Lost Lands: Dark Overlord - первая часть крайне разросшейся линейки игр, и она на удивление логична. В ней не приходится применять предметы нестандартным образом, что приятно, но и загадки не щёлкаются как орешки, так что разминка для мозгов выходит славная. Многие из локаций приятны взору даже при солидном возрасте игры, что тоже несомненный плюс.
Огорчает, как ни странно, слабая концовка, напрашивающаяся на выше упомянутые сиквелы, и бонусная глава, которую трудно связать с основной. В остальном LL:DO может моментами нагнать жути в сюжетном плане. Надеюсь в последующих частях узнать о безликой матери-героине больше.

[h1]Da bekommt man direkt Lust auf mehr[/h1]

...und zum Glück ist die Aussicht bei einer inzwischen zehnteiligen Serie da sehr gut :-)
Hinweis: dieses hier ist der erste Teil, auch wenn die Sortierung im Bundle eine andere ist. Achtet auf das Releasedatum.

Nachdem ich mich sehr an der fünfteiligen New York Mysteries - Reihe erfreut hatte, wollte ich nun die nächste Serie des Entwicklers FIVE-BN angehen. Ich komme ursprünglich vom Genrekönig Artifex Mundi (BigFish ist qualitativ nur zweite Wahl :-P), habe aber inzwischen gelernt, dass FIVE-BN ihre Sache sehr gut machen und dem “Marktführer“ in nichts nachstehen! So war es bei “New York“ und so scheint es auch hier zu sein. Teil 1 hat alles richtig gemacht.

[h1]Story[/h1]

Die Protagonistin ist mit ihrem kleinen Sohn im Wald. Sie telefoniert, passt einen Moment nicht auf und schon wird Jimmy von einem magischen Baum in eine andere Welt gezogen. Naja, wer kennt das nicht ^^
Jedenfalls stolpert Mama direkt hinterher und versucht, ihren Sohn zu retten. Auf der Jagd nach dem selbstredend übernatürlichen Entführer geht’s also durch das namensgebende “Lost Land“. Hier trifft man direkt zu Beginn Zwerg Uri und später auch noch andere Gestalten, die einem für eine kleine Gegenleistung helfen.
Was es mit dem Kidnapper auf sich hat, verrate ich hier noch nicht.

[h1]Gameplay[/h1]

Wie üblich gibt’s die Mischung aus Inventaranwendung, Minispielen und Wimmelbildern.

Was den Storyfortschritt, also das Durchschreiten der Szenen sowie das Sammeln und Anwenden der gefundenen Gegenstände angeht, so kann man jederzeit gut assoziieren und verläuft sich auch nie.
Sonst gäbe es ja auch noch die Karte, welche den eigenen Standort und mögliche andere Standorte anzeigt, an denen etwas getan werden kann. Oder man klickt auf den Tipp (der sollte aber schon kaum mehr nötig sein). Für den äußersten Fall wurde sogar ein Walkthrough integriert.

Wie mir schon in “New York“ immer wieder aufgefallen war, treten die Minispiele aus dem Einheitsbrei hervor. Man trifft auf schöne, abwechslungsreiche und oft unbekannte Puzzle Designs, welche auch genau den richtigen Aufwand erfordern. Man analysiert es einen Moment lang, dann probiert man sich dran, und es ist keins dabei, was zu lange dauern würde oder bei dem man auf der Stelle tritt und frustriert wäre.
Die Errungenschaft für „länger als 5min benötigt“ habe ich trotzdem bekommen, weil man bei einem Rätsel ganz schön viel hin- und herdrehen musste. Aber das war mehr Fleißarbeit als dass man geistig überfordert worden wäre.
Insgesamt also wirklich sehr toll, nicht zu leicht und nicht zu schwer für meine Begriffe.

Bei den Wimmelbildern hat man sich auch ganz toll Mühe gegeben, sie abwechslungsreich zu gestalten. Es gibt sie in verschiedenen Varianten, eine davon war mir sogar vollkommen neu.
Die Szenen sehen natürlich alle schön aus und sind auch im richtigen Maß herausfordernd.

Der Schwierigkeitsgrad ist übrigens in drei Stufen einstellbar, man kann aber zusätzlich diverse Häkchen setzen oder wegnehmen (Tutorial, Aufladezeiten, Funkeln, Tipp etc.). Da ist ein guter Standard erkennbar, wohlgemerkt schon in diesem ersten Teil von 2015.

