the first and best early VR tech demo made by Rockstar Games that is extremely overpriced for the amount of content it has which is only 7 missions out of the original 41 missions and that is also including the street crimes in the original game. its basically cut 80% of the game and put a $30 price tag on it when you have loads of playable missions just playing the original flat game, ridiculous. thats all the negative things I can say about it really.

The driving mechanics are intuitive, people complain about it, I think it works wonderfully, almost everything could be picked up and can be interacted. I love VR and although it is still a niche side of gaming, I hope it was enough to convince Rockstar games to innovate into other ways of playing their games for projects down the line. Ever since getting a virtual reality, flat screen gaming doesn't really cut it for me anymore, and there's simply not enough to grandeur about when we have been playing the same way for seven decades now.

L.A. Noire is one of my favorite games of all time. I used to live in L.A. and seeing my city as it was in the 1940s was one of the reasons I loved it so much. In VR, it is truly brought to life.
The driving is really difficult for me, though. The scaling is off, too, but it might have something to do with my VR setup.

Bought the game, forced me to instal the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Rockstar launcer, and then asks for a rockstar activation key to play the game i just bought via steam. Asked rockstar support whats up, they say its steams problem. Ask steam whatsupp, they say its Rockstars problem. End up with a game i can't even launch because they want me to pay twice for it

Really good game the driving mechanics ,using the guns are fun and running after criminals is quite funny(1 hour of gameplay), I wouldn't really recommend this game because I and most people experienced that the game dosen't start at all. ''Oculus failed to initialize Error: -1'' I've spent 2 hours trying to fix this problem, I've checked youtube videos, reddit forums and nothing appears to fix this bug.

L.A. Noire is a good game, this VR port is OKAY though leaves a lot to be desired.
Too bad this is going to be Rockstar's only VR game on the market as any new VR game by Rockstar has been cancelled because Meta/Facebook sucks ass at doing anything.

if you do buy this (why even at sale price, it's not worth it). you're going to download a bunch of open vr dlls from everywhere and 90 - 100% of the time it won't work, and with the ever risk of this games activation keys going redundant, I'd avoid this game with a 5ft pole. I've had better luck with Fallout 4 VR and that's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mess.
Even if it works for you, you have to deal with the Rockstar Games Launcher and that is... just terrible. it's very annoying because you launch it in SteamVR and you HAVE to interact with the UAC prompts at your computer. Even then. this game got delisted once on Steam because the Activation Keys/CD Keys were redundant and you weren't allowed to play this game AT ALL even purchasing it on Steam or Oculus (god forbid you do that)

An Old VR experience, Voice Acting has been recorded in a bedroom, as an experienced VR Player the smooth turn actually makes you somehow sick. Very stiff experience over all, mostly waiting in cutscenes and more so in loading screens.

The cases selected for this VR adaptation represent a curated set of seven substantial scenarios from the original game. The game itself is good, not perfect, but definitely worth a try. Just keep in mind that this isn’t a full L.A. Noire experience. You’ll need about six gaming sessions to complete it, but overall, it offers a solid experience.

Unfortunately, I can’t say the same about the technical side of things. Especially when it comes to launching the game. This is actually my first VR title that has issues just starting up. Sometimes, during boot, the game doesn’t recognize the controllers; other times, every few launches through SteamVR, it tries to start META software or shows an “Oculus error.”

Hello, game! I don’t even own an Oculus headset! I’m playing on SteamVR with PSVR2. Restarting the system usually fixes it, but even then, you only have about a one-in-three chance of the game launching normally.

У меня Meta Quest 3, сначала была проблема с ключом активации в самом лаунчере Rockstar. Я решила эту проблему, но появилась другая, При попытке запустить игру выходит (Ошибка при инициализации Oculus код ошибки (-1) ). Самое смешное, я даже поиграть в игру не успела, но уже показывает что я в игре целых 20 минут. Не рабочая хрень, пустая трата денег...

It's just a tech demo. Early VR, primitive controls and movement.
Not the entire game of LA Noire, just a selection of cases.
Hopefully this means Rockstar will do something more with VR in the future. (Still waiting on GTA SA, Mark Zuckerberg you ****.)
Had fun driving the cars, and screwing around this adaptation. However at this price!? Skip it.

Абсолютно неиграбельно. Все методы в сообществе не помогли. даже Chat GPT не смог найти решение проблемы. Не покупайте игру, если у вас нет старого Oculus приложения из 2019, и то не факт что заработает. А так наслаждайтесь ошибкой инициализации Oculus (-1). Постараюсь вернуть деньги за этот кусок кривого порта.

