1943: The world seems to face its destruction in all parts; war is raging like never before. You are the commander of a squad, leading the soldiers you’ve selected into special and top secret operations to change the tide of war in your favour – allies or axis.
The game's story takes place during World War II in an alternate history. Thor's Hammer Organization (THO), is a shadowy organization with connections all over Europe and the goal of world domination. THO knows that this goal cannot be attained while there are powers capable of challenging them, and aims to use its connections and advanced technology to make sure the two sides of WWII devastate each other, while THO makes a grab for power when both are exhausted. The obvious influence of Norse mythology on the organization's name is further shown by the fact that all THO members use a mythological name as their call sign. In exchange for the services of both Allied and Axis higher-ups, Thor's Hammer provides them with some of their inventions, including Panzerkleins. Panzerkleins are very difficult to destroy, as they are essentially immune to small arms fire.

utterly stupid game. I had a 100% indicated success at a shot and still missed. then there was the fact some other enemy were supposedly hidden (I couldnt hit them 0%) yet they could hit me (and they killed that recruit).. honestly the 'difficulty' in this game is being able to hit anything as the player. not worth playing

Systém levlení postav je dobrý a destrukce prostředí je srovnatelná s málokterou hrou. (Střílení na sebe skrz podlahy a stěny si vážně nevybavuji jinde.)
Různorodost zbraní je velká. systém balistiky fascinující.
Jen jsem měl na konci bug a neobjevil se šéf, tak jsem nemohl dokončit poslední misi.

It bears the lineage of *Jagged Alliance*, and this is its salvation.
One beholds the granularity—action points, postures, interrupt fire—and recognizes, with something like gratitude, that tactical depth has not yet perished from this earth. Every bullet is accounted for. Every step consumes its due. The game does not flatter you with ease; it regards you as competent until you prove otherwise, and you will prove otherwise, repeatedly, and each failure will be instructive.
And the walls. Ah, the walls.
A grenade, properly placed, does not merely injure—it *excises*. Floors surrender. Staircases, those perennial bottlenecks, are rendered optional by sufficient application of high explosive. One does not navigate the enemy fortress; one *reconfigures* it. This is not destruction for spectacle; it is destruction as strategy, as architecture, as prayer. The plaster dust settles, and where there was obstacle, there is now aperture. I have known few digital pleasures more sincere.
The Panzerkleins arrive, inevitable as death, and the granularity acquires new weight. Your rifleman, so diligent, now faces armour that mocks ballistics. Your demolitions expert, previously a liability, becomes prophet. The mission transforms; you adapt or you perish. It is not grace. It is *pressure*, and pressure, properly endured, yields character.
The AI, it is true, deliberates with monastic leisure. The voice acting offends historical sensibilities. The engine, venerable and demanding, taxes modern machines with the entitlement of pensioned nobility. These are not virtues. They are *conditions*.
Yet the tactical skeleton remains sound. The destruction remains liberating. The campaign, for all its eccentricities, coheres. One hundred hours evaporate, and the regret is remarkably dilute.
Thus *Silent Storm* is not the masterpiece it might have been. It is, however, a masterpiece of what it is: granular, destructive, patient, punishing. It asks much and returns interest.
I recommend it, not despite its flaws, but through them. The walls fall. The mission continues. The Will, as ever, endures.

