Hypnospace Outlaw was a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gem back in the day and hell it still is. Its that stupid quirky game at first and turns into actual real ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dread when you read deep into it. How so many people's lifes were changed by Hypnospace and how you can prevent people from dying at the end of it. God its so tragic, what an amazing game and I hope to see more Hypnospace since were getting its sequel... soon I'm guessing? Well I hope. Anyways a great... great game.

SO FUN.

If you like idle scrolling on the web, or often find yourself mindlessly scrolling through the internet, this game is for you. You're basically exploring the internet and given an actual objective, which lets you idle-scroll and feel like you're accomplishing something.
I think what was shocking was how deep this game went. There's so much more than what's presented to you, which forces you to use your own brain and scout the internet to find them.

Over-all, I really enjoyed playing this game, and I think it's well worth its price. I wish I could experience it once more. :^(

A very unique gameplay loop, inspired aesthetic, and just overall good time, well worth the sale price at least. The in game viruses (not actually infecting you, but your game character) are pretty damn annoying though, but I guess by design.

You'll essentially be going through forums in a fictional 90's/y2k style potential future world, trying to moderate for pretty much a full dive/you are actually inside the internet style scenario (at least others are). Finding infractions won't be as simple as just reading a couple things though, usually it's hidden behind searches that you need to discover via the reading, finding ways to get past passwords, interacting with people, etc.

While a lot of it is pretty straight-forward, I did find myself stuck quite a few times, which wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have spam viruses (as mentioned, not actual viruses but ones your character has in hypnospace) yelling at you 24/7 forcing you to also close things down, saying the same things over and over again. If it wasn't for a certain virus guy, the game would have been a lot more enjoyable, cuz he way outstayed his welcome. All things considered though, it's a nice immersive nostalgia bait internet space that never actually existed, but did in vague aesthetic, that harkens back to 90's/early 2000's style dreams of the future and forum posting.

You'll probably get stuck, you'll probably be annoyed by the virus, but if you can get past that stuff (maybe via a guide if you get really frustrated or just patience), you'll enjoy this experience that there aren't a million like. I have no regrets playing it, but I'm also the type of person that doesn't need to be constantly given success and positive vibes only, I'm someone who finds value in art not just making me feel good, but giving me different sometimes even negative emotions to convey messages/vibes. If you're the same sort as me, you'll like it.

Also don't worry, there are days, but they aren't rushing you, nor is the battery life, it follows a pretty basic storyline structure where it moves days with story beats, not real time as a failure state.

This was a delightful experience of exploring a web that never existed and fiddling with an older computer. I didn't exist at a time of the early internet (this is trying to emulate), but it reminded me of my early time on the web. Exploring pages, or more recently klicking through wierd Webrings or Neocities pages, finding interesting and funny stuff.

The whole experience lives from world building and it delivers. Its like i have seen simmilar dramas, pages and people before. I realy like the writing and the (fake) people, they feel very real. A lot of the times I have been BWL out loud, but it also left an emotional impact and left me thinking. These days the internet space feels so impersonal, and hostile. Like the whole place is just the dumpster, everyone trying not to be cringy.

This is defenetly not for everyone, but I really enjoyed my time in Hypnospace.

Let's break down Hypnospace Outlaw into three components.

1. Gameplay (or, what you should know)

Despite being a video game, how Hypnospace actually plays often gets ignored or unexplained when all the attention goes to its design aesthetics, so let's tackle that briefly first for anyone who's not played the game but is curious.

