На мой скромный взгляд, это именно то, из-за чего Frictional Games смогли поработать над собой и войти в достойную лигу геймдева. Ощущается более плавная физика объектов, учли ненужной боевой системы, локации стали более разнообразные, сюжет выстраивается в более ровное русло, постепенно собирая паззл истории в общую картинку.
Даже при явном вдохновении Лавкрафтом, приятно ощущать иронию и сарказм новых персонажей, которая разбавляет весь этот ужас "неведомого" эдакой черной комедией. И это приятное ощущение пришло не сразу, а спустя годы после прохождения таких игр как [url=store.steampowered.com] Conarium [/url] и [url=store.steampowered.com/app/750130/The_Sinking_City_Remastered/] The Sinking City [/url], где тоже присутствует ужас Лавкрафта, но нет живости в происходящем как это передано в Black Plague.
Overture but without weapons and much scarier
Does some things better than the first game, but this is entirely undermined by the inclusion of a character that speaks to you throughout a large majority of the game. In moments that should be tense you're forced to listen to a spooky version of a borderlands character. If I could give neutral reviews on steam I would, because the bundle with both games is still probably worth it on sale. It's fine enough to kill a couple hours and ties up the plot from the first game. I am leaving a negative review because it left me feeling dissatisfied coming off Overture. I would not recommend buying this game at full price.

Zagadki były bardziej intuicyjne i logiczne, mniej irytujących przeciwników do unikania i rozległych lokacji z milionem pokoi do sprawdzenia w których i tak nic nie ma...
Zdarza się że pójdziesz do lokacji nie po kolei, po czym nic nie ma sensu a przedmioty które znajdujesz nie są ci w tym momencie do niczego potrzebne.
Zakończenie też takie sobie. Ale zważywszy na wiek produkcji, nie ma tragedii.
Podsumowując fajna gierka na kilka godzin ale raczej nic specjalnego.

Not Amnesia, but still a good game. story goes on. You learn more things about things. More cosmic horror elements reveals. There are more characters rather than just poor Red you can interact with. Clarence is a unique one, it should include more in the game. (also game can be longer) 8/10
Better than its predecessor in pretty much every way. The plot, the puzzles and the atmosphere are all great. Only thing is it's pretty short, but it'll fit perfectly for a gloomy dark evening, especially in winter time.
Better than Overture in every possible way, but not in a way that makes it worth playing
Penumbra: Black Plague is a direct follow up to Overture and it resolves most of the issues that game had. There are ZERO combat mechanics in this game, so there is no longer any incentive to try and attack enemies, which is great since that's not what this game is about. The monster design is far more interesting in this game and they are used more effectively. On top of that, the story is more cohesive and far more engaging since you're not just listening to a madman.
On the game mechanics side, I no longer found puzzles that were completely counter intuitive, nor did I run into the game telling me to do the opposite of what I was supposed to. However, while the puzzles are generally much better, they aren't perfect. Several of the puzzles require you to simply find a key item with no direction on where it is. These items can be anywhere and you have large areas you can search in. Hunting for a needle in a haystack isn't interesting game design, or fun puzzles design, it just leads to a lot of wasted hunting for the right object. This likely won't ruin the game, but it does drag it down. On top of that, there was one puzzle in particular that required me to simply smash an item with another physics object. This happens several times, but this is the ONLY time when investigating the object doesn't hint at this as a solution, and it's also the one time where this solution doesn't make intuitive sense. Would you think that you should try and throw a cardboard box at a metal pipe to break it? I sure didn't. Of my 4 hours playing this game, at least 1 of those hours was me simply searching for items to see if I missed something. Puzzles are at their best when you know exactly what you need to do, but figuring out how to accomplish it isn't straight forward. Penumbra likes to hide key elements of a puzzle to make up for the puzzles being a bit too easy to solve otherwise.
The story, while much more interesting than Overture, has a bad ending. Not a dour ending, or a sad ending, it just feels forced and a bit out there. I think the writers likely wrote themselves into a box since the story is somewhat told from a future perspective, but the ending really fails to land.
This isn't a bad game, and nothing about it is inherently broken, but there are far better experiences to be had in this genre and from this company.