💥 Many popular turn based tactics have destructible environments, but its often tile-based and quite limited. In this game, even the smallest chunks of wall can be destroyed, and it actually plays a big role in gameplay: you can create holes anywhere and attack enemies through them, breach walls to reach objectives from unexpected positions, or deny access to enemies. Its all works in tandem with verticality too! You can ragdoll drop unconscious targets through floor holes to pick them up later, have enemies crushed by collapsed buildings, or even blast them through a hole in the wall with a few bullet shots. Bullets can ricochet and penetrate walls, explosions or gunfire can blow open doors etc. etc.
🪖 This “physicality” applies to many other aspects of gameplay too: how movement affects your accuracy and accuracy aimed at you, how you can see and “hear” enemies behid walls (or not if you blinded or deafened). Great stuff. The gameplay itself actually feels quite modern and easy to get into, even though its already a 20+ y.o. game. Maybe only a few interactions, like bandaging or lockpicking, lack visual feedback and are hard to grasp what is happening, but other than that its a blast. And this game even has [spoiler]MECHS[/spoiler]. it’s common knowledge that every game becomes better with [spoiler]MECHS[/spoiler].
🔫 Visually, its appealing too: the mix of orthographic view, clipped floors, and small maps makes it look almost like a war diorama, which im a big fan of. It also plays quite well on a Steam Deck, just requiring some initial controls tinkering. In general, its a great and forgotten gem, with mechanics you rarely see in newer tactical games. So give it a try if you are a fan of the genre.
If Jagged Alliance took place during WW2. The environment destruction is something you don't see in games like this, which is a nice touch. I wish they would make a new one.

Сюжет специфический, но это же игра.
Стиль - пошаговая тактика + прокачка бойцов. X-Com подобное. Летающая тарелки присутствует ( в секретной миссии).
Один недостаток - довольно медленный ходы компьютера. Надо быть готовым к несколько медитативному геймплею.
Ну относительный недостаток - кривые прокачки бойцов - обнять и плакать. На базе они качаются быстрее по статам, но криво но талантам. На базе бойцы качаются только до 10-го лвла - надо помнить.
Ну и баг в миссии в Швейцарии на заводе (пришлось часов 7 перепроходить несколько раз с начала, пока ворота сработали). И финальный босс бывает пропадает (лечится неофициальными патчами).
В целом очень достойный представитель старый хороших игр.
Well, I prefer to construct buildings, but there is some fun in destroying them as well! And here you can level any building to the ground and even lower. You can also shoot through the windows, doors, or even through the walls! And your enemies can (and will) do the same. One of the best tactic games I ever played!
If you like turn-based tactics, I certainly recommend this game. And it still looks good despite its age.
The gameplay is really slow and the game crashes a lot, forcing me to start the battle over, but I didn't want to enable to option to save during battles because that would facilitate savescumming. Thus, the game pretty much ends up being unplayable for me on my system. It's a shame because the destruction is really cool... I'll just have to look around for more modern turn-based tactical games, or just play through Brigade E5 yet again...

Эта игра где ваш гренадёр одним броском гранаты может как спасти так и угробить весь ваш отряд.
Одно из лучших творений русского геймдева и подобного нынче почти не сыскать, потому обязательно стоит познакомиться с этим шедевром хотя бы из уважения к нашему прошлому и конечно же заценить другие части. Лично для меня эта одна из первых игр в которые я поиграл в своей жизни вообще, так что может во мне говорит синдром утёнка но всё же, нельзя не согласиться что сейчас от наших разработчиков ничего подобного уже нету потому давайте не будем забывать то что они подарили нам когда-то.
Игра просто нетленка. Проходил ее 15 лет назад, и с удовольствием играю теперь

Лучшая РПГэшка того времени, в которую можно и сейчас поиграть. XCOM учились у этих ребят создавать...и, кстати, научились, почти. абсолютно всё работает, а главное процент попадания. Единственно, тематика может не всем зайти. Но через пару часиков втягиваешься. Так классно всё работает.

