Unpolished game with poor balancing, very frustrating to play.

Enemies spawn in numbers when you exit shops or enter areas and have no momentum to defend yourself. Difficulty is all over the place and hard to gauge before starting fights. Cost of failure is very high, as you have to pay thousands to recover your lost fleet.

I've been looking for a game like this for a very long time and I don't know how i missed the release of Sail Forth as it is fantastic. Sailing in this game is a joy, and the battles are awesome. However, islands feel somewhat deserted and battles get easy once you get the harpoon, as you can board better ships that have small crews and capture them.

Currently playing on a M1 Mac Mini with 8GB, with predefined graphic settings at 1080p, and it runs really good. Frames may drop when there are 10+ ships.

Plays like an alpha build. The ship is a headache to stop and start and every action seems to halt you in place. Targeting and turning simultaneously is really clunky, canons shouldn't need aiming in the first place. Enemy ships are frustratingly accurate whilst your companion ships are practically idle. I gave up after the first boss fight, it just had too much health and there's no difficulty option. Before I get called a casual, only 31% of players made it that far going off achievements.

Comparing it to Wind Waker, it's missing that sense of adventure. The soundtrack is bland and your crew means nothing. You can't step foot on land and if you get too close to an NPC you will get stuck on the shore. Everyone trades in wood instead of gold for some reason. Oh and there's a fast travel, further killing any magic.

What a fantastic game! After making 2 saves with a learning start to the first one I can say I absolutely love this game! From sailing the seas intercepting Skull clan vessels to fishing the open waters and taking pictures of the wild life and inhabitants of the ocean this game has soooo much to explore! After completing the game I can say this game is an absolute blast! A fun casual game completed in about 30 hours on 1 save.

After completing the game my input and thoughts on some things:

The sailing mechanics that most complain about in the reviews are from just not understanding how the wind works tbh. Just looking at which way the wind blows and matching your sails to the wind you will always have a good consistent speed.

Sailing into the wind fricking sucks! Playing through the game I always had an ore speed boost mod on to keep myself from moving at a snails pace.

Combat is very easy in my opinion, very rarely did I feel the need to sail with a full fleet especially after gaining the best weapons. Also after playing through the game I realized that the skull clan wave mechanic is not mandatory at all and I completed every one without realizing that and gained the best equipment very early on.

It still does not excuse the easy combat in the game. The main issue with combat is just the fact you can repair your ship anytime during combat. You can just sail into any fight and go in with no consequences and just repair turning your ship around to fire another volley of cannon fire or just break away and repair. Just my thought on combat in the game.

After completing the game I have 5 achievements left to gain being the lowest achieved ones. I'll update this review with 100% completion time. Current 30.75 hrs

总体而言，这是一个，画风治愈，清闲悠闲，适合下班之后游玩或者与小孩玩的游戏，其简单不繁琐的操作系统，以及简单轻松的玩法机制，让我想到了小时候玩小游戏的悠闲时光，说实话，我真的挺喜欢这游戏的，要是这游戏能出小漫画呀，或者说出动漫呐，我肯定看。

一句话，这游戏很值得入手。

Its a good game and pretty chill. Perhaps some more sailing mechanics might be nice or something optional to do while sailing. They have added that you can't sail straight into the wind or at a very close angle to it and that the best speed is gained from wind perpendicular to your boat which is a nice touch and often overlooked. Very pleased with the game and this one won't be giving me nightmares anytime soon!

Only started playing - 8 hours in - but already I love this game. Intense Wind Waker coupled with Sid Meiers' Pirates, excellent adventure that looks to have plenty of content & a bargain at the price.

Looking forward to setting sail into the DLC once I've finished the main game.

I enjoy playing this game, and I understand it's from a small dev team, but I have a few issues with it. Progression feels disjointed and it's easy to get lost for hours with no clear idea of what to do next. the mid to late game throws all tactics out the window and devolves into roll face and hit repair. the game is generally buggy, and the expansion DLC adds another huge ocean to explore... only there's absolutely nothing in it. It's literally padding for the token weapons, which are cool... but the DLC seems like a lot of wasted potential. Pretty fun game, although some mechanics and progression just don't make sense. I have 5 extra upgrade materials after maxxing the tech tree. 3/5 game.

I have mixed feelings about this game, but it has a lot of character and I think deserves and overall positive review.

The game is essentially a mix of Mount and Blade where you are exclusively on boats with the whimsical feeling of exploration of BoTW sprinkled on top. Conceptually amazing, but this game is a much smaller scope of either of the previously mentioned titles, so don't get too overly excited or you will be left disappointed!

