Climbing endless stairs feels like a meditation on patience, each creak is a tiny applause, and somehow you end up smiling at the absurdity if the steps were made of pancakes I’d never want to stop
Mainly a walking simulator, but there are quite a few puzzles that are very easy to beat. The ambient was absolutely on spot! It's the type of psychological horror that I enjoy.
Has a few jumpscares but nothing too much to the point it would jump on your screen, so we can say they're balanced.
As for the story... started well at first but then I feel like it got all tangled up and less realistic. Did not match my expectations. The ending just made me say "is that it?" so yeah...
Last but not least, BUGS! My beloved bugs! Definitely could have a little more work put into this because not only some achievements are bugged, but also encountered a visual bug when running from a chaser (that pulled up my wtf mode but was quite funny).
Has voice acting but near the end of the game it was simply...gone? Ok then 0.o
Nonetheless, it's worth a shot if you buy it on discount.

Der erste Teil mit Valerie war ja noch cool, auch wenn die Story keinen Sinn ergeben hat (zumindest ohne das Ende) . Der zweite Teil mit den Bergleuten war auch noch ok, auch wenns keinen Sinn zusammen mit Valerie ergeben hat. Aber was zur Hölle war der 3. Teil in dem Dorf??? Als ich dann Türen hinter Türen gefunden habe, wars mir zu blöd.
好玩是好玩。就是bug太多了。希望开发商能把bug赶紧修复一下。首先说一下最易出bug的地方就是最后一个保存点那里拿了钥匙开门后一直往前走走到路灯指引到上坡路那里场景会卡bug不出现没法拍照。另外上坡路没走多久往右转直走前面会卡出只有一个路灯，没有其他任何东西。直到我重进游戏才看到那里是没有路灯的以及上坡路那里走到头是有照片的可以拍照。另外一个就是拍照吊着三个尸体的上面有个可以直接跳下来到这棵树的地方那个高处是有个带有花图案的木块也是有bug不会出现。还有最严重的一个就是最后拍完照才能进去的那个房间转身进去的矿洞相机没有夜视模式，完全靠摸黑。看了好几个人以前的视频那里都是有夜视模式的。而我只能靠摸黑还看不到怪（这个起初我以为是bug，重启之后发现不是）。好在摸黑路不长。不然还真没法过。希望改进一下吧。我能看出来是因为多次的更新导致你们忽略了这一点。
This is a horror-themed Walking Sim. It's psychological, immersive, dark, and suspenseful. There are a few minor attempts at jump-scares, but they probably won't frighten anybody over the age of ten, so I don't think it classifies as a true horror game. There is only one section, in the mines, where "[i]monsters[/i]" will chase you, but they don't see too well in the dark, and thus are actually quite easy to avoid.
In this game, you are playing as journalist Christopher Adams. Starting out, you go to an abandoned factory, where police discovered the body of a girl who had been reported missing a couple of years ago. In the factory, you find a set of mysterious stairs going downward. Of course, as a curious journalist, you want to investigate where they go, and therein the "[i]fun[/i]" begins.
The overall story is decent. The graphics are pretty standard for a 2015 game of this type. The devs are foreign ([i]either Swedish or Danish, I think[/i]), and they forgot to translate a few things, but that didn't slow me down any, so I guess those things were not that important to the core of the story. The ending was pretty abrupt, and unsatisfying. It could have been done with a little more flair and/or creativeness.
The game has several checkpoints, and thus periodically saves itself. If something happens to you, or you leave the game and come back later, you will continue from the last checkpoint you passed. If you don't encounter any crashes or game-breaking bugs, the game should take you 4 to 5 hours to finish. There is no timer though, so you are free to explore at your own pace.
The game plays as you would expect for this type of game. You will wander around ([i]sometimes aimlessly[/i]), solve a couple of puzzles, get a few codes, listen to audio clues, read notes, take photos, and find ways to open locked doors as you search for a way to escape. You have no inventory to manage, as you are only carrying a flashlight and a camera.
There are both trading cards, and achievements, but the game has no replayability once finished the first time. If you are an achievement hunter, you will probably have to play it twice, as some of the achievements are missable. According to the forums, two of them are broken and don't work properly. However, there is a guide for one of them showing you how to force/trick it to pop.
Other people have reported some bugginess and some crashes, but I experienced none of those things myself. The game ran perfectly fine for me. I bought it on sale for only $1.29, and I feel that the hours of entertainment the game has provided was well worth my money.
Stairs is a fairly basic Unreal asset flipped first person horror adventure, one of many hundreds, if not thousands of these glutting Steam. The "developer" paid for/pirated a few Unreal Marketplace assets, arranged them haphazardly in a first person adventure game template, and submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers.
Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, and whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests. The "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, so this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware.
Stairs is an older game from 2015. It's a venerable 10 years old at the time of this review, and, in fairness, some effort went into arranging the assets into a comprehensive story, but it's an incredibly hard sell given the utterly unrealistic pricing on a 10 year old asset flip.
Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the display resolution caps out at around 1440p, there's no support for the state-of-the-art 4K or higher resolutions. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
This kind of asset flipping isn't harmless. It makes it harder for gamers to find genuinely made games from ethical developers. It makes it harder for genuine indie developers, who put hard work into trying to make real games, to find an audience for their products. It gives indie developers a bad name.
So, should you buy this asset flip? Is this better than any of the 110,000+ genuinely made games on Steam? Of course not!
Stairs has the far too high price of $13 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend.
For comparison, the $13 asking price for this game could get you games like "Dead Cells", "SCUM" or "Cuphead". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.

