется с помощью, уже упомянутых, лифтов. Сами локации приставляют из себя классические, для жанра, лабиринты с врагами, улучшениями и секретиками. Суть проста: находите способность - получаете возможность попасть в недоступные ранее места. Способности открывают различные игровые механики, как например, возможность пробить своим черепом стену, либо вообще оторвать свою черепушку и швырнуть её в узкий проход, прямо как в Stubbs the Zombie (Олды тут?).
Отдельно стоит поговорить про игровую карту, ибо я не могу с уверенностью отнести этот момент к преимуществам или недостаткам. Дело в том, что изначально попадая на локацию у вас не будет карты, поэтому вам придется как слепому котенку тыкаться во все углы в надежде отыскать её. Но окей, допустим вы нашли карту, что дальше? Во-первых, у вас не вся карта, а карта только той локации, на которой вы находитесь. Во-вторых, карта дается полностью открытой (Да, со всеми неисследованными проходами). Ну а в-третьих – на карте не отмечается местоположение способностей, мест сохранений, и различных улучшений. Отмечено только местоположение лифтов и гонгов (не буду спойлерить зачем они). Что мы имеем в итоге? Подбирая карту вы, безусловно, станете лучше ориентироваться в лабиринтах, но уже исследованные места, чекпоинты и местоположение недоступных улучшений вам придется держать в голове. А в игре около пяти локаций и на каждой есть своя карта.

Вообщем вот. Если вам не безразличен жанр метроидваний, как и мне, то очень советую провести свое время за этой замечательной игрой. Можно подождать скидки и урвать за сотку.

As people already mentioned the price is too high for such a small game(and I don't mean just the avg. playtime). Platforming early in the game can be even more frustrating than in classic MegaMan, character feels a little unwieldy due to a rather slow attack animation and having dive on the same button as backflip sometimes made me miss jumps that already were pretty difficult. Other than that it's an alright albeit a tiny game, maybe pick it up on sale.

Nice short game, perfect to play between bigger ones, although it's already cheap you'll have no difficulty to find it on sale, so grab it and enjoy. Only 2 drawbacks IMO, there are too few enemies (bosses included) and it's way too linear till near the end. Still, worth it a night or two of your time.

2時間ほどで一周クリア。タイムアタックの実績が17分ということも考えるとこれでも少し遅かったほうか。
操作性は快適で楽しめたが、ボスは二体のみ、アイテムも必須のアクション追加と体力増加以外は特になしと、ボリューム不足感が否めない。
ヒントの開示タイミング的に二週目での所得を想定されているであろう隠し要素のスキン開放(決まった順で銅鑼を鳴らすことが条件か)は行っていないが、それを含めても定価分のボリュームはないだろう。

メトロイドヴァニアに飢えていて、かつセール時ならば購入してもいいかもしれない

This is a really good, but brief, Metroidvania game.

The Good

The game looks and sounds great. It is one of the rare titles that understands the appeal of pixel art but isn't limited by it. The environments are vast and detailed. The music is very atmospheric and manages to evoke the spirit of predecessors like Metroid while not sounding derivative. The enemies are varied and all have interesting and unique designs. There are even bosses, which is pretty impressive given the short length of the game.

In terms of controls, you can walk and jump. Eventually you gain powerups which allow you to backflip, run, roll into a ball, and eventually fly. Of course, as you find these powerups, it allows you to go back and access areas that were inaccessible before, so that you can ring all of the gongs in the world and make...something happen (you'll see). It sounds straightforward, but in order to access new areas you'll have to get creative with your new powers as the way forward isn't always obvious. A good part of the challenge of the game is about figuring out the right combination of skills to use or performing an action enough times so that you understand the mechanics well enough to allow you to reach something that you couldn't before.

It all works together very well and exploration is fun and engaging because the little world of the game is so well realized and detailed.

The Bad

There can be some frustrating moments when the game asks you to jump across large gaps to exit an area or reach a new area. Although none of these jumps are impossible, the game doesn't necessarily do a good job of explaining the mechanics so you understand how to clear the distance.

Basically (spoilers?) it comes down to understanding that, once you gain the ability to jump and then dive in mid-air, you can dive much farther than you can jump. So, the best strategy is usually to start diving at the height of your jump, even if it seems like you'd be better off by trying to jump as close to a platform as possible before diving. It's a bit counterintuitive, but not game breaking.

