초반의 좋은 인상은 오래 지속되지 않음.

이 게임은 게임 플레이 라고 부르기도 애매할정도로 플레이성이 약함
워킹 시뮬레이터보다 좀 나은 수준이라고 해야 하나
스펠 마법은 갯수가 적고, 각 구간에서는 정답 스펠이 작동할 뿐 다양하게 상호작용하지 않음.

요새 잠깐 다시 해 보면서 느끼는 감상은
"이거 유아용 게임인가?" 였음.

부정적... 을 누를만큼은 아니지만 그래도 다른 게임 하는 대신에 이걸 할 매력이 얼마나 있나 생각해보면
그렇게 많은 추천을 보내기는 어려움.

A story about a child name Izzy as she writes her experiences and thoughts in her journal where half of the game takes place. The other half takes place in a fantasy story penned by Izzy as it starts off as a passion project to realize her dreams of being a writer. The interactions between the 2 mediums can be felt as the game progresses on and her ever changing experiences and emotions, as seen in her journal, starts to show and affect her fantasy story as well.

Clearly aimed at children or younger audiences in matters of dealing with emotions and heavy topics like grief, acceptance and moving on, it also does so in a way that it isn't too depressing but injects fun and levity to make it more palatable to the majority. The game is fun and simple which makes it easy to pick up and the story does suck you in. One may argue that it has a cliche plot and patterns but in the context of the game, it was made by a child so if you are expecting Game of Thrones levels of writing, then you are clearly playing the wrong game. The simplicity is what makes the weaving of emotions work in my opinion.

For the achievements, most are pretty straight forward and none are missable as there is a chapter select when you finish the game. The only semi tedious part is the collection achievement since you have to replay the entire chapter where you missed them. Thankfully, the found collectibles don't show up anymore so you only need to look for the missed ones. The chapters aren't even that long, Plus the game wasn't meant to be breezed through, you need to take your time and digest what is happening with Izzy and her experiences.

A game definitely worth the price but as always, sales and bundles are the way to go if available. Enjoy! XD

Wow... I did not expect this game would basically be gym for my eyes. They sweated so much! My nose even joined in and ran all over the place!! My desk is full of facial gym towels (tissues)!!!

Jokes aside. This game was AMAZING. This story was soo good. I will say trigger warning for anyone who has lost someone and looking to avoid it maybe wait for a time when you're ok with thinking about it because I can assure you this game will dig those feeling out. I know people that choose to avoid particular topics for their own peace so I wanted to provide a warning. Otherwise do yourself a favor and BUY this game. Like any good story I will definitely be coming back to this one from time to time. Thanks to the dev for such a beautiful story.

I love indie games especially ones with a unique art style and/or game mechanics. Lost Words tells the story of a young girl as she struggles to deal with the event of her beloved grandmother ending up in hospital. The story is told two ways. Firstly through her journal entries in which she talks about her day as an emotional outlet. They're interactive and has your character using words as platforms and solving puzzles on the pages. The story is also told through a story she writes to not only distract her but she hopes to read it to her grandmother. This part of the game once again has platform and puzzle elements as your character runs through her fictional world using words to alter the landscape.

It was a fun game and anyone looking for a platform puzzler with a unique art style and game mechanics should give it go.

Lost Words: Beyond the Page ist ein wunderschönes, total berührendes Spiel, das mich von Anfang bis Ende emotional abgeholt hat. Der Zeichenstil ist atemberaubend und wirkt wie ein lebendig gewordenes Tagebuch, das man Seite für Seite entdecken darf.

Besonders stark fand ich, wie nachvollziehbar und feinfühlig die Trauerphasen dargestellt werden: nichts wirkt übertrieben oder künstlich dramatisch, sondern ehrlich, leise und gleichzeitig unglaublich intensiv. Die Geschichte schafft es, schwere Themen behutsam zu erzählen, ohne dabei die Hoffnung aus den Augen zu verlieren.