Сюжет переносит вас в Европу в альтернативный 1943 год. Запрещённая в СССР организация "Молот Тора" с помощью грязных методов контролирует руководителей научных и военных программ по всему миру. Она собирает самые передовые разработки и тайно снабжает армии воюющих сторон. Пока стороны заняты взаимным уничтожением, "Молот Тора" готовится запустить спутник с орбитальной лучевой пушкой (o_O).
Вам предоставляется выбор: выступать за Союзников или за Ось. Вас назначают командиром небольшой диверсионной группы, которой суждено раскрыть международный заговор и предотвратить запуск спутника.
В группу можно набрать не более шести бойцов, включая вас. Все персонажи делятся на шесть классов, каждый со своими уникальными ветками прокачки: Снайпер великолепно стреляет и очень опасен на больших дистанциях, но при этом физически слаб и чувствителен к ранениям. Солдат хорошо стреляет из автоматов и пулемётов и неплох во всех остальных аспектах, но не лучше других классов.
Такую же продуманную боевую систему, как в Silent Storm, трудно будет найти — на ум даже ничего не приходит, а я напомню, что игра 2003 года. Здесь не просто стрельба с типичными шансами попадания, характерными для подобных игр. Пули имеют физику: если вы промахнулись, пуля не исчезает за горизонтом, а летит дальше по своей траектории, пока не встретит препятствие, которое её остановит.
Более того, в игре реализована невероятная физика разрушений: ваш инженер не может взломать дверь с помощью отмычки? Не беда — взорвите её динамитом или даже всю стену. На крыше сидит вражеский снайпер и не даёт вам покоя? Плёвое дело — возьмите гранатомёт и снесите его вместе с частью здания!
Также персонажи и NPC не только видят, но и слышат — они могут услышать шорохи в кустах или за стеной и стрелять по ним на слух. А с мощным оружием, обладающим высокой пробивной способностью, можно стрелять через стены, поражая противников сквозь преграду.
Графику на сегодня уже, наверное, передовой не назовёшь, но для 2003 года всё выглядело просто шикарно. Саундтрек отлично передает атмосферу Второй мировой. Всё звучит великолепно, от взрывов до предсмертных криков. Особенно стоит отметить озвучку персонажей и NPC — она тоже на высоком уровне, чего только стоит озвучка Петренко Тараса xD.
Подытожу:
Silent Storm — лучший пошаговый тактический шутер, за все эти годы ничто не приблизилось по уровню проработки и вниманию к мелочам. Я до сих пор не нашёл ничего достойного сравнения. Это безусловно легенда российского геймдева, стоящая в одном ряду с Космическими Рейнджерами 2. Маст-хэв для любителей пошаговых боёв и стратегий в целом.

Сломан ИИ противников, большая часть противников стоит на месте. По этой причине, так же, сломана финальная битва с боссом. Панцеркляйн босса, имеет оверапнутую скрытность, и начать с Боссом бой можно когда босс начинает активность. В этой версии Боссы пасивен невидим. Пройти финал невозможно.
Так же, мелочь, сломаны отражения поверхностей. Заметно на стеклянных банках в инвентаре.
Играл в нее 2007 проходил,полностью.Отличная пошаговая игра с озвучкой.

This game was great when it was release a long time ago. The Gold edition from Steam is buggy like hell. You can't finish the boss level. Boss is missing. I contacted their Technical support and refused to acknowledge the problem, like this is new to them, when this has been discussed for more than 2 years on this forum. Some managed to install an unofficial patch to finish the game. It did not work for me.
Don't buy it unless if you have too much money to spend, or never finish your games.
One of the all time best, turn based action games out there.
I spent hundreds of hours on this game with my best friend when we were teens - great times and it really still holds up!!
Deep mechanics - easy to learn - hard to master!!
Pro Tip:
the numbers on your num pad can be used to aim at respective body parts.
1 and 3 are the legs.
4 and 6 are the arms, 5 the chest.
8 is the head.
This is never explained in game but can deicde a crucial moment, by crippling the enemy, or dealing bonus damage for hitting the head!

Духота. Игра, это сплошной сейв-лоуд, лоуд, лоуд. Кривизна во многих аспектах, особенно в управлении. Маленькие однообразные локации, набитые врагами. Этой игре нужен серьезный ремейк, может, тогда и будет толк.

This is still best turn-based tactic I have ever played. Back in the time when they were more complex than 1 move + 1 action mechanic.
Challenging, RPG-like progression, full destruction of surrounding, lots of tactical possibilities, styled graphic that looks "good enough" even in 2025. Funny voice acting, in the Russian version at least, still use couple of lines in the real life from time to time.

Что бы играть нормально надо пройти через танцы с бубном. А именно скачивание доп файлов и редактирование конфига. Но все же игра уже слишком старая не смог в нее играть. Хотя рекомендую любителям жанра и тем кто хочет понастольгировать по детству.

