An RPG game with roguelike elements developed in the medieval fantasy world of Kingdom Rush. The Kingdom and the rest of the known world are now under the control of the dreadful Dark Army. However, a new threat bigger than the Dark Lord himself unites the heroes of the realm pushing the notions of good and evil aside. Fight on a turn-based grid moving around the combat area. Switch and match your heroes and companions until you find your ideal team for each battle! Find treasures, solve riddles, explore ruins, and so on. The world will react differently according to your decisions, so be careful!

Great Idea, solid attempt however incredibly unpolished execution.

Before you read this review, please understand the context.
1. This game was designed for mobile under a subscription based gaming model for non-gamers (Apple Arcade) thus has a wide audience target.
2. Ironhide is an indie company with scarce manpower and cannot keep updating an old game while also pumping out new games (there is another live service as well).

Legends of KR was Ironhide's attempt at a turnbased roguelites using the KR IP, and on paper it works wonders. The expansive world building and the incredible art was the most appealing part to me. The gameplay loop tries to be unique with random encounters, dice rolls, and a party system. It is unqiue but it lacks depth, every idea can be expanded upon yet due to the design nature of a casual 15 minute run, it falters. When it works well, it is ok, and when it doesn't it feels like a quagmire. The gameplay loop is way too grindy, a 15 dollar game should have some progression but if it is locked behind 40+ hours for shallow features, then its feels grindy to have fun.

Due to the nature of rougelites this game feels hard, but really it is not hard just that a wrong decision is very, very punishing, sometimes run ending. I have no gripes with that, but the characters are not balanced making the gameplay somewhat skewed. Armor is an extra layer of HP that characters can have in this game, they soak physical damage before subtracting from the main HP. Magic users with magic attacks are incredibly strong, as they can ignore basically half of the enemies or your teams effective HP. The game tries to compensate by giving their physical counter part, more damage, status effects, and mobility. That is not good enough, and even if it was, the necessity of magic users are diminished substantially. Any game with an AC system should reduce damage by percentages, not flat reduction. It makes magic necessary and doesn't make physical damage feel miserable.

Status effects is another layer that the game try to make feel in depth but executed at a very surface level. Most character have special abilities that can immobilize, buff, or debuff other characters. Most of these abilities have an additional effect if the target is already immobilized or debuffed, typically much more damage or stronger debuffs. The game encourages chaining attacks to swiftly and efficiently take out enemies without bleeding the tank too much, however the game has a terrible initiative system, in which you have no agency to change, that can and will change from random counters. Most of the status effects expire in 1 turn, so if you dont have things planned to the very extreme, it is very hard to take advantage of this chain system. If an enemy's turn lands between two of you characters, then you cannot chain anything on that enemy. If extending the status effcts's duration is too unbalanced, just add an additional lingering effect without debuffing the target, that even when the OG effect expired, you can still proc that bonus.

A solid C+

There is heart behind these creative decisions that were completely outside their comfort zone. They clearly tried something new and fun with KR, had it not been for the apple arcade exclusive design philosophy, this game can be expanded to a 100+ hours of gameplay with actual depth.

Should you buy it? Only on sale. Should this discourage you? No, these are my experiences, if it bothers you, look to the community for mods. Should you play it? Absolutely, show support for these indie devs.

originally I bought this as it was on offer and I had other games in this series, I did not expect a turn based game (xcom style) so that was my bad as I did not look it up first, but that was not the reason for the thumbs down, so the GUI is the same as we all know and love from this series, with its cute animation of char and movement, it just overall feels unfinished to me, tho I am not used to this kind of game, there was no explination of how exactly armour works, no pop up when hovering over stuff so you can see what anything does, which is perticually annoying when you level up, as you have to click on it to see what you want. so it was too hard for someone like me to get into it, I am sure its ok, but I would need to sink a fair few hours into watching vids on how the mechanics actually function, so I lost a fair bit, even on easy, got overrun far too easily.

I will prob look into this later in the year when I have more time, I would suggest watching a lets play on this game first for anyone who does not normally play such a thing.

Игра очень понравилась, единственное что - немного неприятно то, что не смотря на прожитые приключения , - герои кроме вариативности прокачки при следующем разе ничего не получают... Уважаемые разработчики, пожалуйста, если вдруг кто-то из Вашей команды откроет мой отзыв - давайте за ранг хотя бы доп статы Всем юнитам(Ну правда дичь, что даже их не дают...), либо возможность раскидать навыки двух и трёх звезд хотя бы на единицу у героя до начала уровня, так играть куда интереснее. Постоянно бить врагов одними и теми же начальными навыками как по мне ограничивает эту игру, либо же можно дать игроку выбрать один навык на юнита, который он мог бы получить для каждого из отряда до начала приключения.

