Game is difficult, but not due to interesting design choices, but due to sheer randomness and lack of information being presented to the player. To maximise your chances, you are forced to continually look things up or memorise the outcomes of every event.

Even when information is presented, the interface is convoluted, forcing you to click several times to see basic information and do basic actions.

A fresh and interesting take on roguelike deckbuilding lane battlers. Your cards are "followers" (individual people, robots and animals) and will die permanently if they get destroyed twice (they can be healed intermittently). This means the game is quite complex, with you having to juggle positioning on a board; order of attack (in general only frontline units can attack or be attacked); different bonuses, triggers and traps; in addition to the regular "Slay the spire-esque" gameplay with energy ("mana"), card draw et cetera. On top of this, there is a travel phase where you need to keep track of food, hope, currency and also three different "reputation tracks".

Did I mention you have *two* decks, one for your units and one for your spells? And there are battlefield abilities.

This leads, as stated, to a very interesting gameplay, but also a pretty high difficulty just due to the complexity. This makes the lack of an undo button a bit of a problem, since it's SO many things to keep track of, you are bound to make mistakes, not due to lack of skill, but rather due to you forgetting something thats visible. Unfortunately, the developer stated that an undo-button wouldn't be implemented, but a lower difficulty option is in the works (there are three difficulty levels at time of writing - March 2026).

However, to my surprise I managed to win my first run (on the lowest difficulty setting), something that I haven't done in any other similar game. My run took about 6 hours. So, apparently, in a way, you could argue that the game isn't necessarily "hard", it's just very complex.

All in all, if it seems like your cup of tea, the quality of the game is good, and worth yof a recommendation. but it's nothing to play just to relax; and losing a run after 5 hours because of a miss-click or similar would feel devestating.

Let me start with the conclusion: this game brings an extremely unbearable sense of frustration. As a deck-building game, it does not allow you to choose specific units. You can only buy them in the shop, and the options are very limited. The number of rare or powerful units available to the player is small, and units die permanently, which leaves very little room for mistakes. It’s basically impossible to build a consistent strategy or archetype.

Meanwhile, the opponent—or rather the AI—can easily tailor its deck to counter you, using all kinds of annoying tactics. The most important point is that the game has no rewind or rollback feature. This means you only get one chance; if you fail, you have to start over completely. Even quit in the middle of a battle and reload the game is not work.

With all these layers of malice stacked together, it feels as if the developers have a personal grudge against the players. Even Silksong and Elden Ring never made me lose my temper ，but this one succeeded.

To hell with you, developers.

Nowhere Prophet is one of my favorite games. It bothers me that it has so many lukewarm and frustrated reviews, many of which seem to have been written before the game was finished being balanced. I will agree that it takes a significant investment of time and practice to understand the game's complex, opaque, and unforgiving mechanics. It is worth it, though. This is a unique experience that is designed to challenge and thrill the player through intense combat where each choice has consequences.

There was a lot of thought and care that went into the world of the game, which is unlike anything else. The closest comparisons are maybe Caves of Qud or Road Warden. The latter game is actually a good comparison. They both have text-heavy event nodes where you have to decide how to navigate local politics, economies, and inter-faction warfare. Here you're also working on building your army and supplying your caravan so that you can survive the gauntlet of enemy encounters on the way to your destination.

The combat in the game is as good as it gets. You have to manage your army carefully because a unit that dies in combat will be wounded. If you choose to bring them into battle again and they die, they are gone forever*. This is going to be difficult for a lot of people. You will lose your favorite units, but you will get plenty of new ones. The wound system means that your army is in constant flux. You need to be using every unit you have, even if you don't love their powers, and figure out synergies on the fly to keep up with your enemy.

The variety of player units in the game is wide. The strategy is deep. There are some core themes but the dev had a lot of fun exploring different permutations and synergies of unit abilities. Units have more flair and personality than your average game, but not even individually you want to hold a funeral for them when they inevitably die. There are also buffs you get from resources, an equipment system that gives you special cards, and a second deck of leader cards (like spells) that you craft over the course of the game.

The systems overlap in complex and novel ways. The challenge is real, but it's not unfair. I never felt compelled to push myself super hard into the upper difficulty zones. I don't think it has the balance sensibility of a Slay the Spire. It's a bit more like Caves of Qud, a little swingy and spiky with often-insurmountable obstacles. There's so much going on that when things go sideways you can see the mistakes that led you to your death but there can be an element of unpredictable chaos that seems not unfair exactly, but unavoidable.

Even after beating the Nowhere Prophet many times, I still find the leader/faction choices overwhelming. There are multiple overlapping pressures placed on you from scarce resources starting immediately after you set out on your journey. I found it hard to parse visually when I first started. I'm used to the stylized graphics now but I wouldn't say they're beautiful. The longer I've played, the more everything makes sense and the more I love it.

Not to gatekeep, but this is an intermediate-to-expert-level deckbuilder. It's complicated, harsh, and punishing. The more experience you have with roguelite deckbuilders and strategy games, the more you will get out of this game. If you are willing to put in the time and get into the spirit of the game, it is deeply satisfying and fun. The dev's new game Crownbreakers just released a demo, which I'm enjoying while I also dip back into Nowhere Prophet for a taste of that sweet chaos

Definitely start on easy mode, because the game doesn't pull its punches and it plays differently to a lot of deckbuilders out there.

That said, this game slaps. You can change your deck composition freely, but each unit card is one of your pilgrims, and they suffer injuries or outright death if they die on the board. You can heal injuries before your units are removed from the deck, but injuries also reduce their energy cost, so you'll constantly be balancing how much you need certain units in play and how afraid you are of them dying. You'll lose people, you'll gain people, and you'll manage your deck as best as possible within that as it mutates to reflect what you have available.

The aesthetics and flavour are just as rad. The strategy layer takes heavy inspiration from FTL, letting you double back and explore the world as long as your supplies permit. When you do, you're rewarded with relatively short flavour snippets that ooze lost technology, mysticism, compassion and weirdness. Once you complete your pilgrimage there's a remarkably high number of endings depending on what you do. There's just enough flavour to intrigue and not so much of it that it wears out its welcome.

