It's very replayable, but the post-game content is brutal
Moékuri: Adorable + Tactical SRPG is an indie tactical role-playing game developed by MokyuSoft and published by Culture Select that thrives on contrast, pairing an unapologetically cute anime presentation with a surprisingly demanding and systems-driven combat experience. At first glance, its soft colors, expressive character art, and “moé” aesthetic suggest a lighthearted strategy game meant for casual play, but beneath that exterior lies a grid-based SRPG that rewards careful planning, long-term thinking, and a strong understanding of its many interlocking mechanics. This contrast is central to Moékuri’s identity and one of the reasons it has maintained a dedicated following since its release.
The game’s narrative serves as a gentle framework rather than a driving force, focusing on Iruse Strenz, a young summoner capable of calling forth creatures from a magical book known as the Nursery Rhyme. Her journey begins with simple training alongside her friend Nika and gradually expands into a broader conflict involving mysterious forces and the legacy of her missing mother. The story unfolds across a series of chapters and battles, providing context and character motivation without overwhelming the player with exposition. While the plot is straightforward and occasionally predictable, it complements the game’s tone and gives emotional grounding to the tactical challenges without distracting from them.
Combat is where Moékuri truly distinguishes itself. Battles take place on grid-based maps where positioning, timing, and resource management are critical. Rather than deploying all units immediately, players must summon creatures over multiple turns, with stronger allies requiring more preparation time and investment. This creates meaningful strategic tension, as early turns often involve deciding whether to establish board presence with weaker units or hold back resources for powerful summons that can dominate later phases of a fight. Terrain effects, attack ranges, elemental interactions, and status conditions all factor into decision-making, giving encounters a layered complexity that rewards foresight and adaptability.
One of the game’s most impressive aspects is its sheer variety of characters and creatures. With well over a hundred summonable units and a large cast of distinct characters, Moékuri offers a level of diversity that encourages experimentation. Each creature is individually illustrated and comes with its own abilities and quirks, allowing for a wide range of tactical synergies. Team composition becomes a game in itself, as players mix and match units to suit their preferred playstyle, whether that means overwhelming offense, careful defensive setups, or clever use of debuffs and battlefield control. This depth gives the game strong replay value, as different strategies can dramatically alter how battles play out.
The game’s visual presentation reinforces its charm while remaining functional for tactical play. Character art is expressive and colorful, clearly communicating personality and role, while battlefields are kept relatively simple to maintain clarity during complex encounters. Animations are modest but effective, ensuring that actions are readable without slowing the pace of combat. Sound design further enhances the experience, with voice clips and effects that give characters personality and energy, even during routine interactions. While the overall production values reflect its indie roots, the cohesive art direction helps Moékuri stand out among other SRPGs.
Despite its strengths, the game does show some rough edges. The user interface can feel unintuitive at times, with menus and systems that require patience to fully understand. Some quality-of-life features common in larger tactical RPGs are either minimal or absent, which can make managing large rosters and complex setups feel cumbersome. Difficulty spikes can also catch players off guard, especially those drawn in by the game’s cute appearance without expecting a serious tactical challenge. These moments can be frustrating, but they also reinforce the game’s emphasis on preparation and learning from mistakes.
Pacing is generally well handled, with battles steadily increasing in complexity as new mechanics and stronger enemies are introduced. The game rarely feels rushed, allowing players time to adjust to its systems, though the later stages demand a solid grasp of strategy and unit synergy. For players willing to engage deeply, this progression feels rewarding rather than punishing, as victories come from understanding and mastery rather than grinding alone.
Ultimately, Moékuri: Adorable + Tactical SRPG is a game that succeeds by embracing its contradictions. It offers a warm, inviting aesthetic paired with genuinely thoughtful and demanding tactical gameplay, appealing to players who enjoy strategy but also appreciate personality and charm. While it may lack the polish and narrative depth of larger SRPG franchises, it compensates with variety, mechanical depth, and a clear passion for its genre. For fans of grid-based tactics, creature collection, and anime-inspired visuals, Moékuri delivers an experience that is far more substantial than its adorable surface might initially suggest.
Rating: 8/10
Very unique gameplay mechanics along with great visual art style!
My opinions are very mixed so take this thumbs up with a grain of salt, but I think more people should play doujin titles regardless so tl;dr at least check it out when it's on sale
