I was interested in this game based on the music alone as a fan of the music genre the artists for the soundtrack do, but that being said, it seems that the music is literally all this has going for it. The graphics are meh at best, the MC's voice acting sounds so flat as if she's uninterested in what she is doing, some of the side actors outshine her in their performance. The timed events are some of the worst I have ever experienced in a timed event game. You barely get enough time to do your "quest", half of the time the quests don't even show up until well into the timer so you're just wandering around aimlessly trying to figure out what to do. When you finally get told what you need to do for the quest, you barely have enough time to even get it done. I have never had this problem before in any choices matter game where I am failing nearly every time event because we're not being told what to do right away. It's like they want us to explore but we're also timed and can't explore everything and just fail. What's the point of there being items we can inspect and an area in a scene we can explore if we're being timed in everything we do? The game also feels a bit lifeless. I'd recommend to get this on sale if you want to experience it yourself, or avoid it entirely because honestly you're not missing out on anything that has already not been touched on in video games. The idea itself behind the game is the only thing it has going for it honestly. Symphonic metal music to a dark choices matter story, how could you not be interested in that alone? Too bad the game is meh.

Не игра, а сплошное разочарование. Очень мало времени даётся на прохождение уровня. За это время надо успеть:
1) обследовать весь ♥♥♥♥ уровень мать его;
2) найти нужные предметы (а когда носишься галопом по уровню, потому что времени мало, то часто просто не замечаешь нужный предмет);
3) сообразить что с этими предметами делать надо (да, даже если знаешь инглиш хорошо, всё равно во время геймплея частенько возникают вопросы в духе "блин, ну и как мне это сделать???", "ну и как я здесь пройду? обойти нельзя!!!", "да, я поняла, что мне нужен этот предмет, только где же он лежит, ♥♥♥♥??");
4) сделать что-то с этими предметами.
А за отведённое время я успеваю только побегать немного по уровню, найти немного каких-то предметов, нифига не понять, что делать с ними нужно, охренеть и всё просрать. Таких придурковатых уровней в игре немного, всего лишь ВСЯ ИГРА.
QTE в этой игре - это пытка. Ладно, если бы кнопки, которые надо прожимать определённым образом, появлялись бы по очереди, но нет, они появляются по несколько штук за раз, при чём одну кнопку надо нажать один раз, другую - нажать и удерживать, по третьей спамить как дятел, а кнопок на экране может быть далеко не три. Чтобы увернуться от той машины из видения, надо пройти такую кутэешку, а чтоб её пройти, надо быть роботом.
Драка и стрельба из пистолета тут совершенно ни к месту, как по мне. Левой кнопкой мыши бьёшь, а правой закрываешься. Просто, казалось бы. Но часто мимо врага промахиваюсь и бью в пустоту, часто меня разворачивало в другую сторону из-за ударов врага. Чтоб убить челика из пистолета, мне потребовалось всадить в него 6 патронов, а в пистолете всего 8. Вот такие тут имбовые противники. Хорошо хоть, что по скидке приобрела это недоразумение, хоть не так обидно.
А в конце этот бородач застрелил меня в затылок исподтишка. Интересно было бы глянуть другие концовки этой игры, но не хочется ещё раз проходить через вышеописанный ад.

Every time i talk about this game it sounds like i hate it but i really love it. In fact i gave it 9/10 in my old review and i still stand by it because music and stuff.
With good gameplay it will probably be my favourite game of all times.

This title falls under the "wish there was a neutral button". I played only via Steam Deck, so feed back here for the review is based on my experience playing it this way. First off, the game is labeled as being a verified deck game. This is more or less true, the prologue worked fine with no settings changes. However, getting the actual game to run required forcing it to Proton 5.13-6 compatibility. Some video did not display properly and navigating back to main menu from ends of chapters hung the game requiring forced shut down.

The Music score was stellar and fit the themes of the game well as was certainly intended. The game play for me was less than stellar. QTE events run the show here and are quite confusing in some places or out right impossible to get right as you are on a time elapse to complete objectives and use QTE. There isn't much room for exploring an area because of this and you will often fail to accomplish a lot of things. Although failing to do things doesn't lead to any game over or repeat of the chapter to continue, it left me feeling like I missed a large part of the narrative going on. I'm aware that there are multiple endings which I assume I could reach by completing QTE better or managing to beat the clock in some scenes to alter the outcome in the ending. I don't think I'll be doing another play through to be honest as the pressure of beating the clock to find things in overly large areas coupled with QTE system that had a lot of moving parts puts me off from giving it another try.

I found the story was adequate for my time spent with it and it is certainly a different type of interactive game that is worth a try. In closing I would say cautiously recommended with the expectation that there will be much trial and error to see all thats on offer here.

[i]Ok, I know I am very late to the review party for this game. However, I cannot let the negative reviews be the first thing people see when making their decision. So, here comes the controversial part of my review:[/i]

[b]Of Bird And Cage really is a great game![/b] Welcome to my Ted Talk:

OBAC is a "Life is Strange" -esque deep dive into the life of one young woman with a ton of real life problems. She grew up in an abusive home, still lives with an abusive parent, and has fallen into a life of drug abuse and so much more. She is so sad and compelling leading us to empathize with her and hopefully guide her to a better outcome through it all.

Honesty up front: I have played only the first act (songs 1-5) of the game, but I have played them numerous times over about 6 hours. Is it a perfect game? Absolutely not, but let's cover the important stuff.

[h3]PLOT[/h3]
The story of the game is as immersive as it is heart wrenching. It makes us want to succeed, and the more I learn about Gitta and her past, the more I want to help her through this turmoil.

[h3]GAMEPLAY[/h3]
The key division among reviewers... this game has many coding flaws and glitches, but that's part of the charm. It is blatantly obvious where the developers wanted to focus their coding. For example, as the music plays, some things in the environment illuminate or pulse in time with the music. This is very enjoyable. Gitta's thoughts randomly appear as words you walk in/through/around, and that feels true to how thoughts enter and exit our minds as things happen around us. And the singing scenes are beautifully created while some of the lesser non-plot based conversations are not as thoroughly polished.

