It's a Doom-like game with new graphics, but it doesn't offer any new experiences. You shoot, kill, and that's it. There was even only one boss. For those who like to complete all the achievements, this game doesn't let you complete it on the first difficulty level. You have to replay the game on the hardest difficulty, and it only unlocks after completing a different difficulty level. You also have to clear every level to get all the kills and items. Overall, I was disappointed with the game.
My first review on Steam was for a gamemode for Hellbound, and I thought it really worked out fine for an Arena Shooter.
Fast forward almost 8 years and 600 games later, and yea, this should have stayed as an Arena shooter.
Don't get me wrong, this is a decent shooter, and it does it all "fine." There is nothing here that is better than average. Weapons? Average feeling, the only good thing is the alt for the shotgun. Also, there are only 5, and the last one shows up at the last 2 levels. Enemy variety? Eeeh... not really. Soundtrack? Decent metal, but it's not well paced, empty spaces without a single enemy and the most ripped metal riff in the background make you numb.
Technical aspects are fine, with decent graphics and good-looking scenarios, and it runs pretty damn well, with not a single FPS drop in the experience. The gore is also pretty underwhelming, it's either sleeping or completely gibbed. Movement is pretty good, slick, fast, allows you to use that shotgun for real.
The only part where I genuinely had fun was the nod to Serious Sam in one of the levels, it was great to see the tribute to one of the greats.
Hellbound is the definition of average. I would give it a mixed review if I could, it took me only 2 hours to beat the whole thing in "Old School" difficulty, and somehow I got bored on some parts. It is decent, it has potential. If we ever get a Hellbound 2, there is a chance we may get something truly special, but that was not it.
A very short Boomer Shooter that does nothing new, with a campaign length similar to that of a 90s shareware episode, complete with only 5 weapons (not counting the fists, which become obsolete as soon as you find a club). Still, it's decent fun while it lasts and has attractive graphics and plenty of gibs, and there's a Survivor Mode with several different arenas for those who are into that kind of thing. Given the length though, I would only recommend it on a very steep discount, or if you can get it in a bundle like I did.
Step 1: Go to Discussions page and find the fix someone posted about the guns just not firing when you click because the dev can't be bothered fixing such a huge issue.
Gameplay is fun enough, but gets dry VERY fast. Not much in terms of weapon or enemy variety.
Plays more like an early access game than a full release. Would recommend picking this up if it's on sale for next to nothing. Otherwise, not worth it at full price.
Awesome, lots of fun, mindless shooting, I love it, bit of puzzles nothing too complicated . Awesome weapons, some minor bugs and glitches when firing a gun and loading a save game

To sum it up: Serios Sam goes to hell.
- Shooting is good.
- Movement is bad.
- Plattforming is really bad.
- Visual design is metal AF, but visual clarity suffers for it.
- Music is good, but extremely repetitive. I think it's just one soundtrack for about three hours of gameplay.
- Human enemies are good.
- Demon enemies are bad. From the precision arching fireball throws to the highly damaging homing launch attacks.
Can only reccomend to hardcore boomer shooter fans. Everyone else should steer clear.

This game didn't suck. It looks and sounds good and even plays pretty decent, but it doesn't really stand out from the legions of other boomer shooter type games out there.
I'd say try it, but maybe wait until it's on sale.
Первые 15 минут показалось, что спустя 30 лет я разучился играть в Дум 2 и Квейк. Даже озадачился слегка, я такой старый, уже не целкий и тремор мешает? Но через 15 минут уже разыгрался, вспомнил молодость, и получил тонну удовольствия. Отличный забег без лишней шелухи. Только бах-бах и поиск секреток.

This is a below average game.
Hellbound adheres to an old school style of FPS, but does so with an unsatifying level of difficulty. Games like DOOM, Duke Nukem 3D and Blood could be difficult at times, but were still fun and didn't feel like abusing quick save/quick load was the only option to progress. The save system in Hellbound is buggy, doesn't always load the file you expect, and won't allow deletion of old saves. Mapping is okay, and there are moments of fun to be had, with plenty of secrets to be found in each map.
For the asking price, there seems to be too little of everything: only 8 levels. 5 weapons and a limited variety of enemy types. The so-called heavy metal tracks are short segments that loop constantly. Dusk, Ion Fury or Amid Evil are better options, avoid this one.
Es un buen juego fps, estilo boomer shooter. El juego es limitado en contenido y le falta pulir, por lo que no lo recomiendo al precio habitual, como mucho a un tercio de el. Si te van los juegos rollo Doom este juego puede darte una buena tarde, aunque tampoco es que dure mucho.

