This game is literally the best Star Wars game ever played. I played KOTOR2 before 1 on the OG Xbox, I have both games still, the physical pc copy, on my Xbox account library, and Switch. Safe to say you won't regret getting it. I know it only says 129 hours here but I've beaten this game close to 36-40 times.

This might be the hardest review I have ever had to write. To understand my struggle, you need to understand a little bit of context.

I knew before playing this game that it wasn’t finished. But what I didn’t expect was the [i]degree[/i] of the unfinishedness. My idea of “unfinished” is [i]Fallout: New Vegas[/i] or [i]Dragon Age 2[/i]—games with tons of bugs or a rushed third act. This game has both, but the bugs are just the tip of the iceberg.

The real issue is the narrative.

[h2]The Narrative: A Masterpiece Eaten by Rats[/h2]

The best way I can explain the story is to imagine reading the most in-depth philosophical book ever written. Questions pour from the narrative non-stop. You will get confused. You will get lost. But the game wants you to stick through it, promising answers.

[b]The answers solve some questions but add a dozen more for you to figure out yourself.[/b]

If that sounds like it might put you off, I don’t blame you. The narrative asks a lot of the player. But the worst crime of this game is the final arc.

Remember the book analogy I gave you?
Imagine that after all the struggle of reading this book, the final chapter unfortunately has some pages eaten by rats. Then, just as you reach the epilogue, some guy pulls the book from you and burns it in front of your face.

You are left there in darkness as the credits roll, contemplating the hours you put into the game.

[spoiler]The only way to understand what the hell happened is to read an actual novel ([i]Revan[/i]) and play an MMO ([i]Star Wars: The Old Republic[/i]). I am not joking.[/spoiler]

Now, here’s the kicker: [b]even with the restored content mod, the ending still feels unfulfilled.[/b] The third act remains full of holes, they’re just slightly patched up. The mod adds context, but it can’t rebuild what was never fully designed or implemented. You’re still left with a conclusion that feels rushed, incomplete, and oddly detached from the philosophical weight the game built up.

So, I am left wondering if I should even recommend this game. Because despite all the issues I faced, what is [i]left[/i] of the story is incredible. But can I recommend a theme park that is under construction, and then abandoned, just because a few of the rides are amazing?

[h2]Gameplay: The Double-Edged Sword[/h2]

This game is built upon Bioware’s turn-based “live action” combat. You set tactics and actions, pause, and watch the dice rolls play out.

[*][b]The System:[/b] It uses a d20 ruleset for combat and DC (Difficulty Check) for skills like lockpicking. Your stats also determine dialogue options, and Obsidian’s writing shines with subtlety here.
[*][b]The Difficulty Spike:[/b] The combat early on is quite difficult; in fact, I believe it is to the point of being unfair.
[*][i]Note:[/i] I was playing with a [b]mod pack[/b] (highly recommended, by the way) that adds—or in this case, [i]removes[/i]—the passive health regen from the game, making it harder.

The game allows you to build your character in a playstyle you enjoy, and you can use squadmates to fill the gaps in your weaknesses.

[b]However,[/b] this is where the game runs into issues. There are sections where the game pulls you away from your main character, forcing you to play as your squadmates or go solo. When the game forces you to go solo, the benefit of using squadmates as “gap fillers” is lost. Depending on your build, this can be so annoying to get through that it feels unfair. If you have to know what’s coming and build your character in a specific way just to survive a section, that is not great gameplay design.

[h2]Presentation: Atmosphere Over Graphics[/h2]

[*][b]Atmosphere:[/b] Unmatched. With a rather outdated look, the game still nails atmosphere. From the lighting to the ambient sounds, it’s one of those things that proves art direction carries a game over time, despite modern graphical innovations.

[h2]The Most Important Section: The Modding Guide[/h2]

If you are going to play this game, [b]you [i]must[/i] install the mod pack.[/b]

The game is broken without it. I used the [b]KOTOR Community Portal[/b] mod guide. It not only updates textures but fixes a myriad of bugs (including the restored content). That said, temper your expectations: the mods make the game playable and restore missing pieces, but they can’t fix the fundamentally incomplete third act. The ending still feels hollow, and the final arc remains a collection of patches rather than a cohesive conclusion.

