You get what you pay for.
Retrowave is not a racing game. It's an endless driving experience with traffic as your obstacle. There are 5 different modes to play (multiplayer is empty, though), but they all end up playing the same way.
Every aspect of the game is OK, but it feels like, on the whole, it could be something even better. The scenery is great, there are plenty of stages to choose from, and the soundtrack is also good, and maybe that's why it raises expectations. Due to these aspects, the setting ends up being great, and having control of your desired camera also adds to it. I also wished the scenery would evolve or just change from time to time during a drive since it becomes pretty stale and boring after a while.
The game design choices are what bothered me the most. It plays too much like a mobile game with subpar driving, no variation or randomness from drive to drive, and a linear progression system forcing the player to play more and more to unlock upgrades. It also felt too easy even on the hardest difficulty.
For its price it's definitely worth it, but you won't get more than a couple of hours out of it.

Recommend running in desktop mode on Steamdeck, so it should run fine on all PCs. Very low stakes vibey game to put music on to and relax. More hypnotic than thrilling, but the speeds can get up there on Hard and dodging cars can become a satisfying challenge.

O único defeito que identifiquei como jogador que usa joystick foi a interface e usabilidade no menu. Para quem é iniciante se perde fácil nas opções e configurações. Nada que prejudique o jogo em si, mas corrigir isso aprimora a experiência do jogador.

decided to come back to this game after awhile when retrowave2 was released. this game is very enjoyable and satisfying. theres minor bugs but i dont really care as long as they dont include achievements. car edits are nice and theres multiple tracks. good choice to waste time.
The visuals and soundtrack are cool, however the gameplay is very limited. It's just driving in a straight road endlessly while dodging other cars and that's about it. There are different modes and maps sure, but there aren't really any more content that would keep the interest in playing the game more besides grinding to collect all the available cars.

I was expecting a racing game and this is not that. However the game is a great game to just play and chill. The aesthetics and ease of play makes it so relaxing. I was looking for a game that I could swerve in and out of traffic at highway speeds and for it!

This game is a very fun racing game. Love it. Worth the 3 bucks, it's sooooo good. I'm almost 9 hours in and I am trying to get every achievement :) It goes on sale frequently for $2 or under. I would really recommend this game. It's even better that the sequel and spin-off!The dlc is also very good, if you want an expansion!

Its a fairly simply endless driving game. Good for an hour or two of fun at its low price. Skip the DLC as there's plenty of maps in the base game and its a ripoff.

Es uno de esos juegos cuyo fin es que te entretengas un rato, te relajes y olvides la mierda que es la vida.
¿Recuerdas a las consolitas Brick Game? ¿Esas que llaman las Game Boy de los pobres? ¿Recuerdas que entre muchos de sus repetidísimos juegos había varios de carros en los que solo corrías y sumabas puntajes mientras te movías cada vez más rápido? Pues bien, este Retrowave tiene bastante esencia a esos jueguitos tan particulares.
Me resulta curioso cómo un juego tan sencillo puede llegar a ser adictivo. Solo es correr, esquivar y sumar puntajes; nada de competir contra otros vehículos como es la costumbre. Con una variedad de contenido desbloqueable, este título es perfecto para echar el rato y reírte con cada choque. La música synthwave no se queda atrás, aunque puede llegar a ser muy repetitiva hasta cierto momento de las múltiples partidas que jugarás. Tiene bastantes DLC, por lo que he visto, pero ya veremos si merece la pena comprarlos. Pero hasta entonces, basta decir que el juego base ofrece bastante. Se echa en falta un modo de carrera tradicional, porque esa es la gracia. Pero con todo esto, creo que el título está más que bien.
Manchmal will man nach einem langen Arbeitstag einfach nichts Großartiges mehr kein kompetitives Match, kein Story Drama, kein Stress. Einfach abschalten. Genau da trifft RetroWave bei mir komplett ins Schwarze.
Das Spielprinzip ist herrlich simpel: Du bist auf einer endlosen Autobahn unterwegs, gleitest durch neongetränkte Landschaften, vorbei an Retro-Städten und dieser ikonischen Synthwave Sonne am Horizont. Kein Druck, kein Zwang du fährst einfach geradeaus, lässt dich treiben und genießt die Atmosphäre. Genau diese Mischung aus Nostalgie und Entspannung macht für mich den größten Reiz aus.
Was richtig motiviert, ist der Fortschritt: Es gibt eine ordentliche Auswahl an Maps, die für Abwechslung sorgen, und auch die Fahrzeuge fühlen sich nicht wie bloße Skins an. Du kannst dir nach und nach neue Autos freischalten, indem du immer wieder auf die Strecke gehst, deinen Highscore verbesserst und Geld verdienst. Dieser kleine Loop funktioniert erstaunlich gut noch eine Runde, noch ein Versuch, noch ein bisschen mehr Cash.
Dazu kommt das Tuning:
Motor Upgrades, Turbo, Nitro, neue Farben, andere Felgen du kannst dein Fahrzeug nach deinem Geschmack anpassen und ihm deinen eigenen Style verpassen. Das sorgt dafür, dass man immer wieder zurückkommt, um noch ein bisschen weiter zu optimieren.
Ein kleiner Kritikpunkt ist mir allerdings aufgefallen: Das Nitro wirkt aktuell eher wie Deko. Egal ob aktiviert oder nicht beim Beschleunigen fühlt sich das Fahrverhalten praktisch identisch an. Da wäre ein spürbarer Effekt wirklich wünschenswert.
Technisch läuft das Ganze dafür absolut sauber. Stabile 60 FPS ohne Einbrüche sorgen dafür, dass das entspannte Fahrgefühl nie gestört wird.
Unterm Strich bekommt man hier für rund 5 Euro( mit Mappack Erweiterung) ein unglaublich stimmungsvolles Spiel, das perfekt dafür geeignet ist, einfach mal den Kopf auszuschalten. Ein großes Dankeschön an die Entwickler dieser nostalgische Vibe ist genau das, was ich mir von so einem Titel erhoffe. Ein echter Wohlfühl Trip auf Neon Asphalt.
good game but i will say you get what you pay for. On one hand this game is fun has, cool vibes, does the 80s thing well and it has decent music, however, the game is janky as ♥♥♥♥, bugs are very common, and the multiplayer is even worse and can occasionally be unplayable due to bugs. The only other issue is that it is just endless driving so if that sounds boring do not play this game.