Плюсы:
- можно порулить по Лос-Анджелесу
- дела весьма интересные
- выражения лиц выше всяких похвал
- рукопашные бои весёлые, можно пощёчин надавать
- куча разных опций перемещения, в том числе уникальное размахивание руками, но есть и привычное передвижение по левому стику
- есть русские сабы

Минусы:
- игру сильно обрезали по сюжету, по сравнению с плоской - все дела из патрульной службы и по одному делу из остальных отделов - 8 vs 26 в плоской версии. В итоге, если проходишь только VR версию - про связанный сюжет можно забыть
- улики иногда надо покрутить в руках, чтобы поймать тот угол, под которым они будут учтены
- игра запускается только через лаунчер Rockstar (если в нем вдруг нет аккаунта и нужно создать новый - у меня получилось создать только через мобильный инет)

Иногда при запуске возникает ошибка и игра не стартует.
Точно работают два варианта - либо AirLink, либо Virtual Desktop (с запуском игры через меню VD)

Un tres bon jeu qui a manger une tempette du a des bug horrible

de ce que j'ai cru comprendre le jeu ne marche bien avec le steam vr que depuis mars 2025 sachant que le jeu est sortie en 2017 je dirais que le temps de correction de la par de rockstar est autant a chier que l'apport de contenus au début de GTA5 ou a RDR2 aujourd'hui

maintenant que le jeu marche il est pas si mal meme si TRES court comparer au standard du a des missions passer a la trappe ce qui fait que l'on ne peu pas suivre l'histoire vue qu'elle est couper, c'est comme lire un livre de 24 chapitres et sauter du chapitre 3 au 7 d'un coup (exception faite du livre La maison des feuilles)

le gameplay est bien mais on ezst clairement sur un ,jeu sortie en 2017 faut pas s'attendre a du nouveau en terme de mécanique meme si pour l'époque la conduite totalement manuel est incroyable

Sad reminder of what could have been...

This is an amazing VR experience (when it actually works).
-By far the best driving mechanics I have experienced in VR.
-Boxing and gun fights are rudimentary, but fun.
-Detective work feels like it was meant for VR.
-Walking in the streets is simply magical. Locomotion is not up to today's standards, but I found swinging arms to walk mechanic very interesting and actually enjoyed it.

This is the type of VR games we could have had, but instead the industry went in the direction of making crappy mobile games and calling it a day. What a shame...

P.S
If you have trouble launching the game, try it on SteamLink app with Vive controller emulators. The game also may get stuck in the loading screen when launched. Check the desktop in that case and "skip all" for the cloud sync error that pops up. Enjoy.

Game doesn’t run because of a Rockstar Launcher failure. Just some advice for the future, if you see Rockstar Launcher in the requirements, keep that in mind that one day the game you bought might stop working because of this ♥♥♥♥♥♥, unnecessary integration. I'm going to give this a thumbs up because it's still LA Noire, but the movement controls in VR leave A LOT to be desired. Why they don't just have normal movement is beyond me.

Hold a button and swing your arms, double press another and click to go somewhere? Like what the actual ♥♥♥♥ were they thinking. Why not just have left thumbstick move you? It's mind boggling.

L.A. Noire is a game that accurately simulates Los Angeles in the late 1940s, with a strong emphasis on detail. For a game released in 2011, the character animations are excellent, and some cases are particularly interesting. In my opinion, this work remains timeless even today. Yes, I had a great experience playing it.

It’s pretty fun tho definitely dated and cluncky lmao. Everyone’s faces look like playdoe and the movement feels like a suggestion more than a decision. And the launcher can be a pain in the A22. But interesting perspective to play this game in would recommend if it’s on sale.

★☆☆☆☆ Disappointing Experience – VR Shouldn't Feel This Clunky

As a huge fan of the original L.A. Noire, I went into the VR Case Files expecting a fresh, immersive way to experience one of my favorite detective games. Unfortunately, this VR adaptation is a frustrating mess.

First off, the controls are incredibly awkward. Simple actions like picking up objects or interacting with evidence often feel like a battle with the physics engine. Moving around is clunky, and the teleportation system breaks any sense of immersion. Instead of feeling like a detective, I felt like a stiff mannequin clumsily poking at everything.

Even worse, they stripped out a large portion of the original game. What you get here is a trimmed-down selection of cases, which feels more like a tech demo than a full game. No open world, limited interaction, and lots of content missing.

The graphics are dated, and while the character models still have that uncanny facial animation, it doesn’t hold up well in VR. Combine that with inconsistent voice lip-sync and jarring NPC animations, and the whole thing just feels off.

