Don't let the small hours on Steam fool you. This is a game I actually have a hard copy of, from way back when. I bought it on Steam merely to support the developer and Steam itself. This game is one of the genre defining entries that makes single player first person shooter rpgs what they are (or what they should aspire to, instead of Call of Duty or Battlefield slop).
The story is great, like out of an X-files show if that helps put the image into your head. The characters are all unique and fun to discover and talk to. The combat is decent enough, with a bit of jank to be expected from a game so early. But even with that it's leagues better than many contemporary entries into the space.
If you want a game that is a great experience that you'll never forget you should pick this up and play it.

One of the greatest stories that aged like fine wine, great gameplay that blends FPS, RPG and stealth mechanics, great level design that allows the gameplay to shine, amazing soundtrack by the same people who made the Unreal soundtrack, great atmosphere and aesthetics that is semi-futuristic. It does overstay its welcome a little towards the end and has kinda bad graphics though.

К графону надо привыкнуть, да. Рекомендую играть в олдскульном разрешении (HD и ниже) и в 4/3, бустит атмосферу.
Из устаревших механик - только сведение прицела, имхо. Да и оно во многом фиксится с прокачкой.

Если нравится атмосфера X-Files, киберпанк, теории заговора, не текут глаза от игр нулевых - велком, это просто прекрасно.

Лично у меня работает из коробки, кстати, только русификатор накатил.

Deus Ex is one of those games where I kept thinking, “How were they able to make something like this back then?” while I was playing. I had heard its name many times before but I didn’t expect it to be this good until I actually played it.

I’m sure most of you already know what immersive sims are so I won’t explain the genre. Deus Ex is one of the pioneers of it and I’d say it’s still one of the best examples. The game gives you certain abilities that you can improve with the skill points you gain. On top of that, there are augmentations you can install into your character. Once you install them, you can’t remove them so it’s definitely something you should think about twice before doing it.

With these skills and augmentations, you can shape your character however you want. So how does the game support this? Mainly through its level design. The levels are genuinely clever and because of that you’re always looking for the route that best fits your character build. If you’re playing stealthily, you can take paths with fewer enemies but more traps. Or you can just grab the Dragon’s Tooth sword and charge in headfirst. That’s what I did for example.

You don’t really have to worry about whether the character you built is good or not. Of course you’ll have advantages and disadvantages depending on your build but you never feel completely stuck. The game presents multiple solutions to the problems it throws at you and it’s up to you to figure out which one to use. While playing I tried to explore each level as thoroughly as possible and always looked for the route that suited my character best. Because of that I didn’t waste my resources and when I found myself in really tough situations later on, the items I had saved ended up saving me.

You should also try to talk to as many NPCs as possible. The side quests you get from them not only reward you with resources but sometimes provide useful information as well. For example, since my character had a high Computer skill, I never had to look for passwords. But if I hadn’t invested in that skill, I would have needed the notes scattered around or information from NPCs.

I’ve already talked about how diverse the gameplay is and the game also ties this variety into its story. The way you play can affect the flow of the story and the fate of certain characters. The interesting part is that these changes don’t come from simply choosing between a few dialogue options but from the way you actually play the game.

For instance, if you trigger an alarm while trying to rescue an NPC, enemy soldiers can end up killing that character. I didn’t know this at the time, so I failed to save [spoiler] Paul [/spoiler]. There are many more examples like this. Everything I’ve mentioned so far also greatly increases the game’s replayability. I’m pretty sure I’ll find myself coming back to this game in the future.

Let’s move on to the story. Deus Ex takes place in the year 2052, in a world where conspiracy theories are real. The Illuminati, alien research at Area 51, laboratory engineered viruses, those are just a few examples. I absolutely loved this concept. I’ve always been fascinated by these kinds of things since I was a kid and Deus Ex really delivered in that regard. Throughout the game, you constantly question whether the decisions you’ve made, or are about to make, are the right ones. The game’s final really takes this to another level.

Before finishing I want to mention a couple of technical issues. When I first started playing, the game was extremely dark and the brightness setting didn’t work. I fixed it with a simple mod and after that I was able to play from start to finish without a single problem. Considering how many issues old games tend to have on modern hardware, I’d say Deus Ex holds up quite well.

Deus Ex isn’t really a game that can be fully described in a short review like this. Entire books could probably be written just about its impact on the gaming industry. The only thing I can say is this: you should definitely play it someday. It had been sitting in my backlog for a long time and I’m really glad I finally got to experience such a masterpiece.

This game is one of a kind. It is, unequivocally, the best I've ever played. I've been chasing the high since. It is so good that it has poisoned my perception of other games, because in a quarter of a century every new release only shows further regression from this level of depth. If this is an immersive sim, there are no other immersive sims.

People will tell you the graphics are bad. They are philistines, boors with no perception of art. Limited tech forced choices in style, atmosphere- the things that modern lighting engines have stolen from us.

People will tell you the combat is clunky. They are fools, weak minded and lacking in critical thought. Pick a combat skill and upgrade it. There are ways to avoid almost every fight, and when all else fails even the bosses can be insta-killed with a rocket launcher.

People will tell you it's confusing. They are dullards, expecting to be spoon fed the answers with eyes closed and minds at rest. Check your maps, read your notes. Means of egress could be a breakable wall, a secret route disclosed in an email, a keypad locked with the owner's birth date, a 30 foot leap made with your augmented super legs, or the drink you bought for a bar patron.

