Went home to relax ended up living in someone else’s memory and now I owe it rent.
Played it at night. The darkness wasn’t the scary part, the pacing was.
Home sets up a great atmosphere, then sprints to the finish line like it’s late for work. I kept waiting for the big twist, the big scare, the big something, but the game just patted me on the shoulder and said “We’re done here.” Cool concept, but it feels more like a demo for a bigger idea that never arrived.

I think the price is fair considering it seems like a new developer made it and it's short for a game. It takes 1, 2 hours, tops.
It's very simple for a game, and doesn't have much for replayability, but for a 1 time experience, its simple and nothing fancy, but its okay for a single playthrough. Personally I like supporting indie developers. Its not the worst game ever, so its up to you if you want to try it or not. Just don't go expecting some deep talent system or many choice options. It's interesting how the narrative perception changes after you view scenes and then return with new information. I imagine some descriptions are missable depending on what you see first. The game changes your player character's perspective (and influences your own) based on how you react to the world via the yes/no decisions.

This was a fun format for a mystery game, but I didn't like that I couldn't control the volume. It was significantly louder than any other application on my PC. Especially some of the music that pulses (in the house, for example) is really loud and started to make my brain feel fuzzy.
I also think that some of the choices felt pretty forced, in that I had to pick the "yes" option to progress at all, except for the choices that seemed the most important near the ending. Without trying to spoil things, I'm not exactly sure why the ending was presented with those particular choices.
The art in the game is fun, and I liked the little messages written on the walls and stuff. Nice, short game, but also it's good to complete in one sitting because you cannot save.
It's a more decent experince than what the reviews led onto...

Eerie lil game, yes I say lil because it only takes about 30min - 1 hr to finish. For all the achievements you need to finish the game at least three times. Doable.

Home is a spooky, bite-sized horror experience that I enjoyed. It didn't overstay its welcome and did what it wanted to do well. I play on replaying it to get different outcomes. I do wish it had some kind of chapter select or path tree where you could see what choices you've made and what ones you haven't, since you move so slow and have to re-do a lot of the same things (as others have pointed out). Still, it's worth a play if you enjoy anything creepy!
Decent little walking sim horror game with minimal jump scares. Somewhat of a "Choose your own adventure" story with some branching narrative options. Couldn't bring myself to play it 2 more times for the completion, but worth a playthrough. 5/10

An interesting murder mystery game. Mostly a 2D walking sim and the ending is a bit anti-climatic, but piecing together the story and solving the mystery is fun. The game has a creepy atmosphere, but the only "horror" aspect is loud, random noises that were more annoying than scary. I enjoyed the game but would only recommend it if you're open to weird, niche titles.

Man kann ganz gut herausfinden, was mit der Ehefrau und dem Kumpel passiert ist. Jedoch gibt es im großen Ganzen einige Dinge, die trotzdem extrem unklar sind. Das wird viele Spieler bestimmt unbefriedigt zurücklassen.
Der erste Spieldurchlauf macht anfangs noch etwas Spaß (wenn man Bock auf einen Laufsimulator mit viel Lesen hat). Doch zum Ende hin und bei den anderen vier Spieldurchläufen hatte ich keinen Spaß mehr. Wenn man alle Errungenschaften erspielen möchte wird das Spiel langatmig und öde. Die anderen Enden hätten nicht existieren müssen, denn es hätte an der Geschichte nichts geändert.
Es ist letzten Endes ein langsames, unklares und langweiliges Spiel.

I think this game is a product of the times. If I played this in 2012 I may have enjoyed it more, but in 2025 it's clunky, confusing and slow. The narrative never answers it's own questions leading to an unsatisfying ending. Maybe if you 100% it will answer all the questions it poses, but when every play through takes 1.5 hours of slow movement, crawling text, and needing to investigate every item?
Not worth the money or playtime. If you're really interested, watch a play through.