At 9 hours of playtime I don't know if it will hold up forever, but so far it might be my favourite game in the genre. Feel it out, approach your early defeats with a sense of curiosity and you'll (I hope) have a wonderful time.

It pains me to give it a negative review. Because this game does a lot of right things (setting, art, music), but the core gameplay and design choices are not on par with the good deckbuilders out here. So I think it's a mistake to compare this game to StS or MT. This one is not as polished, not as balanced, and I will try to explain why without spoilers.

The bugs

Too many to count, cards that simply will not interact with others (the one that adds damage to another attack card simply won't work with the 8x2 damage card while it will on the others), tokens becoming cards when returned to hand, cards disappearing when supposed to return to hand but hand is full, having no control which ones are added to your hand and the ones that disappear; cards and/or effects that will or not trigger when your hand is full and their effect implies adding/drawing cards, leaving you to doubt. And speaking of doubt...

The RNG

It's all over the place, the procedurally generated maps can be a mess with few resources or a resource fest regardless of difficulty. This has a culprit, random events. They can happen between two locations. They are very, well, random. It could be a fight, you can get resources, lose them, you have no agency. The fights are also random, sometimes its a breeze, sometimes you get heavy losses. On harder modes the opponent's leader deck is filled with rare and legendary cards. And speaking of opponents...

The design choices

The game simply refuses to give you any form of intel. You only know what is the faction you are fighting against. And that should be enough, right? Nope, because they will have cards from different factions, they have leader cards from different leaders, all mixed up. Sometimes it even feels like they topdeck the exact answer to what you have set on field, But how could I know? You never get to see their decks, ever. The only fights you can prepare are from the fixed events that you may or not find in special locations. And the last fight. Other than that, it's all luck, and you're on your own.

Conclusion

So the problems will stack up in a way that they will take away a lot of player agency. It really isn't up to you. Bad map seeds and lack of favorable events will net you a game loss just for trying to play. Fights are too random, and avoiding them will only mean less resources. When card interaction gets complex the bugs will show up. This game needed more cooking and was clearly left in a state I cannot recommend. These are issues that could be adressed and fixed. And they won't since Dev moved on to another project.

I initially rated this game a "no recommendation," but changed my mind after I played it some more. It is very difficult, and luck plays a tremendous role in whether you will win or lose (and that still leaves me a little lukewarm).....
.....but it is clear a lot of thought has gone into this game. Its challenges will keep you coming back. The art is fantastic and the background world is part of the charm of the game.

In short, I'd like to hate it, but I have to give it grudging respect. Just be prepared to invest a little effort before you begin to appreciate this game.

Nowhere Prophet dared to ask the question that no one else would ask: What if we made Hearthstone fun?
The game is set on the post-apocalyptic world of Soma, a planet that was once home to a highly technological civilization but an event only called "the Crash" has rendered most technology unusable. This led to a collapse of society and now the different factions fight over what little resources and usable technology the planet has left.

You play as a technopath, someone who can communicate with machines. Your ability allows you to locate a fallen satellite which gives you the location of an old bunker that supposedly contains a vast amount of resources but more importantely, old technology that is still working fine.
Together with a convoy of followers you start the dangerous journey to that location as the new prophet.

The gameplay of Nowhere Prophet is a mix between survival management and a roguelike-deckbuilder. You lead your convoy through different regions, each having their own map with various paths, locations and dangers. On the map you have to decide which paths to navigate, selecting a node to move to. Moving on the map consumes food and hope, if you lack either of those you start to lose followers. Nodes can contain fights, resources or markets. Some nodes, especially markets, are revealed during the start of a region but others stay obscured so you don't know what you will find there. As long as you have rations you can move around the map as you like, there is no strict "only go up" like in other deckbuilders. This is useful if you see a node with important resources that you want go back to.
In markets you can buy new followers, equipment for your prophet or luxury items that can be shared with your convoy to increase hope and provide a temporary buff for your next battle.
The currency for buying things are batteries which are useful since they can power up old machines and gadgets. You get those from battles but also when you sell trade goods that you often find during your travels.

I mentioned followers and battles but haven't addressed the combat yet. Combat in Nowhere Prophet is a card game with positioning. Each leader has a field with multiple rows and columns and you can place followers on the field to fight for you. Followers have health and attack power and can attack either enemy followers or the enemy leader directly unless they have a follower with taunt which has to be attacked first. What is interesting here is that both leaders have actually two decks, the follower deck for your units and the leader deck for your spells. This is one of the best parts of the game. Because you have two seperate decks from which you draw cards each turn, you always have a unit and a spell on your hand. The hand limit is also seperate for the two decks, so being full on followers does not mean you cannot draw spells anymore.
Both of these decks can be managed individually between combat, the follower deck can be filled with any follower from your convoy and you can freely exchange cards between combat. The leader deck contains cards that your leader learns once he levels up, each level up allows you to put a new card in your deck but unlike your follower deck you cannot simply remove cards, instead you have to spend points that you get when you level up. This means you have to be more careful what you put in your leader deck because you might not be able to remove it later.

Followers that get destroyed during battle get something called " a wound". That follower now has permanently -1 health but also costs one energy less to play. Losing a wounded follower in battle will kill them which removes them permanently from your convoy. This is best avoided or you will eventually run out of followers for your deck. This means you will have a more fluid deck in which you move followers in and out of the deck depending on who is wounded and who is healthy. If a follower manages to finish off the enemy leader and win you the battle they gain a blessing instead. This increases their attack damage by 1 and will also remove the wound if they had one.
Wounded followers and any damage your prophet has sustained during basttles can be healed in camp sites, usually at markets but some camp sites can be found on the map. This costs food however and you onmly have a limited amount of usages for healing, so management is key again.

Some battles will drop equipment or alternatively you can buy it from markets. Your prophet can equip weapons and various other goods. Weapons unlock an attack action for your prophet that he can use once per battle while other goods provide passive bonuses like armor or special effects. Higher levels of your prophet allow you to equip more and the right equipment can turn a battle in your favour. Alternatively you can dismantle equipment which gives you a new leader card for your leader deck.