还挺有意思的，如果玩过王国保卫战其他系列的话这部可能会感觉新奇一点，如果你是战旗或者肉鸽玩家的话就更好了，游戏总体来说挺看脸的，关卡较少，不过每一关地图进去都是随机生成这一点很有意思（虽说来来回回就那几个选项），角色不多，可惜后续没更新了，如果持续更新dlc下去的话说不定很有潜力。

Amei! Sou muito fã de KR e também de combate em turnos, então a combinação ficou perfeita para mim. O modo gerador de batalhas foi uma excelente ideia para aumentar a longevidade do jogo após as campanhas. Infelizmente, é uma pena que o jogo tenha sido abandonado, já que não recebe atualizações de conteúdo há anos.

没办法，看见铁皮出的就会带着滤镜评价了。对于战棋游戏来说，本作的系统比较简单，可玩性和重玩性跟正传比还差了不少，但还是挺有意思的，只推荐铁皮粉丝和战棋爱好者入。

Я фанат Kingdom Rush, я вважаю найкраща Tower Defense, але ця частина зовсім іншого жанру, це не TD а щось по типу РПГ з пошаговими боями. В цілому гра мені сподобалась, весела, в міру складна. Стиль арен, героїв і так далі дуже приємний, сучасні Iron Hide дуже добре вміють робити дуже красиві 2D ігри, анімації дуже "соковиті", кожен удар, здібність та інше приємно бачити, інтерфейс простенький та розумілий, хоча красивий. Порог входу в гру дуже низький, є легкий та складний режим на вибір, гра не перевантажена та чудово підійде тим хто мало або зовсім не грав у ігри з пошаговими боями. Геймплей трохи одноманітний, хоча прокачка, здібності на вибір та багато героїв і союзників розбавляють гру різноманітністю. Цікава та схожа на DnD механіка що у випадкових ситуаціях у грі підбрясується гральний кубік, та якщо випаде щаслива сторона то буде хороший результат ситуації, якщо погана сторона то поганий результат. Повертаючись до теми різноманітності, то у грі є сюжетні компанії які називаються "пригодами", крта пригоди генерується випадково та кожний раз різна, за винятком таких речей як босс і таверна, це дуже крута механіка. В цілому гру рекомендую, як і для фанатів KR, так і для нових гравців.

Pretty sick game, really enjoy it. Sometimes you can get a rough start on a run, but most of the time it works out. Could be longer, but it's got a fun gameplay loop you can go back to.

Legends of KR is a game of a different genre unlike the previous entries in the series. It is not a tower defense but rather an adventure turn-based strategy action game. It is a ton of fun with a lot of variety which is awesome! A lot to be done if you aim to complete every achievement. The adventures within it are quite different from each playthrough even if you do the same one over and over. Only a couple of events are being repeated every time for story reasons. I experienced no crashes in over 40 hours of gameplay. The game runs smoothly and without any bugs (from what I've seen so far). The story is nice! There is also a randomized arena game mode which is very fun!

Overall a very solid game which is worth a try if you're a fan of Kingdom Rush! It was a pleasant surprise for me! I honestly expected less from it.

I love the gameplay and to this day am still playing the arena challenges however, I cannot fully recommend the game due to the unfortunate lack of content as the game feels a little pricey for the actual content so therefore do not purchase unless you are a diehard kingdom rush or tile combat fan

Wer auf sowas steht der wird seinen Spaß dran haben.
Ist leider etwas eintönig. Ständig tut man nur Kämpfen oder ist dem Glück ausgesetzt bei Entscheidungen im Spiel. Der Endboss ist aber echt stark und das ist gut so. Leider gibts nur wenige Gebiete. Hätte lieber auch einem erneuten Tower Defense Teil gehabt. Das Leveln der Helden ist hart beschissen. Spiel funktioniert ohne Probleme.

In my opinion, this is one of the best games Ironhide has ever developed, if not the best. It involves tactical vision, strategy, and the possibility to challenge oneself - to create custom limits of play. It is also not too hard, which allows all players to enjoy it. The only downside worth mentioning is simply the lack of adventures/updates. This leads to a lack of game diversity and while the arena tries to make up for it... it is not enough. However, challenging yourself by limiting your options is a way to add more variety and make it more interesting.