Für mich ist Lost Words ein Spiel, das man nicht einfach “durchspielt”, sondern erlebt. Wer emotionale Storys liebt und sich auf ein sensibles, kreatives Abenteuer einlassen möchte, sollte dem Titel unbedingt eine Chance geben.

Lost Words: Beyond the Page is an emotional story with an enjoyable wrapper of art, music, and gameplay that lasts about three or four hours. Turn back if you want an immense challenge or brain-wrinkling puzzles, but if you’re looking to take in a well-written story where you move a character around and occasionally solve some clever but basic word puzzles, this is a great game to experience.

I did NOT expect this game to hit me as hard in the feels as it did! It's been a while since a game made me cry!

The story is in a way simple and childlike, but you are literally playing the story of a child. A story about her and ger relationship with her lovely Gran, and how she deals when a harsh reality strikes.
I've never had the opportunity to have this close of a relationship with my grandparents, and remember it, but it made me incredibly emotional to play this story, written through the big thoughts of a child

The gameplay is simple but really creative! The game is in no way challenging or difficult, but this is way more about the story than the gameplay. It might even fit very well for children! (darker themes should not be withheld from children)

Ein wirklich wirklich süßes Spiel mit einer sehr Herz zerreisenden Geschichte und einer sehr schönen Botschaft.

Man muss sich Anfangs in die ersten "Funktionen" etwas rein fuchsen, aber wenn man das Spiel und die Mechaniken etwas verstanden hat sollt man keine Probleme haben,
Es fehlt ein wenig an der Spiel Einführung.
Die Story im Spiel macht das aber wieder gut.
Ich hatte mit den Tränen zu kämpfen, kann das Spiel nur Empfehlen!

I can't even put into words how much this game means to me. It's the most beautiful and heartbreaking, yet heartwarming games I have ever played (noted that I don't really have a lot of games on my playlist haha) . It's not a game for strategy or precision, the gameplay is really easy, especially for beginners. It's mostly the story that makes the game that wonderful and special. It's a game about loss and about acceptance. It's about loving, but still having to let go. It's about grief and it's about learning to start new. It's really outstanding how this game can help, not only with a loved one passing, but also with heartbreak, depression and other mental illnesses. I think everyone needs to play this game. It contains so much depth and meaning and gives me hope in a world that can sometimes be full of darkness. This game is a glimpse of hope for everybody that feels lost. I can't thank the producers of this game enough. Play it, you won't regret it.

Ich ging mit keinen grossen Erwartungen an Lost Words: Beyond the Page heran. Entsprechend positiv überrascht war ich von einem wunderbaren Spiel, das ein Paradebeispiel dafür ist, wie Storytelling in Computerspielen funktionieren kann. Gleichzeitig ist es aber auch ein Beispiel dafür, wie gerade bei so emotional-philosophischen Spielen die eigene Weltanschauung grossen Einfluss darauf hat, wie man das Spiel erlebt.

Vom Grundsatz her ist es ein Plattformer mit leichten Puzzleelementen. Positiv ist dabei, dass kein grosses Geschick nötig ist. Und auch die Puzzles sind alle sehr leicht. Überhaupt ist das Gameplay sehr simpel und damit extrem zugänglich. Die grösste Gameplayherausforderung sind gewisse Tagebuch-Passagen später im Spiel, die etwas gar mühsam konstruiert sind. Aber das ist Kritik auf sehr hohem Niveau. Damit ist aber völlig klar: Wer dieses Spiel wegen des Gameplays spielt, wird hier enttäuscht.

Denn hier dreht sich alles um die Story. Die dreht sich um ein Mädchen, das gleichzeitig Tagebuch und eine Geschichte schreibt. Das ergibt zwei verschiedene Welten (mit unterschiedlicher Art von Plattforming), die sich ergänzen. Und daraus entwickelt sich eine sehr emotionale Geschichte, die wirklich berührend ist. Das Besondere an Lost Words ist dabei, dass es ein Gesamtwerk ist: Die Geschichte wird nicht nur durch eine hervorragende englische Sprecherin erzählt, sondern auch stark durch das Gameplay selbst vermittelt, unterstützt von der hübschen Grafik und dem tollen Soundtrack. Das ergibt ein stimmiges Ganzes, das perfekt zeigt, welche Erzählkraft das Medium Videospiel entwickeln kann.