Every act is one song in length, each with their own missions and "story changing actions". You have the length of one song to find the correct things to interact with and/or people to talk to. IMHO, this increases my desire to replay the game (and why I have 6 hours in only 5 songs). Either I enjoy the song itself, I enjoy trying to figure out what to accomplish during the song, or many times BOTH. It is absolutely possible to accomplish every listed mission within each song. Some songs give plenty of time to do this, while others do not. In the end, whatever missions you accomplish or story changing actions you end with is up to you, and you can replay each song to get the results you desire, ultimately developing Gitta exactly the way you want her to be by the time she reaches the end of her journey.

Interactions happen in the form of mini-games where you have to click or hold buttons to accomplish a task. Some reviewers say these QTEs are needlessly complex, but I say that adds to the tension of the moment. For example, a drinking mini-game requires you to hold one button while clicking another repeatedly, simple enough. But a couple of songs later, you have to hold a button and click another repeatedly in a frantically shorter amount of time to escape a pursuing kidnapper. My only negative comment about the gameplay is in the form of the combat system, but this game isn't a fighting game! It's a song-based story. Not only that, our character is a drug-using 25 year old waitress. She shouldn't be good at combat anyway, making the fight scenes quite realistic.

[h3]MUSIC[/h3]
Let's get this out of the way: as much as the game says it is "metal", it is not. This is symphonic rock. Some of the songs are purely instrumental while others are fully vocalized with in-game characters singing. The music sounds like Evanescence and Within Temptation because that's what the developers wanted it to sound like. It is obvious that the music is where they spent the majority of their budget (as you can tell by some of the game's coded scenes).

[h3]VOICES[/h3]
Ok, so the voice acting isn't all that great, but again, that's NOT the point! The conversations that do occur verbally are merely filler to get to the music. It's the plot that matters, and many of the best interactions in the game are not voiced at all. Instead, they are Gitta's thoughts written around the person talking explaining what they are saying in fewer words "I'm late for work" or "He wants privacy", etc. Another example of just how smart the developers were is how realistic Gitta's thoughts actually are. As a 5-year-old Gitta plays with her mommy, she is an innocent little child. This makes the abuse her father causes to her mother all that much more heartbreaking when observant little Gitta thinks "Mommy and Daddy are dancing" before he hits her and "Is it because of me" after the fight ends. There are many other thoughts Gitta has that clearly outline how her mind is working as the events unfold around her, showing the developers had a strong understanding of how her mind would work in reality. And if I'm being honest, I like Gitta's voice.

[h3]LENGTH[/h3]
Play it from start to finish in one go, and take what you get in regards to what happens to Gitta in each song, and yeah, the game is only 2 hours long. It's the replayability where this game makes its mark. As I said above, you WANT to play again because you WANT to do better. I find myself replaying songs wondering what happens if Gitta doesn't make it to the elevator, or what if Gitta doesn't take any drugs? (BTW, the game actually doesn't let you enter certain areas if she is halucinating! That changes the story!)

There are 4 endings. I have seen none of them, but I can't wait to see them all!

i just played it on stream (to the message from the devs where you dont show the ending)
this game takes heavy topics and blend it to such an experince you dont know if you wanna cry, hate or have sympathy with the charakters. how to discribe it: drugs, abuse, childhood trauma all in one big rocking musical. realy loved it! thank you for such an amazing game. got ending 2 out of 4 so 3 more to go.

I was excited to try this game based on the "Very Positive" reviews and the different concept, but my experience was completely different. The game was choppy even just walking forward or turning. The character animations are laughable at best. The voice acting, when there is any, is terrible. And the music, the "feature" of this game, is not good at all. I didn't know what I was expecting going into this game, but it certainly wasn't this.

Stay away from this game until they redo it from scratch. I bought it on sale and asked for a refund.

I had high hopes for this one because the marriage of progressive metal and interactive story-telling would be right up my ally, but [i]Of Bird and Cage[/i] completely underwhelmed me.

The music is good, that's all I can say on a positive note. Other than that: the graphics are bad, the story is uninteresting, whatever voice acting is present is mediocre, and the controls and gameplay are just terrible. In less than three hours of playing, the game crashed once, while it froze every time I made the bold move to click on "Back to main menu".

Really, this game is just a mess. The bad controls make all the action sequences look boring while the poor graphics make all the dramatic scenes look unintentionally funny, like a low-budget Saturday morning cartoon. Meanwhile the gameplay consists of some of the worst fighting and racing levels you've seen in decades, or just boring "find the hidden object" segments which are all on a tight time constraint because the gameplay needs to synch with the musical score.

Alright, so it pains me to have to say this, but I wouldn't recommend this game.

It has absolutely wonderful and great concepts applied, but it falls apart in the dev side. Best way to describe it is it feels like an amazing game concept, but slapped together with all the cheapest or free assets possible to make it come together when you don't have the budget to do the programming yourself. So S-Tier concept, absolute failure in terms of gameplay.

Controls are trash, mini game fights are trash, quick time events are somehow 1000% more trash than most quick time events, and I say this as a software developer that for funsies has made basic games whose controls functioned identically to this game. Know how I did it, purchased or installed free assets that other people made and then tweaked it a bit to try smoothing it out. It came out just as bad as this.

Should pull out the dumb fights, turn it into more timed choices, basic puzzles, etc. Play to the games and devs strengths here. Sure you won't have as many features to the game, but I would greatly prefer a fully functional simpler game than this buggy crap (bug in this case meaning not ship-able quality). I legit want to see the other story possibilities, but getting through to one ending was a huge trial in patience that I uninstalled it after one play through and will not ever attempt to play it again, not will I watch someone else play it just to see the other endings because that in itself would be painful to watch.

REALLY GREAT GAME!!!
But be warned.
You will most likely need to do 2 playtroughs to fully understand this game.
but thats not much a problem, as it got multiple endings and such, and lots of tings to do.

youre mostly playing the game in real time with the music, so your choises and what you do is really important.
Pretty realistic game, about tings that can happen in life.