The game is also short. Really short. I beat it in a little under 2 hours and I'm sure it's easily beatable in under 30 minutes once you know what to do and where to go. That's not necessarily a bad thing in and of itself. After all, the original Metroid and Super Metroid were both designed to be beaten in well under 2 hours by a skilled player.

However, this brings me to the biggest drawback of this game, which is the price. Currently, as I write this review, the game is $9.99, Full disclosure, I did not pay that much for it since I bought it as part of the Steam summer sale. For what I paid for it, I think it was a great deal, but I would hesitate to recommend the game to somebody at full price.

I feel bad saying that, but I just don't feel like there is enough of a game there to warrant a $10 price tag. For comparison, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon is also $9.99, has multiple characters, multiple game modes, multiple paths, multiple difficulties, and multiple endings. VVVVVV is also a Metroidvania which arguably has just as much content as Super Skelemania and is half the price at $4.99.

Ultimately, value and perceived value are subjective things. And I don't want to make it seem as if the game has no replay value, because it does, particularly if you are somebody who is into speedruns. But, compared to everything else that's out there, I just personally don't feel like there's enough depth to justify the price.

Conclusion

Super Skelemania is a great little game that recalls the best that the Metroidvania genre has to offer and it is well worth your time to play it. However, at the current price, it's up to you to decide whether or not $9.99 is worth an enjoyable, but brief, experience that you may not have much reason to revisit. If you can live with that, then buy it. You will not be disappointed.

Very fun. Very atmospheric. The challenge is in figuring out where hidden secrets are and being quick and clever with your buttons to get where you need to go. It's a short little game, but it has a lot of heart, really cute visuals and cool enemy designs, and great music. All areas feel unique and most are even very original. I'd love to see more like this.

Single sitting Metroidvania is right. 1 hour 20 minutes for me. Fun once through. Maybe again if you want to try and speed run.

Played with a controller (Xbox 360) and definitely recommend with a controller. The D-Pad is required as the slightest downward movement will send you through most floors. The platforming is fun and not particularly hard. It's pretty aimless at the start and takes a few movement upgrades to pick up some steam.

As the description says, a down-to-the-essentials "mini-Metroidvania" designed to be completed in one or two sittings; while the price tag might be a turnoff for those not interested in replaying the game to improve their speedrunning times, what is here is quite pleasant. The pixel visuals are attractive, the controls feel good, and while the map is a bit vague it should generally give you some idea of where to go next; even if you only plan on a single playthrough it's easily worth a pickup when on sale. Hopefully we'll get the chance to see what this developer can do on a larger-scale project; I'll certainly be looking forward to it, if the fates allow.

It's a short game (i beat it in 68 minutes) but it's charming. You jump and skull whack your way through a number of fairly small, but nice looking areas looking for new moves and hp upgrades. The moves, as you'd expect, are shortcuts to get you from place to place quicker, and to open up new areas.

There's a little bit of jank. Specifically doing the higher jump ability while on a ladder.

It's cheap. If you'd like to see some nice pixel art and some cute enemies, and enjoy an hour or so finding your way around a neat little world, give ti a shot. There doesn't seem to be a story of any substance (or any story at all?) but i mean, i'm not heartbroken about it.

Good for the price. Looking forward to their next work.

Ah finally a positive review. This game is a short little metroidvania, and I wholeheartedly enjoyed it. This was a blast from start to finish. And the final boss (there's only 2) is challenging enough to feel rewarding, but not easy enough to breeze through. Sure trying to beat the time trial for this is challenging, but for lounging around when you have a bit, this is a perfect game to pass the time. Highly recommend.

