It's a medieval homage to 'The Guild' series by a small Indy dev and has come a remarkably long way.
If you enjoyed the guild series, this is one of the few alternatives that comes close enough to be worth your time.
Graphics aren't fantastic but the game play is.

The game is always fun and great. Many different ways to play and you can adjust settings to how hard you want your playthrough to be.
The UI feels a bit fiddly, and the map‑based interactions often leave me guessing—half the time I’m just clicking long, short, or randomly until the right menu pops up (occasionally venting some frustration on the mouse).
That said, there’s real promise here.
It’s impressive work from a solo developer, and I genuinely hope he continues refining how items are moved around and how on‑screen context is handled.

This is the game I've been waiting for. Could use a little better instructions in the Wiki's but I love this game. The maps could be bigger. I would love a massive map but I've been playing the same map for 22 hours so I could be wrong! haha.

Saturated the market with my goods. Traveling merchant came. Bought up all my goods at a discount and sold to him. Crashed his market. Bought up goods again and sold them off-map at a premium. Got rich. Bought more businesses. Plan to repeat.
Already a good game, if this keeps getting refined it will be a real gem.

I am nearing the end of my first playthrough where I started as a farmer and am nearing thegnhood. Whether I will die before that happens due to the lower life expectancy during this time period is unclear. For my next playthrough, I will attempt the life of a vagabond and will never become a thegn, but I know that I will laugh.
The developer, Atorcoppe, enjoys continually working on his game and responding to his player base. I play on an ultra wide monitor and from my initial purchase of the game 2 weeks ago to now, he responded to some display issues and enhanced the functionality for people like me.
This is a great game!! i have enjoyed the 12hrs I've put in so far.
Has a bug that has been around for years about losing ownership of your property for no reason but only keeps 1 auto save. Why would you only keep 1 auto save, especially when you have an error pop up saying save is broken and it continues to overwrite the only save it makes ACTIVELY KNOWING THE SAVE IS BROKEN. Originally recommended this game but this alone is such a brain dead system it ruins any possibility of a recommendation from me.
i enjoy city builders, colony survival style games and this hits every single mark i have. i rarely give reviews, even when i like games but when i recently found out that this game is independently developed by not just a small team, but mostly (if not all) done by a single person, i'm floored. i love this game, the mechanics, the story you can build along the way. The continuous development and updates. the fact you can turn raids off if you want a more chill playthrough letting seasons and survival be the enemy. running your own business, playing as a vagrant stealing from others until you become an outlaw, just to turn your life around and eventually become a noble. is it perfect: no. is it in my top 5 games of the genre: yes.. is it number 1: yes (in my opinion). it might not have the same perspective and graphics of Bellwright or Medieval Dynasty, but it is much more flexible and immersive for my style play. oh and when my first character got robbed by some Jack-A and i turned around and stole his wife, became a guard and harassed him until he mysteriously died in a fire... this game will forever live in my heart

I fired up Saelig expecting a quiet medieval life simulator.
What I found instead was one of the most honest economic and logistics simulations I’ve played in years.
On the surface, it’s simple: build a family, run businesses, manage workers, survive. But underneath, Saelig models something most games never even attempt—sustainment. Overhead matters. Property taxes matter. Wages matter. Supply chains matter. You cannot brute-force your way to success forever. If you expand too fast, the system will quietly eat you alive.
That’s rare. And it’s brilliant.
The game rewards specialization, logistics discipline, and long-term thinking. I eventually built a multi-town trade network anchored on mining, manufacturing, and export control. Flooding markets, watching prices collapse, hoarding strategic reserves, and pivoting production based on resource availability felt less like “playing a game” and more like managing a living economic organism.
What makes Saelig exceptional is that it doesn’t fake difficulty. It lets you succeed—and then forces you to sustain that success. The real enemy isn’t competition. It’s mismanagement.

I dislike buying early access games, but I felt compelled to support a dev who is building something that I really want. At this stage it feels polished enough and has plenty of content to justify the price. No bugs or crashes so far, but just a little learning curve with the UI. I’m really excited for the future content and thankful for a developer who is building a labor of love. Please keep up the good work!

Ugh, the most promising guild successor ive ever seen, and i cant recomend over stupid marginal AI art. Totally unecessary UI elements that would have taken at most a couple hours to placeholder, and tainted the entire developer. Disapointing shame.
Not sure how I have missed this game!! Right up my street and really enjoying it.
This game has been in early access for a long time now. And I've looked into it a few times over the years, because I'm a huge fan of The Guild 1 and 2. And with The Guild 3 being a huge let down, I was looking at Saelig for a long time, wishing it to become a game at the scale of the Guild, but without all the bugs.
And boy, the wait was worth it. It still needs some time to cook, but the core gameplay loop already works. You can decide if you want to start a whole town from scrath or be a peasant in an already build one. So many possibilites.
Also the dev is very very very very active on the forum and puts out updates on a regular basis. I really hope he brings it to the finish line.