[h1]Technik[/h1]

Dieser Entwickler schafft wahrlich schöne Szenen, das möchte ich unbedingt hier erwähnen. Und man hat sich Mühe gegeben, sie so gut wie möglich nicht wie ein Foto aussehen zu lassen, sondern mit Leben zu füllen: überall bewegen sich mindestens irgendwelche Partikel, und manchmal kann man ein Tierchen anklicken, welches dann weghüpft oder -fliegt.
Was ich auch auf eine besondere, wenn auch vielleicht ungewollte Art schön finden: die Mimik der Nebenfiguren. Man kann es schon im Trailer erkennen: sie bewegen sich etwas kantig, was einen charmanten Stop-Motion Effekt erzeugt. Ich mag das irgendwie.

Diesmal sei auf jeden Fall auch der Soundtrack erwähnt. Meist läuft er in diesem Genre eher nebenbei und man ist froh, wenn er nicht negativ auffällt, weil er z.B. spürbar aussetzt oder sich zu oft wiederholt. Das kommt zwar hier auch mal vor, wenn man drauf achtet, aber viel auffälliger ist, dass mindestens zwei Tracks dabei sind (ein ruhiger und ein energischer), die einem wirklich in positiver Weise während des Spielens aktiv auffallen.

[h1]Umfang[/h1]

Lost Lands: Dark Overlord bietet zum Hauptspiel noch ein Bonuskapitel. Dieses fand ich übrigens auch sehr schön. Es fängt dort an, wo auch das Hauptspiel beginnt, biegt dann aber in eine neue, wunderschöne Welt ab.
Insgesamt würde ich diesen Titel vom zeitlichen Umfang her immer noch als leicht überdurchschnittlich bezeichnen, wenn auch die New York Mysteries länger waren.

Während des Hauptspiels kann man sich auf die Suche nach einer Menge Sammelgegenständen machen. Es gibt vier Arten mit je 8-9 Teilen, oder anders gesagt: in jeder Szene findet man eins (verzweifelt nicht an der ersten Szene, dort noch nicht).
Die Sammelobjekte sind eine schöne Dreingabe und in vernünftigem Maße versteckt (=Herausforderung genau richtig).

Nach dem Spiel kann man sich noch die üblichen Extras reinziehen (Konzeptzeichnungen, Wallpaper, Musik,...) und auch vier einfache “Tausch“-Puzzles lösen.
Leider gibt es hier (noch) kein Bonusspiel, wie es bei “New York“ ab Teil 2 der Fall war.

Die Errungenschaften hat man nicht unbedingt mit einem Run. Ich zumindest war nicht so nah dran mit 16/24.

[h1]Kritik[/h1]

Es fällt mir hier wirklich schwer, überhaupt eine zu finden. Eine leider direkt sichtbare, an der auch “New York“ bis zum letzten Teil litt, sind die nicht nur schlecht aufgelösten, sondern sogar pixeligen Cutscenes.

Das war’s aber schon. Subjektiv könnte ich nun noch sagen, dass ich kein Fan von Fantasy, Märchen und Mittelalter bin. Umso positiver fällt mir hier auf, dass mich der Titel trotzdem super abgeholt hat.
Es kommt ein paar Mal dazu, dass man Tränke anrührt. Diese ganze Magie dahinter ist zwar für mein Wissenschaftshirn nicht greifbar, wird aber idiotensicher als Fertiggericht vermittelt. Soll heißen “pack die Zutaten einfach nach Anweisung rein und rühr um“ ;-)

Zuletzt könnte man noch [b]positiv[/b] erwähnen, dass mir keine der in diesem Genre berühmt-berüchtigten Übersetzungsfehler aufgefallen sind. Zumindest keine gravierenden, welche z.B. eine Wimmelszene ruinieren würden.

[h1]Fazit[/h1]

Die Lost Lands - Reihe beginnt mit Dark Overlord sehr vielversprechend, ich möchte direkt mit dem nächsten Teil weitermachen.
Nur aufgrund der beiden Kritikpunkte (wobei einer ja nur Geschmackssache ist) ziehe ich ein Pünktchen ab, sonst sehe ich überhaupt keine Schwächen.