-Sometimes when you load your save or start the game ..it doesn't start and will keep playing the menu background movie...dont worry...you can fix this by pressing "ESC" and press "Restart Last Checkpoint"
-Sometimes if you have a save at the end of the last level, it will not save, and spawn you at the beginning.

The Devs have not fixed these issues...Nor do I think they are still current...and the game has broken since 2015-16 and its up to the people to solve the solutions to a $12.99 game they bought.
Es ist kein Müll, aber Spaß sieht irgendwie auch anders aus. Bis auf wenige spannende Abschnitte war das einfach langweilig und belanglos und ich fange an es zu vergessen, noch während ich das hier schreibe. Preislich ist das für ein 10 Jahre altes Indie Game auch viel zu teuer. Mich wundert es gar nicht, dass dieses Spiel niemals irgendeine Form von Aufmerksamkeit bekommen hat.

Stairs could of been better if they added on check points when you reach certain part of the mine maze, made it controller friendly, and not try to make it all dark all the time no matter how much you turned the gamma up.

I didn't mind this one. Decent exploration and environments, a few interesting puzzles / races, and a nice mechanic in the form of the main controls being equipping the camera, and taking photos.
For a game that is supposedly Action-adventure and horror, the camera being the only thing you can do besides interacting with switches and notes is disappointing. Movement controls feel sluggish and stiff as well, which is not a good mix when the mouse-look is fast and there is no sensitivity option in the settings.
I could have started this review by talking about the four options for starting the game, but you probably didn't read past the fact the achievements are stuffed anyway. I imagine this is why SAM (Steam. Achievement. Manager.) is still a working thing - for situations just like this, so if you already own this game and it's past the point of refund, then that is my suggestion.
So I could type and talk until I'm blue in the face but at this point no one cares enough to read this, so I've decided to write a short story. I hope you like it.

[i]Gible landed in the garden with a thump. It was a typical landing for him, he'd never quite got it right. Folding his wings away awkwardly, he peered around surreptitiously, hoping no one had seen it.
A kookaburra laugh echoed through the nearby trees. It started slow but Gible could hear it getting louder. He made a show of preening his left wing, but inwardly he knew it was too late. Within moments, the sound of several kookaburras laughing raucously filled his ears.
He abandoned his erstwhile preening and glared into the trees. The laughter continued for some time, as other birds swooped in from the surrounding area to see what all the fuss was about. Finally, as the noise subsided, one of the kookaburras made an appearance. It sat proud, appearing to grow momentarily as it puffed its feathers out. The one eye Gible could see seemed to sparkle with mirth.
'Gib, my fella,' the kookaburra said, 'you should know we're always watching you. You and your... landings.'
Gible's eyes narrowed. It was Bagon. Always Bagon.
The kookaburra's huge beak opened with a grin. 'I hear tell Farmer Brown isn't happy with your lot, you better watch out.'
Gible screeched loudly and flapped his wings at him. 'Go away.'
Bagon almost burst into laughter again as one of his friends landed beside him. 'Me? Go away? Bahaha, you're as funny as ever. Farmer Brown doesn't care about us - because we don't eat his crops. Shouldn't you be going? Before something bad happens to ya?'
Gible made a big show of yawning before walking boldly to the edge of the crop. 'I go where I want. I do what I want. No gangster filth tells me what to do.'
Bagon conferred with his friend for a short time, before calling back down to Gible. 'Say, have you seen your flock today?'
Gible paused. 'No, but we cover a large territory. They'll be around.'
'Don't be so sure.'
'What is that supposed to mean?' Suddenly, Gible could feel the eyes of a great many birds watching him, and he felt cold. He looked at Bagon, but Bagon seemed distracted, looking over to the farmer's house. He raised his crest briefly, and Bagon's beak split open in a huge grin again.
'Time's up Gible. For you and all your greedy kind!' Bagon opened his wings as if to fly at him, but a noise from behind startled him. It was the local magpie couple swooping - at him! Gible could hardly believe it. They were always so timid around him and his mates. No matter. As he rounded to face down this threat though, the kookaburras dived. A flurry of more black and white to the right. Magpie larks! Overlapping images of multiple black wings signified ravens to the left. They'd joined forces! A concerted attack by the whole territory!
In the split second he'd figured all this out, Gible decided now was a good time to panic. With a tremendous screech, he took flight again, his great white wings beating as fast as he could to gain altitude, to lift above the threat. With a start, Gible realised he was still screeching - a horrible noise audible for miles. As he recognised this, and as he climbed higher, Gible also filled with dread at Bagon's words. Where were the answering screeches? Where were his friends?

Bagon looped around with his mates and landed back in the same spot. As he folded his wings, he looked to the house. Sure enough, Farmer Brown had emerged. He was fumbling as he clutched the shiny metal, muttering to himself as he stared angrily at the screeching bird emerging from his fields.
'Here it comes, fellas,' Bagon crooned. His mate Shelgon stared in anticipation as the man pointed the metal at Gible. Even the magpie larks seemed to have forgotten their endless feud with the magpies as they settled down on a power line. The ravens had gone already, no doubt off to find some other mischief, or garbage bin to break into.
Finally a sharp, short thunderclap sounded. Bagon hooted in triumph as Gible tumbled out of the sky, his screeches cut short.
Shelgon hooted with pleasure. 'Look! A double rainbow.'
Bagon fluffed up and grinned enormously. 'I feel like chicken tonight.'[/i]