If you are willing to install the mod guide and accept that the conclusion will always feel unfulfilled, you will find some of the best writing in gaming history. If you play it vanilla, you will be left staring at a black screen as the credits roll, wondering why the final chapter was eaten by rats.

Otro de los considerados mejores RPG de la historia, pero a diferencia de muchos, este va en serio.

Es difícil hablar del juego en general, cuando hay tantas áreas que destacan: guión, diálogos, ambiente, FX, historia, compañeros de la nave.
Historia interesante, compleja y completamente interactiva con las desiciones. Con detalles que se van revelando de a poco, o más rápido si tenés la habilidades correctas.
Los personajes de tu grupo, no son trabas que se ponen la puerta cuando queres cruzar, como casi todos los NPCs de esa época.
Cada uno tiene una historia compleja, se influencian entre ellos, tienen que hacer misiones solos, cumplen funciones VITALES en la historia.
Es un concepto tan avanzado que avergüenza a los desarrolladores de videojuegos AAA actuales.
Ambientación, música y sonido que te transporta directo al universo. Que lindos detalles que había en esa época.

Superb Game, builds upon original KOTOR, compelling characters, good gameplay mechanics, more complex storytelling, expands on the lore. Best with the TSLRCM mod; best to avoid the M4-78 mod (mind-numbingly boring fetch quests; the juice was not worth the squeeze). A couple of nitpicks regarding Bao-Dur's voice acting came off as awkward, whispery, and emotionally limited. Had a few bugs in regard to movement being unresponsive that was fixed by quick saving and reloading, but the worst bug was the voice lines would skip, especially at the end of the game, had the same bug with the original KOTOR. One last nick pick was just noticing that for as much hate as the dialogue wheel get, I noticed that the text you choose feels like flavor text that ends up with the same responses regardless of choice, usually a lightside response, neutral, and darkside, and maybe a few humorous ones thrown in. At times there is multiple lightside or darkside responses that reap the same influence and alignment outcomes. Regardless, one of the benefits of full dialogue text is that you get the full context and it is less likely that choose unintentionally.

Too ambitious for the hardware and production time it was given. So many bugs need to be fixed, so much content needs to be fleshed out, so much polish needs to be given to its constituent parts, and the combat direly needs more both difficulty and depth. 非常宏大的星战史诗，对原力的讲述充满了神学讨论的况味，主线剧情相当震撼，演出丰富，有几个多视角的固定流程关卡，很有电影化叙事的感觉。
系统上较前代有所优化，不会有角色卡死不动的问题，增加了宽屏显示，优化了操作界面。
不过整体篇幅太短，角色缺少塑造，打完感觉一船人都不熟，整体上是弱于一代的，但是只要玩过一代这一部也不容错过。

This game is an absolute success in my book. The game may have a few bugs, glitches, softlocks, and etc but the game's story, world building, general star wars lore, characters with interesting personalities, multiple choices that truly decide where the game goes, I can't quite seem to genuinely find a game quite like KOTOR 2 in my entire life with the wonky combat, the having to adjust slightly because a container won't open after your character auto-pathed to it and you just ended up standing there looking like a Shutta. All in all, a very unique combat, story, and general movement with excellent attention to detail for such an older game, truly would recommend this to whomever has an inkling of love for the Star Wars universe.

Secondo episodio della serie, molto bello come il predecessore. Personalmente mi è piaciuto addirittura di più del primo episodio, per svariati motivi. Trama più elaborata e intricata, personaggi comprimari meno scontati e più interessanti, sith nemici decisamente particolari e originali, tematiche avvincenti che vanno al di là della solita interpretazione lato chiaro/lato oscuro vista e rivista. La storia del protagonista e l'interpretazione che ne viene data da diversi personaggi all'interno del gioco sono avvincenti e in certi punti mi hanno lasciato con la pelle d'oca. Unica pecca è che sia un prodotto un po' incompiuto sul finale a causa della fretta nel rilasciarlo, e alcuni passaggi risultino affrettati o proprio monchi in certi casi. Nonostante questo, l'ho comunque apprezzato più del predecessore per le tematiche, e avevo già trovato KOTOR 1 un capolavoro. L'ho giocato con la mod per i contenuti ripristinati, se l'avessi giocato senza probabilmente sarei stato meno entusiasta, quindi consiglio di giocarlo con quella.