Doch gerade weil die Geschichte so emotional ist, wiegen philosophische Differenzen für mich umso schwerer. Und damit ist schon klar, dass dies im höchsten Masse persönlich ist. Mir ist bewusst, dass meine Stolpersteine für viele andere User kein Problem darstellen, vielleicht sogar im Gegenteil. Trotzdem ist es mir wichtig, sie zu nennen, da sie meinen persönlichen Eindruck stark geprägt haben. Jedoch Achtung: Dieser Teil enthält klare Spoiler.

Zum einen gab es für mich ein grundsätzliches, philosophisches Problem im Spiel: [spoiler]Eine der Hauptaussagen des Spiels ist, dass geliebte Verstorbene weiterleben in den Herzen ihrer Lieben. So oberflächlich tröstlich der Gedanke ist, so hohl und leer ist er bei genauer Betrachtung. Ich komme da von der christlichen Perspektive her und sehe das als ein Pseudotrostpflaster für eine letztlich atheistisch-nihilistische Weltsicht. Was genau ist da die Hoffnung? Im Gegensatz dazu ist die christliche Auferstehungshoffnung – ein Weiterexistieren der Persönlichkeit und eine Wiederherstellung in einer neuen Ebene der Realität am Ende der Zeit – eine konkrete Hoffnung, die zudem verankert ist in einem historischen Ereignis, nämlich der Auferstehung Jesu. Kann das auch Mist sein? Natürlich. Aber sie kann auch wahr sein, wohingegen das "sie lebt in uns weiter" keinerlei Basis in der Realität hat. Es sei denn vielleicht, man hängt irgendeine esoterische Weltsicht mit hinein, die aber wiederum auch erst begründet sein müsste.[/spoiler] Dazu kam am Ende des Spiels noch ein weiteres Detail dazu: [spoiler]Am Ende begegnen wir der Hauptfigur als Erwachsener, die nun offenbar lesbisch ist. Das Ganze ist dezent und natürlich eingeflochten. Doch so wie Vertreter von LGBTQ+ sich an angeblicher Unterrepräsentation stören, so irritiert es mich, wie die Thematik in vielen Medien in meinen Augen übermässig und unnötig gepusht wird. Hier empfand ich es als völlig unnötig, zumal es sogar problemlos ambivalent hätte gestaltet werden können. Und nein, es ist kein grosses Problem, aber doch eine Irritation. Und weil sie für einen Teil der Spieler durchaus relevant sein kann, erwähne ich sie trotzdem.[/spoiler]

Wie schwer wiegen diese Punkte nun im Gesamtbild? Eigentlich nicht sehr schwer. Ich habe das Spiel trotzdem als ein wunderbar gestaltetes Storyerlebnis empfunden. Und doch – gerade weil die Story so zentral ist – bleibt ein kleiner Beigeschmack zurück, der Lost Words für mich persönlich „nur“ zu einem sehr guten Spiel statt zu einem absoluten Meisterwerk macht. Aber auch als sehr gutes Spiel ist es absolut empfehlenswert.

Fazit: Ein Meisterwerk in Sachen Storytelling, gerade auch darin, wie Gameplay, Sound und Grafik nicht nur Beiwerk, sondern integraler Bestandteil der Erzählung sind. Auch wenn die gut geschriebene Geschichte für mich philosophisch einige grobe Schwächen hatte, ist Lost Words: Beyond the Page ein Spiel, das ich klar weiterempfehle, erst recht, wenn man meine Kritikpunkte nicht teilt. Aber selbst wenn doch, ist es ein Spiel, das ich jedem Storyliebhaber klar empfehle.

