A good fun space RPG
Giving this one a thumbs up, but do know you're getting into a pretty rough game. It would be one year before we got something on the level of Loren, but Planet Stronghold was a great foundation for what was to come and has a lot of unique things going for it. You just have to get to grips with the maximal UI, busy angular art, and the rather rough difficulty due to some choices with how armor works (don't be afraid to start in easy), along with the odd pacing (the first four chapters are basically the training wheels before the game fully opens).
It does pick up from there, ends up having some fun characters once their hangouts open up, a surprisingly interesting conflict and route split, and there's satisfaction to be had once you know what you're doing and can play the enemies properly to control the flow of combat. I'm enjoying this a good bit, but you do need to have some experience with clunkier RPGs to vibe with it I feel.

2. Имитация многообразия. Кто-то на это все еще ведется? Нет, покрашенный в другой цвет пистолет с новыми статами это не новое оружие. И уж совсем дурной тон множить количество врагов также путем покраса. В крайнем случае, раз уж так сделали, не стоит похваляться количеством и многообразием врагов и вооружений.
3. Сюжет. Очередная история Мэри Сью, персонажа первого уровня, которая по прибытии на место сразу начинает разбираться с ситуациями, с которыми до нее не могли справиться опытные офицеры. Общее ощущение самой умной среди некомпетентых сохраняется неумолимо.
Каждый из этих пунктов в прискорбную сторону отличает эту игру от других продуктов этих же разработчиков. Вы можете лучше! Я же видел!
Плюсы (они ведь есть):
1. Хороший саундтрэк
2. Неплохой стиль артов локаций
3. Интересные хотя и не слишком сложные игромеханики.

Ce jeu n'a pas d'âme. C'est un RPG en mode visual novel. Mais l'histoire n'est pas intéressant, hyper générique, personnages pas attachant... Rien à en tirer de ce coté là.
Pour les combats, ils sont nuls. Très génériques eux aussi, pas franchement bien équilibré, ni grisants. Pas d'animations, juste 3-4 différents bruitages selon l'arme utilisée.
Pas de stratégie originale ou particulière à adapter. Frapper, se soigner, prier que la RNG soit pas trop dégueulasse.
Une grosse perte de temps et d'argent pour un machin qui aurait pu être fait en 1h en game jam.
Même l'interface est franchement mal branlée, pas clair, aucun son, une gestion pas intuitive... C'est l'enfer de l'ennui côté gestion des persos et de l'équipement.
Le seul point "un peu" positif, la DA est pas complètement à chier, je mets un 5/10 sur ce point.
Le jeu en lui même est un 2/10, parce que j'ai pas vu de bug...
Et encore, je suis persuadé que ma snipeuse pouvait tirer 2 fois en AIM au début, et en reprenant le jeu elle ne pouvait plus tirer qu'une fois...
Mais c'est ptet moi. Bref, n'acheter pas ce "truc".

A simple sci-fi rpg, but certainly enjoyable. It's kinda like Mass Effect 1 - introduces a cool universe and takes You on a very clear journey with your very own crew of heroes.. it was fun enough that I jumped into the Planet Stronghold 2 right after.
Entertaining, but definitely showing its age. VN choices are fairly limited, and combat is slow. Still worth playing if you are looking for a simple RPG\VN.

The story is good enough to drive the game and give a sense of progress.
while the UI and Menu can be a bit tricky to get used to it is not as bad as other comments make it out to be.
The combat can be tricky at times but give a sense of rewarding ones u figure the right tactics out - even though the RNG can be quiet frustrating.
I guess i wouldnt recommend to buy it for the full price, but on 75% sale (~5€ for me) it is worth getting if u are interressted in this short of games.
This is a very simple game. Short and simple.
Story is pretty generic and writing is simplistic, music is unremarkable, combat system is rudimentary and characters don't have much depth. Romances don't have much development, but CGs are pretty - graphics overall are charming. Replaying is tedious.
Still, it has some charm to it. So, if it's on sale and you're bored, give it a go.

It's a pretty simplistic RPG with a heavier than average focus on relationships. Which is not a bad thing, it does what it does well, just without a whole lot of added frills. A good game for people who liked Mass Effect or Dragon Age, but don't want to dedicate that much time into those sort of games right now for whatever reason.