Primeiramente, é necessário gostar muito de Rock, pois o game é full trilha sonora em Rock. Eu particularmente gosto, e achei isso muito bom.
Referente ao game, trata-se de algo que enfrentamos na sociedade de hoje, infelizmente. Como por exemplo, pai abusando de filha, (Não irei entrar a fundo nessa tema, porem o jogo aborda).
Brigas de família, jovem indo ao caminho de drogas pesadas e etc. Tudo isso o jogo aborda, porem com uma linguagem bacana, e uma ótima narrativa.
Lembrando que é um jogo de escolhas dentro da sua historia, ou seja, o futuro sempre dependera da suas escolhas.
Para quem tem os temas abordados em sua vida, talvez não seja legal, pois é algo muito sensível e individual. Porem para quem não enfrenta este tipo de problemas em sua vida, vale a pena a investida no game, justamente para abrir os olhos com o que acontece na sociedade, e na vida de muitas famílias.
Os gráficos são muito bons, porem o foco é na narrativa mesmo, e acaba passando despercebido o gráfico.
Mas é recomendadíssimo, vale a pena.

Это, наверное, первая моя игра, которой я не знаю, что поставить "палец вверх" или "вниз". После пролога и первого уровня - однозначно крутая! Есть множество действий на уровне, которые не сразу и очевидны; можно переигрывать уровень; хорошая задумка с музыкальной канвой.
После первой половины игры всё стало уже хуже: порой проходишь уровень, а в нём вообще ничего из заданий не выполнил! Плохая физика, невнятная механика подбора и перемещения, опять это "лабиринты нашего сознания". В общем, неуд.
Но вот в финальной части, когда сюжет раскрылся полностью, то, блин, это ж круто! И выборы, а точнее исполнение QTE, не носят номинальный характер, а порой весьма кардинально изменяют уровень. Наверное, вот это и убедило поставить плюс игре. Попробуйте, если не боитесь страшненькой анимации, особенно лицевой.

I really wanted to like this game, because the concept behind it is suuuper cool. Like, an interactive metal album? Sign me the ♥♥♥♥ up! Reality, however, is harsher. You can have style over substance in video games, but there's very little substance in this, and it's all very bad.

Of Bird and Cage tells the story of a young woman who can't seem to escape bad decisions, even when you're telling her to stop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up, y'know, in the INTERACTIVE part of the game? The game part plays as a sort of point and click adventure, where you have to find stuff to interact with in order to advance the plot. Again, cool concept, but poorly executed. The story is bad, and told ass-backwards - as in, something happens, then the game goes "five hours before", then something else happens and it's "two hours before". ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ just tell me the story the way it happened. I know this was probably created this way in an attempt to hide the fact that the player has very little agency, but it just makes the plot unnecessarily hard to follow.

Getting stuck in this game is very easy, which is a problem when you have a set time to make the story advance. It's hard to stay inside my 5min time limit when I can't find a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pair of shoes anywhere and that's all I'm looking for during the entirety of those five minutes.

Finally, the music is awesome, but it takes you too long to reach it. In fact, I never did during my playthrough. That, and the bad game design and poorly told story made me give up on the game. The idea has potential, and I feel like it'd be awesome if the devs came up with a patch to fix all these issues, maybe make a definitive edition of sorts. As it stands though, it's hard to enjoy.

J'ai rarement fait un jeu aussi bugué et nul à la fois
Entre les musiques insupportables, les bug graphiques, la maniabilité de déplacement aussi bien à pied qu'en voiture,
le fait qu'on doit "rusher" le jeu car il y a du temps entre chaque étape !
J'ai quasiment rien réussi à finir
Le jeu n'a aucun sens, on ne comprend rien ça part dans tous les sens
Bref je suis désolée mais pour moi c'est une très mauvaise expérience je suis rarement aussi négative dans mes avis mais là je peux pas faire autrement, heureusement que je l'ai pris en promo parce que là c'est vraiment une perte d'argent pour moi.

This Game is like nothing else out there soits hard to write a review but I will try,I have loved this game since i played the demo then i bought the game.I definitely recommend giving this game a try. The story itself is exceptionally grim, centring around various traumatic themes that are thrown in all at once and it is certainly not for the faint hearted.One of the most unique and surreal experiences you will ever play. Beauty and the Beast meets Sin City on a modern story covering multiple real adult issues.Hands down, one of the best, most twisted games (in a good way!) I've ever played. A game which as actually a music album experienced as a video game - for a start, is just awesome. The music - one of the best metal albums I've heard. On top of that, there is a really really dark story that gave me the chills at the very beginning of the game. I enjoyed every second of it. It's really more than just a game. It's an experience which I highly recommend everyone! Thank you for this game Capricia Productions & All In games its one of my favorites of all time.

I really wanted to play the entire game and enjoy it. However, I got stuck on an object that made me unable to continue the game. The game also doesn't allow enough time for players to complete objectives IMO (Example: Had to explore a house to collect belongings that were spread out and was unable to find them all before the timer ran out). I will be requesting a refund which is a shame since I was really looking forward to playing the game :(

I started playing the game at the time of this review, despite getting it a while back. It's an interesting concept. If you love symphonic metal, you're going to love this journey.

The "game" itself is more of an interactive movie than a game. It's still within the boundaries of PG-13...esque. I mean, sure there are some mature themes, but nothing ever explicit aside from the occasional strong language. Visually, it feels like watching a twisted children fantasy. The character models although recycled have their own styles and flair to it. But only one costume throughout, hence my comparison.

Now, onto gameplay: If you are familiar with QTE games, it is basically that. You have sets where you can explore and "investigate", sometimes with "minigames". The controls...can use some work on. But, I haven't played the game with a controller yet, so I don't know if plugging in a controller plays better than sticking to keyboard and mouse combo.

Do I recommend this game? In short, yes. Do it for the music. The musical cast is great. The voice cast...YMMV. Visually? Tolerable. But you didn't come here for the visuals. Gameplay: relatively simple, if you are used to playing various games. Control-wise? Could be better.

It's not easy for me to give this game a bad review, because I genuinely think the idea is wonderful and the devs seem like lovely people. However, I want to be honest when giving reviews, as this serves both other people as well as the devs to improve their game.