I didn't enjoy my time with Moekuri quite as much as I was hoping, for a variety of reasons, some of which aren't really its fault. For some ungodly reason I binged what I'd say was a genuinely unhealthy amount of this game (like 18 stages not even including free battles) in one day, and thus certain aspects wore me out much more than if I had just spread out my time a little more and not been so focused on finishing. Also, I think I'm just very picky with srpgs compared to other rpg genres.
That aside, while overall this is probably one of my least favorite doujinsoft titles I've played, it was still a relatively nice time. The monster girl designs are generally speaking fun (was surprised by the diversity of picks, like the Hindu gods and Ullikummi; the latter and some others are niche enough you'd only expect to see them in MegaTen) and it was cool how they all had different VAs and artists. The game mixes the creature collector style and srpg style fairly well. I think the music is freeware and it generally does its job, though the first battle track is pretty damn groovy. There's lots of mechanics that give plenty of depth if you want it and lots of potential for team build varieties.
For the negatives, the story was kind of a nothingburger I couldn't bring myself to care about (though yay for the lesbian princess). Besides that, to me, a lot of the gameplay was kind of a drag. A lot of the times it felt like either my party members or Iruse were doing much, which I think is because I was expected to grind way more than I did. Most times I attempted build variety didn't go very well either. Also, a lot of the late game devolved into just wailing on the master to secure a win without even paying attention to its other summoned goons. Also felt like Iruse spent most of the fights getting SP for her summons but I also think I picked a pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ class for a first time run even though the game said it was beginner friendly (the status effect one).
All that said, it doesn't really overstay its welcome, and while I think some of the doujin game jank affects this work more negatively than it does others, it's still very charming. The game as a whole is very cute and the gameplay is satisfying once you get a hang of it. If you like indie Japanese titles and SRPGs, give it a shot at least.
Will say though, damn shame the achievement for completing the game is so rare that it has the little glowy border for achievements less than 10% of players get. I guess most people pick this up on sale and just forget about it in the sea of their backlog. Even though I have my problems with it, I think it does deserve a fair chance.
Also also, gotta say, while it might not have been my thing, Moekuri PvP would kinda go hard.
[Copied from my backloggd except for that first line]
Indy Creature Collector Strategy game with a very rough UI but a lot of heart.
+ Lots of creatures to collect. All described creatures are in theory? cute girls? taste my vary. You can level monsters and even invest stat points to use whatever monsters are your favorites. Its fun to go catch new more powerful monsters as well. Lots of unique choose your own way to play strategies and combinations. Feels overwhelming with options at some points but most of the game lets you approach it however you want ( not very demanding strategy-wise could be a negative)
- UI is some rough jank. The User interface is not very attractive and you will need to learn what things represent. UI is readable enough to understand with shorthand you will need to learn (a positive if you like complexity) . Art for the monsters is done by different artist all smashed together with varying quality HOWEVER the Spites on the map and human character portraits are all done by the same person which goes a long way to increasing the quality of the games presentation (the sprites are cute). Story is the definition of cute girls cute things bare-bones, though there were some funny moments. Story never felt like the driving factor for this game. Game balance might be all over the place ( though in theory this is a positive as the game provides a lot of unique options rather than equal options )
* A somewhat loosey goosey strategy game, very open ended in approach.
* Creatures all being cute girls is either going to ruin or make this game for most people
Good purchase for people willing to deal with some Jank in a unique strategy game with some tolerance to anime generico. I bought the game because of the creature collection x grid based strategy concept and even grew to have some favorites I was attached to of the monsters. I dont regret my purchase.
It's a cute, simple, collect em all title.
It's like a mix of a simplistic turn based tactics game and pokemon. The story is lame but the battles actually aren't bad. Nice atmosphere. Cute graphics. All innocent mind, it's not THAT type of game. The battles are short and not all that involved. Completing one takes around 15 minutes maybe, if that.
Is it worth $12? I don't remember if I got it on sale but I wouldn't feel ripped off at $12 and I don't even usually play pokemon types of games. It's worthwhile.
This thing gets soooo repetitive, if monster girls is the only thing you need to play the game, that's what it has.
A Cute Game with surprisingly indepth gameplay
Moekuri is a mixed bag of a game to recommend. Speaking freely, the gameplay is quite fun and I would argue it handles the 'Collect them all' gameplay fairly well. There's a myriad of ways to play and there's no one definitive way to win. It's not a perfect experience though, as the game lacks in several departments.
Good