In some occassions you will have events, either on the map or inside markets. These events have random chances to have a positive outcome. In some events a follower can be used to increase the chances in your favour but you take the risk that you could wound or even lose the follower. In other cases you may instead use one of the different convoy stats to get a positive result. Your convoy can gain various stats depending on their actions. Altruism is rewarded if you help other people even in desperate times and high altruism will inspire others to help you. Scholar means your convoy seeks knowledge and helps you to discover secrets and other stuff. Believer signifies a more spiritual convoy that can be used to persuade other religious people.
There can be other traits and stats achieved for your convoy depending on various secret actions like the cannibal trait which gives you food when followers die. I won't spoil how you get this trait.

The game has a variety of different convoys and prophets to choose from. The Outcastes, your starting convoy, is a mix of different followers with allrounders that are useful through the entire game and very flexible to play. The Firebrand, one of the playable prophets, focuses on buffs and dealing damage. You can freely combine any convoy with any prophet. Unlocking new convoys and prophets takes however a lot of effort. Each convoy also has four passive powers that need to be unlocked first by grinding various tasks. These passive bonuses are meant to gfive you an easier time in various situations, for example the outcastes will start with 10 altruism which allows them to get more favourable outcomes in some events.

One thing I want to mention is how well designed the game world and lore is. The world of Soma houses various factions which you will meet during your travels. The Blue Devils for example are a group of infected people that work as mercenaries. They are more resilent thanks to their infection but will eventually die to it.
The aesthetic of the game world is inspired by indian culture, something that is very rare in the gaming world and a welcome change to the usual depiction of western culture.

That being said, while I love this game, I have to say that it's extremely hard. Because you can permanently lose cards from your deck by just doing battles, you can brick yourself and lose a run. A single battle could be devastating because you lost too many followers. The concept promotes a playstyle in which you would play carefully and save your followers but in reality the best strategy is to play aggressive and finish fights as fast as possible and just replace followers that died.
Because this isn't clear to the player, they will most likely try to keep their units allive and dance around the enemy but then lose more because they get overwhelmed.

That being said, give this game a try if you want to play a deckbuilder that forces you to take risks and does not hold your hand.

Game is tough as ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nails, but wow it never seizes to be fun. Every run feels different, the stakes are high, each choice counts. Unpredictable and unfair, but the better you get to know the game, the more resilient you become against the (potential) ♥♥♥♥ it throws at you.
For me personally this keeps the game very engaging, for you never know exactly what is going to be thrown your way and how you will use your limited resources to survive. And when you get yourself out of yet another seemingly impossible situation, you feel incredibly accomplished. Admittedly, I've never reached the end of the campaign on normal difficulty. But I keep getting very close, and I'll be damned if I won't keep trying. Thrilling experience for anyone who likes to wrestle themselves out of very deep waters.

Review: Good for an unpolished, borderline incomplete game. It feels like there are fairly basic revisions that would have made the game significantly better.
Positives: core gameplay is enjoyable, the combat is generally fun and adding units to your deck is rewarding
Cons: runs aren't varied enough, meta-progression is un-fun an makes it feel like you have to grind for unlocks, the combat scenarios become repetitive, too much text, menus lack speed and are "dirty" at times, pacing / runs take too long

The great thing about slay the spire is that you have so much information. You can prepare for what the enemy is going to throw at you next turn. Nowhere Prophet is the exact opposite. Somehow the enemy seems to always have the exact leader cards needed to screw up your plan. Put a sniper behind cover? of course the enemy leader has a cheap card for destroying obstacles. Put a taunt out to keep a unit safe? they've got either a blackout or a way to push the taunt behind another unit. I am so tired of being blindsided by the enemy leader having some card I've never seen before that perfectly counters me and costs 1 energy.

I liked the idea here I really do. But when you have a serious bug on a legendary card you bought in a deckbuilder, keyboards start to fly.

for those very few interested, a unit with stealth should supposedly be able to attack regardless of position. sadly this is not the case and you can find this out in the worst possible way, before a wipeout.

This game is draining, I spent easily over 20 hours on this game on console attempting to beat it but that never happened. I saw it on sale for steam and thought, "Hey, there's that game again. its been a while maybe they've updated it to be fun?" To that i was sorely wrong.
The game is punishing in a way that i have never seen a game of its type try to do, and probably for a good reason. Whenever one of your followers is prompted to attack an enemy follower it takes damage according to the enemies damage stat. This little feature is the most aggravating quick that could be added to a game and it turns any regular walk in the park encounter into a bout of walking on coals and needles trying to find a spot that wont leave you without feet to stand on. this feature makes it so a 5/4 follower of mine suddenly gets eviscerated by a 4/1 follower that the enemy leader can crank out faster than rabbits multiply, just because i wanted to clear the lane i get punished.
The bosses are a grueling and honestly dreadful experience that could probably make any sensible developer wince. Take the waste of code Lizard King. That ♥♥♥♥♥♥ is the worst thing that could happen to any run ever, get this, the leader has a modifier that when any follower attacks it they take a lethal amount of damage no matter who they are or where they are on the board. This doesn't even consider that the Lizard King cranks out beasts that have an average stat-line of 3/3+ every turn.
The game-play loop for the normal fights is honestly boring unless you get unlucky with your cards then suddenly *SPLAT* you and your whole caravan have been pancaked by 20 beasts in the middle of nowhere because you thought unlikely meant maybe about 30-40% chance when in actuality you could just go ♥♥♥♥ yourself because unlikely means that you'll never see the alternative outcome in a million years.
The shop systems in this game are horrific, only offering a couple of already damaged followers that cost enough to make a poorer prophet weep in despair at how low the world has fallen. The leveling system is decent, or could be decent if it didn't leave you bankrupt every time that you think your ready to progress. The gear in the game is so non-consequential that i think the devs could have made every single piece of equipment do the exact same thing and it wouldn't change the grand outcome.
If you're looking for a game of this type PLEASE do not buy this one unless you are certain that you are an avid player of these games that can use tactical might to play an experience similar to dragging nuts or vaj through shattered and filthy glass.
I recommend the alternatives of WILDFROST (personal pick) or Breachways (Much more niche) or just go buy dredge.