Ich habe mich sehr auf das Spiel gefreut da es einer der wenigen turn Base spiele es wo man noch ein bisschen mit den Charakter während des Zuges arbeiten kann wie z.B anvisieren oder etwas plündern was man in den meisten turn Base Spielen nicht hat. Da wählt man eine Attacke aus und das war's dann meistens. Doch leider ist die Steuerung nicht gut gealtert deshalb kann ich das Spielen nur für Leute empfehlen die wirklich Arbeit in der Spiel reinstecken wollen.
AI is broken in the Steam version. Most enemies stand even if they are being fired upon.

10 hrs in ... tactical. rpg progression. funny voice-acted dialogue. satisfying shooting and explosions. challenging. and wrap that all up in some jank from its age, which if you can get through, you'll realize it's WW2 Xcom. Fun to play, and work your way through the various missions.
20 hrs in...Edit: oh and now there's laser beams and mechanical destruction suits of armor...even better

Silent Storm Gold Edition is an ancient game from 2004. It's a whopping 21 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware.
This is a Russian "me too" strategy game, think Commandos with marginally better graphics but overall not quite as good. If this was 2004, I might even be able to say this was a recommendable game, but it is not 2004 anymore, and the game simply hasn't been maintained in any great depth... yet the developer is still seeking to get paid for it.
On the upside, the game does feature customisable controls and resolution, so at least some of the basic, minimum requirements have been met. Unfortunately there's a number of other technical defects and shortcomings which contribute to the game being difficult to recommend to gamers.
The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio, due to the age of the game, it predates the 16:9 widescreen gaming standard established back in 2006. It's possible they're marketing this towards people using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game is being specifically marketed towards people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. It's obviously not going to look right on a modern 16:9 gaming display.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 110,000+ games on Steam?
Silent Storm Gold Edition is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $10 USD, and it's not worth it. The game is just too old, hasn't been modernised. And as the old saying goes, you can't go home again.
For comparison, the $10 asking price for this game could get you modern games like "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter", "Mirror's Edge" or "Cities: Skylines". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.

Invisible enemies having a 50% chance to appear when quick loading, buggy and unintuitive line of sight, terrific pathfinding (I click next to the stairs, dude goes one floor down). Dubious gameplay decisions (one would think special forces would know how to use a damn gun against enemies twenty feet away, especially when said enemies are one floor down. Or learning how to throw grenades more than ten feet away with their noodle arms). In the same vein, my guys are blind because they can't see enemies down the street (but they can hear them just fine, lol). Why?
This game wishes it was half as good as the original X-COM games but instead it's slop. The only way to suffer through this is to press "Quick Load" each time something goes wrong because the game is stupid. Talk about a let down and a waste of time.

Silent Storm — это отличная тактическая игра, которая впечатляет своими фишками для 2004 года. Качество озвучки: как на английском, так и на русском языке отличные. У миссий есть реиграбельность, можно их по-разному проходить, благодаря рандому и физике. А разрушаемость мира в Silent Storm на высшем уровне! Это действительно круто, потому что даже в серии XCOM разрушения довольно упрощены. Тут же можно разрушить стены, полы, потолки, двери, а иногда и целые здания, что влияет на тактику, особенно обожаю возможность прострелов в любую точку карты. Физика в игре тоже не разочаровывает: гранаты, пули и даже тела — все ведет себя по-разному, что делает каждое действие уникальным. Каждый выстрел и взрыв чувствуется, как физический объект, и это добавляет игре невероятной динамики. В общем, если вам нравится тактика с глубокой физикой и разнообразием возможностей — эта игра точно для вас!
Сам ознакомился с данной игрой где-то ещё 10-15 лет назад, полюбил жанр пошаговых стратегий благодаря этой игре.

Игра определенно стоит того, чтобы поставить на нее патч, жалко, конечно, что ее так оставили без поддержки.
Мне очень понравилась вездесущая разрушаемость окружения, а в одной из последних миссий первой игры одним неосторожным выстрелом вообще разнес здание от подвала до крыши, из-за чего аж крашнулась игра, но, в общем и целом, очень классное творение, приятно, что делали отечественные разработчики, больше бы такого нам.