Tactical Gameplay
- It's a very in depth game with many bonus challenges in the post game, and even considering just the maingame you'll have plenty of fun trying to make your class work with the creatures you chose. Personally, I chose to focus on two typings with an Evoker class and found almost the entire game to be manageable, while still being quite entertaining. There are certain creatures that are far and away top tier options, but I would argue you're never forced to use them and they have their own costs that can't be ignored.
Great 'Collect em all' Styling
- The main way to get new creatures is to simply either buy them with gems at random or to capture them in battles. Considering you can capture even in Story Battles or the post game, should it be compatible, and it gives you a myriad of options. I must note however that certain characters can only be unlocked with the gem purchases at random, so it may take quite some luck, or more hitting 'New + Unowned' and paying 60 gems for a new creature. I wish that the game gave out more gems, it does detract the experience for completionists that it takes so long to grind, but for general players it shouldn't be an issue.
Neutral

Music
- I would argue that the music is more or less fine in this game, but considering how often you repeat basic stages, it's a shame that the game doesn't offer a jukebox mode, even in the postgame, so you can listen to the interesting songs the game has to offer, instead of the same four or five songs while grinding for gems.
Bad

Artstyle
- The art style in this game is nice in terms of the in battle sprites, don't get me wrong, and it's consistent with the story segments. However, the art of the actual creatures that you're spending 90% of the playtime looking at is... inconsistent. There's a myriad of artists involved with this game, and there are certainly some winners when it comes to art... and there are the others. I'm glad that it allowed more artists to spend time working on art for a game, but I can't help but feel that it detracts from the game's overall feel. At the very least, it does give it it's own unique feeling.
Story
- While I spent time trying to argue my way that the art style is fine, I can't do the same for the story. The story was lacking, and overall felt that it both dragged on and was being rushed through at lightning speeds at the same time. Overall, I would almost argue that skipping the story segments may be the best, keyword almost. It's not that long to read, and there's a few times that it's fine, but I would not call it good by any stretch of the imagination.
Lack of QOL
- One of the larger issues for me is the overall lack of QOL for players. I can understand not having any full auto modes for the main story, to encourage players to at least try and pay attention, but even in the postgame where it's finally time to try and collect everything is a shame. With an Achievement that wants you to win 500 Battles, something that will be the last achievement you will get, even after all the Collection achievements, it's a shame that there's nothing in the post game to simply have your character just move and attack automatically. There is a certain character that can at least do that, but since it won't end the turn automatically due to not wanting to take away your ability to summon, there's little point... especially as the only character that can do this is only unlocked after doing one of the hardest trials in the game, where realistically you should've finished your post game grinding already. Finally: While gems are used to unlock characters, they're given out far too infrequently to ever recommend using until it's time for the postgame grind, as it requires 60 gems to guarantee a new unit, while the best lategame stage will only give 15 gems after a few minutes of fighting. Notably: If the game offered discounted gems, say 5 games for beating a stage with level 20-30 units, at least that could give you options if you had a way to beat those stages much quicker, but the game will stop rewarding gems after you pass them in level by a certain point.
Tedious Achievements
- If you're not aiming to 100% the game, I would argue this isn't really an issue... but the game doesn't respect your time when it comes to fully completing it. Achievements such as 'collect everyone' are to be expected, and I don't shame the game for that. Rather: Achievements that require you to deal 999+ damage in a single swing can tedious when the main methodology to doing so is spending 50-100 turns buffing your characters while the enemies can't fight back, and it's not the only achievement that feels needlessly created. 250 Won Battles is a perfect number to aim for when completing everything, but 500 is a joke. Killing 5 enemies at once is fine, 20 is a little much when there's only so many stages that allow for that many characters to be out at once, let alone be within range for defeat. If these in game achievements at least awarded you with gems, say 100~, it'd at least reward you for trying by allowing you to collect new creatures for spending your time on this... but I'm afraid it doesn't.
Final Thoughts
The game is great, only in regards for the tactical gameplay it offers. If you're looking for anything else, try to find a better game, you'll spend your time better. Still, if it's tactician gameplay you're looking for, this game won't disappoint.
A cute and funny creature collector tactics, type game. Also one that is surprisingly difficult.

