The game world, like most visual novels including MP1, is set on a 2D map with different backgrounds signifying different scenes. I’m disappointed to have noticed zero interactions the player can do with the camp setting - no explorations, no hidden anything to find. It’s just literally a copy/paste of MP1 with 5 zones to choose that each increase a different stat.
The narrative I found much better than MP1. I felt the characters were better written and more interesting, but at the same time, they didn’t interest me from a dating standpoint. Contrast to MP1, I enjoyed the date options there much more.
Still, I enjoyed the writing here and felt that each scene with the characters was creative and done well. While the game doesn’t really have a major plot, each character does have small “Hidden” plots, and the few I encountered seemed fun and well written as well.
[h1][b] Gameplay (Mechanics/Difficulty) – [6/10] [/b] [/h1]
The gameplay mostly remains the same - you choose a few starting questions, and then get locked into a date choice immediately at the start. You spend rounds at locations that boost your stats, and end with an event that is a right or wrong choice. All of this ends with you going on a date with the locked in choice or (most likely) getting rejected.
There are a few differences I noticed that I liked more than MP1. First, it doesn’t seem like the date success at the end is hard locked to a stat check, it just seems based on events succeeding now, good change. Another big difference is a drinking minigame where you get a drink that has a random effect on you. They range from pretty harmless like changing your name, to significant like making stat 0 and distributing the points across all other stats. I felt this was a nice shake-up to the formula.
The difficulty depends on what your objective is. If you are trying to get a secret or specific ending, you’re pretty much gonna need a guide, as all answers to choices are technically correct, it's just based on which stat is higher than another. If you’re just mucking around for some fun, then there is no failure options and it’s a casual game.

No real difference or improvement from MP1, but the art is good-looking. Perhaps a bit more vibrant from the camp setting, but really the same.
There is a notable lack of graphic options.

There are some more spoken dialog lines, but still just a few word quips.

Again, similar. You have a lot of achievements, lots of endings, and the option for co-op play. These combined add in a lot of replay value. Perhaps the biggest addition is the store, which promotes repeat runs through in-game currency and buyable goodies. I would have given this a 6, down from MP1’s 7, for failing to innovate here, but the shop is a big step in the right direction.

Monster Prom 2: Monster Camp (MP2) is another visual novel that has a very similar tone and the humor of MP1, but expands on it just enough to make it a sequel with some notable changes. If you haven’t read my review of MP1 (linked above), I did not recommend it because I felt it was gimmicky, overly reliant on stats, and gets repetitive pretty quickly. I’m happy to see that most of my big issues with MP1 has been addressed with MP2, but some still remain.
For my big positives, I felt that the mechanical differences to stats, some additional gameplay mechanics like the drinks, and the better writing was enough to boost it into a better territory. Add in some cool new features like the shop, custom game settings, and MP2 is looking much better for me.
I still think there’s room for improvements. I still don’t like how I can’t save a game when playing single player, this makes me never want to play 60-minute games and stick to 30. Also, it’s pretty much a basic requirement for visual novel games to have a chat log/history, yet MP as a series continues to omit this basic feature. I do still have an issue with how the choices work with the stats, but I still think it’s better implemented here than in MP1.
Overall, I do recommend MP2. There’s enough improvements here that I can happily say that I’m enjoying MP. My wish for a visual novel in the MP universe is to have a game with an actual over-arching story instead of useless event-based tidbits, but I can respect the direction MP games want to go in.

Truly an outstanding title in my opinion. The (mostly) witty humour, the lore woven into the various events, the myriad of different whacky characters, the gorgeous art all come together into a truly wonderful experience that I'd very much reccomend anyone pick up (as long as you read what exactly you're getting into beforehand ofc). Big fan of the franchise as a whole, and even though the multiplayer is a big aspect of all the games its more than worth playing solo, I personally never got bored of it. Also, the voice acting and soundtracks are great as well.

I have all the monster prom games and this one is by far the best to me. The character designs have way more diversity, they have way more events and endings, i also like the idea of the shop they included you can visit after you finish a game to see the process of what it took to make the game.

Stupid but hilarious, as well as the multiple jokes the game throws at us. Honestly stop reading this review and get the game. Find a friend (I Know you have at least one) and play monster prom (The other person doesn't even have to own monster prom you can play through steam remote play!) SO stop reading and get the game!!

Finally reviewing this after god knows how long I've owned it. Basically an improvement on Monster Prom in everyway. PvP is more interesting thanks to Moss Mann and the Love Log, new stat starts for some of the Romantic Options, and the drinks are a fun way to shake things up! Monster Prom 1 but better.
This game coming up on 6 years old makes me want to crawl in a hole and pass out...

