Project Starship is a fun little retro bullet hell that nails the 90s arcade aesthetic with its chunky pixel graphics, CRT filter option, and genuinely catchy chiptune soundtrack. The procedural enemy and powerup spawns keep each run feeling fresh, and the slow-down mechanic gives you just enough control to weave through the chaos. That said, the randomness is a double-edged sword — some Mad Events feel borderline unfair, and it can be hard to tell what hit you when the screen fills with projectiles. For a dollar, though, you're getting a surprisingly feature-rich package with multiple modes including boss rush and hardcore, and the energy of the game is hard not to enjoy.

This is bar none one of the worst shmumps and or games I have ever played in my life period. It both looks and feels like a flash game, and until I read the description which explicitly states it's purely randomized I had no idea if the banal and utterly monotonous quality of my run was intentional or not. Turns out the RNG is just so poorly salted you can get what I got, which is a bootleg Touhou clone that's so barebones it doesn't even have a sound effect for your shot hitting enemies, let alone the enemies dying. The 'enemies' are 90% abstract blobs and shapes, the music loops continuously, the ship has the SLIGHTEST of inertia on movement, just there to make you question your sanity and then hate turning. And, lo and behold, to top it all off, there's a stage which introduces collision damage from terrain with NO indication what is the terrain or that it's a unique type of damage. I just assumed I was getting hit by invisible lasers until I realized what I thought were pre-fire laser indicators were actually THE BOUNDARY OF THE WALL I WAS SUPPOSEDLY 'FLYING INTO'. No bump or screen shake to indicate I was smashing into something, no distinction from a normal hit, and there goes a run where I have otherwise not been hit into instant oblivion. There is nothing of value here and I question the sanity of people who were able to enjoy playing this game.

Буллетхелл, в котором на зажатом Shift можно бесконечно пребывать в замедлении, вне зависимости от установленной сложности (всего их две). Далее о особенностях игрушки:
- кораблики отличаются только цветом, а по количеству выстрелов выдерживают одинаково
- в зависимости от персонажа разные боссы(?), либо дело исключительно в случайности
- управление нигде не указывается. Запускается в маленьком окошке. (Alt+Tab помогает растянуть позорное разрешение 4:3 на весь экран с полосками по бокам конечно же...)
Предлагают на старте разве что включит TV-эффект и он таки меняет отношение к простенькой графике в хорошую сторону
- музыка понравилось, но озвучка кринжовенькая
- играть мешают не только чересчур ядрёные взрывы (оставляют здоровенные окружности!), но и очки (нужные только для рекордов. постоянно с каждого противника летят на игрока, словно небольшие пульки. зачем так делали? лучше бы просто так очки засчитывались)

Pues... este titulo es un Shoot em up/Bullet Hell puro y duro~♥ como shmup tiene todo de estos: power ups, escuditos y una "bombini" y como bullet hell todo lo caótico de estos... incluido un apartado randomizer y tu puntito vital; es amigable con jugadores que no son asiduos al genero ya que tiene modo fácil donde puedes con un gatillo ralentizar el tiempo, para cuando la pantalla se llene de demasiados enemigos/balas y no mueres de un golpe; tienes 6 inicialmente que puedes "mejorar" o perder, ya que su parte feita (punto de vista personal) es su apartado "randomizer"/roguelike todas tus partidas serán diferentes y una mezcla de enemigos, niveles y power ups... lo único que no cambia son los bosses... así que... put0s roguelikes arruinaron los no roguelikes(?).

El Plot es el de todo shmup; salva al mundo de...ThucuLoh... que diga Cthutulujuju; podemos escoger a uno de 2 personajes, que no cambian mucho, mas que la estética y los sonidos de voz ingame.

+El Gameplay es solido, si amas los shmups/bullet hell una solida adquisición.
+La Banda Sonora es decente; no molesta y a la vez tiene beats bastante bonitos.
+La cantidad de power ups y enemigos es decente... menester mencionarlo ya que siendo un indie le echaron ganitas; que hay que enfatizar eso, ser un jugador a un creador de jueguitos es muy diferente (hacer jueguitos es un infierno y jugarlos no tanto xD).
+La curva de dificultad/aprendizaje es buena; necesario decirlo: es un titulo difícil... pero justo, todo depende de que tanto quieras avanzarlo... lo que deriva en su aprendizaje y sorteo de obstáculos.

>Lo Malo:
-Put0s roguelikes los odio! ÒwÓ en este caso los power ups debes medirlos conforme a tu estilo de juego; hay power ups "trol" que en vez de ayudarte te pueden cambiar todo... así que prueba todos y memoriza que hace cada uno: el mas roto es el aim bot.
-Muchos mencionan su duración o de que es un "árcade" lo que es relativo a cada persona: si eres un chino que juega con sus bolas y se termina todos sus títulos en 20 minutos; pues obvio sera una tontada el titulo... de otra forma te dará buen gameplay en lo que aprendes y dominas el jueguito (ojo yo no lo he terminado, llego hasta un cuarto boss y en mis primeros 30 minutos no pasaba del segundo).
-Podría ser... el arte que bien es amateur... y se entiende; y aun así es decente; considera que es un indie, un titulo hecho por tal vez 3 tipos o menos.