main girls are drawn by KOI SENSEI! LONG LIVE GOCHIUSA!
It gets better after a time but the start and the UI does not help
The first map/tutorial should be reviewed and its difficulty lowered (you can easily die too many times, and the "advice" is incorrect as you cannot summon any monster at the time)
I even checked on the net and found an old lets play where you can summon monsters in this first figth. But not anymore..
Regarding the UI :
Every time you want to move, the portrait of your character appears on the half right of the screen, hiding cell where you could move. you should then rotate, but well it does make it so much better....
And you often have to rotate because the isometric view oftens hides where you want to go. Doing it with the mouse makes you exit the menu, but you need to first open the menu to move....
You can zoom in with mouse, but not max zoom out
The "escape button" directly triggers a popup asking you if you want to close the game. This can also freeze/crash your game because to continue playing you need to close this pop-up. But to close it, you have to alt-tab. And alt-tabbing regularly freeze the game when playing in full screen mode

Cute but wasn't really for me.

I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, picked my character and world and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.
This game is very difficult with not way to balance it out. Good luck if you pick it up!

great game, love it too, sadly can't recommend it cause it's been stuck at version 1.07 for years now, the latest one is 1.10 on their website which is only in Japanese, which you know really sucks, version 1.08 added some content, 1.09 was just a bug fix, and i think 1.10 added more content too.
cue and funny
cant say much about this game just that its a nice game when you want to waste some time
Pretty hard but rewarding! Worth getting for board games fans and anime.
Unsuprassed turn-based strategy RPG gameplay, well worth the time of any fan of the genre. There's a massive roster of characters to choose from, with an incredibly wide variety of abilities to choose from. But, even the most seemingly over-the-top abilities are carefully balanced, so none of them feel like an auto-include. This creates an immense amount of replay value.
Personally, the art style was a turn-off for me initially, but you quickly get used to it. The choice to use such simple terrain graphics is a marketing liability, but makes perfect sense from a gameplay perspective (some characters can change the terrain, and most characters benefit from considering terrain characteristics when positioning). The character art is too cutesy for my taste, but this doesn't interfere with the gameplay at all.
My point is, if you like turn-based strategy RPGs, don't let the art stop you from buying this game. It's definitely worth playing. My one complaint is that with so many options, it takes a very long time to unlock them all.