É um bom jogo!

Os cenários são bem lindos, os puzzles bem bacanas, com aquele vai e volta de itens bem comum desse gênero, apenas as custscenes são mais ou menos. Porém se você tá buscando uma história surpreendente, já tire o seu o cavalinho da chuva. É bem "meh", um genérico de mãe que vai atrás do seu filho sendo levado por um grande mal, o vilão do jogo.

Resumindo: O jogo tem uma gameplay e gráfico de cenários excelentes para o gênero que se propõem, mas tem uma história muito fraca. Recomendo pra quem gosta de Hidden Object, mas não recomendo pra quem busca uma história sensacional.

This game is the first in a series of fantasy-themed HOGs, with a decidedly above-average quality. Playing as a mother searching in another world for her abducted child, you get to discover fantastic locations, solve puzzles and finally defeat the ultimate villain – just what you’d expect from this type of casual games. On the technical side the game is a well-done craft, featuring nicely drawn images and good (if a bit repetitive) music. The hidden-object scenes use concept that actually makes sense, where you pick objects and immediately use them in the scene to get another object and so on; additional puzzles are also well designed and easy to figure out. What’s not so great is the random spread of items across entire map, with not uncommon instances where you pick an item at the end of Area C, and have to travel all across the map to the beginning of Area A to use it... an illogicality that is sadly common to many HOGs. Despite these minor grievances aside, the game is still good, sets the standard of what a good HOG should be like, and the series is popular enough that new episodes of it are still getting released until this day.

"Lost lands/Contrées perdues" est une série de jeux vidéo du type "Objets cachés". "Dark overlord/ Seigneur des Ténèbres", paru en 2015, en est le premier volume.

Au niveau du récit, le thème est classique : un enfant est enlevé et sa mère, -chacun sait que les mères sont de vraies lionnes lorsqu'il s'agit de leur progéniture-, poursuit le kidnappeur. Se faisant, elle se retrouve dans un monde étrange, plein de magie et d'êtres fantasmagoriques, les Lost lands/Contrées perdues éponymes. Elle devra, pour sauver son enfant, résoudre diverses énigmes et trouver maints objets cachés.

Notons d'abord, et surtout, la beauté du jeu, tant au niveau graphique, -les cinématiques sont absolument splendides-, qu'au niveau musical, -le générique s'inspirant de celui de la série télévisée "Flash". Il y a également une réelle recherche poétique dans les différentes créatures que rencontre l'héroïne au fil de l'histoire, -mention spéciale aux sourcils de l'Esprit de la montagne. De fait, les personnages dessinés les plus ratés sont... Les humains.

Remarquons ensuite l'équilibre entre les différents mini-jeux proposés : il y a trois formes différentes de recherche d'objets cachés ; les énigmes sont diversifiées et parfaitement réalisables, peut-être même un peu trop faciles. Il n'y a aucun risque de s'ennuyer face à tant de diversité.

Enfin, on y retrouve les autres spécificités de ce type de jeux : objets cachés dans le décor ; succès à réaliser ; guide de stratégie ; carte permettant de se téléporter d'un lieu à l'autre ; bonus ; différents niveaux de difficulté.

Voici un petit jeu plaisant, que l'on peut s'offrir pour se faire plaisir. Profitez, néanmoins, d'une forte promotion, le prix de base étant, à mon avis, un peu trop cher pour un jeu du type "objets cachés".

The main bad guy of this game wasn't trying AS hard... Guess he overcompensated and thought he would win in the end.

He also had one minion. Maybe the evil shouldn't have killed all the other living beings... This way they could actually have an army.

The shadow devil clone just throws a bit of dust in your face... Maybe because he wasn't fully resurrected?

I know as MCs we have plot armor... But it was funny.

The Bonus game had more at stake. *nod nod*

Lost Lands: Dark Overlord

This is a gorgeous, high quality title that I mostly enjoyed.

Options include separate sliders for Music, Ambients and Sound Effects; Resolution; Full-screen/Windowed, Custom Cursor, and - if you're playing on Steam - Cloud Sync.

