Simple arcade game with enjoyable gameplay and decent sounds. Every 10 levels compete in different games. Gameplay is similar to Pang where you shoot up to destroy bouncing blobs and other stuff. Overall for a Pang clone it's quite good.

This is a very fun rehash of some very popular retro games. The more I play Juanito Arcade Mayhem the more I realize how good it really is. It takes elements from popular old school games and merges those elements with a side scrolling shooter mechanic. Each different game mode you unlock by beating previous game modes and collecting stars.
It can be very difficult at first (or maybe I just suck at games). Once you master the controls and unlock more power ups it makes previous levels a bit easier to gain some missing stars you may have.
You can tell the developers of this game loved retro gaming and it shows. This is one of those games I'd consider a hidden gem.

One of the best coop games you could be playing on Steam right now. For such simple gameplay, there's lots of creative levels and bosses. Stop sleeping on this when you pass by it during sales.
Nice bouncing ball shooter.
Responsive controls, cute characters, gradually increased difficulty. Each level is short, perfect for a quick play during a lunch break.
The core mechanic is simple: you always shoot straight upward, and the ball bounces around the screen except the Pac-Man levels. Your job is to shoot while dodging the ball.
What starts as a straightforward concept quickly evolves: bricks, falling Tetris pieces, armor or shields, lava craters and more. As you progress you unlock gun upgrades, from rapid fire guns to grenade launchers and lasers. The winning strategy isn’t frantically tapping to try to kill fast, but being patient: watch where the ball is heading, slide if it's too close, make use of special weapons like laser beams to trap balls in between.
Boss fights are highlights. From King Kong to Pac-Man, each one pays homage to a classic. You face a boss every 9 levels, though sometimes level 1 can be tougher than level 6. Later stages can get chaotic with flying axes, again, survival first strike second. Don’t worry if you die, this game is not easy.
The character suits are well animated, unlocked from the start with no DLC required. The skeleton suit is my favorite, Mario eats chili and Goku fires himself made me giggle.
I enjoyed this game. My only complaint is after 2.7 hours of gameplay with multiple sessions, I haven’t received any trading cards.

Nailing the audio and visual references is impressive but the simplistic gameplay can't hold up against the dress setting of better games.

I've seen the term "hidden gem" thrown around a lot but never have I felt it more true than here.
This game is a Pang-like—assuming that's a thing—so you'll be running on a flat floor shooting at a buncha bouncing balls. This one is rather unlike any of these games I've played before however, and it's shockingly well executed for how equally shockingly unknown it is. With its tight controls and gameplay, a sense of progression and variety in level design/power-ups that's just right, as well as its polished feel with remarkable cartoony animation, I couldn't get enough of it. At first glance I was averse to the fairly generic design for the main character but it more than makes up for it with its animated charm. To even think I had that thought seems silly now. Really the biggest criticism I can think of is the lukewarm storytelling but heck, that's also technically more fleshed out than an arcady game like this has any right to be.
Hopefully this review helps it gain at least a little bit of extra traction. If you enjoy arcade-type games and don't play this one you're missing out, I guarantee you.
Juanito Arcade Mayhem has amazing retro-style graphics inspired by the old arcade games like Donkey Kong, Arkanoid or Tetris. The gameplay is really fun but also quite challening - sometimes you might feel like giving up, but finishing a tough level feels good.

Me encuentro con este increíble juego de factoría argenta, hecho con mucha pasión.
Juego sencillo en su ejecución pero igual así muy divertido de a un solo jugador pero aún mejor de a dos.
Tanto los efectos de sonido como la música dan una nostalgia 8 bits que enamora. La conversión a este formato del clásico tema de Volver al Futuro, Power of Love de Huey Lewis, es fantástico.
La cantidad de guiños a juegos clásicos les hará saltar más de una sonrisa.
Ojala que algún día saquen una continuación. Mientras, lo recomiendo con o sin descuento. Vale cada centavo.

Esta bastante mejor de lo que esperaba, y su dificultad bastante alta hasta en niveles bajos. No es de mis generos favoritos, pero esta muy bueno, recomendable. Y esa mezcla con juegos retros esta muy bien lograda.
Pour moi ce jeu est un chef d'oeuvre comme Cuphead.... un vrai classique a l'ancienne ... Je l'ai déjà terminé plein de fois en version piraté et la je me suis dis qu'il vaut la peine d’être encouragé et acheté !

