Screamer 1995 года - представитель классических аркадных гонок той эпохи, которого знают и помнят только какие-нибудь динозавры. Оно и неудивительно - серия достаточно старая и непродолжительная. И когда было анонсировано переосмысление - только тогда люди узнали/вспомнили, что у игры оказывается корни есть.
И вот буквально за несколько недель до выхода новинки я решил прикоснуться к оригиналу и понять чем же он таким был и как людей цеплял.
[h2]Об игре[/h2]
Screamer 1995 года - это стандартная аркадная гонка со стандартными режимами, которой всё же есть чем зацепить хотя бы на мизерное время.
Несмотря на свой весьма пожилой возраст, у Screamer достаточно, имхо, приятная картинка, однако я готов поспорить с тем, что такая "классическая" графика понравится далеко не каждому. Тут надо быть либо любителем такого визуала, либо словить ностальгию по былым и славным временам от одного лишь только её вида.
И вот геймплей. Что о нём сказать? Ну... есть быстрая гонка, чемпионат, тайм атак, а также сбитие конусов за один круг. Стандартный набор, который сейчас мало чем сможет удивить, но тогда, понятное дело - этого было более, чем достаточно.
Другой вопрос: А как оно играется? Быть может физика, транспорт, трассы способны скрасить такое разнообразие? Ну... возраст всё же сказывается. И нет, физика в игре очень даже отзывчивая и приятная для аркады тех лет, а автопарк пусть сейчас и кажется весьма скудным, но достаточным (6 машин + их альт. версии с ручной коробкой, а также 1 бонусная). Все машинки хоть и вымышленные, но их образы с легкостью распознаются с каких они были вдохновлены. Ну а рулятся все они... ну... стандартно: Если японец - значит сносит в занос без разговоров. Если дорогой суперкар - держак максимальный. Но что стоит отметить - в игре у машин нехило кренит кузов на поворотах (на каких-нибудь суперкарах это выглядит весьма странно и забавно), а ещё есть вид от первого лица (точнее от приборной панели) и вот в совокупности с аркадной физикой, проходить гонки с ним было весьма интересно, до тех пор, пока не выезжал за пределы трассы. В таких моментах тряска камера весьма интенсивная и переключиться обратно тебе хочется как можно скорей.
Ну и сами трассы. Что про них сказать? Они достаточно разнообразны и уникальны, в них что-то да происходит и их... также 6 штук, как и машин. Тут разработчики явно делали упор на то, чтобы игрок пикал нужную машину для каждой трассы соответственно, хотя и не сказать, что это как-то важно - главное адаптироваться. Единственное, что точно может вызвать раздражение сейчас - это перепрохождение этих же трасс в чемпионате. Дело в том, что чемпионат проходит по всем этим трассам 4 раза (новичок, любитель, профессионал и финальный с боссом). Окей, трассы непродолжительны, кроме одной, а ещё можно машинки менять между ними, что тоже привносит разнообразие, но всё же... ты под конец начинаешь малость уставать: Соперники не представляют какой-либо угрозы, кроме той, если они едут одним большим скоплением и от малейшего столкновения велик шанс разложиться, ведь чаще всё ты с лёгкостью уходишь в отрыв и с гордым одиночеством можешь проштудировать всю трассу, изредка натыкаясь на ботов. И только последние 2 чемпионата давались мне уже куда трудней, так как там боты имели уже куда серьёзней разгон и даже гони ты идеально - они будут на хвосте.
И остаётся саундтрек. И что тут сказать... я его не запомнил от слова совсем. Да, он был прикольный, задавал настроение, но выйдя после окончания прохождения - я ничего не могу вспомнить оттуда, кроме комментатора гонок, который то и дело мог как похвалить, так и обозвать.

