I learn't how to reload a Single Action Army in this game than real life
Buy this game if you want to get a Gun.
I believe this game will leave you as a better person, if you let it.
I got the game since it was all "have fun will realistic guns and malfunctions," and it certainly has not disappointed. There is a definite learning curve to all the mechanics and buttons, but give it an hour and you'll have it down, especially when you keep having a negligent discharge holstering and unholstering. At this point, I haven't unlocked all the firearms yet but I am still very satisfied with what I do have (excluding the Hi-point, just ugh). However, for a firearm-centered game, it has exceeded my expectations in ways I didn't know that games could achieve. (spoilers beyond this point)
Beyond the gun play, there's a certain "cultish" feel once you start playing tapes. You usually get the typical cult initiation speech where you "see the signs around you" and the world changing and "gradual dysfunction" surrounds you. "You are ready to become a 'Receiver.'" I almost completely stopped listening to the tapes since I just assumed it was cult slop after that, but I was struck by a certain tape that I picked up. I unknowingly picked up a Threat Echo tape and immediately noticed a different tone from the speaker. Instead of the usual monotone, almost soothing, authoritative voice, there was a low-down, dragging voice that just sounded like the speaker had finally accepted their depressing fate. I don't exactly remember what was said but it amounted to "I have tried my best, yet I'm nothing." Before I could process what was said, the words "The Threat is taking control" was pasted on my screen and my S&W Model 10 was slowly turning back towards me. I pressed every damn key on keyboard but it was like my character knew this was the only way. I looked down the steel barrel on my sidearm and saw a chambered bullet looking cold at me. The hammer dropped and I saw nothing but black. The trance I was stuck in was interrupted by a shiver going down my spine. This brought a whole new level to the game I was not anticipating. Sure, I read about themes of suicide and even checked the box acknowledging it, but actually looking down the barrel of the S&W was almost traumatizing.
After that incident, I paid much more attention to the tapes. At the slightest hint of the speaker having a depressive voice, I clear my firearm. I've only gotten The Threat Echo two more times, both conveniently with the Model 10, but both times I cleared the firearm before it's turned back on me. It's still extremely terrifying, especially as a gun owner, to have your own firearm turned against you, and to see the finer details like the barrel rifling while having that depressive event happen. It's funny how one of the tapes specifically talk about trauma, what it is, how it's formed, and what it does to a person. It's one thing to be "lectured" about it, but it's a whole other thing to be forcibly given that trauma, and have the only way to progress in the game to face that trauma by picking up tapes.
Whether it's intentional or not, that series of tapes lead me to actually listen and take in the tapes. By dropping the guard that I put up against these tapes due to what I thought was cult teachings, I got to fully experience the game, and still do, while also receiving valuable lessons. From the four rules of firearm safety and clearing malfunctions to the media being The Threat and suicide awareness within yourself and your friends. One of the tapes that has stuck with me speaks about caring for what you put inside your mind: "We are all taught to carefully monitor what we put into our bodies. We need to eat this and avoid that, and have this other thing in moderation. But we are never taught how to curate what we put into our minds. There's no use having a healthy body if your mind is poisoned. The Threat has used this control to remove choice over what you consume. If you uncritically view media, you are directly allowing the Threat to infiltrate your thoughts, and compromise your brain from the inside." Whether or not you believe media is The Threat in real life, it's still good advice that can be applied to other things.
Inside the game, there's plenty of stories of people who undergo these depressive episodes and come to believe that suicide is their only choice. However, either by previous Receiver training or intervention by a Receiver, the person is dissuaded or at least fails their attempt to commit suicide, giving them a second chance. However, on Spotify you can find two "songs" that are related to suicide. The first, being one minute long, is a full tape recorded suicide note. It's not an easy listen, even though it's not that gruesome or anything. It's just extremely depressing. "Threat Echo" has a man give his last statement, explaining how he wants his belongings spread amongst people he knows. It ends with him telling the person who finds this tape to throw his body in the garbage, because "that's where he belongs." Finally, you hear a hammer being ♥♥♥♥♥♥. One can assume his fate, but the "song" that follows suggests something different. "Threat Echo Recovery" has somewhat of a success story. It's explained that this person, Mike, previously recognized his depressive situation and removed all the ammo from his household for protection against The Threat. Yet, The Threat tried to kill him by driving his car into a tree, but he fortunately survived. During his recovery, he realizes that he would never call one of his friends garbage, so why would he call himself garbage? Truth is, he wouldn't. He never called himself garbage, it was The Threat who was.
The speaker never refers any negative action to be done by Mike himself. In a sound, non-depressive mind, he would never do anything to harm himself or his friends. It was The Threat who took control. And it was because of Mike's Receiver training that he was able to take back control by recognizing the depressive state he was entering.
While this may be a work of fiction, what stops you or I from becoming a Receiver? Becoming a Receiver may not even mean becoming proficient with firearms, it may just be knowing what you put into your mind.
EDIT: I've read some other reviews about the harsh ranking system, and while I do agree it's very harsh, I think it is fine how it is. I think it's a good metaphor for making stupid mistakes in real life, which can be costly. I'm not sure of the circumstances of others, but pretty much every time I die it's because I was impatient, stupid, didn't know mechanics, and sometimes, all of the above. There are tapes that emphasize being slow and methodical, by slicing the pie and (correctly) rushing through the fatal funnel, as well as fully understanding the features and limitations of your firearm. I think the whole point of this game is to teach you these things by punishing bad habits. For that reason, it may not be your type of game.

