No other game like it
Quake Live is the first FPS game I can actually post a positive review about on Steam. The gameplay is very challenging but rewarding as you learn. As the greatest quake dueler has said "The beauty of the game is the person sitting across the table". Quake Live has been going strong with active servers and a solid game balance for ages. It successfully outlived Quake Champions, Overwatch, CSGO, Diabotical, etc.
There are some downsides to this game:
Developers have abandoned it, but Im hoping with fresh reviews they might reconsider reinvesting into QL instead of QC.
The majority of active players are extremely weird people. I grew up on the internet and have become unphased by basically anything I could possibly see, but somehow Ill occasionally play a match on here and be utterly shocked by the average chats in this game. The typical type of chat you will see randomly being spammed is like "People call Epstein a monster, bro just say you weren't invited". And thats probably the mildest post you'll see on the regular. Hopefully more people could find the game and enjoy the gameplay to hopefully offer some normal people to socialize with.

Last time I played Quake Live was over 10 years ago and let me tell you this: It's more fun than anything out there today. The best part is even if you're getting dominated by veterans of the game - it's still insanely fun.

Don't listen to people. There's enough players out there. Might be hard at first, but once You get a hang of it it's the best effin gameplay ever. But most importantly - play clan arena - that's where the real fun is and it never gets old.

I do believe that Quake Live was popular back in the day, considering it's Quake 3 Arena enhanced, but let's start with the fact that QL was F2P back in the day, and now it's paid.
As a game to introduce you into Quake Multiplayer? I wouldn't recommend it, honestly. My introduction was Quake 2 with friends, and in there, I learned everything. Speaking of learning, Quake Live's tutorials are not helpful, as the videos that teach you fundamental stuff like Strafe Jumping and Rocket Jumps are private now, making you learn it all yourself. Tutorials themselves are rather hilariously hard, not challenging - hard. THE bad meaning of hard.
Quake Live is pretty much dead now. The last update was in 2016, you can't play with friends in private servers easily, like in Quake 2, making you create a server with port-forwarding. Most servers are dead, and the game itself is buggy - Achievements are known to glitch out and stop counting just because they can, and no-one will ever fix it, because why fix Quake Live, when you have Quake Champions you can milk?
It would've been a nice Quake 3 Arena replacement, but only if it was updated and fixed. But right now, I can't recommend it, as you will probably stumble across old grumpy grandpas that do nothing but play Quake Live, Strafe Jump like gods and destroy you. Can't recommend.

My progress is stalled and my achievements are completely broken, I don't receive medals and my career data is still at 1 match played and 0 kills. A friend of mine bought the game on the same day and it works for him, so I'm really salty about this, I already tried everything but nothing fixed whatever this problem is.

Lo recomiendo, hasta hace algun tiempo no estaba tan seguro de comprarlo porque nunca fui muy fan de la saga Quake, pero esta entrega es buenisima, es una version muy mejorada del Quake 3 Arena original. A mi parecer deberian hacerlo gratuito. A dia de hoy la comunidad latina al menos donde he visto, esta algo viva, me gustaria que se hiciese lo mismo con UT99. Tiene un par de bugs y cosas raras aca y por alla, pero bueh. Tiene muchas opciones para el apartado competitivo que son muy interesantes y que estaria bueno que otros juegos implementen.

There is typically 3 servers that have humans in them and they play with 20 people on 6 player maps. Every time you spawn you are instantly in a 1v5. There is no map control, no item control, nothing that made quake 3 good. It is no wonder everyone left for fortnite because all that is left is bad players that need spam matches to feel good. It doesn't matter how good your aim is, you are barely going to get about a 50% k/d ratio due to how much they lowered the skill ceiling in this game.
Pretty telling times when even fatal1tys choice of game is now battlefield. Quake is dead.

Einer der wenigen echten Shooter aus vergangenen Zeiten (damals noch Quake3Arena). Kein Quatsch mit Helden- oder Dodge Fähigkeiten der Helden oder anderen sinnlosen Kram. Einfach Waffe schnappen und ballern. Map-Knowledge ist sicherlich von Vorteil :)
This game is fun. however, expect to get kicked alot because ppl don't like that you aren't good at the game or won't follow whatever rules without explaining, this is very unfriendly towards casual or new players, this game is mostly for toxic tryhards who don't like that they aren't winning and try to laugh at how bad u are and then get pissy when you clap back and mute u. it also has very low player count, so don't expect to get into many games because this game is mostly dead. however if you can get over that, you will have a good time if ppl aren't trying to act like it's a 2009 cod lobby and saying the n word repeatedly or acting like they are higher than a kite, hopefully i can get more enjoyment out of this, and so can anyone new playing this. 5/10.

If you didn't grow up playing Quake, you wouldn't get it. Modern FPS's outshine it in some ways, and yet I still come back to this punishing, fast-paced shooter. I doubt anyone under 35 plays this game, and if they do, good for you son.

I grew to love the game mechanics. probably best movement I have ever experienced.
better than quake champions, classic fun gameplay without the ability and character stat bs, all about skill. tho there is no skill based matchmaking or casual play, its only servers hosted by other people. might be difficult to get into, i would recommend playing the other quake games first (not quake champions) and then getting into this one.

However, it is a game that's very fun to lose at. You respawn very quickly and there's almost no punishment for getting fragged. Trying again and again and gradually getting better each time and slowly rising the leaderboards with each game you play is a very fun and rewarding experience imo. And once you reach the level of skill where you're able to keep up with other players without being left completely in the dust you feel like a god.
I mostly play on Homer Side Server, which has a very fun and active community. Of course there are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in any game, but my experience there so far has been 99.9% positive.
TL;DR: Quake Live is a great game, but only play if you're okay with losing.
Quake 3 Arena in the form of Quake Live is still a great fps game. Plenty of action both online and offline. Multiplayer still has 250+ players in the evenings playing Clan Arena/FFA/Duel etc. With more on weekends. Game is very stable and even a potato computer should be able to run it with 60+ fps.

The king of first person shooters, I like to come back just to train my reflexes, after some matches every other first person shooter you play will look in slow motion, It's the hardest fps you can play, in few seconds you have to choose between a huge arsenal of weapons, every weapon for every situation
But you're too busy grinding trash and ♥♥♥♥ in extraction looter shooters, and cry when someone killed you, they killed you because you never played Quake, buy Quake Live and get good
