Seems like i found a hidden gem the art is amazing and combat too! btw there is no online only achievements even tho one comment said so.
The real Samurai Showdown!
Unusual fighting game, meditative but still fast-paced, and violent. I'd need to wait for someone else to play with before giving a proper opinion, but the combat system is way deeper than it looks, with various types of attacks, footsies and backdash, ... And the short challenges quickly teach you to master all the move set, in addition to provide fun little puzzles or special encounters. The final boss is a welcome surprise.
Just to state the obvious, the graphics are gorgeous, as well as the soundtrack. My guess is the meaning of the title is that the screams of the samurais resonate through those paintings and bring them back to life or something. It's cute that everything happens on pieces of paper, including the tutorial. And the red ink that slowly fills the screen after each death is a nice touch too. The whole game has a very "artistic" feel, while still being a proper fighting game.
Anyway that's pretty much all there is. Not a lot of content, but what's there is very worth it. I recommend.

Fighting samurais. Pick your attack and try to smash opponent with devastating blow. One hit usually means end of fight. Block incoming blows by aligning sword in correct position to attack. General idea ok. Execution a bit shallow. You might wannna check out Bastard's Tale which game similar type of gameplay. I'll pass on this one.

Online achievements to a dead game (online disabled). Otherwise the game is fun like Footsies. Maybe I'll buy it later if the dev add an option to get it in offline mod game. For now, I ask a refund.
Highly recommending this game in 2025. If you've ever tried out any sports or activities that required instant and anticipatory action but struggled with overthinking, give this game a try. If you hesitate even for a moment, you will lose. If you think, you will lose. Real-world fighting philosophies and tactics translate almost seamlessly to the controls which allows you to actually engage your opponent with the principle of mushin (no mind).

Recomendo, mas APENAS COM UM BOM DESCONTO DE 85%,, porque o jogo CARECE MUITO DE CONTEÚDO. Conta apenas com um único personagem - com duas skins - e 3 cenários. Parece até uma demo... Em compensação, o conceito de reunir o combate de apenas um golpe - como se dá realmente um combate entre samurais - com arte que imita pinturas japonesas funciona muito bem e dá um toque de originalidade ao jogo.

It honestly pains me to give this game a bad rating, but the truth is that there isnt much that this game offers.
But on the other hand I absolutely love the conept of a fight game inside a japanese painting. The fighting is quite simple and rather boring. But with my brother we did manage to have fun for an entire hour with this game.
I would accept the game as it is, if it wasnt that obvious that it is half finished. A lenghty and challanging campaign would be great alongside some more unlockable backgrounds.
Regardless I think that is worth experiencing just for the sake of a great concept. However, just looking at the trailer/gameplay video might be enough for you to have that experience.

im historischen Samurai-Setting treten wir mit einem Schwert gegen einen Gegner an. Ein einziger Treffer und die Runde ist entschieden.
"Kiai Resonance" ist wirklich klein. Es gibt für die Kämpfer nur zwei Skins und es gibt lediglich drei Hintergründe. Es gibt auch nur wenige Bewegungs- und Angriffsmuster. Auch gibt es nur rudimentäre Spielmodi. Mit an Bord ist nur das Nötigste, aber das ist ästhetisch gelungen und funktioniert erstaunlich gut.
Irgendwie erinnert mich das Gameplay an "International Karate" auf dem C64. Auch da gab es nur wenige Bewegungsmuster und nach einem gelungenen Schlag war die Runde vorbei. "Kiai Resonance" ist allerdings noch reduzierter. Die Spielerfiguren sind bei Weitem nicht so dynamisch und es gibt noch weniger Angriffsmuster.
Allerdings paßt das durchaus, denn der Schwertkampf der Samurai war weniger komplex oder dynamisch, sondern vielmehr präzise, kurz und tödlich. Und so hat denn diese Reduktion einen höheren Realismus-Faktor als die meisten anderen Kampfspiele, die sich eher an absurder Hollywood-Action orientieren.
Hinzu kommt noch die richtig gelungene Ästhetik und Sounds und Musik, die sich gekonnt ins historische Setting einfinden.
Man sollte allerdings nicht zu viel erwarten. "Kiai Resonance" ist alles andere als ein komplexes Kampfspiel. Es ist viel näher an einem Mini-Spiel. Aber das ist gelungen. Und es ist kurz, präzise und gnadenlos.