I enjoyed the hell out of Receiver, and the sequel is just straight better in every way but one... It gives you a Colt SAA as your gun for the last level everytime. The Glock is bad enough when you roll it, but having to deal with the Colt SAA when I'm that close to the end is just cruel.
Also, there really needs to be a way to fix blocked chambers on revolvers. You can get un-blocked mags for the semi-autos, but you can't fix a blocked chamber.

interesting gun mechanics, feels super involved to treat malfunctions and operating single action, double action, semi auto pistols, but super limited gun selection, not a huge amount of gameplay (matches 20 buck price range), interesting message with the story but overall kinda shallow, you can headbutt glass panes like ur lil cousin hehe
for some reason, you wear a weird pair of pants with 100000 straps and loops and always holster with ur finger on the trigger so you always negligent discharge, funny arms tired after ADS'ing for 1.5 seconds so ur aim beyond 30 meters is like drawing spaghetti but it rolls around like a figure 8 so u can still shoot, its just annoying more than anything, fall damage is nearly the same as far cry 3/red dead 2, a 3ft drop+ is insta dead for some reason

this game has done a lot for me.
on one hand, it's a frustrating, finicky experience, with probably the dumbest implication of sprinting I've ever seen.
on the other hand, this has taught me actual lessons on stress management, and the importance of actually seeking out help for my issues while also convincing me to stay a bit disconnected from the internet, seeing as "the threat" is getting a lot less subtle and I guess just trying to kill ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ EVERYTHING NOW.
play this at your own discretion! this is very intensly not for everyone, as I'm more than aware of the fact that most of my fellow gun nerds will probably tune out all the talk of "the threat" or "trauma" and I know that my fellow insufferable liberals will see that there are guns as a main focus, and attempt to assert a political connection via the countries of origin/military organisations they happen to be used by.
reviewing this game is.... well it's a very tall order personally. one I do not think I can actually meet.
in case you've read to the end, please know this: you are loved, you are thought about, your pressence brings joy to someone's life, go change your bedsheets, your life means more than you could possibly imagine. you are the waking universe looking in on itself.

