This is such a fun game if you love rogue games.

It's definitely challenging! But it's a nice game to play in the background of other things as well as to just sit and play.

I love a game that doesn't command my attention the entire time I have it open, because I am so very easily distracted.

The build variety is great, and so fun. I do my best to try new things, but sometimes I find an item I really like and try to make it work. Of course, with the huge variety it's not always a guarantee you'll get what you're looking for.

The enemy design is great, and the weird little story is very interesting (and at times frustrating.)
There's a lot of really cute stuff in this game, as well as some pretty creepy things.

Definitely a great game and one of my favorites.

Ring of Pain distills dungeon crawling into its purest form: a circular nightmare where every step forward is a decision with consequences. Enemies, loot, and exits exist in the same ring, forcing you to weigh risk versus reward constantly. Attack now and take damage? Grab that shiny relic before the enemy acts? Or slip through the exit and live to gamble another floor?

The brilliance lies in its simplicity. The core loop is easy to grasp within minutes, yet endlessly compelling. Stats directly interact with turn order and survivability, creating tight, tactical micro-decisions every round. There’s no padding, just constant tension wrapped in a minimalist interface.

However, the game sometimes stumbles with unclear item descriptions. Some relics use vague wording or abstract effects, leaving you unsure whether a pickup will synergize beautifully or sabotage your build. And because everything happens in such tight quarters, unlucky card spawns can produce sudden, feels-bad deaths that feel less like strategic failure and more like cruel fate.

Still, the loop is dangerously addictive. “One more run” becomes five.

I've tried, waited a year or two, and tried again to get into this game. I don't think it's mechanically bad or anything. just could not get hooked and with so many games that fit the deckbuilding/RNG genre I can't find myself spending more time here. These games rely on your desire to keep going for one more run, but I keep thinking instead that "maybe one more run will make this fun".

unfortunately for me I lost a lot of save data for some random reason, so I most likely wont ever play this game again.
All things considered if its on discount you should just by it and if you don't like it refund it.

That said, I had a lot of trouble connecting with the game. It seems harder than other games in the genre and I just never felt like I was enjoying it as much as I had hoped I would. Ring of Pain has a polished and minimalistic look with very fun and interesting mechanics. This roguelike card crawler has a unique and engaging gameplay loop. There are only two endings, and the light ending is significantly harder than the dark ending. To achieve it, you usually need an extremely strong and well built run.

The game is heavily based on randomness (RNG), which adds to the mystery and keeps you coming back for run after run. Each run feels very different from the last, especially with the variety of items, enemy encounters, and the freedom to choose which floor you enter. The more you play, the more depth you begin to see in the mechanics and strategy.

That said, having only two endings can make the endgame feel a bit stale over time. The heavy reliance on randomness can also become frustrating and may turn some players away. Still, the game is very well designed overall.

As for the lore, it is quite scattered. There is a good chance you will not fully understand what is going on, even by the end. However, that mystery is part of what makes it interesting.

Even though I was frustrated while trying to unlock the light ending, I have to admit I was completely drawn into the gameplay. It is charming, atmospheric, and surprisingly relaxing despite the difficulty. If this style of game appeals to you, it definitely gives great value.

Feels good to play for the most part. Usually what kills you later in the game is just luck, you get unlucky with how enemies spawn and go from 40 health to 0 health in one turn with 0 options to change that. So like at a certain point it becomes "I hope my items work well" especially on the bossfight, not very much strategy to be had there. the first time I tried it I maintained full health fighting the boss for about 20 minutes and then died with enemies that attack me spawning surrounded by blockers, oh well. This is the kind of game I play once in a blue moon and enjoy playing and not having to bend my brain too much, but there's not enough here to keep me coming back for more after that first run of the day.

I absolutely love Ring of Pain.

I always enjoyed watching people play games like Slay The Spire, but found them to be too difficult to get into myself, and I think that Ring of Pain is a perfect game for anyone on the same boat.

There's a lot of strategy with items, and a lot of the new unlocks can completely change your mindset about what you want to focus on in runs. Also the Achievs to unlock them were really fun, and each of them felt like a nice puzzle to unlock, while also showing some real potential of items that you would usually dismiss in runs.

When first seeing the amount of achievs I thought that I'd never be bothered to get them all, but here I am, where I somehow 100%'ed this game without watching tutorials and was also having a lot of fun doing it, slowly being able to get every run in normal mode to the last bossfights.