It has a great variety of characters I think monster camp in particular has the best play style. The drinks and the campfire are amazing additions.
It's sometimes hard (specially if your english skills aren't the best) but definetly still hella fun no matter if you play alone or with friends.

I love this game. Easily my favorite out of the Monster Prom series...although I have not played Roadtrip just yet so that may change.
Juan is such a fun character and his drink stats are fantastic. The new dateable characters are even better than the ones from the first game in personality I feel. I'm also so happy they got rid of that pesky money stat in this one. I think the camp location allows for way more wacky adventures than the school did, Or even the Con in Monster Com. All of the DLC are so cool as well!!! Cute playable characters and the outfits are fantastic. The new sabotage features and drink minigame are exciting too.
You don't even particularly need to have played the last game (or remember it that well) to play this one. If you don't want spoilers for it, you can turn them off. The characters are all pretty easy to get a handle on as well without it. I would suggest playing just because most of the interests and some of the playable dlc this time used to be minor or datable characters in the last game, but it's not that important.
My only issue is that I do think the sound effects in the music (or maybe they're ambiance?), like the cat meowing in the background, can get a little annoying. Also, sometimes with the outfits, it can be very very hard to tell exactly which pack they came from at immediate first glance (which isn't a problem if you just have one on. But it does feel like they could've been more specific at times.)
Another thing, I don't know if this is a game related thing or a steam issue but, !!(Spoilers here for a secret ending)!! I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD HAVE THE "This is THE Cat!" ACHIEVEMENT BUT FOR SOME REASON I DON'T??? I got that ending FIRST TRY. SECOND MILO GAME RUN. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT EXISTED. I HAD MY STAT CHECK TURNED OFF. I'm wondering if there's another random quest I have to do in the game to also trigger it. But I won that ending fair in square.

I wish I liked Monster Prom more. I wish I really did. The character designs are great, the art is amazing, but at best this is just a visual novel game. It's fun to have your friends play with you and do voices, but in terms of gameplay it's extremely lacking.
I really wish this was more like a Mario Party game in terms of gameplay. It comes so close to it, but in the end you're just trying to get high enough stats to get an ending with a character you like. That's about it. Multiplayer even if it's "slightly" competitive is just the same. Who can get the most points, items, and get an ending to "win."
Should you not get this game? I can't say for sure. Do you like visual novel games? Go for it. Though if anyone tells you "Oh it's like Mario Party" or something like that? It ain't that. I do wish there was a mid option.
This is the goofiest game I've ever played and I love it. Such a great blast with friends or even by yourself.

⛺ A continuation of the humorous chaos in the best absurd traditions. If you're looking to have a laugh and have fun, alone or with friends, this is the best choice, BUT if you're actually going to beat it, even with just one love interest (not a PC guy), FORGET IT. It's impossible, and if anyone tells you otherwise, they're either lying or untruly lucky! Even with high stats and the right answers, you're screwed. The in-game "guide" to who likes what is the most useless thing in the universe. The success of your answers depends on your stats, and you'll never know which ones, even if you remember your previous choices. For a true chaos game, such a rigid adherence to stat numbers is astounding, making the game impossible to complete on a specific route, given the ~1200 possible outcomes, and unknown cocktails (new system) can ruin your run at any moment! Forget about trying to get anyone, just have fun!

The game is just an improvement from the last, it's so fun with a bunch of new characters you can learn and date as well as an awesome new settings with a fun twist when it comes to drinking. No game will ever be the same and it's a great time with friends

Even though I prefer the game principle of Monster Prom 3: Monster Roadtrip, as the binary "correct or not correct"-answering due to which stats probably belong to which answer feels a bit tedious and unclear.
I recommend the Steam Workshop-Mod "Stat translation" to make things easier, and also the Manual in the Meta-Shop.

Much like the last game in this series the writing is laugh out loud funny. The addition of guides is a welcome change and after eight hours I have ALMOST figured out how to get a second date.
Enjoyed this even more than the first one (somehow)! I like that instead of needing to unlock a bunch of different items to get each main character's secret endings, you just need to get one (Flask Genie). I also like how in pre-game you can pick from a wide variety of items to make your own STATs build rather than relying on getting two specific questions from a quiz like in the first game. Again, I think the STAT requirements for each character aren't very clear (and I find it questionable that the in-game guide is not only vague but locked behind a digital currency paywall), but I understand that at least part of that is because this game is designed with multiplayer in mind (I just play it alone lmao).
Overall a great game and I'm excited to play Roadtrip and Con next!!

