¡Buena suerte, vas a necesitarla!
Not for me at all.
The soundtrack is fantastic.
Everything else is a hot mess of interesting to great ideas, implemented really, really badly.
I keep watching the videos and reading some of the reviews and thinking - should I give this another chance. Sometimes you have to play into a game.
And then I spend five seconds with the horrible controls, the complete lack of explanation of anything. The inability to even quit the game, let alone find the control redefinition.
For my sins I have 7,000 games on steam. Accessibility is a thing. I'm gonna go play Risk of Rain or Hades or Dark Souls or literally anything else that respects my time.
The soundtrack is fantastic.
Go listen to it on youtube.

This game is so bad that even getting it for free seems like too much.
The feedback is horrible, if not non-existent, bullet sponge enemies, it just feels ehhh...
Game also doesn't really do anything to walk you through the game even a little bit so you have to actually google to know what to do (what)
Thankfully, nowadays this game is delisted but I wouldn't even recommend playing this for free. It's a miserable experience.
No.
Hard pass. I think I got this from a HumbleBundle bundle bundle.

PD.

If you happen to see this, they are reworking the game, its called Nongunz: Doppelganger Edition
The style of the game while different, more retro feel, doesn't do it for me. Only played a bit, but the enemies seem tanky, and while sometimes no feedback is good or well done, I personally feel that it's poorly done in this game. The screen sometimes glitches, why? You tell me. There are windows you can interact with that seem to full heal you but take you to the start of the level again, why? punish you for trying things when the game doesn't tell you anything i guess. I will say though when i found the quit game button and was met with a person in some room I was pretty shocked. I'm not sure why its not longer available on sale on Steam? I don't think its bad, someone would enjoy this type of game.
Edit: I now see that you can exit the level early with the windows and go spend your points at the weapons shrine, also this version of the game is not on sale anymore, cause there is another one coming soon called Nongunz Doppelganger Edition, which just by looking at screenshots doesn't have any changes? I would like to know what the differences are, other than they changed they description of the game to "a mix of cookie clicker and Binding of Isaac" from what is on this version of the game, Where its a "nihilistic action platformer, that is obscure, and is a riddle that demands sacrifice."Its like they are now trying to draw people in to the exact same game like oh look its cookie clicker and Isaac, sike. If anyone knows feel free to let me know. I like the mystery that the game is going for but I don't like the art style personally, and the complete lack of direction hurts it as a whole.
ehh
Give this game a chance - if you are like me, the lack of any guide or direction for what you should do or how the mechanics work is frustrating. Read a steam guide and you will get a sense of it. Once you build up some cards for stats (yes they do impact stats, though you need a bunch before anything is noticeable), grind some points (kill streaks are key) and realise you can't just take on the first boss right off the bat (unless you get really lucky gun imho), the game becomes fun.
If you are not like me and enjoy games that are ambiguous and give you little guidance, enjoy the discovery of Nongunz!
Nongünz is a strange game, when you start it you don't really understand anything, and this can become frustrating if you don't take the time to get to know it, but after you overcome that barrier and pass the learning curve, it's an incredible game, full of secrets and quite extensive due to its roguelite nature.
Each boss has a curious and original design to say the least, and the game is really challenging, with a soundtrack that will probably stick in your mind for a while after playing.
I highly recommend it to those who like this type of game.
Alto game.
One of the absolute worst platformers I have ever played.
This is a terrible retro pixel 2D platformer/shmup where you control some pixel thing and shoot pixel things and wish you had never bought a game bundle in your life.
Resolution is fixed and can't be changed, same is true for the control inputs. If you own a gaming PC then the game will be largely unplayable as your HOTAS, racing wheel etc will be interpreted as a console peasant childrens toy and render the controls unusable. The developer didn't add anything to turn this off, which they might have done if they tested this rubbish.
Wisely, the developer pulled the game from the store. Such self awareness is refreshing, I hope that they never try to develop a video game again. We are all lesser as a people because of this game.