The idea of this game, a metal album presented as a game is pretty neat. In practice this basically plays as 1 level = 1 song. Sometimes the music is just in the background, sometimes it's the characters themselves singing. Each song is roughly 10-15 minutes long so the game isn't super long, but it doesn't need to be to tell it's story.

The reason I'm giving this game a bad review is the gameplay. There is too much going on in this game. You can tell the devs had lots of ideas they wanted to implement into the game, but sometimes less is better.
You have a drug meter in this game, you can find drugs and take them which changes the vision of your character. It doesn't do much else aside distorting your vision if you don't find any drugs. The gameplay itself feels clunky..
What bothered me most where the objectives in the game. Very often you're tasked to explore and find certain items in order to progress, but since the game constantly runs on a timer, the song, you always end up not being able to find everything in time. The game does not wait for you and depending on how you do the story slightly changes. You can't really lose or mess up, which is good cause half the time I felt myself not finding an item I needed. It does feel like the type of game that wants you replaying it multiple times in order to get everything perfect. Further shown by the fact that there are multiple endings.

I don't want to say too much about the story, since it's most likely what you will get the game for. I liked how it started out, but later on there were some things that didn't make a lot of sense. But again, it was an interessting story.

If you want this game, I'd suggest waiting for a sale. The devs had great ideas, the execution just lacks. But for an experiment worth about 3 hours, it can certainly be a fun time.

Bought this game because a big streamer from my country suggested it. Worst mistake I made this year. The game is unpolished with many bugs that can make the game unplayable. The reaction times for important decisions are a joke! They happen too fast, making me think this game hasn't been playtested a lot. The singing parts are laughable and cringeworthy. The only reason I haven't got a refund for this game is because I asked for it after two weeks. Skip this game and buy Life is Strange instead.

Proper review pending once I actually finish the game. I've played through two acts so far, trying to keep it at one a day.

I love this game for its sheer audacity, and I highly recommend it. I had been pondering whether a game could also be a musical (as I'm a fan of both) when it popped up on my recommendations. So of course I bought it, and then sat on it for a month before playing it.

Neither the music nor the gameplay are impressive on their own. The latter consists of unreasonably difficult, timed object hunts; intrusive, Telltale-style quicktime events; and clunky, unresponsive combat against NPCs with completely unrealistic behaviour. The former sounds like the cheesiest power metal concept album you've ever heard, complete with bad synth, almost stupidly on-the-nose lyrics, and incredibly simple chord progressions. (Credit to the musicians for at least playing and/or singing it very well.)

Somehow the combination of the two is utterly engrossing.

The Telltale-style quicktime events are disruptive and distract you from the music, which is [i]why[/i] the lyrics are stupidly simplistic: they let you pick up on what's going on even while you're scrambling to accomplish the tasks you've been given. Meanwhile the music, while certainly not impressive, is in no way bad, and the operatic and disturbing plot adds a huge amount of weight to its metal cred. Even when I find myself laughing at janky animations or ridiculous minigames, I am still thoroughly immersed in what might not have been a good metal album if it were a traditional release, but is an excellent metal album taken as a whole package.

Some of this game is even broken, and I just don't care, because none of what's broken actually matters. If anything it adds to the charm. I salute the devs and musicians for taking this risk, and I even hope there'll be a follow-up that surpasses the original.

An afterword regarding difficulty: as I said, a lot of the sections are unreasonably difficult. I don't think I've won a single object hunt yet, and it took me until the middle of act 2 to finally win my first fight. Part of that seems to be purely for immersion -- fights that your player character just isn't equipped to win -- but I think part of it also is replayability. The music actually seems to change based on what you do or fail to do, and at the end of the day, a metal album is something you listen to again and again, not just once. I think it actually fits the artistic vision very well.

This game makes me angry. There are glaring bugs, such as trying to go back to the menu from the prologue screen freezing the game (a terrible first impression) or the controls not updating when you unplug the controller. There is head bobbing, plus the camera swings wildly all the time. This can't be turned off. Combined that with the "drug" visual effects and the blurry text you're supposed to read to learn the protagonist's thoughts, and soon I had a massive headache (I still have it as I write this).

The protagonist is implied to be making terrible decisions. If you attempt not to make them, the game will ostensively let you, but the bad decisions will happen off camera anyway. Why pretend, then?

Often the gameplay seems to want you to find objects on the scene, but you have to do so within very tight time limits. You have no idea where these objects might be, so soon the game will tell you you failed. I'm not sure this matters either. Whoever's nearest will then turn violent and beat up the protagonist. Ugh. Other pointless minigames include key mashing QTEs and escape sequences with really janky physics.

Finally frickin DJ Billy Butcher from The Boys will show up to kidnap you and lock you in a trunk (singing all the while), and that's when things turn full blown psychadelic. If you thought you were as frustrated as you could be, think again. Whatever the game telegraphs as the objective you're supposed to accomplish is a lie. You will teleport from scene to scene, platforms will disappear from under you, barriers will block your path, basically you're doomed to lose, I think. [i]That is not a fun gaming experience.[/i] The whole game is outrage and frustration porn. I quit at this point in disgust, confusion and with one more migraine than I had when I started.

The music is pretty good. I don't know if it's possible to buy the soundtrack separately, but if it is, I would recommend doing so. I'd rather just watch this as a non-interactive youtube music video playlist really. I would probably have a good time.

Oh what a mess. Where to start - so, the game is an unmitigated disaster. Graphics - bad. Controls - bad. Gameplay - Huh what? Non-existent, yet also bad. Story? I suppose it's a matter of taste... It's pretty linear. Even though there are meant to be meaningful choices/decisions you mostly end up in the same places. Definitely cheap, nasty and misanthropic in any case. So as a game it's a hard pass. Does it work as a piece of art? A bit more difficult to judge. Some great musicians that I love are involved, but I don't think you'll hear their best work here. Even if you did, the mess of a game would stop you noticing... This is really the worst example of "game as art" I've ever seen. So to everyone, involved, please stop - you suck at this. We'll see you on stage again soon, until then maybe stick to the studio?

