Calvin & Hobbes meets Twin Peaks meets that random mobile game your mom plays. Short yet sweet but still absolutely amazing. There's also gnomes. 10/10
Underrated puzzle game with a detective story. As a big puzzles fan, this puzzle game is absolutely made for me. The story and characters were intriguing too. I was even spooked a few times by the horror elements. It's fairly quick to complete, but it is a worthy experience for me.
I really like puzzles, but this was just. Not satisfying? It wasn't fun to solve most of these, and the actual storyline puzzle isn't solved at all. I feel like I just wasted my time. I'm not even inclined to get the second one, I have no expectations that the answer (if any) will be worth my time. Also the final gear puzzle pissed me off to no end, that wasn't even visually cohesive.
Love love loveeee this game. First played it when I was around 8 years old with my basically uncle -- and though I wasn't any good I still remember having so much fun and always looking forward to it (the red gnomes did give me nightmares though). After getting steam and seeing it on my recommended page I just had to get it and do a playthrough. The story is really interesting and unique allowing me, a lore-fanatic, to really be invested in the story and not get bored quickly. I'm still not the best at puzzles and some took. . . . well a little longer than they should. But I am still having a blast and totally recommend this game to anyone who has any interest in mystery, puzzle, and detective games!!! 100% must buy!

This game was very fun! it had a good mix of easy and hard puzzles. It was a good challenge to get the brain working. I did enjoy the storyline because it was the right amount of creepy without being that scary. It got my imagination going. It's interesting to play a game about other cultures' folklore.

I'm not sure if I recommend this game or not. The puzzles are not difficult and there is a lot of hand holding. Also, the game does not account for multiple solutions for many of the puzzle types, which is very frustrating. There are only a handful of puzzle types replicated throughout the game. I did enjoy the story, the characters, and the creepy mystery, and the art and music are good, too. However, the abrupt ending of the game really threw me off, and I was disappointed until I came here to read reviews and learned that there's a Puzzle Agent 2. Thank goodness. I hope it provides satisfying closure.

Kinda comedic, full of characters, mystery doesn't give itself away early. The puzzles slowly ramp up and there are a few hard ones.

Fun, not hard, cool looking
is starts well with quirky style and humour and easy puzzles to then feel repetitive and with dubious instructions. It also ends suddenly without finishing the story, like if its just an intro. the style is great though
In the end my favorite part of this game isn't even puzzles - though they are pretty decent, even though on an easier side (except few trickier ones near the end). My favorite part is the story - it's fun, with some colorful characters, a bit silly, but also unexpectedly, pretty spooky
And the cliffhanger does its job and makes me want to go play Puzzle Agent 2 immediately
If you're a fan of stuff like Twin Peaks or X-Files and love puzzles then you'll never need another puzzle game.
Having never heard of it, I bought this expecting something like Time Gentlemen, Please!, but got a short, but challenging, puzzle game more like a Professor Layton instead.
TLDR: I stopped the game at this point, because there are puzzles that even when following the rules, do not take every possibility into account. Sometimes there are hidden rules, that are not told to us, but are assumed to exist, causing you to fail puzzles and get frustrated.
Full Review:
The game feels weird. The art is a certain style, but I don't mind it and it fits the humor and voices that are used.
The game holds your hand a lot. You do not roam around the area's freely, where you have to read the story to know where to go to next. You go where the character says you go to next. Certain things are also missable, as when you enter an area, it might change where you come back out, after you did all the stuff in the area because you are not allowed to leave earlier.
The puzzles are pretty easy. There are a lot of similar style puzzles, by which I don't mean a second or third version or a similar themed puzzles, but different puzzles using the same core mechanic / puzzle type. Next to that, there are puzzles who help you along the way, eventhough you might not realise you were correct. This mainly happens in the put pieces together puzzles, where once two pieces who should fit together are laid next to one another, they are stuck together. This is both needed, because they don't provide enough room to cleanly lay all the pieces to the side and build from there, so your board is always messy and pieces are always overlapping, but on the other side, while you are trying to solve, you will just accidentally move a piece correct, even if you were not looking at it at all, thus, it ruins the puzzle for you. Some puzzles also do not clearly state the "rules" of the puzzle. Because of these not mentioned rules, multiple solutions exist, that the game doesn't give you, because you click on submit and suddenly the guy moves differently than you inteded, because you didnt't know. (I do not mean puzzles where you think you have a solution, which is suddenly wrong, but then you realise you was indeed incorrect due to a rule you forgot to take into account)
With all of this, the game is thus pretty easy and it feels as if it is made for younger people. But then, the story is quite dark, not whimsical or intriguing, so I don't know what the intended audience is supposed to be?
Thus, after all of this, the game very quickly becomes frustrating and the story does not feel worth it to continue. I would not recommend, personally.