It's an asset flip with barely no gameplay, that lives from its aesthetics of music and vibes. For a time waster at discount price it's fine, but not really worth it.
I liked the music and vibes but the gameplay is very limited. You're just holding down the forward button and dodging around cars while vibing with the music. There's a few different modes but they all feel like the same thing after playing for more than 30 minutes.
Beware: Getting 100% achievements for this will take you ~40 hours on a game that only has ~5 hours or less of content.

RewindApp is known for doing asset flip games and I was curious if this is just a one hit wonder or if they did it again. Well, who would've thought, it's just another asset flip trash game.
Retrowave is simple, like as simple it as can be, like every toddler can play it. Drive for as long as you can, and dodge traffic. Get near misses, and get close to traffic and just keep driving. without crashing and that’s it. After five minutes I was looking for ANY level of complexity. There are 20 cars and 20 tracks that all play the same and there are four difficulties but at the end of the day, I had seen almost everything the game has to offer in 20 minutes and then I played another forty because of cards and achievements. That's the only reason to play this.

which could be the skybox and road that’s being driven on, maybe a few small tweaks, but the gameplay, UI, and modes are the same. There are a few assets added to that pack, but in general, this is just that Unity Asset Pack. It also retails for 2 dollars, is usually on sale for 1 dollar, and has DLC that is just a huge amount of credits so you can unlock everything instead of playing the game.
The only reason it's "overwhelmingly positive" is because of 80s synthwave idiots who need a badge, a background and "MUUH VIBES" to get going. That is the only appeal for this: 80s idiot fans.
To be fair though: The backgrounds, emotes and badges are actually good... can't deny that.

I tentatively recommend. Gameplay is shallow, but it is more simulation or art school project than game.
Pros: It’s just very evocative of 80s/90s nostalgia. Assets, music, and overall simplicity of this experience creates a stronger mood. It is charming if you want to shut off your brain and cruise down an infinite road. That it’s a bit of an oddity and often on sale for less than a FIJI water is really its only saving grace. It is a bit difficult to explain, but Vaporwave, Space Beach, and Night-something are just very satisfying maps to go highway hypnosis on and get lost in the soundtrack.
Cons: DLC? For this? And DLC just to use your own music? Something you could do by just muting the game music and playing yours in another application? Why? The developers went on to not deliver on the good will this project won them. I wouldn’t call this even finished, but they made sequels that don’t improve on this and more DLC for those. Bad look.
I suppose another thing that sort of irks me is the game kinda incentivizes being a bad driver. That’s probably a minor thing for most, especially if the power fantasy of speeding, wrong way driving, and sideswiping every vehicle for combo points is what draws you to this game. To me, it sort of feels like a missed opportunity to do something more. Just for example, GTA may not be the best replacement for driver’s education, but you are mostly encouraged to avoid damage and law enforcement attention. There’s no free camera mode here and they didn’t include a way to save your score/cash from peaceful runs on one way & two way modes. You can still have a chill experience with light traffic, but it’s a little unfortunate there’s really zero point for them to have added a horn or siren or cop car models when they functionally do nothing at all. There's not even a cruise control.
If you want an endless driving game you might like Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors: Desert Bus. If you want a more engaging cyberpunkish driving experience, Cloudpunk is hard to beat.
I don’t regret getting this, but it’s a weak recommend for collectors and just those who already are going to gravitate to the aesthetic.
EDIT: and it just doesn't matter what setting it is. I followed the AFK timebomb mode on peaceful. This game isn't a game. it's a demo of a game the developers decided to resell you. 180, don't bother because they can't be bothered.

Just not my game. You drive endlessly on a road which allow you to unlock more cars and modify those cars. I liked it for a few hours for the beautiful background of the game, but I just get bored. Gave it multiple tries in the past and still didn't quite stick with me.
Drive fast or die trying.

Great time killer and works on steam deck despite it saying its not supported. Not the most complicated game but i could say its similar to temple run but in a straight line. Only thing I wish is that the police siren sound was better and if there was a way to turn it on and off.

Pésimo platino, es excelente para pasar rato pero un platino de 35h(Según el promedio) de puro conducir en este juego es frustrante al menos que lo dejes AFK.
Encima 1000 partidas?, na na, si vas a jugar de manera tradicional es una total pérdida de tiempo, -10/10 y zzz(El platino).
Ahora, el juego esta bien, tiene varios modos y bastantes mapas, si lo juegas de manera casual es muy entretenido.
La customización es excelente, tiene varios autos y la verdad es mejor que su secuela(Para mi).
La única queja que tengo es la duración, es demasiado para un juego de este tipo.
Porque tampoco es el mejor juego de conducción, “se nota el indie”.

Arcade total, excelente para pasar el rato.
Fun game, 100% does take quite some time just by virtue of needing to reach a certain amount of money and runs (though you could probably grind it out over a few hours if you took the trouble). Music is decent. Not very complicated and there are some bugs (do not equip some customisations because you will not be able to remove them afterwards), but it's fun for what it is, and it does capture the neon Synthwave/Retrowave aesthetic that we're here for.
