Mothered is a sequel of the enigma machine trilogy that I didn't expect to like this much, the story was something that got me off guard, it follows Liana that after a surgery her family decided to bring her home to recover from it but, after arriving home something feels off, it seem home but doesn't feels like it, at from that, everything start to unravel, the story it's the best part of this game, creepy and scary in the right way, the gameplay is a lot more simple that the enigma machine it's more similar to a visual novel were you need to do certain actions to continue the story that is spread out to a week time, each day with four different times of the day, it's pretty simple not a lot to say, some things are difficult to understand but usually the game tells you what to do, the graphics is really good, the effects and lighting are really impressive and the uncanny valley look of everything is still impressed in my mind for how unsettling was everything in that game, from the sound to the faces to the whole atmosphere that this game has.
In the end the game is really scary, not only with the atmosphere and unsettling scenarios but with the story, dialogue and overallhl hell that the whole cast of character is living in this game, the whole trilogy I would recommend, it's pretty solid and I love most of the games in this collection.
This game is very much not for the faint-hearted. I was frankly very impressed at how effectively this game builds steady tension and an overwhelming sense of unease with very minimal animation, relying heavily on sound effects and subtle hints in the narrative that make you begin to realise that something is Not Right.
I was a little lost finding the "true ending" and do think that could've been signposted a bit more effectively, but I am also just impatient with these things and it probably stands to the game's horror prowess that I was so desperate for it to be over.

amateurish and obtuse. i ran all around the house, and all around the outside having no idea what to do. i turn on a lets play for the same day, and see the poor guy run around humping every single bit that could be humped just like me. and the best part - its all freaking like that. good luck knowing to click the sun. also ending is unsatisfying as hell.
I wouldn't recommend the game because it is pretty annoying to play through it. I hate the apples part so much because my vision is not good so it took me over 30 minutes to find them on my own, on 2nd playthrough in attempt to get another ending apparently setting down basket of apples takes whole afternoon and is evening by the time you are done placing done a basket of apples which is one of the dumbest things that happened in this game because obviously putting down a basket of apples does not take a whole afternoon, it takes 1 second and this forced me to re-play again which was completely unnecessary.. The repetition is very annoying as well, I wouldn't recommend this for anyone unless they were hunting for achievements. This game is really annoying to play and sometimes I don't even know what I am supposed to do when there are no objectives shown in the game, I'm just supposed to know what to do I guess. This game quickly turns from horror into rage game and repetitive game and is not something I'd recommend.

pros: - unique and creative visuals - these were what initially drew me to the game and they're great for creating atmosphere and intrigue.
- interesting storytelling that demands the player pay attention and piece the situation together
- thought provoking narrative about ethics and the nature of sentience
cons: - the replays of the story necessary to see branching options and find the "true" ending drag - it would be a big QOL improvement if a chapter select option had been added after a first playthrough was completed
- controls and movement feel clunky
- price tag is too high considering how short an experience this is - I did everything in a little over 2 hours.

its very good. i dont really know what else to say about it. the secrets all feel very rewarding and finding them is pretty fun. one of the better horror games in recent memory.
I've played a lot of horror games in my life, absolute favorite genre of games by far. This game is 100% without a doubt in my top 3 games of all time. The more you play and the more you figure out, the more terrifying it becomes. Starts off just being mildly unsettling, and takes you on a wild ride that ends with being the most visually distorted, mindfking digital nightmare. This is one of the few games that I just cannot stop thinking about after finishing the game multiple times in different ways (watch a couple playthroughs only to the point where you make a different decision and let the rest be mystery!). I am so unbelievably excited to see more from this game studio! Please make sure when you play this and beat it, to play the demo and access the second version Mothered: Home. I cannot recommend this game enough to anyone who enjoys horror!!!

First half is pure WTF, rest becomes slightly predicable but anyway worth it, it fries the brain in a good way in less than 2h.
Despite it's short, as I achieved 2 different endings in 2.3h, it feels pretty unique. IMO worth the full-price.

Creepy and stylish game that delivers a unique atmosphere and tells the story of a happy family. This part is essential for understanding the Enigma series.
Cons:
- The story is hard to progress, especially the true ending. The game forces you to revisit every area. Paying attention to every detail is difficult with such graphics.
- The apple collection part causes eyes pain.
- The story could be better.
An honestly great example of a short linear-ish horror experience. While there is no danger, it sets up an atmosphere that can startle and even unnerve. It uses warbly and blubbly sounds to great effect, exentuating the crazy visuals to create a unique experience. Very worth taking a night to crack open what makes the game tick... or I guess in this case what makes your mother tick. :p

It's quite different than the first game - THE ENIGMA MACHINE - but it's a great continuation of that plot. Although getting to the true ending may be somewhat annoying; when you play it the 1st time just should just follow the story, so you won't waste your time trying to find the alternative route.