The more you learn, the more fun it is
It's not just ads lie to me, the rating of steam also does
Doppelganger Edition will definitely support it when it comes out
Unfortunately, there is no version for mac and linux
I have over 1400 games in my Steam account, and the vast majority of them are still unplayed. So I'm dedicating an hour to each of these games and writing a series of One Hour Reviews. An hour isn't very long to judge a game on, so think of this as more of a first impression, and take this review in the spirit in which it's given. Be sure to read other reviews from players who have spent more time in the game.
One Hour Reviews #70 - Nongünz
For me, roguelike and platformer are two of the hardest genres to play, so I figured this combination meant that it was going to be an hour of frustration. And it was, but not at all for the reasons I was expecting.
I'll start with the good points, because there are absolutely some good things to discuss here. First, I really appreciated the art style. It's a bit hard to describe, it's definitely pixel like but still detailed. The game is mostly in a greyscale, but uses orange as an accent color.
I also enjoyed the variety of monsters I came up against. I have no idea what any of them are called (more on this in a bit), but each one had a unique behavior and attach. You had these murder hornet looking things that would fly after you. This other shambling mound looking thing would shoot it's splooge at me and if it hits I become trapped in it until I shoot my way out. There's a spider looking thing that only attacks from below. Something that looks like a scorpion will chase me around, hopping off ledges to get to me (other monters will stay on their current platform).
You get a minimap in the top right corner that shows a set of rooms. It's very reminiscent of Zelda or The Binding of Isaac. You have a room denoting where the "boss" is, and another room that contains a shop where you can buy items. Each playthough the map is randomized. So the general gameplay involves making your way to the boss room, trying not to get killed, and collecting currency along the way that you can spend in the shop if you choose to go there. It's this part of the gameplay that's actually pretty fun.
You're going to die a lot, and that can definitely be frustrating, but that wasn't my real frustration with the game. The problem with Nongünz is the way it doesn't explain anything to you. Rather you are expected to figure out every aspect of the game on your own. One exception, you do get a very brief explanation of the controls at the start of the game.
As you progress through the map, some rooms will contain treasure chests that you can loot for items. When you look an item, the item is displayed as a card. There are 2 numbers in the bottom corners of the card, but no explanation what they are. You can sometimes kind of tell from the art what the item is supposed to be, but most of the time you can't.
And here's the thing, this game doesn't use a single piece of text, other than a few numbers here and there. You're just supposed to figure out from the icons what things do. I also figured out (no thanks to any help from the game) that you can "sacrifice" an item to get some health back. I remember early on in my gaming session I discovered I could double jump. I actually thought that this was part of the game, but then after I died, in my next playthrough I realized I didn't have the ability anymore, and must have gotten it from some item I picked up.
Even the achievements themselves are simply letters in the alphabet, with no explanation as to how you got them. One achievement is labeled "B", and it's description is "100". Maybe that means you get it after getting your first 100 coins, or killing your first 100 monsters, who knows?
For me this is one of my big pet peeves with a game. I realize not every game is going to spoon feed you everything you need to know. But, on the other side of that argument, you shouldn't have to consult a wiki or gamefaq just to understand the basics on how to play a game.
I understand this opaqueness was a deliberate decision on the part of the developers, and while I can respect that as an artistic choice, it doesn't make for a good game.
Note: As of the time I wrote this review, this game is not available to buy on Steam, however I did see it on the Humble Store if you really want to check it out.
Good art, good concept, bad game.
I bought this game when It came out, and I played it for some time, I saw some gameplay about it and I loved the aesthetic and the mystery.
I found myself on quarantine without much to do and I felt like replaying some games I had.
I'm at this moment playing the game and I love it again.
I don't know the details about Brainwash Gang removing the game from steam but I would love to see it again in steam so I can showoff this amazing game to others.
i disliked nothing i liked everthing

Nongünz is a combination of a roguelike, similar to Spelunky, and an idle game. It also has a purposefully obtuse interface, featuring no words at all. You are intended to figure the game out as you play, with many mechanics not even being hinted at. This creates a weird type of game, in which it is extremely niche, due to it being an idle game mixed with a roguelike, but it is also very unclear what the game is at first glance. It is a recipe for disappointed customers, as not many people will enjoy this specific combo of game mechanics, but it is hidden from them until they have already purchased the game. Overall, it is a unique game that probably only appeals to a very specific audience. I would recommend it to anyone who thinks they might like an idle-roguelike, but the average player won't enjoy this as much.
