With mods like Thrawns Revenge its a dream
When you begin it is hard to understand how to play in fact I don't even know the ins and outs of Empire at war and when I wrote this I played for 1210 hours the game its self is ok but I would strongly suggest mods like Fall of the Republic for the steam workshop (mainly because I am a clone wars fan) and if you don't like it there are a ton of mods for this game and sub mods like Clone Wars Unchained, No unit cap, codes you can access mid campain and turn them on and off (Its a mod I promise), and so many more fun features. I would suggest watching a video on the controls that helped me allot.
Probably one of the best Star Wars games out there.

I'm 26 years old. I've played and thought about this game since I was 7. I have yet to find a single RTS that i enjoy nearly as much as this one.
I've played this game since it first came out 100 years ago. the various mods add even more to the game. a must have.

Dieses Spiel ist ein Meisterwerk. Es macht einfach Spaß dieses Spiel zusammen mit meinem Bruder zu spielen und ein paar Bots komplett zu überrennen. Das UI ist übersichtlich und verständlich, die Schiffe/Truppen haben Stärken und Schwächen, jede Einheit ist mit einer anderen Einheit klar zu besiegen.
Ich finde lediglich im Gold Pack ist das Verbrecher Syndikat zu stark, das kann man aber leicht vermeiden, indem man einfach nicht dagegen spielt.
Kann das Spiel jedem wärmstens empfehlen! Lediglich die Mods stürzen manchmal ab, wenn man es übertreibt (15 Venator Kreuzer reinspawnen)
Probably one of my favorite RTS games oat. It fits in the universe very well and just feels fun. It's my goto RTS whenever I'm getting someone into the genre. It's not hard with a ton of things to micromanage but there's just enough to have new players get into the vibe of these types of games and it leaves you excited to play more difficult RTS games in the future. Space combat is great though I'm not a huge fan of the ground combat. It is still good. Plus the mods are great.
20 plus years later this game is still kicking, bless the modders for getting extra life out of it.

Esté es unos de los mejores RTS que se han hecho, La variedad de modos con (Galactic Conquest, Skirmish o Campaña) es muy buena y lo hacen extramadamente rejugable. El balance quizá deja un poco que desear... pero es muy divertido.
La mejor parte son los mods, no tiene sentido el increíble trabajo que han hecho los moddders y han logrado hacer que la comunidad de esté juego viva durante tantos años.
Un bonito recuerdo de lo que EA y LucasArts fueron alguna vez.

This is an example of a decent game, upheld well past it's time by a legendary community of modders. Game feels modern, alive, and fresh, and that's crazy considering the OG game it's built off of. For the money, I can't not recommend such an amazing experience.
Amazing and full Star Wars war experience. You get to do epic space battles how you like with staple characters and ships. Not a huge learning curve to be able to play the game enjoyably. Also there is a lot of media about the Mods that I will be trying soon but I believe I will be very satisfied with the mod library!
I have played this for over a decade and still enjoy it. The mods are great.

It's a classic. The very best strategy game in all Star Wars games, to be quite frank, with a great storyline in Forces of Corruption to boot. It's a must have if you enjoy Star Wars or sci-fi in general.

It's the only and most solid Star Wars Strategy game ever made and nothing any modern company or Disney will ever produce will be as good cause they'll ♥♥♥♥ it up with ♥♥♥♥ they stole from Legends and dumbass game mechanics they were inspired by from the various mods.
IMO, this game is great, active modding community keeps it alive and up to date and you can't go wrong with trying the mods.
I recommend EAWX series personally, but there is a lot of good ones on the workshop.