-女主的配音大部分是童年的状态，感觉VA有点青涩，有时候表演情绪激动会突然提高音量，吼那么大声吓我一跳👋，但大部分时候还是情绪传递到位的。
-虽然故事是围绕女主和姥姥展开的，但是女主有弟弟，主页面的插画是女主和爹的合照😅，爹在游戏里戏份不多，不知道为啥非得安排他的图
-是普世意义上的真善美故事，也就是说男角色还是有点多的。
-女主过分自责的部分看的不舒服，而且那部分的叙事节奏也很拖沓。
-经典诈骗式“无孩爱猫女”，前面日记里说了prefer cats，不在乎boys，结尾还是有孩子，不过幸好是女孩，猫也是she。
-有女角色自我牺牲的情节，虽然看到结尾[spoiler] 又复活了，毕竟本身是精灵，暂时的消失可能类似于能量回归自然吧 [/spoiler]

Es war einmal eine Doppelgeschichte.

Lost Words: Beyond the Page ist ein kleiner Platformer, der zwischen zwei Welten unterscheidet. Zum einen haben wir die Reale Welt, wo wir im Tagebuch der Protagonistin herumhüpfen und zum anderen die Fantasy-Welt, die sie sich selbst zusammenschreibt, um das in der realen Welt erlebte zu verarbeiten. Diese Parallelen sind im übrigen sehr offensichtlich. Es geht dabei um Verlust, also wer nah am Wasser gebaut ist, der sollte sich Taschentücher bereit halten. Keyfeature des Spiels ist, dass man mit Wörtern, wie z.B. "schweben" auch Dinge schweben lassen kann. Das ist vom Konzept ganz nett, zumal die Worte, die man lernt auch wieder entfernt werden können oder ersetzt werden. Rätsel würde ich dazu aber nicht sagen.

Grafisch ist das Spiel dabei sehr schön gestaltet. Die Tagebuchseiten werden schön illustriert und auch mit sehr guten Story-relevanten Elementen verbunden. Die Fantasy-Welt ist ebenso schön gestaltet, alles so 2,5D, sehr gut umgesetzt. Auch soundtechnisch überzeugt das Spiel. Die Soundeffekte sind gut, aber nicht sehr wichtig. Da kommt eher die musikalische Untermalung in den Vordergrund, die auch situationsbedingt sehr episch sein kann. Außerdem großes Lob an die englische Sprecherin, die hat ihren Job sehr gut gemacht. Die Übersetzung ist manchmal nicht ganz 100% on point, das ist aber nur marginal und vor allem in einem solchen Spiel auch sehr schwierig.

Dann komme ich auch direkt zum Fazit: Wer ein entspanntes Story-Spiel haben möchte, mit einer sehr gut geschriebenen Story, der kann problemlos zugreifen. Rätsel gibt es in dem Spiel quasi nicht, man weiß eigentlich recht schnell, was man tun muss. Auch das Platforming ist nicht sehr anspruchsvoll. Für einen chilligen Abend also genau das richtige.

The way the devs handled certain topics, how real the emotions were, how deep we were able to feel. Lost Words: Beyond the Page is a truly special narrative experience. You navigate Izzy's diary by literally walking across her written words, solving puzzles that seamlessly blend into her deeply personal story. The emotional tale, crafted by Rhianna Pratchett, is genuinely touching and perfectly paced – not too short, not too long. The watercolor visuals in both the diary and the fantasy world of Estoria are stunning. The game played flawlessly on my Steam Deck OLED running SteamOS. Loved the story, the unique word-based mechanics, and the overall journey. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a heartfelt, artistic adventure.

This is a perfect little story-driven platforming game. It’s such a tight story driven by some very emotional beats, with a cute world inside the frame.

Is the platforming difficult? No. Are there hard puzzles? No. Can you see the plot twists coming? Yes.

That doesn’t matter. Just enjoy it for what it is in the 3 hours you have with it.

The story is beautiful and the visuals are just stunning. Despite the grief theme, the game was relaxing and the main character's voice was soothing (at least for me). Already recommended it.
It is not a very challenging game but I feel like it is more for those into cozy games. If anything, you will be more focused on the superb drawings (especially the ones in the journal)

In der Realität befindet man sich in einem Tagebuch von einem Mädchen, welches eine schwierige Zeit durch macht und währenddessen ein Buch schreibt. Die 2. Welt ist der Inhalt von dem Buch. Beide Storys sind sehr spannend und gut aufgebaut.