A really charming one-hit kill Samurai duel game which, sadly, feels incomplete. The art and gameplay are extremely evocative making you feel like you are actually dueling within a kaiga painting. The fighting system is very simple composed of three stances similar to rock-paper-scissors with precise button timing added into the mix. While simple the gameplay is definitely not simplistic forcing you to observe your opponent, strategise and precisely time your attack. Besides the offline duel mode (single and two player) there are also varied Challenges and online two-player (ranked and unranked) matches. I really like this game and what it offers.
Unfortunately there isn't much content here. There are only two fighter outfits and three fields to fight in. Being able to customise your samurai would have been a great addition. Also online play is basically dead which makes completing ranked achievements a burden. There might be the possibility of arranging matches through the [url=https://steamcommunity.com/app/360450/discussions/]Community Hub[/url] beforehand to mitigate this issue.
The game really is great and it pains me to say its only worth it at a discount because of its general abandonware feel.

A beatiful yet simple swordmanship game with an Ukiyo-e theme. I think that it lays the foundations of a formula that can be refined by a more polished sequel. Higher screen resolutions, a story mode and a better working online are things I hope to see in the future.

Great, underrated game which experience emodies fencing very well. The game fails to simulate counter time, and parry-riposte seems clunky, but distance management, counterattacks, feints with blade and tactical feints, even true time (a fencing concept, in which attack lead by blade is good, and attack lead by feet / body is stupid) simulation - everything is on point. If You're into kendo, kenjutsu, aiki-ken or even just samurai cinema - You will feel at home with this game.
I got this 75% off for $1.25.
This is a very weak thumbs up, but for a dollar I think I got my money's worth.
As others have mentioned there's very little content here. You can fight 3 AI difficulty levels, there's an option for online multiplayer although it's pretty dead, there's local multiplayer, and then there's 12-15 challenges the game provides which are like little minigames.
Art style is neat and pretty. I will mention that on a 1080 monitor it looks slightly blurry, which makes me wonder if the assets are a little too low res.
Combat is simple. I love the one hit kill concept and that's what got me to get this game, that and the fact that it supports local multiplayer.
Things that this game left me wanting:
-The combat was too simple, and even then some elements were redundant. For example, forward stance is useless. It only blocks other forward stance attacks and the up stance quick attack, but is countered by up stance charged attack. My issue is that the up stance charged attack is super quick to charge and only gives a sound cue ONCE it's charged. Against "difficult" AI this just leads to them taking what seems to be a normal up stance quick attack, when in actuality it is the strong attack just being released instantly once ready, so the sound cue doesn't even play.
-Countering is janky. I don't claim to have the fastest reaction time but I don't think I have the slowest either (for reference I was able to clear all of "Ready Steady Bang!" if you're familiar with that game). After practicing for a while I was still unable to consistently counter anything in this game. I admit I may have some extra input lag since I'm using a mechanical keyboard which has a long stroke.
-Animations are confusing. The up stance attack looks pretty much exactly like going from up stance to forward stance. The forward stance attack looks like going to up stance and then doing the up stance attack (and thus it looks exactly like going from forward->up->forward). Point is, they all pretty much go at the same speed and are too hard to distinguish in my opinion, especially if they are going to all come out as fast as they do. This is another reason countering felt really inconsistent. (Hey but as long as I can piss off my friends maybe this is a plus haha).
-I was hoping for more UMPH when you kill someone in a one-hit kill kind of game, and unfortunately this game doesn't deliver. The sound design is kind of weak, and visually the kills are very low-key.
Try it out, there's so little content you can probably get through most of it and still have time to refund the game if you don't like what you see.

I love samurai and I love the artstyle of this game. Thats the good. The gameplay is... okay I guess? I don't know I don't see the point. Ther are 2 players three stages and a never populated online mode. I can see myself playinng this with a friend for like 30 min. No story btw. Nothing. This game is worth 30ct. I've payed about a buck and I feel ripped of. I won't refund. I want to see more like this. But next time around how about some actual content. Damn so close to 2d bushido blade... I would've loved that you know.

A very nice tribute to ukiyo-e art and Japanese culture in general, which has its own rhythm to it. Would love to see this game grow, even though it's already nice as it is. Maybe more traditional Japanese music included, or maybe something related to Japanese history or mythology would be nice. Can't wait to see more "challenges" in the game!