There are things you'll never see on a first play through. Characters who can survive the whole story or die three missions in, routes you can only reach with the right set of skills.

There is no game like this game. You owe it to yourself to play it.

Fantastic game. As a big fan of Human Revolution it's taken me a while to get around to this one as it seemed kinda daunting compared to the prequel but I was silly for putting it off. It's an excellent game with an unwinding chaotic story that against all odds actually works well. The gameplay is also highly crafted with the level design being so open and free in all the different ways you can approach it, I genuinely think there must be like 10 paths at least on every level which is insane. The RPG mechanics also work super well, with the combinations of augmentations and skills you can pull off, it's just a very technically deep game that's super accessible and has a very gripping story, it's definitely worth a play.

Good game. I played Deus Ex: Transcended version instead, which explains the low hours.

Different ways to go about completing your missions, and a nice variety of weapons and tools are available to use.
The game is a little janky, which is evident when performing stealth, or combat. The skills available allow you to enhance your preferred style of play. What I mean, is that you have to train (spend xp) yourself in certain expertise like lockpicking, swimming, environment (using equipment like ballistic vest or camo) to become more efficient in them. Your aim will go from inebriated drunk at untrained, to getting headshots from across the map with a shotgun at master. Swimming and environment are not very useful, so spend xp on your weapons of choice.

The game is hard when you first start, but gets significantly easier as you collect and install various augmentations. These are very important and some are super OP (spy drone & healing) when you get them leveled up to max. Max level healing and damage reduction augments make you practically impossible to kill, and movement augments give you super speed and jumping, which you can use to make an alternative path of objectives, loot, or to get around enemies.

One thing to mention, is that this game doesn't have objective markers. minimap, or map to view where to go. You are either verbally told (and able to review conversations in notes) or are given an objective to complete and you must figure out where to go and how to get it done. Review your aerial images, conversations, and notes to get login information, keypad combinations, and directions on where to go and what to do.

Fun, interesting environments, great soundtrack, immersive, and some may say that the graphics are ugly, but I think it really adds to the charm and style that the game is going for.

For 7 bucks? Heck yea dude. I finally got around to a pretty thorough playthrough, it took almost 25 hours. That's $0.28/hr right there.

Also it's interesting because some of the things are true in reality (I don't know about the esoteric Illuminati stuff of course (something something Epstein was assassinated to silence him and people think it's funny to laugh about it blah blah)).

本作极高的自由度使得玩家不仅可以选择多种路线过关，更可以选择是走潜行流还是强攻流，我个人非常喜欢这种把游戏的打法交由玩家选择的游戏，要我说RPG游戏就得这么来设计，更难能可贵的是本作极其平滑的难度曲线——敌人的火力升级那么玩家的能力与装备在与敌人交战之前必然能得到提升，使得玩家不用在战斗上面感到束手束脚。开局就把这游戏最强的武器gep gun塞到玩家手里来给游戏的推进作为一个兜底，加上散落在地图上相当多多到正常游玩根本用不完的各类补给以及设计地非常前卫与独特的信息整合系统（便条/地图）都在给玩家传递一个讯息：放手去做，正是这样沉浸式的设计能让玩家在探索时收获更多的乐趣。然而这种设计也并非没有弊端，由于时代限制，游戏初期即自由岛与巴特里公园场景美术颇具初代《雷神之锤》那般的复古感，虚幻引擎1的光影效果不仅没有带来锦上添花的效果反而在很多场景极其伤眼，这使得游戏的场景不怎么让人有记忆点，而游戏的地图系统又不会实时显示玩家的位置，导致了游戏初期的探索往往不会令人愉快，不过场景美术这一点在香港关卡后有显著提升，届时便是这套信息获取系统大放光彩之时。此外明明可以从便条那复制账号密码但却不会记录已找到甚至已经输入过的机关/门禁密码个人感觉也是一个伴随着游戏全过程的蛋疼点
另一个让人觉得蛋疼的地方就是本作的义体系统，但我并不是对这个系统本身有意见，总共20种义体强化玩家可以选择一般来使用，且这些强化的使用率颇高，而这就导致一个问题——游戏中后期玩家探索战斗时要从10个强化里选择其中有用的强化并按对应的按键来使用，即使可以从背包菜单里时停开启强化，其操作也是十分繁琐的。此外连那个跟手电筒一样的眼部义体居然也算作义体强化与其他强化消耗同等的能量这让我有点无法理解，尤其是年度版的游戏还有严重的光照BUG导致很多地方即使把亮度拉满不开手电也看不清，这在前期能量尚不充裕的时候极大拖慢了探索进度
优秀的gameplay无疑是一个巨大的加分项，而让《Deus Ex》无愧于“第九艺术”之名的便是其颇具深度的剧情与精雕细琢的对白（不包括类似“what a shame”“a bomb！”之类的搞耍台词），而且有一个统括背景故事的开场CG真的很cooool！以阴谋论为基底，对人类未来发展的探索，精彩的哲学思辨以及对神学的讨论，这些内容极大地赋予了本作作为游戏的广度，但我还是要说即使是这样本作在剧情上仍存在一个我唯一不喜欢的点，而正是这个点最终让我只给出了9分的评分，那就是本作对我个人来说十分消极的结局，是的，抛开我个人认为很蠢的光明会结局与傲慢的融合结局，那么只剩下十分极端的毁灭结局，这个结局看似有一种“自有后来人”的豁达，实际表达的却是当下的人的无能为力，那么作为主角粉碎了MJ12阴谋从笼罩世界的疑云中“杀出重围”的蛋疼哥应该是如此的“无能为力”吗？我想这些结局是不符合游戏展现给玩家的逻辑的。当然以上观点仅代表我个人，不过话又说回来，评分这玩意本来不就只是个人观点的延续嘛
玩家能玩到《Deus Ex》这样的游戏是难能可贵的，更难能可贵的是这是一部千禧年间问世的游戏，无论是作为玩家又或是作为游戏开发人员都能从这样一部“老资历”中收获良多，如果你没有被游戏的画面给劝退，那么恭喜你物超所值地体验到了一款历史级的好游戏