Screamer образца 1995 года в 2026 году (31 год уже, жесть) проходится... неплохо, но только если вы фанатеете по играм тех лет, обожаете эстетику такой графики или просто хотите поностальгировать по тем былым временам. В остальных случаях можно пройти мимо.
Тогда оригинальный Screamer явно мог восприниматься как золото в своём жанре, но по прошествии времени так уже будет тяжело сказать. Сейчас это просто добротная аркадная гонка, чтобы скрасить пару часов и не более.
Screamer is still an addictive blast — pure arcade energy with those wonderfully unrealistic powerslides that made it iconic. I loved it back in the day, and revisiting it now reminds me why. My only real frustration is the lack of proper gamepad support; I just can’t quite get comfortable with the controls anymore. But aside from that, the charm and speed are absolutely still there, and I like it more than I expected.
I was eager to play the new Screamer of 2026, so decided to check this one out. The game is quite fun, I really enjoy playing these oldschool racing games, figuring out their quirky handling and gambling with their chaotic physics. I'm sure that in 1995 this was one of, if not the best home playable experience of an arcade racing game (that is until Ridge Racer came out at least). That being said, I ended up refundind just about when I got to the pro championship. It simply crashes too much. I even tried to fix it with the community guide, but it didn't work. Whoever is publishing these old games is probably just paying scraps for a dead liscence, removing it from abandonware status and porting a barely functional producto straight into windows 10/11. No controller suport, no rebindable keys, no widescreen aspect ratio, no fine volume adjustments. Nothing. There are new games that came out this year that are cheaper, more polished, have greater replayability and online features, that one could be playing instead of this. I enjoyed it and would have kept it if it were a respectful port, but as is, I don't recommend it, even if you are an oldschool racing game fan. Now off to spend my refunded money on Parking Garage Rally Circuit.
it's fun, crashes sometimes but is fun
Отличная ретро-аркада, с цветастыми машинами,бодрой музычкой и весёлым комментатором. Куча разных режимов, четыре лиги чемпионата, победа в котором позволяет буквально прокатиться верхом на пуле. Забавные чит-коды, и хорошая по тем временам, графика. В общем зацение, если ещё не видели, знаменитая серия.
PS Если будут проблемы с вылетами, загляните в руководства, там есть парочка рабочих советов по устранению неполадок.

Endlich. Ist nicht das erste Mal seit Mitte der 90er Jahre, dass ich versuche, Bleifuss/Screamer auf neueren Computern zu spielen. Die Versionen, die ich bisher hatte, zuletzt auf GOG, funzten aber nicht, das Spiel war schlicht nicht steuerbar. Die Steam-Variante funktioniert tatsächlich direkt nach Installation. Es ist natürlich erstmal ein Schock, die Grafik, der Sound, die Kollisionen mit anderen Autos - da hat sich in den letzten fast 30 Jahren doch was getan...;-) Aber man sollte auch den Nostalgie-Faktor nicht unterschätzen. Es dauert keine 2 Strecken, bis man den Bogen wieder raus bekommt und halbwegs elegant durch die Kurven driftet. Ich glaube aber nicht, dass ich den gleichen Ehrgeiz wie in meiner Jugend entwickeln werde und auf jeder Strecke um Zehntelsekunden kämpfe. Dafür sind die neueren Funracer, allen voran Forza Horizon 5, doch zu abwechslungsreich und gut. Aber den Karrieremodus werde ich trotzdem nochmal durchfahren, um am Ende das Raketenauto freizuschalten...