Hypnospace Outlaw is a puzzle game that takes place in 1999, in what is effectively an isolated small-scale version of the internet (you'll get the full details in the game). You play as one of its crowdsourced moderators, tasked to make sure things are running smoothly by cracking down assigned case reports - you do this by browsing the web as it were, locating and ban-hammering the offenses. These start out straightforward: find copyright-infringing images, check on a reported harassment, and other basic checks which effectively teach you how to navigate the system and how to use the various search and data check tools at your disposals. Soon the cases start getting trickier where you might only have a vague notion of what's going on and where, and it's this where the true puzzles begin to lie. It is, in effect, a detective game: investigate pages for initial signs, track down specific users for potential clues, learn the existence of hidden sub-sites and crack down the methods to access them. It's a test of your deduction and tracking skills, and the late-game investigations give you a real thrill of the chase as pieces begin to click together and you crack people's passwords to access the files they wish to keep hidden. With no time limit, you are in no rush - and that's good, because many of the game's internal webpages can be really in-depth in different ways, and you want to spend a good amount of time simply enjoying falling down the rabbit holes.

As a pure game, it's one of the more enjoyable puzzle games I've played in years, giving you the right amount of nudging along to never make you feel like you're completely aimless and carefully teaching you all the tools and tricks you need to feel like a real wizard when you utilise them to their full extent.

2. The aesthetics (or, why you are here to begin with)

Chances are the turn-of-millennium retro vibe is what has made you hear about Hypnospace Outlaw in the first instance; it was certainly the reason it popped up on my radar and the only thing I kept hearing about it before I dove in deeper. And it is true - the design *is* fantastic.

How Hypnospace Outlaw looks and sounds is an exaggerated representation of web 1.0, in a manner that makes it feel a little more like pure fantasy rather than a faithful depiction of reality. It's all very over-the-top across all the senses: the surface-level tackiness of the web design with the glaring fonts and gifs running amok, the crusty video players and their Realmedia-realness, the plastic MIDI sounds of the music that bedroom musicians with no budget would upload, the lingo that people use. In that sense, Hypnospace Outlaw plays up to all the trendy nostalgia for this period and to all the imagined nostalgia of people who weren't there originally but have come to embrace it since. However, Hypnospace has clearly been made by people who not only were there and have positive memories of the period, but who *understand* what exactly it is about those design points that makes it so memorable and magical. That's why the exaggeration feels right: it emphasises certain aspects in a hyper-real way, but captures how it felt just right. The graphics have that old-school crust but in a beautifully intentional and designed manner that elevates it from a retraux retread to a love letter, the sounds capture the period perfectly and the soundtrack - both the in-game musicians' music and the actual game score - ranges from adorably terrible to some genuinely excellent ambient and electronica.

3. The heart (or, why you should care)

What makes Hypnospace Outlaw such a great and memorable experience is neither how it operates nor how it looks (great as those are), but how its writing and design come together to capture what made the early internet so special: the people.

Before social media, the main way people truly put themselves into the internet was through their personal websites. The keyword here being *personal*: the sites could range from crude graphic design hells to beautiful displays of HTML magic, but they always strove to capture the essence of their creator. This is what Hypnospace Outlaw emphasises in its version of the internet - behind each of its myriad of websites is a real person. Only a few have an 'about me' section on their site, but you don't need a bluntly laid-out biography to understand who these people are: their unique ways of writing and how they've designed their virtual homes make each one pop out as an individual. Most importantly, they're not alone: the denizens of Hypnospace form communities and relationships, take it upon themselves to find their own roles from helpful tips to graphic design that they then share with others, link their friends on their sites or directly leave messages to them (or the people who they perceived have wronged them) on their pages. The game's slowly unfolding story goes through a couple of time skips and whenever you return to the internet, you'll see how these have changed in your absence: relationships have blossomed or petered out, new trends have risen, new communities or movements have been created and real-life events have caused reactions.