my vision is augmented

Played the game to see what the fuzz was about it from a few years ago and I must say its kind of a hard game to get into, nothing too complicated alike to 90's to early 2000's games like System Shock mind you, but the modern setup required to not only run this game but interact with its somewhat outdate mechanics can be a bit annoying the first time you play it. It's still a good game however and it has earned its reputation and meme status.

I just like ""Retro"" games like these, especially given the "Cyberpunk" setting which discusses some fairly deep political themes, I also like how dry JC Denton can be, its hilarious yes, probably not intentional but funny, but it also tells you a lot about the augmented state of the protagonist as explained in the game.

Also I can't believe they added ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Arnold Schwarzenegger as one of the characters.

Absolute masterpiece of gaming, easily in my top 5 after completion.
Runs on a toaster, takes some mods to get working correctly on modern PCs.
There are a few games you come across in your lifetime that feel like every second spent in development was to make a game sick as hell to play. Despite losing my save data several times across pcs (careful of steam cloud saves here!) I wasn't as annoyed with it, because the game plays many things out differently depending on your player choices.
I was constantly finding whole new conversations, character outcomes, door/safe codes and secret paths on the same starting missions. They were commented on back at HQ. You never seem to run out of NPCs to talk to, with lots of upgrades and weapons to find. None of it is blipping at you on a hud telling you to complete it, it's purely for you to decide if you care to explore, or if you're fine with picking up some of those things later in the playthrough and blasting the door open with the GEP gun instead.
All that said, despite the game looking as old as it does, you get pretty immersed in it. The story is a wild ride in a great way, being themed around a company manufactured virus+cure, the first years of cybernetic humans, and JC Denton's only relative turning traitor and urging him to join fighting what's essentially the new illuminati.
Oh and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it has a modding scene too.
For 7 bucks, this game is worth its weight in gold. GEP gun for life

The immersive sim. There's not a lot that can be said about a game not only this old and this legendary. That said I feel it deserves a few nice words instead of ranting about how well designed it is I will just say a few things I enjoyed.

Characters, voice acting in this game despite being 26 years old this year the voice acting is well, a mixed bag, if you know this game you've heard JC and he and his brother Paul are stand outs, fantastic work by both actors, however for every antagonist you can get ♥♥♥♥ Asian accents done by random interns, or on the funny side of this kind of flub you can enjoy hearing an old as dude pretending to be a 10 year old boy. And while there are the downside of dated awful accents there are definitely far more good voice acting going on through the game you're in for a ride especially if you try and exhaust peoples dialogue you uncover some pretty funny interactions, well worth the time spent spam clicking on random people in clubs and sewers.

Next on the list is world building, with newspapers people just talking about local governance and so on you get to learn a wealth of information about how the world itself functions. For example it talks about Hong Kong going back to China and experiencing a new booming economy but you get there and there are a lot of local crime gangs making problems for people. It leaves a lot of room for nuance while directly showing harm caused by the politics of the world and how those vieing for power will often roll over the poor humble worker. It certainly does a lot of work to make you think about how your own actions in the game are effecting people as well as your enemies and so on even if it does routinely return to spy thriller antics.

Finally though, map design in this game is phenomenal the lay outs make sneaking an actual challenge but genuinely rewarding to navigate the arenas to complete your objective without being seen. The only downside to the maps in my mind is looking too much often results in you finding key codes or keys multiple times just getting the same information repeatedly, otherwise enemy placement, map layout and so on are always amazing and provide a tense and exciting experience.

Conclusion, games good and lives up to the over two decades of hype calling it one of the greats is well placed. It's definitely got it's quirks that I've neglected to mention such as a severe glitch that nearly broke my game. Hint when you go see Paul in the hotel GO THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR THE WINDOW IS A LIE! And of course just a few little rough edges because 26 year old game, you should go in expecting as much but if you're accustomed to old games like this you know what to do, go look for a mod to make the game function nice with new hardware and grab whatever mods look nice to you and hit the ground running.

Nos encontramos con un juego que llegó a ser toda una revolución en el mundo de los videojuegos. No solo por su impresionante historia y por su estilo gráfico, sino porque acabó siendo la prueba de que se podía hacer algo impresionante con muy pocos recursos. Una demostración de lo que se consigue cuando un juego se optimiza de manera adecuada. ¿El resultado? Una aventura llena de acción, exploración, posibilidades y de larga duración consumiendo muy poco. Con el paso de los años ha dejado de tener compatibilidad para sistemas operativos modernos, pero sigue teniendo un gran número de seguidores que lo siguen jugando y que hasta han creado maneras de que pueda funcionar en la actualidad llegando incluso a ser más grande, extendido y plagado de Mods que lo hacen aún mejor.