Petit jeu vraiment sympa ! Dommage je suis bloquée au niveau des valves impossible d'aller plus loin et aucune solution sur internet pour ce jeu !
Un sympathique petit jeu d'horreur psychologique à la 1er personne sous Unreal Engine...
S'il démarre assez lentement & est très classique au niveau des environnements avec un hangar abandonné puis des sous-sols etc... c'est au moment où on commence à s'ennuyer que l'ambiance s'installe doucement.
On sera muni uniquement d'un appareil photo qui nous servira dans un premier temps a prendre des photos (qu'on a déjà dans notre journal...petite chose qu'il aurait fallu améliorer vu qu'on sait un peu à l'avance ce qu'on doit trouver...), puis il nous servira à 'dévoiler' des portes etc... avec quelques 'puzzles'/codes à trouver...
Forcément du déjà-vu dans ses mécaniques & il reste totalement couloir, scripté & 100% walking-simulator avec une ambiance qui pourra rappeler de loin les Penumbra/Layers of Fear.
Les seuls ennemis qu'on pourra rencontrer ne seront dangereux qui si on leur fonce vraiment dessus & il sera impossible de leur échapper une fois repérer...
Quelques autres bugs surtout au dernier chapitre, comme carrément le 'mémorial site' qui ne se charge pas sur la dernière map, obligé de rechargé du menu principal...
Divers défauts comme la lunette de vision nocturne qui semble ne pas fonctionner dans la mine avec la touche N mais il faut avoir l'appareil photo ouvert...
Ou certains textes en suédois non traduits (obligé de sortir Google Trad)...
Au final pas super original & simpliste dans l'ensemble avec pas mal de copier/coller dans les décors & un manque de finition à la fin mais il sait se renouveler & étonner sur sa courte durée & c'est appréciable malgré les bugs.

gran juego historia interesante buenos graficos muy buenos sonidos de ambiente mecanicas buenas, enemigos de buen diseño y bastante variedad de areas, puzzles de buena calidad y me gusto mucho la mecanica de ir fotografeando areas que el juego te muestra, ademas el juego siempre te tiene con precion mas en las zonas patrulladas por enemigos o momentos donde giras y ves sombras o siluetas le da un toque inesperado y aterrador
si tuviera que criticar algo es que al momento de morir es algo decepcionante me hubiera gustado que cuando te mata un enemigo te salga un screamer o un grito almenos y no solo que el personaje se caiga al suelo. tambien agregar que el final te deja mucho a la imaginacion y te deja con ganas de seguir jugando pero no hay algun dlc o una segunda entrega.
en general se me hizo un gran juego de terror que no te pide muchos requisitos

The first hour of this game was promising, however the remaining 2 convinced me that this game is not worth anything 3 dollars, if even that. A genuine disappointment. Nothing is ever really fleshed out or explained. Like the game just ends with no closure or anything. Like the dev team filed for bankruptcy 60% of the way through and had to ship what was finished. Saves are inconsistent so if it crashes (it will) you will have to make up 30 minutes of progress. Aside from one VA, the voice acting sucked. 2/10
The game mostly has you exploring the environments, locating and snapping pictures of scenes, solving some light puzzles, and later in, occasionally sneaking past some monsters & some misc activities.

Stairs was an exercise in patience. This due to a plethora of bugs, random crashes and a history that becomes boring in the first 15 minutes. A game that tried too hard to capitalise on the Stairs creepy pasta, but, unfortunately, lacks the stairs of said creepy pasta. Weird as it sounds, the game doesn't feature a demonic stairs leading you to your doom, but features one leading to boredom.
Fair warning, the game crashed 4 times and bugged in the last 10 minutes, meaning I couldn't finish it, and had to restart the game all over again, which, I didn't.
The game runs very well on Steam Deck, although I suspect this is because it's an 8 year old game...

As a player with impaired reflexes I can not recommend this game. There are two running or chase sequences. After many frustrating tries I managed to beat the first one in the mine but then when it came to the second one where you chase the light I end up getting killed and I even though I got to the pole and flipped the switch I still died.

What a boring ass ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. Whats the point of adding survival elements if the only times I could ever die is through falling to my death (In one annoying ass section) or by getting killed in a total of 3 enemy encounters.
This games story is abysmal and all over the place (Specifically because they tried mixing up 3 into 1 (WHICH SOUNDS LIKE A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AWFUL IDEA)). So much of me wanted to stop playing this game like 2 hours in, because that's when I started to realize nothing interesting was going to happen, but I said to myself "No, I gotta finish it", and I did. I played four ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hours of this game, and now that's four hours of my life completely wasted. Four those four hours I slumped down to the back of my chair, my arms stretched to their limits to reach my keyboard and mouse, and I waited so long for this game to end, and when it did I shut my computer off and took a 4 hour long nap, in which was so much less of a time waster than this entire game was because at least I had the energy to do anything else with my life after I woke up.
As much as I do prefer survival horror games to walking simulator horror games, those walking sims aren't bad if the story is actually worth my while (I say that as someone who actually likes Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs). Its too bad this game was boring as ♥♥♥♥, because I actually had an interest in this game since it came out in 2015, I just never played it until recently. And honestly I wished I never played it at all.
If I were to give this game a rating out of 10, I don't even know if I could say 1 out of 10, because I have nothing to complement. Some of my favorite parts in survival horror games (Specifically the ones that are like Amnesia or Outlast) are the monster encounters, and though this game has like 3, they're all the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ same. The developers slap you in a big maze and they're like "Find a way out without getting killed by the monsters" and then you do that. Do they not know how boring and obnoxious this is? They could have made these parts at least somewhat decent, but no.
If the story and gameplay were good I could have given this a 8-10/10, If just the gamplay was good but not the story, maybe I'd give a 5-6/10. But considering that both of those things absolutely sucked, I give this game a "This ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ made me kill a puppy"/10. Boring. Repetitive. Depressing. I want to kill myself after I dry-♥♥♥♥ a dead tree. ♥♥♥♥ this game, and ♥♥♥♥ the developers too. Don't think I don't remember the demo. That ♥♥♥♥ slapped compared to this.
This game is the biggest waste of time. Everything is an inconvenience. Everything is left up you to figure it out. The story sucks. The characters suck. The monsters suck. Don't buy this. Even if it's free. You get one good jumpscare and the rest is a walking sim till you happen to find where you need to go.
The game has a lighting issue that occurred after going in the shelter, i started the game again anew after reaching the mine in the first one but it happened again. The game intrigued me but that glitch simply destroyed the game, and lighting in a horror game thats based off of the darkness and flashlight is kinda massive.