I was going back and forth on whether this was good enough to recommend, and then I made the mistake of looking up interviews with the creator, and that made the choice a lot easier.
For the first 95% of the game, I actually enjoyed the experience a lot. The visual style works well, the setup is interesting, and there's a good atmosphere to it. The problem is that during that 95%, the game basically plays out like a detective/exploration game, with your character observing various clues and working out the details of what's happened in the different places he explores. A lot of what keeps you playing is the excitement that you're getting closer to figuring out the plot of what happened before your character woke up at the start of the game...
...and then you get to the end, the game just kind of shrugs its shoulders, calls whatever explanation you came up with good enough, and rolls the credits. And it's not like there's an actual correct solution if you find all the clues. You can even just go against your instincts and say the exact opposite of what you think happened, and the game just accepts the answer as canon. In the end, you're not so much Sherlock Holmes as you are the lazy police officer who jumped to conclusions the second they saw a body and didn't feel like investigating their hunch any further. We all hate that guy when we read a good mystery...it really sucks to find yourself actually playing as him in the final moments of the game.
Reading about the creator's intentions, it seems like he thinks this is some bold new approach that's subverting traditional narrative structures, but I'd argue this is a case where no one's done this before because they realized it's simply a bad way to tell a story (or lack thereof). It makes the game feel aimless...unfinished...even hostile to the player in a way. Like why should the creator have to figure out a plot when the player could just use a little more imagination to write one themselves? I think we can take this one step further, and if you're considering buying this, just watch the trailer and imagine you played a good game that looked like that. You won't miss much story-wise...
I hate to give an indie game a negative review but the price matches the quality so I won't. its a competent atmospheric narrative. Frankly, Home chooses not to execute on it's narrative ideas in favor of an ending that's open to interpretation but is too vague to be satisfying and too boring to entice me into the multiple playthroughs required for all the information, which is still vague from what i've read online. without that, the environments are still great, they're very eerie to move through. I hope the developer was able to use this project as a stepping stone to execute on some of these ideas, but they're a little half baked here

Got to a point where I could not longer make progress, boring as hell as well.
Terrible writing, just terrible, the horror comes from cheap jumpscares, the gameplay mechanics are somehow overused or bad implemented.
The only way of fixing this game is rewriting all the dialog, and that just would make it an acceptable game.
[i]Home[/i] was on a list of games I had already played (in this case about a decade ago) that added achievements some time after I had already beaten them. Not wanting to disappoint the completionist in me by letting a game I'd already technically 100%'d sit there taunting me with by adding a 0% to my completion average, I finally decided to earn them.
And it did not take long for me to remember why I had put that task off.
This game does one thing extremely well: waste your time. The protagonist has a limp, so he walks slowly, and I'm pretty sure certain actions can make him even slower. When you enter a different room via stairs, a ladder or a door, not only is there an unskippable three-second cutscene, but your flashlight takes an additional two seconds to light up properly for whatever reason, meaning you have to wait five seconds unless you know which direction you're going next. On top of [i]that[/i] if you enter a door that has stairs, it does the animation for both, making that a total of eight seconds waiting to really be able to do anything in the next room.
Any time a text box opens up, a slow unskippable narration that you can't speed up plays. These appear when you are about to leave an area and can't return (good), whenever you are going to pick up an item (fine), or whenever you are going to interact with something (understandable), which includes if you need to interact with an item multiple times (bad). On top of all that, true to the Adventure genre, you will do a lot of walking back and forth trying to find what you need to do when and where, sometimes in a maze.
To get every achievement, you have to go through the game three times to get the three endings that don't really make any difference other than what the protagonist does after learning the plot... for lack of a better term. You see, what you do through the game determines a few things the protagonist reflects on at the end, but you get to say yes or no to a vague conclusion he reaches, so nothing happens for sure. He goes over every detail he learns in each area as well as every conclusion you help him reach after you decide which ending to do in the same slow unskippable text format, thus punishing you for exploring. Vague plots are fine, and I don't need my hand held for them when they're like that, but it just doesn't work in this case.
Since I mentioned achievements, there's one that straight-up lies in the description by claiming you have to go through the game without picking up any items, but there are some that you absolutely need to pick up to continue, so if you don't already know that... see where I'm going with this?
Look, I hate downvoting cheap indie games, but as someone who ended up dragging himself through this thing six flippin' times, I just have to hit that big thumb down.