Really cool premise with a very solid atmosphere. My understanding of what was going on changed multiple times during, and I love how certain things are recontextualized multiple times. The final sequence has some very nice messaging about being free to choose who you are, overall a solid emotional payoff for the journey to reach the ending.
Also, no cheap jumpscares or anything.

Really well crafted game with an interesting narrative (esp if you played the previous entry in the series, but this works as a standalone too). Often I feel like a lot of psychological horror doesn't stand up to the "psychological" part of it's title due to the lackluster imagination or writing skill of the creator, but it's complete the opposite case here.

The second game in the "Enigma" saga (preceded by The Enigma Machine and followed by ECHOSTASIS, as well as the series' demos which carry integral parts of the lore). Each game brings a fairly unique style of gameplay while telling an ongoing and often heart-wrenching ongoing narrative. This one is a bit closer to a spooky walking sim with a dark story running underneath.
Overall, though, the Enigma games are unlike anything else out there and well worth checking out from the beginning to the end!

One very important thing you should know though - the core game this is not the full experience that will lead you to the Echostatis, and probably not even the best part of that experience.
Feel free to beat the core game with a guide if you're having trouble after getting familiar, and then move on to MOTHERED - DEMO + [HOME]. The [HOME] part is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ amazing, the art direction and storytelling is an insane upgrade from the cpre game.

Desde el primer momento, la atmósfera te abraza con una calidez forzada, artificial. Todo parece “bien”, pero el tipo de bien que solo existe cuando alguien intenta fingir que nada pasó. From the very beginning, the atmosphere, envelops you, with a forced artificial warmth. Everything seems “fine,” but it’s the kind of fine that only exists when someone’s pretending nothing ever happened. The mother, always smiling, always ready to “help you recover.” And you? You are just someone with no memories and no voice, you can only obey.
There’s something deeply depersonalizing about the design: the textureless faces, the flat colors, the unnatural movements, all perfectly capturing that sense that something is off. But the thing about MOTHERED is that what is most frightening is not what is shown, but what is implied: that constant doubt about who you are and what happened to you.
What hooked me wasn't fear, but the slow, creeping unease. That slow discomfort that makes you question whether what you're seeing and hearing is literal or symbolic, whether you're healing or being manipulated. It's a game that feels like a metaphor for control, identity, and the desire to please even when something inside you screams that something isn't right.

Although it lacks of a better visual guide (because I got lost multiple times and my playtime was too long for my comfort), it is such an amazing and original idea that I have to recommend it. Although the second ending has a weird way of getting it, could've been better in terms of gameplay.

Randomly stumbled upon this game from one of the many youtubers I watch and I'm surprised more didn't play it. I loved it at the time and I adore it possibly even more now that I played it for myself. It was still very effective. Short but sweet with what IS a simple story told in an interesting way. And I have to emphasise the sound design / music, I don't think I'd love this nearly as much as I do if the music wasn't so spot on.

Absolutely fantastic. Unsettling and creepy, with an atmosphere that matches the gameplay and story. Speaking of story, this is a perfect example of storytelling being achieved in a way completely unique to the art form of video games. A shining example of the medium. EDITED TO ADD: I've also just finished playing the secret sequel/part 2 "Mothered: Home" and just wow. Even more of what made the original game fantastic, but even more disorienting and terrifying. Also, somewhat confusing, I suppose I must play the other 2 games in the trilogy now! Do be warned that the game is full of visual glitches and flashing lights

Игра в первое прохождение дико атмосферная и жуткая, но из-за желания быстрее добраться до заветной кровати, дабы избежать стремноватой ночи, можно пропустить важные детали для сюжета и не понять как выйти на "тру концовку". Игра проходится за 4 часа при внимательном чтении диалогов, страха подойти к мрачной мамочке и тупняке на сборе вонючих яблок. Рекомендую в качестве игры с жуткой историей и атмосферой, а также с глубоким лором. Лайк.
I'll try not to spoil anything but the set of actions you need to complete to trigger the proper progression of the game are so obtuse and random and happen at very specific points of the game that you have to start all over again if you miss them, which you will.

Un excellent jeu, assez court de prime abord, qui nécessite de s'y plonger et de faire preuve d'observation et d'écoute. Imaginez une représentation glauque, interdite au sens, sans issue, de la forme la plus sophistiquée du désespoir, le tout dans une ambiance liminaire illustrée par un monde construit autour de l'esthétique des CGI du début des années 90. Imaginez le, et vivez le en achetant ce jeu que je recommande vivement. L'expérience vaut le coup.