I really thought is was one of the most scary games I have played BUT some achievements are left unfinished which leaves me scratching my head a bit and the ending is some what WTF.

Benzer korku ögeleri ile bir zaman sonra oyun sıkıcı hale gelmiş. Bayıldığım bir oyun değildi, korku seven arkadaşlar alıp oynayabilir. Zaman veya para kaybı olmaz ancak kısa sürede sıkılınabilecek bir oyun olduğunu düşünüyorum.
I absolutely loved the atmosphere and the horror elements. Game mechanics were interesting and cool (even tho gameplay is kinda glitchy).
ONE BIG CON OF THE GAME IS... I've been totally invested in the story but that ending... What was that ending, it's literally zero effort, it felt incomplete. Story was really exciting at the beginning but later the story gets so disconnected and the game turns into walking simulator indie horror game. I'm frustrated...
BTW I hit a game-breaking bug ([spoiler]picking up the last rose towards to end of the game[/spoiler]), I had to restart the game and start over the mission. It took me 5 mins but as far as I see some people weren't be able to proceed, so you might wanna consider it before buying the game.
Overall it was fun, spooky and immersive journey for me. [b]8/10[/b]

I loved it! Very creepy and really emerges you into the game. Taking pictures as the only tool you have is a really nice idea and I wish there were another game made by the developers.
The only "negative" thing imo was that it was very little to interact with and a lot of walking, but it was fine here because of the atmosphere. I didn't really think about it too much when playing but afterwards that would be something to add :)

The atmosphere, pacing, locations, visuals, audio and gameplay are just generally done really well.
This is one of those games i genuinely don't wanna play alone with my headphones on, and i will look away at certain scary parts. It is unsettling af.
[b]Why is it so scary ?[/b] Because a lot of times nothing really happens and if something does happen, it rarely jumps out on you, so the tension keeps building. There is no relief. The scary noises continue. the room leads into another creepy room. The game plays brilliantly with it's horror aspects.
The game is divided into 3 parts. Each one with a new location and a new evil.
The first part is by far the strongest and deserves a 5/5 on it's own. Unfortunately, there is the second and third part which are good, but not nearly as great as the first one is.
It IS a walking sim, but a very engaging and clever one. The gameplay rarely gets boring. There is even a puzzle or two in each section. And the puzzles are for the most part fun to do and not super easy.

Bought the game for really cheap I think it costed just Rs.26/- during the christmas discount. This game doesn't have many jumpscares or anything. I got very sleepy playing at night and dozed off. It's literally that boring. I'd suggest not buying it, and if you do plan on buying it, buy it while its on a discount. Overall I think this game could've had potential, but the screenplay isn't executed properly enough to keep the player engaged.
It's a decent horror game at its finest.

Ich hatte mit diesem Spiel viel Spaß und kann es nur weiterempfehlen.
Die Atmosphäre, die aufgebaut wird, ist teilweise erdrückend und düster und die Musikkulisse lässt einem alleine schon eine Gänsehaut über den Rücken laufen.
Das Spiel beginnt ganz klassisch, da wir als Journalist ein paar Fotos an einen Tatort machen wollen, aber sehr schnell schlägt die Stimmung des Spiels um und treibt einen von einem Szenario ins nächste. Oder von einem Fiebertraum in den nächsten, wie einer meiner Zuschauer sagte. :)
Die verschiedenen "Level" sind sehr unterschiedlich gestaltet, was eine schöne Abwechslung bietet.
Und bei den "Monstern" fühlte ich mich an verschiedene Filme erinnert, was ja aber nicht schlecht sein muss,. Auch die unterschiedlichen Rätzel sind mal mehr und mal weniger anspruchsvoll, aber nicht frustrierend, auch wenn man mehrere Anläufe braucht.
Ich hatte leider mit ein paar Bugs und zwei Spielabstürzen zu kämpfen, was aber dem Spielspaß im Endeffekt nicht geschadet hat.
Die Story, die erzählt wird, war zumindest für mich etwas undurchsichtig und wird auch nicht wirklich endgültig erklärt, was aber durchaus einen gewissen Charme ausmacht und ich muss zugeben, dass ich das Spiel auch noch einmal durchspielen werde, da ich nicht alle Aufgaben erfüllt habe.
Im Großen und Ganzen ein spanendes, düsteres Spiel mit großartiger Atmosphäre und kreativer Geschichte. Die Musik / Geräuschkulisse war mein persönliches Highlight.