Got it basically "for free" via a humble bundle buying other stuff I wanted. It's worth it if you can get it for ~5 EUR or less (during a sale or such) which I did, but, it's essentially a 2h game, not that much content, replayability isn't that great, and it isn't super polished (places you can skyrim horse up, bugs where I got softlocked in elevators, etc). Considering all that, I wouldn't really recommend it. For basically the same price you can get the DOOM classic bundle and just replay Doom 1 and 2 (and 3 and 64 if you're into that).
For the price tag, I would've expected a campaign that was at least 4 times as long, with different "biomes" and not just the same lava/cavern/ruins tileset and few enemies.
Unlike other reviews I didn't mind the controls/gameplay loop, that bit was mostly fine. Music was good, but did get a bit repetitive. The VA was ok, the voice was good but the voice lines tilted more towards cringe as opposed to cool. The story is non-existent, which, for these types of games I'd say is a net 0 (neither positive or negative).

Es una lastima, la premisa de juego retro, gore, metal y encima hecho por una desarrolladora argentina se ve completamente opacado por muy MUY serios problemas...
Para empezar, probe este juego en diferentes PCs, tanto de baja, media y alta gama, en todas corria desastroso el rendimiento, tirones y bajones de fps, y es muy frustrante, el propio juego incluso tiene configuracion de graficos para PCs "patata" literalmente, y aun asi va fatal de rendimiento.
Segundo, es demasiado pesado para el escaso contenido que ofrece, ya que solo dura 2 horas, 3 si haces la historia con contenido extra y 6 si sos completista, si no tenes buen internet es realmente frustrante estar esperando durante horas y horas por un juego que despues se cae a los pedazos en rendimiento por mas PC que tengas, para eso es mejor instalar por horas el Doom de 2016 que ese esta muchisimo mejor optimisado para PCs de bajos recursos y ofrece muchisimas mas horas y contenido, ahi si sentis que la espera valio completamente la pena, o incluso hay boomers shooters mas ligeros y que le pasan la escoba a Hellbound.
Para terminar esto no es negativo, es mas punto de vista personal, el juego de base cuesta 8 dolares en argentina ( mas o menos 15k de pesos argentinos ), 15 dolares para otros paises, no esta mal para lo pobre que es, pero si me parece un ultra robo los 15 dolares para el exterior, la verdad no lo recomiendo en ambos casos, por 8 o 15 dolares en oferta se pueden comprar juegos infinitamente mejores, hasta mejores boomer shooters con mucho mas cariño y mejor optimizados, mas tradicionales en graficos o mas vistosos y muchisimo mas ligeros, Project Warlock, Forgive Me Father, la saga Doom, la saga Quake, Deadlink, podria nombrar muchisimos mas que le pasan la escoba a Hellbound, haganse un favor, hagan valer su dinero y tiempo y compren un mejor titulo que este, no se dejen engañar por las reseñas extremadamente positivas.
This dumb idiot grunts for everything. Can't tell if I'm taking damage from an enemy I missed or just picked up health or I just jumped or I tried to open a door lol. The gun doesn't always fire when I click the mouse. Controller felt so terrible which is the only reason I'm using the mouse. I'll probably finish it but only because its so short.
Edit: I finished it. Since on controller it fired every time I would pull the trigger I had to finish with a controller. It still felt terrible the whole time though. This game is like Doom if it sucked. Also it's not difficult, despite the cringey warning in game. The only reason it is difficult at all is because it sucks. As in, I miss shots because it feels so bad to aim. Speaking of which, aiming down sights on a controller is unusable because the sensitivity is the same as hip firing, which means way too sensitive. It was easier to hip fire from a mile away than try to scope in.
This game is so fun! Its short but so much fun to play! Its a combination of Serious Sam and Doom and i just love it so much! Great 90s monstershooter!