Приятно удивило, что в век триггеров, чувствительных чувств и табу на проблематичный контент, появилась неироничная игра с абсолютно отбитой (по выбору) героиней, готовой переспать с дилером за дозу, огребающей побои от пьяницы-отца, а потом и вовсе закрутившей непонятные шашни со своим похитителем. Не говоря о том, что даже вынося людей пачками, она чувствует себя замечательно. Только сюжет здесь просто непроходимо тупой. Со скрипом можно поверить в действия главной героини, ведь почему у нее могло сорвать крышу становится очевидно довольно скоро. Зато остальные персонажи просто есть и просто делают.. что-то. Для чего-то.

Больше всего непонятно, какой мотив двигал похитителем во второй половине игры. Почему он трижды помог героине расквитаться с обидчиками, только чтобы после их общего побега в светлое будущее, исподтишка пустить ей пулю в затылок? xD Я понимаю, что это концовка, в которой игрока наказывают за проявленное насилие, но не наказывать же людей тупорылыми сюжетными поворотами?

С похитителем вообще все смешно, начиная с причины, по которой он преследует героиню: еще ребенком она по случайности стала причиной дорожной аварии, в которой погибла его семья в составе супруги и новорожденного. А он еще и в тюрьму почему-то за это сел, и свою ненависть к десятилетке нес солидные 15 лет. Но когда повзрослевшая героиня (мастер кунг-фу, похоже) набила ему рожу голыми кулаками, он немного смягчился и открыл ей свою обидку. Оба друг друга поняли и простили, а потом началось что-то из Мулан: он ее обучал махать кулаками (показанных ранее навыков оказалось недостаточно) и стрелять по пивным бутылкам, в общем, делал из нее настоящего мужика. И жили они вместе счастливо на какой-то заброшенной фабрике, пока на голову не свалились бывшие дилеры, армия спецназа, начальник местной закусочной и пьяный батя.

В итоге получилось смешно, но любопытно.

This game is an absolute dumpster fire with a beautiful soundtrack. I really, really wanted to like it, because I like the work of many of the musicians involved. But it's awful. Think Superman 64 levels of bad.

-The physics frequently don't work. For example, at multiple points during scenes of running or driving, my character or their vehicle would get stuck and be unable to move/climb/drive.

-The game mechanics are a mess. Fights can be easily won by pushing someone into a corner and spamming the punch button. The QTEs aren't telegraphed at all, and the visual difference between indicators [hold vs press once] isn't easily discernible when you need to react quickly.

-Basic words in both the subtitles and lyrics are frequently misspelled, and some sentences are worded like they are poor translations. And some of the writing is laughably bad - for instance, a drug dealer who has a list of customers titled something like "drug money from drug buyers". The kind of stuff you'd expect in a parody.

-Glitches abound. Be careful checking your collectibles on the menu, for instance - you might crash the game, or end up with a collectible covering the screen even after you've exited the collectibles menu.

-The storytelling is horrifically bad. It's really unclear why in the world a guy who got into a car wreck to avoid hitting you then went to jail for it. And it seems like he comes after you years later for revenge, but then has a change of heart for... no clear reason? And then he kills your drug dealer - which, fine, ok. But then you're expected to shoot the police to keep this guy - who kidnapped you - from going to jail. And then the third act does stuff like drop you in the diner where you used to work with a gun and hostages, acting like there needs to be no explanation for why you'd do that. That's not to say these plot bits couldn't work with good explanations, fleshing out the characters, giving everyone motivation... but the game doesn't do this.

...there's so much more. Honestly, I'm really sad about it, because I had been looking forward to this game, and hoping that it could show of some great new possibilities for how to experience an album. Instead, it just made me jump back and forth between laughing, screaming at the ridiculous decisions, cringing at the dialogue, and wanting to throw my computer across the room because of shonky controls.

Do not buy. Stay far away.

Before buying it, keep in mind that
a) it's a really short game, but with different possible endings.
b) you might have to deal with motion sickness, maybe having a break every now and then.
c) controls aren't optimized. I found them okay tho.
d) the story is quite intense, might be displeasing / uncomfortable for some players.
e) expect to not be able to explore freely. Time is always limited and depends on the songs playing.

But the way how everything matches and plays together, does turn this game into an artwork; an intense experience with lots of emotions involved.

One of the most unique games out there today. The album/soundtrack is fabulous, and the story, even though - or probably because - it is so tragic, is addictive.

It's absurd - even though I have only 3.2 hours of gameplay so far, I've spent so much time watching walkthrough videos and the game store's pre-recorded stream of act I over and over again, listening to the music and learning how to complete the objectives.

So in fact I have spent dozens of hours watching those videos and listening to the music, and obviously the music and the story kept filling my mind throughout the ~12 days since the game release.

I do agree the gameplay mechanics (fighting and QTEs) need to be improved, but in my opinion it doesn't affect the overall experience, which is a blast.

I would give this game 9.9/10.

I'm very torn on this game, it has some very interesting ideas, and overall I enjoyed the music, but it may not appeal to some.

My "yes" recommendation is made on some of what's there but also potential if things get ironed out or otherwise improved. The caveats are listed below.

[*] The levels almost all set to songs, at the end of that song, things will continue if you're ready or not. (There is a level restart option if you want to do a recon first). The timer also continues (as does the song) during cutscenes. This can be frustrating if you're coming from an adventure game angle.
[*] The plot does not make much sense. (I may just be missing something but motivations/stuff that happens is very... arbitrary and, occasionally, weird.) This bugs me quite a bit.
[*] There are some bugs that I'm hoping will get fixed. Some of them can block progress. (As of the initial release.)
[*] If you are not into metal/hard rock music you will likely not have a good time. Watch the trailer and see if you're liking the sound of the music first. Unlike a lot of games, the music is an integral part of the game.