Un jeu avec de beaux visuels mais au gameplay pas intéréssant. Peut être que ceux qui ont poussé le vice assez loin me diront que le jeu devient très bien, mais le premier monde était déjà d'un ennui mortel et quand j'ai vu que c'était rebelotte pour le deuxième, j'ai demandé un remboursement.
Pourtant j'suis plutôt le public : esquiver et shooter comme dans un Megaman, c'est plutôt ma came. Mais c'est juste une successions de niveaux très répétitifs. Ce qui sauve le jeu à mon goût, ce sont les visuels, avec des petites refs généreuses aux classiques de l'arcade mais ce n'est pas suffisant pour le rendre fun.
Les musiques dans un style techno trance m'ont vite soulé aussi.
Bref, peut être qu'avec un peu plus de patience, le jeu finit par être bien, mais y'a bien trop de bons jeux là dehors pour perdre son temps sur celui là.

At its core, Juanito is an addictive score-chasing shooter. It offers a fair selection of level types each with its own mechanics. You could put different shapes and some lines in place of all the entities in this game and it would still be fun. Yet it has wonderful art and is one of those games where the graphics are timeless. So much love went into the animations.
Everything in this game is a nod to gamers, to classic era arcade game-inspired soundtrack and levels. It's a gamer for gamers. I wish I could have paid full price for this game in hopes the developer makes a sequel or another game in the future. I really enjoyed this title. It will leave you saying, just one more level, just one more...

Es el único juego en el que podes comerte un Guaymallén, así que juegazo.

Bit of a hidden gem and plenty of love in there for the old school games. Some pretty solid mechanics and tricks. Controls were tight and the game play was better than I was expecting for a pang style game.

Too repetitive. It's fun at first but then you realize there are many levels with the exact same thing to do (just vary 1 thing per world but all levels of each world are basically the same).
I am spanish speaker and I remember when this game was announce they talked about the inspiration on retro games, etc but would be more like references or cameos because it dosent change that much how you play the game...

La verdad me sorprendí mucho la primera vez que vi este juego, un amigo que estuvo realizando un trabajo para la facultad donde hablaba sobre el desarrollo de juegos independientes en argentina y pudo hablar con sus creadores y llego a mostrarme algo del mismo.
Ahora si, en cuanto a Juanito Mayhem es un juego inspirado en el clásico Pong, este goza de una excelente calidad en cuanto a animaciones y sus controles son perfectos, es un juego apto para cualquiera que este buscando algo para pasar el tiempo y divertirse, para el jugador casual podría decirle que este es su juego.
Este se encuentra plagado de referencias a otros clásicos y ademas cuenta también con un modo supervivencia para cuando acabas la aventura y un modo para dos jugadores.
Si estas dudando en comprarlo podes probar la versión de teléfono que es gratuita y se tiene casi la misma experiencia solo que no cuenta con su modo cooperativo.

Juanito es un chico apasionado por los videojuegos y con una gran habilidad para el Space Invaders. Aunque parezca una habilidad inútil, él es el elegido para detener una invasión de clonocélulas junto con su amigo alien Gluk. ¿Por qué habrían de detenerlas? Bueno, porque quieren terminar con la gran pasión de Juanito, sus videojuegos.
A principios de Agosto Game Ever, un estudio de videojuegos emergente de Argentina, lanzo Juanito Arcade Mayhem. Este es un juego con estilo retro que homenajea a esos clásicos que marcaron la infancia de muchos, como por ejemplo, Tetris, Wonder Boy y Arkanoid.
La historia comienza cuando Juanito, un gamer de ley y apasionado de los clásicos, que está jugando como suele hacer día a día, cuando de repente un ataque de clonocélulas invade el dispositivo donde se recreaba. Así aparece Gluk, el amigo alien de Juanito, que hace que el personaje principal se meta dentro de los videojuegos para salvarlos de las malvadas clonocelulas.