Receiver 2 is a game about handguns, which you can tell immediately from how the core gameplay loop functions. You could say that once you clear a rank, you've seen it all; once you cleared the game, you played through everything.
I'm currently nearly halfway to clearing the game 5 times and let me tell you that no matter how many hours you put into this game, you can always find a way to die.
THE GAMEPLAY
Personally, I've been enchanted from the first time I booted up the original, but the sequel is just better in every way: guns have way more details, look a lot better, handle satisfactory (besides a certain hipoint, but that's a personal grudge).
The killdrones are actually pretty clever, especially in later ranks, patrolling areas, sometimes even whole floors, and every type of killdrone has both strong and weak points (like drones being fast and deadly but being the quickest to hack [spoiler]and cameras having the widest beam and not being able to kill you directly but being the longest to hack[/spoiler]). Overall, resource placement feels more generous than R1 but as always RNG can screw you up so don't expect to be showered by ammo and tapes all the time.
Lastly, the windows are actually meaningful here, as they can change the direction of your shot, obscure vision (sometimes pretty badly so you have to clear the glass first) and can even [b]kill[/b] you!
THE STORY
Even though the game doesn't serve you the story on a silver platter, it's not hard to at least connect some dots together, while listening to the same tapes for the 15th time. Without going into too much detail (and spoilers), it provides the base facts necessary to immerse yourself pretty much instantly, as it requires but a single tape to start getting the picture of all the how, why and so on. For the average review reader, just know that: there is a Threat that intends to kill you, so of course you must protect yourself - that's what the gun is for. Collect tapes and raise through the ranks as you uncover the reason you're still retrying after all those failures.
THE VISUALS/SOUND EFFECTS
Simply put, both are on top level. Every sound is useful, crisp and satisfying (in its own right) and the visuals are simply stunning, as even the city in the background looks amazing, even if it isn't the players main focus.
THE DIFFICULTY
Saving the best for last, yes, the game is hard - sometimes even very hard. Personally, even if it feels straight up nearly impossible at times, it's still fun to try and figure out if you can crack the puzzle before getting tazed to death. The game makes it so that you have to learn all the mechanics intricately if you want the best chance at survival, which I really like. It isn't enough just to be "good", as even a good player might get distracted, drained of ammunition, surprised and then it's just you and the skill you obtained. Having survived many questionable situations, all I have to say is, the game is hard but fair ([strike]sometimes[/strike])
CONCLUSION
Taking everything into account, I can easily recommend this masterpiece to anyone not afraid to challenge themselves (and the awful hi-point iron sights). It's really well polished complete with meaningful and challenging achievements, some high-tension moments and a satisfying conclusion upon beating the game

i see it now i can feel the guns. THE GUNS TALK TO ME THE GUNS. THE GUNS TELL ME THAT this game is good and you need to get it.
Receiver 1 was a very cool bit sized game with an interesting concept and an innovative modding scene. When I saw Receiver 2 I thought it was even cooler than the first one. The thought of having to clear jams and tolerate the real flaws of weapons while under fire was quite a sell. When I bought it though I noticed that it felt more just like a remake of the first one. Many of the tapes you collected were the same across both games just with a different actor. There weren't any new enemies, just the same old Turrets and drones. To make things worse, there's no steam workshop support. It felt like a very small step forward if even one at all. The only real progress was made toward weapon jamming and graphical quality. Don't spend money on a minor upgrade when you can get Receiver one for a fraction of the price
If you like trains, this game will make you like handguns.

Such a huge difference between the first game and this one. This game is incredible and really feels like it completes what the first game set out to create.

Loved Receiver 1, and this is a very good upgrade to it. Full on story, more weapons, better performance, and more. Just wish I was able to beat it!
Learning the indepth gun controls is really satisfying, and they make each gun feel unique even though they're all handguns. The clunkiness of controlling the guns so manually encourages a slow, tense playstyle. The tapes you collect are also great to listen to, well acted with some interesting lore as well as real-world gun history and safety info.
After playing this game, it's going to be seriously annoying to you that no other game does gun mechanics like this.
I look back at my favourite shooters and wonder about how much the quality of those games would improve if they just took example from this developer.
Truly unique what's done here with the gun mechanics. Every gun truly feels different and earns respect in how you have to handle it to handle it safely.