A game I didn't like as a kid, but it fed into my recent carving of light SciFi games - as in not that open SciFi, more closed off and manageable with more emphasis on RPG elements and party combat rather than spacecraft flight and whatnot - by only happening on one planet with a set of contained areas.
And kid me was right: image having a rough draft for a story (it's been polished and has no spelling mistakes, but hasn't been lifted from idea format with due diligence and has a barebones story) and not only making it out to be a "full fledged", but a commercial game and a visual novel and those thrives on great stories. XD
Barely any companion is truly interesting (those that are make it worth playing), the combat can be speeded up with the skip button - the animations are barely there and not interesting at all and the sound effects are serviceable, but basic - and should be interesting and flashy enough NOT to make happy I can skip it, but it sure isn't, the artwork is well done, but with very few character facial expressions and the style is older and far less polished than Winter Wolves's later game - that's the right assessment for the whole game: serviceable, but not polished at all and very barebones everywhere it counts - and the music mostly won't play unless you're in a few scripted areas.
You have classes to pick from, but all that does is give you haedstart in some skills, later the game is very generous with EXP and repeatable encounters and you can buff up characters a lot and make them multitask easily. On the easiest difficulty (I'm going with that because combat is boring anyway, though you can switch the difficulty as you wish at any time) very few quests are timed and those that are, are very generous, so you can heal nearly after every battle and only fail, if you're going out of your way to do so and you only advance plot if you want to after a while, so you can maximize the affection all characters have for you with ease.
All of which I greatly appreciate for a very laid back and chill experience.
The only thing I don't like are gender locked romances, not because that doesn't make sense, it's more believable for your companions to have preferences, but because I'd need to replay this train wreck to see where that leads to with the person I'm most interested in seeing develop (a blind psychic soldier more suited to being a medic).
Storywise a certain someone in a position of power has been exterminating alien races since before your character arrived and that's absolutely something that's been used a 1000 times over, but what really hurts is having it all done in a very lazy way - it's all talked about, but in ways that gloss over any detail, at least have a short battle cutscene with someone being killed for minimal believability - and it's presented in the most generic way imaginable.
Not a strong suit where the medium demands one.
Another wrong move by PS: you can only romance one character, but the game NEVER tells you that before your character just flatly refuses another character's advances just because - later games like the Amazon Princess at least had the decency to warn you and even made dialog options out of who the player was trying to romance at the same time and who would react how.
Bottom line: Winter Wolves have some fantastic games, but this one is near the bottom of the barrel, avoid at all costs, unless you're purchasing the game to learn what NOT to do with a visual novel.
Относительно того что обычно высирают Winter Wolfs, игра хороша(ещё вспоминается Bionic heart) К сожалению, контора прославилась ярым стремлением к толерастии, и это у них минимум на уровне биотварей.
А сама игра, не самая простая(начиная с харда) смесь визуальной новеллы и так сказать тактики, уж слишком она упрощена.
Тем не менее, играть можно, да и женские персонажи(кроме иных рас) вполне неплохо нарисованы. А вот про мужских(для м-ж романов) такого не скажешь..., зато дополнительные персонажи(Беллами и Кёниг) колоритные ребята.
Если ещё не успели познакомится с мего играми жанра, вполне можно поиграть. Если же уже читали Фейт, или проходили великолепную тактическую(с визуальной новеллой) Battle Moon Wars, этот продукт почти наверняка ничем не зацепит.
А я играю по старой памяти, проверку временем игра прошла. Как была середняком, так и осталась.
А вот 100% ачивок бить принципиально не буду)
ЗЫ. А ещё тут перекос эффективности сильно в сторону женских персонажей сделан. Лучший снайпер, баба, пистолетчица за счет жирных хп может исполнять роль танка, лучшая хилка тоже деваха....
Все парни в итоге(кроме мб демьена и швальца если гг не танк) нужны для прокачки пары статов фактически, и полезны исключительно на вспомогательных ролях. Ну и снайпер через квесты доступ к хорошему оружию и броньке дает.
Старая добрая Planet strighold. На мой взгляд, не смотря на возраст, одна из лучших игр Winter Wolves. Вполне годный вариант гибрида визуалки с рпг с вполне вменяемым сюжетом и стандартной боевкой старых рпг. Здесь вполне адекватные и живые персонажи. Есть возможность прокачивать персонажам не боевые умения и использовать их для прохождения заданий или событий на карте секторов. Вообще, если описывать эту игру коротко, то можно сказать, что это хороший представитель старых рпг с историей, подаваемой в стиле визульной новеллы. Не лучший представитель, но на хорошую твердую 4. Надо отметить, что игра действительно достаточно старая - даже в стиме ей 10 лет, а на деле еще больше. Не то, чтобы на это стоило делать скидку, просто это нужно принимать во внимание. Некоторые пишут про лаги в игре и прочие проблемы. Я сам проходил игру еще на старом компе с видюхой NVIDIA GEForce 240 и никаких проблем у меня тогда не было. Возможно, проблемы как раз в игре на современных машинах, как и у многих старых стимовских игр . Многих напрягают механики игры типа передачи предметов. Когда надо сначала перекинуть предмет от персонажа в общий инвентарь, оттуда другому персонажу и только тогда его можно экипировать. На самом деле это стандартные механики игр тех лет. Это тоже надо понимать.
Как итог игру рекомендую. Но, если вас напрягают стандартные механики старых рпг или если вам лень читать и хоть немного разобраться с навыками и механиками, а хочется просто потыкать пару кнопок после работы, лучше пройти мимо)
Planet Stronghold is very ambitious in what it tries to do, and it has some clever ideas. Unfortunately it isn't executed terribly well. Characters are pretty shallow with not much development, for the most part. The worst offense is how imbalanced combat is. It seems that it is intended to use certain weapons in "aimed" mode for higher crits/accuracy, and others in "regular" for balance, and a tank character should do "burst" (no crit & miss more) once in a while to gain aggro. In practice it didn't work out too well for me, but I do really like the idea. Psionic skills are important to winning some battles and they miss way too much. There aren't enough levels to gain by the end in order to train up many skills, and some skills just aren't useful. I do like the idea of using skills outside of combat to solve problems. I like the worldbuilding, art, and music. I am leaving a positive review because I was able to overlook the weaker bits and appreciate the parts I did like. I enjoyed it enough to still want the sequel. My advice is to focus on the story and overlook the combat.
After several hours it's clear that all classes except for scout, using burst sniper rifles, are useless except in fringe cases. The psionics system is absolutely silly, as your abilities have hard-coded hit chances and aren't affected by accuracy or points in Pisonics. Basically, you need to nuke a thing? Great, suffer a 65% chance to deal X damage, while using a third of your psionic points! Failed? Great, just spam mana potions or defend for 3 turns and try again!
The characters provided, soldiers and guardians, are absolute trash that have stormtrooper levels of accuracy and are generally useless. A blind soldier is also provided, with psionics ability. What? Why? It's not a soldier, it's a psionic... but her psionic skills are all terribly low. What? The two scouts provided are your damage dealers (unless you picked scout yourself and dumped a bunch of points into accuracy and sniper weapons, and chose the ones with at least 2 attacks, so you can burst for 3 each round).
Wow. Terrible game balance folks. Game uninstalled and hidden from my account. That's how bad the "RPG" mechanics are.
It's been a long time since I've seen this game again since I was addicted to this game on my iPhone and still am addicted since I can now play on pc which I believe is better than on my phone since the app did have trouble registering my taps. Still, highly recommend this game... and it's sequel (which I didn't know about.)

Planet Stronghold was an enjoyable 10hr Winter Wolves RPG. If you're familiar with Loren and Queen of Thieves this one will feel right at home. I enjoy the exploration interface and the "classic" RPG elements of turn-based battles that take a little thought and tactical approach. The dialog isn't anything to write home about and the story isn't anything special but it's definitely a fun 10 hours of gameplay. All-in-all, I'd recommend this one to anyone who has played Loren and is looking for more from the developer. If you can get it on sale then more's the better. Of all this developers RPGs I highly recommend Loren and I hear very good things about Planet Stronghold 2 which just released this year. I'm excited to check that one out next. Support this indie dev!!!!
I tried to play this game because I like other games of the developer and I thought it to be good to play part 1 before doing part 2. But I stopped at the point where the game wanted me to go into the inventory to form a party of two heroes... but there was no interface to go into the inventory at that point.
Before I already was needed to kill three super robots .. which I couldnt, even on easy mode. Then I opted into the Visual Novel Beta and got rid of the often very boring battles.
So in conclusion - I thinks it's just for hardcore fans oder retrogame lovers with a lot of patience.