La historia nos lleva por varios lugares alrededor del mundo. Hace décadas que existe la tecnología de aumentos y se encuentra al alcance de todos, pero ya no son muchos los que deciden utilizarla. Implantes corporales tanto mecánicos como electrónicos que mejoran las capacidades humanas tanto físicas como mentales. Solo que actualmente está muy limitada y restringida para los civiles quedando principalmente reservada para corporaciones privadas y organizaciones gubernamentales. Las ''Naciones Unidas'' se han convertido en el gobierno mundial provocando que los diferentes gobiernos elegidos en cada país por sus respectivos habitantes queden reducidos a simples intermediarios. El poder del actual gobierno mundial ha llegado a tal punto que hasta han creado su propio ejército personal conocido como ''United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition''. (Coalición Anti-Terrorista De Las Naciones Unidas.) Más conocida como ''UNATCO'' para abreviar. Oficialmente utilizada para todo lo relacionado con la seguridad de los países desde lo más básico hasta lo más avanzado. Policías y militares por igual.

Sin embargo... En esta época se presenta de manera excepcional el siguiente salto tecnológico que deja la tecnología de aumentos mecánicos y electrónicos actual como una reliquia del pasado. Se trata de llevar esa misma tecnología hasta el nivel nanotecnológico y fusionada con la propia biología. Al ser una tecnología tan reciente... Actualmente solo existen dos individuos que tienen esta tecnología implantada en sus cuerpos. El primero ha sido ''Paul Denton'' y el segundo su hermano, el cual es el protagonista de esta aventura y cuyo nombre real nunca queda revelado. Sin embargo... Se lo conoce actualmente como ''JC Denton'' a pesar de que ese nombre es en realidad un nombre en clave que originalmente había sido asignado a Paul y ahora es asignado al protagonista. (Hay quien teoriza que su nombre podría ser ''Jack Denton'' al intentar coincidir las letras, aunque no está confirmado oficialmente. De todas formas se permite al jugador escribir el nombre que tendrá el protagonista de forma libre antes de empezar la aventura.)

El protagonista comienza su historia iniciando su primer día como agente de la ''UNATCO'' tras completar con un éxito total la instrucción en la academia creada especialmente para el reclutamiento de agentes en esta misma organización. Su hermano ya lleva trabajando para la ''UNATCO'' desde mucho tiempo antes y los dos formarán el grupo especial de élite para misiones de alto riesgo. El trabajo del protagonista comienza como el simple caso de combatir contra una peligrosa organización terrorista conocida como ''National Secessionist Forces''. (Fuerzas Secesionistas Nacionales.) Más conocida como ''NSF'' para abreviar. Ese grupo terrorista robó grandes cantidades de la única vacuna existente para eliminar una peligrosa enfermedad que apareció de la noche a la mañana y que está diezmando a la población mundial. La enfermedad es conocida como ''Muerte Gris'' y la vacuna es conocida como ''Ambrosía''. Para lograr vencer a ese grupo terrorista y recuperar la vacuna robada, el protagonista contará con el mejor equipamiento que pueda conseguir y con la tecnología más avanzada a su alcance. Pudiendo incluso atender peticiones secundarias para poder ayudar de forma más directa a los civiles y conocer más cosas. Sin embargo... Con el tiempo irá aprendiendo que debe cuidar su propia espalda aún mejor de lo que ya lo hacía desde un principio. Porque en este mundo todo es posible... Y a veces no todo es lo que parece a simple vista. Incluso puede que acabe descubriendo cosas que hubiese preferido nunca haber sabido.

Incluso en la actualidad sigue siendo un juego muy querido por muchos y se agradece que halla quienes han conseguido que podamos disfrutarlo incluso en la actualidad. ¡Incluso poder hacerlo aún más grande y traducido a diversos idiomas! El juego en Steam por sí solo está solo en inglés a pesar de haber existido traducciones oficiales, pero incluso de eso se han ocupado los mismos que han hecho posible la manera para poder jugarlo en la actualidad. (En guías y discusiones del juego pueden saber como hacerlo funcionar todos aquellos que no puedan lograrlo de manera convencional.) ¡Recomiendo totalmente su compra!

Сюжет просто сік. А якщо гру уважно проходити з першого разу то можна цей весь сік одразу відчути. Але раджу гру декілька разів пройти, полазити по локаціях, пошукати NPC або журнали, щоб зрозуміти світ Deus Ex.

Світ гри дуже гарно прописанний, ви реально можете влипнути в події гри та їх відчувати.

Її графіка є цілком приємною та постійною. Немає такого що одні речі мають дуже сильну детилізацію, а інші нехтують це. Ні це вам не flip asset з ціною AAA гри.

Механіки гри самодостатні, які дозволять вам локацію пройти на власний смак, та самий геймдизайн це закладає в себе.

Головне це досліджуйте цю гру. Бо гру ви реально можете пройти декілька разів різними шляхами, щоб відчути світ повністю.