- The story is frustrating, like having an unreliable narrator is a cool concept, but not to the point that even after getting each ending and investigating all items all i know is
[spoiler] "Okay, so he probably killed his wife and friend, maybe. And maybe was also part of like, a murder club? I don't even know - it also doesn't even matter"[/spoiler]
- Like sometimes its cool, where if you find a receipt for two train tickets in one spot, you find two tickets later, but without that receipt, you only find one, which sorta makes the game feel like a dream rather than real events
- More than anything though it feels bad to experience
- The slow movement speed and slow long text also create frustration on multiple runs, and you could argue that friction if part of the point, but it felt bad to experience in a normal bad way and not a meaningful bad way

A short, tedious, mystery without a resolution. The constant, short, repeating ambient droning is still the worst part of the experience.
Most of the game you just read descriptions and watch transition cutscenes. You can only speed up a text by holding "right". Text speed is agonizingly slow and there's no options to change it or show whole thing instantly.
In my opinion typewriter text effect should be used only to emulate dramatic pauses or specific character's spech patterns in dialogues. This game decided to use it for descriptions which is infuriating.
While it's a short game, there are a variety of ways to finish the 'story', and decisions you make throughout the game influence these endings. I finished my first play through in less than an hour on my Steam Deck, and I was extremely impressed with the game, the feel and the story.
If you enjoy a quick exploration/horror, with some player decision influencing the end result, this is worth a few bucks.

You have to unfold a mystery by finding and interacting with various events and objects.
There is no voiceover. Just lots of texts. It felt somewhat visual-novel-type.
It didn't feel like a horror game. At times, some sudden sounds come up, and the game tries to give an eerie feeling.
There is not much music in the game.
The story is the main part of the game. But I didn’t like it. It’s quite vague and up for interpretations. The writing is not that good.
It has three endings. The first run took me 1.5 hours. To get missed achievements and other endings, you may need to play it multiple times. You can speedrun through the game to get those. The guide section will help you save some time.
I’ve played a game with a gamepad without any issues.
You may try it out if somehow it ended up in your library (due to some past bundles). Otherwise, it's not recommended to buy it specifically.
Overall, my experience with the game was underwhelming.

I regret 100% completing this game.
At first, the game seemed like a good little horror game, but once you complete your first playthrough, there is no point in returning, as all the endings don't explain anything, different playthroughs have little to no difference, the gameplay is boring once you realize that there is no danger, and there is little to no story at all.
If you are really interested in this type of game just buy Lone Survivor / Super Lone Survivor instead as it is a real horror game and it is not just a walking simulator.

Home is frustratingly slow and does not match the pace shown in the trailer. Much of the playtime is spent watching short cut scenes of climbing up or down a ladder or stairs, or opening a door. The story is unimaginative with fairly predictable options, and the "horror" aspect is limited to fake pixel blood and text, you won't find any real frights in the game. I played it through to one ending hoping for a twist in the plot or an exciting setting, but that never happened. Don't waste your time with this game, I wish I hadn't.
Loved this game. Its very short. If you have a night alone and want a chill but Spookie game go play this! its Worth it :)

