Don't buy, abandoned. Game had such character and potential. Keen did make the source code public and there is a community branch/build of the game with updates and mod support and there are a few community servers; but not really worth it.

I've had some fun with it. Unfortunately the physics system is bugged to hell and when something "breaks" you have to rebuild everything attached to that piece.
Load stress is the number one factor to the physics breaking objects that shouldn't be broken. It would be alright if the objects were meant to break but that there existed a reinforced version that didn't. However, these breakages are not by design. Or rather, it's by poor physics design.
All in all, I've had some fun with it, but due to these issues there's a hard limit to what you may build. I will be looking elsewhere for something equivalent to this game, hopefully I can find it. Preferably a game with a more robust physics system/engine.
But for 4€ it was quite enjoyable.
The game is abandoned. It bugs a lot even in single player. You have to UNLOCK ALWAYS the tech tree in any map. Finding ores is very difficult, specilly iron is scarce and you need to craft iron tools and weapons, the irony in itself. My experience is bad. Bugs happen mainly for desyncronization even if you are in single player not in a server.
And guides are horrible, don't say details, youtube videos are not guides, are streamers trying to find out how to do things, no guide videos. Clay is not well explained, it is not dig a bit, it is dig a lot, but the tutorial never tells you to take wood materal and tools to build ladders, literaly you make a deep hole and you can't get out without diagonal bulky ladders, not thin ladders. Tutorial don't explain correcty some things you need to find out by yourself, no it is not desgined like that it is abandoned development.

it's a lovely and calm game if you play the pve but if you have alot of friends pvp can be awesome highly recommend for friend groups that like kinda advanced medieval building/survival games

Medieval Engineers is one of the most underrated physics‑building sandboxes on Steam. Even unfinished, it nails things most games don’t even attempt — real structural integrity, siege mechanics, terrain shaping, and that classic Keen engineering feel.
Playing it today still makes me think about how incredible a fully realized sequel could be. A Medieval Engineers 2 with expanded physics, better stability, deeper building tools, and more polished systems would be something truly special.
This game had huge potential, and I hope Keen revisits it someday. There’s still a community here that believes in what Medieval Engineers started.

This game is cool and I like it, but the devs officially discontinued it. They handed the source code off to some community members. Updates are not to be expected. Whatever you are looking for, you'll probably find it elsewhere.

I really hate games that have a hunger mechanic but no sleep mechanic, and the nights are excruciatingly long. I can't even tell you how many times I've been killed by a rogue tree branch, a random barbarian before I have even found the quest for a weapon, and good luck finding any resources. You need flax for everything, but where is it? Nobody knows. I get that the devs want the game to be more realistic, but if that's the case, there would be a LOT more foliage in a forest that's edible, plants would grow in clusters instead of one random single plant occasionally, and you'd be able to smash larger rocks into smaller ones, or at least be able to find them easier since actual rocks are literally everywhere. It is a great start to the game, but it absolutely feels clunky at best.

First off the game is abandoned and im really only saying recommended because well I like the premise I like the idea but the game its self just feels bare bones and also you will want a very good GPU to play this the recommended specs wore a lie and on getting this if you want a bare bones game that lags out 3060s then this game is for you if not well you won't like it or you love keen software house 4/10

Definition of abandonware
This is an unfinished game, but really not far from Space Engineers (which I have a lot of time in). What to do? Mine and build stuff for better mining. Literally just like space engineers. The problem (with both, but more here), is that it's completely open world sandbox so you must like "What the heck do I do now...?" games to enjoy either of them. You build the story in your mind, then in the game. I like it, and for the on-sale (or even not on sale) price, it's freaking awesome. I hesitate to call it "abandoned" because it is functional, just not as expansion-packed as SE. There are a few bugs but nothing like many large studios' "finished" bugfests (Bethesda, anyone... but I love older Fallout too). I really wish they'd make ME2, like SE2. Mods are pretty much necessary to expand on what's already present. Big time missing are coordinated barbarian attacks and NPCs but, honestly, I'd probably just turn them off because I just want to build stories in my mind, not fight bots endlessly. The barbarians that are there now are simple, but do make the world feel dangerous enough to make you want to build castles. If you're thinking about it, just get it.

Before you look at the red thumbs down and go away, let me talk for a second.
This is a really cool, really fun game. But have you ever seen the meme of the mother and the two children in the pool? Well, this is the drowning child. Keen started building a masterpiece, then promptly strung it up on the gallows and smacked the horse supporting it. The community is carrying this game like Arnold Schwarzenegger carried Mr. Bean in that one clip.
Perhaps one day, Keen will come back and finish what they started... or at least pretend to. Seems doubtful... SE2 is their golden child now. Anyway, this is a great game. If you can get it to operate correctly and use the community support tools.

