Sometimes it is hard to imagine that RPG Maker is probably the oldest game engine, that even was on PS1, too! RPG Maker 2000 (also known as RPGM2K) currently is the oldest title on Steam, and just looking at its UI and RTP (assets) makes me feel nostalgic and kinda happy; reminds me of old animes, such as Haruhi Suzumiya, and etc..
As artes desse rpg maker é muito bonitas e por ser em 16x16 consigo de boa fazer as minhas próprias. O combate é a mesma coisa do XP(meu favorito), mas achei bem mais complexo os eventos desse, provavelmente por ser mais antigo.

Tras RPG Maker 95 en 1997 (Cuyo estreno internacional jamás llegó), acabamos por tener a RPG Tsukuru 2000 como exclusivo en Japón. Fue éste el primero de toda la serie de software en alcanzar a popularizarse en todo el mundo gracias a las iteraciones traducidas e ilegales de un usuario Ruso bajo el alias de 'Don Miguel', y no fue hasta mediados del 2015 que acabamos por tener una versión internacional de manera oficial a manos de KADOKAWA y Gotcha Gotcha Games.
La versión oficial e internacional de RPG Maker 2k es hoy por hoy casi tan versatil como RPG Maker 2k3 pues acabó recibiendo varias actualizaciones con las que se adaptó a algunas de las nuevas funciones de su sucesor; aún así, no tiene una pantalla completa a modo de ventana sin bordes como 2k3, cuanto con menos comandos a la carta y continúa en falta de algunas configuraciones como la opción de saltar la pantalla de menú por defecto (Para así armar un menú custom como en 2k3).
Fue acá en donde se introdujo los Common Events, las variables (Como alternativa de mayor complejidad a los Switches) y el Conditional Branch, además de ser un software mucho más estable que RPG Maker 95 (Que se volvió famoso por ser propenso a crashear).
El principal motivo para comprar RPG Maker 2000 por encima de 2003 está en el combate; el de 2k3 es Active Time Battle (ATB) y el de 2k es estrictamente por turnos; y la visualización de éstos también es distinta, en RPG Maker 2003 vemos a todos los combatientes de perfil mientras que en RPG Maker 2000 vemos al combate en primera persona.
En mi caso lo compré para ver si puedo contactar con un proxy y subir un mapa mío a Yume 2kki, pero lo veo complicado jaja. Para cualquiera que quiera hacer su propio juego, lo más seguro es ir con RPG Maker 2003 (A no ser que no te guste su modalidad de combate y prefieras la de 2000).

I got this without any prior experience to any RPGmaker (altought I did know how to code already). It was very easy to pick up for me and get the hang on. The included assets look pretty good so that's also a nice addition. I would recommend it, especially if it is on sale!

Ele possui um bug no windows 11 onde o teclado para de funcionar depois de um tempo, por algum motivo so funcionando a tecla "Esc" se possivel concertem por favor, tirando isso facil e simples de usar muito bom.
Until they fix this to allow for my old games to be ported over from the old RM2K, it's getting a not recommended. There are plenty of people who have dedicated years to this program that are getting screwed here. I can't even copy an event from the old version, so remaking one of my oldies won't work either.

The only reason I bought this was so that I could edit The 7th Stand User. R48 editor alone just doesn't cut it.
I adore 7SU for what it is, but even being a free fan game doesn't excuse its truly horrendous balancing issues.
Anyway, this version of RPGM still seems to work well despite being rather dated at this point.

Тут вы можете столкнуться с множеством проблем, к примеру у вас могут возникнуть проблемы при попытке импорта своих изображений или других ресурсов. Также отсутствует нормальная поддержка программы, тоесть если у вас вознила какая-то проблема вы не сможете связаться с поддержкой, так-как они эту программу больше не обслуживают. Так же по этой программе очень мало гайдов или активных форумов.
По моему мнению, программа неоправданно дорогая, как минимум из-за премитивных инструментов и отсутствия нормальной поддержки.