[b]Screamer[/b] - это ставшая уже ретро аркадная автогонка от ныне мотоциклетной компании Milestone.
Больше всего проект, как снаружи, так и внутри, напоминает Daytona USA, хотя по разнообразию локаций его часто сравнивают с первой NFS.
По красоте картинки - чуть ли не лучшая 3D-игра своего года выпуска, где можно сбивать конусы-ограды и мчаться под вертолётом и самолетом, глядя на работающий рядом кран или проезжающий трамвай! А ещё тут есть повторы гонки всяких видов и 4 типа камеры!
Проект эмулируется в DOSBox, "нативной" версии для современных ОС нет.
Игра предлагает несколько однопользовательских режимов, настройки в главном меню распространяются на все (от 3 до 25 кругов и сложность компьютерных оппонентов).
- В обычной игре выбираем одну трассу для катания и машину по выбору.
Треков в игре всего 6 (5+1 перепрофилированный), но изначально доступны только 3. Все 12 машин доступны сразу (кроме секретки за последний чемпионат) и отличаются непереключаемым типом КП и раскраской, а также различными показателями характеристик ускорения и держака. На максимальную скорость не надо обращать внимания, т.к. все машинки выдают по 340 км/ч вне зависимости от описания.
- Чемпионат - серия из 4-х повторов прохождения всех 6 трасс. С каждым разом скорость ИИ-соперников немного повышается. Всегда есть цель прийти не ниже 3-го места и выше. Можно спокойно переиграть гонку в любой момент, так и после неудачи - игра сохраняется после успешного финиша и ничего не стирает.
До pro-соревнований на профессиональной сложности игра слишком легка, потом плотная группа соперников просто держится дольше рядом с игроком.
Я не парился и гонял на машине под номером 6 (у неё максимальные совместные показатели ускорения и держака).
В лучшем случае уходит 16 минут на 1 под-чемпионат. В качестве награды дают плюшки в виде [spoiler]автомобиля-ракеты, который всего-то на 17 км/ч быстрее всех прочих, и открывают обычные/обратные треки для быстрой игры[/spoiler].
- Дополнительные режимы:
а) закончить круг, пока не истекло время;
б) закончить круг, пока не истекло время, сбивая конусы и получая за это дополнительные секунды;
в) закончить круг, пока не истекло время, проезжая через ворота и получая за это дополнительные секунды.
Я не упоминал про секундомер, отсчитывающий время до фиаско при недостигнутой контрольной точке - при игрании этот элемент вообще незаметен.
Никаких сложностей для любителей аркадных покатушек тут нет. Надо просто заучить повороты и перед входом в них вовремя сбрасывать скорость путём не торможения, а отжимания кнопки газа. Так-то тормоз пригодится единственный раз только для змейки на 6-й трассе.
Кричать тут хочется только от продолжительности - всего 2 часа для полного прохождения на про-сложности!!! Я прошел где-то за 2,5 - просто тупица, который не хотел делать двойничок под 90 градусов на третьей трассе.
При столкновении машин идущий сзади отлетает и теряет скорость - т.е. в игре есть и некая тактика выноса соперников, от которой ценность аккуратного вождения повышается.
Прочее:
- сетевой режим (не проверял, но вроде запускается);
- зал рекордов - хранит не только записи циферками, но и повторы лучших 5 гонок на трассе!
- присутствует подгоняющий действо голосовой комментатор, который иногда опаздывает с репликами.
У Steam-версии есть заморочки с вылетами.
Первый раз игра вылетела после первой итерации чемпионата. Потом я играл по паре гонок и она предательски завершилась 2 раза на самой-самой последней.
Пишут, что помогает изменение параметра на "memsize=128" в файле dosboxScreamer.conf в папке с игрой. Это мне помогло или нет - не знаю, советуют также ставить низкую детализацию и/или выключить музыку.
Опять же, игра сохраняется после экрана результатов заезда, так что больше одной гонки переигрывать не придётся (а это, в худшем случае, меньше 5 минут).
HD-вывод просто не настраивается - играем в 4:3 с полосами по бокам.
Небольшой бонус - присутствие PDF-руководства пользователя на английском.
Т.к. Dayton'у на ПК завозили 25 с лишним лет назад, а на 30-летие NFS нам, возможно, преподнесут лишь переделку самой коммерчески успешной части, придётся любителям ретро в Steam довольствоваться лишь "Крикунами" да "Хорошими днями".
Перевыпуск Rumble Racing? Дилогии Burnout? Rollcage и San Francisco Rush? Не смешите акционеров!
Screamer, как по мне - не шедевр, но играть в него можно и сегодня, правда, с некоторой оглядкой в прошлое.

Steam Deck player. I have linked the game to ProtonExperimental, otherwise it will not start. Then perfectly playable on the Steam Deck. I have arranged the keys differently, it does not work well if the gas and brake are under the four-point key together with the steering. It's an old game that will give you a headache, it's still enjoyable if you like old dos racing games with arcade vibes.
If you're looking for a hyper-realistic racing experience, keep on driving. But if you're in the market for a lighthearted, charming throwback to the '90s, Screamer might just be your pit stop. The graphics might feel a tad dated, but they come with an endearing charm that's hard to resist.
The car selection is limited, with cheeky nods to the iconic super cars from the '90s, and the track list isn't exhaustive. Yet, there's something pure about the gameplay that makes it addictively entertaining. Perfect for those moments when you just want a casual racing fix without the bells and whistles. Highly recommended for some quick fun on the race track! 🚗💨