Como jugadores tendremos que tomar el lugar de Juanito y salvar a distintos videojuegos que se irán presentando a lo largo de la historia, Algunos de los títulos incluyen Tetris, Wonder Boy, Arkanoid y Pac Man, entre otros juegos retro, incluyendo un nivel secreto al final del juego.
Dentro del universo de Juanito comenzaremos explorando los juegos en un orden pre establecido. al principio nos cruzaremos con el Tetris, para luego pasar a otro título y así sucesivamente. Esto se logra consiguiendo estrellas por pasar cada nivel, entre 1 o 3 de estas, dependiendo de nuestro desempeño. Para explicarlo mejor, el juego se divide en “Juegos ”, que a su vez tienen niveles, en los cuales podemos conseguir las estrellas. Además, el ultimo nivel siempre es llamado “Nivel X”, que será el más importante y donde suelen aparecer personajes importantes, como por ejemplo Donkey Kong colgado de unos edificios en el Tetris.
Los controles del juego son fáciles, y usan sólo 4 botones, tal cual como una vieja máquina de arcade. En el juego solo podremos movernos de izquierda a derecha y tendremos la opción de disparar, para matar las clonocélulas, y de derrapar, para tratar de esquivarlas.
Como cualquier juego retro, Juanito Arcade Mayhem es un titulo difícil de jugar en muchas ocasiones, aunque como nos dicen sus desarrolladores, siempre hay una estrategia para cada nivel.
Por otro lado, además de clonocélulas y otros enemigos, desde el cielo caen ítems que nos dan puntos para conseguir más score al final de la partida. Entre los bonificadores podemos observar Alfajores, Choripanes y Empanadas, entre otras cosas bien Argentas.
También los power ups dicen presente, y a medida que vayamos jugando, se irán desbloqueando ciertas habilidades, como escudos, potencia para nuestra pistola o una habilidad para detener por un momento la pantalla.
Aunque podemos optar por 3 tipos de dificultad, Fácil, Normal y Experto. Sea cual sea el tipo que juguemos, las mismas está muy bien lograda, y el juego causa que más de una vez se nos crispen los pelos.
En cuanto a modos de juego, este título trae 3, el modo historia que detallamos arriba, el modo Supervivencia, donde tendremos que tratar de llegar lo más lejos posible sin morir ni una sola vez, y el modo Cooperativo, donde podremos jugar de a 2 jugadores simultáneos y locales, no via internet.
Otro aspecto divertido a destacar es que el juego incluye 80 logros, que sin duda es un reto conseguir. Eso sí, también existen los anti logros, que ganaremos en diversas ocasiones cuando perdamos y te van a dejar masticando bronca mientras te reís.
Para ir finalizando cada juego tiene físicas adaptadas a las del juego original, por lo cual tendremos que ir acostumbrando al cambio nivel por nivel.
En resumen Juanito Arcade Mayhem, es un videojuego que vale la pena jugar. Tiene un excelente lado grafico al igual que sonoro y complementa todo esto con su adictiva jugabilidad. Está repleto de viejos clásicos que a más de uno le hará recordar sus tiempos de oro, rodeados de los arcades y las fichas. El único problema que tuvimos es que la historia se nos hizo corta y nos dejó con ganas de mas.
Sin dudarlo Juanito es hoy una de las mejores creaciones Argentinas en la industria de los videojuegos.

Now THIS is how you pay homage to a classic franchise while keeping things fresh and unique. You may be familiar with the Buster Bros/Pang series, where you pop bouncing bubbles from below, splitting them into pairs of smaller bubbles. They were simple, fun, and very challenging and many have fond memories of playing them in the arcade or on their SNES. Arcade Mayhem Juanito takes the same fundamental idea and builds upon it with new mechanics and spectacular presentation.
Bubbles have been replaced with "Clonocells" in AMJ, and they come in several varieties. Some wear helmets and need more shots to break down. Some have retractable armor and are only vulnerable for very brief periods in their bounce arc. Some have offensive capabilities of their own and fire projectiles across the screen or drop sticky goo on the floor. The new types are introduced one at a time so you have a chance to get used to their behavior before a new type gets added to the mix. There is a decent amount of strategy involved in taking out the Colonocells, as focusing on the wrong ones might compromise your maneuverability and make things more difficult.
Of course, there are a variety of power-ups available to give you an edge. Like the enemy types, the power-ups are introduced one at a time and spaced out over the length of the game. They are all fun to use and have context-specific advantages. The Eureka gun, for instance, fires a spray of projectiles in an arc and is great for wiping out armored Cronocells. The Laser gun, which creates vertical barriers that remain on screen for several seconds, is useful for "trapping" Cronocells that fire at you and taking them out before they pose much of a threat. Power-ups tend to drop quite frequently so it's worth picking them up whenever you see them.
Besides the enemy types and power-ups, a unique feature of AMJ are the unique mechanics that are present in each of the 8 different worlds based on familiar video games. The world based on Ttris, for instance, will have you dealing with falling blocks as well as the Cronocells. The Pac Man-themed world will only allow you to damage Cronocells after you pick up a power pellet that periodically appears on the sides of the playfield. These mechanics go a long way in making each world feel unique and keeping you on your toes. There are also boss levels that pose unique challenges, such as a showdown between Wonder Boy and Master Higgins where they both constantly cross the screen throwing torrents of hammers that are harmful to the Cronocells but also to yourself. I really gotta commend the way the game stays fresh from beginning to end. It never gets stale or repetitive thanks to the variation in enemies, weapons and level mechanics.
I also must give credit to the game's outstanding presentation. The characters are all very cartoony and exceptionally well animated (some of the bosses look particularly impressive). The themed worlds manage to capture the aesthetic of the games they pay tribute to while remaining distinct enough to avoid legal troubles. The soundtrack is also great, with tunes that integrate musical elements from their respective game worlds. Even the victory and defeat screens feature unique art for each world and they look great. There are tons of references to classic games of the past, from in-jokes (like your standard gun once belonging to Earthworm Jim) to a variety of pajamas you can wear that include Super Mario and Mega Man outfits (complete with unique animations).
If you're a fan of Buster Bros/Pang (or classic arcade games in general), there is a lot to like in Arcade Mayhem Juanito. It's fun and challenging and the presentation is top-notch. Definitely recommended.