Penumbra black plague is good but its not very scary. I think this game is better than the first Penumbra game but the ending was a bit weird.
I'm unsure how I can even rate this game since I was unable to really play it. I did as many suggested and lowered the game graphics quality, turned off shaders and other things, I even got the game to go into windowed mode. But no matter what I did, the screen was just black or when I COULD see things, if I turned my camera at any angle the textures would all suddenly go black again. I've heard a lot of good about the game, but I was unable to experience that.

Gameplay got polished to a point where it became generic. Cheap jumpscares, simplified environments and story; everything I loved about the first game was taken away. Sure, it has more to offer and what offers is not bad, just... generic.
It's devastating how Penumbra 1 is brushed aside, despite this being a direct sequel that starts right as the first game ends. So much so that if you were to play this one on its own you wouldn't be missing much.
Truly a pity, as I was enjoying it's uniqueness.
I feel like one of the more disappointing parts of this game, besides the story, is how the puzzles beg that you do it exactly the way they intended you to. I managed to softlock myself and get out of bounds way more times than I should, solely because I was thinking like it was a Penumbra 1 puzzle, not heavily scripted puzzles.
Awesome follow-up to the first game. It looses its cave atmosphere for something entirely different but it makes up for the mostly missing story in the first part. Great introduction to the Frictional Games universe.

Black Plague это тот самый момент, когда серия пенумбры достигла своего идеала, окончательно превратившись в эталонный психологический хоррор.
Если в первой части у вас еще была призрачная возможность отбиться от врагов киркой, то здесь игра безжалостно отбирает это право, оставляя вас один на один с первобытным страхом и собственной беспомощностью. Это решение пошло проекту на пользу теперь каждая встреча с гротескными зараженными превращается в напряженную игру в прятки, где любая ошибка стоит жизни.
Сюжет становится куда глубже и безумнее, вводя в повествование Кевина вторую личность в голове главного героя, которая издевается, путает мысли и заставляет сомневаться в реальности происходящего.

A rather overlooked classic compared to its younger brother, the Amnesia franchise. The atmosphere is great, the story gives just enough details to keep enticing without giving so much that it ruins the mysteries. Not much else to say, give it a shot
Black Plague rights the wrongs made by its predecessor by focusing more on stealth and removing combat altogether although with a weaker atmosphere and a shorter duration. However, it also makes its own wrongs: While having a bigger variety of puzzles spices things up, it undermines its physics engine that made the previous entry's world more believable, and also introduces some obtuse and confusing puzzles.
If you liked Overture, you'll probably like this one too.
Although just as torturous at times like Overture and very similar, Black Plague is a vastly different game in many ways. Its the same ol story where you get hooked by Frictional Games's ongoing mysterious story and lore and just have to keep playing to finish it even in one sitting. Took me a good 8 hours to get thru this 2nd part just like the first. If you play the first part then you must play the 2nd - its on a level even higher than Overture. You will get stumped many times, but at least there are Artefacts to search for this time around, you just only need to find 10 of them and then a cool little secret mini game on the computer will be playable with a password.
This is the second game by Frictional Games, a studio that made a name for itself for the first-person horror games like Penumbra series, Amnesia series, and SOMA.
This game is a continuation of Penumbra: Overture. The protagonist is done with the mines and is now in a laboratory complex keeping to try to find what happened to his father.
Gameplay-wise it still is mostly an inventory / environment-based adventure game: to proceed to the next area you need to find some items that you use to solve some puzzles, or find and turn on some lever, etc.
There are some situations where there are enemies. Unlike in the previous game, you cannot kill them, so your options are either to use stealth, to run away, or in some cases use the environment to defeat them. In this regard I found the enemies more annoying than in the previous part, because you can't get rid of them, and sneaking around is slow and boring.
The atmosphere (visual, aural) is still nice, consistent with the previoius game.
I do believe that story-wise this game is a step down from Overture. Whereas Overture was very obscure about the unnatural parts of the story, this game tries to tie it all together, and, at least to me, it just seemed like a weird mumbo-jumbo making little sense.
This game is also pretty short, takes only a couple of hours to complete.
If you enjoyed Overture, this one is worth playing. As a standalone, I would recommend Overture more.