Essendo classe '83 ed avendo vissuto il mondo videoludico degli anni 90 vedendo questo titolo su STEAM mi è presa voglia di rigiocarlo!! Che dire..rigiocare a questo Screamer è stato piacevole ed emozionante ma aimè non privo di qualche delusione!!! Il gioco in questione è stato riproposto paro paro a quello dei S. O. dell'epoca senza alcun tipo di ottimizzazione..pecca...continui crash in gioco!!! Peccato!!!
Acheté pour les besoins d'une vidéo, je savais pas trop à quoi m'attendre. D'autant que les évaluations sont moyennes...
Le jeu est plutôt sympa, il a vieilli, ça se sent dans le gameplay mais également sur les graphismes avec des pistes qui se chargent littéralement devant notre bagnole.
La difficulté est plutôt faible d'où j'en suis, peut-être qu'elle se corse ensuite mais même après un bug je suis passé de dernière à première en moins d'une minutes... Le gameplay est un peu bizarre au début, et il varie d'une voiture à l'autre. Certains véhicules tournent mieux que d'autres, certains sont plus puissants et surtout attention, certains sont en boîte auto et d'autre en boite manuelle, ce n'est pas une option mais bien défini par la voiture choisie.
Les musiques du jeu sont cools, les sons sont ok.
Par contre, il reste cher, surtout pour son âge... Attendez les promos pour le prendre s'il vous intéresse. C'est pas le meilleur jeu de course, mais il est cool quand meme ^^

Este es un juego al que jugaba de adolescente y que me encantaba, salvo por una pequeña cosa: el juego petaba en la quinta carrera siempre. Daba igual cómo lo configurara o en el ordenador en el que jugara que siempre me pasaba lo mismo.
Pues bien, el fallo sigue estando puesto que se trata del juego tal cual, sin ningún tipo de retoque o mejora.
Es una lástima, puesto que es un clásico divertido y creo que con unas pocas horas de dedicación se podría pulir el tema de las petadas y mejorar el soporte para mandos (uso Xpadder para poder mapear los botones del teclado y que todo funcione correctametne).
Ya no hablo de mejorar los gráficos o la jugabilidad... al fin y al cabo los que compramos este juego es por el recuerdo y nos gusta tal y como era, pero sí unos mínimos de ética, que te están vendiendo de nuevo un juego con más de 20 años sin arreglar absolutamente nada y ejecutándolo mediante un emulador libre.
Lástima...
Jugué a esta MARAVILLA cuando salió en 1995, con su caja grande de cartón, cd, manual e incluso una carta de garantía!!.
Fue el mejor juego en su momento y a día de hoy para mi sigue siéndolo, tanto que lo tengo en Steam y GOG.
La única sombra que tiene este juego es simplemente su Emulador, hay que modificar el archivo "dosboxScreamer.conf" para que use 128 bits de memoria (Parametro "memsize=128") y asi evitar el crasheo constante.
Este juego en su momento me encantaba tanto que en el CD había un ejecutable para acceder a la pantalla de configuración de tu SoundBlaster y me pasaba horas ahí solo para escuchar la magnífica banda sonora, hasta que descubri que pulsando la tecla F8 si no recuerdo mal.. podías acceder al selector de pistas en mitad de una carrera y escuchar la música que querías.
Es un juego 100% recomendable que debería ser comprado y jugado, es un "Must Have"

Three things:
1. It's a 1995 Dos game so don't expect modern features.
2. It was quite crashy even when I used to play it on windows 98 dosmode so it's not just a bad emulation.
3. Buy it on sale £6.99 is too expensive when this cost me £5 back in the late 90's.
Bearing those in mind I'd recommend it as a piece of DOS gaming nostalgia, type in the cheats to unlock cars and tracks and it's a piece of retro fun.
Not bad for 1995, but there are probably better racing games nowadays. It also crashed twice in less than an hour.
Played a Demo of this game back in 1998 at a friends house, the graphics, the colours. It's a classic 1990's arcade racer. Over shadowed by NFS release in the 1990's so probably didn't quite get the traction it wanted, having said that it much have been enough for Milestone to release: Screamer 2. Screamer Rally and Screamer 4x4.
I should note that although it says 0.5hrs played on steam, that does not represent the HOURS played before I purchased it on steam. Fun game. IF you like games like Sega Rally, Daytona USA, ect then you'll love this.

