A bit money-grabby. Requires investing too much time or money to get little in return, which you can also just blunder by lagging and/or losing the character (which are forced-hardcore).

Твой персонаж не более чем история, мимолётный абзац в твоей игровой биографии, а не полноценный несокрушимый герой. И это дарует совершенно иное, почти экзистенциальное переживание от потери того самого, кому ты последние десять часов кропотливо собирал билд. В этой утрате нет привычной горечи - есть завораживающее опустошение. Сердце бьётся где-то в горле, сознание замирает, руки начинают мелко дрожать, а на экране - очередная смерть. Ты был готов, ты знал, что это неизбежно, но сама эта неизбежность ничуть не облегчает эмоций. Напротив - она их обостряет до предела, превращая рутинный гринд в танец на лезвии.
При пятидесяти часах чистого геймплея Я всё ещё с удивительной уверенностью называю себя новичком. И меня самого поражает эта парадоксальная уверенность. 9/10 : A unique, addictive MMO with a few frustrating barriers
Realm of the Mad God (RotMG) is a fast-paced, multiplayer “bullet hell” MMO where permadeath is at play - if your character dies, they’re gone for good, along with the gear you painstakingly earned along the way.
I’ve been playing this game for nearly 10 years, starting when I was about 8. Back then I was terrible, but over time I’ve improved a lot - and that’s part of what makes RotMG so rewarding. It’s a game you can sink dozens of hours into, step away from, and then return to again and again without losing its appeal. There’s something timeless about its gameplay loop that keeps pulling me back.
It’s honestly a shame the game never fully caught on in the mainstream. You see streamers playing all kinds of lesser games, and it feels like if even one big creator gave RotMG a real shot, it could blow up overnight.
That said, the game definitely has its downsides. The biggest issue is how reliant endgame content is on organized Discord groups. Take Shatters - arguably the hardest dungeon in the game. It’s extremely difficult to complete without joining a Discord server, because success depends on repetition and coordination with experienced players. The problem is, public runs are almost nonexistent, so if you don’t want to join external communities, you’re effectively locked out of that content.
The same goes for Oryx 3, the game’s “final” boss. Access requires special keys, and again, most runs are organized through Discord. Without that, your chances of getting access to the dungeon are pretty slim.
As for monetization, a lot of players criticize Deca, but I think that’s somewhat overblown. The best gear in the game still comes from dungeons, which are free to access. While you can buy items, they’re generally mid-tier, and since RotMG is PvE, any advantage you gain doesn’t harm other players - it often helps the group as a whole.
Overall, RotMG is a fantastic and deeply engaging game with a loyal player base. Deca is constantly making updates to the game, trying their best to keep it alive and material new. I really appreciate their efforts to improve the server connection-consistency, as that was a major downside to RotMG, but they’ve improved it tremendously. Its core gameplay is incredibly strong, but the reliance on external coordination for endgame content holds it back from being truly accessible to everyone.

Very fun, extremely pay to win regarding the pets. Players who have the best experience have spent lots of money on their pets, thousands of hours for experience in the hardest dungeons, amongst other get arounds to the insane difficulty this game poses.

Quit playing after multiple consumable items just vanished, such as skins, character slots and cosmetic glows. They know the bugs exist, they just don't care, because they want you to pay real money. And if those purchases disappear too, they won't help you. I spent almost two weeks back and forth with their Support, and finally got my pet glow back after being told they couldn't do anything without video evidence, knowing I could not provide it. They go round and round with you and hope you just give up and forget about it.
I earned a character skin during their Easter event, but it never appeared in my closet, and I'm not spending another week with Support to get it back. Nobody wants to play a game where you can literally lose items because of a bug that could be fixed in 30 minutes. Sad that a Roblox clone has less bugs than the original game.

I say overall yes, but there are some caveats to that. Starting out you would have to either know someone who plays or look for a guild that accepts new players. The new player experience is COMPLETE dooky. I played a long time ago and came back to the game with no idea what's going on and no way to understand. I've slowly been piecing things together asking around. With already having a ton of experience I know a new player would be at a complete loss at how to actually progress in a meaningful way and what matters.
The microtransactions are the MOST atrocious in any game I've ever played EVER. This game is NOT pay to win, it's pay to win faster and pay for more storage / character slots. This should honestly be explained to the player anyone who see's the shop will think the whole game is just p2w when it's not.
Pets are a huge part of the game and basically aren't explained at all.
That being said, the content in the game is SUPER fun. All of the new content that Deca has put out is great! Just playing the game and dodging bullets is really awesome, so if you know what you're getting into and know how to work around it I'd say I recommend playing.
Warning! You will definitely lose your most powerful character to a completely stupid mistake right when you think you are invincible, but starting over is just part of the fun.
How much did I enjoy this game? Answer: Yes, with extra dodging!
Realm of the Mad God isn't just a game; it's a pixelated maze where every dungeon hides a chance to get rich or lose everything in a single second. I’ve lost count of the hours I’ve spent since 2016 running around, collecting loot like my life depends on it (because it does), and rebuilding my characters from scratch.
The game hasn't changed a whole lot since I started playing, but surprisingly, I keep enjoying myself every time I come back for more. It is a mix of RPG and roguelike that I just can't find anywhere else. A dungeon might be as dull as it can be rewarding, balancing safe runs with moments of pure panic.
The ultimate goal? That just means staying alive long enough to show off your gear. The real fun is in the cycle of risking it all. Just remember: when you start thinking you have it all figured out, the game will remind you that you don't. You will die, and you will start all over again, but building back up is exactly where the magic is.
Pro tip: Don't get greedy trying to pick up a loot bag while the boss is still shooting. That shiny item isn't worth starting from level 1 again!