Ich bin ein Monster Prom Fan seit 2018 und ich habe dieses Spiel sofort gekauft als es raus kam. Allerdings war ich damals so sehr von dem Spiel enttäuscht, dass ich es nie mehr angefasst habe. Bis heute. Ich weis nicht mal mehr warum ich so enttäuscht war, aber als ich vor einigen Tagen gesehen habe dass Monster Prom 4 raus kam dachte ich mir ich spiele alle vorigen Teile nochmal erneut und ich musste feststellen, obwohl ich mit einer "null bock" Einstellung in den zweiten Teil rein bin, dass mir das Spiel super viel spaß macht. Ich vermute mal, damals vor 6 Jahren war ich noch anders drauf, dass ich mich verändert habe und das was ich in Spielen suche hat sich auch verändert.
Kann es jedem empfehlen der den ersten Teil auch mochte.

I enjoyed it less than the first. It doesn't change much compared to the first one. You still need to choose one to date, and you must choose the answer that suits them. It doesn't have much variety. It is just not fun, maybe in co-op.
The choice what to answer makes no sense. I can never understand which answer is considered "bold", "smart" etc. If I want to succeed in any parts of this game I need a guide on my second screen.

In all seriousness though, this is a fun game. You should check it out. Also, buy the DLC, especially the playable characters. If you want to choose just one DLC pack to start off with, I suggest the Colorful Campers pack, because it gives you the ability to be pink, orange, turquoise, or violet, rather than just the standard red, yellow, blue, or green.

People sometimes say that the sequels are worse. And it's true, it's not easy to make a sequel since it will always be compared to the original work. Monster Camp works similarly to it's predecessor with small gameplay changes but it does not feel repetitive or boring. There are many new characters but the ones that appeared in previous game are nicely fleshed out. Writing is witty as in the previous game, I love this humor, please never change. Artwork is visibly upgraded from the first game (especially before the first game got a visual upgrade) but the vibe stays the same and is cohesive with the franchise. I think it might be my favorite game from all of the currently existing four.
Wanna date some monsters (again) but eat marshmallows this time? Then go play this game

Second installment of the series. Publicized as a "dating sim", it's more like a teen cartoonish parent-approved visual novel, as you have limited choices and everything is dialogue based. Speaking of that, it's unacceptable for this type of game that it's only in English - if that is not your mother tongue, don't buy it, you'll miss 50% of the experience.
It's more polished than the first one, but it's just "more of the same" and it shares the same flaws. It would have been a nicer experience with some sexual references, like big monstrous titties, robotic ABS, nice furry asses. As it is now, it's an okay game, just boring.

Resultó ser un juego diferente a lo que esperaba, pero me gustó. Su arte es carismático, los diseños de los personajes son muy graciosos y la banda sonora es buena; de hecho, me encanta escuchar la canción de los créditos al final de cada partida.
LO BUENO:
Partidas rápidas y adictivas: Las partidas cortas duran alrededor de una hora, y las largas, hora y media, lo que lo hace perfecto para jugar en sesiones breves.
Humor moderno y sin filtros: El juego está repleto de un humor adulto, con infinitas referencias a la cultura pop y parodias directas de muchos temas de la sociedad actual.
Personajes carismáticos: Tanto los personajes jugables como los intereses románticos tienen diseños estéticos y personalidades encantadoras. Hay opciones para casi todos los gustos.
Guías integradas: El juego incluye tutoriales y guías dentro del juego, que se desbloquean con el progreso en una tienda ingame. Esto evita tener que buscar constantemente en internet cómo avanzar o conquistar a un personaje.
LO MALO:
Mecánicas no convencionales: No es un simulador de citas tradicional. En lugar de elegir diálogos basados en la afinidad con los personajes, el juego se centra en superar "checks" de estadísticas. Al final de la partida, los personajes eligen pareja en función de estos atributos.
Sistema de "insight": El juego reta al jugador a adivinar a qué estadística corresponde cada opción de diálogo, siendo cada diálogo una especie de "check", tienes que aprender a que stat se vincula cada diálogo... Esto requiere familiarizarse bien con el humor del juego, una mecánica que no disfruté del todo, a mi me costaba mucho distinguir si las opciones de diálogo aludían a la inteligencia o a la creatividad y distinguir tal detalle es muy importante en el juego.
LO NEUTRO:
Barrera del idioma: El juego solo está en inglés, lo que puede ser un obstáculo para algunos, especialmente para entender los matices del humor y el sistema de "inshight" que mencioné antes.
Humor muy específico: Su humor es muy "americano", con muchos chistes arraigados en su cultura pop e internet. Si no estás familiarizado, te perderás muchas referencias.
DLCs prescindibles: Los DLCs de skins, aunque incluyen diálogos personalizados, no son muy atractivos y no encajan del todo con la ambientación del campamento. Son, principalmente, una forma de apoyar a los desarrolladores, lo cual me parece correcto.
En resumen:
Es un juego de nicho con alrededor de 40.000 líneas de diálogo, lo que garantiza muchas conversaciones graciosas y finales por descubrir. Personalmente, con 6 horas de juego y un par de finales, sentí que fue una experiencia suficiente para mi, no me siento incentivado a continuar. Suele estar más barato en GOG (y sin DRM), tiene un precio accesible y una demo para probarlo antes de comprar. Recomendado.
the first game was okay, so i didnt expect much going into this game honestly. but instantly i found the romanceable cast wayyyyy more interesting than the original!! i think the vibes in general of this game are way more my speed, it has the same silly humor as the first, but at least in my opinion the way the humor is in this game didn't age poorly like the original (playing the first game for me just feels like ive been teleported back to 2016) i think if you didnt like the original you should give this installment a chance!!