I had a lot of fun with this game and can only recommend it.
The atmosphere that is built up is partly oppressive and gloomy and the musical backdrop alone sends goosebumps down your spine.
The game starts off quite classically, as we want to take a few photos at a crime scene as a journalist, but very quickly the mood of the game changes and drives you from one scenario to the next. Or from one fever dream to the next, as one of my viewers said. :)
The different "levels" are designed very differently, which offers a nice variety.
And with the "monsters" I felt reminded of different movies, which doesn't have to be bad.
And the riddles are sometimes more and sometimes less challenging, but not frustrating, even if you need several attempts.
Unfortunately, I had to deal with a few bugs and two game crashes, but that didn't detract from the game's enjoyment in the end.
The story that is told was a bit opaque, at least for me, and is also not really definitively explained, but this does add a certain charm and I must admit that I will also play the game again, since I did not complete all the tasks.
Overall, a thrilling, gritty game with great atmosphere and creative story. The music / soundscape was my personal highlight.
Well, it's not bad.....but it's not good either. Damn it all, it had some serious potential; the graphics were decent, the music was creepy, and the tension/horror/scares were awesome. So, what went wrong?
-Positives- Graphics, music, scares/atmosphere, and some really neat puzzles to solve.
-Negatives-
Dialogue/writing: Trite and banal, never above so-so
Voice Acting: Just complete and utter ♥♥♥♥♥.....really bad...
Plot: Disjointed and nonsensical once you get past the first couple of chapters. I'm getting tired of "it's all in the head of a demented protagonist", and this turns out to be just that, but it doesn't even explain how it all fits together. It's just a dog's breakfast......
Bugs/Game Issues: There's some serious texture pop-in in the latter chapters, and it is entirely possible to rarely get hung up on the environment.
Achievements: There are a few that are completely broken, so you'll never 100% unless you use S.A.M.
So, in the end, despite some truly great scares and atmosphere, and a few very clever and never-before-seen puzzles, this scary first person horror game/walking simulator just completely falls apart from a plot perspective.
Sorry, but while I did enjoy large sections of it, I ultimately can't recommend it.
Boring AF
If you're a devotee of walking sim horror, then this is an ok timewaster. There are some reasons that I can't wholeheartedly recommend, though.
1. The puzzles are very opaque (with the exception of one mechanical puzzle, which was fun). I 'solved' one through accidental reflex twitch and another through sheer blind poking.
2. The story is on the thin side.
However, one thing I really like is the way the narrative subverts traditional horror games built on the 'Amnesia/Layers of Fear' model. The way in which the protagonist is engaged in a puzzle, and then, oops no biscuit because this really isn't the puzzle you think it is, actually works well. It makes for some creepy moments. On the whole, 7/10.
I recommend manually backing up your save games file every once in a while, because I lost my save game due to save-corruption after an hour in the first time around. Second time around I finished it with no issues.
Otherwise: awesome atmospheric psychological horror with some really unique effects I've never see anywhere before (like the long light flashes).
"Stairs" ist ein First-Person Horror-Exploration Spiel.
Ein Mord ist geschehen. Die strangulierte Leiche einer jungen Frau ist in einem Fabrikgebäude gefunden worden. Wie sich herausstellt, ist die junge Frau zusammen mit zwei Männern bereits seit drei Jahren vermißt gemeldet. Haben die beiden Männer die junge Frau umgebracht oder sind sie selber Opfer?
Wir sind Journalist und machen uns mit unserer Kamera bewaffnet auf den Weg zu der alten Fabrik. Vielleicht verbirgt sich ja eine größere Story hinter den Ereignissen. In der Fabrik finden wir einen Schacht, in dem Treppen nach unten führen. Ins Ungewisse, aber auch zu den Antworten auf unsere Fragen. Und die werden uns nicht gefallen...
Schon das Setting ist gelungen und auch die ganze Atmosphäre des Titels fühlt sich rund an. Dazu trägt wesentlich die für 2015 gute Unreal Grafik mit stimmungsvoller Ausleuchtung und die passenden Soundeffekte wesentlich bei.
Was aber vor allem gelungen ist, ist das Pacing. Denn im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Horror-Spielen passiert nur selten etwas. Es gibt so gut wie keine Jumpscares und unser Unbehagen wird meist nur durch die Ungewißheit über das was kommen wird, erzeugt. Später gibt es zwar auch Gegner, vor denen wir fliehen sollten, die sind allerdings relativ träge und recht einfach zu umgehen.
Und so steht meist das Erkunden und die drei Geschichten der Vermißten im Vordergrund und das tut dem Spiel merklich gut. Streckenweise wirkt "Stairs" sogar fast wie ein Walking Simulator, in den ein paar einfache Rätsel und simple Gegner eingestreut wurden. Und die Kombination funktioniert. Etwas schade ist, daß die Spielzeit von 2-3 Stunden recht überschaubar ausgefallen ist.
Rechnen sollte man allerdings, vor allem in den Rätseln, auch mit einigen Logikschwächen. Auch die Gegner sind ein wenig merkwürdig gestaltet und in ihren Animationen wenig gelungen. Der guten Grundatmosphäre tut das aber kaum einen Abbruch.
Ein atmosphärisches, relativ einfaches und recht kurzes Horror-Erkundungsspiel also, das öfter psychologisch arbeitet als auf schnelles Erschrecken zu setzen.

Начинал проходить "Stairs" с огромным желанием узнать, каков же сюжет у игры, потому что игра приглянулась ещё несколько лет назад во время КСЮШОУ от AlisanRose и Ксюши Зануды.
Начало было многообещающим.
Да, много ходьбы и всё такое, но мне это нравится!
Однако не тогда, когда игра требует того, чего ты понять не можешь.
В первой части игры, когда "встретился" с мадамой, нужно было найти цифры, которые составляли код от сейфа.
Найти я нашёл, но только 2 части. Вероятно, был невнимателен.
Во второй части код был найден и понят очень быстро, потому что всё находилось рядом и это было очень удобно.
Но не всё так просто: далее нужно было пройти по мостикам, которые разрушаются, как я понял, если по ним неаккуратно ходишь.
Не тут-то было... Идёшь нормально - рушится, бежишь - один не рушится, второй падает, потом решаешь везде идти спокойно - всё равно разрушается, а как попасть тогда на другую сторону?
Кстати, в этих шахтах и монстры лагучие: вроде должны бегать, но стоят на месте и к ним можно подойти вплотную, а так же пройти сквозь(!) них.
Судя по обсуждениям, разработчик очень давно положил свою огромную лестницу на своё же творение, что не очень хорошо, ведь проект интересный, просто наполнен чуточкой багулек!
Атмосфера у игры есть, скримеров нет, только сюжет не совсем понятный.
Рекомендую, но только из-за любви к старым инди-хоррорам.