Щодо сюжетних кінцівок. Ваші дії можуть вплинути на кінцівки, але це не рівень Dishonered. Але на щастя і не рівень CP2027. Щось посередині. Але в грі я можу зауважити, є події які лише пов'язані з однією локацією, а є події які мають вплив через декілька локацій. Логіка гри тримається на локаціях, світ не є відкритим.

Щодо локацій. Вам дається задача, і ви робите її на локації.

Єдиний мінус, це відсутність перекладу оффіціалами. Але є спільноти які роблять текстовий переклад цієї гри.

Сумістінсть гри. Так ця гра гарно працює з під Proton на Linux. Є проблеми коли згортаєш гру, але хвороба багатьох старих ігор накшталт Quake 3. Вважаю що Windows користувачам перейматися не треба, вних гра буде відмінно працювати. Є проблема ще з розширеннями екрану, але якщо вас це буде сильно турбувати спільнота зробила доповнення до цієї гри, яке дозволяє додати сучасні 16:9 розширення.

Баги, вони є, сюжетні баги є, веселі баги є. Сюжетні баги проявляються що у вас буде місія просто вісіти, але на щастя гру ви далі продовжити можете. Щодо веселих багів, то раджу вам гру досліджувати.

За столь непродолжительное время игры уже могу с уверенностью сказать, что понятно почему игра так понравилась многим игрокам. А уже в далёких 2000-ых, подавно.

Проходя новые части я тоже заметил как нынешнее время становится похожим на события игры, в этой игре тоже есть это чувство.

Графика конечно старейшая, дизайн многих вещей, текстуры и иногда звук напоминают "Hitman: Codename 47". Сильно играет ностальгия, хотя конкретно в эту игру поиграл впервые, а первая игра из этой серии была "Human Revolution".
После Deus Ex стало трудно играть в игры, где выбор ограничивается красной или синей кнопкой. Потому что здесь выбор начинается с того, какой навык ты прокачаешь в самом начале, и аукнется это через условно пару часов прохождения, когда упрешься в дверь, которую не взломать, и охрану, которую не уговорить.

After hearing about this game my entire life, I finally played it to completion. Now I finally understand the hype... Deus Ex is legitimately one of the greatest games of all time. It's incredible!

I completed it with the GMDX AE addon, which optimizes the experience without changing the tone of the game, graphics, or structure of the levels. It's a vanilla experience of Deus Ex but modernized (a little bit). My Steam playtime doesn't show it, but it took about 18 hours. I can't wait to replay through it again.

Hermano, por donde empezar tras recien haberlo terminado.
Más allá del hecho de que si bien a este juego ya le vendría bien un remake, sea por el apartado del mapeo de ciertos controles en el teclado, o del algún que otro error,(que aunque casi nunca me aparecieron en toda mi partida), puede aparecer por ahí de vez en cuando.

Aun asi Deus Ex sigue siendo una experiencia bastante recompensante para aquellos quienes le den una oportunidad, (sea que lo quieras jugar en vanilla o con el mod "Community Uptade") pues, por parte del gameplay, la exploración junto con el sigilo y la acción, hacen que casi nunca repitas una sección como lo habías hecho antes, pues el juego a veces ofrecer distintos caminos y formas en las que puedes resolver las cosas, y eso no solo se limita al gameplay pero también a la historia. Porque si no fueron suficientes las crisis personales y las conspiraciones de Kojima en MGS2 junto, este juego ya las lleva más de mano con las decisiones que te permite tomar en ciertos puntos de la historia, generando un impacto que, a buen ritmo, llega su cometido.

Y es que como no dedicárselo tampoco, con ese soundtrack tan bueno que tiene un carisma futuristas del 2000, junto con la geometría y los gráficos de los niveles y los personajes que igual cargan con una identidad y le dan vida a este mundo, y como no, los finales conscientes a tomar.

Definitivamente lo recomiendo, más si eres fan de los half life o Metal Gear, también si estás dispuesto a probarlo solo porque si, porque aunque no sea con mucha exactitud una copia directa de estas entregas, si que toma buenos elementos de ellas y los usa para darse una identidad que, lamentablemente no he vuelto a encontrar en otros juegos.

Immaculate level design, flawless pacing, timeless atmosphere.

The writing will have you in its grip the entire playthrough. The different suave characters feel real and sincere about their motives and their corresponding eccentric voices and varying accents were a treat and contributed tremendously to the world building. Sound Design is quite impressive.

Most importantly, the writing in this game is easily some of the best writing in the medium bar none. Know that your craving for a dense plot and an immersive atmosphere shall be satisfied and some more.

Graphics and everything else I felt were pretty good as everything in the game has so much character and charm. Gameplay, on the other hand, was mildly enjoyable at best. There is a bit of a learning curve initially and at some points in the game you had to almost abuse some of the games systems (the enemy AI, for instance.) in order to prevent yourself from getting frustrated and maintain a good time while playing it.

Which reminds me, word of caution; the game starts off slow. Admittedly, I dropped the game a couple of times UNTIL I passed the 3 hour mark. Make the Hong Kong level your deciding factor regarding whether you should stick to it or give up on it because the HK level ended up being one of my most beloved experiences in any video game. HK was a 11/10 level and ended up being one of my most cherished experiences in a video game of all time. In hindsight though, the game was a blast from start to finish.