Esta trilogía me costó 1€ en las ofertas navideñas, así que no esperaba gran cosa de ella. Y resulta que me equivoqué.
Penumbra logra transmitir muy bien esa sensación de desamparo y soledad sin la necesidad de recurrir a los llamados "jumpscares" o sustos baratos, ni a la violencia desmedida. Es ese sentir de inseguridad lo que te empuja a seguir explorando y avanzar para ver la luz al final del túnel (nunca mejor dicho).
Esta segunda entrega presenta las mismas mecánicas que su antecesor y una ambientación incluso más sombría, en mi opinión. Largos pasillos débilmente iluminados, laboratorios sucios y abandonados...
La trama está mejor desarrollada y tiene mayor profundidad, y muestra un gran deterioro de la salud mental del protagonista. Por otro lado, algunos puzzles me resultaron algo rebuscados y tuve que consultar una guía en un par de ocasiones.
Otra diferencia sustancial es la ausencia de armas: esta vez no tendremos ninguna forma de matar a los enemigos, lo cual te obliga a emplear el sigilo a lo largo de toda la historia. Considerando el género del juego, esta novedad me parece muy acertada. Te hace sentir vulnerable. Tu único aliado es la linterna.
Por todo esto, considero que es el mejor de la saga y muy recomendable a los jugadores de terror psicológico en primera persona.

Ich mag die Atmosphäre des Spiels und das Gameplay. Die Umgebung und die dazugehörige Geschichte ist geheimnisvoll und ich wollte immer wissen, wie es weitergeht. Auch die Rätsel sind gut durchdacht und immer lösbar. Gerne hätte ich das Spiel in deutsch gespielt und der Geschichte noch besser folgen zu können. Ich empfehle das Spiel auf jeden Fall weiter.

A direct continuation and the upgrade to "Overture". The puzzles are lot more interesting, and the level design feels less formulaic. On top of that it solved one of the main issues i had with the first game: enemies can actually spot you now. making them far deadlier, and resource management feels more meaningful.

Первая часть, проба пера, пока только-только раскрывала потенциал и дальнейшее движение разработчиков, всё то, что было в первой части они решили пересмотреть несколько раз и выдать во второй игре с вырисованной картиной, по которой игра ощущается бодрее, чем её сородич.
Пропали собаки и паучки, локации с головоломками стали чуть нуднее (в хорошем смысле) и теперь в локациях ходят всем знакомые дылды. Каждую локацию разработчики пытались удивить и дать нам адреналинчик в жизнь, что теперь в это хочется играть залпом. Теперь игра продвигает локацию глубже и заставляет взаимодействовать со всем окружением в игре, чтобы открыть себе проход.
Небольшая идея первой части сохраняется и во второй, но расширяя вселенную. Добавление голоса в голове тоже обыграно хорошо, но такое ощущение, что в финале не смогли завершить игру и завершили как есть, добавив фантазии.
Головоломки Туурнгайта вообще выписываются из концепции по данной игре, но игру всё-таки надо было как-то заканчивать и закончили её хорошо.