有棋盘要素的类似炉石的rogue卡牌游戏，挺有意思，但卡牌会永久消耗的设计有点破坏游戏设计了。这类deckbuilding的核心应该是创建一套有自己玩法的强大的卡牌。但受到机制的限制，你如果没有足够多的牌，在战斗中最后就会陷入无牌可用的境地，但是如果你的卡组牌太多，又会导致卡组太过臃肿，左右脑互博了属于是。

I honestly really wanted to love this game.
I'm a big fan of rogue-like deck builders, I loved the visuals and the concept the game presents, HOWEVER there's very little strategy or even deck building involved.
The combat is bleak hearthstone esque with permanent damage with it mostly coming down to rush the enemy leader's health down and whomever controls the board in the first few turns wins. I find if you don't get a good hand your will either lose the run or scrape by with massive leader damage and a ton of injured followers which in most cases is a delayed restart.

This tickles something in my brain and is the card game I return to most frequently. Reminds me of magic but with card position as an important factor. I also love the permadeath--I know some people don't think it works out but I think it's still possible to build the type of deck you want to play while accepting that some of your favorite cards are going to die. Also, just an incredible atmosphere. All of the pieces fit together really nicely.

Starts with an interesting idea: what if defeating units could remove them from the game? Having this as the basis of a game would be a clever twist on the genre.

Sadly, they didn't do that.

Instead, there is an eff-you-player version where if you dare to (dramatic gasp) use combat units in combat, the enemy leader can kamikaze their units with zero long term planning. However, if you want to clear their units, you have to consider if you should risk a high value unit, or sacrifice a weak one - you need to plan for the whole campaign, not just this fight.

If you had substantial choices about your starting force and gear, this could work; instead, this is grossly RNG where good strategy is not a guarantee of victory AND you deal with attrition AND the enemy "AI" is erratic and tends to either have the exact cards they need to ruin your plan and does so in a weird order, or is so easy to beat it's boring. One of those could be fun, all three just drains away any reason to play.

The difficulty curve on this game is just whack. I've beaten slay the spire at ascension 20 (hardest possible difficulty) half a dozen times and I find this game intensely frustrating at the easiest difficulty.

Like yes I see that there are ways that I *could* have averted problems with the right combination of cards but the synergies are way too easy to disrupt. So if I luck into the right draws the fights are easy while if I luck into the wrong cards at the wrong time I'm screwed. You have way less ways to manipulate your deck mid battle then in Slay the Spire or Griftlands so a bad draw just means you are up a creek.

It just feels masochistic to me in a way that an a20 run of Slay the Spire does not. I tried this again and again to try to grind through and get a hang for it but actually I've realized nah, it's not worth it.

An interesting mix on the card genre that puts you as a "hero" like commander in charge of a caravan.

The combat is fun, but takes getting used to. Damage to your hero lasts between combat, and units which are lost in combat become injured, injured units are lost when destroyed. Healing is also extremely limited and consumes resources that you may not have to spare.

Combat must be completed quickly in most scenarios. A single bad turn can turn the tide of combat against you causing a massive loss of health and units. While enemies eventually run out of cards, they will likely get in several damaging hits by then, perhaps forcing an end to a run due to lack of recovery.

There is resource management involved as you make your way across the map. Some nodes have events that might help, they might not. Some events might have bonus prompts for having the right units in your caravan, so having variety in your army can help.

Sometimes your caravan gets sick; they might heal magically over night giving you precious Hope, or may get everyone sick and dead.

"Struggling in a Harsh Card Game World."

Nowhere Prophet is a game I was genuinely excited to dive into, especially as a fan of roguelike card games. The premise of surviving harsh conditions, scavenging for resources, and navigating a world in turmoil was unique, and it seemed like a refreshing take on the genre. Unfortunately, my experience quickly took a turn. The gameplay, which I had hoped would offer challenging and engaging survival mechanics, instead felt repetitive and tedious. Each decision and encounter began to feel more like a chore than an adventure, which quickly dulled my excitement.

The combat system was one of the biggest letdowns. Roguelike card games often shine in this area, bringing fast-paced, strategic action to the forefront. However, in Nowhere Prophet, the card mechanics just didn’t deliver. The battles lacked the depth and excitement I’d hoped for, leaving me disengaged and, honestly, a little bored.

The visuals, while serviceable, didn’t do much to add to the experience. Given the game’s unique world and concept, I expected more from the art direction, something that would immerse me in the unforgiving setting. Similarly, the audio fell flat. I was hoping for a soundtrack that would complement the world and heighten the tension, but instead, it felt underwhelming and forgettable.

Overall, Nowhere Prophet just didn’t meet my expectations. After an hour, I found myself bored—a rarity for me as someone who genuinely enjoys this genre. [h2]WELCOME TO SOMA[/h2]
Story-wise, the player takes on the role of a "technopath", a human being who can sense and affect electrical-based energy and technology, in a world that has suffered a technological collapse. Enlightened by visions from a mysterious entity, the technopath begins a journey to reach a sacred place called "the Crypt", supported by a convoy of followers hoping for a better future. Gameplay-wise, this translates into selecting a convoy and a leader (more are unlocked by completing the game and fulfilling specific tasks), visiting various locations of Soma (the planet where the games take place), and choosing your path to the Crypt, along routes that change with each run. Various events and encounters occur during the journey, requiring the player to (1) make decisions or (2) fight enemies, with the possibility of gaining/losing health, followers, resources, and more.

[h2]TACTICAL WOUNDS[/h2]
I'll start from the core component of the game: battles. The general scheme is a well-known one, with two contenders deploying their units on the battlefield and trying to zero the health of the opposing leader. Units have a cost (Energy), attack/defense values (Strength/Life), and they suffer retaliation damage from attacks. Each turn, the contender draws new cards, plays cards without exceeding the cost reserve (Energy cells), and uses friendly units deployed. Before each battle, the player can choose which units participate (max 24), which weapons/tools are equipped (for additional leader powers), and can spend a luxury item for one temporary buff.

