This retro 60s-themed rhythm action series is still a lot of fun, and desperately in need of a revival. Calling it part 2 is appropriate, since (after the initial tutorial level) the difficulty of the sequel pretty much picks up where the end of the first game left off, and escalates from there. It has more places where it tries to catch you out by switching up the length of sections that you need to repeat, adding puzzle-like variations, and varying tempos. This might make it a bit frustrating for people who haven't played the first game, especially since it's a rare rhythm game that doesn't have on-screen prompts for button presses.
Perhaps the most difficult thing to accept about Space Channel 5 is that we're now almost as far removed from the year the first one released (1999) as that year was from the 60s. Also, it's kind of nuts that this game just casually has Michael Jackson voicing one of the characters in it.
I love this game, don't get me wrong. I'm sad it's not up for purchase anymore. But, my main issue with this is the major glitching on the second report as well as the missing voice lines for commands etc. There are some minor issues with the other reports but, for now the second report has the most issues with the sub boss.
Why was this even allowed to be sold on Steam in the first play. Terrible port with setting changes that don't stick, forced resolution @ 640x480, and crashes at full screen. Literally cannot do Alt + Enter without the game crashing itself.
Space Channel 5: Part 2 is one of the most delightfully unhinged rhythm games ever made — up, down, up, down, chu, chu, chu, and somehow you're hooked. The campy aesthetic, banger soundtrack, and sheer absurdity of dancing alongside Space Michael Jackson make it an absolute joy. That said, the PC port is a genuine mess: audio desync, framerate-tied timing, and a final stage that can completely break if your refresh rate isn't set to 60hz. If you can wrestle the settings into submission (check config.ini directly, don't bother with the in-game configure option), there's a brilliant game underneath — but going in blind expecting a smooth experience will frustrate you. I recommend it with the caveat that you do your homework first, because the game itself absolutely deserves to be played.

It's a shame this is no longer available for purchase, it's one of my favorite rhythm games of all time. Does the port have it's issues? yes. But once you get it working for the most part it's super enjoyable and it's a shame I can no longer get my friends hooked on it.

It's nice exploring what the Dreamcast catalouge had to offer, and still remain obsessed with the game's soundtrack, Ulala but that's not new; furtistic Y2K aura, and it's pretty straight forward gameplay.
Just wish it got relisted since Space Channel is definitely worth checking out. But alas, why we sail to the high seas for a reason. but it won't be a nice surprise to see dual package of both games, since the first game could definitely use the polish on controls and get more peopel to experience it. (Trust me, I bought the same game on xbox and PS3, there was a lot of hours just to get 100% for each stage)

bought this as part of some bundle or something. Can't even refund it because it's gonna refund Crazy Taxi & bunch of other games. Runs poorly as hell, sometimes I do the moves on time the game still acts like I didn't press the right buttons sometimes it acts like I did there's no telling how is it gonna react either way game runs like ♥♥♥♥ can't get past 20 minutes in I end up with no hearts or whatever.

I first played this on Dreamcast circa AD 2000. It was ok, but i felt like it needed DDR footpads. I'd play it again if that was the HID. Oh, Sega. Why did you abandon your fans?

Amazing that this all ran on a Hitachi Super H processor @200 Mhz with only 16 MB RAM. The use of GDROM was cutting edge for the day.

주요 설정2 : 해상도 60Hz 또는 120Hz 맞추기 (단, 120Hz도 마지막엔 싱크가 밀림 / 게임도 60hz 모니터 해상도도 60hz를 똑같이 맞춰야만 챕터 6 영상이 밀리지 않아 해피엔딩을 볼 수 있음 / 추천하는 루트는 본인 모니터 해상도에 맞게 180hz정도로 플레이 하다가 6챕터 넘어가면 해상도 60으로 다 바꾸기)
중간 저장 : 있음! 챕터마다 마지막 시청률이 뜨면 그 챕터는 클리어가 완료된거임. 그래서 1-2챕터 후 게임 껐다 키면 다음 3챕터가 열려있음. 이런 식의 중간저장은 됨.
후기 : 엄청 어릴 때 봤었던 게임이었는데, 한참 후에 성인이 되어서 다시 해봄 ㅋㅋㅋ 깨는 건 2시간이 안걸렸는데, 챕터 2 구조율 100퍼센트를 찍으면 엄청 화려하고 감동적이래서 챕터 2만 한 4번? 5번 반복하느라 좀 걸렸음. 그거랑 마지막 해상도 낮춰야하는 걸 몰라서 시행착오 하느라 챕터 6을 6번이나 깸 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
싱크 밀리는 게 하필이면 맨 마지막이라서 그때마다 "아 안돼 또!!!" 하면서 하나씩 바꿔봄 ㅋㅋㅋ
정말 이 게임은 그 당시에도 시대를 앞섰지만, 지금도 앞선 거 같음. 이렇게 재밌고 즐겁고 노래도 좋은 게임이 솔직히 말해서 2025년인 지금까지 순수 체급(재미, 리듬감, 노래, 춤) 뛰어넘는 게 없다 싶을 정도로 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
왕도물의 정석 루트, 스토리 딱 깔끔하고 재미는 말해 뭐해!
각 판마다 아무리 못해도 2-3번 정도 하면 깰 수 있고, 전 페이즈에서 플래시를 너무 깎았으면 차라리 재시작하는게 좋을 거임!
특히 연주 파트는 올타임 고트같음. 제일 재밌는건 어렵긴해도 챕터2랑 챕터3인거같음!
챕터 6 엔딩의 경우에는 챕터 1이랑 비슷하게 플레이 타임이 제일 적음!

