Childhood classic, came back in my adulthood to finally get every trophy. Some jokes are a bit dated but the charm aged like a fine wine, even the general gameplay still holds up, for the time considering this was just some old game I remember playing on miniclip for whatever fossils remember that. And the rpg elements hold up really well, all the small ways you can choose to play how you want and of course getting super overpowered late game, there's tons of things to do more than I even remembered. The only real problem is the game resolution even in fullscreen it still displays how it would on miniclip, only instead of a bunch of website ads, it's black bars.

Would I say it's worth 20$, even as a child that was never fortunate enough to have the directors cut (this version), I gotta say no, buy this on sale it's a classic gem overall. But I think a game should know its value, 20$ ain't it. A good 15$ yeah but probably no more than that.

I got the game years ago because I played the OG, but the game does not work well in its current form - and it should not be sold like this. Without tinkering with mods or going through far too many community forums and threads, the game will only boot in a little square, alongside other issues with how it runs. For me, I can just mod it and it's fine, but you shouldn't have to use third-party files and software to get purchased software to work.

This is garbage.

I had a couple weeks between buying this for $7, so I can't refund it anymore, but this is terrible.

I remember loving this game, so I decided to buy it and play through it again, but it's COMPLETELY busted. First of all, I can't save my game. Clicking save and clicking a slot simply does nothing. Other than that, the game doesn't fullscreen properly, and toggling the option instead completely breaks everything, including causing visual artifacts and making UI elements unclickable. Enjoy your tiny 480p window unless you use an external tool to stretch the game out.

Save your money and play the old flash version instead. It's inexcusable to release and sell something in this state, and whoever made the decision to do so should be ashamed.

Good if it was free. 20 Bucks is too much, especially with how much a grind it is. The gameplay isn't stellar and just mush. The extra content added by the director's cut version doesn't add enough or interesting to charge that much.

It usually goes on sale for $5-6 dollars often, but if that's still a ton for you, you can easily just go and play the free version on something like Flashpoint. You lose nothing by doing that (Especially the graphics being the exact same, it'd be lovely if this got updated so I don't have to squint at the screen.)

This game was my jam on bread back in the day

But yeah it's old as heck so there are quite a few QoL things missing. Also I definitely don't recommend paying $20 for it. I got it on sale for $6. I'm kind of surprised even playing it today it still holds up fairly well as an rpg game. Putting the fact that it's stick figures aside it really is just a fun game.

I spent most of my time up til now just exploring the city trying to remember and figure out what the heck is what because it was so long ago I played.

Edit: Wow I'm late to finding out but the founder of XGen studios passed away. He made a lot of games I really loved back then and those old flash days on Newgrounds are some really treasured memories. I still have my really old Newgrounds account that I occasionally log into. RIP Skye

DO NOT BUY AT FULL PRICE
With that out of the way, Stick RPG 2 is a delightful little romp from the height of the flash game era. Originally a browser game, this "Director's Cut" adds in a new region with a fair bit of content, but not nearly enough to warrant the $20 price tag. And if you aren't an old fan pining for nostalgia, there is little here to appeal to you. The gameplay loop and rpg mechanics are about as simple as you could hope from a flash game. There are some decent references and humor from the early 2010s though.

Buy this game on sale ONLY. It is a flash game, and it is one of the cornerstones of my childhood and I still find it fun as a time-waster to this very day. This game has so much personality and the nostalgia of playing on my school computers before they started blocking all the websites makes this one of my favorite games that's on Steam. If you were born after the StickPage era, I don't recommend it, however for those who remember StickPage you absolutely need to get this game.

A classic Flash game preserved on Steam in full. Movement? Slow. Menus? Clunky and inefficient. Combat? Simple, unengaging, and honestly trying to hit anything with your fists is infuriating. By no means does this hold up in the modern day. But also, by no means should you expect it to; it's a Flash game, what do you want? It's good old fashioned browser game fun, a great way to kill a little time and relive the glory days, if you were there for them. I recommend this to anyone who remembers when Flash content was the peak indie gaming experience, albeit not at full price, unless that $20 is really burning a hole in your pocket. If you're too young to remember when skateboarding, Linkin Park, and backwards baseball hats were peak cool, though, this may not be for you.

I only bought this because the Flash game is broken now. I knew exactly what I was getting with this: a flash game just on steam. It is an old flash game. The resolution is bad, the game is outdated, etc. It's a little budget city life RPG thing with some whimsy and fantasy thrown in. And I enjoy that for what it is, but don't expect it to be amazing. Know what you're buying with this.

If you wont play on 480p all the time then dont buy this Game! There is an HD mod ive not tryed out, but i dont pay for a game where i need a mod to play on a normal resolution, wtf. There is no Option to change resolution and they carge this ammount of money for it wow. Its literaly just a cheap import from the browsergame but you have to pay for it.

Iconic and revolutionary for the time it initially came out.
Now, it's kind of trash.
No resolution options without external modding, and the game is not ported out of flash so attempting a higher resolution results in immense lag. A general lack of thought and care when it comes to map design. Wide-as-a-river and Deep-as-a-puddle systems. Plenty of outdated jokes and incel-gamer vibes from some of the dialogue and prompts.

If I was 8 years old again, I'd eat this ♥♥♥♥ up. Unfortunately, there's a lot of games I can think of spending 20$ on that are way better than this. Hell, I got this on sale for 6$ and I still feel robbed. This game needed to swap off of flash and get a lot of QOL improvements before coming to steam, but it seems like the time and effort was not given. It's a shame, because I think this game was something special. It's just not worth anybody's time now.