A couple hours in I was teetering on the edge of giving this a negative review... but after finishing the game, it's so good, despite of some of the flaws.
Black Plague focuses more on the horror than Overture did. I was genuinely terrified in many parts of the game. As for the story, the first half of the game seems really... "absurd" or "crazy" you could say. But it all really adds up to a perfect ending which did those early strange details justice. I think that Black Plague added some of the absurd story additions to provide comedic relief, especially with how terrifying everything else in this game is, and while I thought the use of [spoiler] Clarence was too absurd, Frictional Games thankfully made it work in the end. [/spoiler]
About how Black Plague is more horror-focused than Overture was: there are no weapons at all in Black Plague. In Overture you had the hammer and the icepick to kill dogs if you wanted to, but in Black Plague, you're the rodent in the dark. Also, earlier I said that some of the story was a little absurd at times, but the horror parts on the other hand... The story behind everything terrifying in this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ perfect. [spoiler] The Kennels in the later half of the game has no traditional enemies, rather Wilber Frisk. The background building behind this character through games made him probably one of the most interesting characters in any single game. Ever. [/spoiler]
The puzzles in Black Plague are more difficult than Overture. Sometimes they're more fun than the more simpler puzzles in Overture, but half the puzzles in Black Plague were impossible for me without using a Steam Guide. I only searched up help for 2 puzzles in Overture in comparison. But the addition of computers being used for some puzzles made a lot of puzzles more complex but more fun than the Overture puzzles. (That is when I could figure out how to solve them).
One of the main reasons I sometimes try out a horror game like Resident Evil, is because the progression feels perfect in every single one. Same with Penumbra: Black Plague. Just thought I should point that out.
Both Penumbra: Overture and Black Plague built up so perfectly to a lot of moments that actually stuck with me. [spoiler] Tom Redwood's death at the end of Overture was build up perfectly, absolutely one of the best endings to any game. Amabel's death near the end of Black Plague was built up perfectly and was really saddening. [/spoiler] I love both of these moments and both of the main Penumbra games had perfect endings. Seriously, some of the most perfect endings to any game I've ever played. Up there with the endings from the Metro series (great FPS series too by the way, check it out if you'd like!)
Now because Black Plague is an old game... it's got a couple bugs. If you move your mouse too fast, you're game will bug out like crazy or like stutter for a second. If you want to turn around normally and not like an old person would, your game messes up and its irritating, especially at the end of the game where I had to run from all of the enemies in a couple different chase sequences. Now if you move while this bug occurs, it causes another bug! It's like stick drift that was built inside of the game so you'll just walking into a wall if you don't press the right movement key. I know this isn't intentional but it really irritated me at the end of the game lol. [spoiler] If Clarence already wasn't messing with you enough it's the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ keyboard stick drift, simply put lol. [/spoiler]
Overall, Penumbra: Black Plague is a fantastic sequel to Overture, and I'd consider both games to be masterpieces. Despite the bugs both games have because of their age, there is no story for any game that has made me this absorbed in it. I'm so glad I found this game on my own, and I got it just because you could get the whole Penumbra series for a single dollar. Don't spoil this game for yourself. The story is treasure. Anyways, thanks for reading!
Хороший бюджетный хоррор, лучше первой части (которая овертюр), погружение отличное, история интересная, хотя конечно читать описания жизни шахтеров и ученых в формате стен текста в разбросанных по уровням записках не так увлекательно, зато убрали боевку, что в целом пошло на пользу, уровни более продуманные так что теперь игра не выглядит как несколько лабиринтов в которых тебе нужно сходить во все крайние комнаты, чтобы пройти дальше