Arts are not perfect but you get used to it easyly, the worst part is the equip, it takes a long time to understand red means better equipement, not green... O_o ?
This game is pretty amazing. Despite the Hardships of some of the Bosses overall it was a good experiance. The story however is the best thing about this game. I like it a lot the amount of work put into this game. I also love Rumi she is the Official Waifu while Damien is the best guy to go for in my opinion. Cliff is also a wonderful option i love the dialogue however i wish Lisa could romance him as well.

Ok,,
I started out fairly happy until the Rebels,, their attacks pissed me off..
But I carried on,, Apart from those rebels I was ok with the game though I was concerned at the hp levels of some,, and at times my own.
But Then I hit the personal quests,,, recover the gun bits,, Robots pissed me off as it kept repairing it's self and the others..,, So I reloaded Loaded up on Health and got it done.. Then came the Destroy the test lab,, Now I had loaded us both up with health..BUT,, you cant kill something if all your doing is using the 5 revives and a ♥♥♥♥ load of health...
Obvious we failed. It kept healing and knocking a 3rd of your health..
Until this,, I had enjoyed it,,It was tried on easy to,, but It pissed me off..
I may have been there early at level 6 I dont know..
I may,, when calmer,, go back before they hit 90 favour and wait till I am higher.
IF it is the case then I will change this as it would have been my fault..
A good game, old but good, sci-fi/VN/RPG it is a good comp, give it a try is all I can say.
I really like Winter Wolves games, but this one is just a pile of bugs. I played this game for 3 hours and ended up having this:
- my enemies visually disappear during battle phase;
- at some point my hero just disappeared from every next battle;
- all battle skills started showing me the same description regardless of their type and level;
- scrolling back scenes, changing heroes or loading previous saves never changes your success chances in lucky rolls after failure;
- in the scrap metal shop every click I made saved the game, which made the game start freezing terribly;
- maybe this isn't a bug at all, but when I started new game some characters' skills that were primary have become secondary.
But, if you are thick-skinned enough to bear it, then beautiful characters and a nice visual style are waiting for you.
good game play on hard
This game is very interesting. It's an RPG/visual novel hybrid, like Loren or Cursed Lands. It's in the same universe as Planer Stronghold: Colonial Defense, but I think I liked PS more than PS:CD as the latter had cringey dialogues in my opinion.
This game is very hard even on easy mode. I would recommend saving the game before each battle as if you lose, it's game over. I did enjoy it though and I believe that fans of similar games are going to have a lot of fun with this one.
Not sure why this doesn't get talked about more. I haven't played tons but it's really fun and cute so far. I like that it seems to be letting me go for a romance with my (female) roommate while playing Lisa, that's so sweet! I don't really know anyone else who plays it, which is a shame. I think this would be fun to play with my friends and discuss it together.
This was surprisingly addictive. I bought it a few days ago and I'm already done with all routes and achievements.
It's basically an RPG (character development, inventory, choices, skill checks!), it has all the cool romances (3 for male, 3 for female, each having a gay-only option); the fights are turn based. If you play on easy, fights can almost be ignored, but on higher difficulties you actually have to use your skills and items.
I really enjoyed it.

As Narrative games go, Planet Stronghold is difficult without being crushing, and has a lot of interesting choices and gameplay.
I've played better ACTUAL H-games.
Played the first 3 chapters and I guess this game is...fine. It's an RPG where your characters build and maintain relationships with each other and your dialogue choices matter in terms of how those relationships turn out. Which is a really cool concept - that has been done far better elsewhere.
In Planet Stronghold I found myself rushing through shallow dialogue despite the fact that my choices mattered only to discover that what awaited me on the other side of shallow dialogue was shallow combat.
It's a simple, turn based, RPG with graphics that are just okay, writing that is just okay, and combat that gets very repetitive very quickly. I love this genre but this particular title just wasn't very satisfying.
If none of the above turns you off, you might well enjoy this game. Like I said, it's fine. Fine just isn't good enough for me these days.
I am only writing a review of this game because I am very angry right now with it. I was playing this game for several hours (even staying up late playing it), and saving my progress as I went, and then suddenly i was saving after a big fight and it closed on me, downloaded updates, and deleted all of my save games! There is no way I am replaying it, especially not without a guarantee that will happen again. I am really angry and feel like my time was completed wasted.
I bought this game after playing Loren the Amazon princess. Many of the criticisms on this store page are justified. The writing, as in Loren, and many other indie rpgs is ok at best. The fighting system is "ok," though I don't think its any worse than the one is Loren. You have an open rpg system more like Fallout in this game, while Loren has skill trees. The noncombat skills let you avoid combat and still complete quests, so I thought that was quite nice, even if there are fewer active combat skills. I'd say you have enough combat options as it is with a variety of weapons you can get and each character having 3 attack and 8 psionic options.
Like Loren, Planet Stronghold's cast of characters and romances aren't particularly memorable. The one area where Loren really outshines Stronghold, is that the Amazon princess herself is a very well defined and memorable character, and the conflicts within Amazon society are well drawn in her person. Planet Stronghold lacks such a figure.
What Planet Stronghold does have which is almost totally lacking in Loren is much better exploration. Most areas of the map have quadrents which you can explore, with optional combat, and a few interesting optional encounters.
What I also like about Planet:Stronghold is the science fiction setting and gameplay, since there are far fewer SF rpgs than fantasy ones.
If you've played any other Winterwolf rpgs and like then, I think you might like Planet: Stronghold. If you haven't, don't expect a great game. Still its an entertaining, light 10 hour game, which is over before you can get really bored with the mechanics. Its a mixture of a visual novel and an rpg, and it takes modern Bioware games as its role model, with its focus on companions, romance, and story, while still maintaining a fare number of rpg mechanics, albeit with a fraction of the budget.
I'm giving the game a thumbs up, though I'd probably give it an "ok." if that were an option.
I've never bought a Winter Wolves game at full price for good reason. I just don't seen to find it to be worth it. In my opinion, the only really good part about this game is how the female main character and main companions look. The story is weird and not to my liking as well as the combat. I haven't finished the game yet, but I find myself skipping a lot of the reading just to get to the choices. I know this is fiction, but a rookie becoming a leader in just an instant? Come on, now. Compae to other Winter Wolves game I have played, this seems to be the worst kind of combat. Despite having multiple weapons/attacks, the choices that you are given seem very limited. Seems as though the combat system is either an extra attack, regular attack, or one less attack. It becomes very boring, despite physic abilities added. I spent about $3 for this game by buying it on another website. While I am disappointed with this game, I will continue playing it for romance purposes only.
Quite interesting story on top of mediocre fighting mechanics, I'd say it's somewhat enjoyable.