6/10
one bullet = one prayer
Nongünz is awesome. Both the art style and soundtrack are unique in a good way. Controls are tight and the difficulty is well balanced. There is no need for grinding in this game, progression is skill-based. Although the player is given some fun permanent boosts, these are not mandatory to complete the game. With a ton of weapons, abilities, enemies and maps there is also depth to the gameplay.
Nongünz gets better the more it is played. Getting used to sliding and rolling takes a while. Reading some guides helps to make sense of the different progression systems. I needed a guide just to find the exit to windows button.
9/10
I don’t like to call other people pretentious. Really, I don’t. Mulholland Drive is one of my favourite movies, and you bet your ass I’m going to cheekily imply that I understand what it’s about whenever it’s brought up, even though my guess is as good as that of somebody who hasn’t seen it. So, when I say that Nongünz is a pretentious game, you can believe I’m not saying it lightly and that the developers of this farcical mess have done something really ridiculous to drive me to that point.
For one thing, the game doesn’t have any dialogue or text. No dialogue? Fine! Some of the best games have little to no dialogue and can still be effective. No text? “Surely he infers that there is simply no diegetic text!”, I hear you exclaim, but this is not the case. Nongünz literally doesn’t have any text after the title screen. Button prompts appear as mysterious symbols that don’t actually correspond with what you need to press. You run around collecting cards with mysterious symbols on them. Instead of text, the pause menu has mysterious symbols to make sure you know that even something as innocuous as changing the video settings must be a dark journey into the minds of madness.
The game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks, basically. Even if it was not made deliberately stupid and unfun by this whole gimmick, it’s a side-scrolling shooter where you can control your aim only by holding a button to lie on the ground and face directly up. Never in my life have I cared less about learning a game’s mechanics, but even if I wanted to understand what was going on, I don’t think the deliberately opaque and artsy interface would have allowed me to. Maybe the best game ever made is under here somewhere, deep beneath mountains of derivative gameplay and smug, masturbatory fan-fiction, but somehow I doubt it.
The graphics are nice, though.
Okay, where's the tutorial? I don't know what I'm doing, what the goal is, what the increasing number means, how to progress, etc. I don't even know the controls.
The game was pretty unplayable for me because of all these weird design decisions and controls. I am usually lenient on indie games, but for an action platformer there is nothing more important that precise responsive convenient controls. You're supposed to overcome challenges in the game, not the game be the challenge to overcome.
The menus are pretty bad and there's no mouse of course. And there's the worst keybinding menu I have ever seen and, yes, I consider Unity's pre-game launcher/control menu better. I mean, at least it has one, but holy cow. Functionality first, style later. And UI controls being the same as what you assign to movement, god forbid you mess up in control window.
A game where you shoot and you can't aim in any way besides turning left/right. You can't shoot up or down. The mouse controls the camera but there is no cursor and it doesn't actually change the firing direction direction, just jerks the screen around. I'd like to shoot with the mouse even if I can't aim, but any movement just jerks the screen around instantly (and of course there's no sensitivity slider or anything like that). But enemies can shoot in any direction, because why keep rules consistent?
And what is up with not being able to drop down ledges? You already can't shoot up or down, and now you can't even move in crucial direction. Instead you get this weird roll mechanic that doesn't even dodge damage.
Art is... impressive for the style they went for. But it also hinders itself. Especially in fights where particles start flying and the screen starts shaking and screen effects kick in and you just lose track of things (and die). And the backgrounds blend with foreground.
I guess I have nothing to say about game's features because I never got to see them. May be the game gets amazing later, I dunno. When people are writing guides for the game with preface of "just stick with it" and "here's how to navigate menus", I just have to wonder - why bother? Platformers have been around for literal decades. It's like the game randomly ignores every third feature of common sense for side-scrolling shoot-em-ups. I wish more developers understood that "confusing" and "figure things out" does not automatically mean a fun exploration experience. If you do it wrong, you either get players who quit or players who fight through it, figure it out and then stick because of Stockholm syndrome and lost cost fallacy and it becomes a polarized "you just don't understand" argument.