Игра явно делалась с оглядкой на другие подобные игры того времени, такие как Ridge Racer, Sega Rally Championship/Daytona USA и другие.
Графика здесь красивая даже на сегодняшний день. Присутствуют 3 трассы. Можно играть их по отдельности, либо чемпионат.
Игра неплохая, но у неё неотзывчивое управление. Машины поворачивают очень плохо. Если вы готовы смириться с тугим управлением, то я рекомендую вам эту игру.
This is an excellent game from the 90's that I still find entertaining to this day, despite lacking a lot of features that more modern racing games have. The music is probably the best I've heard in a racing game (with Moto Racer as a close contender). I was really looking forward to playing it again when I saw that it was available on Steam, but I only got 5-10 minutes out of it before it crashed on me ... and unfortunately it happens everytime I try to play it. So unfortunately I can't recommend people buying this game, even though the game itself is good – it just seems that the ones who made it available on Steam didn't do a very good job of making sure it actually runs properly.

Os gráficos são bem antigos e quadrados, mas o jogo é de 95 e não usa GPU, todo o 3D é de CPU
Tem 2 mecetes aí em baixo, mas mesmo assim recomendo para quem gosta de jogos antigos
Dicas:
- Se travar ao completar uma corrida de campanha (as vezes acontece mas é bug do jogo e não do port):
1. Altere em 'dosboxScreamer_single.conf' starth.exe -> startl.exe
2. Inicie o jogo (estará em baixa resolução) termine a corrida e feche o jogo
3. Volte 'dosboxScreamer_single.conf' startl.exe -> starth.exe
- Caso tenha comprado o Screamer 2, é possível copiar as opções de controle:
1. Abra o Screamer 2 e edite os controles
2. Na pasta do Screamer 2\CONFIG copie o arquivo 'CONTROLS.CFG'
3. Na mesma pasta do Screamer cole (substitua) pelo arquivo do screamer 2
Be very careful when purchasing this game. Not that there isn't much wrong with Screamer other then the crashes. I just find it very very hard to recommend as an entire game on its own being released on Steam. It's more of an artifact then a game because of the kind of impact when released and the later game that went after it. I grew up playing Screamer Rally and I wanted to experience the games origins, so this was around and decided to purchase it, so that's satifiying on its own but then you don't really buy your way into success. The game however is clearly the more you play, the more you'll experience and understand what truly goes on but that was 1995 when gamers almost had more time with so little other alternatives like Ridge Racer, Test Drive or Need for Speed.
Screamer is a racing game which uses sports and exotic cars modelled after a Ferrari or a Porchse and put them onto a track to race on. Almost unseen then and is believeable considering there really isn't anything on it's time.
So the game isn't as welcome as it can as playing the arcade mode to see what's going on wouldn't let you win. So out of boredom and maybe to get the most out of the game, I decided to maybe try to sit in the championship mode but the game goes really easy on you and you can actually win races and experience the other content of the game which doesn't fail to deliver. Could see where the game was going with that.
The game physics isn't the best. Maybe really early game but slamming and rear ending other racers and find yourself against the wall is too unrealistic. The game AI cars slam into you and again find yourself against the wall. This would cost you the race in almost very case. The vehicles are extremely wide for the tracks, so getting to the first place is a challenge in the single player races as the tracks feel narrow. The game is flash with colorful graphics and the game does hold but loads of trial and error to winning races as the gameplay is dated.