I will say this: the game is quite interesting. I followed my friends' advice and played it with the lights off, immersed in the atmosphere. It's not very scary, but a number of tense moments can be “caught”. Soundtrack? For me, it created a pleasant atmosphere. A modest side scroll thriller game that executes everything decently. The campaign is brief. You finish a blind run in just one sitting. The writing is, again, modest yet engaging. It features replayability reflected on your choices and rooms explored. Once you know the locations you can pretty much finish a new run in less than 1 hour. Given the short length of the experience, even with additional runs to uncover new endings, I recommend getting it during a sale. Apart from that, the concept is good and reveals the effort of a single developer.
Home é um jogo de terror lançado em 2012, no início do boom dos jogos independentes. Ele afirma ser uma experiência de terror única por ser um jogo no qual você decide as respostas para o mistério, se tratando de uma experiência subjetiva, e isso ele realmente executa: dependendo das coisas que você descobrir ou das escolhas que você fizer, o personagem pode encontrar e escolher coisas diferentes. O jogo te dá muitas informações diferentes e, enquanto parte delas é uma história previsível que já vimos inúmeras vezes ao longo dos anos, outras não se encaixam facilmente na narrativa e tornam a escolha de como juntar todas as peças da história e interpretar os fatos realmente algo subjetivo.
Mas o jogo não é perfeito. Eu joguei ele três vezes para platinar e ver os finais diferentes - e é certamente algo que eu recomendo, seja para pegar mais informações, rever as coisas sob uma nova perspectiva ou mesmo para fazer escolhas diferentes - porém a lentidão do jogo pode tornar esse processo um pouco maçante. Ainda assim recomendo Home, especialmente para os que querem uma experiência curta e experimental de terror mais subjetiva, que não se incomoda em deixar o jogador juntar todas as peças por si só. Home is a badly made and badly written 2D sidescrolling retro pixel "adventure" game with a lame and poorly thought out, contrived feeling horror theme. Truly, the only horror here is that someone thought it would really be okay to charge $5 for GameMaker Studio pixelcrap on Steam. And yet here we are. Chilling, isn't it?
This is a pretty lame effort, rejected by the shovelware bins, that only exists on Steam for card idlers. Trying to actually play this is a disappointing and pointless experience.
The game doesn't have any save game features, despite that being a basic standard for all games of this time. The developer might defend this as an attempt to make the game seem more "difficult" without them having to balance the game or do their job properly with engaging and challenging level design, but it's just as likely they simply couldn't work out how to make a save game feature work. Either way, that's a defect that adds another reason for gamers to avoid this game.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
Arrogantly, the developers demand you should find a way to plug headphones into your gaming PC to experience the craptastic audio they shovelled into this terrible game. I run a 9.2 surround sound system for my gaming rig, I'm not interested in downgrading just because the developers demand I experience the game in a compromised manner. Developers must never dictate to gamers how a game should be consumed, it's their JOB to ensure a game is experienced well on any gaming rig. Failure to do this is a failure on their part, and not the gamers.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. Home has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for disarming a mousetrap, this happens very early, trivial to achieve, but less than 9 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, and isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 9 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother engaging with this game? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game.
That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with little merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
Home has the pathetically optimistic price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. This is also competing with over 9,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
Первая половина вполне понравилась: ты главным героем исследуешь местность и ничего не ясно, и через всевозможные находки которыми может быть всё что угодно, от висящих на стенах плакатов с предметами в тумбочках и вещей с лежащих трупов, узнаёшь по крупицам и открываешь информацию как о герое, так и о происшедшем. Поначалу не знаешь, а будут ли враги в игре и придётся ли с кем сражаться, ведь будут подобраны и пистолет и нож во время игры. Но дойдя до конца так и не встретишь никого и главный герой будет единственным персонажем в игре.
На полный обшмон всех закоулков и подбирание всего и вся ушло полтора часа игры. Играл без руководства и лишь в конце посмотрел код от сейфа, так как в самой игре подсказки к шифру найти нельзя, автор игры такой себе Кодзима гений, который в своё время код для MGS писал на задней обложке CDbox-а, ну и тут BancyCo так же решил - "чем он хуже!?". Локации хоть и сделаны многоуровневыми, но ты их структуру мысленно вполне понимаешь и заблудиться в игре попросту невозможно или "пойти не туда" - путь к финалу один единственный, все ответвления-проходы тупиковы, а когда будешь проходить очередную дверь и если вернуться уже через неё будет нельзя, тебе услужливо об этом сообщат, говоря этим, что если ты какую то комнату или местность не обследовал сделай это пока есть возможность.
Звуковое наполнение вполне зашло, оно погружающее в игру и всё было с ним хорошо, пока не дошёл до последнего дома. И в нём "музыка" - зацикленная короткая "жесть". А в этом доме пришлось с полчаса пролазить и под завершение игры, голова уже болела от этих звуков - ужасный аудиодизайн. Из-за этого не захотел ещё два раза проходить игру на другие концовки (всего их три), что бы не слушать эти омерзительные звуки. Вторым минусом игры является очень медленное "печатание сообщений" через которое подаётся информация о мире и история. Даже медленно читая на английском (ведь он не родной язык), с медленным вчитыванием сути "напечатанного", ты всё равно читаешь быстрее чем появляются буквы - это раздражает, хочется нажатием кнопки увидеть появление всего текста сразу или скипануть его вовсе если не хочется читать. Но нет, изволь минут пятнадцать из 70-90 минут на игру потратить на "чтение текста", - потому что, его нельзя пропустить или ускорить, и Оооченьь долго будет длиться чтение эпилога по завершении - буквально минуты. Третьим минусом является излишне крупная пикселизация. Я не противник пиксельных игр, но тут размер пикселей в полноэкранном режиме просто огромный (особенно это заметно во анимированных вставках и переходах по локациям0, а у меня не 4к разрешение, а если же альтабнуть то родное окошко без его растягивания на весь экран - оно очень маленькое.