EL CONTROL NO FUNCIONA BIEEENN
Let's start with the bad things, because it's what you will encounter first. When trying to play at the beginning you will notice the complete lack of guidance or meaning in what you're doing, you will be overwhelmed with confusion and, like I did, will close the game for this, it's normal and intended. My guessing is that exploration and learning the basic mechanics is something the creators wanted but the game is just not intuitive enough, read a guide before playing, it's not that hard and worth it at the end.
The game in itself is a rogue like combined with the mechanic of an idle clicker, now, this is intended to deliver its central theme: Nihilism or Absurdism. The combination of the two most nefarious aspects of gaming: repeating the same levels/challenges over and over again and accumulation just for the sake of accumulation, gives the game a really good undertone of hopelessness.
Design wise it's really good. Everything, from the music to the characters, matches to generate a real feeling of gloom that matches perfectly with the intent of the story and mechanics.
The story is lacking but the little things that are there to make one are deep enough to make one want to get to the end. The curiosity one gets by noticing the strange orange guy in a room in the middle of nowhere when exiting the game is fuel enough, and at the end the player gets the conclusion to that strange and seemingly unconnected part of the whole.
Until then, you'll keep grinding and fighting with a feeling of despair as your only guide to get to the end of it all.
If you like the idea of discovering mechanics and minimal hand-holding. Maybe give this platformer a chance.
I'd recommend this game for fans of the rogue-lite genre only. I do wish there was a little more explanation of what to do or how to do it - you need to read a guide. Still, it's fun and decently balanced, but won't hold my interest for long, mostly because rogue-lite games get on my nerves. I suspect if you like the genre you'd enjoy it longer than I did.
This game is one of the best games I have ever played. I recommend for everbody who likes to spend time thinking about misteries and this kind of stuff. The game has also a great playing.

A very strange game. It's a really solid run and gun shooter with a few really weird choices that depending on how you like your games could either be pros or cons. It controls well and the combat and feels good, the movement is a little weird cause your dodge is a long roll that is a little annoying to cancel, but that's a minor gripe. The things I'll focus on here are the unique aspects of the game, first an foremost it's an idle game as well, so you accrue currency while playing the game or idling the game, this means that if you just tab out and do something else for a bit, you can get an immediate leg up on your next run, but it also means sometimes the ideal thing to do is just wait until you have enough to buy the items you want. The game also doesn't tell you anything, there is no text anywhere in the game, and figuring out what does what is half the battle. Finally, and weirdest for me, is that you kinda have to grind in this run and gun game. See, you need these items to power up but you lose them on death, and you don't get very many in a single run, so the best thing to do is to start a run, get a few, then abort the run without dying, store the items and repeat until you have enough to fight the good fight.Depending on what you like, this could be either a good thing or a bad thing, but it's certainly unique.
Overall I enjoyed Nongunz (which I think would be pronounced non-GOONZ) but I would offer a word of caution, as it does have some very strange aspects.
i wish this game was just about the guns and the dungoen, none of that clicker nonsense.
this game is brilliant once youve collected enough cards to get decent speed and jump height, it just takes waaaaaaaayyyy too much time grinding to get to that point. the guns feel amazing, every enemy is fair, the leveldesign is decent but you cant really appreciate these things because youre one slowboi. ihave beaten the 3rd boss and i would love to play this game further, but to stand a chance in 4th stage i have to grind cards in the 1st and 2nd stage, and i dont have the time or the patience for that.
worshippers, skeletons, all those "obscure" mechanics are timeconsuming and unnecessary. this game should only be one hard as nails rougelike, where you start with only a pistol and see how far you can get, collecting new weapons along the way.
This indie game is too obscure for its own good in every way, Googling for tips gets you no useful results lol
Plus if you recruit too many cultists/worshippers, the game punishes you by running like ♥♥♥♥
If you haven't bought it yet, avoid
Dulce bellum inexpertis.