Solo para empezar, toda la parte en la estación Peragus me parece uno de los mejores inicios de un videojuego que he experimentado nunca.
En fin, he de ser honesto y decir que me gusta más KOTOR II que el original, aunque sin desmerecer a este, por supuesto. Sencillamente, hay algo en la filosofía y en el diseño de esta entrega que me atrapa más, lo cual es mucho decir teniendo en cuenta que todavía no he terminado la campaña. Y no es por pereza, simplemente por un softlock resultado del desarrollo apresurado al que fueron sometidos los de Obsidian para terminar este título... Lo cual para mí hace aún más impresionante que lograsen sacar un juego tan sublime y repleto de matices, por muchos defectos técnicos que padezca. Por tanto, sí, amo KOTOR II, y prometo terminarme la campaña en algún momento del futuro.

It's 2026 and I just replayed this twice (once dark side once light side). That's pretty insane for a game from 2005! MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE RESTORED CONTENT MOD THROUGH THE STEAM WORKSHOP so you get the full experience.

Si te gusta la franquicia desde luego es un titulo que debes jugar, es la razón por la cual a mi me engancharon los juegos de rol de Star Wars y desde luego espero que hagan un remake por que, a desgracia de muchos, este juego a envejecido en el apartado grafico demasiado mal.

lo bueno es que la jugabilidad es bastante fluida y las mecanicas que tiene no son nada complejas, es intuitivo y entretenido, desgraciadamente la necesidad de tener que instalar un mod para rescatar el contenido recortado por el poco tiempo que hubo para implementarlo, tira un poco por el suelo la experiencia.

Si no te importa instalar el mod te aseguro que puedes disfrutar de horas de entretenimiento con este juego.

Uno de los mejores juegos de star wars (si no el mejor) nada que enviarle al uno, para mi esta a la altura y quizas un poco mas arriba del uno es recomendable jugarse con el mod tslrcm para disfrutar sin nada de bugs y con algunas cosas que en el juego original no alcanzaron a integrar

Get TSLRCM (The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod) before playing, since it adds back cut content and helps with some bugs.

Overall, an excellent story. Probably the best writing I've seen in a game. It does build on the first game (play that first). Both games build on Tales of the Jedi (not the cartoon, the Dark Horse Comics miniseries from the 90's... you don't need to have read it to enjoy either game, but the arc with Ulic Qel-Droma and Nomi Sunrider is crucial to the plot of this game). The Knights of the Old Republics comics are really good, but also not necessary to enjoy the games (chronologically, I advise reading Tales of the Jedi, then playing KotOR 1, then reading Knights of the Old Republic, then playing KotOR 2).

Interesting narrative and characters, leaning in a more philosophical direction compared to the black-and-white-nature of the first game. As a whole I enjoyed the original more, particularly its locations and companions, but I could see this sequel offering greater replayability.

I both love and hate that this game doesn't walk you through every single part of the story. You really gotta explore the map, even when it seems very straight forward. Newer games just baby the hell out of you and never force you to think at all about what you're supposed to be doing. Makes the pacing a lot slower, but I've been really liking that. Having so quick save after almost every combat and reload my frozen in place character is a bit tedious though lol

As a massive fan of the first game I had high expectations for this sequel and for now it hasn't disappointed me.
It's the same concept as the first game but their are some quality of life improvements on the gameplay and the story is cool!
I am playing the modified version with restored content and bug fixes called TSLRCM. (MOD on steam workshop)
Just to be warned it is a "talking game" because you interact and make choices, which I found I got bored with at times.
It is basically an old game with a lot of things to do but not so good graphics anymore.
But overall it's a big thumbs up for me!

i have 5 hours on this game, they have all been spent trying to get out of the prologue/tutorial area on various attempts, over the many years i've owned it. This section is the worst, literally just the worst, i have no idea why they felt the need to milk every single problem, stretching out everything to be as long and tedious as possible. This does not make me want to play your game, the prologue tutorial zone brings this game down by 10 points for me, zero redeeming qualities, doesn't matter how good the next 80 hours are when the first 10 feel like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ robot school.