As a moderator whose duty it is to visit all these places while searching for your next mission objective or the clue to take you there, you get to know these people. You learn their histories and their roles in the communities, who they've befriended, what makes them tick - who they are behind the screens. By the end of the game I found myself thinking I'm part of the web village: checking up on specific people whose names I knew by heart to see how their personal story is going, thinking "*of course* x is doing y" as I loaded up their site, finding it somehow pleasing to see the local music reviewer's website evolve from scans of hand-written notes to a pretty web portal, sharing a pang of sadness as I learned more about what had happened to some of the established communities right before my character joined the service. Hypnospace Outlaw is a fantastically written game, and you only realise it organically through just how familiar you become with these fictional personalities by the time the later time skips take place. The game's final missions really hammer it down as they not only push you to investigate the whole breadth of the virtual world once more but to do so across the different time frames by way of archived captures: it's one of the most emotionally satisfying finales I've played in a while.

Hypnospace Outlaw is an excellent detective puzzle game that makes you really care about the people whose lives you passively observe while carrying out your duties. The Y2K aesthetics are fantastic, but the game is so much more than just millennial nostalgia bait.

Hypnospace Outlaw is a humorous yet very sincere recreation of pre-Y2K internet culture and aesthetics, packed full of unique art, music, and writing everywhere you look. (Especially the music, gosh!)

The puzzles can be tricky if you don't pay attention to the little details - but as a result feel super rewarding to solve. Be prepared to spend a lot of time reading every piece of text you come across and don't forget to take advantage of the search function!

Most of the story comes from getting familiar with the characters, which makes for a pretty emotional finale. I very much vibe with the way the game reflects the depths inherent in people, and how you can only every get a glimpse of their entirety in casual online interactions. And even with the humor and subtle horrors taking center stage, the overall message about the power of creativity, community, and compassion really stood out to me.

HypnOS is a sleeptime OS of the fictional late 90s setting, and you're hired as a moderator to work on keeping its users in check. To do so, you'll receive e-mails from the higher-ups giving you cases to solve, where you'll then have to look for those infringements before reporting them. By entering "zones", you're given (almost) full permission to explore users pages and meet the people behind those sites, allowing you to decide when to continue with the story.

[i]Definitely [/i]not a game for everyone, and your enjoyment of the adventure will be highly dictated by your enjoyment of point and click games, exploration games and, in a certain way, visual novels. I truly believe you cannot experience the entire game if you're not willing to get lost in rabbit hole after rabbit hole of reading the pages present in the game. However, if you enjoy any of those three genres, chances are you'll love Hypnospace Outlaw if you're willing to give it a chance.

It is not a [i]pricy [/i]game. And while I do know lots of people prefer to watch others playing, be it a gameplay on youtube or a friend going through it, if interested I [i]really [/i]recommend going through it alone and blind for your first experience. I don't think watching this game through someone else gives the same feeling as actively exploring the hypnospace yourself.

[h3]Personal review (spoilers past this area!)[/h3]

I was not even born in the time this game is set, so who's to say I [i]experienced [/i]the 90s internet. However, exploring the setting created for Hypnospace Outlaw made me [i]crave [/i]that experience, made me feel a [i]nostalgia [/i]I didn't even know I could feel for something I wasn't around for. Every page you click, every page you read through has so much personality packed on them that, no matter which one, I really do look at them and go "yeah, this is a page I'd expect to see from a teenager in the late 90s" filled with gory cartoons and vaguely punk music or "yeah, this really reads as something i'd find in a teachers blog" sharing artwork of her students and creating a memorial page for loved ones.

I'm not necessarily someone hard to please with characters, however, seeing them as [i]believable [/i]people, who I could see around, does take a bit more and Hypnospace Outlaw [i]excels[/i] in that. Character after character, the more I met and read about them, through each of the 3 days this story is set in, the more I saw them as someone I really could just find in real life. There were lots of times those fictional characters reminded me of people I genuinely knew and couldn't help but [i]cheer [/i]for. From seeing an old man not knowing how to use the internet and slowly getting the hang of it to teenagers being, well, teenagers, or a couple playing the universe equivalent of D&D and, as you explore, learning that the guy sucks. At points you can't help but cheer and care for those characters, wanting Sarah to leave her husband or Tiff to get some peace from most people surrounding her, hoping the five zones are reinstated or to [i]please just stop making me have to flag the damn fish cartoon.[/i]