The screenshot looked awesome and I was excited for this "90s shooter", but despite the decent graphics, the game played like ♥♥♥♥, and I never felt in control of the character, it was so annoying to be killed when the gun refuses to take my clicks and didn’t fire. I found it really hard too and saved almost after ever kill, painstakingly I saw it through to the end, which was rewarding to finish, but I would not recommend this game even when discounted its a pretty poor deal.

Just a fun game! I would say if you like retro style fps games it is probably worth getting even at full price. if you can get to the 'head crusher' item I would say you are doing well.

Yes, it has hints for Quake, Serious Sam, Doom and so on. So you COULD say its "'90s style First Person Shooter"-"inspired" ....[b]If you did not live in that time[/b].
One big thing was usual for games in the 90s: [b]MAPS[/b]!
This had a reason: The levels were big and mazy and were stuffed with secrets and mechanics. You needed maps for not getting lost.
Hellbound doesn't even need maps. The playing area is tiny compared to the old games.
And another thing that is [b]obvious[/b] for Hellbound is NOT a good old 90s style game...
How many of the old shooters do you know that had useless and misleading [b]invisible walls[/b]? I can't remember even one (of the big mainstream games).
As usual in modern times, Hellbound is full of invisible walls, that does NOT prevent you from dying, but from exploring. I dunno how often I have to repeat: [b]It is the MOST STUPID Idea to build an exploring-shooter and force people to die BECAUSE they try to explore[/b]!
Alltogether I would still vote Hellbound up / recommend it, because it plays nice and is fun. But since its selling as "A '90s FPS" I will NOT RECOMMEND it. Because it simply is [b]NOT[/b] a '90s FPS!

A funny 'kill everything what moves' fast pace shooter, it has the flair from the old and basic simple FPS games, but is nicely polished to nowadays graphics. The architecture is made from some cool mind, space view related and nice to go along, music is pure heavy metal stuff aka Quake and similar, the protagonist talks similar to Duke Nukem and the gameplay comes close to Serious Sam. All in all some fancy hours, worth replaying for finding all the well hidden secrets so as for achievement hunters.
Care for the extreme fast Doom like demons after having paced a serious diet, keep on the move and care for your back, the ambush can be from anywhere. Stated issues with the fire button, I did not encounter, apparently this was fixed yet. Difficulty is serious, more than old school equivalents.

The game is alright. It has a lot of charm and you can tell the devs really put some love into this one but there's a huge host of issues that make it hard to reccomend. The main one being the fire button, ya know, the shooting part of a first person shooter? It's bugged. No matter what PC i've used to play this game, i'll frequently pull the trigger and nothing will happen. It's not just a one off either, it's every combat encounter. I even got an achivement titled "The game was glitching, i swear" by dying to the weakest enemy. The game was actually glitching and I couldnt shoot him so he beat me to death. gg game.
The level designs can get fairly confusing, the final boss is just a big bullet sponge, and gun sounds occasionally don't work. The primary rifle feels like a peashooter but it fires as fast as you can click so it's fairly fun to melt guys with it but i imagine that's an oversight. There's exactly 6 enemy types. 4 of which are just "demon guy but holding a different gun" and 2 get introduced in the seconed to last level.
The voice acting for the protag was charming, they definitely leaned too hard into the badass 90s cool guy too hard and says ♥♥♥♥ every sentence but I got a kick out of the occasional quips. I even chuckled for one.
It's a decent game if you get it cheap but even $15 is a bit much for an fps where you shoot the same guys for a couple hours with guns that fire when they feel like it.
Oh the campaign ends with sequel bait and it never got one so even finishing the game is a let down.
Solid 3/10 as much as I hate leaving negative reviews.

What can I say — this is a classic FPS shooter: no fluff, no puzzles, just pure linear action.
The only real downside is that it’s quite short — around two hours of gameplay, and if you sit down for a night you’ll finish it in one go.