The Good:
-Huge number of iconic WW2 (and sci-fi) weapons, items and gadgets
-Fully, YES FULLY, destructable enviroments (for 2004 this was inconceivable), hear something on the second floor of a building? Blast it, bring down the whole floor down. Need a new door to enter a building, see a wall? Hans get the panzershrek
-Large maps with at times battle featuring multiple phases
The Bad:
-Near the endgame of a campaign the grounded in reality battles become outdated as you and the enemy start deploying armoured powered suits (Panzer-klein's) that invalidate most small arms weaponry and come equiped with plasma weaponry of their own
-Voiceline amount is not that high so be prepared to keep hearing the same annoying quip each time you do the most basic of actions
-AI has no way to deal with you abusing the Erwin Rommel school of battle - hiding behind corners and shooting the enemy when they come closer, the same is with the stealth mechanic
The Ugly:
-Would of been glad if the Axis and Allies were only given their own weaponry, you could scavange enemy weapons but no ammo should be provided for them back at base, unlike the sequel "Sentinels" it makes no sense why is the player restricted in this way and is only able to get actual good weapons near the end of a campaign and in limited amounts
-The story is on the weaker side so do not expect much in the way of plot
-There is nothing else like this game and chances are there will never be again, which makes me sad
I remembered this game exists because I found my physical CD copy in my desk while cleaning