There are three difficulties to choose from. I chose to go with Hard, since there's an achievement for playing through on that mode... I thought that I'd only have to play through once to get all of the 'cheevo's that way, but I don't think it's possible to get them all in one play-through unless you use the Strategy Guide every step of the way :(

The aforementioned Strategy Guide is built-in, and gives you step-by-step instructions for everything - including placement of every object on your HOS! The only thing it doesn't show you is the location of all of the collectibles. There is one on every location in the main game (68 locaitions!), and there are multiple types to look for! ie. Skulls, pine cones, snails, etc. If you're having trouble spotting them - and they ARE hard to spot! - there's a great guide on Steam, which you will find HERE.

We have multiple types of hidden object scenes to complete: Lists, placing things back in the scene, and by silhouette. Really a nice variety to keep things interesting!

There is a jump-to map (interactive if you're not playing on Hard), but you can't use it over five times if you're going for all of the achievements :\ When you use a HINT, instead of giving your a directional arrow, it will pop your map open with the location you need to go to circled. A time-saver for sure, but it makes it difficult to limit usage to 5 times!

Let's address that which lessened my enjoyment of this game. In case you hadn't already guessed, it's the achievements.

There are 24 achievements to be earned, but I feel that some of them are unfair. Besides using the map only five times, there are mini-game achievements for finding x-items in less than 20 seconds or completing a mini on your first try... Seriously? It wasn't until I got into the bonus content that I found that I can re-play those minis to get the achievements, so I stressed every time one of them came up.

As a side note, the in-game achievements do NOT reset when you restart the game, so you don't have to worry about getting them all in one play-through.

The story seemed rather lackluster to me. I found that I really didn't care about little Jimmy or the evils of the land. For this title, the enjoyment came from the gameplay.

There are 68 locations in the main game, and ten NEW locations in the bonus chapter. I am so happy that you get a REAL conclusion to the story in the main game, and that the bonus chapter is not just a tacked-on addition. It was just as high-quality as the rest of the game, and with some beautiful new locations.

This is a grade-A title - excellent in every way - whose enjoyment was lessened for me due to my achievement-hunting nature. It's gorgeous, the gameplay is interesting and varied, there is a ton of things to see and do... If you're an achievement-hunter like me, just try to let it go and enjoy the game. After all, it is a quality title to be enjoyed!

I'm copy/pasting this across all Lost Lands editions.

The short: beautiful artwork, captivating stories, great cross section of medium to challenging puzzles, very apt orchestral music, detailed but simple menu system that allows instant travel across accessible places.

The Long:

Incredible artistic detail is made possible through pre-rendered 3D worlds and animation along with exceptional hand painted detailing - in Sand Captivity I can't tell whether some character animations are in time or pre-rendered - I'm a 3D artist btw.

The story lines in each of the series carry our imagination from start to finish through use of brief video and character interaction to pull us into another reality where what we see in our mind feels real - if you don't get this then I pity you.

Music has been composed with full understanding of the plot behind the Lost Lands series - hardship in overcoming challenges towards the end goal. Instrumental sections such as horns, strings and percussion excel with each solo supported by exceptional backing by associated orchestral sections.

There is absolutely no slouch on programming - I've been programming systems for over 30 years and succeeded against 'the impossible' a number of times. While I certainly have not tested hint everywhere, I have no question that it works everywhere as when I have needed it, it worked perfectly. Every minigame has a Skip where most show us the solution in real time.

I'll go further to say that there is absolutely no slouch on progamming...or testing it. During every 'End Minigame Video' that I've tried to, I have fast travelled out then back without a minigame ever failing to complete - their progamming and testing is bullet proof.

The bottom line is that Five-BN cover a number of types of entertainment, in many ways, with their Lost Lands series.

While I'm at I've bought most of their games where I've seen the logical structure change without ever losing the focus they have - there is no other entertainment developer I know of to have their dedication.

Schönes Wimmelbildspiel mit vielen Fantasy-Aspekten. Relativ lang sogar und lohnt sich deshalb recht gut.
Besonders fair fand ich, dass einige Rätsel-Achievements nicht nur im Main-Game gemacht werden können, sondern die Rätsel nach der Freischaltung einzeln im Menü ausgewählt werden können und es dort auch funktioniert.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. This is the first installment in this series of hogs. I'm personally new to hogs (hidden object games) and this is one of the first ones I ever played and I enjoyed it alot. Very magical atmosphere. It kind of reminded me of the elven saga from Disciples II (If you like the magical forest thing, might be worth checking that out btw).