So I have played the previous games in this series, and this one definitely has the most content and most replayability. This game can be completed in an hour or so, making this not a super long game, but a short game thats not too short like some of the other skeleman games. However, theres one main complaint I have about this game, the controls and the feeling of the character. Coming from Super Skeleman to this game is a rough transition, since the method to backflip and to dive are completely changed, making this game hard to get into after playing the other one. I found myself constantly accidently attacking mid air instead of diving, so I had to "reprogram" my muscle memory to have the backflip button to be dive. Also, some people may like that you can dive if you press jump again in mid air, I found it annoying since if I'm doing a lot of jumping in vertical sections, I'd find myself often accidentally diving off of a cliff and that forced me to replay a part of a section over and over again. Also I didn't like how if you held onto a ladder, and held the direction the ladder is facing, it brings you up. Because often I tried to go down a ladder by holding down and the directions of the ladder, and I'd be going up. Minor complaint, but when trying to get the speedrun achivement it was an annoyance. This brings me to another complaint, the speedrun achievement. I think that 17 minutes is a little too short of a time to complete the game. Now I completed the game in 15:59, but I've speedran other games in this series, so I'm used to speedrunning this type of game. But with this time limit I don't see casual players making the achievement. This combined with the unfamiliar control setup made me take a while to get the speedrun achievement, making me more frustrated with the controls and the achievement than the actual game. But the game is very fun and enjoyable, but forcing me to go fast while using controls that are unfamilar isn't that fun. I personally think the speedrun achievement should be raised to 20 minutes, but thats just me. I don't know how one could "fix" the problem I have with the controls since there are many others that may like how when you jump mid air you dive, but I think making such a drastic change in between games in a series was not a good decision. Now I've been beating down this game pretty hard, which I really shouldn't since this game was super fun to play through, and discovering new places I've never been to and using new abilities in old places definitley intrigued me into playing the game. I would recommend this game to anyone that hasn't/ hasn't played a lot of previous games in this series and if you like this type of genre of games. But if you played other games in this series, it's not a full recommendation, but if you think you can deal with the control change, then go for it.

There has been a lot of moaning & groaning about the price of this game. ( myself included ) I just bought the game today, not going to finish it in single setting. Besides the price, I like it. A game like Super Skelemania HAS to have tight controls & fortunately, it does. The difficulty is also quite nice and never overwhelms you.

TL;DR: A Metroidvania compacted into a ~2 hour experience, with fantastic character control and beautiful artwork but some flawed level design.

Pros:
* The skeleton feels great to control. Its moveset is surprisingly reminiscent of Super Mario Odyssey, with a fun dive mechanic and several unique ways to traverse space.
* The character design and artwork is excellent. Each enemy was fun and distinct, especially some of the late-game creatures and bosses. Animations are fluid and fun.
* Each area feels unique and contains some fun and exciting surprises.
* Has built-in features for speedrunning if you're into that.

Cons:
* $9.99 is a bit steep for the very short game experience. While I probably got my $10 worth of enjoyment out of the game, I'm not sure it will be worth it for everyone.
* The level design is...not the best. I found that many platforming challenges tended to be more frustrating than fun and rely on near pixel-perfect jumps, which is a shame given how fun the skeleton is to control.
* A fast-travel feature would have been very appreciated. Since the areas are so small, I often found myself having accomplished every obvious goal in an area and wandering aimlessly between elevator doors to find the next area I was supposed to visit.

Overall, I do recommend this game for fans of Metroidvanias. Even though the level and map design are somewhat lacking, there are several great *moments* in the game that have stuck with me -- encountering the rock-spitting worm enemies, climbing the Ancient Oak, and blasting through walls with the dash ability, to name a few. If you're on the fence about purchasing the game, I believe it is a short but quality game worth its asking price.

great little metroidvania game.
you control a skeleton, in a small-medium sized metroidvania map were you collect powerups, kill enemies, and try to work your way towards you next objective, with your newly collected powerups.

good things
- great responsive controls.
- decent SNES looking graphics.
- heavy on the metroidvania elements. with cool powerups.

bad things
- really short, like 1-3 hours depending on your skill, and if you do a completionist run.
- a bit too easy id say.
- some might say the price tag is abit to high, for such a short game.

This is a fast-paced, distilled metroidvania and I loved it. Every time I got a new move I thought "this is the pinnacle of movement in this game and I'm going to do this forever". Every single time. The controls are unbelievably tight and it's rare for a game feel this good to play. The soundtrack and setting have a Nausicaa vibe too!

Super Skelemania is a short and sweet minivania! I enjoyed jumpin' around as the skeleman, solving some simple puzzles and learning the map for the hour it took me to beat the game. For $10 it does feel a little too short, but you could definitely have a lot of fun trying to get that 17 minute speedrun achievement.

The nicest thing about Super Skelemania is that the developer Ben Allen clearly put a lot of thought and effort into the progression, upgrades, level design, animation and music in the game, to the point where everything feels great and polished. It seems to have come at the cost of length, but I always enjoy games that are laser-focused and don't overstay their welcome. (That said, I am left wanting more!) The bosses are the only element that I think are too simple and could be a bit more challenging, but that might be better balanced on a speedrun.