+1대1 댄스 모드 겁나 재밌음. 처음 했는데 73% 시청률 까지 갔음. 100퍼센트도 틀리지만 않으면 가능할듯?
그리고 1대 1 댄스모드에서 헤이 츄 대신에 멍, 야옹, 혼다, 도요타 이런거 하는데 너무 재밌음 ㅋㅋㅋ
+1탄 다 깨면 2탄도 생기는데, 은근 살짝 어려워지고 개, 고양이 같은 애들도 나오고 구출하는 애들이 싹 다 바뀌어서 보는 맛이 있음 ㅋㅋㅋ 웃기기도 웃기고, 마이크 말고 아이스크림이나 주방도구 쓸 수 있는 해금 장치 있음.
플탐 자체는 2시간 정도지만 더 하라면 10시간도 넘게 가능한 게 진짜 재밌는듯
+ 찐 마지막! 월드 2 다 깼음 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 더 재밌긴한데 마지막 6-2챕터 진짜 힘들어서 하는 맛이 있음... 피가 5개가 기본이었는데 2개로 줄어서 묘하게 어려움 마음이 긴장하게 되니까 실수 하게되는게있는듯 ㅋㅋㅋ

In my opinion the best rhythm game - even with a cameo of Michael Jackson! It's not easy to play at first, but for everyone who thinks most of the other rhythm games are too easy, and enjoys a quirky story, this is definitely a gem.
This is a funny charming fantastic little rhythm game that fell into obscurity. It was extreme version of the kids game "Simon Says" but with an adorable anime girl protagonist full of 60's retro style outfits,cheesy puns, and even Michael Jackson made a guest appearance as a humorous gimmick. The music was fun to play along with and finding all the games hidden commands secret costumes and challenging your friends to beat your ratings scores was always amusing.
UNFORTUNATELY this was the worst port to PC that could have ever possibly existed. The music was completely desync'd from the animations and the animations were desync'd from the verbal commands making this game utterly unplayable and completely unbeatable unless you used the R1 L1 O X Triangle Cheat code (makes the game play itself) OR Modify your entire system to have the game run properly EVERY TIME you booted it up. For these reasons this game is not a recommended purchase from steam. That said. if you can find a PS2 CD and Console to play it on. you will have the BEST experiance. Godspeed Sega enthusiasts. See you Space Cats.

단점: 모니터 주사율 때문인지 모르겠는데 후반 가서 이상한 버그인지 뭔지 싱크가 이상하게 밀림. 그리고 자잘한 문제들이 너무 많음.

I had to check this out after seeing Ulala so many times in other games (especially Sonic Riders), and what an experience this!
It's kind of what I wanted Parappa the Rapper to be, but this has so much more to offer when it comes to gameplay.

The only real criticisms are if you come from any traditional rhythm game, the timing windows are insanely big compared (although apparently it's in response to the first game being too strict). It can be frustrating to mess up once and lose your perfect rating in a fairly long level.
Also, you can't buy it anymore (or Nights Into Dreams, why??) :(

In Space Channel 5: Part 2, you work as the funky news reporter, Ulala! Set in a space-age future, you work on reporting and tracking down a group that's unleashing DANCE MADNESS across the galaxy. It's a very short rhythm-based game, with a great difficulty curve. It does get difficult in the latter levels, but it is CATHARTIC to hit those beats.
If you're a big fan of a cheesy and fun romp, this will absolutely scratch your itch. This game OOZES with style and its OST is absolute FIRE. This is just an absolutely unique experience you will not get anywhere else. It is one of the epitomes of the experimentation Sega had with the Dreamcast. ...Just don't play the first one.