Und wenn man dann endlich durch ist: Darf man alles was man gemacht hat nochmal nach lesen. - In einem Abspann. Blöd nur, dass man danach genau NICHTS weiß. Man steht mit unzähligen Fragezeichen über dem Kopf da und fragt sich: "Warum hab ich dafür jetzt nochmal Zeit verschwendet?!"
Um das Spiel zusammenzufassen: Denkt euch einen Krimi oder Thriller, lest Dreiviertel des Buches und stellt dann fest, dass die restlichen Seiten fehlen. - Blöd sowas.

This game has the same problem like "Her Story", the ending is left purposely ambiguous. There is no definite truth to how the game ends. This is not done to let your imagination work. It is done, so you can go online, argue with other people what the truth is and make free advertisement for the game.
This is a trash practice and I have no idea why people keep making games like this.
10/10 would pay 4.99 for this 100x over
Took me about a decade to beat, and it was a nice spooky experience. The audio for about half the game was absolutely awful, though. Kind of like a twisted choose your own adventure. Might even try to 100% this sucker one day.

Home is a short pixel horror adventure game about piecing together your lost memories and solving a mystery. It mostly involves a lot of walking and reading so it borderlines as a walking simulator.
Home does a great job in setting up its atmosphere, having a creepy vibe that goes well with the mystery you're suddenly thrust into.
Achievements aren't difficult to obtain but will likely require at least 3 playthroughs to perfect.

The story is left quite vague as it is never truly revealed to you of the events that had transpired. As you explore and discover more evidence and secrets you will reveal small snippets of things that happened, although in the end you can choose what to do and what you wish to believe. The more you take the time to explore and find things the more a coherent sequence of events will reveal itself to you. Even after finding everything it is still unclear if it is truly what happened though.
Finding more information and picking up items along the way also opens up different decisions and comments.