I found the story exposition to be quite lacking but I honestly wasn't in it for the story. I wanted to be immersed in the world and look at all the pretty artwork and solve some puzzles. I got exactly what I wanted in that department so I really enjoyed the game. I personally plan on eventually accumulating all the games in this series and playing em in order.

Nice hidden object / puzzle / point&click adventure for the casual player. This is the 4th time I play a Lost Lands game and again I like it. The puzzles are fun. The still images make it relaxing for the eyes. Interface works nice and easy. Graphics are good and there is just enough story to bind everything together. Now on to the bonus level. :)

Jeu sympa, pas très long, histoire pas hyper développée (le personnage n'a même pas de nom, ce n'est pas encore Susan la Guerrière), mais jolis graphismes, cinématiques, animations quand on utilise un objet, plein de mini-jeux de niveaux variés, quelques SOC ou 'objets à replacer' ou 'pick & use'. Love all the Lost Lands games! Fun, but some parts were a little tedious as every item you needed, you had to solve a puzzle. I get that's the game, but there were so many. Not hard though. I like the newer ones a little better, as there's more story to follow and a good variety of puzzles.

I know this is good, as I have played ALL the first 6 games, including the bonus games, in order, on a different platforrm. The mini-games are quite hard, And the Story is not bad either. That said, you really need to play Lost Lands in order, including the bonus games (in order), to fully understand the Story. This means you would have to get all the games, but I think you will find it worthwhile. 10/10

I mainly enjoyed this one, but didn't find it especially memorable. The gameplay is good, but the story is a letdown. You play the utterly insipid Susan, who plods zombie-like through the story after son Jimmy, then completes an unrelated bonus story for no particularly good reason. As with all the kidnapped-kid plots in this genre, we know that Jimmy will be saved at the end, so there's no suspense and no plot development.

Pros:
- Gameplay functions well in the usual style you expect of the genre. Puzzles are decent.
- 3 different types of HO scene
- 4 different collectibles
- Bonus chapter
- Very detailed Strategy Guide that will help you gain most of the achievements
- Beautiful artwork and animation

Cons:
- Boring story with no plot development
- Silly achievements such as only using the map 5 times. This one really annoyed me, because I'd assumed wrongly that it meant only fast-travel 5 times, so I was using the map but navigating to each area manually, and then of course all the effort was wasted. I assume it means you can only *open* the map 5 times. Unless you have saintly patience and/or an incredible memory, it would only be possible to do this with a walkthrough or the Strategy Guide, which would take all the enjoyment out of the game.

Overall, the game was okay, but probably not good enough to persuade me to play the sequels. If you don't care about the story, it's a good bet. If you do, it's easy to find other HOGs you'll enjoy more.

Agréable mais un peu bateau.

[b] Les + : [/b]

- C'est parfois très joli, parfois inégal. La plupart des décors sont inspirés dans leur construction et leur perspective. Et les couleurs chatoyantes aident bien au coté conte de fée / magie. Les animations quand on interagit sont un petit plus qui fait plaisir.

- Un gameplay global assez diversifié : puzzles qui ne ressemblent pas dans l'ensemble, combinaison d'objet avec des éléments du décors, 4 gameplay de recherche d'objets différents et collectibles. C'est assez varié pour la durée de vie.

- Les indices important pour certaines énigmes sont notés dans un carnet. Ce qui évite les aller-retour ou de prendre des notes. Une option de confort bienvenue.

- Bon rythme jusqu'au milieu du jeu : les énigmes ne sont pas trop alambiqués, on avance assez vite, pas trop de zone ce qui évite de tourner en rond trop longtemps.

- Durée de vie honnête. Plus long, ça serait encore plus étirer le jeux qui a déjà une 2 ème partie à rallonge...

[b] Les neutres : [/b]

- Les éléments et personnages pré-animés en 3D sont assez moche et n'étaient pas nécessaires puisque, plusieurs fois, le jeu a des animations bricolées en 2D qui fonctionne bien

- Les doublages sont moyens mais c'est agréable d'en avoir sur ce genre un peu de niche

- La musique est un peu trop discrète et s'arrête assez vite quand on résout des puzzle. Ce qui nous laisse régulièrement avec 0 ambiance sonore.