To be blunt, i was never a big fan of the first game. i didn't completely hate it and it got my creative juices flowing which lead to me making my own zombie oc (do not steal), but idk i wasn't a big fan of the games humour imo since it kinda bordered on millennial humour. and the game was really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at first and it felt like i was making the right choices and trying to understand the games logic but then it just didn't work, but after a bit i got used to how these games work and what kinda logic you have to apply to get a good ending. and the humour grew on me after a while and can be decently humourus at times
and then at a certain point i realised i actually kinda like this game and will be playing the other sequels

I'll be completely honest... Hated the first Monster Prom... Hated the second, will probably hate the third... and will hate on this game composition so long as I'm a gamer.
That being said, the biggest issue lies in the game's composition. With the already overflowing hate for narrative-driven Visual Novels that are not interactive in the slightest, Monster Camp often substitutes forced jokes and random internet slang for genuine personality. Many of the jokes fall flat or feel recycled from the first game, and the pacing suffers because of it. Conversations drag, and the story events lack any tight comedic relif.
Gameplay-wise, it’s more of the same, but not in a good way. The new camp setting doesn’t add much to the formula beyond a few reskinned locations, and the decision-making system feels less impactful than before. The “choose-your-own-adventure” style still exists, but the outcomes are often predictable or nonsensical, giving me less incentive to replay.
Even the multiplayer, once the series’ biggest strength, is completely dead, as unlike myself many players seem to have moved on from this "intriguing" styles of videogames and unto the more "familiar" territory.
In short, Monster Prom 2 feels like a sequel made out of obligation rather than inspiration — To me, a Rogue-Like Visual Novel game is an abomination that should've never existed in the first place... To other players I've asked about the game, they have played this sequel just because "well I played the first one and it was weird, kind of intriguing, but this one is just flat out bad!" Score? [b]1/10[/b] just because I like being the fella Yellow. Other than that, hard pass!
Ehh, I just played Monster Prom for hours and was blown away by the fun dialogues. I loved the short and mosty completely random and stupid shenanigans the characters were into. In Monster Camp i just felt like everyone was so serious or cringe (like, i know this is a game about monsters it takes something to feel cringe) and the texts just went on forever i got so lost in what was happening at all. Also it's just randomly harder than the first game...why?
Srsly I just wanted to have fun with dorky noodles like polly, scott, miranda, etc. I tried 3 different runs and finished none because it just felt boring, with overly long dialogues, no fun. When I play this game I feel like Polly when she dumps me because i haven't maxed out FUN. Sorry. Trying Monster Road Trip now.
This one is by far my favorite of the monster prom franchise, and it's ending theme is genuinly in my top 3 favorite songs of all time.

I made the mistake (or maybe it was luck, because otherwise I might not have played it) of playing the fourth one before this one. I loved the fourth one, but I think this one is inferior in every way. The scenes are quite boring, the choices are meaningless coin tosses, and the characters you can romance (especially the male ones) are terrible. Some friends and I gave it a try and went back to the fourth game after spending an hour playing this one. The only positive thing is the workshop.

trying so hard to be woke and funny it turns incredibly cringe and makes all characters obnoxious. to finalize why i dislike it, the choices are so terribly unclear and then you're stuck with one character to date from the start. this feels more like the worst rogue-lite to exist than a dating sim

i love, love, loveeee that there's a new set of romanceable characters!! there are familiar faces of course but their group is such a good mix!!
stellar designs, lovable characters, wacky and silly and chaotic interactions as expected. played with my friends and we all had a blast just like with monster prom!! i would admit that monster prom got me with nostalgia, but gameplay wise i would say that i DEF enjoyed monster camp more. this being the second part of monster prom franchise just fits so well <33