Not saying it's a bad game, I just don't think this one is for me. Nothing really hooked me.
Graphics looks fantastic.
But the gameplay is a complete mess, unplayable and badly thought. That, and the fact that it doesn't support AZERTY keyboards.
Fascinating game that doesn't explain anything.
Fun combat. Creepy enemies.
Interesting upgrade system.
great indie game
Really like this game as a pass time.
After having played The Binding of Isacc and other roguelikes for a bit, this does seem like firmiliar territory, but at the same time it has a completely different point of view and atmosphere which makes it very gripping and fun.
Smaller things such as being able to gain points in many different ways, that you can then invest into items to use is also a nice touch :)

TLDR: Skills oriented zoomed out minimalistic shooter. Unintuitive with poor color palette and lack of clear progression. Outcompeted.
Unfortunately this game is very hard to handle. GoNNer in comparison offers the same procedural minimalistic shooter experience but with fluid animations and controls, a distinct flavor and style, clear and well executed level design and enjoyable platform shooting action. I would rather invest time with this direct superior replacement than suffer with NonGunZ clunky execution.

I feel all I need to say you can't shoot up with out being on a slip and slide, and if there is a way HOW AM I MEANT TO KNOW, the game gives you 0 signs of what to do if there is a way.
I would probably enjoy this, if I knew how to play it. Frankly I feel like, well, if the dev can't be bothered to give some sort of tutorial, or at least an in game hint of what to do then as it was basically free in a bundle and I have so many other games to play, well, I can't be bothered to search out a guide.
There are too many games like this nowadays, you can play a game for hours struggling with inconvenient controls or vague descriptions getting to the end only to find out that there was a short cut or method you weren't aware of that would have made the game 10 X as enjoyable and easy to play but you weren't aware because the dev couldn't be bothered to tell you or else they chose to use some obscure graphic to describe it that only makes sense to the person who invented it and no one else.
You need to communicate to be understood and the onus is on the dev to make a game accessible to others. That is of course if you are interested in people playing your game, if you aren't of course, you can ignore this.
I like this game, but is hell of a weird Metroidvania style game.
Interesting game in many ways. First it have very unique aesthetics, looks simple but it actually more carefully tough than it seem at first.
Game doesn't explain you anything except basic controls, this is great at first when you discovering game but you might miss some crucial thins and tactics so after a while it is a good idea to read some tips guide or anything like that to save yourself some trouble and frustration.
But even so game i very hard and challenging, without good strategy and skill there is no chance in hell to finish it or even beat first boss :) To finish the game you probably have to invest many hours, not sacrifice I am willing to make but I had some fun with it in that 10h
Controls like ass.
Yes
I've spent few hours plazing this nihilistic action-rougelike-weird-idle-shooter-platformer... and I still have no idea what I am doing.
I think I will play this game for a little longer, maybe the point will be revealed.
Will the point be revealed? What is the point of being revealed? Is there a point of our nihilistic lives be revealed? Is the point in no point?
(murmurmurmurmur....)
i don't undrestand anything
i tried to play this game but after 2 hours of gameplay i still don't undrestand anything about it
i wouldn't recommand it, not because i hated it, it's just so confusing.
THIS GAME IF WORTH EVERY CENT!!!
I've been looking for game like this for such a long time. RUN 'N GUN BABY!!! For this cost you'll get badass artwork, gameplay, weapon palete. And if you've got a double click button on your mouse, OHHHHH BOIIIIII!!!! Even your stock pistol is a deadly maschine gun. And what about that granade launcher... Yeah the controls aren't presented the best but you'll soon get a hang on it. There is NO DIALOUGE in this game whatsoever and and the best part, NO RELOADING IN THIS GAME!!!
And the soundtrack, OHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! The music fits the game perfectly!!!
By the time I'm writing this I've only played about a half an hour in this game but trust me when i say this game doesn't have a word UNFORGIVE or UNFORGIVING in it's dictonary. When you die you'll lose everything you've got on u at the moment. So it's good to check out some rewiews, here's the best one i could find so far: WARNING SPOILER ALERT!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4l_Jbn28ZIQ
This game is dark and morbid but still... One of the BEST GAME'S I'VE PLAYED SO FAR!!!