I mean it's not awful, but I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have nostalgia for it, from playing the old free flash version as a kid, as I did, there's a fair few unresolved bugs (the settings never remember what they were set to, which doesn't help when the music is blasting out your ears and has no volume slider, just an on or off), and obtuse metagame elements which aren't made clear (like I didn't wanna marry the shallow girl who loves strong guys, I wanted to do all the quests, but got locked out of doing the quests for all other love interests as a result of her giving me a watch)

There's a pretty serious lack of basic quality of life features, buying a single item takes at least 3 clicks, buying in bulk is absolutely HELLISH, and if you want to get all the trophies you HAVE to, but the trophies don't even have steam achievements, I don't know if that's better or worse, the inventory is also poorly organised, items you can't discard mixed with consumables mixed with weapons, and the combat leaves a lot to be desired, it feels clunky and imprecise, honestly I really prefer the first game's combat because of that, despite it being objectively less involved and not presenting a challenge in the slightest

I feel like the cheats kind of help to balance the game, and some should absolutely just be on by default, like teleporting to your different houses, otherwise the other houses are fairly useless besides making your walk shorter, this isn't really a game where you need to minmax your to and froms, so being faster is just a quality of life thing, and really doesn't give a technical advantage, it just makes the game more tolerable to get around, while more convenient forms of transport to unlock can be good, and add depth to some games, I just don't feel that this is one, and really the move speed should've been much higher by default

and about the movement
it is god awful
and it's all because of 1 issue

there is no way to make sprint toggled, and to move faster even with the cheat enabled, you have to hold shift the entire time, how miserable for a game where you've got literally no reason to not be sprinting the entire time, I mean why even have a sprint button at that point?

I realise this might sound rather negative, but I still did find this game fairly enjoyable, but I don't know that I would've if not for my nostalgia, I think it leaves a lot to be desired, especially in terms of features, balance, and just the world itself, it can feel incredibly hollow very early on, jobs and their pay have very little to do with their difficulty to obtain, I mean charm is completely insufferable to try and obtain, especially early on, but at least you can just like buy cake to max all your states late game (bulk buying is still horrible by the way so have fun with that)

also some aspects of the game aged really poorly, I mean, you're stuck playing as a guy, I realise that's not a big deal, but this is a stickman game and there are plenty of women in it, it wouldn't have taken a lot to add a gender option, or even a sexuality option since there's love interests, but y'know, this was released over a decade ago, priorities were kind of different, and this was just a flash game anyway, still, it would've been nice (that's the least of it's issues though considering there's a guy called Trump in it, and iirc some dialogue praising him), there's even a kitten exterminator profession, which is just edgy, at least it pays poorly though (and I realise I'm being the exact NPC with the dialogue complaining about that profession, but I'm just trying to make the point that it's aged poorly, since kitten killers are more well known in the modern day, posting their homemade gore online)

I could go on a big rant about the things I liked about this game, the things I'd love to see if it ever got another game in the series (which if it did, it wouldn't be from the same studio, since they kind of died), but I'll just say that despite it's shortcomings, there's a massive well of potential here, and it really deserved to be realised, I miss the days of quality stickman games, their versatility, and I wish they'd return, I'd ADORE a new casualty game, they were so fun to play as a kid, and it'd be great to see something like the Henry Stickman collection, with all the old games put together, as well as some new content

but TL:DR:
I wouldn't recommend this game at it's normal price, wait for a sale, I got it for £5.02 and feel that's a much fairer price for what it is
I wouldn't recommend this game to the average person unless you have nostalgia for this game or games like it
there's a couple poorly aged bits but it's few and far between
there's a huge lack of some fairly basic quality of life features
and some bugs can be incredibly irritating

oh and I almost forgot, the lab doesn't give enough indication that that is the endgame and after you clear it you won't be able to return, that's really irritating so make sure to save before going in there, also, for an end to the game it really doesn't feel satisfying, it's pretty easy even cheatless, and doesn't have much of interest, it feels like they realised "oh we need an ending" and made one which is way too easy to obtain before you're even halfway through the game

while I wouldn't recommend this game, I don't think it's a bad game, I just don't think it's held up, if it had consistent updates, bugfixes, and balance patches over the years, maybe that'd change, but I still feel with exclusively the features currently in the game, it's just not gonna hold up, although there is a bit of a lost charm with games like this which I hope to see recaptured in future

This game is slow. The resolution is low as well.
The resolution can be fixed using mods from github, but the slowness cannot.
The slowness is not lag, because it is uniform.
This is probably due to it being a flashgame.

This game was a staple of my childhood and I remember it vividly.

RIP to the creator of the game and founder of XGen Studios, Skye Boyes and condolences to his wife and current CEO of XGen Studios, Kaelyn.

Skye passed away on October 12, 2015 from cardiac arrest in Vancouver. His game is something that MILLIONS of people from my generation will remember fondly, and I hope that his wife has found some sort of comfort in knowing the impact that he has had.

If you ever release a 3rd game, please put a statue or plaque in the middle of the town square to celebrate the life and legacy of Skye.

Awful game.

Even a browser-based Stick RPG from 2008–2010 was leagues better.

Feels like a totally different team made this. Money down the drain.

Loved this game back in the day. I'm happy to report that nothing has changed on that front! The director's cut content makes things even better this time round. Wait for a sale though.

Not worth it, there's bugs that SHOULD NOT exist for a game that is $20. Even at $6, I would say it's a bit steep

First game review - CAN NOT SAVE PROGRESS!!

With that said, I Love this mf game. Absolute throw back to the original Stick RPG. Deleted 4.9 hours from my life racking up cash and getting huss. I'm absolutely bent that I can't save progress since XGen shut down and you can no longer create an XGen account. Only reason I'd avoid buying this game if it's not on sale.