Black Plague continúa las historia justo en donde terminó Overture, estando ahora en unas instalaciones conocidas como "El Refugio" y que a lo largo del juego responderán varias preguntas sobre la historia y sucesos del primer juego.
Gráficamente no se ve nada mal y diría que balancearon mucho mejor el uso de las fuentes de luz, dando más uso a la linterna por ejemplo. Aunque los escenarios sean distintos a lo visto en el juego anterior sigue manteniendo esa atmósfera tenebrosa y desoladora tan característica, además de tener momentos de tensión e incertidumbre en varios niveles.
Ya no tendremos ningún arma por lo que estaremos totalmente indefensos durante toda la partida, lo cuál te hace sentir una vulnerabilidad constante ante los enemigos que son aún más aterradores, teniendo que usar el sigilo, el escenario o la huida cuando nos enfrentemos a ellos. Los puzzles siguen siendo igual de desafiantes y entretenidos, requiriendo tanto de la exploración para encontrar los ítems/notas o de la lógica misma para resolverlos, sobre todo el último nivel que es el más complejo a mi parecer.
La historia se enfoca en darnos todas las respuestas a nuestras preguntas a lo largo de la partida, ya sea sobre el padre de Philip, las razones detrás de los acontecimientos durante nuestra aventura y el inicio de todo, por lo que no queda nada sin resolver. Quedé bastante sorprendido por el desenlace final, al principio la explicación me pareció confusa o hasta ridícula pero al finalizar todo termina cobrando más sentido (aunque cierto "personaje" le quita algo de seriedad a la trama, pero también aporta), en lo personal, la historia me pareció increíble y creo que esta saga debería ser más reconocida, esta entrega me pareció muy superior a su antecesora en varios aspectos, aquí si llegue a sentir desesperación o incluso terror en algunas ocasiones, la manera en que siguen utilizando la atmósfera y los relatos para enriquecer esta misma es sorprendente, buena banda sonora, momentos de tensión o en donde juegan con el jugador mismo, que le hayan dado una explicación a todo y sean capaces de concluir con un final bastante decente (y sombrío), me harán recordar esta saga con el cariño que merece.
En resumen, una buena continuación de terror y suspenso, con una historia muy buena a mi parecer y puzzles desafiantes que dan gusto resolver, sin duda recomiendo jugar Penumbra, no tiene pérdida si te interesa este tipo de títulos y es mucho mejor que los típicos juegos con jumpscares aleatorios. Ahora toca jugar su expansión Requiem.
P.D. Nuevamente se debe instalar un parche para el idioma español, y olvidé advertir que estos juegos suelen tener partes que te tiran un flash en toda la cara (eso si les falto mejorar jeje).
The game spends the entire time trying to kill you. Then in the end preaches to you about how morally good the final "boss" is compared to you and others. Wasted about 4.5 hours of my day beating a game everyone else seems to hail as great because reddit told them so.
The horror survival elements were good. I just don't want the game to preach to me at the end for how morally bad I am for wanting to save my dad.

Black Plague is bleak, cruel and depressing. In other words it's awesome! I actually prefer the first game, but I agree with most that this one is tougher and more intense.

Great classic survival horror. Horror games that do not rely on over the top forced-jump scare is peak horror game
Penumbra Black Plague, despite being an old game, older than the big brother amnesia, was a surprisingly pleasant experience. good lore and the gameplay was also really good. only complaint i have is the lack of combat unlike Overture, but its not that bad considering it gives the vibes of games like amnesia the dark descend where you cant fight the monsters, forcing you to sneak around.
100% recommend this saga

its a good game but it doesnt run well on linux. and I haven't been successful at running it well on a VM because the lighting doesn't work. if you can find a way to get it running well, or you still use windows, then I recommend this but otherwise I don't

Overall, the three games are [i]"alright"[/i], which for me means around 4/10. The gameplay can be summarized as a mix of [b]story, puzzles, investigation, exploration, horror, and atmosphere[/b]. The trilogy almost feels like its own genre, more like a series of prototypes than fully refined games. Buy them to support Frictional Games; otherwise, you can safely give them a pass.
Despite [i]Overture[/i] being released in 2007 and [i]Black Plague[/i] and [i]Requiem[/i] in 2008, the gameplay feels quite primitive. There are games from the 1980s and 1990s with superior mechanics, gameplay and overall design.
For a first complete playthrough, taking your time between sessions, expect roughly:

[b]Black Plague:[/b] 15–20 hours (for completionists, 2–3 playthroughs to find all artifacts and notes)
[b]Requiem:[/b] 3–5 hours (for completionists, 2–3 playthroughs to find all artifacts)

It’s decent but short, lasting around 10–15 hours. The focus is on story and adventure. I’d give it 4/10.