After the "third day" working there, we get a singular case to stop a hacker attack in Teentopia. And by doing so, we're finally led to the ending of the game. Years go by and we find ourself in the present days, learning that this same attack caused the same thing we've been told to be a "hoax" since the start of the game to actually happen and fry the brains of a few people. We are now part of a restoring and archiving project, trying to retrieve information from old pages to help people we [i]did [/i]meet (if you explored the pages) before! Seeing Tamara actually got some success after some people making fun of her for "being in every zone" or Tim, now reformed and trying to make some good was great, but I think the best feeling for me was seeing Samantha who was undercover, knowing something was wrong and wanting our help to really find out what exactly happen in the 2000s crash.

And it goes smoothly for a little. We find some things the other people in the project are looking for. And suddenly Dylan, one of the two creators of the Hypnospace, joins the group.

Seeing the notification Dylan had joined us for the first time sent a shiver down my spine. After the "second" day we already know there's something more going with him, so seeing his icon and name pop-up again was horrifying at first. Because it meant he [i]knew [/i]not only there was something else, but he also knew what we were trying to do.

You get some more fun time to explore the pages, finding out documents that showed us that, indeed, Dylan knew all along about the issues with Hypnospace messing around with sleep quality and not being safe. That the CEO himself was aware, but neither did anything to stop or improve, choosing to continue working on side projects for the OS. And, through Tim's attack, they found a perfect excuse to wash their hands of any guilt.

Thiiis is where the game falls off a bit for me.

After all that time enjoying myself in the space, learning about those characters, the ending just feels... Lacking, personally. It isn't necessarily bad or anything, and I didn't expect some big "yes let's expose the big bad evil in Dylan and get punitive justice!" moment. But at the same time it felt rushed, it also felt like there was a lot missing to me. We get Dylan to confess to knowing about the effects, yes, and Tim now knows he did nothing bad. We get some notes from Dylan apologizing to the people who have died... And then what?

Nothing.

After such a fun time with the game, it felt incomplete after that. I expected at the very least a small video like the one we got after the 2000s crash showing the victims, what happened etc, but we get [i]nothing[/i]. We play Outlaw, we "get" Dylan, and that's it. Now we can go explore the rest of the pages we never saw before. After such a surprise meeting all those people I've met in the past again, now in the present, having them so quickly taken away with no more talking or elaboration left me frustrated, in a way. We don't know what happened to Dylan afterwards, we get no words from Samantha, we don't know how Tim felt learning that he spent those 6 years in prison for nothing.

The post-game is also... Eh? Seeing that I had so many pages I had not seen before left me excited to see what is it I had missed! What I didn't find or look for in those three periods of time, believing there most definitely was more! Only to learn that, for most of those, it was either repeats of the same page or pages with veery few changes. Not bad, still gave me a chance to explore this world more (and spend my hypnocoins, now that I had been able to hack and get a infinite number of them) and spend my last few hours with this game, but not what I first expected by seeing so many empty pages basically calling for me.

It is not the perfect game, but very much an enjoyable one. There's so much going on that you can't help but want to know more, which is exactly the one criticism I have with it. At the end of it all, we can't know anymore. It's alright and doesn't take much away from the experience to me, but at the moment itself it definitely left me annoyed.

Overall, Hypnospace Outlaw isn't something I'd go around recommending for everyone, however, if I know someone who'd enjoy any of the aspects that made me entranced by this game (and I know wouldn't be as annoyed by the ending as I was), it's definitely something I'd suggest playing.

As someone who didn't get to experience the era of the internet this game is about but loves to explore it now on archival websites... This is just such a cool concept! Masterfully executed, too. It helped me break the habit of scrolling through the few social media I had at the time of playing this - it satisfied that same urge, and then helped me to transition into the habit of reading or playing other text-based games instead of scrolling.

