This game just rocks. It's a no BS, high octane thrill ride that will always have you on the edge of your seat. A kickass soundtrack with insanely fun gameplay. It isn't easy, but once you get the hang of it everything falls into place. A must place if you enjoy games such as hotline miami or enter the gungeon.
OXTO is one of those games that has everything I like but just isn't quite what I wanted it to be. It's not a bad game, hence my thumbs up, but I do want to talk about what I wanted vs what I got.
The goal is clear, you're on one side of the mansion and your wife is on the other. There is a large body of faceless mooks in between you and her, and you are going to kill all of them. To that end you have a premium selection of drinks that buff you up, a large variety of guns with which you can Swiss-cheese the mansion's inhabitants, and magic time-slow powers. All of which you'll need as the enemies get stronger, more-reactive, faster the deeper in you go.
The combination of these factors may ring a bell (or phone) and it certainly did for me. Vice even describes this game as like Hotline Miami, but I actually think that comparison isn't really accurate. While they're both top down high octane action games, the roguelike format and tankier enemies make the game play very different. Because unlike Hotline Miami the enemies don't die in one hit, and if you die you go back to the beginning, I find myself playing it very differently than I would Hotline Miami, much slower and more carefully. I don't think I like it as much as a consequence. This isn't aided by the visual limitations of the game.
Let's talk about visibility because it's a real problem. Enemies shoot you from further offscreen than you can see, the idea being you can use your time-slow when you enter blind hallways or large rooms, but I find that it's easier and safer to just fall back and let them come to you since many hallways lack forward cover and they can fire for longer than your focus lasts. You'd reasonably say "just run in and be aggressive, worse comes to worse you die", but while that works in Hotline Miami because you lose at most like 3 minutes of progress, losing a 1 hour run is a really bad feeling. Furthermore the black, white and red color pallet is striking, but does make it difficult to figure out what you're actually looking at. A living enemy standing on top of a dead enemy looks like same as two living enemies, but one will fill you with a lot more bullets. Boss attacks can be poorly telegraphed since lots of AOE attacks look a lot like the floor.
None of these things are dealbreakers, and I do like OXTO, but if you're looking for Hotline Miami I don't think this scratches that itch.

I am not the kind of person to play these games, but I came across the theme of the Senior Grand Botanist online and got curious what kind of game had such a great track. It is a roguelike (which means no save points) however I found that that's part of the charm; to come home, start a new run and see how far I reach that time, improving my strategy for tomorrow until ultimately reaching the end. People say this game is the successor to Hotline Miami but I have never played nor seen it. This game stands proud all by itself, an exceptional shooter game experience with a soundtrack to match.
It's a decent game, but I started getting bored after just 20 minutes. I would never buy it at full price, and honestly, I wouldn't recommend anyone buy it unless it's on a 80% discount or something. Like I said, the fun completely wore off for me in 20 minutes. It feels like one of those games YouTubers play in a single sitting for a video and then never touch again.
To be fair, it does have simple yet fun mechanics. I can see how fans of this style could really love it, but overall, I think the game is just too basic. Even the upgrades felt pretty nonsensical. For example, there's an upgrade that gives you an extra mag for pistols, but in the 3-4 runs I played, I barely even came across a single pistol. Also, I really didn't enjoy the meta-progression.

Absolute WMD of a soundtrack, large variety of well-crafted guns, and even though it's a roguelite, the gameplay loop will get you hooked and gradually whip you into getting good.

Top down high adrenaline game w slo mo tech to keep things fast fun and fresh. The upgrades and progression weren’t punchy enough to create power fantasy by end of a run I like to see. That being said solid shooting movement gameplay and stand out art that wisely contrasts black white and red to catch your eye. If you like hotline Miami and rogue like games this is a great addition to both genres.