Screamer è un gioco di guida arcade , abbastanza vecchiotto, uscito nel 1995. Graficamente bisogna ammettere che è invecchiato veramente male (anche se rapportato alla sua epoca era un giocone) , ma riesce a divertire ancora oggi.
A parte i nomi di fantasia (forse usati per via dei diritti?), quelle nel gioco sono tutte auto sportive e supercar degli anni 80-90 , auto che non hanno nulla da inviadiare a quelle di oggi.
Per il resto , bug non ne ho riscontrati , il gioco sembra girare fluido e senza problemi , non ho riscontrato ne rallentamenti o blocchi di qualsiasi genere.
L'unica pecca di questo gioco è il fatto che può essere giocato solo con la tastiera , i vari pad anche quelli più vecchi non vengono riconosciuti... E qui mi domando , cosa ci vuole a creare una patch per far si che almeno i pad più moderni vengano riconosciuti? Anche perchè giocarlo con la tastiera non è proprio il massimo.

[b]5.[/b] Новейшие тачки первой половины 90х годов. Ламбо Дьябло, Порш 911, Шеви Корветт, Бугатти Е110 и т.д.

Hmm... Ah, yes... This fine game exemplar seems to follow a heavy influence by the 90's old school games pioneered by SEGA's Daytona USA with a hint of Konami's Winding Heat...
And indeed... It was a shame I didn't have that marvellous pinnacle of the technology they called Pentium processor at the time to savor this experience...

This PC exclusive came out in late 1995, just a month after the original PlayStation NA and EU launch. It was a noble attempt to replicate a Ridge Racer/Daytona USA type arcade racer on standard x86 hardware, although in my opinion Screamer is much closer in feel to Ridge Racer than Daytona.
I loved this game back in 1996 on my Pentium 166-based PC, which could run the SVGA version, albeit at a framerate that was "acceptable" at best. It was bold, colourful and looked more like a true 3D arcade racer than any title that came before it. The tracks were - for the time - very detailed and full of moving decor; oil derricks, planes, helicopters, trains, etc. This level of detail came at the cost of the tracks being very short; no track takes more than 2 minutes to complete a lap. I imagine this is due to memory limitations; the minimum requirement was 8MB of RAM.
The 3D engine in this game was, again for pre-3D acceleration DOS, very impressive. The tracks and cars and the majority of the track decoration is fully 3D modelled. Everything is texturemapped; there are animated textures, transparent textures and a basic smoke particle effect, and the player-driven cars have basic fake reflectivity on the glass. Considering this runs 100% in software on a lowly 486-DX processor and above, this is beyond what any other PC driving game had done visually, including 1994's Need for Speed. This is the game's greatest strength.
Sadly, the tradeoff for all this eyecandy is the extremely restricted draw distance. Track geometry pops into view just metres beyond the car. I'm sure this was necessary to hit required performance targets on weaker PCs, and most other racers of this era - even 3DFX accelerated ones, including Screamer 2 - exhibited the same limitation to some degree, but it's extremely noticable here and constitutes the biggest visual flaw in the game.
The audio is typical 90s racing game fare. Loud, repetitive announcer spewing the same couple of lines every few seconds, completely generic rock-type music, completely generic engine noise and some pretty awful impact sounds. As in Ridge Racer, there is some ambient track sound - you can hear helicopters and planes as you drive under them which is a nice touch, but overall the audio in Screamer is... average.
As for the driving model - I'd describe it as "Ridge Racer minus the polish". It's basic, even for an arcade racer. The cars vary in top speed, grip and acceleration, but since the AI isn't going to be bothering you at anything but the highest difficulty level (in fact, if you're even halfway competent in Novice and Amateur you probably won't see your opponents after the starting line) just pick any car and you'll probably be fine. Drifting is purely dependent on whether a corner is designated as "driftable" in the engine (this is also how Ridge Racer works). Try to drift on a corner that isn't driftable and it simply won't happen.
With only six tracks (twelve if you count the mirrored versions), 12 cars (6 auto, 6 manual) and 1 special car you can only drive if you beat the championship on the hardest difficulty, there's not much replay value here, and you could pretty easily exhaust the content in a few hours.
It would be difficult to recommend this game unless you happened to be really interested in the history and development of PC racing games, or you're filled with nostalgia for your misspent youth. Condsidered by itself in 2018 this game is extremely dated. Considered as a snapshot - an example of an era in PC gaming - it's noteworthy.
It's part of my childhood, so it gets a thumbs up from me.
A classic in every sense of the word. Calling it the Duke Nukem 3D of arcade racing would be a stretch but it certainly was a thought popping up in my mind.
Low-poly arcade racing, old school unlocks (modes and tracks, through progression), run of the mill rock music and a cheesy commentator (that you can turn on and off at your leisure), what more could you ask for?
Well certainly not the old school crashes I remember from back then :P but if you can live with that and stay stubborn like I did you will get past them sooner or later. I only encountered two that happened at the exact same spot but it only occurred during the first lap and didn't occur past that point.
Even today I still had fun with this.
p.s.: I played this more than 11 minutes, about an hour and 30 minutes (not to mention the hours back in the day) but it was in offline mode and Steam doesn't take that properly into account