Большое разочарование. Искренне не понимаю, почему практически все отзывы положительные. Проект абсолютно сырой.
Плюсы:
- Музыка. Она действительно отличная и на ней держится вообще всё. Заглавная тема так вообще отличная!
- Задумка. Игра-мюзикл ещё и пересказывающая историю о "Красавице и Чудовище" в мрачном и брутальном стиле. Ну необычно же!
- Некоторые визуальные образы. Не смотря на простоту графики, некоторые сцены всё же запомнились и как идея - они крутые.
Минус:
Вообще всё остальное.
- Графика. Наименьшая проблема игры, справедливости ради. И это не главное и это можно простить, но всё же герои прямо очень деревянные и нелепые.
- Сюжет. Довольно дёрганное нечто, которое довольно тяжело воспринимать. История летит просто на бешеной скорости и осознать что-то очень тяжело, т.к. все сцены длятся на строго в течении одного трека, а это 3 - 10 минут максимум. Причём кроме самого самого начала, все диалоги - это песни. И расслышать слова порой очень тяжело. И это не было бы проблемой, если бы на прослушивании музыки можно было хоть каплю сконцентрироваться.
- Геймплей. Вы ничего не успеваете. Игра наваливает на вас 100500 задач, при этом времени на их решение у вас 3-10 минут, как я и сказала выше. Ни минутой больше. Т.е. вы должны сориентироваться на местности, найти что-то, решить какую-то головоломку и успевать при этом слушать песню. А абсолютно кривое управление, где условный маленький ключ нужно реально "выцеливать", чтобы взять, только добавляет веселья. Регулярно я просто не понимала, что от меня игра вообще хочет (например с разливом кофе в кафе. Я не поняла что им тоже нужно "целится", потеряла время и зафейлила), просто потому что времени слишком мало.
Отдельного упоминания заслуживает БОЁВКА. Да-да, вы не ослышались. Это действо, когда два кривых болвана с каменными лицами дубасят друг друга. Хуже только местная стрельба. Вот у меня только один вопрос: это зачем вообще нужно?.. Кто решил, что этой игре нужна "боёвка"?..

- Баги. Я улетала за карту, застревала в текстурах, квестовые предметы "ломались" и я фейлила, при этом понимая, что нужно делать. Это очень и очень сырой продукт. А если вам нужно перезапуститься из-за бага, то всё начнётся с начала трека и всё по новой.

Просто обидно за растраченный потенциал. Саундтрек к покупке рекомендую, но саму игру - увы, но нет.

It's been a long while since I was last carried away into the plot of a game!
I'm not a big fan of metal music. But the combination of the music with the story plus the gameplay creates an overwhelming emotional experience, which made me make decisions in the game with pure excitement!

I have already finished the game, but without a doubt, I am interested in playing it from the beginning in the hope of acting this time by logic and not by emotion. In order to finish it at the end more optimistic than how I finished it for the first time.

I really recommend this game/music experience even if you do not connect to this style of music, as I already said the combination of music in this game is perfect !!!

Accidentaly wrote it as a comment, but...Wow.......What a great soundtrack for a game. There were moments were I could just sit back and vibe with the music. I wish sometimes there were a bit more time, or maybe a bit more guidance on where to find things, since everything is time based in the game, it was hard to explore when your'e busy chasing the clock all the time. On top of everything - this was such a great experience. I hope they make it into a genre and make more albums this way.

This game is like nothing else out there, so it's hard to write a review, but I'll try.
I loved the music and the way it interacts with the visuals and rooted in the story (or the other way around). From the start, the sound gripped all of my attention, made me stay alert and I HAD to know what happens next. Where will this unforgiving game take me and do to me. For 2 hours my body was in a "fight or flight" kind of state. Since the story is all about trauma, I think it's very fitting.
Some parts of this dark journey left me with shivers and sort of "punch in a stomach" kind of emptiness. In the best way art can.
The puzzles were hard and it contributed to the sense of urgency I was experiencing.
I would definitely recommend this game. For it's uniqueness, music and innovation.

Great game! Love the interactive controls and way you are able to make your own choices that affect the gameplay completely. Its beautiful soundtrack really gives the sensation that you're inside the game. Now to be fair, I have been waiting for this game for a long time. When i first got wind of it I read up on it and tried the demo. For me it was something new, something else, something different. That attracted me. Then to top it off it is a merge between music/metal album and a story driven game. What not to love was my initial assessment. I have now played 103 minutes and I am not finished, just finished act 2 but felt the need to write something. I love this game and the story and the music.

It is hard to (for me anyway) to win the fights or to complete all tasks in the time provided. ( us older peeps should get more time! :)) but I like that. Some games are just too easy. Game mechanics are simple but hard to master (again for me) You younger ones would for sure grasp this faster and with more ease.

For those of you that are wondering if this is something up your alley. Do you want to play something different, experience something original`? if your answer is yes, buy this game.

For in my eyes this is a truely original game. I have played a lot of games over the years and there are so many good ones out there but many do intersect and resemble eachother. which to be fair is and can be a good thing, it isnt meant as anything negative. Though this game I cant say i have played anything quite like it. the merge between the music and the game, the quality of the music, how the makers of the game has been able to build a story that is quite dark but also has light and how that story together with the music gives me goosebumps..... cant remember when a game did that so sincere.

For those of you that buy the game I hope you will experience the same as i have.

游戏玩法的创新值得肯定，至少这玩法我是第一次见，非常有新意。与其说是个互动专辑，不如说是个互动音乐剧，因为游戏中的台词都是唱出来的（因此我建议有一定英语水平的人玩这游戏，听不懂歌词真的是一大损失，哪怕开歌词字幕也没那味道了），人物的情感波动也与音乐结合得恰到好处。但要注意，这并不是一个典型的音游，更接近一个以音乐为导向的动作解谜游戏。

游戏的剧情会随着音乐自动发展，而玩家需要在期间做出选择/找道具/解谜/完成动作场景等，结局由玩家做出的选择决定。玩家的任何行动都是有时限的，因为音乐可不会等玩家。实际上，游戏的时间限制非常紧，时间不够用是常事，这也导致游戏过程中经常因为来不及完成一个想完成的行动而令玩家产生沮丧感。从另一方面来说，这游戏是不会game over的，哪怕玩家什么都不做剧情也会自动推进，只不过玩家会对故事的走向丧失控制力罢了——虽然说令玩家丧失控制感是游戏的大忌。我觉得玩这游戏的时候，可能主动放弃对剧情的控制欲才是避免自己被持续性的负面反馈干扰的唯一方法，而这种放弃对剧情的控制却又与游戏希望让玩家做出选择的本意相违背。——说了这么多绕口的话，其实我想表达的意思就是：游戏玩法的创意很棒，但实现起来比较糟糕，因此尽量不要去纠结于玩法可以让自己获得相对更好的游戏体验。