Final Fantasy Tactics meets Pokemon, if everyone was a waifu.
Each unit has a particular set of skills and spells, with customizable loadouts based on player's choosing. Certain characters, especially those recruitable at the beginning, don't have that long of an available list, but they might have stats that make up for it.
The main character also functions like a Fire Emblem lord, with skills and abilities of their own, but if they go down the fight is over. Strategies along the lines of taking down the enemy commander apply. Units that aren't your main character are slowly summoned on the field, though some are quicker to appear than others. Some really powerful units take multiple turns to appear, but I've found that usually isn't worth it if they show up after other allies have been beaten senseless.
There's a decent variety of skills, but the mechanics are pretty simple. Still, it's a pretty fun SRPG
steam(定価1100円)
The 'tactical' part of this game is no joke, the difficulty curve is steep. The main story gets pretty hard, but the post game is ridiculous, I love it. The hardest part of it is finding a strategy that works, you have limited resources and every action depletes them, so every move counts. The story isn't it's strong point, it's quick and to-the-point with not a whole lot of depth. I get the idea that this game was more focused around the battle mechanics and less the story, which is fine!
A big complaint (everyone seems to have) is with the graphics. The game runs in 800x600, the window is locked, and fullscreen stretches it so much you can't even see. The only way I was able to play it was using a 3rd party program to stretch the window to double, and use some reshade 2d shaders to blur it a bit + some vibrance to make it less washed out.
It's a great game, well worth the effort of buying a magnifying glass to play it.
full-screen doesn't work and wtf is 800x600 in this time period. just try squinting to play this on a 4k monitor. although from the tutorial i see alot of generic but it would have been nice to at least try this out.
A very barebones game, both in terms of presentation (one look at the map shows the absolute lack of effort put into it) and gameplay. There are a handful of good ideas, but they are buried deep under the boredom of how repetitive everything is.

This is a great game, but I can't recommend it because my saves keep getting deleted every time I take a break and come back to it later. And I made sure I saved my games too. It's fun to play, but not when you got to keep starting your game at the beginning.
This is a Japanese turn based tactical strategy game with light RPG elements. The game features a series of weeaboo friendly cutesy anime girls instead of summoned monsters/warriors etc that you would expect to see in this kind of game.
Apart from the mountain of cutesy manga girls the graphics are very minimal. Resolution is fixed and can't be changed. While there's some depth to the gameplay it doesn't fit at all well with the game genre. What's next, FPS games with teddy bears? This does feel a lot more like a mobile game than a dedicated PC game.
This seems like it would be okay for 50c to $1 but they're charging an inexplicable $17 for it... that could get you a reasonably new AAA tactical strategy game like the X-Com reboots, so it's impossible to recommend this.
Moekuri: Adorable + Tactical SRPG has done an amazing job at bringing back and improving the classic tactical RPG experience
Moekuri is a great turn-based tactics game that has a lot to offer. It is a tile-based game with 150+ unique creature characters that each have different movement styles, HP/Def/Attk levels, elements and attack patterns. There are 14 classes and every character can be leveled to reach different abilities. Most modes have a huge number of randomized maps that force the use of a variety of characters. This game has an incredible amount of depth and content.
Moekuri is an adorable game. Every character has not only been given a unique sprite, but also a unique portrait from the artist behind Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?. The main characters of the story are voiced by J. actors who clearly have experience in making cute voices.
Thanks for the free copy.
Cute game, love the Siren artwork.

Cheap, lot of content, good voice acting, cute yuri story.

Good Disgaea like game.

Surprisingly one of the most autisticly detailed tactics games I've played. Had a bizarre time playing the most moe necromancer to ever exist, flooding the field with animated cute girl zombies led by my demonic lieutenants cute girl Cerberus and cute girl Lilith while working towards the goal of figuring out how to control my very lucky early drop of cute girl Lucifer. It's also pretty damn gay which is cool.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1983652151