Спавн случайный генерация уровня случайная в целом игра относительно двухмерная по генерации то есть или вперёд или назад в стороны развилок нет разве что по вертикали иногда.
Основная механика достаточно реалистичная перезарядка большинство действий надо делать самому дозаряжать магазин заряжать каждый патрон в барабан револьвера крутить сам барабан иногда есть ограничение по максимальному боезапасу для пистолетов или заблокированные слоты револьвера (их никак не разблокировать ну или я пока не нашёл). Правда оружие прячеться в кобуру тоже достаточно реалистично из-за этого при взведенном курке или не поставленном на предохранитель пистолете оно будет стрелять тебе в ногу и очень часто шотать (в этой игре еть Glock 17 и у него предохранитель прямо на курке короче всегда стреляет при неакуратном использовании). Патроны конечные находятся на уровне или лопая шарики.
Враги турели дроны убивают пулями.
Короче как я написал в самом начале игра офигенная жалко что разраб забросил.

Criminally underrated title
As a Gun nerd i love it
Ultimately I think this game is good, but it does have quite a few problems. It should be maybe 5 bucks cheaper, and the game is clearly starved for content.
There are plenty of issues with pacing, including sending you back a rank when you almost die, which really sucks and seems like its done just to pad out the game.
This creates a feedback loop of impatience, where I'm anxious to get back to the higher levels and start sprinting everywhere, and then I die to the easy enemies, etc. This feels ultimately unintentional and frustrating.
The guns are REALLY nice, but I do have some issues with some of the keybinds.
Why does Z put the mag back in the semi-auto but R puts the cylinder back in the revolver? It's almost intentionally confusing. It almost feels like the game would be EASIER if I was shooting a real gun. The tactileness and intuitiveness of most guns doesn't come across here. Functionally, they're the same action, why are they two different buttons?
I do think that whatever game these guys make next will be amazing though.
I don't think I will ever find another game quite like this. I am finally a receiver. Play this game for your own sake. This game genuinely has done things to the way I see my world.

For the record You WILL DIE allot, I can see that allot of players managed to finish the game in less than 10 hours. I needed 54 extra hours, because I kept rushing and getting frustrated and loosing fucus.
You WILL DIE but it when I did it always felt like it was on me, the controls are clunky but that is part of the experience. This game will give you allot of good insight, and I cannot recommend Receiver 2 highly enough. It will take time but finish it

I genuely don't know what to say. I love this game for various reasons like the atmosphere that it puts you in, the way you have to control your firearm, the ost which is just insanely deep ( emotionaly way). This game want me to feel something, something strange, something deep. And ngl, it succesfully did.
Just dropping this rewiev because I play this game for over 3 years now, and I don't regret my money beeing spend for this game and I might consider buying the soundtrack. It's alright. I only give it a positive review because I can overlook the jank and strange design choices. Game's inherently pretty slow paced and has a pretty sterile gameplay loop. Biggest problem with the game is when it's trying so hard to be realistic it becomes a parody of itself. Can you wing yourself with a Glock 17 while holstering? In a technical sense, yeah. It shouldn't happen every other time you do it though. The main character, without fail, will always sprain their ankle when jumping down more than 2 feet. And there's a mechanic that allows bullets to ricochet and hit you if you're not being careful. That's neat, but still happens if you shoot ply wood or glass. If you want a stealthy gun sim that feels like it has some polish, you're better off with a game like Ready or Not.

This is a game about carefully checking rooms. The whir of a motor, or the sickly blue light of a turret's camera... Look closer. A red LED in the darkness, the barrel of the turret it's connected to promising death to the slow or unobservant. Time to choose. Can you sneak behind it without waking it up? Do you have the ammunition to take it out from here? Is your aim good enough to land a debilitating shot, or do you think you might miss at this range?
Whatever your choice is, make sure to check that your firearm is safe. For revolvers, that means the hammer is down or the cylinder is open. For semi-automatics, that means the safety switch is on, or that the chamber is empty. Hold tab to make sure you don't shoot yourself in the leg.