Can 100% recommend this game for either beating it once, or trying to push it to full completion, its really fun either way!

Really fun card rogue-like. I can't say much about the gameplay as compared to other rogue-likes because I can't say that I have played a lot of them. However the vibes are awesome. A creepy, twisted fairytale is what this is and I love it. The music is amazing and while I didn't get a lot of the story in my winning playthrough, I liked a lot of the dialouge. Good game, I like it at least.

This is a pretty fun roguelike.

Pros:
- Interesting gameplay, with mechanics that set this apart from it's contenders, while still being simple and easy to get into.
- Lots of content to unlock & complete.
- Not much else to say, it's just fun?

Cons:
- Very RNG-Based.
- Hard is too hard, medium is a bit too easy. Combine this with the point above, and you get a game where you'll get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ by RNG all the time. You may have an awesome run, then suddenly RNG decides to kill you. This will happen OFTEN, and kinda kills the higher difficulty's enjoyment for me.
- I do enjoy the vibe of this game, but it tries a bit too hard. I don't like the mascot character, that damned owl. This is not a scary game, at all, so it just kinda annoys me for some reason.
- The story is whatever. I dont think it matters much for a game like this to even have a good story. It's clear that the dev has put some thought into how to implement the story naturally in a game like this, but ultimately it's implemented in a way where it interferes with the gameplay. You have to progress through a series of room to complete a run. Sometimes there's these "plot" rooms, where you get to talk to one of the two plot characters in the game. You get to have one short dialogue each time. You seem to progress in dialogue each time you talk to a character. After a long time, It just start to loop through random dialogue options. That means every time you've chosen to talk to a character, you could've instead gone through a normal room, and made yourself stronger. Then you figured out that you've potentially lost a bunch of runs, because you decided to "further" the plot.

In short:
A fun and different roguelike that provides many hours of fun, but relies too much on RNG, and has a story that is badly integrated in the game and should be avoided..

11 godzin. Tyle potrzebowałem, by wkońcu zobaczyć [spoiler] swoje pierwsze, w moim przypadku "jasne" [/spoiler] zakończenie. Okazuje się, że do tego miejsca dociera jakieś 40% grających. Wow. [spoiler] A to jak się okazuje nie koniec rozgrywki [/spoiler].
Potężna regrywalność, bardzo wyśrubowany poziom trudności, nietypowe mechaniki, a jednocześnie bardzo prosta rozgrywka. W komentarzach ciągle przebija się wątek zbyt dużego wpływu RNG na grę. Nie jestem przekonany czy aby na pewno to jest źródłem problemu - ginie się często. Po odrobinie namysłu stwierdzam, że mogłem po prostu troszkę bardziej pomyśleć, ale zachęcony dobrymi wynikami zaczynałem grać bez rozwagi.
Szykujcie się na dłuższe posiedzenia - nawet do godziny na jednym runie!

J'adore les jeux de cartes et de stratégie. Véritable rogue-like, ici aucune partie ne se ressemblera. Au début, certaines seront même perdues d'avance, mais en débloquant du stuff, vous pourrez avancer de plus en plus loin. Ce jeu rend rapidement accro, et donne toujours l'envie d'avancer. En débloquant des fins, vous débloquerez des paliers de difficulté supérieure pour mettre toujours plus de piquant au jeu. Le mode donjon est un plus et vous donne un défi (voire même un casse-tête) quotidien pour vous triturez les méninges. Un jeu qui change de ceux que l'on rencontre habituellement. Très bonne surprise !!!

好玩，沉迷了两个下午。这算打牌游戏吗？我确实是和面前的卡牌战斗，“打牌”无疑，但我手上是没有牌的，和杀戮尖塔不太一样。共同点是都需要谨慎决策，需要考虑遗物道具之间的配合。

然后我必须说说这个游戏的bug。我在mac上玩点击任何东西大多数时候都需要双击而非单击，有时候我想拿道具，却不小心连击到了后面的门口直接出去了……我还没发育完啊，怎么就让我下车了？这是一个极其严重的bug，已经影响到了正常的游戏体验，在steam deck上就没有这个问题。它有另外的问题。steam deck上无法同步mac的游戏进度，一度怀疑我关掉了steam的云存档，检查是正常的同步。鉴于游戏发售这么久，感觉开发者很难会解决这些问题了。（如果看到，请回答）