La première moitié est intéressante, prenante et pleine de promesse. Il y a de vraies bonnes idées qui servent à te transporter dans l'histoire.
Après le jeu tire en longueur et toutes les découvertes deviennent ennuyeuses et à rallonge. L'histoire tourne en rond et le gameplay aussi. Les énigme offrent vraiment trop peu de challenge. Certaines looooongues parties de niveaux se font en poussant le joystick vers la droite. Les boss sont des "cinématiques". La partie sous l'eau m'a fait hurler de frustration : enfin une occasion de changer de gameplay, mais l'héroine coule et donc rien ne change. On ne remarque même pas quand on sort de l'eau... quel gâchis.
C'est vraiment dommage que le jeu peine à évoluer avec son joueur, cela a failli me faire arrêter. Heureusement il est court (4h). C'est d'autant plus dommage que la fin offre une belle conclusion bien écrite...

Lost Words is a bittersweet coming-of-age tale and a visual novel in an almost literal sense, as the text forms the landscape your heroine navigates as she seeks answers from a destructive dragon. Composing the story is Izzy, a young girl confronting her own doubt and grief within her journal entries.
This game succeeds with its story, atmosphere and voice actress, who does captivating work narrating the loss and sadness that Izzy and her avatar journey through.

The platforming is simple yet cathartic. Every obstacle can be solved intuitively with one of your six magic words and there are few branching paths to explore for fireflies. I was able to find every one without a guide. Play this if you want to listen to a good audio book while doing some basic platforming before bed.

开场日记部分我一直感叹好美的游戏，回到了自己也曾有过的少女时期，一个随手叨叨的本子或者几张零碎的纸，可爱颜色的笔，亮粉，晕染，随心随地随机的词语，心绪和青春一样跳动着。无论是画面、声音、设计，都无比享受回味。

后面横版游戏部分不尽人意，比起其他的横版游戏，实在没什么可玩性，操作互动设计得也不是很好，所以过了日记部分就没什么意愿玩下去了，但是看了介绍和评论一点点剧透，日记部分和横版游戏部分是穿插着来的，哎真的很难选择，日记部分后面看起来很精彩的。比起横版游戏，我更倾向于把这个游戏当做视觉小说，我一向对视觉小说毫无兴趣，但是如果是这个，我还是很愿意读下去。

最后取舍还是放弃了不玩了，游戏部分真的忍不下去

It’s been a very, very long time since I’ve written a review for a game, and honestly, there just aren’t enough words to describe all the emotions I felt while playing this one. I went through so many feelings, but one that really stood out at first was sadness.
As I kept playing, I could feel the tears start to build, and when they slowly began falling down my cheeks, my partner noticed and asked if I was okay. I told him, This game is the most emotional game I’ve ever played in my life.
I just couldn’t put it down. I needed to know what happened next. Hour after hour, the story kept pulling me in, making me wanting to find out what was going to happen.
What I really loved is that it didn’t try to paint a perfect picture where everything turns out alright or pretend your feelings don’t matter. This game made sure your feelings were valid.
All I can say is seriously you have to pick this game up. I watched so many reviews beforehand, and it still turned out to be nothing like I expected—and I’m so glad I gave it a chance. It’s truly one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever experienced.
There’s so much more I want to say about it, but the more I do, the more I worry I’ll give something away.
Thank you for an absolutely beautiful game. I wish it had never ended.

personnellement c'est un jeu que je recommande pour ses qualités même si ce n'est pas un jeu que j'ai aimé.
Je l'ai acheté pour moins de 3 € ( au prix de 15€ ça aurait été du vol ) donc c'est un avis qualité prix que je donne par rapport à sa valeur en solde.
Même si les mécanismes de jeux ne m'ont pas trop amusés, elles sont différents ( peut être innovantes ) des autres jeux.
On suit une héroïne qui écrit dans son journal et on se trouvera à se promener parmi l'histoire qu'elle écrit et son histoire.
Dans son histoire, nous circulons dans son textes qu'elle écrit ( en français ce qui est un très bon point même si on ne peut pas changer les touches )
l'histoire qu'elle écris, nous transporte dans un univers morne et sans mécanismes amusantes.
Ce qui sauve le jeu c'est son histoire triste mais banal.