Well worth the money
I first played this back in 2018 and i have to say i enjoyed it much less the last time i tried it. The story and characters were entertaining but it was a handful of the puzzles that stumped me really hard back then. I dont know if there was a patch in the mean time or if i just became better at puzzle solving, but i didnt feel like i had as much difficulty figuring things out this time and thus had a lot more fun.
Don't get me wrong there were still a few puzzles that were tricky enough that I needed to break out the pen and paper and manipulate them in the real world to figure out. There was a good variety to the puzzles for the most part though some of the mechanics of interacting with them (connecting points with lines, rotating squares) felt overused. I really liked how sometimes [spoiler] the puzzle would be halted by the gnomes stealing a piece forcing you to solve a different puzzle to get it back it happened rarely enough that it was always a spine tingling surprise when it happened but often enough to not feel like a gimmick [/spoiler].
On the bad side there were some puzzles that felt like they could've used more clarification on the rules as I had to make assumptions to figure some of them out. After reading the hints for them and thinking about them further, the answers oftentimes made more sense, but the best kinds of puzzles are the ones that are presented in such a way that they are clearly explained and understandable but require you to think through them without such assumptions and make you feel like a genius once you figure them out. You get scored on how many times you submit the wrong answer or how many hints you use, but there doesn't seem to be any "real" penalty for playing poorly. Nothing is locked behind score requirements, and it could've been neat if you were sent down an alternate path depending on how well you handled a puzzle (example you scored low on one or two puzzles so the next ones will be a bit easier but the story might lead to a worse ending).
I really like the art style, it doesn't really come out in the screenshots and trailer but its 2d characters in 3d environments, but because of the really nice crayon line art and textures its all very cohesive. Story is pretty standard fare for a mystery, with a little comedy to spice things up, the jokes were never laugh out loud hilarious, but they were more tongue in cheek and got a chuckle out of me on occasion.
Overall I enjoyed this playthrough much more and am gonna go straight into the sequel which i never gave a chance back in the day. I'll finally get to see what happens after the clffhanger ending of this game.

A good classic, charming, *if maybe dark and kooky), point n click mystery game set in a puzzle ridden Minnesota.
The brain teasers are fun though a bit repetative over time. All puzzles are in a pen and paper aesthetic and under no time stress. Good difficulty level of challenging but not hard. Very different levels sometimes between very easy to maybe lacking in foolproof instruction clarity. Opportunity to hint system.
A good bonus is the voicelines for all dialogue!

it's a fun short game, very short, I've done two playthroughs years aparat and my total time is less than 4 hours. So about 2 hours to complete the game fully.
Need the second game to complete the story / mystery, but really story rich pair of games, especially if you like puzzles

I loved this game. it reminded me of Professor Layton games and that was my real start to this category of game. The graphics aren't my favorite, but other than that 10/10. I heard the future of the series is unknown and that makes me sad.
Fun little puzzle game that doesn't take itself too serious, the premise is interesting enough, the art-style is nice, and the puzzles are generally pretty good. The pacing is also quite good and the game doesn't overstay its welcome or pad itself out.
If you like puzzle game with great story like Professor Layton series, this game is for you. The puzzles are creative and the story is engaging. It is more serious than Layton, I feel like playing one of the Goosebumps story book. One of the best Telltale Games in my opinion.

A fun short game, beautifully animated, in which you follow an interesting story and progress through it by completing diverse puzzles, that I say do not get boring due to their uniqueness. I really enjoyed it.
A fun, story-based puzzle adventure. Besides the fitting objects into a shape and tile rotation puzzles, the puzzles were generally engaging and fun.

The difficulty is just right, the story is intriguing, the art style is cool, but the ending is one of the most abrupt and unsatisfying endings I've ever seen in any media.