If you ever played the Flash classic 'Bubble Trouble' on Miniclip, this'll very likely be up your alley. It's also wall-to-wall loaded with references to 80s material, and it somehow implemented these references in a way that felt endearing rather than pandering to a certain demographic.
Each level takes on the iconography of a classic arcade-style game (Donkey Kong, Archanoid/Breakout, Pacman etc.) Instead of going for the - considerably cheaper - route of stylizing everything in an 8-bit or 16-bit manner, Juanito features surprisingly clean frame-by-frame animation. As a result, the game feels like a loving tribute to the games of the 80s, rather than a cheap imitation of their style.
Some levels are hectic and challenging, but nothing in the game feels like it gets unfair. The element that gets frustrating is the lack of indication of progress in a level. The number of enemies fluctuates per level, and sometimes its difficult to predict how long the levels going to go on for, or if you're particularly near to the end.
Juanito: Arcade Mayhem was pretty fun to play through, and it's not half bad on couch co-op, either.

El juego es demasiado simple para mi gusto, es spamear un boton (si fuera mantenerlo pulsado te perderias de la mitad del gameplay pero seria mas comodo) para disparar, y esquivar cuando lo necesitas, esta bueno que hagan referencias a juegos retro y eso, pero es demasiado simple y aburre demasiado rapido.

[i]Arcade Mayhem Juanito[/i] is a trip down memory lane for those who remember the dawn of video games...namely Atari age games. It follows Juanito (or "Little Juan"), a kid who's obsessed with video games with his alien sidekick (never explained why he's around) who ends up sucked inside of his video game to battle strange blobs corrupting his games.
The gameplay involves you essentially playing in [i]Space Invaders[/i] mode...meaning you're only shooting upward. Don't expect to shoot side-to-side or at angles. Why is it like this? I don't know. Ask the developers. You can pick up powerups, charge your shot, slide...basically some arcade controls with a hint of [i]Megaman[/i]. You delve into 8 worlds, a tutorial world, and a final boss world. There's also a survival mode. Of course, if you're having trouble, there's a co-op mode for both story and survival modes (local co-op. I think Steam has that remote play thing to help out)
The animation behind this game is great! It reminds me of a Nickelodeon style cartoon similar to [i]The Loud House[/i] and possibly [i]Cuphead[/i] with all enemies appear...though not as animated (kind of hard to beat how much of [i]Cuphead[/i] was animated). This goes well with the retro covers to set the mood of what you're playing and give you a sense of nostalgia if you're from the 80's or the 90's.
If I had any critiques, it would be that the lore isn't properly explained and that some levels are either poorly designed or repetitive. It also doesn't help that I only shoot upwards instead of to my sides, where my biggest threats often are. The challenge of getting 100% is difficult, but not impossible. If you're an achievement hunter, you may struggle for a while.
Would I recommend [i]Arcade Mayhem Juanito[/i]? Sure! It's got a lot of charm for someone who enjoys vintage arcade game experiences. If you're looking for that or if the cartoon style seemed appealing to you, I'd recommend giving it a shot. With its layout, you're pretty much getting 8 worlds (+1 tutorial, +1 final boss, +survival) more or less for $1 each. Though if you're looking for a bargain, I would wait for a sale. Recommended sales price would be $5-$7.50 if you're a bargain hunter.