Actually, this seemingly familiar formula is enriched by several elements. The battlefield consists of two grids (one per contender) which are usually asymmetrical because of random obstacles, they're of the same size, but size is different at each battle. Units can only attack (and be attacked) in frontline position, otherwise they only "see" the first obstacle/unit in front of them. A unit can attack or move on the grid, but the chosen action will exhaust the unit for that turn (precluding the other action). It's easy to see that unit positioning ends up being crucial, and the abilities/effects of cards are synergical in this respect: for example, a "Sniper" unit can attack regardless of position, so placing it behind an obstacle will protect that unit without compromising attacks; alternatively, placing an obstacle in front of a common enemy unit will prevent their direct attack. By the way, both contenders have two decks at their disposal: the Convoy deck (i.e. the followers, who act actively), and the Leader deck (mostly immediate effects, or constructs that act passively). One card per turn is drawn from both decks, which results in managing two separate hands of cards at once. However, the cost reserve is unique, so you must choose wisely which/how many cards to play from the two hands.

Anyway, the mechanic that stands out the most is the "wound" system: in short, when a follower is destroyed, it is not only removed from the battlefield but also becomes "wounded". Wounded followers cost 1 Energy less than normal, but they also have 1 less Life, and there's more: if a wounded follower gets another wound (during battles or encounters), it is definitely lost and removed from the convoy (that is, you lose that card). For this reason, the player must wisely rotate the convoy cards used in battles, choosing whether to preserve wounded followers or to risk them and take advantage of their reduced cost (in practice, they can be played one turn earlier than normal). In a mirror-like fashion, it's worth mentioning the "blessing" mechanic too: a follower who delivers the final blow to the opponent leader becomes "blessed", and will stay so until it is destroyed (during battles or encounters). When a unit is blessed, it gains +1 Strength and also recovers from wounds, which opens up the possibility of healing a wounded follower "for free" by playing it with the right timing.

Overall, I'd say that battles taste more like a light turn-based tactics game, compared to classic card games.

[h2]UNEXPLORED ROUTES[/h2]
The journey is the other component of Nowhere Prophet. As previously mentioned, almost every move or stop of the convoy involves an encounter: they are random for the most part, but some special stops (the so-called "locations") feature predetermined encounters (usually optional). Encounters ask the player to make one or multiple choices, with various options available, but some are particularly structured so that they also take into account the leader's traits (namely "Believer", "Scholar", and "Altruist"), faction and/or rarity of convoy members, or even previous encounters (much like small quests). Depending on the current state of your leader and convoy, some choices of an encounter may be precluded, while others may have a higher or lower chance of success (not all choices have a sure outcome).

The journey and the encounters are intertwined with the management of the leader and the convoy itself. The leader traits change according to your decisions, and successful encounters/battles increase the leader's "experience" to unlock rarer leader cards and additional slots for equipped items. Visiting locations also serve to recruit new followers, which is essential to have a large and healthy convoy all the time. On the other hand, traveling consumes Food and Hope, which are the two stats associated with the convoy: followers may abandon the prophet (that is, you lose the corresponding cards) if they're starving or demoralized, so it is your duty as a leader to keep up with both (by winning battles/encounters and gathering resources along the way). Not to mention, locations are often on separate routes, so choosing which locations to visit/avoid can make a difference.

[h2]HARD THE TIMES[/h2]
Finally, what is the game like? Honestly: it's difficult, brutal at times, and certainly punishing. This is especially true on medium/hard difficulty, but even easy difficulty is not a walk in the park. It's the kind of game that (1) is unforgiving towards the player, and (2) asks for accepting the chance of unfortunate events putting a spoke in your wheels. In addition, so many things to take into account can be overwhelming for some players, with wounds specifically being both a blessing and a curse (pun not intended), so much so that many negative reviews derive from them.

However, players who embrace the hybrid and difficult nature of Nowhere Prophet will find a solid game. Battles are challenging, and various strategies are possible by combining convoys and leaders. The UI is clear and non-invasive, so that the battlefield is usually "readable" (in a broad sense) at a glance. Encounters are many and different, all well crafted (especially those related to unlockables and mythic followers), so much so that it's quite a shame, them being random. The game has good replayability, also thanks to a couple of extra modes (featuring custom modifiers). The graphic style is original, the game almost looks like a comic: I liked it, but it's a matter of personal taste. On the contrary, the music (few) and sound effects, even though appropriate to the game world, didn't impress me.

Here are some final thoughts, in no particular order: (1) I found the "Revenge" ability less developed compared to the others; (2) I liked the ending, but it might not please the most "refined palates" out there; (3) the "collecting" aspect is secondary, so much so that the in-game compendium does not report the cards yet to find, nor their total number; (4) menus could be organized better; (5) many achievements require pure grinding just for the sake of it.

２個溜まるとアウトです。ユニットが死にます。はい、文字通り死ぬのでデッキから除去されます。
これだけでも中々ハードコアな設定なのですが、戦闘のシステムが更にバランスを悪くしています。
勝利条件は敵のリーダーの体力を０にすることで、プレイヤーは敵ユニットを攻撃するかリーダーを殴るか選べます。
スナイパー特性を持っているユニット以外、マスの最前列のユニットしか攻撃ができません。
ユニットは使用したターンには攻撃できず最初のターンは突撃効果を持っているもの以外置物です。
その後も基本攻撃か他のマス目への移動か１つしか行動がとれません。
もう既にゲームのテンポが恐ろしく悪いことが伝わったと思いますが、更に面倒な能力があります、挑発です。
挑発ユニットがいると挑発ユニットしか殴れません。攻撃すると攻撃された時と同じ扱いなので敵の攻撃力分ダメージが入ります
思い出してください、味方は撃破されると傷を受けて最終的にはデッキから除外されます。
なので基本は挑発ユニットを出される前にアグロデッキ（速攻）のムーブをするのが定石になるのですが
最悪のことにボスキャラの中には頭が悪いほど挑発ユニットを出してくる遅延厨がいます。許せません。
極めつけは挑発ユニットをプレイしたときにそのユニットに１回目のダメージを無効化するバリアを張ってきます。
再三繰り返しますが味方ユニットは死にます。ですが、勝つためには挑発ユニットは無視できません。
デッキに入れられるユニットは最大24枚で挑発ユニットを抜くためにゾンビアタックが必要です。
ビジュアルや世界観はいいのですが間違ってもフルプライスで買うようなゲームではありません。
私自身数多くのデッキ構築型ゲームを遊んできましたが、その中でも酷いレベルのバランスです。

Hello! I'll start with the tl;dr as I tend to be long winded.
This game is a good card battler but has a rough start. Don't be afraid to start on easy. Enemy AI can make really obnoxious choices (more to hurt your run long-term than the best choice in that fight/moment).