This game is a lot more fleshed out and engaging than at first glance. I thought it'd just be some pithy dialogue and pretty good puzzles. But it really blew me away with all the stuff it wanted to do and got away with. I really didn't think I'd come out of this overjoyed the sequel is direct, rather than being disconnected, but here I am!

Good atmosphere, but the puzzles--the point of the game--are pretty lame, old chestnuts typically too small not to submit to quick brute-force. The few that I missed getting on the first try were due to ambiguous instructions, e.g., no indication that the arm-wrestling tournament was single-elimination. Hints unnecessary even for the clueless. I got my $5 worth from the story, but no more than $5 worth, and I'm an easy mark for small town Fortean conspiracies.
This seemed laser-targeted at someone who isn’t me. Obviously, it does homage to that peculiar strain of neo-noir that was popular throughout the 90s where the law comes in from the outside and finds something bordering on the horrific or supernatural; those works I know only by reputation. But it puts a twist on that to be something all its own.
I think of it first and foremost as a Graham Annable vehicle, where he’s got this comic style that is certainly appropriate to a children’s picture book, but the actual work subverts the expectation here or there. Or often. So on that note, I thought the “horror” spoofs in both games were a little too intense for my frayed nerves; at the time I played it, I had the feeling it was “trying too hard” when that probably wasn’t fair. Although it is rated E, it has content descriptors that should be taken seriously. That is why it is hard to recommend in my eyes; it’s not really “for” a mass demographic. But I’m doing it anyway, because if it’s a bust with you, you’re not out very much.

Played this a few 20 years ago when it came out, just revisited and still loved it. One of the all time greats in the adventure genre.
В общем это не квест, а такой набор головоломок. Головоломки простые, но если прям тяжело, то можно использовать подсказки. В оющем вы там идете по сюжету и решаете головоломки. Игра проходится часа за три может 5.Ключевое в игре это наверное некий такой а-ля норвежский юмор и криповые рисунки. Дополнительный шарм игре придает ее такая олдовость. Поиграть можно но не ждите что вас прям придавит геймплеем :))

best telltale game
The puzzles all felt like they had an appropriate difficulty level. I used hints about 50% of the time but ultimately was able to solve every puzzle. I spent about 14 hours playing. My only complaint is how it ended lol it was very sudden.
cutesy n silly game, for whimsical smarties
The story of this FBI agent is just a mean to address you 30+ puzzles of various difficulty. So, negative? No, because, maybe the music, the drawings, the locations, the suspence...put these ingredients together and you get an elegant and well balanced game. You must love the puzzles, clearly, the winter scenarios of loneliness in the remote USA, and being not so scared by gnomes. Gnomes?

Un muy divertido juego al estilo de los de layton, puzzles interesantes y divertidos, pero no puedo no comentar lo terribles que son las instrucciones en algunos, no sentia que esos puzzles fueran dificiles, solo no entendia las instruccioens y estaba confundido en que hacer. Ademas siento que la cantidad de puzzles y general duracion del juego era muy baja, solo 37 puzzles, el juego original de layton tenia mas de 100, y a menos que te atores solo dura unas 2 o 3 horas, Igual debo decir que la historia y los dialogos eran buenos y la calidad de la mayoria de los puzzles era buena, asi que realmente lo recomiendo
Oh man this was all sorts of charming i'm practically blushing.
Pretty much like Professor Layton, but with a dry quirky midwest United States vibe. So if you're the type that has a NYT subscription just for the puzzles, you already know you'll eat this up.
To anyone on the fence, or to the big brains that are more discerning with what they choose to puzzle themselves with: what you have here is 4-6 hours of of a quirky mystery broken up by about 40 puzzles. Some of the puzzles are pretty derivative- things you might have seen before elsewhere, and they repeat; but a few of them are pretty inventive and rewarding head scratchers to solve.
At the end of the day it's a third the price of a sandwich (without fries) nowadays, and it kept me entertained for longer than a sandwich usually does.
I enjoyed it.

Visuals have aged well, story is interesting, and the puzzles are fun. Also, Tethers is my spirit animal now.