For the price, pretty generic to be honest. If you can get this for ~$5 or less, than it may be worth it. I enjoyed my time playing it, but would feel pretty gypped if I paid full price.

Surprisingly good little game! Varied, imaginetive, pretty scary, just a couple of bugs that sorted themselves out by reloading checkpoints.
Note though that you CAN NOT 100% IT due to several bugged achievements, which is unfortunate.

This game is broken. I should have read the discussions before buying this game. It crashes repeatedly, and the achievements are glitched, so some of them are impossible to get even if you earn them. People have been complaining about these issues for six years, but they've never been fixed. I advise against buying this game.
Juego que me ha gustado mucho. Es un walking simulator de terror que tiene una historia trepidante con muy buena ambientación y banda sonora. Los gráficos son buenos, decentes. No es para nada monótono de jugar, pues te mantiene en tensión todo el rato con ganas de saber más de lo que pasa. Aún así, el final no termina de convencerme, pero tampoco es que sea malo. Simplemente me hubiera gustado una conclusión del juego más sólida y detallada de la historia.

Stairs é um jogo de terror psicológico atmosférico de primeira pessoa que te leva através da histórias de três pessoas desaparecidas, vista através dos olhos do jornalista Christopher Adams. e quanto a história sinto que joguei 4 jogos diferentes pois nada faz sentido de um mapa para outro, até a metade ainda é legal mas depois é uma bagunça sem sentido nenhum.
Dito isso, o jogo tem uma boa proposta mas infelizmente é apenas um projeto escolar colocado a venda cheio de bugs, e para citar apenas alguns, caderno de anotação nem sempre atualiza as fotos ou anotações, você tira uma foto e a lanterna ou visão noturna para de funcionar, o savegame as vezes não volta de onde fez o checkpoint, na mina tem plataformas no chão que não renderizam, na parte final o jogo fecha sozinho aleatoriamente, as conquistas são bugadas e as vezes você as ganha sem ter feito tudo.
A unica coisa realmente boa é a trilha sonora que consegue manter um clima de tensão, pois graficamente falando stairs não tem uma atmosfera que te cause medo algum.
Compre APENAS se você quer fazer insignias ou por conquistas e em uma incrivel promoção pois não vale o preço total e muito menos o tempo perdido.