The good:
*good customization allowed for boats, gun placement, colors, decals, etc
*interesting mini games for unlocking cosmetics (fishing and photography)
*Humorous dialog, the creator could have left it stale, but chose to put a lot in a lot of humor that would have made otherwise boring repetitive dialog fun.
*chill atmospheric music
*bright/fun colorful aesthetic

The bad (gripes):
*I am no sailor, but the wind mechanic for sailing makes no sense to me. There would be times when the wind would be directly behind my sails and my boat would be crawling along and other times when the wind was perpendicular to my boat and I would be cruising. I never could figure it out.
*When the wind is blowing against your sail you just stop and can't turn or do anything without back rowing at a snails pace. This is extra annoying which fishing or interacting with anything completely stops your boat and if you are stopping against the wind it can make thing tedious. I eventually stopped fishing midgame because I was tired of trying to get my boat coasting to a decent speed again.
*The range on all the guns feel like they should be longer. I never felt like I could strategically use my guns by strafing on enemy boats with how short the range on all the guns were. All ship battles were just going in minicircles trying to shoot the enemy boat until a) out boats collide and get stuck or b) the winds slows my boat to a halt and I am a sitting duck. At first the ship battles are fun, but eventually turn into a tedious cluster especially after you add a few ships to your fleet and are fighting multiple enemy ships at once.
*Due to the annoyances with the wind as soon as I unlocked fast travel I exclusively traveled this way unless I had to discover a new locations which I think shows how punitive the wind mechanic is. Its slow down effect needs to be lessened I think. I think it would also be nice if the game said how many knots you are sailing at to better gauge speed.
*The grab distance should also be increased for items that are dropped. The number of times I beached myself trying to get an item off the coast of an island or next to an object is absurd.
*some objects are in the game, but not for use? You can get Tek destroyers in your fleets, but are not supposed to command them? If you try to outfit the frog submarines if you get one in your fleet the game forces you to unequip their torpedoes before returning to play. Not sure why those objects are in the game if I can't utilize them.

I realize my gripe list is long, but I really enjoyed the concept of this game (a whimsical sailing game that is easy to pick up and play) and I want it to be better, but I feel the scope and quality of the game is appropriate for the cost. My play time is closer to 20 hours for 'beating' the game, I had my PC running with it open while AFK.

That being said to add a final gripe, I am unsure if I beat the game or not, I just did story mission until I couldn't find anymore and called it good, so maybe that can be a final gripe. No clear conclusion?

I have never posted a review for anything, but I want to post this as I think this is a fabulous game with one huge flaw that is easily corrected. There is no way to save your game. If you screw up, you are screwed. It is almost like a "die and the game is over" but just not quite as extreme. Just add a save game feature FFS.

Edited to add: I have played another 10+ hours, and still have to keep my "Not Recommended" review. In addition to the Save feature already mentioned, there also needs to be a difficulty slider for enemies. Right now the pirate vessels seem veryy strong, and a simple "Easy/Normal/Hard/Nightmare" selection would make the game more enjoyable and acceptable for different playstyles.

I haven't written a review in ages but I feel like this one is necessary. This is a perfect blend between Wind Waker and Black flag. The art-style is so endearing, the characters are sweet and fun; at first I felt the size of the game was underwhelming, I kept meeting hard boundaries! UNTIL I realized I wasn't meant for them! I had other boundaries to peruse prior! This game is an open ended simplistic take on the Wind Waker I grew up loving, with a tang of Black Flag combat, and I love this one to the moon and back!

I really wanted to like this game, and thought the sailing and exploring is great, but the ship combat and target minigames felt really bad and changed the game from cozy to rage inducing and had to uninstall. The writing, fishing, photos, world and characters are all charming and give you an illusion of a cozy experience but I can't imagine trying to 100% this game. If you can get used to the combat I'm sure the rest of the game continues with its charm but It was too hard and not for me, I play games like this to relax not be frustrated.

Simply unengaging. Abysmal aiming in the combat, friendly AI ships get engaged in battle and sink miles away from you instead of following, with no notifications that they need your support.

I really wanted to like this, bc a cosy, fun, naval adventure is exactly the kind of thing I should love.

The gameplay is utterly shallow, combat is bland and unrewarding, ships largely feel & handle the same and traversal is just a chore.
Wind currents do not change and blow exclusively from south to north, meaning if you need to go into the wind, you will be sat doing nothing for upwards 10 minutes while your ship rows into the wind.
Assuming it doesnt just grind to a halt, which frequently happens for no apparent reason. Going with the wind at full sail? Nah, you're just gonna stop.
This also happens in combat. Constantly. Leaving you a sitting duck.
Combat is also mostly boiled down to "Buy a bigger ship & tank everything" bc the controls dont really allow for strategic manoeuvres.
Especially if you have NPC controlled ships in your fleet. This is bc every ship, friendly or hostile, is going to ram you, and even if you have the bigger, heavier or more manoeuverable ship, they will simply push you around. You wont be able to turn into them to affect their course, and they will turn harder than you if you try to pull away, keeping you pinned. Which also stops you from being able to hit them, bc the aiming system jumps erratically between expecting you to manually aim and lead your shots, to just turning your cannonballs into homing projectiles. There is no visual difference to the aiming system to indicate which one the game feels like using in that moment.