Soundtrack is f-ing insane and the feeling of kicking booty is magnificent.
Getting kicked in the booty however, isn't that much fun. :(
Especially because you have to re-start from scratch and one mistake can cost you your entire run.
Every run is unique due to 150+ unique maps and it takes about 1 hour to get through all stages. With each stage the difficulty increases and it gets freaking hard to survive if you are through the first half of the game.
There are however ways to cheese the game to get free rerolls of the drinks and through some combinations you can get basically unlimited ammo. (I won't spoil the fun for you, it is pretty hilarious to finish the game that way)
I feel like cheesing the free rerolls is sadly essential, as you need the right drink combination to kick booty after a while. If you however have bad rng once/twice, your run is more or less over.
To summarize:
Pros:
+ You feel like a god when clearing a room
+ BEST soundtrack you will ever encounter
+ Tons of replayability
+ Each run is unique
+ Awesome approach with the boosters
+ Tons of stuff you can unlock (Feels sometimes a bit grindy, but you get through it pretty quickly)
+ Steam Guides are awesome as there is little to none content on YT
+ When you don't know what to do with your life, you just boot that b*tch up
Cons:
- Some cheese in my opinion essential, as you otherwise are completely dependent upon RNG and one bad assortment of drinks can ruin your run.
- Sometimes it gets pretty frustrating if you have to restart every time from scratch and the first floor is more or less a no-brainer.
-(+) You learn only through trial-and-error. For me I sometimes just got stuck for 10 runs on one single level or boss. If you get the patterns however, they may feel a bit too easy.
Just get the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game please. It is the best thing I have played in years...

OTXO имеет свой вайб и крутую динамичность. Есть много разных приколюх типа собачки, рыбалки, или коллекционных предметов. Ещё есть много пушек, совершенно отличающихся между друг-другом по характеристикам, что очень радует.
Следил за otxo, ещё с демо версий, откуда кстати крутую анимацию перехода между уровнями вырезали, и немного музла в добавок.
На самом деле, то сколько крутых треков в игре попросту не используется, поражает. Хотелось бы видеть в дальнейшем какие-то хоть минимальные обновления на игру или редактор для сообщества.

Holy smokes, is this the best top down shooter I've played in my whole life. And don't get me wrong, top down shooters are one of my favorite types of games, but this one just takes the cake. And yes, I have played Hotline Miami. OTXO is a rouge-like which adds an interesting twist. Its a fast paced, blood soaked, floor clearing, adrenaline fueled rampage of a blast, I think the trailers make it pretty clear. After every few floors, you get to purchase alcoholic beverages that give you unique abilities, so that part is pretty realistic. You also get to slow down time, which is a pretty dope mechanic that makes it seem a bit like a top down rouge-like F.E.A.R. clone. And trust me, that's a good thing. I'm personally also a huge fan of the art design, having it just be black and white except for the blood of your enemies. The story wasn't anything too special, but I thought it sufficed to do what it needed to do. The sound track absolutely SLAPS, think metal mixed with Mongolian throat singing. I bought the vinyl limited release that's how good the soundtrack is. It makes me genuinely heartbroken that this game isn't more popular, it really deserves to be up there with the greats. Please do yourself a solid favor, and pick up this hidden gem of a masterpiece. Dev, if you read this, I hope you know you've earned my loyalty. I will be buying whatever you make next, because you've proven that you know how to make quality games.

The Hotline Miami inspired gameplay is fun but weighted down by a really poor system to unlock new weapons and god awful roguelike mechanics. Plus people ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and moaned about how enemies in HL2 could shoot you from offscreen yet its way worse here due to not being able to look nearly far enough away. I really wish I could give a neutral rating but since steam doesn't have that it's going to be a positive as it is still worth playing a little.
A quick jaunt through the first couple pages of negative reviews and I don't see a single one that can be called reasonable
Therefore I will provide an objective complaint. Did you know the drinks at the bar can be re-rolled for free in 5 seconds by doing Esc-->Save and Quit-->Continue Run? Did you know you should probably do this in order to get the "Achieving the Impossible" achievement and get all of the collectibles? Oh and if you're desperate enough, feel free to make a backup of your saved game every level in order to cheese the "Sober" achievement