Overall, L.A. Noire VR feels like a half-baked experiment rather than a fully realized remake. If you're looking for a polished, immersive VR detective experience, this isn't it.

但是现在多半差评不至于，所以给个推荐拉拉分。

首先黑色洛城这个游戏是不错的，新颖的题材和玩法，面部捕捉的效果非常nice，不错的操作和体验，但是VR版并非如此。
另外说明一下这游戏并不是开放世界游戏，本质是开放世界下的线性过关游戏，类似黑手党1，但比其更加线性，甚至没有什么剧情，只是以关卡制进行破案而已。
不足：
1.首先一个问题就是R星自家的平台可以说是一个和橘子平分秋色的“优秀”平台了，这点大家都懂；
2.作为一款VR游戏每次进游戏有太长的前摇是非常令人烦躁的，并且每次都要询问你的VR有几个传感器，难不成我每天换一台设备玩？
3.游戏中每次对面角色说的话比较多，字幕就会在眼前分成数行遮挡一整块视野，有时候甚至在视角正中间，除了字幕啥也看不到；
4.VR游戏有很重要一点的就是代入感，游戏中经常出现读盘画面，并且有些剧情过场会切换电影视角，严重破坏沉浸感；
5.游戏中可互动的物品寥寥无几，除了案件证据外可互动的东西就更是少得可怜，物体的物理效果也比较差劲，但考虑到游戏是2017年发售的，似乎也可以理解；
6.操作是我玩过几款VR游戏中最糟糕的了，用摇杆移动角色似乎不能奔跑，而传送模式居然要连点按键才能激活，同时传送定位也不是很准确，摆臂移动听着挺有代入感，但我玩起来根本就动不起来。

优点：
1.核心角色的面部表情是真的很真实，在VR模式下更是令人震惊；
2.游戏的战斗体验还算可以，虽然敌人比较傻逼，但预设的一些场景破坏带来的代入感是很棒的；
3.VR解密感觉还是不错的，很有代入感，体验也挺好；
4.即便不是真开放世界，但车损是和GTA4同级别的，开车手感也还行，如果不想开车也可以选择瞬移；
5.VR版自带中文。

总结：
就如原版黑色洛城一样，R星对VR版本也是一次试水，区别就是原版口碑不错，而VR版本并不如人意。游戏的整体代入感和操作手感都不像是VR游戏该有的水平，游戏优点也基本是继承了原版游戏，VR能带来一定的正提升，同时也带来不少扣分要素。
要我说推不推荐吧，原版价格绝对是血亏，折后99元其实我觉得也偏高了，毕竟alyx折后也没贵多少，行尸走肉圣徒与罪人现在价格也下探到89元了，这两款游戏带来的VR体验是完全碾压黑色洛城的，所以并不是很推荐，但也不是不能玩，我认为最合适的价格是70元左右。

UPDATED 2025- READ ME HOW TO FIX GAME LAUNCH!
rockstar emailed me back a year later saying the CD key activation issue is now fixed- you may have seen my post on reddit, it is fixed YAY! can finally install and launch the game, however, by default, it will give headset can't initiate error because it tries to launch oculus rift/link software and ONLY connect by that-even on non oculus headsets or PC streamers like virtual desktop.

SOLUTION:

in the steam vr controller binding for the game, set custom binding and top right of window you'll see 'options', inside that, set index as emulated controller/ hmd.
by default, steam vr sets that to oculus, and for whatever strange reason that's enough to trigger the game into thinking it is an oculus headset and tries to launch oculus software.

I've had this game for so many years and now i finally get to play it.

Great game, if you played L.A. Noire and consider buying this, I recommend it, it's nice to experience this game AS Cole Phelps instead of a camera following him.

If you haven't played L.A. Noire, do NOT buy this game.

This is a good game but it's lacking compared to the original game.

There are only 7 cases in the game compared to the original's 21.

This is an issue as it leaves out many plot details, it's all just a bad experience unless you have played the original.

Grafisch durchaus ansehnlich verging mir der Spaß am Game nach wenigen Minuten wegen der Steuerung. Leider nicht smooth wie bei Skyrim VR oder ähnlichen Games sondern mit ziemlich bescheidenem Teleporting. Schade für ein Spiel das von der Story her richtig Potential hat. Darum wieder zurückgegeben.