Wish there were more. Love the simplicity in the artwork, the humour, the logic puzzles, the story, the voice acting....nothing to complain about really, other than it's short...and there are only two. :-) Replay every now and again.
Silly agent, with silly puzzles going bonkers in a strange town.
The story is great in that small town weirdness, FBI agent losing his mind way like an episode of X files with fox mulder, and the art style nails that comic strip vibe. But every time the narrative hooks you, the game drops another obtuse puzzle in your lap that either feels insultingly easy or frustratingly unfair, killing the mood faster than a math quiz on a Friday. I can't call it bad but the base game mechanic can be a bit annoying at times.

This is a very short but fun game
A great vibe and incredibly fun story! If you're a fan of David Lynch or the Coen Brothers you will have a lot of fun with this game! The Sheriff is my favorite character from the game.
Get it! The story keeps you hooked throughout the whole game. Puzzles are also great.
Game makes me feel dumb but art and story is peak
100% the game in just under 3 hours. Thought I must've missed something and got the bad ending, even though I had done every puzzle without mistakes or hints. Because I'd missed 1 optional puzzle. So I played it again.
Nope! What an ending. The story is lovely but it feels like a setup for a sequel and therefore incomplete. I am glad I played it but also glad I bought it in a bundle with other games.
a bit strange, but cool to see some of telltale's earlier work before their more popular titles like wolf among us and the walking dead.
Highly recommend. A lot of fun, totally worth the $5 price tag.
This is a puzzle adventure game where you solve a bunch of individual small puzzles to advance the storyline. I gave up on it in less than an hour; it didn't age well at all in my opinion. It felt like an inferior version of the Professor Layton series, with humor that I found quite grating. (Much of it is basically "isn't the rural Upper Midwest funny? Har har? Oh they are going to eat HOT DISH! And it's cold outside!" I don't know if it improves later.)
The artwork is cool, but the animation is the type of low-cost work where you only have the keyframes and very few inbetweens. I don't really see this anymore at all, even from indie developers, and there's a reason for that. It just feels extremely choppy, even when it is a deliberate artistic decision. The puzzles themselves didn't age well either, and I thought the entire "quasi-FBI agent" framing was annoying. If the game had either the puzzles or the writing going for it, I would've finished, but as it was, I couldn't see myself playing all the way through - and it's supposedly a short game.

Really enjoyed this except for the ending. The setup is great, the puzzles are really well tuned to be fun without being frustrating, the story is often hilarious. But the ending is one of the most unsatisfying endings I’ve seen in a long time. We’ll see if the sequel does anything better with it.

Not all the puzzles made sense, but it was fun. I wish I could give this a "Thumbs Middle". The animation was delightful. The story...well, the story still has me scratching my head.
Quite an engaging game, despite not all puzzles being incredibly straightforward it has a good pacing. The story itself and characters, though not thoroughly explained, are quite interesting too. Only wish it had been a bit longer.

Great game, balanced puzzle and great athmosphere
Gameplay-wise it's just Layton Professor. Story with puzzles that are like separate puzzles from puzzle books that don't interconnect with each other. Both Puzzle Agent 1 and 2 are part of the same storyline with largery same gameplay so you probably should get them together, albeit 2 leaves many plotholes and loose ends, woot.
But Graham Annable style, wooh! That newspaper cartoonist style turned cozy, woah, it's not just static visual, it's in the whole game. Slightly thriller, many small pauses between dialogues, very fun voice acting. Screaming. Makes the whole deal enjoyable. Not A+, still a bit B, but still. I even like that some puzzles are a bit messy or have Common Sense logic here and there, kinda fits good there.
When I am consistantly able to to prove that my solutions are correct even though the game is saying otherwise there is a problem.
Puzzle Agent is an adventure/puzzle game by Telltale Games. It released in 2010 and was the first game in their experimenting with other ways to make and play games. I loved this game, though it should be known that Puzzle Agent and Puzzle Agent 2 are actually one full game. This first game will end on a cliffhanger that is picked up and resolved in the second game. The puzzles were quite difficult but also a lot of fun. And I certainly didn’t expect the spookier elements but it totally made the game. I loved the main character Agent Nelson Tethers and all of his reactions to the townspeople and their mystery. It kind of reminded me of the Professor Layton series as well. This is a must for those who like to solve a mystery and puzzles.
Interesting small games and cute conversations, but the jump scare is a bit too much for me.
Truthfully, this game was just not my vibe at all. The puzzles weren't always formulated clearly, and the plotline... Well, it left quite a bit to be desired. It was too wacky, but that might also just be a me thing 🙈