Замечательный представитель тактических пошаговых стратегий, ещё и разработанный, на мой скромный взгляд, одной из лучших на момент выхода игры отечественных компаний Nival. В своё время Silent Storm неагрессивно пиарили в игровых журналах, и уже тогда казалось, что получится что-то необычное, а когда игра вышла, то заслуженно стала хитом. Уникальными особенностями геймплея являются практически полная разрушаемость строений на картах, изменение ландшафта и немного аляповатая, но рабочая рэгдолл физика тел.
Начнём с не самого удачного момента, чтобы потом перейти только к приятным, — это сюжет. Нет, он не так плох, но полон клише, в чём-то похож на графоманию писателей-попаданцев и совершенно вторичен по отношению к другим деталям игры. Отчего же сыр-бор загорелся? На дворе 1943 год, раздираемая Второй мировой войной Европа. Очень тайная террористическая организация «Молот Тора» вынашивает коварные планы по захвату мира. Шишки из руководства «Молота» понимают, что их уникальных планов невозможно достичь, пока в мире есть военно-политические силы, способные им противостоять, поэтому террористы разрабатывают секретное орбитальное лучевое оружие. Выведя эту лучепушку на орбиту, «Молот Тора» сможет диктовать свою волю буквально всем, но способа её доставки туда нет, а нужная ракета, по секретным разведданным, разрабатывается у немцев. Подсуетившись и походя придумав уникальные боевые экзоскелеты, «Молот Тора» выходит на обмен технологиями с немецким генералом Отто Бауэром, и всё заверте... Видите, про это я и писал в начале: эта криптоистория выглядит немного нелепо и отдаёт комиксами (а ими отдаёт и внешний вид игры, что, впрочем, его совершенно не портит).
Примерно где-то здесь стартует новая игра. Вначале нам дают возможность создать нашего главного героя: выбрать имя, пол и внешность, класс (о них ниже) и стартовые очки, а также страну происхождения. На выбор две группы — США, Великобритания, СССР и Германия, Япония, Италия. Выбор группы определит и выбор кампании для прохождения, в каждой из которых разные миссии приведут историю к одной финальной точке. После создания альтер эго мы смотрим вступительный ролик и попадаем на первую карту.
Вся игра выполнена в полном 3D с разбивкой игровых карт на этажи — любителям пошаговых стратегий типа X-Com или Jagged Alliance этот метод хорошо знаком. Графика на момент выхода была прекрасна: все объекты отрисованы с достаточным количеством полигонов, арт-дизайн в должной мере яркий и контрастный — стиль художников Nival того времени узнаётся сразу. В миссиях может идти дождь или снег, быть яркий день или глубокая ночь. Словом, всё понятно, детально и просто кра-си-во. Музыка, правда, звёзд с неба не хватает, но со своей задачей справляется, а звуки все бахают как надо (никогда не спутаете очередь ППС и MG-42). И во всей этой красоте мы будем воевать.
Ах, бой в Silent Storm! Как же он прекрасен! Всё сразу и не расписать, настолько тут много нюансов. Пока враг вас не видит (или пока врага нет на карте), игра идёт в реальном времени, но с начала боестолкновения переходит в пошаговый режим с расходом очков действия. Каждый персонаж может принимать разные положения тела, влияющие на незаметность, меткость и скорость перемещения, у оружия есть режимы стрельбы (навскидку — прицельный и снайперский выстрелы, короткая очередь, длинная очередь). Стрелять можно по разным участкам тела, вызывая особые статусы (например, стрельба по рукам заставит врага выронить оружие). Да что там, стрелять можно на звук, не видя противника! А ещё тут есть снайперская стрельба с накоплением очков действия на выстрел. Скрытое перемещение. Стрельба через стены. Мины и растяжки. Рабочий рикошет, реалистично-пафосные позы при стрельбе и, конечно, самое главное — разрушаемость. Метко брошенной РГ-42 можно снести половину комнаты на втором этаже здания и внезапно нагрянуть с визитом к врагу на первом. А можно перед этим закинуть ещё пару лимонок и добраться до подвала… Разрушаемость крайне удачно встроена в геймплей и дарит необычные способы прохождения.
Из таких стычек игра и состоит практически полностью, между миссиями разбавляясь походами на базу для пополнения запаса оружия, лечения раненых, получения нового брифинга и HR-менеджмента своей группы, хотя никто не мешает проходить её только своим роднулькиным, не прибегая к помощи дополнительных пяти бойцов. К сожалению, экономики у базы нет: всё оружие с инструментами вам выдают бесплатно, а «найм» солдата и роспуск происходят в один клик и тоже по доброте душевной. Бойцы не обладают особым характером, как в серии игр Jagged Alliance, хотя полдюжины харизматичных ребят всегда наберётся, — по крайней мере, у всех есть свои уникальные реплики.
Любой боец обладает определённым классом — он может быть медиком, снайпером, разведчиком, гренадёром, солдатом или инженером. Каждый из упомянутых классов сфокусирован на своём деле и не так подкован в остальных, хотя никаких запретов в использовании предметов, умений и оружия нет — он определяет только скорость роста определённых навыков: например, разведчик быстрее качает скрытность, а гренадёр — метание гранат. Навыков всего десять: пять строго боевых (стрельба очередями, например) и пять, скажем так, «не строго» (медицина), хотя это деление условно, потому что 95% игры проходит в бою и все эти навыки так или иначе используются в нём. Умения растут от частоты применения, а персонаж получает опыт, чтобы при переходе на новый уровень прокачать классовое мастерство на особом «дереве». Как же приятно распределять эти новые очки! У каждого класса своё дерево умений и уникальные фишки: разведчик с ростом уровней станет бегать не издавая шума, солдат — останавливать длинную очередь в момент смерти цели, чтобы не тратить лишние очки хода, а снайпер начнёт бить врага через всю карту, стреляя почти без прицеливания.
В игре богатейший арсенал оружия, состоявшего на вооружении Союзников и стран Оси в 1943 году. Тут вы найдёте как всем известные винтовки, пистолеты-пулемёты, карабины, пулемёты, ножи и гранаты, так и нечто экспериментальное. Я, правда, не возьмусь судить о точности ТТХ, но в игре разные образцы вооружения ощутимо различаются в скорости, уроне и дальности. Бойцы могут приноравливаться к своей берданочке (за это отвечает параметр «привычка»), что ещё больше улучшит работу с оружием. Да, есть ещё панцеркляйны — это что-то типа очень бронированных экзоскелетов с тяжёлым оружием, которые вступят в игру ближе к концу. Честно говоря, я никогда сильно ими не пользовался, хотя в виде разнообразия геймплея считаю их удачным решением.
Интерфейс и управление Silent Storm'а я до сих пор считаю эталоном для тактических стратегий. Все кнопки и пиктограммы логичны и понятны, стиль оформления лаконичный, и вы никогда не спутаете значок получения уровня и, допустим, пиктограмму улики. На мышку повешено управление бойцами и камерой, а на клавиатуре удобно расположились горячие клавиши для выбора положения тела, режима стрельбы и места попадания (на NumPad'е), блока поворота, стрельбы и остановки, — словом, всё, что нужно, под рукой.
Игру можно проходить как разведчиком соло, тихо вырезая врагов по одному и получая весь опыт партии, так и сработанной группой боевых коммандос, раскидывая гранаты веером и поливая тлеющие груды кирпичей длинными очередями, — все способы на удивление приятны и работают. Итог простой: любите пошаговую тактику — быстрее играйте. Крайне рекомендую всем, кто ещё не.

