It feels like we're going the hipster way by choosing to praise "Square Brawl" out of all the big hitters that Landfall so consistently releases, but this is a very earnest review. We got this game a bit less than a decade ago. It wasn't a big hit, but it was surely a fun time. Simple at its core: choose two weapons (your strategy will drastically change depending on what you choose) and go brawl. It cuts to the chase and it delivers on what it promises: a thrilling battle that will have y'all laughing and holding your breath when you're one hit away from dying or winning.
It's, simply put, a great local multiplayer game.
Recently, we were choosing what to play during our lunch break and I suggested giving Square Brawl a go, and no matter how many years had passed since last time we played it, we found ourselves having a blast once again.
While it's unlikely that Landfall will surprise us all with a "Square Brawl 2" (fingers crossed, though), I am sincerely happy to see that the creators of such a hidden gem have found so much success. It's oh so well deserved.
Had hundreds hours of fun playing this with my brother. Still playing every now and then till this day.

A simple game that can change dramatically from one round to another, as the game understands how players naturally use its variety of unique weapons and combinations of said weapons, and reflects such in its level design.
Generally a good game, but there's a reason why this game is so incredibly dead. The design is almost too simple, as the game itself presents no real visual appeal. It uses simple colors on simple shapes, and rolls with this idea everywhere. From the menus, to the levels, and even to the characters themselves, being just squares.
While the weapons are fun, and experimenting with combinations can be satisfying, the game play becomes dull and repetitive. There's no real ways that certain weapons complement others in a way that you would really want to try out different combos. The only thing that changes is that you have to adapt to the new weapons you want to use.
While I can't say this game is bad, there's simply better to look towards in the Landfall Franchise, that all improve on this physics based arena style that they are so famous for. Stickfight and Rounds have a similar game play, and while they make use of different mechanics, the mechanics that they use don't get old so quickly.

To be honest, this game looks like it could be easily coded on scratch. Its just not worth your money for a game like this especially if you only have a keyboard to play. The keyboard controls are awful. I'm probably going to refund this.

square brawl is a indie party game developed and published by a swedish game company named landfall. they were officially founded in 2015 and square brawl was their first game released on steam.
square brawl is pretty clearly a early version of what eventually became stick fight: the game, releasing in 2017 to much more success and popularity. however, this was a clear prototype: only local multiplayer, etc.
they eventually made clustertruck in 2016 after square brawl and air brawl, another early game from landfall, were both released in 2015 to steam. clustertruck was a huge hit and that is what made them able to go after something like stick fight after previously only having the resources and capabilities to make something like square brawl.
this is a decent game for $5 (and even less on sale, you can routinely find this for 90% off, making this only 50 cents) and normally i'd say buy it on sale, the fact they released a (in my opinion) better version a couple years later makes me recommend skipping this entirely. however, for $5, with frequent 90% off sales, i can't in good faith give this a negative review.

Por um preço nada convidativo e pela incerteza que ele pode apresentar por fotos(e seu produto final também não vale o preço cheio) todavia em promoção por um valor simbólico você pode se surpreender com a competitividade e desafio que te propõe. Uma proposta simples, mas cativante, o jogo não peca em nada(a não ser pelo preço full) ou talvez pela inexistência de um modo online, pois ele tem "apenas" um modesto coop local. Gameplay de excelência porém difícil de aprender, diversos tipos de armas e combinações diferentes, é realmente uma lástima que ele não apresente um modo online, seu potencial é enorme. Sua ausência de modo online é um gatilho determinante para o jogo ter uma queda expressiva no números de horas dos jogadores, infelizmente, bots enjoam. Assim como suas músicas frenéticas que passam uma "vibe indescritível", me despeço com palavras contundentes:

Poor optimisation of controls (ex. controls won't work properly), and the game lags out a ton in the main menu even if you have a decent/fairly new computer.
If you want gameplay similar to this, try out Stick Fight: The Game made by the same developers. The game offers much better gameplay and also supports online multiplayer. It seems as though this is the much-worse predecessor of SF:TG, so many of these optimisations are fixed in SF:TG.

Quería jugar con los panas y no se pudo. Está bueno el juego, realmente me gustó, pero el hecho de que se requiera si o sí 2 mandos la regó,(para jugar de a 4), estaría re genial que envés, uno mismo pudiese configurar los controles para los jugadores, de la clásica que la tecla apretada signifique una acción en el juego, tan simple como eso.

The game is fun with friends but there are a few bugs that happen sometimes, particularly when two players kill each other at the exact same time.
If you have friends who will play it with you I definitely recommend it.

Fun single player game to mess around with
I recommend it for everyone who loves party games as I do. The game is pretty simple and makes a lot of fun when played with friends.
The NEGATIVE point is that the soundtracks are too repetitive. You can't play for more than 30min without a break.
Really great game to play a while.

The weapon variety makes the game super fun. You can have some pretty sick follow-up with your attacks, making it a load of fun to play with friends. It's somewhat easy to pick up and you can start hitting some super sick shots right off the bat. Experimentation with weapon combinations and their interplay is what makes this game the most fun.
Управление в меню клавишами через 4 мин уже становится привычным. Персонаж в игре управляется частично рандомно (направление выстрелов, какбы дуло смотрит в направление движения, но по факту за этим не уследить). Весело, необычно.
Может быть, слегка многовато спецэффектов, так как частенько теряешь из виду своего персонажа. Не совсем удобным является то, что при использовании некоторых видов оружий идет сильная отдача на персонажа, и он отлетает в другой угол локации.
Для начала рекомендую использовать револьвер с шотганом. Обязательно исследуйте все оружия - оно того стоит! Мои любымие - Bounce и Shield. Карту берите для начала Arena. После каждой катки вам предложат сменить карту. Вторая карта мне не понравилась: боты в ней ведут себя как дауны.
С ботами играется прикольно на Arena.
Игра, если честно, жвачка, как и все игры landfall, но своих денег стоит.
Great little game, Very easy to pick up on mechanics, Only glitch entails replaying after a match and everyone spawns 4 times at once. Its kind of cool, so not a problem. For 5 Bucks however, eh.

Simple VS combat between squares. Has a variety of weapons that affect playstyles which makes it arguably better than the more recent Flat Heroes in the same genre. Weapons can be recoil pistols, melee weapons, dashes and charges attacks or even bouncing lasers. Mechanically works alright. It is outcompeted by anything that made any effort in character design or nicer sprites. Even Demons with Shotgun easily outclasses this. Let alone a Brawlhalla or Rivals of Aether.

Some people say the game is unbalanced, some say it's fun, I say it's both. Nobody plays it anymore, because it gets boring pretty quick. Even people who say they loved the game on comments played as far as 30 hours. The thing is, [b] there is nothing that makes you want to keep playing. [/b]
I played this game with my friends while it was still in alpha. We generally play quick phased split screen coop/vs games, and we did have fun with Square Brawl. I hoped that new things would come; new weapons, mods, maps, etc. Few months later, completed game released on steam. Bought it immediately. Wow, better graphics, 4 new weapons and bots that actually work!.....aand nothing else. Absence of multiplayer sucks too (but it never bothered me since I always play with friends side by side)
This game might have been a big hit on quick phased vs/coop game market, but sadly it stayed still after its release. Perhaps it's better that way, since Landfall made other amazing games after this one.