-The story is pretty poor. It's basically "John Carter the VN". If you're really into that, maybe this is for you, but I was expecting something much different. I found myself skimming most of the story.
-There are a lot of characters and none of them have that much time to shine, or at least, early on. Still playing.
-Even on Medium difficulty, the fighting is long and grindy.
+The combat, even on Medium, is sort of challenging, at least.
+There are a lot of skills to improve and become proficient in.
-All of the non-combat skills can just be save-scummed and are thus almost entirely pointless. There's very little incentive to not min/max either (why would you improve your sniper rifle skill when your heavy weapons skill is already max'd out?)
-Itemization is pretty weak - you ocassionally get item upgrades but it's all randomized with little strategy to finding the best stuff to equip.
Overall, I'd say the game is mediocre as a VN and mediocre as a RPG. It's passable/playable and I'll probably finish it, but it's only worth it if you can pick this up super on sale.
This is one of the first visual novels I've ever played and I remember loving it. Don't pay attention to my time in game or achievements, as I've completed "Planet Stronghold" few times before it was even on Steam. Recently though, I've decided to go back and experience it once again, since I plan to buy "Planet Stronghold: Colonial Defense" and I wanted to remind myself a bit about the lore and check how the game is holding up.
Well, I was surprised to find it doesn't hold up very well.
Let's start by saying that "Planet Stronghold" is an RPG/Visual Novel hybrid (similar, in that aspect, to Loren: The Amazon Princess from the same developer - great game). It's early Winter Wolves game, so some issues are obvious, although still needs to be pointed out.
First of all - [b]game is laggy[/b]. I'm not even sure how that's possible, since it seems like such a small game and my PC surpass the requirements. And it's not even during fights - game tends to lag during looking through inventory or going around the map, which really shouldn't happen.
[b]UI is terrible[/b]. Do you want to change character's weapon? Well, first you need to put it out from the main character inventory (as usually every item that you got ends up there), but to do that, you need to go to the armory, and then you need to transfer the item to the other character and then open this characters inventory and then equip it. There is at least three more steps than necessary and that's annoying.
[b]Writing is bad.[/b] It really is. The nice thing is that you have two routes available from very early in the game - you can support prince and try to make peace with alien races or support king and fight them. Sadly, it's very obvious what is the "right moral choice", so if you chose king, for most time you feel like you are fighting for the bad guys. There isn't nearly enough build up to make "your own" decision - you kind of hear that king is a genocidal maniac, but you don't spend enough time around any group of aliens to see if there is any justification to his action. There is also a lot of plot holes and questionable decisions, that I will mention later. Dialogues are simply bad.
[b]Main Character. [/b]You play as Joshua or Lisa Nelson. You may chose your gender, which is neat and that changes some aspects of the story. That being said, both of the MC are quite annoying to play as. Joshua is almost drooling on any woman sight (which is weird, because you have neat homosexual option within the game, so you would assume that writers will get you more freedom in terms of shaping this character, that just giving it an instant and rather stereotypical "straight guy" attitude) and Lisa is treated by one of her teammates in a way that just begs for "punch this douchebag" option. It's also worth mentioning, that the game starts with us coming to some military base as a recruits and shortly after, we start commanding the troops. And the reason is... Well... I guess we did good in some fight? And we have a surname that one of legendary war heroes had? And king want us to lead because of... reasons? As you can see, it just feels very unrealistic.
[b]Characters.[/b] Most of characters are very stereotypical, they lack depth. You can see that writer tried to do something interesting with them, as each of character has some sort of backstory and special mission, but because of bad writing, it just feels flat and uninteresting. Also, justification for "let's go alone on this mission and not bother any of our crew members" is silly. For example, Rumi wants you to go with her to special facility that may be heavily guarded, but that's so "personal" to her, that you can't take any other team members. It's just dumb, not to mention that her mission seem very similar to Jack's loyalty quest from Mass Effect.
[b]Romance.[/b] Your gender determines your romance options. Each MC has three available romance partners and one of them is same gender option. Sadly, as in many Winter Wolves games, romance is very rushed and out of place. I really like Joshua x Cliff story line, but I may be biased towards same-sex romances. At the same time though, I though Lisa x Michelle wasn't interesting at all, so I'm not sure that's it. Damien is an intriguing option, but he doesn't get nearly enough in-game time to make him a compelling character and Tom starts nicely and then just acts in a childlish manner. That's the reason why I felt like there isn't a good romance partner for female MC.
[b]Skills. [/b]That's the part of the game I actually enjoy. "Planet Stronghold" offers you an option of solving conflicts/gather data/finishing quests/obtaining new items not by fighting, but by using certain skills. You can choose any of your teammembers and let him/her do the job. You always see the how high chance of success they will have and if they fail, you can simply reload the game and try again.
[b]Fights.[/b] I usually don't have much to say about fighting mechanism, it isn't any different here. There are a lot of enemies, with strong and weak points, and different squads require different kind of strategy. That being said, fights aren't very captivating and often feel unfair.
It breaks my heart to give this game a negative review. I actually wanted to do the opposite, when I started writing this , but when I see all the things I've mentioned above, I know it would be very hard to justify it in any way. "Planet Stronghold" is a very sentimental game for me, but it's far from being good, especially in comparison to other, similar titles.
This first installment is so much better than Colonial Defence. (I have no clue what Winter Wolves was doing with Colonial Defence)