PS don't download the extended endgame mod, it's complete buns. obtuse, unintuitive and the tone doesn't match canon events whatsoever. other mods for pages are v cool though, makes the game feel like a real participatory internet.

[H1] HypnoSpace Outlaw is a different kind of point and click adventure. [/H1]

Bordering on full on simulation of the early internet, this game offers an experience unlike any other out there. You are a glorified moderator surfing the 90's web and given tasks to achieve. There are hubs and each user has their own websites which are interconnected and sometimes hidden, while being part of the hub. Users react to your actions but also to other changes to hypnospace as time goes on. They all have their own stories to tell, whether that's happy, cringe, angsty, confused or downright heartbreaking.
The amount of detail here is insane. As authentic as the inspirations it's drawing from, the hypnospace world feels alive, like a time capsule of the era.

The game runs as if you are running an OS (and in a way you are), controlling the game... or rather browsing is second nature, pretty much what we do on our own computer. You find stickers, backgrounds and themes to unlock and customize your experience and watch what you click because you might even get a virus.

Tons of reading to do but it's somewhat alleviated by the handy TTS program at your disposal.

There really isn't much else to say about it, it's extremely rare to find a game characterized as strongly as this one. If the premise interests you even a little bit you should experience this game now.

A really good game to get lost in, absolutely filled with personality in every corner, definitely has a nice 90s vibe even if you weren't around for the 90s internet (I wasn't)

Only thing I don't like is act 4, it feels a little rushed to me, that aside I think it's good you get to revisit every page again at any date

it's a huge shame Dreamsettler was cancelled, I'd love to play a game like this again on an era I feel more familiar with (2000s and 2010s are fairly similar right? right??)

I hadn’t quite been born yet in 1999, but it’s clear how much passion and care went into recreating the internet of that era. One day I hope to make something even half as good that could capture the internet of my own childhood.

Oh boy, com certeza é o jogo mais difícil que eu peguei pra fazer uma review, mas eu acabei de "zerar" e senti a necessidade de passar isso a frente.

"The Future is you", Esse é o slogan do Hypnospace, uma espécie de internet do final dos anos 90 e começo dos anos 2000 (época em que o jogo se ambienta também), mas em um mundo onde a internet é acessada por um aparelho conectado a sua cabeça para que você consiga acessar a internet enquanto "sonha".

E você, sim você! Assume o papel de um moderador dessa "internet". A gameplay é muito simples, você recebe e-mails de um superior relatando algum tipo de problema que está acontecendo e o seu papel como moderador é reportá-los e remover tudo o que estiver prejudicando essa comunidade maravilhosamente caótica que é a internet!

A internet em sí é o maior charme desse jogo, isso dito de mim, que não vivi essa época "de ouro" da internet, cheia de GIFS, com páginas escandalosas, músicas espalhafatosas e blogs sobre qualquer coisa e a vó dessas qualquer coisas também.
E pra mim, o maior brilho do jogo está aí, apesar do jogo possuir arcos e um plot que vai se avançando conforme você vai resolvendo os casos, ele te deixa livre pra explorar todas as páginas que quiser, e eu nunca vi um jogo construir um mundo virtual tão orgânico quanto esse jogo, tudo é muito cheio de vida, cheio de defeitos também, que fazem aquele mundo parecer mais vivo ainda, você sente a personalidade de cada um dos personagens daquele mundo só através das páginas deles, e das interações que as páginas tem entre si.. pra exemplificar melhor, existem comunidades distintas no jogo.

Como a minha favorita: A Goodtime Valley, que é basicamente a comunidade onde se reúnem os idosos confusos com a internet, com páginas hilárias contando as fake-news mais ridículas possíveis, páginas promovendo o "satanic-panic", conspiracionistas malucos e pessoas só genuinamente confusas, além de outros idosos bem fofos só querendo amigos virtuais.
E diversas outras páginas, como a "Teentopia", que é onde se aglomeram os adolescentes edgy, emos, nerds, pessoas que amam muito Pokémo-digo, Squisherz, e hackers trolls que estão sempre espalhando o caos por esse mundo e te causando problemas além de diversas outras comunidades que vão se criando com o tempo.