Honestly this feels like it should be in early access.
Mechanics & controls are janky and need refining and the content needs expanding to provide some kind of depth & variation. As it is, it's a couple of hours of "kinda fun" and then you've seen everything and you will just get more and more frustrated by the jank.

Probably the cutest game i played. A little sailing adventure, where you explore, build up your ship, fleet and equipment, fight pirates and bosses and solve mysteries. Its quite more detailed in the modifications that your able to make then i thought. Different guns with ranges and effects, skill tree and merchants. Only slightly annoying thing is: I got rammed a bunch by a merchant vessel very early in the game. So i sank it, this marked the beginning of a war thats still lasting, with no end in sight, since the "friendly" AI seems to go out of their way to attack me lol. Guess more loot for me though.

This game has everything I'd want out of it. It's chill most of the time, the ship combat feels like a revamped black flag, it's not 998GB, and everything isn't too clustered together so you actually get to sail a bit between places. There is a fast travel for you impatient lot, but I'm personally enjoying sailing everywhere. Still early into the game it feels, and to be honest, I'm not quite sure what the story is at the moment, but I'm vibing so I'm sure I'll piece it together as I continue. This is a DLC-less review, but based on base game, I'm guessing I will be picking it up at some point. Great work development people, consider multiplayer in the future?

There aren't many decent pirate video games out there, so this scratches a particular itch that Wind Waker and Sea of Thieves don't really achieve for me anymore.

Sail from island to island to progress the game, get lumber for ship upgrades by doing micro quests, battle ships and steal their crew, or the whole damn boat if you're lucky.

The game feels much more polished than I had anticipated, there are some unique mechanics that made me smile. For example, selling the fish you catch will add the colors of those fish to the ship customization, and selling photos you take can add new decals for your sails. Lots of cute/funny pirate-speak dialogue and endearing characters.

Combat is fun and thrilling, but losing battles never sets you back too far. It's cool to experiment with different weapons on different ships, and there's an option to manage the crew on each ship in your fleet if you feel so inclined.

If I had one gripe, it would be the repair system. You can set the damage threshold for when you want the crews to start repairing their ships mid-battle. And I think that's really neat! BUT there's no option to do so for your own ship. And that would be fine if there was an interesting repair mechanic for this occasion, but instead you have to go to the crew management menu, select your ship, and just click "Repair". In my opinion, this can throw a wrench in the flow of the combat. I think a little micro game or something would be cool.

This one small gripe aside, this is a very fun take on an unpopular genre, I got it on sale but I'd otherwise happily pay the twenty bucks for it.

I'm giving it a thumbs up because a lot of care obviously went into this one. It's beautiful, cute and extremely polished. I think this would be fantastic to play with kids.

But tbh, it's kind of a thumbs-sideways. The first 90 minutes is pretty great. But after that, is starts to revolve into fetch quests that I just have a hard time getting excited about. Not sure what it is. I think part of it is I don't really feel a strong sense of progression. To be clear, I've only given in 2.5 hours, though so maybe I need t give it time.

That said, if you're into this kind of game, or if you have young kids who want to play, this would be a solid choice.

Very easy to play and really fun! crew can be found stranded around map there free to save also can be rescued from pirate ships as well as bought for 100 lumber at some places so get out there and make your fleet four ships strong!! some ships can be purchased at a merchant some will join you for a cost witch is a good way to gain a ship that is not for sale at merchant (lumber is the currency so check every ship wreck).

Frustrating controls, camera swings around on its own for no reason so you're trying to steer the ship with one thumbstick and fighting the camera with the other AND trying to aim your canning and shoot? Blah. Plus often I'm not moving despite having sails up, so I click the bumper to lower the sales and presto, I start moving! Often the wind is at my back but I'm going backwards at times, so I have to hit the Back button to stop going backward and magically start moving forward again. Ugh. I thought it might be a fun relaxing game but the controls are just slop. And the thumbstick for looking is reversed for me but there's no option to invert it. Not for me and I love sailing games like Raft & Dredge. Got it on sale but still getting a refund. To each their own I guess.