Solid visual novel with a sci-fi storyline. I enjoyed the "prequel" game (which actually came out first) a bit more, but this installment is quite enjoyable and worth a play-through if you like visual novel-style games with some turn-based combat elements.
This is the kind of game you play if you need to pass 6-7 hours if you are bored some day, its not good or bad, its "okay". Get it on sale because the "high replayability" is pretty much just a different ending, all the rest is the same "meh" combat.
I had long wanted to play this game, as well as Winter Wolves' Loren The Amazon Princess, mostly because I was curious as to how well an RPG made in a visual novel engine would work. Now that I've finished this game once, I can say that its value lies mostly in being a curiosity, an example of what is possible in Ren'Py.
Unfortunately, whether I look at it as a visual novel with RPG combat or as an RPG with visual novel storytelling, as a game Planet Stronghold falls short.
The RPG part alternates between dull and irritating. The battles themselves fall into predictable patterns. I've seen the threat mechanic before in other indie RPGs, so it wasn't particularly impressive to me.
Evaluating equipment is a hassle at first because the specs of the weapons and armor are presented in a horizontal line, which makes the numbers more difficult to decipher. And comparing equipment is even more unintuitive because the UI uses green or red numbers to indicate whether the specs of the item you currently have are better or worse than the new item you're considering--the exact opposite of what RPG interfaces normally use such numbers for.
In my playthrough, armor appeared frequently as a quest reward, which seemed like a great idea until I realized that I hadn't been spending skill points on armor for many of my party members, and a lot of these pieces demanded high skill levels. My fault for not anticipating, I admit, but I would have liked different grades of armor for different classes so that these quest rewards wouldn't feel so useless.
As for the visual novel part, the student-level writing fails to carry the contrivance-laden and flimsy plot. I wish I had a nickel every time someone expressed surprise or anger with "What?!" or stammered in discomfort, or declared success with "We made it!" The characters experience little development. The romance path I tried didn't seem like a natural progression of affection and chemistry between two people; it was just kind of there all of a sudden, and right after the big kiss scene, it was gone even more abruptly.
In the end, this game was a disappointment. I would have happily tolerated the middling RPG experience if the visual novel writing and choices had been compelling. As it stands, Planet Stronghold is worth playing only as something to learn from. I'm looking forward to playing Loren The Amazon Princess to see how it improves on the RPG-VN formula.
A choice-laden narrative and attractive soundtrack are minor positives for a game let down by an immature story, horrible dialogue, and boring, badly implemented / balanced combat. Avoid unless frustration is your preferred form of masochism.
First the choices. There are a lot of choices, and they do branch convincingly: if you wanted to romance a certain character and screw it up, there's no way to charm yourself back into their good graces. Find a save, and re-load. The choices aren't just about romancing: every single member of your party has dialogues and side missions that will unlock if you talk to them enough and make the right dialog choices. Even faction alliances are contained within mutually exclusive dialog choices. Full marks for a branching narrative.
The choices and consequences are real enough, but don't buy Planet Stronghold expecting mature levels of writing. The story verges on the ridiculous – a recruit with all of 2 days of experience is put in charge of an army. I'm all for playing pretend and enjoying impossible accomplishments, but come on. It's not like in Dragon Age Origins, for instance, where Alistair cedes command of the party to you; that was explained within the story as part of the character arc. Here, you get a command because the prince you've known for a few hours suddenly “trusts you.” Some of the dialogue is worse than what you would find in a B-movie. And there's no voice-acting to make the lines sound better than they are. They're just there, and if you as a player can't commit to the characters and the story, you'll be absolutely p*ssed about how the dialogue sounds in your head.
You'll see other reviews proclaiming the challenging combat as a great addition to a story-driven game. Yeah, no. Combat is awful. It takes the relaxing visual-novel experience and forces story progression through hours of meaningless and boring combat. Fire guns, use Psionics to buff the hero and his team, let the bad guys fire back, repeat until the enemies fall. When weapons are dealing 5 points of damage per shot (even after de-buffing the target), and an enemy has 350 points of health, that's a lot of sitting still and clicking, waiting for the fight to be over.
What makes matters worse is that the combat itself is badly balanced (if the word balanced can even be used here). Here's an example. If my character has an 80% accuracy rating, there is no way (mathematically) he should miss 3 shots out of every 5. At most, he should miss 1 out of 5, or 2 out of 10, or 3 out of 15. But when his burst of fire is 7 shots, and he misses 5 of them, something is badly wrong. “You need to level your Accuracy skill and take into account the enemy's Evade skill” (I did) “and don't use the Burst setting!” (I didn't). I even reduced the difficulty to Easy to see if it would make a difference. It doesn't. The only conclusion I can draw is that the results of the turn-based combat are entirely random. Not a good thing to hang onto your choice-laden visual novel. Not saying the IDEA of having turn-based combat in a visual novel is bad – it isn't – but don't make it randomized, then boast your game is “challenging.”
I generally start a game wanting to like it. Planet Stronghold was no different. After 20 hours and multiple attempts at progressing, I'm giving up and am off to play something else.
ob man das spiel mag oder nicht, hängt wohl von der sichtweise ab. für fans der visual novels des entwicklers ist es sicher nicht die perfekte wahl. zwar ist die von bioware's last-gen games inspirierte story nicht schlecht geschrieben, dennoch ist sie für winterwolfes überraschend seicht. abseits der hauptgeschichte gibt es wenig zu entdecken und erschreckend wenige gespräche mit der crew. was mir aber gefällt, sind die dialogoptionen, die um einiges besser gemacht sind, wie in loren oder heileen. man wählt zwischen 2 und fünf optionen aus und alle haben ihre kleinen oder großen auswirkungen auf das spiel, was wiederum von gewonnen sympathiepunkten bis hin zum story-bruch reicht.
was eben fehlt, sind die spannenden hintergründe der charaktere, wie sie in loren gegeben waren (obwohl auch hier die charaktere meist ein bisschen abgekupfert waren). so kommt einfach keine emotionale bindung zustande, was mmn in so einem spiel eine klare schwäche ist.
das früher in dem amazonenspiel mmn katastrophale kampfsystem wurde zum glück nicht übernommen. bei planet stronghold ist es klar von klassischen j-rpg's beeinflusst und gibt sich eigentlich bis auf die animationsarmut keine blöße.
trotz wenig tiefgang kann ich das spiel aber durchaus weiterempfehlen.