Don't know why people are saying this is a bad game/Unplayable, all you have to do is put in your CD key from your VR, and then use the oculus store, what a big deal. also, the mechanics work amazing, especially the driving part, A problem I do have with it though is the weird movement system, where if your using smooth walking, (Instead of teleporting or using your hands,) it randomly tracks in the direction you were facing when you started, what I mean is that you could be walking normally, look left IRL, and then want to walk that way, you press forward while facing that direction, and it makes you go the way you were facing originally, does anyone know how to fix this, anyway?

Not compatible witrh Pimax and Lighthouse, not compatible with virtual desktop... can't get this POS to work. luckily I got it for for cheap, sadly I itinkered with this garbage too long for a refund. Last time I buy rockstar for anything VR... or anything rockstar at all. This should be taken down or labeled HTC Vive only.

Dont buy it if you want to play it on any Quest. First you need to activate the Game on the Rockstar launcher with the Game Code, wich is not much affort but just an unnecessary step, then if you want to start it via Steam VR it doesnt launch it gives you the Error Oculus (-1), i searched for solotions and installed the then oculas app now meta Link app and it also doesnt work. Maybe there is a solution but i dont want to install 3 Apps to play a game i paid 30€ for that takes 90 mins to complete.

Tive ótimos momentos aqui, pois era minha primeira vez jogando L.A. Noire, pois não joguei ainda a versão normal sem vr, então fui meio as cegas sem saber muita coisa, pois só tinha ouvido falar e poxa vida muito legal a experiência, me deu até vontade de jogar a versão original.

Recomendo com certeza, dá pra por algumas horas a mais quando comparado a outros jogos VR que costumam ser bem curtos.

This game was made very well for VR, and I liked figuring out how to drive (a lot of NPCs died in the process). The cases were well built and the racing, boxing, and shooting ranges in the war room were also fun too! The only thing that I don't like about it is that they only put 7 of the cases into the game.

[b]Oh boy, I really tried not to leave a negative review, but here we go.[/b]

At the moment of [b]07.02.2025[/b], the game is working and accepting CD key provided via properties in Steam. But to launch it even on [b]Oculus Quest 2[/b] is really something. While [b][url=store.steampowered.com/app/650000/DOOM_VFR/]Doom VFR[/url][/b] and even [b][url=store.steampowered.com/app/851890/GalGun_2/]Gal*Gun 2[/url][/b] gave me headaches ([i]the second game especially[/i]) to run, I eventually got the result that I wanted. This one, however, for some reason, I cannot make it to.

There are only two ways I could run it on [b]Windows 11[/b]: via [b]Oculus Link[/b], launching it directly from [b]RGL[/b], and [b]Virtual Desktop[/b] via replacing [b]openvr.dll[/b] and launching it through [b]RGL[/b] to make it open [b]Steam VR[/b]. Otherwise, I get this infamous [b]Oculus "runtime error: -1."[/b].

[spoiler]I prefer to run it with the Steam overlay enabled ([i]it's just one of my quirks - I tend to avoid Meta's software wherever possible with [b]Dash Killer[/b] to save GPU VRAM and launch directly in [b]Steam VR[/b] without that white Oculus-Meta discopanel[/i]). And I know that if the games run natively through Oculus runtime, in many cases, they would perform better.[/spoiler]

Now about the game - personally, I think it transitions really well in VR. But because it IS an old title, there are janky controls and very unpleasant character movement. You cannot turn smoothly like in modern VR titles by thumbstick - it's either a very low-degree turn or spinning with a significant delay for some reason. Pushing the forward thumbstick to go forward sometimes registers as a different direction, depending on your position. ([i]I think if I bought it on [b]PS4 PSVR[/b] (gen 2), I would've played it without such hassle[/i]).

There are fewer cases than in the main game, and they significantly butchered it ([i]I guess to improve the VR experience[/i]), so for me it's like [b][url=store.steampowered.com/app/502820/Batman_Arkham_VR/]Batman™: Arkham VR[/url][/b] on PC - a very prominent and lengthy tech demo.

Things that I personally enjoyed: driving ([i]like in [b][url=store.steampowered.com/app/438100/VRChat/]VR Chat[/url][/b] custom rooms but slightly better, I guess?[/i]), looking for clues, and interrogating suspects and witnesses ([i]there are some blurry smears on their faces when they change emotions - but I guess it's due to facial capturing[/i]). Oh, and fighting par on par with criminals using only bare hands is also really satisfying.

[h3]Would recommend to buy ([i]on sale ofc[/i]) only if you want to experience a pretty darn good noir game made by Team Bondi and are ready to figure out how to run it with this "[i]amazing[/i]" launcher such as RGL. [b]Otherwise, avoid[/b].[/h3]