So this is overall a fun game that I would definitely recommend, the overall game-play loop is fun and rewarding with plenty to unlock and manage as you go through the game.A few notes/warnings: unless you're okay losing I'd highly recommend starting on the easiest mode, it has a harsh starting curve, make sure you the playstyle that you like & build your deck towards synergizes with the leader you play; their bio isn't just pointless flavor text, it describes the leader cards they unlock which shapes the play style of that run!
I started my first run on the easiest difficulty, made it all the way to the final boss and lost. My next run I went to the "normal" difficulty and had my ass handed to me. A couple more tries of that and I went back down to the easier difficulty to unlock stuff and get a better grasp of the meta. I think there is a lot of luck (what unit cards you pull and what gear you happen to find) which I'm not a huge fan of, but it doesn't ruin the game as there is still a lot within your control. For me I find the Leader I choose is the main make or break. The Convoy (your unit deck and abilities) has a big impact but not as much as you might think as your deck will likely be very different in the back half than it started. The Leader you play with affects you throughout the game as when you level them up it determines what cards you can choose on your level up.

Definitely give this game a try if you enjoy tough card battlers!

To me this game is just not worth it in 2024 with so many better deckbuilders available.
Most times I start up a new deckbuilder roguelike a few hours fly by without realising.
For this game I'm done fast.
This games "If a card dies twice it's lost forever" could be an interesting mechanic if you wouldn't have cards that want to die for their effect, every enemy not scared to die and just kamikazeing and even normal enemies just having spells to oneshot your cards out of nowhere. A mechanic that makes you not want to play your cards in a deckbuilder is a risky design choice and I don't think it paid of for this game.

underrated. i keep coming back to it! it's got more of an emphasis on the tactics and survival than some of these other deck-builders that get really huge, and as a result is somewhat more challenging, but it's got good art and a real mood to the world that i like. i think tactics people don't like cards as an interface, and card people don't like slow methodical strategy encounters and hard fail states. but if combining those things w/ the classic ftl-style overworld map progression sounds cool to you, you can't really go wrong for the price. honestly i really struggle to understand the negative reviews for this one, not that anyone's opinions or experiences are invalid. i do find myself liking more niche titles for whatever reason, and i think this is a pretty good one. and especially on a sale it's an easy recommend!

The game mainly use character as consumable resource in a very bad way. And character will get hurt if the character goes to 0 HP in battle, if the character already get hurt, then it will die and remove the character from the run.

The problem is the game mechanism, it is really easy to have a lot of 0 HP characters after a single battle, but player's deck is hard to have new characters, so the player will have fewer and fewer characters. In addition, the enemy usually have decks that dealing damages, seems those enemy are only used to reduce the available cards from your deck instead of wining their battle.

The hurt mechanism brings a big impact to the deck, even you have some great cards, you will afraid losing the card in the battle, and it brings a huge impact to the future, and it discourage the player from building deck that rely on some powerful character, because it is easy to take those character down within a turn and player cannot fight back.

I suggest changing the hurt mechanism, such as hurt will last for 1 or few battles only, if character not get to zero HP again in those battles or did not join the battle, then it will recover. This can greatly increase the willing of trying use different characters or prevent using character that already get hurt and add them back later.

As developers unlikely changing the game mechanism or bring new mechanism to the game, the game is not recommend to the others.

I picked this game back up recently, having forgotten why I stopped playing it to begin with. Previously, I wasn't very good at card games, but I liked them. Now I'd like to think I'm considerably better, and I have some things to say about the execution of this game.

Firstly, I like a lot of what it has going for it in terms of art direction and the literal mechanics of the game. The map events can be quite unforgiving at times, often times stealing your best cards from you, which can be rather annoying, but otherwise I enjoy having to plot a course through the nodes while considering the opportunity to profit versus the needs for survival.
If that was the end of the story, this game would be an immediate suggestion, hands down great game. The problem though, is the difficulty. I hate saying that, because I feel that the argument that a "game is too hard" is not really a good one in a lot of cases. Roguelikes/lites are "hard" because they typically have a meta-progression where you unlock things that give you more options and potentially just make you flat-out stronger (more HP/damage/etc). Nowhere Prophet has one of these, as it has several classes (deck masters that you can run that give you specific cards called Leader cards as you level them) and starting convey deck types (convoy decks are made up of "creatures" that fill the playing board and can attack) that confer a few passive buffs and boons to your entire playstyle, and you unlock many of these as you beat the game or encounter certain events.

The issue though, is that this game is incredibly lopsided in its power balance between the AI and the player, with an additional factor of just making some really weird design choices for the AI decks. You have 30HP on your deck master, you lose that HP and you lose the game. Enemy deck masters in random encounters will start out at around 7-9, which you can deal with by landing 2-4 solid attacks. However, as you progress, enemy strength ramps up quickly, and 7-9 HP quickly becomes 16-25, with most enemy decks being built INCREDIBLY obnoxiously. Enemy decks will often be built with a hyper focus on certain mechanical concepts. For instance, there is a mechanic called "Taunt", that when printed on a card in play requires that that card be attacked before anything else. This is a pretty strong mechanic, really good for tanking, as it forces you to waste your turns attacking a non-threat and potentially even losing some of your own guys as a result of the damage they take from the fighting. Now, from the second area onward, it is entirely possible to run into enemies who use ENTIRE DECKS of Taunt cards. Cards that have Taunt, cards that give Taunt, cards that buff Taunt, you get the picture. This is INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING to play around if you don't have the right tools to deal with it, and even if you do, you have to kill the enemy quickly enough before they can just reset their board, because their ENTIRE DECK is filled with all the cards they need to keep resetting. There's decks like this for stacking Burn (just directly damaging your deck master without having to attack), Armor (temp HP that only lasts for one battle), Tokens (creatures that typically have no special ability but are cheap to play and have decent stats), and more. Each of these decks require specific approaches to deal with before they get out of hand, though what "get out of hand" means varies. A Burn deck won't usually be that defensive so you can kill them fast, but in about two turns you can easily take 6+ damage without being able to mitigate it. An Armor deck might just lose you the game if you are too slow to win. Taunt decks are the worst in my opinion though because of how obnoxious they are.