我太菜了，6小时没有赢一把，有时候感觉很糊，但一不小心就被秒了。一直暴毙，死到模糊，不愧是苦痛之环，痛并快乐着，不懂就问，这是魂类吗？这个游戏的爽点在于肉鸽的随机性，前途未知，道具随机，甚至连sl都被限制，暴毙重开一气呵成，糊起来的时候几下就杀死对面，自己衣角微脏。

游戏太小众了，热度不高，攻略都找不到。而我的朋友已经通关几次了，这才知道原来他才是真正的牌佬，而我只是个塔批。玩了才发现在epic上已经有一份了，正经人谁会看自己领了什么游戏啊（再次感谢朋友送的游戏，不然我根本发现不了这个游戏

Just finished 100%'ing the game. Ironically the last achievement I needed was "Die 250 times". I will echo what almost every other negative review has stated, the RNG in this game is intolerable.

The gameplay is actually really enjoyable and there were times where the builds and combos you could put together really made it enjoyable. However most of the time I was just fighting RNG. For reference I had 802 runs started. From those 33 were wins, 250 were deaths (most just for the achievement), and 519 runs were abandoned. That excessive and extreme number of abandoned games was because of how terrible and unforgiving the RNG is. It actually gets worse as time goes on and more items are unlocked. Many of the "terrible" items can be good if you get the correct other items that make them viable, but good luck. The game desperately needed the treatment that games like megabonk and vampire survivors have where after introducing an extreme number of options there is a way to narrow them down. There shoould be a way to limit or delete items from the potential item pool. There should also be a way to banish items from the mimics!!! The last one was especially frustrating when I was trying to do a plague run one time and while rerolling I came across the poison potion spellbook THREE TIMES in the same reroll series.

Oftentimes with heavy RNG games they are still enjoyable if there is some way to mitigate the randomness. It'll still be random, but you'll have some control to limit the wild erratic swings. Not in this game. That's the biggest problem with the RNG. Not the wide item pool, or randomness of mimics, lack of scroungers, stat buffs always skipping one type, lack of room selection or poor choices. The biggest problem with all that randomness is that there is no way at all to affect it. I could rant away, but there are plenty of other reviews that talk about how bad it is.

One thing I did want to point out, that I think is terrible game design, is never allowing the player to get OP. Yes, most of the runs will have people struggle to just barely get strong enough to survive because of the RNG. But every now and then I'd get a godlike combo going but then would hit limits in the game. Limits designed to make sure the player can never become too strong. Like why.... it's not a multiplayer game. Why?! The two specific examples I can think of are one time I was farming a firebead for agility in an attempt to get 100% dodge, but after getting to 165 agility I realized that it wasn't going past 80%, and neither was the stealth chance. Like bro, wtf, if I want to spend 2 hours grinding a fire breed for agility just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ let me hit 100% and be OP. The other time I was trying to farm up the sorcery book that would increase by 1 damage for each kill. I wanted to one-shot the boss. Farmed it up to 500+ damage and went to the boss fight, only to find out that if you hit the boss for too much damage it would reset it's health to half and go to the second phase of the fight. No. Just no. Just let me one-shot the boss.

BANGING GAME. easy to play. somewhat hard to master. Very satisfying when done so.
Punishing game with an amazing horror aesthetic - very fun playthrough and enjoyable to learn the different synergies between items and different ways the enemies can ♥♥♥♥ you.

Three hours into the game: Pretty hard rouge deck builder, no where near as good as Spire but a good distraction till Spire 2 comes out. Worth the $20.

Update: About 13 hours into the game and it is solid but once you get the meta there is not much more to do. I've beaten it on Medium, however the final fight for the dark path took about 30 minutes with the petrify build and I really don't feel like going through this on hard mode.

Again, it does a bunch of things right, it just is really missing variety. ']

I really enjoy this game, but there's not a super lot of replayability. The deckbuilding is fun, but once you find a 'cheap and easy' way to win [spoiler]for me, this was using the spellbook that gives you the primary stats of gems and then just collecting/frying gems[/spoiler] everything's fairly cruisy and once you've done both playthroughs to get both main endings, you might be able to change level difficulty or otherwise that's it. I'd love to see an endless mode or otherwise more reason to keep playing, because this game is genuinely enjoyable, but at the moment it feels like once you hit a certain point that's it. Overall, if you're a fan of the rogue-like deckbuilder games, you'll enjoy this... to a point. (Edit: Unless you're an achievement person, anyway. Then there *is* more to do. I, however, am not, so achievements will not keep me interested in something.)