Pues... si eres amante de los shoot em ups como io, es una solida compra 7/10, tomando en consideración que viene de un team pequeño de desarrolladores, de otra forma y si es que buscas algo mas elaborado, hay mejores opciones, sin menoscabo de la calidad de este titulo; que da una experiencia buena con tan poco presupuesto ojo que es un titulo difícil, y dominarlo es lo que le da gameplay.

I'm not going to pretend this game is perfect, because there are some not-insubstantial drawbacks.
The powerups that drop keep dropping after you're maxed out on the stat they would increase, the upgrades are incredibly unbalanced, with some being straight-up downgrades if grabbed at the wrong time, and at just about no point is what any of them do actually explained.
That said, somehow, it's still fun. Don't expect greatness from it, but you can do a lot worse.

A quaint little game going for a specific old school Japanese arcade game aesthetic. Clearly inspired by Raiden and similar vertical shooters.

It's not terrible but it feels overall unpolished and strange. The most off-putting aspect for me was the lack of sound effects for... most things, including enemies getting hit, the majority of enemy attacks, and the player getting hit or killed (although that does have musical distortion to indicate it). Also annoying is the lack of i-frames (and/or screen clearing) after getting hit, which is what you'd expect from most games of this type, and leads to a lot of fast drainage of your health.
The game is also a bit inconsistent with its visual and audio style, with some sprites being pretty clean while others appear intentionally limited (the character art in particular), and the fact that the game has many 8-bit style sound effects and compressed voice clips despite playing modern electronic music.
I will say that the music is actually surprisingly good, one of the best aspects of the game.

Again, the game is not horrible, it's clearly someone's passion project and of course it doesn't cost much at all. It is a serviceable cheap vertical shooter. But, I can't bring myself to play it for very long. It probably should have spent more time in the oven before it was served.

The sequel, Project Starship X, looks a heck of a lot better. I might try it out at some point.

I can see a lot of people enjoy the game and have given it a thumbs up but I just can't get into it, it feels too chaotic, too uncontrollable. I can't say I enjoy the art style or sound design either sadly, so it's a no from me.

I didn't spend that much time on this game, but I went through it 1.5 times, why a one and a half and two, and all just passing it the second time I had a computer cut out almost before the final and when I turned it on I was dead. The game is gorgeous do not know how 10 has not played yet, but this game is just a shtick and buzz in its purest form
I went to get it for two hours and went on business, I like it.

Суть в том, чтобы летать по космосу и убивать всех инопланетных монстров.
Игра сложноватая, с первого раза невозможно пройти. Ещё мне понравилось в игре, то, что в ней можно играть вдвоем: один на джойстике, второй на клавиатуре.
В общем рекомендую, мне очень понравилась, покупайте!!!

Juego simplista pero muy entretenido. Lamentablemente se queda corto en contenido, pero que será implementado en "Project Starship X" junto a nuevas mecánicas (al menos la DEMO está buena).
Tiene algunas fallas ortográficas, cuando golpean la nave dice "¡Ahí!", en vez de "¡Ay!", pero no interfiere en la jugabilidad.

Okay, look. I have played close to nil of this, and yet I feel compelled to make a review.

It's a decent two-button vertizontal sh'm'up.
Shields take place of lives, once those are dead there are no continues. Extra shields are given as items by regular enemies.
Instead of any multi-weapon or other sh'm'up style gimicks, it just goes for a psuedo-rougelike powerup system. Changes are moreso aesthetic, but power goes up regardless. Missles and extra guns are also pickups. Bombs also vary, some not even having the functionality of screenclearing, while others do.
Gameplay style does lean towards bullet hell rather than pre-Batsugun sh'm'up, however. If you are looking for the latter, Devil Engine is a good place to look, or so I've heard.

Controls are tight, as they should be.

Soundtrack could be seen as repetitive, but it is well done and catchy, but you will memorize the opening riff of the first track.
Enemies can be sparse at times, as well the patterns get repetitive in the first level, things amp up a bit later however.
Slowdown both slows the player ship, and the framerate down from 60 to 45.

One pretty annoying thing I find is that the game is fixed at a very low resolution, I think it's somewhere around 640x480. This is alleviated if you use Lossless Scaling, a utility for sale on Steam for about $5 ($2.50 while it is on sale as of 6/29/2019), and I would suggest you get that regardless of if you get this game or not. It is playable without it regardless, I should know as I finished a run of it in said low resolution.

It also has a curved CRT filter, if you are going for that.

I would suggest you get the game. It's cheap, and for the money it is a very good game.

As a non-genre follower, first and foremost, I would like to praise the game for offering quite generous hitboxes in combination with a variety of enemies and power-up mechanics that actually work thus creating a pleasant casual schmup experience where you ain't on the brink of a nervous breakdown but nevertheless still have some degree of a challenge and associated fun.

Shooting is well-done, music is splendid, also caught quite a few pop-media references (oh, I love the EVA one!).

An excellent way to spend an evening, especially at such a low price - would recommend to all the gamers who like to play a top-down scroller once in a while.