剧情总体而言是个悲剧，是朋克精神的一次短暂而强烈的释放，整个剧情给我一种强烈的失控感（虽然很难说这失控感里有几成是游戏的玩法带给我的）。前期的剧情的确非常莫名其妙，但是从中期开始脉络就已经很明朗了，应该没有什么难懂的地方。虽然说游戏中途有几关确实让人有点不适，但是玩到结局我才发现这游戏其实三观还算正常。

整个游戏玩下来我想到的就是2077的银手——一个飞蛾扑火的朋克，一个理想主义者，也是一个穷凶极恶的罪犯，在一首首金属乐中，在一串迷幻的fever dreams中，走向失控与毁灭。（我不知道这游戏有没有GE，但是我打出的这个应该算是BE的结局也非常令我满意了，这是一个大团圆结局反而会倒扣分的游戏）

总而言之，虽然游戏玩法上比较残念，但是作为一款艺术品级的游戏，它的质量无疑是优秀的。

挺新奇的一款用音乐推动进程的游戏，有利有弊吧。因为每首歌有时长，因此每一关的解密和找东西就有了时间限制，基本上第一次玩不可能找到全部线索，就不得不被强行推进剧情。个人认为这个设计其实还好，在多次游玩之后就会对物品位置了然于心。说到重复游玩的问题，希望制作组可以加上跳过的功能，不然每次都要看重复的剧情，真的很让人厌烦。
说回故事，这部作品的四个结局其实都挺黑暗的，没有真正意义上的好结局。女主是一个生活被毁掉的年轻人。[spoiler] 老板混蛋，男友毒贩，父亲酒鬼。 [/spoiler] 无意间遇到了一个陌生的男人，那个男人似乎认识女主，然而女主只觉得他面熟却想不起来在哪里见过。通过故事的推进，女主渐渐发现了隐藏在这个陌生男人背后的故事，以及过程中自己的心理也在逐渐发生着变化。玩家将会决定故事的走向和结局的不同。
音乐确实优秀，每首歌都很好听，风格也很贴合人物的性格，通关以后像是看了一场音乐剧，很棒。
不过关于第三个结局我确实是没有看懂，那个结局到底是个什么意思？？？[spoiler] 斯德哥尔摩综合征？ [/spoiler]

What an experience!! truly unique and engaging.

So i ticked yes because there is no maybe button, it is good but the controls and being on a timer was causing stress but other than that the music is amazing and i don't think I've come across a musical in a game before. If they get rid of the timer so you have time to look for things, then this game would be amazing.

Just finished a run with the game! The music is top-notch and level design really conveys the atmosphere of each song. I especially liked levels that were more abstract, that shows Gitta's subconscious and past memories. It was a very unique way to experience a music album, and I believe I'll return to it for a replay to try and catch things I've missed in my first run, now that I know the context behind it.

Absolutely disappointing, quite possibly one of the worst games I've played on Steam. It's not even a metal album until about halfway in, and after that it's a poorly made jankfest with bland symphonic metal in the background. Perhaps it could've passed as one of those 'so bad it's good' games, but in this case it's just bad.

After 30-40 minutes of playing this game I thought it would be sufficient enough time to leave a review.

The concept of the story is interesting especially with the main character being a drug addict because the hallucinations add another layer of detail. Of Bird and Cage utilizes the old school concept of suspense and suggestion for the danger/scare aspect. This is similar to how old school horror movies or the horror short stories of Edgar Allen Poe, think Pit & The Pendulum, work to draw audiences in. Overall I find this to be a solid concept and look forward to playing more in the future.

Considering this is far outside my genre of normal games (JRPGs, Mario, Zelda, etc.) I think a follow up review would be appropriate after additional play time but didn't want to let my initial impression of the game slip through my fingers

Esse jogo... O que falar desse jogo? É bem difícil falar dele sem acidentalmente contar algum spoiller. Por isso vou tentar me ater a como foi minha experiencia geral e não revelarei aqui enredo, história ou coisas assim ok?

Com certeza absoluta, o final surpreende bastante, Joguei esse jogo sem muitas expectativas por saber ser um jogo indie. A medida que fui jogando, fui entendendo melhor a mecânica e como lidar com algumas situações (posso dizer que a evolução é gradativa).

Esse jogo me deixou pensativo do começo ao fim, acompanhar a trajetória de Gitta, é uma viagem surreal por fantasmas do passado e traumas do presente. Entender como a personagem lida com as escolhas que faz, é a cereja do bolo desse jogo Pois ao finalizar (pelo menos para mim) o replay é garantido pois quero entender melhor algumas coisas como lidar com outros personagens de formas diferentes etc...

A proposta a que esse jogo se propõe, foi o que me fez compra-lo e testa-lo e quanto a isso, minhas expectativas foram mega bem atendidas. m jogo curto, com uma proposta diferente (Jogar um álbum de musica de gênero melody metal) é muito interessante como a imersão desse jogo é instantânea apos passar do tutorial e começar a primeira musica. A produção musical desse jogo é tão boa e imersiva que a sua set list ja faz parte da minha biblioteca do Spotify rs

Se posso destacar algum ponto positivo além da maravilhosa trilha musical, com certeza é a história. Uma história simples, porém envolvente que te surpreende em vários pontos cahves de forma bem interessante. Com certeza, quem jogar esse jogo, terá uma experiência diferente alem de um mero gameplay indie...

OBC, é um daqueles jogos que você compra sem esperar muita coisa, se suurpreende e guarda na estante com carinho. Um jogo rápido que se termina em 3 horas porém possui formas diferentes de resoluções fortalecendo assim, o replay.