Un juego muy reflexivo, fácil mecánicamente hablando pero duro a nivel emocional dependiendo del momento de tu vida en que lo juegues o si has tenido una experiencia parecida, no profundizaré mucho porque vale la pena jugarlo. Respecto al juego pasan dos historias en simultaneo, donde una perspectiva ayuda a la otra teniendo catarsis y si eres observador con simbolismos que te dan pistas y finalmente tendrás una introspección de haber captado la idea del villano/antagonista.

Petit jeu assez rapide à terminer, même en souhaitant le platiner, puisqu’il ne m’aura fallu que six heures pour y parvenir. Vous y parviendrez un peu plus vite si vous regardez comment réaliser les succès avant, car j’en ai loupé deux qui n’étaient pas évident par rapport aux autres. Un jeu rapide, mais qui peut être difficile, puisqu’il parle du deuil durant l’enfance et de réussir à l’accepter et avancer.

L’intrigue nous fait voyager entre deux mondes, le réel et l’histoire écrite par la protagoniste (qui est aussi la narratrice). Vous l’aurez deviné, mais les deux histoires sont liées l’une à l’autre et au fur et à mesure, les deux filles que l’on suit évoluerons ensembles. La réalité présente les choses comme elles sont, de manière assez dure, tandis que le monde fantasy abordera les choses de manière plus imagée. Le deuil n’est clairement pas une chose facile et beaucoup des passages de ce jeu me rappellerons des souvenirs, avec des phrases assez impactantes. Comme l’on suit deux histoires en parallèles, le mode de jeu varie également entre les deux. Dans le monde réaliste, on se retrouve à tenir un journal, il faut alors faire bouger un petit personnage entre nos mots. De jolis dessins parsèmeront aussi les pages, il faudra aussi parfois choisir les bons mots ou utiliser des dessins pour modifier la page. C’est assez intuitif et j’aurais presque conseillé le jeu à un jeune âge, mais son thème me fait rebrousser chemin. L’autre monde propose aussi un jeu de plateforme, mais avec un univers construit, où certains mots ont des pouvoirs (limités dans le temps ou non). Il faut s’en servir pour avancer, trouver les lucioles disparues, ainsi que la vérité sur l’avenir de nos deux héroïnes. Cette histoire pourrait vraiment parler à bon nombre d’entre nous, voir le deuil, la mort, avec des yeux d’enfants… se rappeler que l’on ne savait pas tout, que l’on était perdu…

L’histoire est linéaire, même si on peut parfois faire demi-tour, ça reste limité donc si on loupe quelque chose, il faudra revenir. Les passages dans le journal servent de transition entre chaque chapitre. Une fois l’histoire terminée une première fois, vous débloquerez la sélection de chapitre, avec le suivi des lucioles retrouvées. Cette sélection ne prend en compte que les chapitres dans le monde de fantasy et pas les transitions dans la réalité. Il faut donc refaire l’un des chapitres pour atteindre la partie journal et faire certains succès qui y sont liés. Il n’y a pas de monde ouvert ou de 3D, tout est en 2D, avec des couleurs magnifiques et des variétés de décors. Nos protagonistes feront la rencontre d’autres personnages au fil des chapitres, des alliés ou des ennemis. Tous montreront une certaine partie du deuil, des sentiments,… J’ai beaucoup aimé leur design, notamment celui du Djinn qui est parmi les premiers que l’on rencontre. La morale de l’histoire est également intéressante, il faut savoir avancer, sans oublier et faire vivre nos proches dans nos cœurs. J’avoue que certains jours, les souvenirs et la douleur reviennent, mais se sont souvent les bons souvenirs qui refont surface et non la fin.