Mas o jogo não é só sobre essas páginas, um mistério vai se criando conforme o jogo avança, e é aí que estão algumas criticas que eu tenho ao jogo, apesar de ser livre, se quiser avançar na história, você precisa fazer seu papel como moderador e fazer exatamente o que o jogo quer, o que no começo não é o problema, mas conforme o jogo avança, senti que a parte "puzzle" se tornou relativamente complicada a ponto de eu perder a paciência e procurar pela solução, mas isso foram em partes muito específicas, só que pra um jogo que te prende numa imersão tão grande, ter esses momentos onde você precisa sair dele é uma quebra gigantesca.

Mas se me permitem uma dica (literalmente), se estiverem presos, procurem por "hint" no navegador e o jogo basicamente te leva a uma página que tem as respostas, não gosto muito dessa solução, mas eu precisei em certa parte do jogo pra conseguir avançar.

Fora tudo isso, seu plot é bem interessante e tem alguns twists relativamente chocantes conforme avança (a internet afinal, é assustadora).
Mas não recomendo ver muito sobre porque sinto que é um jogo que perde um pouco a graça ao receber spoilers (e é muito fácil tombar com spoilers gigantescos desse jogo ao pesquisar).

I really like Hypnospace Outlaw and I recommend it even though I'm probably not going to finish it. The vibes are amazing and the humor is great, but the interface gameplay is not for me, even if it is extremely inspired. I got it as a gift and the time I spent with it was quite fun, so if it looks like something you would enjoy, go for it!

I will admit, I don't vibe as much with the themes and various elements in this game as some of my friends do. I just don't have that same nostalgic connection or I guess love of the themes at present. Despite that though, I had a great time exploring everything this game had to offer, it was surprisingly fun in a sense just... taking a nice little stroll through so many webpages. Very different, very weird, very cool! Just not 100% my speed, but I'd recommend it to anyone who thinks the visuals or vibe of the game seem neat!

I picked up Hypnospace Outlaw looking for a detective-style game, and while it did fit, what I got was so much more than just that. Hypnospace Outlaw is a great game but it's an even better experience.

At its core, HO is a snapshot of an early internet community. The intricacies, the dramas, the tug of war between monetization and indie users, olds and youngs, leftists and rightists, it encapsulates all of this in a way that doesn't feel forced or insincere. You play as a volunteer moderator for this community, taking on cases for MerchantSoft, the company that runs Hypnospace, while also being able to report violations of your own accord. You'll have to decipher clues, piece together stories, and figure out who people really are. Yes, everything is over the top but so was the late 90's and so was early internet culture.

HO made me care about its users deeply even as a laughed at the silliness of it all. I became mad with moderating power and simultaneously felt helpless towards their plights. When it was all over, I felt a deep loss like an internet community that I was deeply invested in had just shuttered its doors for the last time.

If you're on the fence about HO, the closest thing I can compare it to gameplay-wise is something like Emily is Away or A Normal Lost Phone although I think the detective work and immersion far surpass either of those games. Experience-wise, though, I can't say I've ever played a game like Hypnospace Outlaw. It's fiction but represents a very real time period and a very real (and extremely niche) subculture that isn't often represented well. It's a game that will stick with me for a long time to come and I hope that someday the team is able to make the Dreamsettler they imagined or a spiritual successor of some sort. Even if that never happens though, I am so glad that Hypnospace Outlaw exists and that I was able to play it.