3つのステージで謎を追体験するような内容なので、ちょっとホラーと謎解き要素の入ったWalking Simulatorという感じ
ただ、他の方もレビューしているとおり、それぞれの場面の関連性があまり感じられないので分断されているように感じる。
タイトルにある「STAIRS」は雰囲気に関連してくる程度なので、あんまり重要ではないです。。
あと、実績全解除がバグでできなくなっているようで、掲示板が荒れていた。
たしかに、壊れていると指摘されている2つの実績は私も解除できず…
数%は解除されている人がいるので自分が見落としているだけかもしれないけど、バグのせいでコンプできないならかなり腹が立つ。
実績ハンターの方にはおすすめできません。
ボリュームはあるし、びっくり＆怖い要素もほとんどないのでホラー慣れしていない人にはおすすめ。
クリア後にメインメニューで解除される「Extras」はグレーアウトしてクリックできないんだけど、これって何なんだろう？？
Oyunu bitirdim korkudansa bana gerilim gibi geldi arkada çalan müzikler ve atmosfer sizi çok geriyor onun dışında hikayesi o kadar zengin değil ve bulmacalar çok kolay yapılmış genel olarak alıp bir denemenizi tavsiye ederim.
I really whish that I could give this game a thumbs up, but I can't. I loved the first part of it (Valeries Dungeon), but that part was the only scary bit of the game. The plot (once you get it) is fascinating.
And now to the bad parts:
The plot is a bit confusing and obfuscated and it would have helped if the main character had questioned more if what he saw was truely real. For example in the transition between the first and second part he reflects over that it is strange that a mine is connected to the factory but in the transition between the second and third part he makes no reflection at all over that he enters an outdoor area and that the door simply vanishes.
No speaker voice for the notes found in part three.
And finaly the worst sin: broken achivements. I've given the game three tries but there are two achivements that can't be unlocked. And it seem to be because a note is missing from the game. How 1,4 % of the players can have these achivements anyway is a mystery for me.
Слишком много негатива в обзорах, причём не в пару слов, а скатертями, обстоятельно поясняя почему игра плоха. Были сомнения приобретать ли.
Что по итогу. Я доволен, Игра офигенная. Отличная бродилка инди сигмента. Хотя игра старалась, что бы её не пройти и бросить. Баги, с точками сохранения, от которых я натерпелся, из-за которых приходилось перепроходить локации (не один раз к тому же). То что разрабы не сделали функции быстрого сохранения и загрузки это критический просчёт. Чекпоинты это полнейшая xeрота в этой игре, именно на них игра багует и вылетает. Так у меня было на последнем уровне на моменте когда телепортируешься "к боссу" просто тупо в момент появления в новом месте (после внутриуровневой загрузки уровня) персонаж проваливался в "бездну" мапы и улетал вниз в бесконечность. Загрузка не помогала, в этот момент произошла запись, и при каждом появлении он всё равно проваливался, После нескольких попыток игра видимо поняла что критический баг, и следующая загрузка уже была с начала уровня. Так же в игре багуют записки. когда они не закрываются, ты уже можешь двигаться но записка висит и перегораживает собой весь экран - такое происходило очень много раз, чуть ли не десяток, "лечилось" это загрузкой с последнего чекпоинта. Я так понял происходить это могло из-за нажатия "неверной" кнопки, когда записка на экране, после чего эскейп уже не закрывал её (и видимо игрой уже считалось что записка закрыта). К сожалению (а может и нет, но об этом далее) в игре так же багованные достижения, на финальной четвёртой локации не открылась ачивка на фотографирование всех мест, хотя все они сфотканы (и видя что это одно из редких достижений, видимо не у одного меня так было), однако присутствует и баг дающий возможность получить ачивы за нахождение всех записок и фоток не находя их всех. Дело в том что игра засчитывает повторные снимки и прочтения записок с запуска с чекпоинта. Умирая либо загружаясь (по итогу начиная снова с последнего чекпоинта) вы можете снова читать записки, либо делать фоты, которые вы уже прочли/сняли, прибавляя к счётчику общему, что позволяет получить достижение раньше чем вы всё нашли (я так открыл на все записки, не найдя их все, на 3 и 4 локации). Так что идеальную игру не выбить.
К сожалению нет руководства по игре с нахождением всего в игре, только лишь видео прохождение, так что по итогу завершая игру, я так и не открыл например пункт extra, в котором наверное должны быть доп. материалы, фиг знает как их открывать, возможно найдя 4 магнитофонных записи в игре, которых я не нашёл.
К сожалению к игре нет русификатора, так что сюжет я не особо понял, если в начале более менее врубался что происходит. далее уже не следил: записки скипал, в разговоры не вслушивался, что там вешал герою главный гад, непонятно кто такой. Вообще не понял кто с героем разговаривал, а его визуализации не было. Демон какой-то, чёрт небось, судя по голосу. По визуалу сюжет связан с девочкой-подростком, её аморфное присутствие будет периодически, особенно много её будет под завершение. На ней сошёлся сюжет в конце. Фиг знает может это его дочь, но герой в чём то перед нею виноват, она по крайней мере так считает.
Идея с лестничной клеткой занятная, она как бы и не в центре повествования и внимания и используется как переход между "мирами" (взаимосвязь которых между друг другом я не уловил)
Сюжет как таковой кончился ничем, я его не понял. Герой шёл, шёл, выслушивал, и титры. Что авторы хотели сказать не совсем понятно и почему не довели до логического конца фиг знает, но игра обрывается непонятно почему.
Графон в игре хороший (для инди студии, не надо сравнивать с мастодонтами и разрабами с именем), повторяющиеся объекты есть (в основном это конечно двери. ну и камни в шахте.)
Несмотря на негатив в обзорах, что однообразные повторяющиеся лабиринтные коридоры, по которым ещё нужно туда-сюда бегать, верно это лишь отчасти. Поначалу правда кажется, что лабиринты пипец, но на самом деле это и не лабиринты даже, их модель легко ложиться на ум, маршрут запоминается, и по сути правильный он один - без вариантов, так как другие пути в тупики, причём не глубокие. Но всё равно для локации в шахте создали карту (не в интерфейсе, на табличках: ты к ним подходишь и сверяешься)). Хоть уровни и могут показаться большими, но только при первом прохождении, если переигрывать и знать что делать и где искать, пролетаются они буквально за 10 минут.
Если вы ждете хоррор от игры. его тут нет. Это вообще не хоррор, этот тег ошибочен. Это бродилкя. основная цель которой исследование. Если угодно отчасти симулятор ходьбы, хотя конечно это не совсем верно. Да и в основном бегать будете, благо герой в игре "не задыхется" (после недолгой пробежки как обычно бывает в подобных играх), и у него нет усталости, К третьей локации герой найдёт фонарик, который так же не будет "садиться" и которым не нужно экономно светить (бичь многих игр - поиск и экономия батареек). "Единственный" (не один, копипастнутый) враг (выглядит как какой-нибудь монстр из игры из 90-ых) будет лишь на одном уровне, да и проходиться это фрагмент в принципе легко (даже без переигрывания, с первой попытки). В остальном умирать будете от "несчастных" случаев, а в первой половине игры так и вовсе умирать не от чего.
Задача искать места для снимков понравилась, прибавляет интереса игре, стимулирует исследовать, а когда не находишь место, облазить все досконально. В поиске помогает то, что располагаются снимки по мере нахождения, и понимаешь в каких местах локации их искать. А уровни в игре линейные, попасть куда-то ранее положенного нельзя, а места в локации открываются только после определённых действий. Загадки есть, но ломать голову над ними особо не надо, и их не много и даже не на каждом уровне есть (я лишь комбинацию для сейфа в прохождении посмотрел).
То что разрабы постоянно на протяжении игры подкидывают в геймплей новое, вообще отлично Каждый фрагмент локаций играется по иному с новыми возможностями или обделениями, когда тебя лишают чего-то, но наделяют иным.
Играть не надоело, даже с перепрохождениями, не наскучило. не раздражало. В целом игра отличная, возможно когда появиться русификатор, перепройду ещё раз, хотя сюжет вроде не особо то важен и не глубок.
This game is more like a walking sim inside a maze, with a spooky feeling and a story unveiling the further you go deep, despite title should be "Doors" more than "Stairs"...
Some ideas are pretty clever but repeating enough to dilute the mood and the patience at some point. Graphically pleasing but not so rich in asset and models variation, sounds and voices are pretty fitting on the other hand. Not many monster encounters yet fitting, the jumpscares are actually spot on.
Definitely worth if you get it at the lowest price due to several issues cracking the stability: you may encounter game breaking bugs, solvable with tweaks or restarting from last checkpoint. Be warned.