[h1]Lost Potential: Beyond the Story[/h1]

It's one of those games that makes me wish Steam actually had a neutral review option rather than the binary yes/no recommendation.

In short, this game has amazing story and voice acting (admittedly, hitting very close to home for both me and my friend, with whom we discovered the game together) that brought me on the verge of tears on multiple occasions. But the game is massively dragged down by its gameplay aspect.

Let me elaborate.

This game is a platformer, and I normally hate platformers, but I liked the narration and the visual style shown in the trailers, so I decided to give it a try. Plus, the game had a deep discount. The platforming is very easy compared to some other similar games in the genre, as are the puzzles, but that's where the biggest caveat lies. The platforming gets tedious really quickly. Multiple times I caught myself thinking "I want more of the story, not more pesky jumping sections". All that said, I find myself hesitant to give this a negative review, because the diary entries (one of the two stories in the game) are absolutely phenomenal. The fantasy story, though, is where it all comes crashing down.

The external story is presented in the form of diary entries. which are essentially small-scale jumping puzzles, where you can sometimes juggle words around to change the pictures in the journal, all presented in a stunning watercolor aesthetic.

The internal "story within a story" takes place in a vibrant fantasy world, where the protagonist supposedly has the power to use words to influence the world around her. But there are three (four, if you count Point 0) main issues with this part of the game.
Point 0. Any choices made in the diary entries have little to no influence on the story, besides visual differences. So, this is Not a Choose Your Own Adventure game. Not an issue in and of itself, but still worth mentioning.
Point 1. The "word magic" has no variance whatsoever. This game had the potential to have amazing word-based puzzles. Instead, the words are contrived to be used in very specific circumstances ("rise" on platforms with arrows, "break" on rocks with cracks, etc.). They are essentially glorified Metroidvania-like abilities, and even that is squandered by the linear nature of the chapters.
Point 2. The combination of needing to use the keyboard for jumping on platforming sections while simultaneously using the "hold and drag" on words with the mouse, all on top of the jumping being floaty and the swinging being unresponsive at times, makes the "fantasy" platforming portions really tedious. Why have three statues on breakable foundations, where you need to repeat the same sequence of actions (open the book, apply the word, close the book, jump) only to see another identical statue with the same sequence of actions? If all three were on the same screen, the gameplay "loop" in that particular section would have been much smoother (break all three, jump across).
Point 3. The collect-a-thon for nothing (an achievement doesn't really count when SAM exists). Why have "fireflies" to collect in later chapters, when they are mostly along the line of the story, with some of them being in the nooks to the left of the screen or on platforms, if they give no gameplay benefit. This is Assassin's Creed II feathers all over again. Admittedly, that is a personal pet peeve of mine.
The straw that broke the camel's back for me was a bug in Chapter 4 where I fell into the lava and was spawned back before the platforming section, with the upper platform being stuck, as if I was already on there, so I couldn't progress.

In conclusion, I think this game would have been better as an interactive story or a visual novel, rather than a platformer. As it is, I'd rather watch it on YouTube, because the story is genuinely amazing.

If you want a brilliant Choose Your Own Adventure story, I recommend the Life and Suffering of Sir Brante. If you want a puzzly word-based game, I recommend Chants of Senaar. For an adventure puzzler, try The Last Campfire. These games do the mechanical aspects of this game a thousand times better.

TL;DR. A hesitant non-recomendation. Great story dragged down by tedious gameplay. Something I'd rather watch than play.

I was very reluctant to buy this game at first. It's a platformer, and I hate platformers. It's shorter than I would normally like. But it was on a good sale and a friend loved it, so I decided to go for it. And I'm glad I did!

The platforming in this game is very easy. Even easier than the puzzles. And the puzzles aren't hard. They are both just a vehicle to serve the Story.

Or rather, two stories, one inside the other. The first one is the diary of a girl named Izzy, where the words themselves serve as the platforms to walk on. The other is the tale she writes, in which the heroine uses word magic to remove the obstacles on her path.