Now, you might've read that and thought "well it sounds like you just need to build your deck better", and you're right, building a good deck can circumvent a lot of issues. Problem is though, the deck building in the game is awful. You get a starting deck of cards that are somewhat coherent but typically aren't that impressive or practical. After that, it's 100% random chance whether or not you can develop it into something effective, as the only source of Convoy cards are random event rewards which you have no control over the selection of, and purchasing them from major markets, typically only encountered between zones, which are still just a random selection of 4-10 guys who might not be what you need to make your deck run well. And your Leader deck can only be filled or thinned when you level up or encounter a trainer, both of which carry heavy elements of randomization, as you pick from one of three random cards. Each deck master has several mechanical themes they can approach as well, but you may not be using them all, so each time you level up there's a chance you get nothing useful. This goes doubly for the trainers, as the trainers can be of ANY deck master class, meaning they might not even use any of the mechanics you need for your deck. But, even WITH this, it's DEFINITELY still possible to cobble together a functional, even optimal, deck. Except, for the final nail in the coffin.

There is a mechanic with your Convoy deck where, through random events or by being destroyed in battle twice without healing, they are permanently removed from your deck. As a result, the longer your run goes, the more your deck will lose focus and cohesion, which means the game is getting twice as hard, as you have to deal with stronger, more focused decks, as your deck inevitably becomes weaker. And this isn't really a question of "if" it happens. Inevitably, you will start to lose important cards, because enemy decks are very efficient about removing key cards from the field, and obviously in order to extract value from your cards you have to actually play them, and sometimes that means even when they're wounded. And this ALMOST wouldn't ruin everything, ALMOST (it absolutely still would but the following fact just makes it worse) if it wasn't for the fact that the AI just plays like spiteful suicide bombers. Sometimes they will retreat/surrender, and you can end the battle early, but often times this comes with a penalty or reduced rewards, which really sours after a particularly nasty battle. But most of the time, the AI just seems hellbent on inflicting maximum damage to you, with no regard whatsoever for their own cards. They'll gladly sack any amount of creatures just to make you suffer a bit more in your next encounter. I have encountered decks in this game where the enemy has cards that just cause us both to take 2 damage each turn. The AI in this game is not bad/stupid, it is incredibly good at tactically maneuvering itself into winning positions, so I have to ask WHY they have a card that almost guarantees they'll lose in exchange for maximizing the amount of damage I'll have to contend with after the battle? That card was crafted with the explicit intent to just whittle away the player even further, and it's genuinely just too much.

I can't recommend this game to anybody, it's just more frustrating than fun. It'd be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ perfect if they just retooled a few things, because this game is genuinely unfun by just INCHES, but they undeniably crossed that line. I DO hope they make a sequel (no chance of an update), and I hope it's almost exactly the same with some alterations and a few mechanical add-ons to add some depth to pre-combat events with other human factions.

Boy is the main game loop terrible.

Think Hearthstone meets Slay the Spire.
Only that the Slay the Spire map nodes are all blank (you wont know what you get) and cost you resources to get to. All while its not clear you even have or will find as many resources as it takes to get to the end of the map.
Your Hearthstone units, on the other hand, are removed the second time they are cleared from the board. Oh and your starting deck is not only huge but terrible.
My "legendary, incredibly rare, this unit performs so much better than everything else" isn't better than anything else and mostly worse against anything you will see in the starter area.

Out of the 50 or so cards, you draw 5 and if they are good, you win and if they aren't you loose.
Within 5 minutes of playing the game i got an achievement for defeating an elite without taking damage that less than half of all players have, only to face a "regular" enemy right after that used a 5/3 rage unit to take out 4 of my units in a single turn. (this shouldn't actually be possible due to damage taken, but it happened)
To clarify this some more: There is mathematically a best way to play and place your three starting units, and sometimes that just isn't enough.

The main problem with the game loop seems to be: The player is forced to protect its units (beyond Hearthstone board management and trading), while none of the enemy units seem to have a problem with getting killed for no reason.
Note: this is how the game portrays itself and how a new player is led into the game.
You roleplay a caravan leader out there to get to the other side of the world all the while protecting all your people.
This isn't even realistic, in a Mad Max kind of world, i would send scouts everywhere if i had a caravan and never fight. Ever.

I am sure that playing this for 20-30 hours, there could be something there, but i rather spend my time playing something that i'll enjoy.

TLDR:
If you like Hearthstone and Slay the Spire, at LEAST try it, and if you don't like it refund it.

Longer version:
Its a solid game. It takes good parts from Hearthstone, Slay the Spire with kind of a more detailed exploration from Oregon trail and makes it into a great game. The lore is a really interesting and the events are nicely written. Think Mad Max meets the Middle east with a sprinkle of cyberpunk (an odd combination to say the least). I think the art is incredible, minimalistic cell shading while still bringing life to the game. I haven't played this game in several years, so I decided to boot it up because I remembered it fondly. Two runs in and it was still as much fun as I remembered. I was curious to see how it was faring and I saw a large amount of negative reviews, so I figured I'd leave my thoughts here. It's absolutely worth a try if you like the games I mentioned above

I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH!! I've been playing since 2020 and FINALLY completed a campaign. Did that really take four years? Yes. Was it satisfying to be able to achieve finishing a campaign for a game I've found very difficult even on the easiest setting? Yes! I'm really impressed with every aspect of this game, from the replayability to the music and graphics to the story. If you like HARD and SATISFYING deckbuilding games, definitely check this one out!!