SUPER SUCCESSFUL RESCUE! One of my all-time favourite games, though in returning to it I found a tinge of sadness. Not because it isn't as amazing as it ever was...
If you didn't know this is one of the original 90's rhythm games (this version technically early 00's) and really one of the best. Forget modern rhythm games which are somehow mixed with bullet hell, or parry-withdraw-attack patterns: this is just simply you pressing buttons in time with funky music after memorising the pattern given in the last few seconds. You loved Parappa the Rapper but didnt know about this? Get it - it's 100% for you!
The premise is that, as a Space News Reporter with rhythm, a ray gun and balls, you progress a story by copying ever-tougher rhythmic button-presses in time to excellent music which ramps up in style and speed based on the pressure, and along the way save innocent beings forced to dance badly by evil ne'er-do-wells - and you may also save the Space President and Space Michael Jackson! (Make of that what you will - hooo!)
Space Channel 5 is an absolute reminder of the golden age of games when things can look good, sound good be addictive and yet be as simple as Pacman in principal. It's almost impossibly hard not to love, and that 70's funk / Austin Powers / sexy hotpants and short-shorts vibe is irrepressibly lovely to be in. Each round you play makes you wanna go back and just improve that perfection average in a way that crack cocaine wishes it were that addictive.
Which brings me to that sadness tinge. It's not the naughties now and I am old and rhythm is hard. This Steam version has achievements my console version did not which, while well judged and fairly allocated, would require more of me than I can give these days, in terms of replays and accuracy, so many will probably go unobtained. But that doesnt stop it from being a classic, excellent game.
And it wont stop me trying to!

Space channel 5 is one of my favourite retro game series and the music is so groovy. I'd say this is a pretty good port to computer. It's very fun and challenging. After a lot of trying levels over again it becomes a breeze.
Why this got removed is beyond me, ditto with why Part 1 never released on Steam.

The game's style is excellent with goofy music and a cool pop 50's space theme but the actual gameplay I wasn't into much. Fancier Simon Says with forgettable stage music and levels that go on for way longer than they should. Gitaroo Man this is not.

Lo malo viene ligado del Port , y es que siendo sinceros es totalmente horroroso xd , si juegas con control/mando depende de cual tengas algunos inputs no entran , en algunas secciones el juego se de-sincroniza y hace imposible jugarlo/terminarlo , hay que hacer un montón de arreglos y ajustes extras para que el juego se ejecute y corra "bien".
NOTA FINAL : JUEGO 9.5/10 - PORT 4/10
El material original es totalmente fantástico , si quieres rememorarlo o jugarlo por primera vez te animo a probarlo, sin embargo no podría recomendar este port , esta muy poco pulido y tiene demasiados errores que dificultan poder disfrutar de esta joya como se merece .

great graphics for its time and very fun game but there are no checkpoints, the controls arent synced with the music, the guitar is very hard to play because you cant tell which direction its going. Also even though im leaving a bad review they still shouldnt have taken this game down as they didnt give us a reason and some other people might have liked it.

It's a shame this game is now delisted (as of December 6, 2024).
If this ever gets relisted, buy it ASAP. The Steam version looks and plays great at 1440p/60fps. The only bothersome thing about this PC port is the very low quality fmv cutscenes. I don't recall the fmv cutscenes looking this bad on the PS3 and Xbox 360 ports, both of which are also now delisted.
My Dreamcast trifecta is: Jet Set Radio, Shenmue, Space Channel 5. Those three series are peak SEGA in the prime of their creativity. Space Channel 5: Part 2 deserves to be continually available for future generations.

Out of every single work ever contributed to the medium, this might be the game I am worst at. I helplessly flounder the instant I have to use more than three buttons on my controller. To me, this was like playing Elden Ring NG+++ with a 2x Damage multiplier and a blindfold on. It took me *twice* the HLTB time to finish this, and, wearing my heart on my sleeve, I did a microscopic amount of cheating… So, when even a haphazard, talentless player such as I can crawl through this game and still recognise that it does indeed rule, it only stands as a testament to its incredulousness. Such a creative, evolving experience, always pushing itself to better what it did previously. A love for itself flows out through Space Channel 5’s radio waves, harmonised alongside a delicious soundtrack for the ages. They should make 10,000 more Space Channel 5 games.