I used RPG MAker 2003 more back in the day, but this one has the best character designs, monsters and tiles.
Speaking from own experience this is by far the best software to find you a the love of your life, the best friends you can imagine, the cooles community and the best projectteam ever and even a new brother.
Nothing beats the Maker 2000.
How the hell did I have this in my library untouched for 2 years? This is amazing.
I mean, it's a bit quirky because it's over 20 years old now, but you're not going to run into those issues much if you just pay attention to how it's assets work
It's my go-to media player for midi files. Top notch, unrivaled, even if the initial import is a chore when you gotta set it up anew.
However, I haven't used it for making actual games... ever. So really no idea about what it can or can't do.

Very good. You can do some really intrigue stuff on here if you try. If you enjoy the classic style of early RPG's you'll like this. Just know that there are very limited amount of tutorials these days.
RPG Maker 2000 is software used for creating your own video game.
This software is very easy to use and fun to play around with.
It hold ups for its age and there are still games being created with it.
Certain aspects are outdated but it really can give a retro feel to your creations.
RPG maker 2000 can be used to learn the basics and mechanics of RPG Maker.
There are much newer versions of this software which are absolutely magnificent.
If you find yourself enjoying this game and want to take it up a notch, consider purchasing RPG Maker MV or MZ.
The creations in these two titles are ENDLESS.
RPG Maker 2000 is very, VERY old, but it's still incredibly powerful. Most of the features that exist in recent RPG Makers already exist in this version, so combined with the frequent 90% off sale, it's a really good starting point for making your very own RPG! You can try this to see if you like making RPGs, and then move on to later versions.
Scripting isn't available in RPG Maker 2000, so be careful if that's what you're interested in.
I've changed my review from a non-recommendation to a recommendation due to the ease of availability of the easy rpg player program. With it, you can place the easy rpg player application file into your exported project's folder and easily play it in fullscreen without any of the blur or performance issues that occur in the base software (at least from what I've experienced with it). However, do be aware that this is only when the project is exported--attempting to test a game in fullscreen mode within the software itself still results in a blurry image which isn't ideal for testing purposes. Also, I think I would likely still recommend 2k3 over this one, though now that I'm using this one a bit more I do have some affinity for its particular style. Pick it up on sale if you can and be sure to download easy rpg player to ensure that whatever you export will be a smoothly playable experience. Also, asesprite would be a great piece of complementary software due to the ease with which it can export indexed images, which are required for this software.
Apart from the review of its functionality and its performance, I'd also state that its retro style is extremely nice and can help keep a project stay focused given how it enforces a reduced scope in terms of sprite resolution and gameplay styles. Though, with that said, the scope can still be massively large if you'd like given rpg concepts like side quests and narrative length can be highly variable in scope by themselves, so don't assume that the inherently retro style will be overly suffocating. Do be aware, however, that enemy attacks don't seem to have any impressive animations, only party attacks do, which might rob the battles of some of their dynamism (rpg maker 2k3 would later alter this so that both enemies and party members have visible attack animations). Ultimately, I'd say that rpg maker 2000 feels like it calls back to the nes/early snes eras (playing more like Dragon Quest or FF 1 & 2) while rpg maker 2k3 calls back to the snes era more generally (especially due to its strict incorporation of the atb system as compared to 2000's full turn system).
Put bluntly, with this software you will be unlikely to create the next Octopath Traveler or other modern turn based games with impressive presentation styles. The later rpg makers will bring you closer to that type of output (in fact, Olivia's Octopack Battler plugin for MV will literally allow you to use that exact battle system). However, 2000 and 2k3's restrictions can help a project remain focused on the basics which are required for any rpg to be truly high quality; those basics being a solid battle system, well-considered writing, and a consistent, expressive aesthetic. Both rpg maker 2000 and 2k3 allow for these qualities to shine, though later rpg makers allow for them to as well. It is simply the case that these early makers encourage a focus on a timeless retro style and will allow you to evoke them immediately through their pixel art styles and basic but ever solid gameplay systems. Again, just be sure to pick up easy rpg player immediately after downloading 2000 in particular. It's pretty much a requirement at this point.