Honestly this wouldn't have to exist as more than just the tapes for me to give it a dazzling recommendation considering how important and meaningful it is. I've been trying to grapple with and teach others the principles of having control and peace with one's own mind and thoughts for basically my entire life and to see the things I've discovered or learned about echoed here has helped me feel a lot more hopeful because it means I'm not the only one. Even if progress is slow and the understanding may be incomplete, more and more people are coming to the same conclusions or at least being exposed to these ideas. Anything that deprives you of the ability to make conscious decisions or obscure your understanding of reality are things you don't need and can be disregarded, no matter the cynical excuses made to the contrary. It's all about striving for the well being of your mind and others.
As for the game itself, it's simple but fun. There really isn't much to say aside from the handling of firearms is pretty spot on and the atmosphere is well executed. You will die often but getting overly frustrated here is counterproductive.

I wish the hacking was optional. I don't know what it is, but the game responds too slow to my button pressing, so I have to press again, and then without fail the turret gets alerted. I practice in compound, and the white symbol and white thing I'm supposed to be keeping at the right height against the background of mostly white light doesn't help matters. I understand this is probably a skill-issue, and I'm working on it, but being forced to do it in order to get a gun really ruins the game for me.

Came across this game by accident on you tube ( Jonathan Fergerson EXP ). Great at showing gun safety and what happens with improper handling , and you get killed by them . Really liking the vibe but haven't got far enough in to actually know what its about yet . Despite getting killed a lot , and I mean a lot , still keen to learn more .
Also have got rid of a fan out of the house as it makes the same noise as the turrets !

I have very mixed feelings about this game, on one hand I love the mechanics and the level design, but on the other hand, and especially the early game, does not reward you for effort, your focus degrades under repetition, which the game has a lot of, and because of the degraded focus, mistakes increase making deaths feel arbitrary which collapses motivation. I like the game but it does not reward the player through time spent.
every Tacticool™ TF141/Sicario wannabe should be forced to play this game, and everyone else with even a passing interest in guns should play it. one of the few games that respects firearms for what they are in real life. the aspects of exploration and discovery are also great fun and deeply engaging. For example finding the arcade machine containing the entirety of Reciever 1 in [spoiler] the secret room hidden in the lobby of the Compound [/spoiler] or the many other secrets around the Compound. within a week of buying it i put two other friends onto it, if that adds any credit

The message and themes of the game are incredibly powerful and sincere, but only if you let them be. You can apply them to real life. It's the kind of game you finish and keep thinking about and play every once in a while to remind yourself of the headspace it puts you in.
I took this game very slowly. Very, very slowly. Carefully planning where to use my one (1) bullet. Searching every nook and cranny for another one. Deciding which of 4 different paths has the turret that's least likely to end my life with one shot. Experimenting with blind spots, learning where I can stand and not be seen by cameras. Praying the level will in fact be possible to beat (it always was).
I suspect I had a much cleaner playthrough than most people, but I think this is the sort of game that rewards you for pausing and reflecting and nailing your fundamentals. Reload. Tap the magazine. Make sure the bullet's chambered. Over and over until it's almost automatic. You'll have a much easier time.
I am a receiver. Maybe you can be, too.

This game isn't really a game. It's more like a piece of art or maybe a political statement on gun deaths. For this the gameplay really falls to the waist side in my opinion. It's difficult to progress and everything (guns, locations, narration) just repeats and repeats every time you fail to progress. I want to finish the game to some extent. It's exciting getting new guns, and seeing new enemies, but with this is a barrier to progressing and it just becomes a chore.

This game teaches you to work through severe aggravation and antagonism. Mastering it requires a lot of muscle memory as you press and hold the right buttons in order in order to reload and stuff. Running (by default) requires pressing the forward button repeatedly- which is surprisingly responsive once you get the rhythm down. Jumping through windows and the shattering glass is very fun. This game is probably my favorite "Parkour" game, too- just running around and spamming space to climb things.
This is a decent facsimile of what it's like to operate actual handguns. If these devs make a zombie shooter with these weapon mechanics that would be an instant buy. They could give bonus points for using more difficult to operate firearms or something idk. This is really fun though