Absolutely worth your time. -- Now, I won't claim to be unbiassed. I waited for Forces of Corruption to come out at EB Games for 2 months back when it was new. Yes, I have nostalgia from the 2000s, and also my rediscovery of it in 2017. However, I will look past the rose tint for the sake of transparancy.
The game was released in 2006, with FoC releasing the following year. As such, the AI can be a bit buggy, and the grapphics can look dated. Player complaints back in the day range from not being able to place structures (partially adressed in FoC), no faction vs itself combat (Fixed in FoC) and lore issues. The first game is based between Episodes III and IV, but there's no sign of that transitional phase anywhere.
The original game's packaging said this was the best Star Wars RTS, and at the time, only Battlegrounds was available for competion. Apparently the fan-made remake of EaW has become the best RTS. So, maybe they just jumped the gun by about 20 years.
Cons: I can't deny it has issues. The first game crashes a LOT with no patch seeming to be able to fix it. FoC needs a specisl RAM patch to run (steam fixed this, but it can still need a few workarounds on some machines, like using the desktop shortcut instead of Steam's launcher). FoC also crashes if a battle lasts for more than a couple of hours, but that's really the only big issue of note to me. The team based colours in EAW 1, I feel could have been patched to Crimson and Blue instead of bright Red and Green to match the Landing Zone capture effect (the stars that appear around them when capturing), but that is a nitpick.
Also the fact that the AI spawns ships above their planets, even when there is no station present is a bit irritating.
Campaigns: All three campaigns are fun and engaging. The voice acting (save for a couple of Rebels in the second game) is decent, and most impressions are on point. I still get that shiver when beating Kessel as Rebels, wondering if it's gonna crash cos my old copy had a bug that ruined that level. Playing Consortium on easy may seem like a cop out, but the feeling of having 3 Canterous Tanks blow their way through an Imperial base while mowing down Stormtroopers is just amazing. The Imperial Campaign is definitely the easiest, and a great entry point to get you started. I personally leave most planets for when I get tanks and AT-ATs to just crush the bases as the Empire would. (Also, there's a bug where the Pirates will not attack you in this campaign. They will defend themselves, but not seek you out when engaged in battle. Not sure if it was intended as some kind of story point, but it does come across as odd, especially since you have missions to do with them). The Rebel Campaign keeps you on your toes, especially at higher difficulties. That first Lvl 5 station on Naboo, and the Star Destroyer that comes from it can really test you if you aren't ready. Don't let all this daunt you, though. The game is loaded with ways to help you get into things. The tutorial (use FOC's because it is the same, but has a few more options), skirmish, and Galactic conquest all function as inconsequential practices with togglable difficulties for the AI. Also, FoC's final tutorial functions as a prequel to its campaign.
Custom Maps: Back in the day, the devs released a tool that halped you make your own maps. They rarely worked, but thanks to the community, they managed to get past the bugs. Not sure where you can find it now, but it shouldn't be too hard to find.
Conclusion: Petroglyph did a great job at the height of prequel-mania to bring about a decent RTS that still, after 20 years, is worth a shot. It wasn't liked during its initial run. It wasn't hated like Jedi Academy was, but it was undeniably seen as mediocre by the original player base (at least, from what I read). However, both of EaW and Academy have become seen as cult classics. Now, with the remake mod out, and the fact it's the 20th anniversary, I'd say now, more than ever, go give it a try. I've seen a few new players trying it recently. Just follow this vet player's advice; play some skirmishes, play a small conquest map, then start as the Empire on easy or medium, just so you can get used to the AI's tricks.
Additional: If you have a very cheap PC or laptop, the textures will load, but it will not let you add the realistic colour effects to units, resulting in highly textured objects, with cartoon stripes on them. (this also affects games with bilinear filtering, duch as Total Annihilation: Kingdoms (1999). Basically, you need a GPU to get the most out of it.

Building an Empire is Great with Mods
If you have an Intel processor, do not bother. The game has a hard-coded check because of Intel's late adoption of shaders, and it never got patched out. So, space battles cannot load. There's an XML file that you can supposedly edit to fix it, but even after going through the steps of getting the fan-made .meg extractor, modifying the file, and setting it up as a mod... it still doesn't work. Unfortunately unplayable.

Was soll man zu diesem Spiel schon sagen...
Das mit Abstand beste Star Wars RTS, dass es gibt. Auch ohne Mods ist das Spiel solide durchdacht und man merkt, dass das Gameplay immer im Focus stand. Es macht wirklich sehr viel Spaß und es ist eine Schande, dass hier kein 2. oder 3. teil erschienen ist. Grafisch ist es natürlich etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber das darf es mittlerweile auch.
Dennoch: Durch die wirklich sehr große Modding-Community gibt es sehr viele, wirklich schon fast professionell erstellte Mods, die das Spiel sowohl grafisch, als auch spielerisch ins Jahr 2026 bringen. Hier gibt es AUswahl über alle Epochen hinweg und je nach dem wofür man sich entscheidet, hat man mit diesem Spiel wirklich mehrere Star Wars RTS-Spiele zur Verfügung, die alle auf dem selben Prinzip basieren.
Wer jetzt denkt, dass die Mods das Spiel nur oberflächlich ändern, liegt jedoch falsch. Einige der Mods sind so umfangreich, dass sie wie Remakes zu verstehen sind.
Auch nach all den Jahren kristallisiert sich immer wieder heraus, dass dieses Spiel nach wie vor unantastbar gut ist.
Both Empire at War and Forces of Corruption have great campaigns, FoC is better narratively speaking, but a bit on the weaker side when it comes to the RTS aspect, the enemy is way less aggressive, even on the harder difficulty. I wish this could be addressed but other than that would highly recommend it, I like surface missions that don't involve massive armies or capturing LZs. Like I said, Forces of Corruption has a strong narrative, a real shame we never got a third installment, they end the game on a huge cliffhanger sadly.

Great base rts or turn based strategy
Como fan de Star Wars durante unos 15 años, este juego se siente como un sueño húmedo, aún siendo ya un juego retro.
El juego base está entretenido, pero como muchos comentan, lo jugoso está en los mods (que puedes descargar desde la Steam Workshop) para poder jugar con aún más vehículos, naves y en diferentes eras.
Se siente increíble liderar tu ejército o tu flota y ver cómo suceden escenas casi de película.
Recomendado incluso si no eres super-fan de Star Wars.