While this game is far from perfect, I have a lot of respect for what the developer achieved here with relatively simple means. Most of my issues I've had with the subpar sound design in this game, yet it never got so bad to keep me from playing. The game is rather slowly paced and its story is cryptic at times, yet it does deliver an engaging and creepy experience for one, or - should you go for more clues - more evenings.
Jogo rápido, relativamente fácil de jogar mais de uma vez (exceto pela impossibilidade de acelerar os diálogos) e acaba sendo necessário jogar mais de uma vez para poder explorar tudo.
Pontos positivos: narrativa envolvente, jogo rápido e de (relativa) fácil rejogabilidade, fácil memorizar os locais.
Pontos negativos: o modo "você decide" deixa algumas pontas soltas, já que o final depende do que você conseguir desbloquear naquela gameplay. Acaba sendo necessário jogar várias vezes para ver os outros finais, o que pode ser cansativo, mesmo sendo um jogo rápido. Além disso, a falta de uma solução real para os mistérios deixa uma sensação de incompletude.

An amazing short interactive story about a man with no memory of the night before, slowly uncovering the horrific events that transpired. The atmosphere is tense and immersive, and the pacing is just right, revealing new layers of the narrative as you piece things together. There’s plenty of hidden details and secrets for those who love to explore thoroughly, making it especially rewarding on repeat playthroughs. If you enjoy slow-burn psychological horror with a focus on environmental storytelling, this is a must-play.

A lesson in bad writing. Nothing is explained, it's a vague and miserable story with a vague and miserable protagonist that ends vaguely or miserably with no real resolution.
Annoyingly written in the past tense so that every action you take is described like "Did I really do X?; Yes; No."
The story is apparent after the first five minutes and you just wait for your character to figure out what you already know, and I guess depending on the ending he never even does figure it out.

An ok at best short game where you try to remember what happened and find where is your wife. It is not scary in any way but it kept my interest all the way through. Sadly the story doesn't really explain itself at the end of either of the 3 endings and it just kinda keeps you guessing what actually happened.

(I played the game on PS4) Genuinely fantastic. It's best to go into this game completely blind, so I suggest not reading anything about it, including this review. All I'll suggest is that you play the game multiple times.
The way I'd describe Home is "The ominous unravelling of a dark mystery". The more it shows you the more frightening it becomes. If you want a game that will stick with you long after you've finished it, one that gives the darkest food for thought, this game is for you. Even after numerous playthroughs I'm not completely certain of what happened, and I believe that's intended. Certain aspects of the story are just unknowable, like a shadowy corner of a basement, you don't know what could be lurking there, but it can't be good.
The game is brilliant at setting a mood. Giving you just the right pieces of the puzzle at just the right moments to make it feel genuinely ominous, and giving you great "a-ha!" moments. But instead of "a-ha!" It's "Oh god..."
I have nothing but positive things to say about it. The game is so finely tuned and every moment feels so heavily considered. The only genuinely bad thing I can say about it is that it has a couple odd moments of sound design, like that cat meow sound effect at the beginning that's way too loud. But those moments are few and far between, this game is brilliant. Honestly might be one of my favourite games, I've never been able to forget about it, it just sticks with me.
Short, but sweet. If you fear ambiguity then this horror game will really scare you.

It is a really good mini adventure game, witch gaslights you to believe
that there is someone creeping in the dark.
I thought this was a retro plat-former when I saw it in my Steam library...atlas that was not the case. It's basically a 2D version of those walking simulator's that are constantly popping up with the addition of some minor puzzles throw in. The game is short, you can complete the game in about 90 minutes, the achievements are easy; a few play through's of the game will do it...and you can't skip the text which is annoying. One to pass on I think.

If you enjoy walking simulators and don't mind 2D ones or pixel graphics, you should pick this up. I'd probably wait for a sale, but even at full price, you shouldn't feel as though you overpaid.

There is ONE point that controller users will need a keyboard (or Steam Deck users will need the virtual keyboard) and that ONE spot keeps this game as partial instead of full controller support.

I love how you increased the price of an 11 years old game just because steam suggested new higher prices. As a Polish person i love to pay 2nd most in the world, had no idea Poland is such an economic powerhouse!