Realm of the Mad God is the only game I know that can make you feel like a legendary hero and a complete idiot within the same 30 seconds—and somehow keep you coming back for more.
You’ll spend hours carefully building up a character, stacking gear like you’re preparing for a royal wedding only to get vaporized by something you definitely didn’t see (but absolutely should have). Death isn’t just a setback here, it’s a lifestyle choice. Progress is temporary, regret is eternal, and your best items are basically on loan until the game decides you’ve had enough joy.
And yet… it’s brilliant.
It’s punishing, unfair, and occasionally soul-crushing… but also fast, fun, and ridiculously satisfying when things go right for more than five minutes.
In short: it’s like volunteering to get punched in the face, then thanking the game afterward.
Rating: 9/10 – I’ve lost everything multiple times and I’m still recommending it. That should tell you everything.
P.S. Spend only on skins and permanent modifiers.

Addicting bullet-hell gameplay. I remember playing this over a decade ago when it was still a web browser game. after replaying it recently, im astounded at how hard the developers have throttled in-game currency and battle-passes. im 60 hours in and havent seen any new enemies. same stuff from 10 years ago. just with a bit more "please spend money" sprinkled here and there. No attempts at QOL changes, no introduction to new players, constantly crashes servers, its like they gave up long ago and just use this game for scraping in money for other projects. its sad to see so much potential sit there silently, never improving.
EDIT: they have announced big changes recently and im dumbfounded. soon ill revise my entire review if their roadmap is true. Im starting to love recent updates.

the funnest game ive ever played
The only issues are server related, often occuring in crowded/full servers. Account in use error, force disconnects. If you can see past that, then this is a solid perma death bullet-hell'ish game.

Great game ruined by greed. Seasonal system turned this game from a hardcore MMORPG to a money grubbing treadmill.
A little janky and kind of a slog, but it's a fun gameplay loop.
this game literally slimed my task bar and task manager after crashing, literally could not reset my task bar without task manager crashing after one click or action on it, i do not recommend this if you play on a laptop. i dont even know why it did this, since it seemed to be booting up fine.

honestly, if you first WATCH a tutorial on this game and really see the beauty of it, id say its the top 3 games i played. very hard at times and always fun! recommend but PLEASEEE for the love of god before you play this game watch a tutorial. 10/10

Super fun game but DECA are pretty terrible and don't address issues like achievements or cheaters or most importantly the new player experience. I'm sure they could bring back a lot of players and get a lot of new ones if they actually did anything but that doesn't seem likely.
Cons: Horrible new player onboarding, horrible endgame that requires discord usage, immense power creep that isn't enjoyable in any way.
Pros: A lot of really well made skins and pets, the base game mechanics are pretty enjoyable.
Verdict: The devs don't care about the playerbase outside of the whales, as they keep catering updates to p2w. Don't play this game, it's not worth your time.

I started with the old version on a website. When I switched I lost some stuff but kept playing. Then after an update I could not login for maybe two years until very recently.
I had several more character slots among other things and since one of these updates they all went away. Still not returned. In addition, I cannot get achievements for some reason. For example the rogue class is unlocked but I did not get that achievement on steam.
If you are starting now it should be fine but as an old player I feel betrayed.

非常好玩，可以跟朋友一起瘋狂進大廳裡玩家開的副本刷關，跟著一堆玩家生存及通關率都會提升很多。小可惜的是沒有中文，但其實玩法簡單所以英文方面並不會太難理解。遊戲定期會更新新的版本活動，關卡設計或者boss都會有所變動，刷指定的副本也會掉落期間限定裝備、任務兌換票卷、人物或寵物造型，在人很多的伺服器大廳能很爽的一直蹭一直刷!!!

I used to play many years ago, upon opening the game as of 2026 I have had numerous things thrown in my face that I could hand over my credit card details for. This did not used to be the case back in the day. I will play and see how it goes and if I think Its got anything more to it now I will update my review. If I don't just assume its an uninspiring crash grab like most games. The pop ups for money are screaming mobile game.

I just keep trying to come back to this game and I just never can anymore. I used to play this back when it was on a website of all things, I think this was like 8+ years back. I played religiously then, and in the past 4 years I have switched to Steam and then ultimately stopped.
The evolution of the game has been neat, but the cash grab has really been what has developed. The game has gone from a challenge to... almost an idle game, just waiting for someone who DOES spend money to waste a bunch so you can get keys and such. The mechanics of pets and potions are so integral to the game, but never touched on meaningfully and leaving those new or just unfamiliar to the mechanics at a complete loss for how to really use them to progress.
Overall, I can't say I would recommend the game anymore. The P2W aspect is nearly Pay2Play for it's realistic limitations, and while the core of the gameplay and mechanics are till there, everything now involved with "playing" the game has changed to feel as a corporate and hollow cash grab for the last few years :c