I would like to bookend this short review by making it clear that I obviously never played this game or had the slightest idea what it's about prior to this year. I'm writing this review from a purely objective standpoint shortly finishing the game for the first time.

i sure do suck at fps games but the story is really good. That's the only reason i stuck around till the end. If you're bad at the game like me, the final parts of the game are going to be a real struggle with the enemy bringing in an infinite amount of enemys in the final section of the game. I think i was on normal mode too. So I just turned on cheats and enabled god mode just to see all 3 endings.

All I had was a pistol, a machine gun and a sword so i was probably going to get stomped every time no matter what any way lol.

Играется как полноценный современный immersive-sim, я даже удивился что практически все механики и геймплей были уже в этой игре 2000 года.
Несмотря на то, что мне порой тяжело даются старые игры - эта играется вполне комфортабельно, не помню чтоб долго мучался на старте, привыкаешь - и вот это уже такой же deus ex как и последние части, только с полигонами 2000 года)
Сама история интересная, исследовать локации было приятно, боёвка ну я с дубинкой бегал чтоб никого не убивать, разве что однажды из-за сейв-скама попал в ситуацию где либо я базукой убиваю супер мощного врага либо теряю прогресс, соу... с чистыми руками не получилось

Deus Ex es uno de los juegos más impresionantes y sin duda ambiciosos que he jugado, obligatorio jugar el adiestramiento (tutorial) antes de empezar la partida ya que una vez que te suelten tendrás que investigar varias cosas por tu cuenta.

No ha envejecido muy bien pero una vez te acostumbras al gameplay y configuras las teclas se vuelve más llevadero. A pesar de que no suele interesarme mucho el género ciberpunk, logró atraparme hasta el final, la historia es muy buena e intrigante, tocando varios temas políticos, sociales o filosóficos en un mundo semi-abierto dominado por la tecnología y azotado por un virus, todos los niveles tendrán varios detalles y situaciones que podremos y debemos explorar con la total libertad que nos ofrecen, y les aseguro que la exploración puede llegar a ser bastante beneficiosa si estás dispuesto a ello.

Durante la partida seremos libres de tomar las decisiones que queramos, y varias de estas acciones por mas minúscula que sea pueden llegar a tener al menos una conversación más adelante, desde entrar al baño de mujeres o dejar a su suerte una toma de rehenes. Para llevar a cabo las misiones podremos hacer uso del sigilo o ir de tiro contra los enemigos, para ello contaremos con un gran arsenal de armas que iremos acumulando, distintos tipos de munición, herramientas de hackeo, trajes o aumentos que permiten una mayor velocidad, fuerza, resistencias u otras habilidades fascinantes. Además de contar con un apartado de aptitudes que podemos mejorar como la precisión de armas, natación, etc.

Sin duda me sorprendió la cantidad de conceptos que íntegra este juego, una buena historia acompañada de una gran banda sonora y mecánicas impresionantes que me hacen pensar en lo adelantado que estuvo en su época y la poca justicia que le podría hacer cualquier reseña, varios de los temas planteados en el juego aún pueden verse reflejados en las situaciones de hoy en día o son lo más parecido a un futuro cercano.

Para terminar, cuenta con 3 finales distintos que se eligen en la misión final, y aunque no se logran apreciar bien los resultados de estos mismos, podría decir que la batalla final de este juego es contra el propio criterio del jugador para decidir la opción/bando que más le convenza, esto luego de haber sobrevivido a toda una aventura en donde el mayor enemigo fue la constante desconfianza, por lo que dependeremos de la perspectiva que iremos desarrollando desde el primer nivel hasta desenmascarar la verdad sobre el siniestro control que efectúan ciertos grupos sobre la sociedad a través de la tan aclamada tecnología.

Recomiendo totalmente que le den una oportunidad a esta tremenda y única joya que tiene toda una experiencia que ofrecer, bien podría considerarse una obra maestra del año 2000.

P.D. Es necesario instalar algunos parches para el modo español y problemas de resolución, recomiendo el renderer para OpenGL sino no se verá un carajo lol.

Había oído hablar muchas veces de este juego como un clásico y, la verdad, que no me ha decepcionado. Trama muy compleja (a veces, demasiado, con tantos cruces, subtramas, personajes...), infinidad de posibilidades a la hora de jugar y pasarte los escenarios (aunque, al ser un juego tan antiguo, se echa de menos el que los modos de juego tengan más incidencia en el desarrollo...por ejemplo, ir de stealth y no matar a nadie, no supone demasiado más allá de la complejidad que cada uno se fije y que te sobrará multitud de armas y munición), gran ambientación, con diversos finales abiertos y, lo mejor y que más sorprende, cómo ciertas decisiones afectan al desarrollo del juego. En general, no son grandísimos detalles, pero en un juego de hace tanto tiempo, sorprende mucho, para bien, esos pequeños guiños y giritos que desencadenan ciertas acciones, a veces, tan ínfimas. Igual que las líneas de diálogo con personajes NPCs...se nota un gran mimo y atención al detalle.

Cierto que se me ha hecho algo largo en los últimos compases del juego, sobre todo porque he jugado casi todo el juego casi en penumbra (he leído que es un tema de las configuraciones al ser un juego tan antiguo y que no he sido capaz de solucionar), lo cual ha hecho que me costase mucho más avanzar y, aunque contribuía a darle una mayor atmósfera, ha alargado el juego, para mí, un poco artificialmente.