Although I like elements of this game I think there are too many things I'm not keen on.
Pros
There's a decent array of weapons, it's not all that obvious I think for beginners how to equip the inventory and make sure the ammo matches the weapons etc but I kinda figured it out and I think the idea of familiarity with a weapon makes sense.
The game mechanics (combat etc) seemed broadly OK.
I thought the idea of being able to hear the enemy (in cases where you can't see them) was a good concept though not sure about the implementation in a couple of cases (see below).
Cons
I felt like in a lot of cases it was not really obvious to me what constitutes good "cover" - in XCOM for example it's made very clear what is half / full cover - in this game I honestly have no idea if going through / behind the trees for example is helping at all - and it wasn't really clear to me (for example) how to stand in cover at a doorway and effectively lean out / use the doorway or wall as cover while firing out at approaching enemy. I think there is a better mechanic in XCOM that I think it assumes your unit will lean out round a corner to fire while continuing to remain behind the cover.
Clicking on stuff feels very fiddly - in particular, how many times did I select Character A....then try to select Character B...and because I just missed clicking on the right spot for Character B, instead I have actually told A to move to stand next to B. And a lot of the items (weapons, clips etc) are so small that you really have to squint at the screen to click on exactly the right spot to pick them up.
Getting stuck due to AI-controlled friendly units milling around in the building blocking a doorway.
The AI turn takes.....sooooo long.......I feel like it should not be this slow.
It was not clear to me as a new player what the objectives were in some scenarios - eventually worked out that to take stuff "off map" you need to take the item + your team to the edge of the map but it does not seem clear to me at all how you are supposed to understand that as a new player. Also objectives like making an enemy "unconscious" - to a new player it doesn't seem that clear if you are allowed to shoot him as medically you'd think that shooting someone would be considered a risky approach to achieving unconsciousness (though in practice in this case it did turn out that shooting him repeatedly was the required step).
Similarly in terms of the overall story it just feels quite random, and not really that obvious what the next scenario or plot step is.
This might sound strange but I find some of the scenarios etc just distractingly bizarre like I turn up at a building which is supposed to be British-controlled...guards on the front gate etc....so head inside and immediately take a grenade to the face as one of the doors inside the building has been booby-trapped by one of the many Germans who are hanging around upstairs and in the basement....doing what exactly...making themselves a nice cup of tea? With the British guards on the front gate seemingly unaware that the building has half the German army hanging around inside it turning it into a death trap...and then as the battle starts all the AI-controlled friendly units who had seemingly been quite peaceful under German occupation start milling around in a crouch which just looks kinda funny. Similarly as I'm driving around the British countryside there are random encounters with Germans on the road...because after all, it's historical fact that during WW2 most British countryside roads had German checkpoints set up on them. I mean I get this is a game so sure I should probably suspend my disbelief but some of it was a bit head-scratching.
There were a few times I was pretty sure the German soldier was stood in full view of my units but I still just got the outline (i.e. I can hear but not see)
As I think one of the other reviews pointed out, there's no marker or indicator that I can see to remind you which is the solider, medic etc - if you are going to have classes like this then they should be an important / hard to miss part of the game.
The fact that you can accidentally shoot your own units if they are standing between you and your target is fine for realism but I would prefer if either the shot was considered "blocked" (i.e. you just can't shoot because your character can see there is someone in the way) or there is an obvious warning on screen of the risk of friendly fire. I don't see why you wouldn't have this as surely in reality the person shooting would be able to see the friendly unit in the way - for me it was just annoying as I was trying to guess if a friendly unit was really in the line of fire.
In some cases the % chance to hit seemed a bit odd e.g. there are two of my guys with automatic weapons at one end of a corridor and two Germans at the other end. The corridor is about the width of two people so I figure my guys literally can't miss because the Germans are occupying most of the width of the corridor so my guys literally just need to make sure they fire down the corridor, but the % chance to hit is like 5-6% and my guys don't land a single hit despite firing quite long bursts. I dunno what a realistic number / outcome is here but it just seemed a bit odd cos I felt like I was in an excellent position but the game is saying nope not so much.