gay TRPG game i love it
(ill make a proper review later)
Moekuri: Adorable is a ridiculous but fun tactical RPG. Don't bother worrying about the story. It's tacked on, utterly forgettable(hell, I'm forgetting it other than something about some girl looking for...something and getting sidetracked doing things for....some reason), and unimportant. The graphics are...very minimalist. But if you want a game with huge unit variety that strongly encourages you to build in a variety of ways this game meets that goal. Each unit is based on some mythological monster or god and has a variety of active and passive abilities. Some work in very unique ways too. Even some seemingly negative abilities can suddenly be good when you realize how they work with the games systems. One thing to note, everything.....and I do mean everything is basically some cute little monster girl. From skeletons to Raiden it's always going to be some sort of cute girl. Hence the "adorable" part of the title. But don't let the cuteness fool you, this is a full on tactical game and the side missions can be brutally hard. Luckily the story mode is pretty easy with only a few missions that might catch you off guard with their difficulty and even that won't be overly hard.
If it was more expensive I probably would say hold off until a sale, but as it's a pretty cheap game I have no problem recommending it even at full price. You'll get your money's worth.
An interesting cross between a Tactics game, Pokemon, and Magic: the Gathering.
Over a hundred different collectible monsters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. The game has amazing variety in the number of different kinds of teams, from straightforward summon and beatdown teams to rushdown face-attacking teams to combo teams that make winning easy if they're allowed to get off the ground.
The sheer variety of monsters, skills, and Masters make Moekuri a must for tactics nerds.
Half and half regret I bought it.
Forgot about it till I read my own review again about it, now edited.
Well, it's a really simple game, but may be a good time-passer.
Look at gameplay, provides a reasonably accurate sample, but look critically at it.
Story is prolly good / OK for a game, certainly.
Quality Weeb Game, the battle graphics might be bad but the VO and gameplay was great
Nice game, good tactical mechanics and nice art.
2/10
There is no fullscreen mode, the quality of the character portraits is inconsistent, and the game feels amateur . Overall waste of time and money.
Found this game while looking for a game similar to pokemon but more strategic. It was exactly what I was looking for. Now it's 256 hours later...
Positives: endless team combos and customisability. Clever/well themed move-sets. Good level of difficulty.
Negatives: addictive af if you like this sort of thing :p
A chess board game with cute characters. Each character have a lot of ability & skills that you can change it up based on your strategy. Overall, this game is fun to play casually
Hour 0: Eh, I'm gonna pick Hunter since it's recommended and seems versatile.
Hour 1: Neat, I can summon Decoy to block enemy's movement
Hours 20: So I'm using this unit that powers up each time an allies dies, but Decoy counts as allies and I can summon them as many times as I want, so I'm using it to powers her up through the roof, while the Decoy disable all enemy unit since they can use Taunt. All the while I'm raising the elemental level to 4 and changing the weather to firestorm to increase my and all my unit's attack.
Hours 40: Eh, wait, this unit allow me to summon twice in one turn and combined with this other unit that reduce the time to summon unit of certain element I can summon my whole party by turn 3?
Eh, wait, this unit can swap it's summon time with another unit, and enables me to summon this unit that needs 22 turns to summon in just turn 7?
Chronos rushdown that can finish a battle in a couple of turns?
The shenanigans incarnate that is Illusionist?
I'm sold.
So many strategies to "cheese" the game, and yet the post-game content is still hard as balls even using them.
It's real fun thinking up how interaction of certain skills gonna "break" the game, and then finding out that your next enemy coincidentally use the very same strategy, except better since they optimized it.
You think a certain enemy unit is unfairly powerful? Well, most of them you can also get for yourself, either by receiving it randomly after defeating them, or by capturing it in Free Battle. And then you can one-up them by using it better than them.
The graphic interface is mostly barebone though, but I can bear with it since the gameplay is just so stellar.
Come for the Moe, stay for the surprising depth of the tactical gameplay.
It's cute, but a bit on the slow and repetitive side. For the few hours I've put in, the main strategy for the battles was to brute force through everything before I'd get bruteforced through.
This adorable game I tend to play on the go. It has a 2D chess format and tons of little monsters to collect. With varying skill and spell charts you can change up your strategy tremendously for varying matches. The game isn't very competitive so it's a nice one to play casually or to unwind.