Por lo demás, un gran deleite al descubrir de dónde vienen ciertas inspiraciones de posteriores juegos que me han gustado y poder jugar al fin un clásico.

Lord forgive me for not playing this sooner. I held back on it for too long, and it successfully did not disappoint. You can murder KIDS in this game. Deus Ex lands firmly as one of the best espionage games alongside Metal Gear Solid. I personally have gotten immersed in the story, which proves it holds a legitimate plot & valid art direction, which would've been completely phased out if aspyr’s remaster went to plan.

There won't be another Deus Ex for a while, unfortunately due to Embracer Group, but at least there is still a cult-like relevance over the IP. Human Revolution & Mankind Divided are also worth checking out.

Очень крутая игра! К сожалению, в детстве она прошла мимо меня. Зато сейчас получил массу удовольствия пока проходил её. Игрушка, конечно устарела, но она имеет любопытный сюжет и интересные уровни, которые можно пройти разыми способами. Совершенно не душный стелс. Там где не хочешь, можно скрытно не проходить. Также, мне понравилось, что нет карты и меток, и нужно самому исследовать локацию и вслушиваться в диалоги, чтобы понять, что делать. Хотя кого-то, наверное, такое может оттолкнуть. Минусы, конечно, имеются. Визуально игра сильно устарела. А также боёвка. Стрельба и драки в этой игре вызывают смешанные чувства. Также, по-моему, странное решение дать ближе к середине игры меч, которые почти всех ваншотает...

I played this game for the first time 24 years after its release. It reminded me of what gaming should be.

It’s immersive, it’s complex, it’s exciting. The gameplay systems are intuitive, deep, and just pure fun. The story and the themes it tackles directly, with specific and elevated language, are compelling to an unexpected degree. It’s an effective linear narrative, unfolding within a detailed playspace that will keep deviating your attention with its endless tiny interactions and opportunities for personal emergent adventures.

The writing somehow manages to strike a balance between remarkably clever and amusingly cheesy. The voice acting ranges from all kinds of weird, yet the atmosphere is always immaculate. The music is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ great, as is the sound design. Its rough edges soon become just another thing to appreciate in their weirdness, its unique universe a blend of maturity and camp, always sincere; its almost retrofuturistic science fiction imaginative yet immoveably grounded. All under the moody black sheet of a cool night sky. It exudes sheer love and playful energy, and it bears the obvious traces of passionate, obsessed, human hands.

Despite its obvious limitations, the world feels incredibly real. The environments are sprinkled with little, charming pointless spaces, the NPCs all have something interesting to say. The plot is that of an action movie, and yet earnest tragedy and deeply human struggles lie in plain sight, if you know where to look. There is so much to dig into, so much detail to get lost in and pore over – or, to ignore entirely, if that’s what you want. The game asks many questions and entertains many philosophies, but one stands above all: we are our choices. What do YOU value most?

Give it a chance, it’ll captivate you before you even realise. And you’ll hardly be able to explain why, at least not without delving into each of its numerous, tightly interconnected elements. It is so much more than the sum of its parts. I don’t care that most cities are either under martial law or shady dictatorships, I want to LIVE in this game.

I love it with all of me. Deus Ex may not be a perfect game; but it [i]is[/i] the greatest.

This is might just be one of the best RPG/Immersive Sims ever made.
What this game lacks in graphical fidelity it makes it up in detail, game design, and story telling to the point where the game will actually acknowledge you trying to circumvent it. I am trying to avoid spoilers and I believe you should go into this game as blind as possible .The only drawbacks is that their isn't a modern resolution settings, the default controls need to be manually changed, and sometimes the game uses to many cores on a modern CPU (game was designed in a time when single core CPUs were the norm) so I recommend using a mod like Revision to fix these issues or go into Task Manager to manually limit how many cores this game can use on your CPU (I didn't know that the Revision Mod existed and did all this lol) . Ultimately I still recommend this game, it might just be one of those classics not just for the immersive sim/RPG genre but for the gaming medium as a whole.

There are games that exist that at the time of their release were some of the most mindblowing or freshest experiences around, game that you will hear endless praise for, games like the first Tomb Raider, the first few Assassins Creeds, many old JRPGS like FF1 and 2, Chrono Cross, or platformers like Crash and Spyro, but these games played today don't feel as good as fun as they were. Most of the time its due to the limited controls of the time, technical constraints, or innovative ideas that the industry had not discovered yet(like over the shoulder cam).

Thankfully if there was once something great about a game, surely there has to be a way to resurface what worked about the game, and have it feel fun again, and that's where remasters have come into fold. I appreciate remasters because they let ppl today experience as close to the greatness of when the game was released by addressing dated issues and adding QOL improvements. Games like Tomb Raider remastered improving the controls and save feature, or Chrono Cross by giving the option to end the random enemy encounters that happened every 0.5 seconds, Metroid Prime by giving you actual camera controls etc etc.

What does this have to do with Deus Ex? Well I've owned it for a long time now, and finally decided to dive in. I never played it on release, by I did beat the sequels, Human Revolution and Mankind Divided.

Now to the point, does this game feel dated? This game has not been remastered yet, or the Nightdive treatment, so if you play it, you're playing like ppl did back then. And i've read plenty online that this game needs an upgrade because it feels too dated to be fun or an experience.