Can't believe I forgot to review this. Hypnospace Outlaw is one of my favorite games of all time, it was one of the first games I ever fully completed, and I have mentioned it in other reviews I have made too because it really is an amazing experience that more people should get to have. The trailers and other reviews make the game seem amazing, but even they don't do it justice. I was fully expecting a silly sandbox game, but got surprised with an incredible story and characters with more depth than any AAA game could ever have. I have played this game 3 times (moved over from an old steam account and rebought it) and I still haven't seen all the webpages or all of the characters.

Clearly has tons of love put into it and deserves more attention. Plus, it goes on sale for pretty cheap if that is what is keeping you off it. I recommend this game a million times over.

Oh, also, if you are looking for another game like this, there is a game called MobOS that isn't out yet and looks very promising, more of a sandbox though.

Overall: I would recommend Granny Cream's Hot Butter Ice Cream to anybody who would appreciate the mix of hot butter and ice cream. You can freeze it up cool, or even put it in your microwave and make it real hot!

Hypnospace Outlaw, without any exaggeration, serves as a key inspiration for many things within my life. It is a silly game at the front, but with its extreme amount of characters and the content in this universe, there is so much more than just its goofy nature. The amount of soul inside this game is nothing short of incredible.

I am someone who struggles to connect with characters, especially within fiction. However, Hypnospace Outlaw did the impossible -- it made me cry over characters. You see people live their lives on the internet pre-Y2K, interacting with the whimsical world, and change over time in meaningful ways.

Hypnospace Outlaw is a love-letter to when the internet was just beginning to become more widely used, where it is unbridled with low quality GIFs and MIDI songs used; and yet, that is so magical despite all things. The game perfectly represents that time of digital exploration and evolution, and in a way, is a reminder of a simpler time on the internet.

What an absolutely delightful game, from start to finish. Beat it in around 14 hours (I read a lot), used some hints here and there, mostly on the final stretch. I admit I wasn't around for the 90's and y2k internet, I only got to use some XP, and mostly Vista/7 2010-2012 as part of the "classic" internet. Still, this was a very enjoyable experience, I was very imersed and had tons of fun reading page after page of these fictional people and mourned them be it by my own reporting and flagging of them or otherwise. This has definetely shaped up to be one of my favorite games of all time.

This game is incredibly cool. I feel like I'm the exact target audience, as someone who not only had both a Geocities AND an Angelfire page but also someone who loves to explore random articles and do deep searches. I loved all the things in this game, except for maybe the constant misspellings. We used shorthand, but we weren't all idiots who couldn't spell. That and the idea that someone creating internet webrings would want to get rid of the nerds. Anyway, this game is really amazing in a lot of ways and I absolutely do recommend it for everyone to play. That said, I think I played it at the wrong time because it just wasn't hitting for me the way it was supposed to. I also didn't love the interface, especially in the second half of the game.

Before 2026, I had heard of Hypnospace Outlaw, but never played it. I watched Saltydkdan's highlight reel of his playthrough when it was still fresh, but by the time I had gotten the game I remembered very little about the game.
It was Christmas of 2025 when a friend of mine gifted me the game. We agreed on a gift exchange, I gave them Hi-Fi Rush, they gave me this.
I began to play and I remembered other things, the pizza, granny cream's hot butter ice cream, etc.
As I played, I noticed that these characters were all so human. They seemed like internet 90's caricatures on the surface, sure but a lot of them were real human beings. They had depth beyond the
After the Gumshoe Gooper stuff, all the folks in Goodtime Valley unite under one cause. The way that they all called each other friends meant so much
What really cemented this game as one of my new favorites was finding One Legged Man on Chowder Man's flist. I listened to the song and I immediately felt this sense of comfort, sadness, and closure.
The ending really brought it all together, with Dylan putting to rest the spirits of the mindcrash victims.

This game has some of the most masterful storytelling that I've seen in a long time, and I think that this was the best possible time in my life to play it.

I wasn't present in the pre 2000s internet but I can feel the nostalgia the devs had for that time period and the dread about tech companies encroaching on it. The gameplay is a bit soul crushing at the start because you're essentially a forum moderator, a fate worse than death, and by the end it gets a bit obtuse in what you have to look for. Glad I played it anyway.