Do not expect the features of big RPG games like wasteland etc. so it is for sure not the game for everybody, but it is still a nice game to play, has a good story inclusive some surprising twists, love and intrigue. Definetly worth to have a second look...

I can see why a lot of people arent too into the game, some of the lines are meh. But I've been having a pretty good time with it myself, might be worth if you can get past some dumb dialogue or even replace it yourself somewhat in your head.
Overall not a bad game , if you can endure its clumsy UI. It's an RPG mixed with visual novel settled in the future. You lead your teammates fighting with various enemies. Also there are two major different endings can draw you to play again. But some skills/equipment are imbalance. The fighting is ok , turn-based fight with magic. In conclusion , worth trying in a bundle or big discount.
Art gameplay and story are all solid.There are a good number of branches/romances in the story.

Not a completely bad game, but not a visual novel diamond. Several romance options even a gay and lesbian option. Story isn't very interesting. The enemies have no personality and arent interesting. Supporting characters have their own stories that are very short and are a way for you to get some new armor or weapon. Battles are interesting the first time but quickly get repetitive and you will be clicking your mouse a lot to get faster through them (set all weapons to burst unless you miss a lot). Also its hard to navigate the menu because you can't access every menu from any point of the game. To access quests or skills overview you need to be in dialog window. Can't access it from the planet (world) map. I'm saying that cause you sometimes need to know who has the most points in a certain skill. Anyway, not a completely bad game, but you will want to play it only if you are a visual novel lover. Even then you will want to rush through it on the easiest setting.
The game just isn´t fun. I´ve played Loren and liked it a lot and was curious about the sci fi rpg from the same developer, but this game didn´t catch my imagination.

Ich habe mir "Planet Stronghold" gekauft, nachdem ich "Loren; The Amazon Princess" gespielt hatte, was mir sehr gut gefiel und ich ein Spiel ähnlicher Machart in anderem Setting erwartete.
Dies traf im Großen und Ganzen zu, das Ausrüstungssystem ist sogar bei weitem ausgefeilter, dennoch hat "Planet Stronghold" auch im Vergleich zu anderen Spielen des Machers an einigen Stellen eher geschwächelt, ohne dabei jedoch jemals völlig zu enttäuschen.
Die Geschichte ist nichts wirklich besonderes, langweilt jedoch auch nicht. Die Erforschungs-Elemente hätte ich persönlich nicht unbedingt gebraucht und auch die Anzahl des "Lore-Skills" erschien mir etwas überzogen.
Die Charaktere sind eher bekannte Arche-Typen, die selten darüber hinauswachsen, dabei jedoch immer noch solide präsentiert wirken.
Insgesamt hat das Spielen immer noch Spaß gemacht, wobei ich bezweifle, es noch einmal spielen zu werden; seinen Kaufpreis ist es aber dennoch wert, wenn man sich auf eher leselastige Spiele einlassen kann.

Es ist schwer für diesen Spiel klar den Daumen zu heben oder zu senken.
Die Story und Charaktere wären für ein schönes Strategiespiel gut, aber leider ist es ja kein schönes Strategiespiel.
Es ist auch keine Visual Novel, sondern ein veraltetes RGP mit [i]Old School[/i]-RPG-Kämpfen, wo man seine Einheiten weder bewegt noch taktisch aufstellt. Man wählt in jeder Runde für jedes seiner Partymitglieder eine Aktion und ein Ziel für diese Aktion aus.
Schon beim ersten Final Fantasy machte das aber wesentlich mehr Spass.
Im Verlaufe des Spiels kommen einem diese Kämpfe immer zäher vor. Man kann auch in den Kämpfen speichern und ist später gezwungen davon Gebrauch zu machen.
Die Inventarverwaltung ist einfach nur grottenschlecht.
Ich habe es auf [i]Normal[/i] durchgespielt und werde es aber nie mehr anfassen, deshalb senkt sich der Daumen nach unten.
Die Demo zu dem Spiel gibt es leider nicht auf Steam, sondern nur auf der Webseite von Winter Wolves.

Mixed feelings here. A lot of work went into this game: perks, gear, dialogue tree are well developed. Characters' graphics are terrific even if a little manga-style. Game mechanics work well, the only black spot being you can't verify your team's stats when you need it.
Sadly the RPG side is lacking, here it boils down to Romance-Playing Game. Dialogues are too long and poorly written, most answers start by "Yes but ..." and are too predictable. Combat becomes quickly repetitive : put all your team in "burst" then after one or two turns, two characters continue shooting and the other two heal them.
It was mildly enjoyable to play at the beginning, but I don't think I'll ever finish it. So much for the achievements, 8 out of 10 are romance based.

Returning to the topic of Planet stronghold - mass effect is not - What stands novelak as well as RPG is the plot and characters, here they are weak, and the story could handle in a budget production for a phone for a few zlotys and not for 20 American onions. The rpg system itself does not kick ass and is a carbon copy of what the studio has already used in other productions .Terrible misery - only worth buying in a bundle for a few cents because it has nice images on the cards.

as far as the rpg system its more of a phantasy star 2 interface, so expect to be dissatisfied with some stuff as when you went from phantasy star 1 to play 2. as far as graphics go but it is beta and the additions later on look great so expect the patches to turn it into phantasy star 4 but with friendship system,
and the system is fun but slow because of all the friendship system and dating sim ♥♥♥♥, phantasy star (classic) is generally a dungeon crawler meets traditional rpg, which is great and all ,the point of this game is great.
and im sure the story is great and if you like those japanese friendship games im sure youll like it but that is not for me.