I don't understand how this game manages to shutdown my controller almost immediately but clearly controller is no go. Keyboard is kinda meh and no one is playing online so it's hard to recommend this game because alone it's just meh. Go play Nidhog instead.
Kiai Resonance is a slow paced 2D fighting samurai simulator. Unfortunately the animations are rather clunky, while the game is stylised well, it still lacks polish. There's also little in the way of content, just repetitive fights against samey opponents.
The control scheme is also a bit of a mess and needs work. For the price they're charging, this really isn't up to scratch. Arcade fighter fans would be better off sticking with Tekken or Street Fighter which aren't far off this price when on sale, and are much better games.

Great game, got it at 80% off so I can't really complain but I feel that the developers need to add character customisation, more maps and perhaps even more weapon types which will the add different attack stances depending on the weapon and therefore adds more content.
This is a game you would play with you friends for say a couple of hours as there is a lack of content and that the online is dead in my opinion. You'll get tired of it pretty quickly but at a good discount it definitely worth the price. The art style is gorgeous and I wish there are more games with that traditional style.
Controls aren't working in challenge mode. Nice game, but pretty boring if I can't figure out how to play outside of the basic arcade mode.

Good game and it's very fun to play with friends who also miss Bushido Blade, However, it's more of a concept than a full experience (the asking price is fair though). The visuals and audio are beautiful and fit the mood perfectly, but the hitbox is dubious at best, there is little feedback and it's hard to tell the moves from the limited set of animations. Also it's pretty barebones when it comes to characters, weapons and modes. If the developers could improve on these aspects we could have something truly special here. The good ideas and intentions are already in the right place.
It's a nice game. Has many working mechanics. The only bad part that game is very small it's almost nothing, counting no one play online. I think this game should have more weapons, maps and characters, it would be almost Bushido Blade in 2D.
Challenges are fun. If you get this game you should definitely try them. Because if not challenges, I'll not reccomend this game, because again, it's has almost nothing.

Kia Resonance has a simple fighting system that is based on skill and reflexes. Less then a quater second of reaction time makes all the diffrence in one-hit-to-win duels, and once you get good at this it becomes incredibly satisfying to wreck the AI with well-timed counters and quick strikes.
My only complaint is the lack of variety. There are two characters and four total maps. With as simple as the game is, I can't imagine it would be too difficult to add a few more sets of scenery to duel on, and a couple more characters to cleave through. A difficulty option would also be nice, because it would be nice to duel a more skilled oponent. This would be instead accomplished by multiplayer, but its dead.
Is it worth $5? For me, yes. For you? If you think that price is appropriate for a simple game that'll you will beat within an hour, and master within three, only to return to it every once and a while to kill time when you can't decide what to play-- then yes.
What this game truly needs is a modding community. I think some mods adding in extra levels, characters, and maybe even some new techniques would make this game incredible, and maybe even revive the dead multiplayer again.

Inconvénients :
seulement 3 décores, 2 avatars et ( plus gènant) on ne peut pas augmenter la difficulter des IA. De plus, le jeu est peu connu, donc il n'y a personne (pour le moment) sur le server.
En solo, ce petit jeu peu vous occuper 1 heure ou 2, puis faire un combat de temps en temps pour tuer le temps. Mais ce jeu prend vraiment toute sa splendeur en multi-joueur. Ce jeu gagnerait à être davantage connu.
Всего три вида удара, блок получается при схлёстывании мечами, контрудар при промахе противника. Выглядит очень стильно, и музыка на фоне атмосферна и приятна, и звуки хороши. Геймплея на час максимум. Но этого вполне хватает что бы игрою насладиться.

Controller play feels loose and the distance for an effective attack/counterattack seems to change. If you're looking for couch co-op swordplay just get Nidhogg.
The art is beautiful indeed, but that's all this game has to sell. The gameplay, albeit technical because it relies on reflexes and mindgame, is slow (on purpose, I assume, to fit with the zen atmosphere of the graphics and the music) and becomes boring quite fast. The content is rachitic for a solo player, and I don't see myself suggesting a friend to play with me when we could play Nidhogg. I got it for one dollar but it still felt too expensive, as someone else commented this game feels like a prototype, albeit promising but a prototype nonetheless.
Good dueling style game, but needs more contnent. Still for multiplayer it is worth it.