There is some bizarre dialogue, probably my favourite was a German walking through a door, taking an entire machine gun clip to the face and declaring he is "getting a bad feeling" as his corpse slides down the stairs. I mean it's kinda funny so sure but I don't think the little dialog bits are really necessary.
It's quite easy to get your characters killed, or at least I found it quite easy. In some ways I like the realism but when there are things like booby traps in buildings that your own side literally controls etc then it does mean there is a fair casualty rate. I think that combining the fact that characters can get killed quite easily with the fact that to me it's not really that clear what constitutes good cover is not a good combination.
Overall
XCOM etc is just a better game - although this game has its plus points for me it has too many flaws and feels too clunky and slow and old for me to really want to play it (and I generally don't mind older games).

Много часов наиграно еще во времена, когда устанавливал игру с купленного диска, в частности в Часовых. Спустя столько лет после выхода все еще увлекает. Дело даже не в ностальгии, просто игра сделана очень качественно, уделено много внимания мелким деталям - чувствуется, что создавали с душой. В игре представлен широкий арсенал детально проработанного вооружения своего времени, графика и сейчас смотрится приятно, а разрушаемость окружения это вообще отдельная фишка игры.
Большое спасибо талантливым разработчикам из Nival за сей шедевр.

I have been playing games like this for a very long time. In fact, just finished a play though of JA3.
Seems fairly balanced. Combat works great.
Graphics are mediocre. Reminds me of games in the '90s.
Interface is clunky. Maybe I'm just spoiled by JA3 and other games, but having to switch ready items to use them (healing or grenades) then select the action is one step too many.
No option to rearrange the squad members and no markers to show specialization - engineer, sniper, medic.
No key bindings or options to change any of the controls beyond switching the x/y axis on the mouse.
The common key uses in most games is missing. ESC does,t bring up the menu, you have to select a button on the interface. Camera controls aren't WASDQE, only the mouse controls the camera.
Selecting a location for units to move to isn't very precise. It seems as if the grid they used for movement is too large.
I just couldn't get into the game.
I tried a couple of times, but the interface really doesn't lend itself to playing on a PC.

I had this game twenty years ago and it's still a very good game for fans of turn-based strategy games. I remembered this was a good game, but it was better. Good ww2 atmosphere and destruction.
Zajímavý příběh, výborný herní systém. Štvalo mě jen, že tahový mód nejde vypnout (stačí civilisté, aby se nevypnul). Závěr jsem byl schopen udělat jenom s patchem, pozor na to. Štěstí, že je to ve fóru popsáno. Jinak mě to hodně bavilo spíše jen do příchodu PK, bylo to autentičtější. Obešel bych se bez sci-fi prvků :-)
Garbage. What a disappointment. It could've been great but one thing completely ruins the whole game. Your characters are all basically blind. They'll look into a room in all directions and not see anyone. Then step into to room only to have some guy standing in the corners unload his clip on them and kill them in one turn. Even worse are the times where they don't spot an enemy out in the open standing only a few feet away. The enemy will get to attack first unless you activate combat first which you won't know to do because he'll be standing right in front of you and be invisible. Pure garbage. Such a shame.