Although this is a "card" game, you don't actually build a deck - builds are done by equipping different items on your inventory slots. This unique take on this genre, along with a very cool art style, an intriguing but not that flesh-out lore, and a satisfying gameplay loop make this a must buy for fans of the genre.

TLDR: Liked the gameplay but what about the end goal?

The gameplay loop is amazing. It's simple to get into, optimally challenging and quite addictive. I like that the runs aren't that long, even a complete run is around an hour. The visuals are good, and I like the atmosphere, especially the fact that the player gets to decide who to trust. Also, the game shows you the consequences each move will have, which is a huge help

But the huge downside is that there's no end goal, no true ending. You can keep completing runs on every difficulty, but it won't change anything. I really hoped that with each run completion, we would get to see more of the plot/lore, and eventually achieve the true ending. That's such a shame, cuz now I feel like playing is kinda pointless :(

That means that unless you are after getting all the achievements, then this game will last you around 6-8 hours. Taking this into account, I don't feel like the price is justified

It's clear that the developer spend a lot of time and effort on every aspect of the game, except the freaking basic plot to motivate you to complete multiple runs and try new difficulties. This decision is beyond me to be honest, especially since you do have some story elements incorporated already

明明隔壁免费送了，但由于真的爱玩，steam上也入了份。
可能也有本人卡牌游戏比较菜的缘故，打了几天才开始能通关这游戏了，难度比我最爱玩的怪物火车难上不止一个级别；只需要考虑构筑与战斗，却不用精算卡牌本身数值的玩法，意外的打起来“刀刀到肉”，很有代入感。由于玩家身板脆得很，打起来经常与怪物激情互秒，走错一步就可能导致直接暴毙，而有时基于游戏理解的一点巧思也会带来丝血翻盘，这也是游戏的魅力之一。
游戏的美术与谜语人的剧情对话也很有氛围感，不过游戏内容还不够多，欠缺打磨与包装，要是能花点力气打磨背景故事，写点卡牌故事等等，最终呈现的效果会好很多。明明游戏的美术资源已经尽善尽美，内容上却导致了游戏的廉价感（也难怪隔壁免费送）。
而游戏玩法本身我认为是有一点问题的—至少在最低难度，不应该把游戏难度体现在随机性上，玩家想打爽局时就让他爽得了，要增加难度就在其他方面增加。开宝箱怪贵，刷新选择更贵，刷又刷不到自己主打的职业，刷到了职业又刷不到需要的流派，刷到了需要的流派又是流派中的毒瘤牌；说真的有的牌根本就不配呆在它所在的稀有度，还有些金稀有度牌适用性又过于狭窄了。
前期摸到一张灵魂伤害，结果打到十多层了手上还是就这一张。在3，4层的宝箱刷新好几次下定决心玩这个流派的我像个小丑。
不是，你把卡组的构筑方式做这么随机，那玩家做卡牌联动的意义是？
如果能把宝箱怪的卡牌选择加一张，体验会好上不少。

看了眼数据，92局赢2局，给我自己看乐了

Great! Got this in a bundle with a bunch of roguelike deck builders. This was one of the stand-outs.

Runs are easy to get into. You build your "deck" on the fly, making each run feel a little different. There are decisions with tradeoffs and some rather interesting effects to spice things up.

客观来讲，这个游戏我会给个4星（满分5星），作为一款卡牌类轻肉鸽来说，实在是太吃运气了，但仍耐不住它很好玩。但是结局太少，玩法过于依赖卡牌质量，导致它也只能成为一款休闲型的游戏

This were my best 80 hours the game could give me, each new run was starting mostly as usually slow, but each room it snowballed even harder. Even that didn't make you god-tier slayer, just a little bit more chances you won't falloff that run on regular ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bomb-guy[spoiler](who for context mostly can one-shot you(or one blow I should say)[/spoiler]).

The intense keeps rising each bad item you find along the way, where you start to think you should restart, but wait, no, apears mega-super-duper-bonkers shi book\sword and here you ,basiclly have free-to-go run.

I rerolled runs.....A LOT...i am [b]A LOOOT of times[/b], while was trying to make some achievmenets. It was biggest frustration I had in while to have like +10 rerolls not passed even a early-game.
That were uniq for me turn-based card-roguelike, appreciate developers for work and community for suggestion in latest updated.

Completed all achievements within those 80 hours and feel relif that now with pure soul can leave that game on my glory board.