[b] Les - : [/b]

- Trop d'aller retour, trop de combinaisons farfelues, trop de coffres / portes qui s'ouvrent avec 3 cristaux / 4 gravures / 5 pierres précieuses / 8 gemmes ... surtout vers la 2ème moitié du jeux

- Pour compenser cette répétitivité. On peut à tout moment savoir vers quelle scène on peut interagir... et les indices se rechargent très vite. Mais même si des niveaux de difficulté existe, le level design du jeu a été fait pour qu'on use et abuse de ces mécanismes. Ce qui rend le tout facile mais laborieux et peu gratifiant.

- Tout est très classique et l'histoire est vraiment légère. Le jeu à eu des idées intéressantes mais complètement sous développées avec quelques lignes de carnet à lire seulement.

I almost hit no. But, I can't deny that I rather enjoy it while it lasted. I completed the entire game in about three hours. Since I did purchase it, I was really hoping there would be more to it than there was. The visuals were okay and story was fine. My main interest, like most of y'all's, was in the puzzles. Not sure if I loved it enough to check out any others in the series. We'll see. Good HO and puzzle games are hard to come by.

Pierwsza z 7 części przygód. Jest w niej zarówno przygoda którą sami przeżywamy jak i mnóstwo minigierek dla miłośników takiej rozrywki. Jednak obydwie strony tej gry są zrównoważone co przykuło moją uwagę i zachęciło mnie do zakupu wszystkich części. Jako minus można wymienić to, iż minigierki po kilku sesjach strasznie się nudzą i zaczynają być irytujące ponieważ wciąż rozwiązuje się te same zagadki, a ile można. Ogólna ocena pierwszej części Pozytywna z uwagi na wciągającą fabułę.

Lost Lands : Dark Overlord n’est pas un Hidden à proprement parlé mais un jeu qui aurait plus un look de point’n’click. Il y a bien des SOC qui le parsèment mais ils sont peu nombreux par rapport aux puzzles à résoudre.

Nous suivons dans cette aventure une mère de famille qui voit son enfant enlevé et qui plonge dans un monde parallèle afin de le sauver. Si l’histoire est bateau, elle se laisse néanmoins suivre sans déplaisir, les petites cutscenes en 3D y sont pour beaucoup.

Graphiquement, le jeu est agréable à regarder et l’on apprécie les scènes parcourues qui sont colorées et détaillées.
Les puzzles et mini-jeux sont dans l’ensemble assez nombreux et certains demandent un peu de réflexion afin de les résoudre. Les SOC varient entre le classique (liste d’objets à trouver) et les listes avec des objets à remettre au bon endroit dans le SOC ou un objet permet d’en avoir un autre et ainsi de suite)…

Mon principal reproche est sur les déplacements… Le jeu vous fait faire des allers-retours assez fréquents et assez long (plusieurs scènes) alors oui on a une carte interactive afin de résoudre ce problème car toutes les scènes restent disponibles pendant la session mais j’aurais préféré des « voyages » moins long si on fait cela normalement (J’ai laissé tombé rapidement ^^).

Que dire de plus, il y a des collections à récupérer, indiquées sur la carte par un icône afin de s’y retrouver. Une bonne idée ^^

Le chapitre bonus nous renverra pour une mini – histoire sur les lieux de notre première aventure afin d’aider les créatures du lac… Puzzles et SOC sont au rendez-vous également.

Alors oui, ça ne restera pas mon jeu préféré mais l’ambiance et le plaisir de jeu est bien là, ce Dark Overlord vaut la peine de s’y arrêter

The puzzles are varied and not repetitive. Lovely storyline. Beautiful artwork. One of the few games I decided to move from free version to paid. Totally worth it. Not a game you should rush through. Relax and enjoy.

Great game that successfully balances between challenging and fun. The puzzles are sometimes easy, others a bit of a pain and a few could be considered brain scratchers. For me, this is a good balance. It is rare for me to play any game a second time, but I did this one.

Loved this game, led me to play the entire series. Lots of places to explore, which can make difficult to remember what you're looking for or where you're going. But i loved that aspect. Best HOG series in my opinion. Not too many actual HOG within the game itself, but lots of fun and different puzzles.