I played 18 hours, had plenty left to do but honestly felt like i was content for what i paid.
I'll be back for future updates, it got a little monotonous for me once i'd established myself.
Worth the price point for sure. You do have to be okay with some jank and a learning curve. You have a MC that your assets are tied to, but cannot directly control, click to move. Economics and the relationship and resource management between businesses is the core game. Includes upgrades that dont change gameplay but increase something. Minor combat, can right click melee or ranged attack during viking raids, Can pickpocket and steal, but owning something that produces resources to sell is OP .
This game is a pearl and clearly meant for the "Labor of Love" award. The dev is tireless and the updates, content and depth keep growing.
I have high expectations and would not mind paying for a DLC if the content were to exponentially grow.

I was looking for a more modern Guild like game, and I found it. The dev(s) are active, I did run into a game breaking bug when I last played but I gather that this is rare and it's already fixed.

Regular updates from the Dev and, best of all, a specific start where you have an immortal dog that follows you and your heirs for generations.

Downloaded and deleted. I have never played a game like this and it was too complicated for me to just sit down and get into.
Downloaded it again later. Spent an hour watching videos and understanding and now am addicted. It is so satisfying when you start making money.

Excellent game! Anyone disappointed by The Sims medieval will love this game. I slept on the Guild, but I hear this is great for fans of that franchise as well. To me, this is literally just The Sims made into a medieval survival game.

also the art is pretty charming
Loved my time with the game. Do wish there were more things to do with the family, but I was occupied with building towns and running businesses, so it's fine.
I played the demo for a few hours, got the hang of it, then purchased the game and felt confident enough to go straight for the townless map and, while there were some hiccups with my confidence, I had a ton of fun reaching a population of 250 on there.
But for now I'll wait for further updates, and maybe try to clear more of my backlog.
Single developer, so take the following with a grain of salt.
After playing for 15 hours I come to realize that there is not much depth to it all.
There are jobs and businesses that are simply better than others and the actual gameplay is mostly a waiting simulator. The criminal path almost certainly locks you out of the whole business thing because of ruined reputation unless you want to deal with hordes of angry neighbours and their bull. The individual mechanics don't work together that well, which combined with jobs and such being balanced to clearly favor one over the other, also means the game is actually very linear.
Maybe the game improves over time but after 10 years in early access there is not much here, then again I got it for 5 bucks which is fine.
After 45 hours:
Criticism stands but 45 hours for 5 bucks is good value.
After 100 hours:
It has its flaws but it's a great game overall.

Something that has become very clear after playing for that long, is that the AI is not very smart and sadly offers no challenge. But building villages from the ground up is fun either way.

Medieval Sims / Medieval Kenshi? This is a feel-good game about medieval life - Almost like the 'Guilds' games, but with some added flare. Every NPC is trying to get ahead, some will die, some will get pregnant and have to take leave if they work for you, raiders might burn your business to the ground or kill a family member. -- Live life as a vagabond hunter in the woods? Business owner? Town watch? Get a job anywhere, and do basically anything you want.
I will say that the gameplay loop isn't yet vast, but it's captivating and enjoyable. This game can be as hardcore or as relaxing as you want through the settings - Turn off raiders and just enjoy climbing the social ladder, expanding your family and growing the towns and villages surrounding you.
I have been enjoying this game and hope that more people make the purchase to motivate the developer to continue to forge ahead and expand the gameplay and deepen the existing mechanics.
This is a game I could definitely get at least 50-100 hours out of, no problem. Very fun game that has more depth than it initially appears. The life simulation aspect is fun by itself, but the real joy comes in the micromanagement of businesses and optimization of production chains. Before you know it, you'll be a medieval monopolist. It's a lot of fun working your way up, the gameplay loop is very rewarding, and there's a fair amount of different options to pursue. There's several maps to try, and the developer is quite active and communicative even after working on it as long as they have.
Would definitely recommend if you enjoy games such as Kenshi, the Guild, Big Ambitions, Mount & Blade, etc. Easily worth the $15 price tag and especially if it is on sale.

I couldn't have been more surprised and delighted with this title. I purchased it after watching Splattercat give his impressions. The game has the story aspect of Rimworld but more appealing, IMO, graphics. There is a surprising amount of depth but not overwhelming. It can be chill or ramp up the tension. I was very happy to discover that you could change the length of the season. (i.e. more days/seasons and more or less years pass with ever cycle.)
It took me a little bit to understand the best way to play, but I'm really enjoying it now. I just wish there was more to it than there is, it feels like it could be so much more.
a lot of the controls are very unintuitive, but luckily you can rebind most of them.
Game tells you a whole lot of nothing about how to play or how things work, but if you're willing to make a lot of new characters and try to learn how things work, but if you're playing it for the economy sim with slight rpg elements, it comes up short. Automation is a joke, automated farms rarely do what you want (send "excess" goods to market instead of the wheat mill right next to it), it will never remember your automation settings (if you disable automation for a building, you have to remember what you set it up with). Social interactions are also a joke, ask about family and flirt.