Hypnospace outlaw is AWESOME! it's honestly just so fun to explore all of the different pages that the game has to offer. The world building is done extremely well, even though you never actually see any of the characters (other than in pictures), their personalities are absolutely present. The game has some pretty difficult puzzles but they are SO satisfying to solve. It's the kind of game that really has nothing else like it, I reccomend going in knowing nothing.

Si tratta di un simulatore di moderatore di contenuti in un internet di fine anni '90.
Navigando tra numerose pagine degli utenti pieni di scritte colorate e musiche in pieno stile di quegli anni bisognerà insomma andare a trovare infrazioni di copyright, materiale illegale o pericoloso.
Da un lato è sicuramente qualcosa di diverso dal solito, dall'altro è un vero e proprio lavoro invece che un passatempo per chi ci gioca. Inoltre chi non ha vissuto quegli anni penso possa ancora di meno apprezzare lo stile pacchiano invece di avere l'effetto nostalgia.
Non è un gioco brutto di per sé, semplicemente non è proprio il mio genere e qualcosa che posso consigliare.

Truly an incredible game, and I mean it. I first played this game years ago on the Xbox One S through Xbox Game Pass and I never got even close to beating the game, because I always got stuck on the Zane level (to be fair I was a kid lol).

I finally got to playing this game again and it is one of the best games I have ever played, period. Once I got to ending it really hit me like a bus. It was sad, I was left shocked, and I still am, especially because I'm typing this less than an hour after I finished the game.

What's sad about this game also is that the creator(s) is not going to release Dream Settler. I had it on my wishlist and still do, I hope one day that it will be released only if the creator(s) are up for it.

Hypnospace Outlaw is like being trapped inside a 1999 internet time capsule in the best possible way.

You play “internet police” inside a fake web browser, and it nails the vibe so hard it’s almost uncomfortable. Terrible fan pages, sparkly GIF crimes, MIDI music, cursed fonts, drama between teenagers, conspiracy forums, shady ads, and that one guy who thinks he’s a webmaster god. It’s funny, but also weirdly real, because it understands how the old internet felt. Messy, personal, unfiltered, and absolutely unhinged.

The gameplay is basically digital detective work. You’re clicking through pages, hunting clues, following links, digging through posts, and slowly realizing every tiny corner of Hypnospace has lore. It’s not just jokes either. It has moments that are genuinely creepy, sad, and surprisingly thoughtful underneath all the glitter text.

If you miss the era where the internet looked like a carnival and everyone had a personality, Hypnospace Outlaw is pure nostalgia with teeth. You’ll laugh, you’ll cringe, and you’ll probably catch yourself saying “oh my god I used to know someone exactly like this.”

The game is pretty unique, and somewhat intuitive based on its obvious links to the internet. I also found it very charming. However, I didn't really enjoy its gameplay. This is mainly because its main strength, being able to get lost in the multitude of well written pages, is also its weakness. This makes it feel quite sluggish despite the fact its short. Because of this, I lost interest and didn't want to play further.
However, I would still reccomend as I still consider it good at what it was trying to do. The amount of missable content they created for this is frankly insane. I just prefer something with more action.

eu não estive nos anos noventa pra dizer que esse jogo me fez sentir nostalgia ou algo do tipo mas ele me trouxe a sensação e a experiência de estar lá. A história do jogo é muito boa e não deixa muitas pontas soltas (só as necessárias que seriam utilizadas na continuação... R.I.P), a gameplay pode não agradar muitos por ser só "surfar na internet" mas acho que falo por todos que jogaram (ou a maioria) que esse jogo é lindo, tanto na história dele, quanto nos gráficos, profundidade dos personagens e nas suas músicas (que eu queria muito que estivessem no spotify).
pra mim esse jogo é um 10 e me fez muito bem passar algumas horas nele ksksks