+Pixelart efectivo, estetica llamativa.
+Jugablemente competente.
It's a shame because it looks like it has potential, but this game's design was way too unintuitive for me and it just ruined the experience. It just feels like they were trying way too hard to make you dicsover things.. that even includes changing your keyboard keys ffs. Along with a pretty difficult experience from the get go, I just couldn't get into it.
I can't really understand what's going on in the game, theres next to nothing in terms of explanation for the controls. Plus, it's an idle game for some reason...? I don't recommend it.
I liked this game until I found out it is also an idle game. I'm sorry, but I really think that this game would be better without that aspect, it seems pointless.
That being said the art and style is great. I really wanted to like this game, but I didn't feel motivated to actually go into the dungeon when I could just idle and get more points at zero risk.
I like the mystery behind the game too, I just wish it wasn't so difficult to figure things out. I ended up looking at the guide because I didn't know what I was doing, and that kind of spoiled big parts of the game for me.
6/10 I wanted to like this game. If you are looking for a shooter/roguelite sorta like this game, try out Gonner.
Now, I do love rogue-likes and rogue-likes. Difficulty makes me thrive. What I really do not like, however, is an entirely obscure game, where the difficulty comes from not understanding a single, damn thing. Oh, I freed someone from a cage. So... what now? Oh, I found a XYZ-item, that does exactly... what now? And, after reading the other comments, I found out that there is a shop in game, in form of a wall. I was standing before it, looking at it (as it is beautiful), but got no prompt and just thought one thing (you can guess it)... what now?
Nongünz is an enigma of a game. A roguelike metroidvania puzzle title with gruesomely disturbing art design which makes The Binding of Isaac look like a flower garden.
The entire game has not a single word in it, even the game menu and all its functions are cryptic.
Most likely not everyone's cup of tea, but definitely appealing to a hardcore audience with the willingness to really bite into something difficult, puzzling and challenging.

I absolutely love this game. Love it.
Nongunz throws you into a roguelike that is reminiscent of oldschool games while utilizing modern mechanics. You're tossed into a world in which you just gotta... figure stuff out for your own, albeit not quite to the extent of games like Might and Magic book 1 or any other pre- '95 game. The controls are smooth, and make perfect sense (although I'd take time to review the control scheme in the main menu, for sure). The art is actually very well done, and I really dig the greyscale color scheme accented by a single shade of orange. I know that sounds incredibly pretentious, but it really creates a great mood. The music fits in perfectly, and I appreciate the non- 8 bit music. Enemies are varied and challenging. Discovering new rooms and new secrets is really enjoyable.
10/10 totally suggest.
just awful how u even play it? strong candidate to worst controls ever
meh didn't like it much at all, i did figure out how to quit it last time i tried it tho
btw got it on sale still not worth it for this guy
I really wanted to like this game if even just for nice zx spectrum look artstyle
But cant
Probably cause its as obscure as those old ZX Spectrum games nothing is explained, controll scheme are obsolete and clunky, you can hoot only to three direction (left, right and up) with shooting up being lot of the time impossible due to lvl desing or having "too much moving speed powerups" throwing you to narby spiked trap. Which even on 1st levels are placed to infuriate you to max.
In the end realizing only usable are either spread or melee weapons (would gladly trade starting pistol for anything, even dull spoon).
Add to that nothing in game is explained at all, not even simple picture tutorial to control scheme.
In game items are just icons and its up to you to realize what they do, realize you can actualy burn them to heal yourself while lowering your stats in that run, that you can put some into caskets to create new followers which makes game FAR easier when done early.
Yeah thee is underling cookie clicker like mechanics for game currency and you can evenetualy get to enough followers (game version of auto clicking upgrades) to just force trough game with bought instead of earned items. But that would need patience most players will run out of hours before that point.
Or well some in game explanation which would simply tell you that, this item is used to create follower, you should save it at 1st oportunity to make your life easier. When then wanted by so cryptic maybe by some painting on the wall.
Ah and btw trailers show whole game, all its lenght is pure artificial difficulty