A good game and the direct sequel to [i]Overture[/i]. While it continues the story, it differs significantly in tone and gameplay, placing a much stronger emphasis on horror. Overall, this game can be described as a mix of exploration, puzzle-solving, and horror, wrapped in a mysterious narrative. I give it 5/10.
[b]Penumbra: Requiem[/b]
This is a puzzle-focused expansion and a direct sequel to Black Plague. The puzzles are decent if you enjoy games like [i]Portal[/i] or [i]The Talos Principle[/i], but they don’t reach the same level of quality. Requiem is very different from both [i]Overture[/i] and [i]Black Plague[/i], with puzzles and story progression as its main focus. I give it 4/10.

По-другому никак не могу описать происходящую здесь фантасмагорию. В тот момент, когда я охренел от происходящего в [i]Penumbra: Black Plague[/i], выключил игру и ещё минут десять сидел, пялясь в монитор с открытым ртом. Что это, если не показатель качества?
Совсем недавно я начал знакомиться с произведениями [i]Frictional Games[/i]. Тогда начал ловить себя на мысли, что теперь вижу Лавкрафта везде.
Так вот. Мне не кажется. Теперь я уверен. Об этом можно судить, основываясь только лишь на записках в игре, где то и дело проблёскивает самоирония, прямо кивающая в сторону писателя.
У меня всё, а вторая [i]Penumbra[/i] мне определённо понравилась больше, чем первая. Видно, что студия выросла, увидела свои ошибки, да ещё и так понапихала лора, что удивительно, как вообще это всё влезло в столь маленькую по продолжительности игру.

Clarence was the right kind of sadistic. [b]Perfectly sadistic.[/b] He'll make you murder a [spoiler]girl you liked[/spoiler] and be surprised that you don't find it funny. He'll mock your [spoiler]father's death[/spoiler] like he was making fun of something trivial and somehow it doesn't feel like he was trying too hard.
Games that involve problem solving either hold your hand and tell you exactly what you need to do with chevrons and huge waypoints or they're poorly designed and you think, "how the hell was I supposed to figure that?!"
Black Plague's puzzles were logical. They made sense and are difficult enough for you to sit and think about what you need to do but no so ridiculous that you need to look up guides to complete it.
[b]Penumbra Black Plague[/b] still holds up to this day and I'll be playing it again a few years from now just to relive the days when games were actually good.
Enjoyed this game more than the previous installment. Not that the game is scary, but this game has things that aren't wolves and spiders, which makes it feel more like a horror game. The flow and pacing of the game felt good. I only got stuck one or two times and really had to think. The game makes good use of physics for progression puzzles.
The story is fine, nothing too crazy. The game is worth a play if it's on a big sale and you really like the developer. I played Soma and decided to play the rest of their games. If you are not the type of person that wants to do a deep dive into a developers work, then at this point, I'd say stick to Soma, though I haven't played the Amnesia games yet.

С душой выполненное продолжение первой части серии Penumbra, усилившее хоррор составляющую путём забирания у игрока любой возможности противодействия врагам) Данная часть в полной мере раскрыла сюжет и все карты, обличив реальную историю, которая скрывалась за тайными посланиями в начале игры. Головоломки всё такие же интересные и оригинальные, атмосфера радует, в общем рекомендую )