I'd have liked to have used this product more seriously and for a longer length of time, but the problems with the fullscreen display mode were too severe to overlook. I tend to use rpg maker 2k3 a great deal and have found its steam release to be very polished with great options for presentation such as a pixel stretch mode for widescreen and pixel-perfect fullscreen. I thought I'd try rpg maker 2k since it's so similar but with the traditional full-turn system instead of 2k3's ATB, so I could try using 2k if every I felt like opting for that system. Unfortunately, despite the software still being solid in numerous ways, the presentation being so severely hampered by a lack of options and upscaling issues ruins the entire purpose of the software--to make games people can actually play. I could technically export a 2k game and upload it, but everyone checking it out would be disinterested almost immediately by the garish fullscreen and the minuscule windowed modes. If ever those issues are addressed I may revise this review to a recommendation. For now though, stick to other rpg makers and seek out 2k3 if you're looking for a near pixel-perfect presentation style.

This game is top-down excellency! Being one of the first RPG Maker games to ever surface the world, it does its job with pride! If you're ever interested in creating an RPG with an easy-to-use, user friendly engine, then this game is perfect for you.
RPG Maker 2000 uses three different planes in this game that I like to refer to as terrain, scenery, and events. Terrain is your normal ground, things that the player will walk on. Scenery is something the player can see or sometimes feel. Events are triggers or commands that perform a certain action. An event can be a battle, dialogue, a shop, or anything else your mind desires!
RPG Maker 2000 uses its own pre-made assets, but you can of course import your own, which I love! You can also import your own music and other assets to really make the game feel like your own!
Overall, it is a great game for people who want to mess around with making their first RPG, or for experienced developers looking to be successful in the RPG world.

I don't recommend this steam version for commercial game dev for a number of reasons, though the engine itself is objectively good (and I'll always have a soft spot for it).
If you're looking for an engine for serious game development, and the game isn't some kind of visual-novel-rpg or a casual gaming experience, then this will be a frustrating engine to use. If your're just a hobby game-maker, then this is excellent for its price (and you'll find *lots* of rm2k assets/resources online for non-commercial use)
Yet, I still regret paying any amount for the steam version, as it has a broken project import system. Anyway:
Pros:
1. It's cheaper than the later versions and pretty solid basic-rpg-feature-wise
2. Truly user-friendly - in that it has several limitations in favour of being easy to pick up and use for basic game-making, which is still very impressive considering when this engine first came out
3. Nostalgia-factor
4. Good for someone less technically inclined
5. Subjectively cooler graphics
Cons:
1. It's really old and not supported much now anyway (from the devs)
2. The steam version doesn't let you import old projects, even if they were made using the same steam version but on another system. Import looks broken, tbh. This is a deal-breaker in my view
3. You can *still* get the 'map tree corrupted' error and the workaround is *still* as long and partial and depressing as before, from what I'm aware of
4. Tedious command setup flows for events, can be an immense pain even for someone who doesn't like 'scripting'
Despite the pros outnumbering the cons, I'd still only recommend it if price is a factor and/or if you are not interested in making games with any level of complexity in any kind of mechanics - that's too many hours you'll burn because the engine isn't made keeping a programmer in mind, and so "programming" any level of generic, reusable behaviour with all the basic limitations is not really feasible.
I'm not aware how many of the RM2K limitations exist in the later versions (like being unable to reference switches through variables, for example), but if the later versions don't allow for much programming flexibility compared to rm2k, then you may as well stick with rm2k or look at some other engines out there. If programming features are not something you're looking for anyway, then this is a good engine to start with.