Cinema, ich weiß nicht einmal was ich alles sagen soll. Alles ist perfekt. Die perfekte Atmosphäre, perfektes und wirklich grandioses writing und allein schon die Musik... Das Design des Spieles ist enorm gut, aber in Home, HOLY, diese Effekte passen einfach mit dem Spiel so perfekt zusammen- Das Spiel's writing ist so perfekt, dass es mit Liana aber auch gleichzeitig mit dem Spieler, also DU redet. Selbst wenn man wie ich, vor dem Original Spiel, das "DLC" - Home, gespielt hat und da die Story einigermaßen verstanden hat, ist es trotzdem PFLICHT, den Original Teil zu spielen. Das Hauptspiel ist schon alles perfekt und in Home genauso. Home wird noch ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ was die Sachen mit dem Core von Liana angehen aber trotzdem perfekt umgesetzt. Selbst wenn man Home gespielt hat oder gesehen hat, bevor man das Original gesehen hat, ist die Story so kompliziert geschrieben, dass man selsbt wenn man Home kennt, das Spiel bis zur hälfte nicht direkt alles versteht und alles daran ist Perfekt! Home ist sogar so gut, dass es nicht mal genau das gleiche Gameplay ist. In Home wird auch erwartet, dass der Spieler vorher das Hauptspiel gespielt hat. Damit wird sehr viel gearbeitet. z.B. Im Obstgarten wird in Home gesagt,dass man es nie mochte, hier Äpfel zu pflücken, was auf uns im Spiel als auch den Spieler selber betrifft. Das zeigt einfach,dass das writing perfekt ist und sich hier sehr sehr sehr viel mühe gegeben wurde. Das writing ist sogar so gut, dass die geschriebenen Texte beim ersten mal spielen einfach nur da sind aber wenn man es zum 2ten mal spielt, ergibt es alles einen Sinn. Enigma Machine ist wirlich Talentiert was writing angeht. Das Spiel ist so gut, ich weiß nicht wirklich was ich hier noch erwähnen sollte. 10/10. Aufjedenfall spielen oder bei YouTube gucken bei z.B. Corrupted. Alles. Ist. Perfekt.

Anfangs dachte ich, dass MOTHERED nur ein simples Horrorspiel ist. Doch je weiter ich spielte, desto mehr wurde mir klar, wie sehr es in die Metaebene eintaucht. Die Atmosphäre ist surreal, intensiv und durchgehend düster, man fühlt sich ständig unwohl, ohne dass das Spiel jemals auf billige Jumpscares zurückgreifen muss.
Das Spiel beweist, dass guter Horror nicht vom Budget abhängt. Mit starken Dialogen, subtiler Erzählweise und einem cleveren Aufbau schafft es das Spiel, eine beklemmende und psychologisch tiefgehende Stimmung aufzubauen. Es ist nicht nur unheimlich, sondern auch faszinierend gemacht.

Weirdly interesting story and a mechanically creative view of it. This is the 2nd game in a 3 part series FYI. It's a bit hard to understand without the context of the first game, but it's not impossible. You just won't know who and what a few things are.
Great games aren't always well known and this is the proof. Very recommended if you enjoy horror / walking simulators and like this kind of atmosphere.
Bringing the Uncanny Valley to Life
MOTHERED is one of the most uniquely unsettling games I’ve ever played. From the very beginning, it creates a deeply atmospheric mood through its deliberately blurred visuals and sparse, yet powerfully thunderous music. It doesn’t creep in — it hits hard, suddenly and without warning, perfectly timed to jolt you out of any sense of comfort.
The whole concept and setting feel thoughtfully put together. There’s a quiet precision to everything — every object, every silence, every strange moment seems to serve a purpose. The game never explains too much at first, which only adds to the tension and mystery.
What truly stands out are the characters, especially the "mother." She’s a perfect example of the uncanny valley — visually off, almost puppet-like, and emotionally dissonant. Her appearance alone raises questions, but then she speaks with oddly sincere, even loving lines, as if she genuinely cares. It’s deeply unsettling. You’re constantly torn between suspicion and empathy.
Her stiff, sometimes jerky movements paired with cold, contradictory statements make for a haunting presence. The discomfort never fades — it just shifts, grows, evolves. I’ve never played a game that maintains that uncanny tension so consistently and convincingly.
I won’t give away any spoilers here, because MOTHERED is best experienced with as little prior knowledge as possible.
10/10 – An unsettling horror game that tells its story in its own strange way and stays with you long after. Every fan of psychological horror should play this.

Actually depressing. I don't know how to explain it, but this game made me feel bad, like actually devasted. I'm not really familiar with the lore of the other games in the trilogy so this was a complete new experience, and i have to say, "Mothered: A Role-Playing Horror Game" is one of the best horror games i've ever played. The horror is not really on the "Scary/on your face" side (despite having some chilling moments), but on the existencial dread side. I felt like a lost child in a mall, but the mall doens't really exist, my mother isn't even really my mother, and i'm not even a child (IFYKYK).
Also, the aesthetics are amazing, despite being kind of low poly, everything just feels so realistic in a way, really immersive. The art direction is just so fcking good!!!!! I love it.
Really looking forward to playing the rest of the trilogy!
ps: I also played the "secret" Sequel, "Mothered: Home", and everything i said about the first game still stands!! Even more surreal and Uncanny, i can't help it but praise the developer for it.
All of it made me think about the amazing artist David Lynch, i feel like he would love this (David i miss you, hope you're doing well in heaven, if it exists).