The humor and the way people talk and act and look is really perverse, and not in a way that the game sucks but in an actual perverse way.
This game it's not worth the 18,99€ it costs. It's not even worth half that price. The story is bland, the combat gameplay is bland and the interface is very uninviting and unappealing. Surely, lots of effort were put into the game, but it doesn't hold up well. The fourth wall is broken too many times and it breaks any kind of immersion. The characters and kinda cringy and the art is average, as well as the soundtrack. Personally, I would not recommend it, but RPG fans should check it out.
I don't know how the sequel is, but on it's own this game is boring. The combat's uninteresting, the romance feel like the developers forced it in, and the story's too simple. Fairly early on you have to decide whether to support a revolution or follow the current emperor (not a spoiler since there are achievements for each choice). I thought this was a morally gray choice where both would have negative consequences, but it turns out the only downside to supporting the revolt is peace among the various alien races (how horrible!) and a slightly ominous ending.
If you want a sci-fi rpg look pretty much anywhere else, if you want a visual novel get World End Economica, if you want romance play Katawa Shojo or Analouge: A Hate Story, and if you just want a good story get To The Moon.
Standard Role Playing Game with a bit of Visual Novel thrown into the mix.
This is probably the most difficult negative review I've had to write so far, but there are just enough large (but not game-breaking flaws) to overlook.
(--) The level up/skill-point system is broken. Basically, they fall into 3 categories: combat skills, non-combat skills, and psionic (magic) skills. Most of the combat skills are divided into weapon skills, of which you should only put levels into one of them, which is based on your class selection. Every 20 points in a weapon skill, it raises damage with that weapon type by 1 per shot. This means that weapons that get 4 shots in one round get 4x more improvement than weapons with 1 shot - this is silly. The other combat skills: armor, accuracy, and evasion actually all do work alright, and are tempting to level even when they're not a class specific skill. Leveling individual psionics skills is absolutely broken, however. There is a singular root psionics skill which improves ALL the subskills in such a way that leveling individual skills is completely pointless. The non-combat skills are 'okay'. All they do is influence the RNG in various plot events that occur throughout the story, and a few give some mild combat perks.
(-) Psionics is not a very well balanced skill set. The one class that is dedicated to the use of it, it works pretty well, and a majority of the spells will see some use from it. Unfortunately, the 3 other classes in the game, while they're meant to have varying aptitudes with psionics, they're effectively bad enough with it that just attacking is the right answer.
(-) The inventory/equipment UI could be a lot better. It's a non-trivial matter (when it ought to be) of comparing the values of weapons.
(-) The characters are pretty shallow, although I'm mostly giving this one a pass due to the nature of the game.
(+/-) There isn't just attacking. There's 3 different attack types which have varying levels of shots fired per round, hit %, crit chance, and aggro drawn. The first 3 of those parameters are pretty boring - with some time spent with calculations, you can find out which attack type gives you the most damage for the weapon you're using. However, the level of aggro drawn is an interesting mechanic that I'll cover later.
(+/-) Lots of RNG. Can lead to some frustration, can also lead to some exciting down to the line fights.
(+) While it's nothing too special, I did like the flow of the plot and the setting. Based on other users' negative reviews, I guess your mileage may very significantly here.
(+) Games often have to sacrifice in order to provide a gamepath that isn't on tracks.
(++) Aggro management. Different actions will raise the probability that the enemy will target that particular character on their turn (and thus lower the probability of attacking the other 3 characters). This mechanic right here is significantly responsible for tactical decisions, and despite all the other flaws of the game, actually leaves combat kinda fun. It's an intricate balance between shaping as much aggro on your characters with the best resistances to the enemy attacks, but also still spreading enough damage to other characters, since even your characters with the best resistances can get overwhelmed by 2 consecutive rounds of the enemy focusing on him. Enemy will have enough mana to use an ability that will block a character from using normal attacks for a couple turns? Better ramp up the aggro on your Psionic.
In summary, I believe a broken leveling system (and its subsequent damage on the magic system) has wrecked an otherwise mediocre title that would earn a $10-15 pricetag.

Pretty good game, though a bit short. Decent story, but a fun tactical combat system, interesting loot, and rewards for investing in out of combat skills.
That said, it gets trivially easy by the end of the game. I only got hit once in the entire final boss fight.
Addictive game, multiple routes, able to back track. Great story, interesting development. Still wish Lafleur was bi. Nonetheless wonderful game, you buy it, you'll be playing it for a bit. Feels great for a Vn with Rpg aspects similiar to science girls, sunrider, and a few other VNs and Rpgs you've seen here. This piece of work goes in quite the depth similiar to Loren the Amazon Princess. Still very great. Rating 9/10. Reason is I just kind of hate the inventory gui. It sets the new guys who haven't played something like this off, no sorting order, has to be manual, also comparison are confusing if they don't know how to identify them. Can't tell you how many times I was looking at a weapon to double check it's stats and my armor too. I didn't want to die out there. Still great game, highly replayable for a few reasons.
The music is quite good. The art is good enough. That's all.
The story is not bad by itself. But the writing is terrible for a visual novel. Careless, full of inconsistencies, too conceited on the player. Absolutely below average. And I'm a sucker for visual novels.
The RPG part is a bit dull. The normal difficulty is adjusted to force you into grind every map, and can get a bit over the line sometimes. With the DLC you get an enormeus variety of weapons with random names, making them even harder to compare and choose. Being most of them not better than the ones you get through history, they mostly add clutter.
In the end, I can not recommend the game. There are plethora of other VN much better than this one, and many are free. I also find the RPG part too weak, too, or at least not satisfying enough to justify a recommendation.
You may have seen the "hours played" counter and think it is too low. I got the game in a bundle and played the DRM version. Seeing the game has trading cards I may try to get the alternate arc and romance option I didn't care about the first time I played.
10/10 Would get steam cards again.
Quite an enjoyable RPG with a good mix of story, party and skill management, and exploration. If you like the look of the screenshots, I think you will like this game.

-Save anywhere makes it all too easy to avoid any negative outcomes for choices

-Combat/non-psionic classes don't have their own special skills
This game is not great but if you like winterwolves stuff, also there is a second game comming out and that actually looks great at the moment so I would pick this up on the first best sale.