This game has a lot going for it, but the pros (beautiful art and unique convoy management) definitely don't outweigh the cons (repetitive events at a drudging pace, lack of agency in deckbuilding as combat is single-minded)

I beat a full run of this game on the first difficulty and lost a run on the first boss on the hardest difficulty. The story and convoy management feel great but the random events felt very meh - in just my first run I ran into the same text prompts several times. I lost interest in the random events when I saw the same one over 5 times in one run. (Inspect the Fortress, Attack or Flee). I think the setting and art styling is great, but the replayability feels low.

The biggest gripe I have with the game though is that the combat is very much a race to do as much direct damage as possible. Wasting your time engaging in trades and playing cards that don't just do direct damage is a net negative as your cards you lose in combat take wounds (2 wounds and you lose them permanently) and your damage on your leader stays. To me, this means the only viable strategy is to build a non-synergistic aggressive deck to mitigate the losses you take from prolonged battles or the random cards that some enemies have that just deal damage to your face regardless of board state.

I feel a distinct lack of agency when playing the game on the hardest difficulty and a lack of challenge when playing the lower difficulty and an overall boredom and sluggishness with the repetitive story prompts. I love the art and love the idea of having your followers represented by cards (excellent UI) but the combat and pacing is just too much to overcome so I can't recommend this title.

Good Game. Somewhat similar to hearthstone in a roguelike format.
Distinguishes itself from other roguelike deckbuilders in a few ways

Firstly, there are 2 decks - leader and follower. Leader deck is more similar to other roguelikes, where you cannot freely edit the deck and must pay a cost to remove cards.
Follower deck, however, is freely editable as in a traditional TCG/CCG. This deck, however, comes with the added mechanics of wounds, wherein you can lose cards permanently if you lose them twice in a fight, so you have to decide when to risk wounded cards, and the format heavily encourages rotating cards in and out of your deck.

Secondly, you can backtrack 0 - at a resource cost. If you do it too much you'll run out of resources, but it is a viable way to get to a node you want that is only a bit off your path.

Would not recommend for anyone really, have some time on xbox when it was on game pass, and bought on steam and remembered why I stopped playing it. Random events can make your party wounded at anytime, more frequent right before boss battles. Has a very limited in-game tutorial that doesn't explain much. As a previous reviewer said, enemies get really good cards that mix together well and you start with pretty much nothing good. Some mechanics don't work as intended. Play Slay the Spire instead.

There's a lot that goes into this game, with a cohesive art style and intriguing setting and concepts. That's why it's a shame to report that the actual experience is middling at best. The exploration portions are probably the most interesting, and they start repeating in the first area. The combat is okay and decently balanced in my experience, but not fun enough to carry the rest of the game.

It's also hurting for options beyond music and sfx volume sliders. There's a parallax effect that follows the mouse which, much like its spiritual sibling Dead In Vinland, hits me right in the motion sickness. It doesn't add anything substantial and can't be turned off, which is a trend for a number of minor game details. If there's a way to speed up combat, I haven't found it, so I found myself alt-tabbing out of fights while waiting for my turn.

I wouldn't say that Nowhere Prophet is a bad game, but given the elements it contains and the clear effort that went into it, it's bizarrely mediocre. My last shot at it, I got bored halfway into the first area and closed the game when I finished that zone. It's a 7/10 at best. Better than Dead In Vinland, but shares an odd amount of overlap in places now that I think about it.

Not balanced not fun. Pure RNG on the paths. Enemies spawn 3-4 tokens every turn while you have to speed run trying to burn down the leader. The enemies you fight are themetic and strong with synergy and interesting abilities while you have this mish mash of yard sale rejects that get wounded and perma die before you get anything strong or interesting yourself.

Awesome roguelike. Played it on gamepass months ago, decided to purchase here and im still not disappointed nor bored of the gameplay loop. Great addition to my other roguelikes! Absolutely an incredible twist on the genre. Not to mention the super cool music and gorgeous art style. The story and writing are stupidly captivating too, really feels like you're in this barren wasteland of a world.

虽然是有过卡牌经验的玩家很容易上手。但是由于随从的永久死亡机制。导致没有任何套路卡组配合可言。造俩墙狙击手在后面直接开两回合枪对方英雄就可以死了。而且由于随从永久死亡。有些时候又不愿意把自己最强的卡放在前面的BOSS战斗中。我前期玩的真的是太难受了。虽然能每次战斗都胜利。打过好几个章节地图。但是就是一点爽感都没有。敌人是一次性的。导致AI可以3-4个随从强行去换掉我的前排大哥。这样子打着真的很无趣。而且很多单卡强度也弱。强度弱但又无法配合就是弱上加弱。电池也是特别的缺。制作组怎么想的啊。肉鸽卡牌游戏抄都不会抄是吧。能做成这个样子的啊！

Really solid deck building game. I would advise don't worry too much abt the "building" part of the game. Just pick as many things that help you out. Even when they don't help you out, they will someday, there is some events that just looks at the amount of cards you have and you get massive rewards from it. Lots of different play styles, strategies, starting decks and fun to be had.

My biggest annoyance with the game though is how many locations there are and how many options each one has. They all add to replayability, don't get me wrong, but it was too much to memorize. There are 20+ unique locations all with more than a handful of options. Even if I came to that locations in the past and picked the best possible options, it was very likely the next time i visited i'd either forgotten what i choose last time or tried a different option hoping for a different outcome. I would LOVE if the game had a some sort of way to remember the outcomes of options without going on a wiki.

This not a rogue-like deckbuilder, but a survival roguelike with deckbuilding. In most other deckbuilder you have one deck, and your goal is to get that deck as broken as possible. In NP your goal is to not lose, not rlly just win. The fun comes from not just deck building but surviving and even flourishing in a harsh world where your allies can die at any time. You want each battle to end with as little loss as possible. This game is as much about fights as it is abour balancing resources. Another unique concept is map and level progression. Deciding how much of the rewards of each level you can take without your people losing hope or starving. Pretty fun game