This game on the surface is very basic, but as you move through the story, and find more and more, it will leave you with an unforgettable experience.
The atmosphere, and the basic moving around was incredibly unsettling and had me on edge, then as you come to understandings, your intrigue will be piqued beyond belief.

Самый главный хоррор здесь - это поиск ебучих яблок на березах с кленовыми листьями и непроходимая тупость лвл дизайна. Никакие сюжетно важные объекты не подсвечены, поэтому красные яблоки придется искать прямо среди красной низкополигональной кроны деревьев.
На протяжении всей игры тебе так и тычут в лицо её линейностью (что, конечно, оправдывается сюжетно, но это другой разговор), а при повторном взаимодействии с объектами тебе лишь повторяют одни и те же строчки текста. Всё это для того, чтобы потом оказалось, что в воскресенье утром тебе ВДРУГ надо 2 раза подряд нажать на проклятый завтрак, ведь иначе скрипт со звонком отца не сработает и ты просто не сможешь продвинуться дальше. Восторг.
Пережив квест с поиском несостоявшихся плодов гибрида яблони с двумя другими деревьями, следующим испытанием становится попытка понять, что мать хочет от тебя в амбаре. Только благодаря тому, что я посмотрела прохождение другого человека, удалось понять, что "встань как можно ближе" и "посмотри на закат" означает, что необходимо встать на доску и не просто смотреть на закат, а НАЖАТЬ на него. Пик геймдизайна. Absolute cinema.
3/10 за сюжет и атмосферу, но геймдизайн - просто ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Лучше бы на эти 250р кофе купила, честное слово. Зато заставила подругу страдать со мной и проходить эту игру дабы добить мне последнюю ачивку, потому что третий реран я бы не выдержала :)
Eine Fantastisch Düstere, kryptische und einzigartige Story. Unglaublich gut geschriebene Texte, beinahe auf Stephen King level. Für Leute die es mögen sich beim spielen richtig schlecht zu fühlen (im bestmöglichen sinne natürlich)

Easily one of best horror games out there. It's unreasonably good.
It's not in-your-face horror. It's way more subtle and foreboding. The graphics and sound design create a deeply unsettling atmosphere. There's a constant sense of dread despite the lack of jump scares or obvious threats.
What really makes the game special however, is its impeccable storytelling and world-building. It doesn't rely on random notes scattered around the environment, a tired trope in horror games which we've all come to detest. It's all about the increasingly bizarre dialogue with the few in-game characters and absurd interactions with the game world, for which there's no apparent explanation at first. Absolutely nothing makes sense but the game allows the player to slowly figure out most of the mystery himself. There's a lot of little details in the environment and dialogue that, in hindsight, are sources of euroka moments for the player. A lot of those are never acknowledged by the game; the player just [i]knows[/i]. It's beautiful game design.
The game also really sticks the landing and wraps everything up nicely. There are no copouts or loose ends. It's a great self-contained story in a small but brilliantly-crafted world. If there's criticisim to be had, it's the horrible, horrible orchard fetch quest, where you're reminded you're playing a video game for once. Although it does serve a clear storytelling purpose, it also ruins the incredibly immersive experience somewhat.
MOTHERED is still an easy 10/10 for me though. Not only is it really, REALLY good, it is also a highly unique experience. I don't know anything quite like it. It's very impressive.

I went into this game completely blind, the only context I had was watching the trailer for it and playing The Enigma Machine (this is a sequel). For an unassuming $10, I got way more than what I payed for. It is genuinely criminal how so many people missed out on this game, maybe it really was a few years too early. It is a "role playing" game, in the sense of you have a role to play. There isn't a skill true or cool items, truly just a [ROLE]. What this game does really well is not show you all of its cards at once. It blatantly tells you one thing, but doesn't mind pulling the rug from underneath you because it feels like it. If you pay attention while doing a bit of exploring, you will be rewarded with an experience that will be hard to forget or compare to anything else. I truly love this game dearly and wish I had found it sooner. Please play this game I'm begging you
peak horror
I honestly went into this not expecting too much and I was left pleasantly surprised. No jump scares screaming in your face or blowing out your ear drums, just psychological horror in a pretty unique, and interesting story. Looking at the art style, I hadn't thought it would stand a chance at creeping me out, yet it did just that. The sound track alone had me pretty unsettled at times and that on top of the story made gave the game such an eerie feel to it.