I would say, the plot didnt realy get to me after playing. Only after I've read devs explanation, it makes sense. So if you're thinking about buying it, when you finish you should really read explanation.
I bought this game, as I thought it would be solitary exploration type of walking simulator, but unfortunately there are stealth-scenes and you will be chased and killed if you're unable to get away. That murdered this game brutally. Cannot recommend.
Generic Indie Horror game, the game - Story, Gegner, Umgebungen, Mechaniken und Stilmittel hat man alle schon besser gesehen, fühlt sich an wie eine 2015 Budget Version von Penumbra gemischt mit vielen kleinen Titeln der early 2010s - Komplett überzeugen konnte es nie, die Puzzles wechseln von seltsam simpel zu interessant durchdacht, aber am Ende fehlt eine spannende Story die die "du bist in einer Mine und hier sind Gegner denen du ausweichen musst" Szenen zusammenhält, leider unterer Durchschnitt, aber doch mit einigen liebevollen Stellen ausgerüstet.
Im Endeffekt aber eher eine negative Review, da man nichts verpasst wenn man das Game niemals spielt

Awful horror game that isn't scary. There are some light puzzles that mainly just involve wandering around an area until you find the thing that opens the next the door to the big 'Stairs' that links the different levels of the game. If you want you can take a series of photos to unlock achievements.
There's no real atmosphere to the game. The graphics are dated, but indie games are forgiven for that. However, the environments are lifeless and boring. This game lacks any style, scares, or spectacle. It took less than 2.5 hours to finish and was dull the whole way through. It's just another couple of hours walking virtually through dark and empty places with ominous music.
It's an okay short horror walking simulator, it has a good atmosphere, but turn down the volume, in some scenes the game is way too loud for no good reason.
The story is actually quite nice, but it isn't fully explained in the game, it only makes sense after reading the devopers comment, which I copied for you below and marked as a spoiler. Obviously only read it after finishing the game.
I can recommend the game if you like shorter walking simulator games and can get it on sale, since it's like 2 hours for a playthrough.
Achievement hunters beware: some achievements seem to be broken and you can't get them, this didn't bother me personally
Developers comment on the story: [spoiler] Christopher Adams is a journalist, writing stories and trying to sell them off for a profit. In order to increase the value of his stories he'll take events and spice them up to make them more interesting. In the case of Valerie, a girl who was mentally ill and being cared for by her father, Adams decides to add imprisonment and incest. In the case of Jame Reed, a man trapped in a collapsed mine with some friends who ended up dying from starvation, he added murder and cannibalism. And in the case of Jean Jowars Remens, where a group of cancer patients decided to end their lives rather than go through the suffering of life, he decided to add a suicide cult.
In the game you are presented with Adams version of events, rather than reality. And he become hunted by the monsters he created. In the end, the voice of the entity that is forcing this punishment on you takes matters into its own hands and walks you through your mistake. Ending all of it simply by telling you that your punishment is not yet over. Adam walks down the stairs, and the game ends [/spoiler]
The atmosphere in this game gave me the chills.

I really LOVED this game BUT it crashed for me, right at the end and since then I can't finish it anymore. Super pissed about that, but until the last chapter it was a great experience. The first chapter is super creepy but then it kind of loses the suspense and from then on it's not really scary anymore. I would still recommend it, just hope it doesn't crash for you.

I can't claim to understand what was going on with the story. But as far as puzzle heavy horror games go, you could definitely do worse than this. A few of the puzzles had me bringing out the old notepad.

ジャーナリストの主人公が殺人現場の工場で地下へ続く長い階段を見つける所から話が始まる。
カメラの機能を駆使しながら進み、メモ・アイテムを集めパズルを解いていくのが主なプレイ内容になる。
雰囲気がステージごとにかなり変わり、ストーリーはぶつ切りな印象を受ける。
特に最後の展開の唐突さには唖然とさせられる。
一方で雰囲気作りは上手く、様々なホラー要素がステージごとに演出されているのは好印象。
ただ、メインはパズルを解くアドベンチャーで、怖がらせる・驚かせる要素は抑え目。
定価相応のボリューム、完成度とは言い難いが、
ちょっとしたホラー風のアドベンチャーをプレイしたいならセール時にはお勧め。
Miks przygodówki i survival horroru z perspektywie pierwszoosobowej. Wcielamy się w reportera, który bada miejsca zbrodni. Schodząc po schodach trafiamy do tajemniczych miejsc, w których zbieramy notatki a także unikamy zjaw lub potworów. Graficznie nie jest najwyższych lotów, całość na przejście to ok 3 godziny. Grze nie można odmówić atmosfery niepokoju. Nie ma tutaj jump scarów (może z dwa), klimat budowany jest poprzez eksplorację, dźwięk oraz muzykę. Ważnym elementem gry jest aparat, którym fotografujemy ważne miejsca i który ułatwia nam wędrówkę.
Minusem są niekiedy błędy jak możliwość zaklinowania się a raz nie doczytało mi tekstur i musiałem restartować grę.
Jak za niecałe 5 zł, które dałem za grę na Steamie jestem jednak pozytywnie zaskoczony i w tej cenie zdecydowanie polecam.

I must say.. for a game that took me only only 2 hours to complete it was very cool. I love the mechanics and the jumpscares. The story was a bit confusing but overall i really liked it. I did get it on sale for only $1.29 and that right there is a steal. Now if you will excuse me i need to go change my underwear.