I for sure thought I was gonna agree, cause unless its remastered, these games do tend too feel too dated to be fun still, but i''m gonna say so far this game absolutely holds up. The biggest thing holding it back is definitely the art style with npcs, the world and environments are actually pretty neat and impressive when you consider the time of release, not so much the visual flair but just how visual interaction there is, like reflections, screens with video feedback, images, all trying to simulate like its happening in real time, the game does a nice job of trying to be immersive and make the world feel real. While the tvs just actually loop images to give off like its actual real time, but using stuff like the security is absolutely bonkers, not only is it crazy they pulled this off at the time, but how incredibly immersive and realistic it is.

Using the computer functions on the security cams, feels like im using a real computer. You can turn on, off the cams, you can move em in every direction, you can zoom in and out, ALOT, and you can even adjust the speed at which the zoom happens and the camera rotates lol.

The game also has a surprising amount of world interaction, like ahead of time, if you told me Fallout and Skyrim were inspired by this, I would believe you.

The game has dialogue options, that affect the narrative or missions. You can pick up stuff just like in Half Life, Skyrim, and even upgrade to pick up heavier stuff. You can toss anything to get enemies attention. You can open vents, shafts, lockpick doors, hack doors, blow up doors or cracks on walls, find passcodes, find keys, climb vertical spaces etc to get to your destination. Your intel provider usually gives you 1 or 2 suggestions of how you can get to your destination, and than you can find 3 or 4 more other ways to get their too, you can also find secret triggered dialogue events/cutscenes that unlocks another way of getting somewhere. Each route has its own difficulty.

A good example is getting inside Lady Liberty, you can hack your way through the front door, which has enemy alert risk from patrols since the game doesn't pause when you enter menus/interactions(oh yeah mostly everything happens in real time), or you can find the hidden password for the door keypad, or you can find a secret way to climb up the roof, or you can infiltrate through a mid level. And its the same with objectives, you're given freedom and options as to how you want to approach the situation.

And that's something that really stands out about this game, it gives you alot of player freedom and choices.

The game also does a pretty neat job of feeling open-worldish, its not true open world like Skyrim or Fallout but its close to it with its lived in npcs, who go and about their days or walk around, there's stuff like law enforcement who can see enemies and engage them, which you can use to your advantage.

You can do things like lean the camera left and right so you can see around walls and corners, you can use stealth, you can deal with enemies in a multitude of ways, you can pick up bodies, mess with allies. There's experience points you can use to upgrade your stats, you can find augments to give you new abilities, you can mod your weapons, use the environment as weapons, use interactables as weapons like extinguishers etc.

The game simply has alot of depth and honestly don't see why ppl would say this game feels dated? It surprisingly holds up so far. Probably the only other thing that I can say that might prevent you from liking this game, is this, the game has a really big scope, environments are large, but it's can have too much empty segments where nothing is really happening, there's just not enough npcs, or world interactions to justify all the space you can navigate through that really adds nothing.

But you can deal with some methodical passing, you'll love this game like I am right now.

P.S. please remake or remaster this game, or let Nightdive give it their enhancement/remaster treatment.

It may sound confusing to say that when traditional stealth just doesn't work in this game, but here's why it's so fun:

Traditional stealth doesn't work, but what does is setting traps and picking off targets one at a time. Instead of tranquilizing enemies, you need to lure them away or wait until they walk to somewhere alone. The characters may try to say not to kill the enemies, but the gameplay encourages otherwise. Lethal takedowns are always more reliable than non-lethal.

The skills and augmentations are so good. Augmentations give you new abilities and your skills let you perform better with your items on hand. Trying to use a sniper when your level is untrained is a pipe dream, but level your skill up to master and now its god tier.

Hacking terminals or computers to turn the enemies firepower against them never gets old. I also love how lockpicking is handled in this game. You don't need to enter a minigame to do it, you just use a lockpick on an object, and the better your skill level in it, the less lockpicks you need to use. You can also just get past most locks in the game by blowing them up.

I've said stealth doesn't work and since a good deal of the maps are fairly large, this could drag the game down by being sniped from enemies seeing you from a mile away. But the game doesn't have this issue. You have places to hide, different paths to take and even by the first level, you can get a sniper rifle on hand.

The game can feel directionless at times, but the game gives you great rewards for exploring and doesn't just have empty scenery that makes traversing around the world a chore. Talking to npcs can get you good info and trying to explore creatively often rewards you with items.

You can still enjoy this game even now. Though, if you want more modern options, expansions on the world, NG+, then I'd recommend playing Deus Ex: Revision.

I’m genuinely shocked by my experience with this game.

Considering it was released 26 years ago, it’s surprising how many modern games fail to match its level of quality and engagement all the way to the end.

The developers clearly poured their soul and effort into this project, and you can feel it from the very beginning.

If you want to return to the roots and get a truly memorable experience, this game is for you.

This was one of the best Games i've ever played , a true masterpiece of a game like they are fews , Story, Gameplay, music, ambiance ,DA , so much ahead of his time it's funny to compare it to recent videogame industry , you can see that the goldenAge is now Bronze, i intend to play the others but im 98% sure that they don't even come closer to this gem. sad that i didn't play it at the time but hey i was 3 years old so...