Old game that needs a facelift in all aspects: mechanics, player controls, UI, minimap, region map. And unfortunately doesn't seem to be getting that any time soon
It's got the bones to be a good game, but the economy sim aspect isnt very deep and seems to want to be more of an RPG game instead. It's not the worst but its only redeeming quality is that it is CHEAP, but if you want something other than a way to mindlessly and idly occupy a few hours it may be worth it. Otherwise, steer clear and find a finished sim game

Live on medieval land, eat, sleep, work, save money by any means you know off to raise your social status. To obtain lands and businesses, hire people to work for you and raise your social status even more. Defend against vikings raids. Create your family. And if you die, assume control of your heir to continue building your empire

What a great game! It's a game where you control your character, move him around to do various tasks to earn a living because you start with nothing or with a little bit and can level up to becoming the richest Family on the whole map, You can be a beggar, a thief, a hunter, a forrager or whatever you want. You can marry and have a big familiy if your fertility is great or a small family.... but you can also adopt children. The choice is yours. You can be the greatest thief and have people killed to take their properties and land away!
The economy is dynamic. Prices change (they drop when a product floods the market or skyrocket when there is none). There are outside merchants and caravans who bring in the more exotic goods and sometimes pay better prices for the normal goods.
The main facet of the game though is to own property that produces these products. You can either own a bunch of fields and make wheat, a bunch of bakeries buying wheat and flour off the market, or you can own the entire supply chain to make bread.
But you can also marry into land ownership, arson (lowers property price so can buy land cheap :D), Theft, Assault, Prosecute, jail, fine (as town reeve (elected) or watchman), Trading around
Graphics are pretty good. Lots of fine details. Talking and relationships are a little limited but work.
Few minor bugs here and there but the dev is always willing to address them. Keep in mind, he is alone and is becoming a father soon, so don't be disapointed if he can't respond to every issue asap.
Like other mentionned, if you do buy the game, buy it on itch.io so the dev gets more of the money compared to steam. Updates just as easily.
Addicting niche little game, I've played many games of a similar genre and there's something special about this one. Excited for future maps and updates!
Truly a hidden gem. If you like RPGs and being able to defecate on the doorstep of your enemies, it doesn't get much better then this
I enjoy the management aspect of this game, not the Viking invaders. It is nice to turn that off and have a peaceful playthrough. I also like to turn off fires, horrible deaths, and other unpleasant things. Thank you, dev, for giving me something I can enjoy.
Amazing game so far, its really scratching a Medieval Sim/Strategy itch for me that I've looked for in other stuff but haven't found. Its also super chill so I can kinda just zone out. Never really do reviews but I think this is made by one guy and it really deserves more credit. I saw Splattercat play this and was very intrigued, check his videos out on this if you aren't sure! Then was on sale so I just went for it, despite the Demo. I started at a Vagabond because why not and i've been loving my progression. Only thing i'd like is a hotkey to select your character as I feel like it would help in early game or am I being stupid?
Im really looking forward to what the dev does with this one. Scratches the Kenshi do what ever you want itch.
Very fun game with a lot more going on in the background than you first realize. I like it and I'm having fun with it.
This game is great. Doesn't try and hold your hands and lets you explore, play, and learn what there is to offer. And its not easy, which is a breath of fresh air in simulation games.
It's a fun game, if you loved the old Guild II you will love this.

reminds me of og ruinscape, its simplistics and can mostly play it on mouse without keyboard, its not boaring i found myself feeling abit board and assoon ass im done sleeping il save and play later, then stan the man coming for your taxes shows up and i just cant let him live so i anticcipate his movemets, wate in the woods and the tax man dies every time,,, credit to the deveoler this has roots and he has been from what i see taking imput and building a game four you,,, to the dev tour model is proven, i never played the guild but im aware of it... i can level my aechery to 90 in under 2 hours playtime without foucusing on it.... the level of machanics is no small task but i think with what you know working ond saelig 2 with some war / siege mechanics and navel war... id stat on game 2 while playing around and contiuing to update your original masterpiece, a simple point and click you can loose hours in
9hr into the game, returned to load my previous session and the game is failing to load the session.
Game also unable to load new session.
When i try to load in I am able to get the HUD to displayed, and the time is moving along. However, the map, characters, environment stays on the loading screen image.
Verifying the game files, uninstalling and reinstalling did not work either.
Great Game,for any one liking The Guild will like this game!Btw it works great on Linux.
Spend hours living life in a game so i don't have to live a real life.

Really dedicated developer who has, for YEARS, put out regular updates to the game.
The game is unique in premise, but it's also kind of slow and relaxed. If you like casual games, you will probably like this, but it doesn't feel like it'll ever be exciting. The graphics are also not as detailed as I would ordinarily like.