Eu com certeza indico esse jogo a você que aprecia um bom trabalho inde com trilha envolvente, ou com uma ótima historia nada forçada e original. Também indico a você, que está cansado de jogar sempre os mesmos jogos e tem 3 horas para matar (bem melhor que mito filme recente da Netflix por ai). Indico a você que sempre viaja ouvindo musicas se imaginando nelas (entenda esse jogo como um "grande clipe musical interativo, imersivo e divertido"

Por se tratar de um jogo indie e low budget, é claro que os gráficos não são os melhores da geração (não espere um red Dead, Last of Us ou The Witcher em níveis gráficos aqui) porem, mesmo com esse detalhe volto a dizer que VALE A PENA SER JOGADO.

Well boys and girls, remember how video killed the radio star? Well, video better be on notice.

This isn't really a game, this is an interactive listening experience, accompanying the very well crafted musical album, to such an effective extent that it should easily appeal to audience usually outside the regular target of such a musical genre.

As such, there is almost too much to do, with all the different mechanics and quick time events, but it does allow for high replay value, with not only multiple endings, but also what seems to be multiple different paths to get there.

You should definitely give it a spin, even if just so you could say you've been there when the revolution started.

Doporučuji, hlavně pro ten koncept. Kdy, kde, kdo představil nové CD hrou?!
Nepopsala bych to jinak než jako interaktivní muzikál. Takže, než se do toho pustíte - máte rádi metal? Protože jestli ne, určitě bych koupi zvážila. Hra jako sama o sobě, eeee, nic moc . Musíte si uvědomit, že jde hlavně o to, navodit Vám atmosféru a trošku vizualizovat to, co zrovna slyšíme. Hudba je nepřekonatelná a to vlastně převažuje všechny herní mínusy aka - hratelnost, čas (časomíra je v podobě právě hraných skladeb - jako nápad ideální ale herně nepraktické), grafika a tak dále, vlastně to, co většinově na hrách primárně hodnotíme.
Ale znovu opakuji. TOHLE NENÍ HRA. :D JE TO HUDEBNÍ PROJEKT, představený hrou.
Cena je za cd velice dobrá + trochu toho hraní.
Za mě super.

想了想，还是给好评吧，音乐十分优秀以至于没几句台词，全靠歌曲和镜头表现剧情了，我打出来的是c结局也就是第三个结局，单说这个结局，很让人摸不到头脑，而且前两章差不多就能猜出真相剧情来了，后面就是纯做选择了，人物模型粗糙的像奇异人生1，解密全部都是限时，有的场景我连探索的时间都不够，还解密呢解个寄吧。给你一首歌的时间让你解密，真服了。玩起来就像是劣质的艾迪芬奇的记忆+奇异人生+底特律，可以看出借鉴了这仨游戏不少，但是组合起来就怪怪的。
虽然是好评，不过建议慎重购买。

when i saw the demo version of the game i knew that the music is going to be good but now when ive played the game i truly see how amazing it is. theres a list of good things about this game but ill name my favorites. first of all the attention for details is really noticable and this gives better vibes to the game secend of all i liked the fact that you really needs to be a fast thinker to actually do something in this game in conclusion i truly belive that anyone would like this game(especially metalheads) and i absolutely recommend it

That's definitely a unique way to deliver a music album! You see the story's progression through the music itself. It really takes off during the second act game which both looks great visually and provides more depth to the characters and the past experiences. What you're really buying here and appropriately priced as such is a fairly decent metal album with a game thrown in. I really love the idea of a music driven story game and what's presented here is enjoyable and I appreciate all the collectables and multiple endings giving reason to replay the game.

However aside from the stellar music the gameplay could use considerable improvements. I found the movement to feel slow and the controls could be clumsy with opening doors, combat and the driving segments feeling particular unfun.

The graphics for the environment are pretty good but the characters look pretty poor in comparison and their animations could be further refined. I'd also like further options such as being able to rebind keys or lock the game to a target framerate.

In summary I recommend this as an interactive music album where the music makes up for the frustrating at times gameplay.

Good story progression,
For you crazy gamers that like to 100% everything there are collectables and puzzles and things to keep you busy :)
For sure the music is good in this game and integrates with the story very well.

I went through the first run of this game and reached one ending and would love to play it more soon and change choices and see what other mischief and results I can get from doing things differently.

I caught myself staring at the monitor to see what happens in silence, I caught myself headbanging to the music while listening to the lyrics to understand who is who and what's going on!

Overall I would recommend this game and I have enjoyed my first run and I'm sure I will enjoy the following ones as well to see what other endings I can get :D

Hands down, one of the best, most twisted games (in a good way!) I've ever played. A game which as actually a music album experienced as a video game - for a start, is just awesome. The music - one of the best metal albums I've heard. On top of that, there is a really really dark story that gave me the chills at the very beginning of the game. I enjoyed every second of it. It's really more than just a game. It's an experience which I highly recommend everyone \m/

游戏不错，音乐动听，游戏关卡设计一塌糊涂，场景的物品规划很难让一个一周目玩家能在短时间找到所有环境解密所需道具，环境解密，你必须细心又有耐性的去观察寻找，但是由于有那短短1分钟左右的解密时间限制，作为一个玩家观察环境就没有那么的细致，从而可能找不到所有的解密道具或你找到了但是时间已经见红了，当然你找不出也没事但剧情走向就不是你要走的了，这让就会导致剧情走向灭亡或者救赎。.第二被那个男的丢后备箱后，，跑路关卡，搬箱子翻墙，结果怎么跳都跳不过那墙，是BUG吗？但附近除了箱子就没有物品可互动了，，环境解密时间限制和bug，两个元素加起来让我强行看黑暗剧情将是我唯一对这游戏给出差评的理由.虽然这游戏主打就是黑暗剧情，但你给我选择，能不能友好一点，环境解密，你限时间，到了打架，自己打对方像打铁，别人打我像打泥巴，几拳就强制我输，，我打几拳结果对方什么伤害都好像没有一样，原价买就是个垃圾游戏不值，，打折-50可考虑，我先退款了