- The cocktails mechanic is creative but personally I don't care
- You have Corey's dodge roll from HM2 and it's better because there's no cooldown, so you can finish quickly the nightmare of level design, but for bullet dodging? the same as the original source, useless
- Combo system is completely broken (ON PURPOSE). In Hotline Miami, each enemy adds 1 number to your combo, I kill 5, the combo is x5, in OTXO if I kill 5 I still have a x2 or x3, imagine a meter from %0 to %100, here every enemy represents a %25 instead of a %100, meaning that I have to kill 4 enemies to go from a x2 combo to a x3.
- Developers apparently don't know what a shotgun and assault rifle is, it's hilarious. Here, shotguns shoot one bullet in a straight line and quick, and rifles shoot 3 or more bullets with a huge area with cooldown. I'm not joking, the sprites represent these weapons, there's an image of what do you have equiped, shotguns work as assault rifles, and assault rifles work as shotguns, what the hell?
- The sprites are the same as HM but painted in black...

Now that I got my first win, I feel comfortable putting a review out there. Yes, this game is fantastic and I had fun with every run I did. However, as far as roguelites go, it is just above average. Runs are basically the same every time and they are surprisingly long (almost 90 mins). I can see myself beating the Impossible Mode, but after that, I don't see myself going back to it. The guns are all fun, the sound design is on point, and the music is killer, but the upgrades are not all that useful most of the time and not very interesting. Luckily, the core loop of the game is super fun and it carries it quite far, but I don't see this one getting hundreds, or even dozens of hours out of me.

After completely 100%ing the game, achievements and internal challenges, I can soundly say it's a great alternative from Hotline Miami 1 & 2. Despite the main focus of OTXO being roguelike, I think it handles it's buffs, enemy variety, and weapon variety well. I wouldn't say its a successor to H.M., but I do think it's a strong alternative for those that prefer combat from H.M over narrative. While there is an underlying story and narrative in OTXO, it's pretty hidden and most is up to player interpretation.
The music score fits extremely well for OTXO, the synthwave and electronic aesthetic fits really well with what the game is about. My personal favorites are Haunting Eternal, Deabura, and Devil's Meat Grinder. The music really enforces the idea of power, the player taking said power and slaughtering countless enemies with it.
While I do have some frustrations about the Fishing achievement, that's just what this game is about. Determination and frustration, all that matters is that if you decide to continue and "break" the cycle. I'd say it's definitely worth a try, after all, it's only $15 and you can refund within the two hours if it's not for you. If you do enjoy the game, I'd say go the extra mile and buy the soundtrack to support the devs (This game is the only game I have purchased the soundtrack for).

Just beat the final boss for the first time after a god-like run. This game is hard, but absolutely worth it. If you were craving the intensity from Hotline Miami, or just something adrenaline inducing, this is your game.
I AM BORED BOSS
Has a killer soundtrack, and guns feel great, and you aren't punished for removing weapons you don't want in your run. The game does the good thing where you are incentivized to play fast, but the game will not stop you from playing slow either.
My only complaint is I'm not the hugest fan of the weapon unlock system, it has RNG (the chance to get a lost room) plus RNG (The chance to roll for a weapon vs a collectable), then RNG on what weapon you get. So a lot of your early time should be spent on maxing the amount of money you bring into a lost room, so you can go play gatcha. But that is literally my only complaint.

This game is crazy, in so many good ways. With most guns you tear through everything, and have enough health that you aren't torn through instantly in return, but this is very much a game focused on resource management, and your health is very much a resource you have to conserve. If you're caught out in the open with no focus and no ammo, you will be shot many times and likely killed. The most evil part of the game design, however, is that this game actively tries to get you to ignore these resource management elements. You will constantly be put into situations where you have used all your focus, and have three bullets left in your clip, but devil's meat grinder is blaring and your combo's about to drop and there are three enemies in the next room who are begging to have their heads exploded. The game wants you to make bad decisions and commit murder, and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you will make bad decisions and commit murder because ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ this soundtrack will give you superpowers.
14/10 only complaint is that going into focus ♥♥♥♥♥ with the music

I love this game so much that after getting a GOG copy years ago, I got another copy on Steam just today for simpler automatic cloud saves on Steam Deck. I have zero regrets, because even though my save is wiped, it just means I get to play more OTXO to unlock it all again.