Fun for a few hours then quickly gets repetitive. The dialogue is god awful and the story...is there a story? Idk, I skipped all the idiotic dialogue, which sounds like it was written by an edgy drunk 12 year old. The sailing itself isn't even that fun, and the fast travel ruins the game. The map is just so random and not thought out, though, that the fast travel system was the only way to make the map viable. Pass on this game unless under $10.

I thought I'd already posted a review but I guess not. Anyways, the game is fun. A bit slow sometimes, and personally I tend to prefer games with more construction/engineering involved, but the sailing in this game is pretty unmatched.

One problem: the dlc's "maelstroms" are *buggy*. I get stuck in an infinite loop of trying to return to the overworld, only to immediately be shoved back into the dlc area. It's really frustrating. At least the base game is solid for the most part.

Really fun! Super polished, has Windwaker vibes.

I was also just telling a friend that I can't really think of any games where the main measurement of progress is how much you've filled out your map. Here it is! The feeling of just picking a direction and setting sail with your crew is great. At moments very relaxing, at moments very adventurous.

This is how I'd imagine Lewis and Clark felt minus the disease and suffering. Don't think a lot of games capture this type of fun. Definitely worth checking out if you're curious.

tl;dr: Un jeu de combat naval plutôt relaxant. L'expression qui me vient en tête c'est vraiment "hits the spot".
Graphismes rêveurs, musique apaisante, activités secondaires reposantes, combat satisfaisant.

Le jeu propose un vingtaine de navires, chacun avec avantages et inconvénients (vitesse de voile vs vitesse de rame, canons sur les flancs vs canons avant et arrière etc.) et une vingtaine d'armes (une quarantaine si on compte les variantes de qualité mauvais/normal/bonne). Et vous pouvez encore personaliser votre navire en changeant son équipage (chaque petit bonhomme à bord vous donne un petit % dans une stat selon sa faction) ou en installant des modifications (pour améliorer votre vitesse, votre armure ou vos dégâts entre autres).

Vous ne naviguez pas seul dans cette aventure, vous pouvez avoir jusqu'à trois autres navires dans votre escorte.
La carte du monde est générée en partie procéduralement. Les îles ne seront pas au même endroit entre deux playthrough.

On peut considérer que le jeu est un peu sandbox-ish, on progresse à notre rythme. Comme activités secondaires, entre deux combats, on peut pêcher, prendre des photos, jouer aux cartes, ce qui débloque essentiellement des teintures et des dessins de pavillon (tout à fait optionnel).

I explored 6 islands, the game was incredibly slow paced. Sailing takes forever with the post-tutorial boat. When you hit land accidentally, the boat doesn't want to back up or turn easily so I guess that forces me to fast travel to the same island that I'm already on. If you want to sail against the wind, you have to gain speed at a snail's pace, but after you finally gain speed, if you talk to any NPC, you lose all your speed! This is something I feel is common, since I want to explore each island and circle around it, get loot, etc. Feels terrible, I can't even tab out because the game auto pauses so I'm stuck doing literally nothing watching paint dry.

Sail forth is a naval game set in its own world full of little islands. I am not sure whether the world is procedurally generated or pre-build, but it is a large world to explore.

In this game you sail around with your ship in a simplified realistic manner. You have to take the wind into account and change the direction of your sails so you can best make use of this wind. Ships with different sail configurations also handle this differently giving them a somewhat realistic point of sail. Don't worry if you don't know in what way to set the sail, there is a small slider on the screen that gives you an idea of where to move your sail to. On the compass as well is a representation of the best point for your ship to sail to compared to the wind. It is very beginner friendly. However your ship will come to a stop when trying to sail directly into the wind, but the game has a solution that is often ignored in naval games of this era of the age of sail, oars. Yes, you can use oars to row your boat around. It will be more slowly than using sails most of the time, but you won't be effected by the wind when doing so.

The combat is somewhat arcadish and simplified, but intense. Naval combat is more akin to Assassin's Creed Black Flag than Naval Action, but works really well. Weapon selection is very simple. You have a set amount of different guns in different qualities. It is very simple and for what I have seen so far (11 hours) you won't have more than 10 or maybe 20 across your whole ship on the largest ships available. You will fight many different ships and also monsters and sea creatures. Boarding is also an option and you can capture enemy ships to enhance your fleet.

And while the graphics are also simplified, they are quite beautiful. With varieties of wildlife around that you also have to photograph to unlock new graphics for your flags and sails. You will be able to catch fish which you can then trade in for different colours to paint your ship, sails and flags. And there are various other ships and options to customize your ships available in this game. All of the crew is visually on deck and since crew numbers are quite low compared to real sailing ships, but that makes management of said crew much easier and adds to the overall charm of the game.

Overall I think this game is a nice relaxing naval game with occasional battles set in a fantasy age of sail setting and I can highly recommend it.