As it is often stressed, Graffiti's Screamer (aka Bleifuss) is a mixture between Namco's first Ridge Racer and Sega's Daytona USA. But to be more detailed: While the first track, the car design and of course the enthusiastic announcer will arouse the charm of Ridge Racer, the game overall (especially track design and gameplay) is more like Daytona. Although Screamer is not nearly as good as one of these giants, it's nonetheless a decent, delightful and very 90s arcade racer for PC.
Pros:
- Authentic 90s arcade racer feeling (although it was never in the arcades)
- Overall good and detailed track design (tracks itself and environment)
- Overall good presentation (intro, animated select screens etc.)
- Good arcady music (but with less character than Ridge Racer or Daytona)
- Pleasant sound effects (you can hear some things from the environment)
- Good and addicting driving mechanics
- An announcer that makes you smile
Cons:
- Sometimes the tracks feel too short and narrow
- Even the slightest collision with another racer is just horrible (it easily can bump you off the track)
A real classic. I played it for more than 3 hours now. Never experienced any crashes. Game runs like a charm for me. For people who don´t know the game - controls could be a little strange. It is an action racer and although I really love the game I hate the controls.
The A.I. is quite easy when you play the novice and amateur league. Reaching pro league - the opponents really gave me a hard time because they´re really fast and defending their line. This could be a bit frustrating but in the end it is an awesome game back from the 90´s
If you´re into retro games and/or know the Screamer titles this should be an instant buy for ya!

僕はバトルギアシリーズのような計器が見える車内視点に惹かれて購入しました
しかし、今現在で敢えてプレイするほどの価値があるものとはプレイしていて思えませんでした
PS1のリッジレーサー、今やってもまぁまぁ面白いですが、別にわざわざそれを今選んで遊ぶ理由が希薄と言いましょうか
また前述の通り、キーコンフィグについてすら何の説明ないまま売られている事に、いい加減なことをするものだなぁと思ったものです

'Screamer' wears it's age on it's sleeve not just from a fidelity standpoint but also the gameplay mechanics it brings to the table. A limited set of courses, cars, and modes makes it a brief and clunky experience.
Classic arcade drift racing with post race replays. Drift model is somewhat hard to get used to but overall a fun game. AI is not what I expected in that the AI does not rubberband. Rookie to pro campaigns plus special events. dosboxScreamer.conf can be modified for an acceptable windowed resolution. For the record has never crashed while playing.

Definitely one of the better arcade ([i]ARCADE[/i]) racing games out there on Steam, and that also applies to 1995 rules, too. It's damn fun and I can play it on end for several days, even though it's the same 5 tracks. The only thing is that there's no car customization, but what do you expect from 1995?
It also reminds me a lot of Daytona USA/USA Deluxe. Pick up that and Screamer, they both are really fun.
I dread to think how many hours I spent playing this as a kid, and while it does look terribly dated now, it still provides a fun, arcade-style racing experience, with the announcer walking the fine line between funny and annoying.
Pro League in the Championship is as challenging as ever but still gave me that sense of accomplishment when I finally finished that sixth race in pole position!
Looking forward to Screamer 2 & Screamer Rally getting a Steam release now as well...
Oh, and for people complaining of crashes, it only happened to me a couple of times on the 5th track, but setting detail to low in the options prevented any further crashes, so I can endorse that fix.

Great game!
Saw this excellent racing game from 1995 and had to instantly purchase it. The game boasts really fun arcade racing that screams the 90's. The announcer can get annoying, but is charming. The game boasts many tracks and cars to try out, so the game has hours worth of fun. Definitely worth the price and still looks great.