Devs abandoned the game and gave the keys to fix it to the community, it had a lot of potential that was completely unrealized, such a shame, Wicked Wizard did a great video on it just a couple days ago that reminded me of my immense disappointment with the developers.

Great game, BUT!!
Make sure you use the Community Edition of this game if you intend to use a lot of mods, otherwise you'll be pulling your hair out wondering why the mods don't work.
Otherwise, great survival/construction/manufacturing game, greatly endorsed!

At least its $10 now. I was unfortunate enough to have bought it at its full price when it first released in 2015 for $20. Buy when it goes on sale for $5 if you're seriously interested in this abandoned title. Otherwise steer clear of this game.

definitely had a lot of potential, but it seems to have been abandoned soon after launch. Interesting systems, but since it hasn't been improved since like 2015, it's a little bit clunky, and it's difficult to build anything too complex without any mods.

This game was the ultimate grind without any story line or reason for existing. Survival consists of hunger and an endless supply of humans that want to club you to death. I attempted this both solo and co-op and found neither to be fulfilling.

So lets get this out of the way first, The game is a buggy mess some times but so is space engineers. The game was very much not finished before development ceased and it does suffer from the weirdness that all voxel games have with terraforming. I've not played with mods but i do play it every so often just for the sake of making fun castles and junk. if there's one mod i have played with and recommend its the water mod. I wish keen would take a second shot at the concept. It's nice that the experience they got from trying to build this game helped make planets and survival as big a part of space engineers as it is now. Combat is simple but surprisingly fun.
In its prime the multiplayer kicked ass and the game had huge potential. Its just an abandoned mess now, shouldn't even cost a cent.
This game was quickly abandoned by the devs, far before it was finished. It had huge potential, and showed further evolution of Keen's engine. Unfortunately, there's even less content here than Space Engineers survival. I would only recommend if you want to support KSH's development of future titles or if you're looking to "complete" your KSH collection.

Although this review is Recommended, I only recommend it for specific reasons. To save a little time for people looking for certain things, I will put the not recommended reasons first before going more in depth for why to buy it.
Reasons to not buy:
- Game has been abandoned by the original developers, you will not see any new official updates unless they decide to try again (Unlikely as Space Engineers is their focus, they had a different team working on this)
- There isn't much to the survival aspect, many other games do this far better
- There isn't much variety of NPCs, You get Barbarians and deer. The Barbarians use 3 weapons and have some different colours but that's all. There are Mods which add "Craftable" NPCs but the world is still mostly empty
- There remain some bugs and glitches and the game can crash if something too large starts to break
- Limited Multiplayer, you may find some servers with the Community Edition, but your best bet is to play with friends.
If any of those reasons are red flags for you, then do not buy the game as you will be disappointed. You may want to look at Space Engineers instead, or a game like Conan: Exiles if you want something Medieval/Fantasy.
However, on to who I recommend the game to
Buy this game if:
- You like the Medieval setting and really want to build castles. You can build some amazing looking castles in this game and can further challenge yourself by enabling structural integrity, meaning you'll have to think about supports and over all size to prevent your structure falling down (you can turn this off).
- You want a more relaxing game with little in the way of dangers but still want some form of obstacle or threat to keep you thinking.
- You like Modded Games, This game has a huge amount of Mods allowing you to create some masterpieces,get even more satisfaction from your creativity and enhance your enjoyment.
- This is my personal feeling but I believe this game can also be an introduction to "Survival" games, by having food to manage, gather resources to craft as well as more advanced crafting recipes to allow for more impressive things, without the constant threat of really dangerous hostile NPCs or other players. The game does have a good tutorial to guide you step by step from the basics into the more advanced things.
Despite it being abandoned by keen, the game does offer many mods to improve it, the community is doing what it can to keep it going and it is a decent game to play while listening to a podcast or music while allowing your creativity to flow
EVERYTHING
There is/was a lot of potential here but of course I cannot recommend an abandoned game.
Volunteers have kept the game alive and made improvements over the years, but let's be honest, no one should pay the developers for this game when others are doing the work for them.
If there were some way to buy Medieval Engineers Community Edition where the people who did the work got paid instead of the people who dishonestly abandoned their game, leaving a lot of customers behind, I might recommend that.
But no one should give Keen Software House money for this, since they've demonstrated that they don't deserve it.

Хотели сделать симулятор средневекового архитектора/инженера, так и не сделали. По сути сделали каркас для игры, но что дальше делать разработчики так и не поняли, или просто не захотели. Предшественник ситуации с космоинженерами, что-то есть, на те, а допиливать не будем. Сейчас не более чем мусор, и наглядный пример как keenы делают свои игры.