First playthrough review time.
Penumbra: Black Plague is the direct sequel to Penumbra: Overture and this game puts a strong focus on atmosphere, mainly through sound and dark environments. The story is deep and may not be easy to predict, which helps keep interest from start to finish. There is a short recap at the beginning, but playing the earlier entry makes the story clearer overall. Most of the time is spent moving slowly and paying attention to what is around you.
Gameplay is close to the previous title but feels more stable. There is no direct fighting, so danger is handled by avoiding enemies instead. This makes encounters more tense and removes the control problems from before. Puzzles are still important and require reading notes and thinking things through.
The graphics are old, but they still work well with the dark setting. Shadows and low light might build fear of what might be ahead. Sound and voice work fit the game well and add to the mood. Overall, this entry delivers a dark and tense horror experience without relying on action.
I am not usually the type to leave reviews.. however! The Penumbra series has been one of the best series of games I've played in my years on steam. The horror aspect is really good, not too much but it's just right. Absolutely love the nutjob that is Clarence. If you're looking for a good game with some horror aspects, some small laughs and a nice story, play the Penumbra series

Не могу сказать, что лучше первая или вторая, в принципе во что я играл от Frictional Games всё одинаково нравится, действительно жуткие игры с атмосферой от которой кровь стынет в жилах.
Но эта часть не так сильно пугает из-за большого количества квестов на которые уходит основное внимание.
Очень давно проходил её и я вспопомнил, что активно использовал туторы, но к счастью напрочь забыл полностью всё, вначале думал, что я ее первый раз проходил в жизни, частично вспомнил под конец светлую локацию, значит я ее всё-таки проходил. Сейчас я ее прошел полностью сам почти без особых сложностей, единственное серу долго искал. Очень рад что все забыл, прям как в амнезии, а то играть не во что.

In Penumbra: Black Plague pursues the feeling of déjà vu. It seems like you’re just going through Penumbra: Overture, but with a conundrum emphasis at the expense of the mystical aspect and plot. And this, unfortunately, does not help game.
The biggest disadvantage is "black comedy". If in the first part of the game even somehow tried to keep in tension, throwing disturbing messages during the course of the plot, then here the inner voice of Philip carries some kind of madness that laughs rather than scares. The writers' attempts to introduce morality and conflict also look strange, especially in the finale. Many ideas seem to be just a checkmark and don’t open at all. This obsession of the voice and the departure of the plot into alien minds with philosophies do not fit in at all in a dense atmosphere of loneliness, although it is, of course, a subjective opinion.
In addition, the game repeats the mistakes of the previous part. Artificial intelligence has become even worse. There are fewer new enemies than in the original (and they look like aliens from REN-TV). Even the dogs from Overture seemed scarier and more dangerous than the local infected, from which now you can not only fight off, but even distract! Clashes with "bosses" are also not impressive. In all 4-5 hours of the passage you will see a maximum of worms from the last part, a couple of infected in unusual conditions and in principle everything. Gameplay is all about winning and interacting with objects. No weapons in the game.
The main character himself, Philip Lapeska, is strange. In the starting videos and even in Overture he sounds like a normal person talking about his life, but during the whole journey he is silent, and his thoughts are subtitled on the screen. Trash is it or abuse by developers? Not clear.
Using inventory here is almost pointless. Many objects do not disappear even after being used once per story, cluttering up the space. Felsfire - the same useless garbage, and the flashlight began to be discharged twice as fast. In this game you can calmly only with a light stick.
Separate theme - puzzles. It is not clear why Frictional Games shoves, for example, mixing liquids in almost every game. Black Plague is full of long corridors and rooms, but it doesn’t make the puzzles any more interesting or complicated. It all comes down to the typical old game moments where you have to run around the map and get back to your starting position in order to move on.
The schedule has hardly changed. There are more light spaces, which combined with the absence of any frightening atmosphere is unforgivable for a horror. Even in the much-hated Outlast, the use of cheap screeners was more organic and creepy.
I do not understand where 93% of positive reviews. Perhaps to olds, game will seem scary and nostalgic, but newcomers here have nothing to do. I, as a man who did not play in Penumbra especially in the year of its release, remained indifferent.