At first, I was almost puzzled - "What am I doing, playing a kids' game at my age?" But at the start of the third chapter, something happens in Izzy's life, that completely changes Everything. Including my opinion of Lost Words...

Anyone who has ever had a similar experience, can vouch that the description of the evolving emotional state of both protagonists (those of the "inner" and "outer" stories), is Entirely accurate. You might want to have a box of tissues handy.

I was thinking about how to describe Lost Words: Beyond the Page, but I'm lost for words... Actually, there is one word I have to describe it - Masterpiece.

Lost Words: Beyond the Page is about grief, love, family and finding your way through the fog of loss. Any child who is/was close to their grandparents will feel this game, as it pulls hard on those heartstrings.

There are moments where you’ll pause, not because of gameplay, but because of the emotional weight of what’s being told.

The voice acting in Lost Words is another beautiful touch, with Izzy’s voice filled with wonder and sadness in just the right measure. The voice of Lump will be another tenderly sweet addition to the game itself.

У игры хороший визуал, хорошая озвучка, прикольное управление силами в игре внутри рассказа. Но всех, кто понял "управление словами" из описания и трейлера как возможность влиять на историю, ждет разочарование. В те моменты, когда вам предлагается выбор, это выбор уровня "омлет или вафли". Иногда игра делает вид, что предлагает игроку возможность выбрать, куда повернуть сюжет, но это лишь иллюзия. Да, дальше по истории выбранное будет упомянуто, но на саму историю это повлияет примерно никак.
История простая, нацелена на выжимание слез, и она могла бы даже сработать, если бы не одно но: персонаж главной героини.
Главная героиня пишет свою собственную историю внутри истории, и ее персонаж не вызывает приятных эмоций и убивает сопереживание к себе. Да, она ведет себя как типичный подросток, но здесь это выглядит как оправдание низкому качеству самой истории. Она типичный подросток, может вести себя эгоистично. Типичный подросток, может действовать эмоционально и не задумываться о последствиях. Причем сама гг воспринимается вполне неплохо, но только до момента, пока она не начинает писать свой собственный рассказ, главная героиня которого является условным отражением ее самой и событий в ее реальной жизни.
На этом моменте сопереживание погибает.
Например, [spoiler] можно идти через пещеру, разрушая все на своем пути, а потом удивиться, почему пещера рушится? Почему житель пещеры злится? Ну может, потому что ты ломаешь его дом и сносишь несущие конструкции на пути? Или можно вломиться в место обитания другого существа, забить на то, что он говорит тебе уходить, и ломиться вперед со словами "мне очень надо", без объяснений. А когда существо попытается тебя прогнать, заткнешь его заклинанием. [/spoiler]
Эгоцентризм главной героини выкручен на 100%. [spoiler] Житель пещеры в погоне за персонажем гг заваливает выход - нужно высокомерно кинуть ему предъяву. У нее же теперь трудности, ей не выйти наружу. [/spoiler]
ЧСВ выкручено на 100%. [spoiler] Родная деревня разрушается от атаки дракона - нужно кинуться в погоню за драконом, хотя она размером с его зрачок и у нее нет ничего, чтобы его победить, ни инструментов, ни плана. Жители деревня, включая ее родню, как-то справятся сами с разрушениями и огнем, хотя подразумевается, что суперсилы есть только у нее. Всю дорогу будет звучать "у, я догоню тебя, дракон", и ноль планирования или рефлексии об оставшихся за ее спиной. Рефлексия начнется только в подходящий драматичный момент несколько глав спустя. Также, к сожалению, нет вариативности в влиянии на окружение с помощью сил персонажа гг. [spoiler] В какой-то момент появляется имба-слово ignore, которое позволяет в числе прочего игнорировать препятствия. Но только те препятствия, которые не хотят, чтобы их разрушили словом разрушения. [/spoiler]
Тем, кого не задевают непродуманные выборы персонажей, отсутствие рефлексии и кто не рассчитывал, что сможет влиять на сюжет, может зайти, остальным не рекомендую.