Te permite tener todo por base a eventos, por lo cual su sistema de eventos es poderosisimo

es muy intuitivo de usar y sabe mantenerse vigente a pesar de los años

现在高版本的RM，一个空的工程就是500M以上的体积，太奢侈了。 反观当年的版本，整个游戏居然20M不到就够了，真是节省空间的好模范。 而仔细看看，发现除了没有脚本功能，像素分辨率偏低，没什么太大的毛病。个边事件命令比后来版本反倒更强！（变量操作的时候理论上可以用数组操作！）
由于有完备简洁的操作方法，如果用来做课件或者简单交互界面是蛮好的。 现在看着这个老古董，还真是爱不释手呢。

Acheter avant tout par nostalgie, j'ai passé des heures dessus à l'époque où j'étais au lycée et que la seule version compréhensible possible était une fantrad en français de la version de Don Miguel.
Avec cet outil pourtant très simple, vous pouviez créer des j-rpg assez aboutis si vous y mettiez un peu d'huile de coude, je me souviens même avoir vus des jeux utilisant le moteur du logiciel avec un système de jeu personnalisé voir des jeux n'étant pas des j-rpg.
Pour ma part, j'avais réussi à y créer deux jeux complets d'une durée de vie d'une quinzaine d'heures, ce dont je suis encore assez fier étant donné que c'est peut-être une des rares fois où j'ai mené mes projets créatifs à terme (Alors que celui sur RM MV prend la poussière depuis au moins un an x-D)
Usei MUITO a versão do Don Miguel e hoje posso ter a versão original de um dos melhores programas que já usei na minha vida. Os recursos da versão steam são fantásticos.

I've been using this Maker since 2002 so I def have more hours in it than what it says on here.
It's old as hell but still works perfectly fine. If you're looking to play around with a particularly retro-accurate RPG Maker, this is the one to check out.
The core is still very similar to more modern makers, as they're all somewhat of an iteration upon what 2000 established. The RTP is positively gigantic so you'll have lots of free stuff to get you started, and the games are compatible with Windows 10.
Don't let its age fool you. If you're curious about learning more about RPG Maker and you're strapped for cash, RM2K provides just as much fun and learning as the more recent ones.

This engine (while still incredibly limited) derives its charm from early JRPGs on the SNES. It definitely is less powerful than the others but it's still a program that is easy to learn so that you can start creating.
It's my youth, but legal.
EDIT: It is possible to run this exe of RPG Maker in Japanese using Locale Emulator in order to view Japanese Text, both in-game and in-editor. Be advised of a few things, however:
1: English text will NOT look pretty when it does appear in one of these games (this may be solvable with hex editing, but that isn't the point)
2: This exe cannot read JP filenames for images, so if your filenames are in Japanese, god help you. This mostly affects translators porting over games to the latest exe, but for normal people such as you and I, this just means you'll still need to hang on to your older RPG_RT exe's to run those. Why they made it like this is beyond my comprehension since.

This is RPG Maker 2000 in a [i]nearly[/i] perfect form, with a glaring exception that forces me to run both the JP Value!+ Version and this EN Version:

Which is a damn shame, because this is otherwise the perfect RM2k package for those of us boomers who prefer to go old school, even if only for the fact that the event editor has colored text to differentiate between commands.
One of the real shames of the older gen ツクール titles is that a lot of the best learning resources, such as yado.tk, are accessible only to those who understand Japanese. Operating under the theory that a rising tide lifts all boats, Japanese users of RPG Maker went out of their way to make many high-quality tutorials which serve not only to teach one how to use RPG Maker's built-in tools to a high level, but to teach why and how they work so that a learner can easily transition into coming up with their own solutions to new problems not covered by them.
This, in stark contrast to the English community where googling "how to do (thing)" may only yield partial explanations, or vague motions in the direction of how to do something with no true knowledge being passed along. This, I assume is part of a more knowledge-hogging culture where nobody wishes to share their "secrets" with others, for fear that others might make something high-quality themselves. This has somewhat bled over into modern iterations of RPG Maker where people are less inclined to learn and problem solve for themselves, preferring simply to stack plugins to try and make their game "unique," only to end up making something that is not unique in the slightest when everybody else has used the same plugins to achieve the same ends.
Learning how to use the tools in 2k can set a user up for success and independence down the line, even as they move up to more modern editions of RPG Maker. Indeed, someone who understands the limits of this older title will be very pleased when they find they can do such things as[i] Call Common Event[/i]s during battle in 2k3 and beyond, or use [i]Self-Switches[/i]. By then, they may have already worked out clever ways to deal with the limitations set forth by 2k that can still be applied to their problem solving later on. They may also be dismayed at certain new limitations set forth by newer RPG Makers, but that is neither here nor there.
Is it every bit as clunky as it's ever been? Oh yeah. You will still want to use an external text editor of some sort to write all your dialogue, then copy+paste them into dialogue boxes. You will still need to manually set the transparent color of assets you import that have a transparent color different than whatever RM2k is expecting it to be. Eventing with the built-in event editor can be a real pain due to lack of certain abilities which would be nice. But that's just RM2k.
My biggest gripe outside of the inability to work with JP text or cleanly open JP titles (not an issue the other way around, ironically) is that the localization falls flat in certain areas. Where the Japanese version of the game is clear and concise with the terminology used, certain poorly translated sections add a sense of ambiguity and force me to refer back to the original game just to confirm precisely what some things will do or how they operate.

Is a solid example of an incorrect translation which may cause players trouble who are not already familiar with these commands, which more specifically check for [i]Items in Possession[/i] and [i]Items Equipped[/i]. There are other instances where it is worse than this, such as setting the calling conditions for Common Events. The Japanese game has a setting which explicitly sets such events to be used [i]Only When Called[/i], whereas the EN localization simply grays out that section, providing you only with the other two options of Autorun and Parallel Process. (By default, a common event will only be called when you call it, but that is not made abundantly clear when it's not explicitly listed as an option.)
None of it is as bad as the Don Miguel translation of yore, which had such gems as [i]Enter Password[/i] being used in the place of [i]Key Input[/i], [i]Stop Parallel Events[/i] in place of [i]End Event Processing[/i], and others, but I suppose that was the price to pay for not knowing Japanese back then...
This game/tool is worth every penny of its asking price, and I almost feel bad having paid $2.50 for it on sale, but they still got me when I had to pay much more than that for my JP copy, so I feel a bit less guilty.

Su sistema de variables e interruptores es nefasto.
Las variables están sujetas a ser enteros y solo se pueden hacer excepciones con un "igual o mayor", nada de igual, o igual y menor.
Lo mismo ocurre con los interruptores, solo permiten hacer excepciones con un ON, nada de OFF.
Soy consciente de que se han hecho muchas joyas con esta versión, y que además yo la disfruté bastante en mi infancia, pero a día de hoy no merece la pena en lo absoluto.
Además, tiene problemas de rendimiento en W10 en el modo fullscreen.

Bon logiciel malgré son âge, a prendre seulement si vous en avez besoin spécialement, le 2003 est le même en mieux, sinon privilégier les RPG Maker plus récents si vous voulez vous lancer pleinement dedans.
this software is super great, perfect for somebody like me who doesn't know how to code, i love the classic style of it and all that, wonderful. though importing BMP files is a bit of a pain when modern software like Fire Alpaca don't support the format anymore lol
Si bien es un muy buen Software para crear y diseñar ciertos escenarios, es facil de usar, un poco intuitiva, puedes hacer diversas cosas, mundos, paisajes, escenarios interiores y etc...
No era lo que yo esperaba, Me gusto bastante el programa pero no era para al menos el uso que yo tenia en mente darle, si tienes el dinero es una buena opción, si sabes y tienes en mente que puedes hacer y que no con el.
Cabe recalcar que no me dio nada de error, tampoco experimente algún tipo de bug.
(Lo que al menos yo lo rembolse por no ser lo que tenia en mente poder hacer, nada mas.)