For me, the battle system in a style somewhat reminiscent of old GBA Pokemon games. The romance sub-plots are reasonably engaging, though they could certainly have added more interaction post the romance scene.
I always play the female character in RPGs and take the yuri/lesbian relationship option(s) if available; character development isn't lacking, but I'd prefer it to be better fleshed out.
Hope to see this, and the return of the characters (esp. Michelle, Lisa's love~) in the sequel, if there's one in the works.
I picked up this game after playing "Loren-The Amazon Princess," which is by the same company. I liked "Loren" a lot (except there was a ton of purple prose when it came to the in-game romances and a few of the romances felt creepy/abusive) for the mixture of story and very oldschool game mechanics.
The difference between "Loren" and "Planet Stronghold" is pretty much they emphasized different things. "Loren" developed the relationships and romances to a huge degree - the romances didn't just happen, the player had to seek them out, but had minimal game mechanics.... "Planet Stronghold" has minimal romances and an implausible story (put the cadet in charge of a war because he has a familiar last name?) and really good (though oldschool) game mechanics.
The aggro system in "Planet Stronghold" is AWESOME. You can instantly tell which one of your group is pissing off the mobs the most by glancing down at their meter, and comparing it to the other group members. Best system for aggro control I've ever played, in any game.
This is a solid game to play if you're bored and if it's on sale. I did almost 19 hours on it.
To be fair, I haven't been playing a lot of the story. This did take a lot of time though.
The story seems to be OK, but filled with a bit too many stock plot "twists" to be really interesting. For a cheapish game, I can live with it. Dialogs are simple and rather... dull. You are presented with a block of text, follwed by another block of text and so on. Once the talking is done, you're presented with a few options (which you can repeat untill you hit the magic "stop talking" button). So far, I've found very few real dialog options.
Dialog does affect relationships from time to time, but just like too many other "RPGs" you often have no idea what the effects will be; when allowing my party to drink while gathering information, my relations with the super soldier party's alcohols is reduced.
The combat is typical for it's genre -- your party goes in order and get a few options to attack the enemy. The enemy then goes in order in the same style, untill either side is defeated. XP appears to rewarded on a kill basis -- when a party member finishes an enemy that person gets all the XP from the enemy.
Combat difficulty appears to scale much faster than your characters do. So far, I've gotten 1 level on my main character (by manageing damage so he could get more kills). In the meantime the enemies have gone from doing about 5 damage per attack to about 20 damage per attack and hit points have gone from 40ish to 300ish.
If you want to have level your main character fast, go for scout -- accuracy is the most important thing when dealing damage and scouts, at equal skill level, will be significantly better at hitting enemies, while doing roughly equal damage (that is, more damage) than soldiers or guardians.
On top of the poor combat and the bad writing, the game's performance is appauling. On a 2.8 GHz CPU the UI is sluggish, animations choppy and picking dialog options have delays. Combat is equally slow. The only part of the game which does not have extremly bad perfomance is text rendering, which is a big help, since you'll be skipping most of it anyway.
Overall, I cannot recommend this game. The balance of the game is really poor and the story simply doesn't make up for the rubbish combat.

This is a pretty fun game, the gameplay is pretty good as far as JRPG's go, and it had a good story. It's not the greatest game in the world but I defiantly think it's worth it.
Be warned that the first guy you run into shows WAY too much bulge.
I can't say I really enjoyed playing this game. It seemed good at first, but the more I played, the more mind numbing, tedious and boring it became. I thought it was going to be good because it added a social element to a typical RPG. However, this game is nowhere near as good as the likes of Persona or Fire Emblem: Awakening. The social aspect is limited to making simple choices between two options which either impress or irritate the other characters in the game. Additionally, a lot of the choices look as though you're going to irritate the person you're talking to either way, which I personally don't like.
Yet, this isn't the only problem I found with the game. The equipment you have is fairly simple and there are only two ways to obtain more. Recycle your old gear for scrap metal and build new equipment with it or find it on quests. To find new equipment on quests is not efficient as you have several crew members who all need their own equipment and the quests yield nowhere near the amount needed. As for the recycling method, the amount of scrap metal needed is far too great (from my experience).
Finally, I find the combat to be very repetitive. A lot of the enemies are extremely powerful and take a lot of effort to take down. This results in you needing to go through long battles on a regular basis doing the exact same moves and praying luck is in your favour, since you really need a lot of luck in this game. It wouldn't be so bad if there were ways to grind against some weaker enemies, but as of yet, I have not found a single place where I can grind against waves of weaker enemies to train my team up.
All in all, it's not enjoyable for me. Especially since I feel the need to rest to restore my HP/PP at the end of every single battle. It makes me feel cheap for doing so but I know that if I don't, I'll end up dying in the next one. If you do decide to play this game, I have only one bit of advice for you. Save often. The autosave feature is buggy. I know I've lost some good progress just because the autosave deleted my save files out of nowhere.
It's basically an indie Mass Effect, except with turn-based RPG combat instead of a shooter. It definitely lacks polish, but I loved the hours I spent on this game. Fun!
I played Planet Stronghold because, well, I like romantic options in a game, and this one certainly delivered! (I did a Google search on games with same-sex romance options.... yes I know....and this came up) I really enjoy the games produced by this company because they are very unique and well-made. The game play is challenging enough (even on easy) to keep you interested, yet it is never frustrating. You could certainly play through more than once to unlock different options; there are different paths you can take according to decisions you make. I played through the first time with a male, romanced the prince, and protected the aliens. My next play-through will be with a female that romances her commanding officer, sides with the king and queen and eliminates the aliens.
It's fun, cute, romantic, entertaining, and possessed of replay value. Please make more!!!!!!

武器や魔法は攻撃時に威力重視、バランス、命中重視など3段階を選べるので相手によってお好みで！みたいなシステム的工夫もなされている
プレイヤーキャラとNPCキャラ間で好感度が設定されておりMAXにすると恋人関係になれる。会話次第でおっさんからグレネード巻き上げる悪女プレイも可能
でもびっくりしたのはぽっと出なこの星の王子様が脈絡なくホモるところだよ
女主人公にするとレズ関係も楽しめますが赤髪じゃなくて黒髪娘とカップリングしたかったわ…

I have found this game to be very enjoyable. It is like reading a good action/adventure/scifi/fantasy book with a touch of romance. It is like a choose your own adventure story mostly point and click but still very enjoyable. not for those who do not like story based games and are only looking for shootings. Depending on the options you choose it is what you get go back play again with different choise.
Terrible, horrible bundle crap.
Was looking through my humble bundle purchases, found this unredeemed. Turns out it had cards. Free steam wallet funds! 8 hours later, I finish one run through of the game. At 6am. It's a short game, few interactive options, and it was on easy. I have no idea how it took 8 hours.