Игра очень понравилась! Напомнила мне юные годы — сразу вспоминается Quake. Та же динамика, бешеный темп, мясо и драйв.
Стрельба ощущается мощно, монстры разлетаются во все стороны, музыка подгоняет вперёд — всё как раньше!
Конечно, есть один минус — игра короткая. Можно пройти буквально за два вечера. Но зато эти два вечера пролетают на одном дыхании.

A really fun boomer shooter, even if it was a tad bit short.
Had a ton of fun with this, and as someone who adores witty and corny one liners, this one was also kinda funny every now and then.
The only issue I had was during the last bossfight, for some reason it was the most unoptimized part of the game.
The gameplay loop can also get a tad bit dull, since after you've killed all the demons you kinda just wander around awkwardly looking for the button to unlock the next area.
Get the game on sale if you want a fun 2 or so hours of blowing brains out. Definitely not worth full price.

Feels like doom clone on a Quake 3 engine
It was very enjoyable until a game-breaking bug at the end of Level 3 spoiled things: the 'interaction' button ('E') no longer worked on the final sundial-type button even though it worked elsewhere, which meant that the barrier covering the end of the level would not open up. Checked a walk-through. Hadn't missed anything. Had to down vote because of this. Other than that, good fun.

Es bastante mediocre este Hellbound. Es como el hermano de poco presupuesto de Doom. Y además si en vez de manejar al Doomguy manejaras a un caballo, porque tiene los sonidos de pasos más molestos que haya escuchado. La música es metalera toooodo el tiempo. Es siempre lo mismo. A veces te carga la partida en otro punto, se desconfigura el idioma, la IA si pasas la lava te deja de disparar, etc.
A luca está bien.

Great homage to 90's shooters and a lot of fun. Wish there was a sequel or continuation of the series.
Not that bad to be honest.
Fast pace movement and overall look kinda reminded me of Quake Champions. Circle strafing around enemies is the best defense for every enemy type.
There are 6 weapon types. Decent enough campaign with not too long maps. Just find required keys and get to the exit while killing demons along the way.
It's not exactly a boomer shooter, but it's an ok fps. Get it on a deep discount and you will have some fun for 4-6 hours. Just don't forget to do a manual save and/or quick save every now and then, don't rely on autosave checkpoints too much.
I liked the survival arena mode (but not the downtime between the waves).
I love fps games and boomer shooters. With that said i can't see a reason to play this any longer than the 15 minutes i did. I beat the first level, closed the game, and uninstalled it. You move comically fast and not in the normal fun boomer shooter kind of way. The weapons i got to play around with lacked any rewarding impact or punch. The level was extremely linear and boring. It's a nice attempt but a poor result.

Poor attempt at paying homage to old classics, very easy to get caught in a deathloop due to autosave locations and very easy to accidentally restart a level on death. Voice lines are incredibly insufferable and a genuine pain to listen to.
It's worth picking upon sale or in a bundle deal. A decent shooter and a good way to pass a couple of hours.
Hellbound is a passable amalgamation of classic shooters, predominantly Doom, Quake and Serious Sam. It unfortunately has absolutely zero identity of its own and brings nothing new to the table, as every single aspect of the game feels like a fan recreation of said FPS titles. It's also very short and has some performance issues, especially during the final boss fight.
That being said, I still had fun with it; while the enemy AI doesn't exactly pose the advertised challenge, it still offers entertaining fast-paced run-and-gun gameplay. Recommended on sale for fans of the genre looking for a quick snack.
No esta mal, es un shoother mas bien clásico, que es resultón y disfrutable. 4 o 5 horas de duración. Pillar en rebaja. Los hay mejores y peores. No esta en ningún extremo TERMINADO y RECOMENDADO.
It's okay. Movement is alright and the guns are moderately punchy. But with so many other great alternatives just "okay" isn't good enough. It's short, the weapons are super generic, the visual style is meh, and the enemies are unremarkable.
And despite being so short, I managed to get lost in the levels over and over again. I feel like half my time was just trying to figure out where to go next.
If you can get it for a dollar or two then there are worse ways to spend a couple hours, but certainly not at the asking price.

It plays a little bit like the original Doom/Quake with somewhat Doom (2016) visuals (though no where near as good looking).
It isn't great but it isn't terrible. My recommendation would be:
Don't buy it. You have better things to play and revisiting many of the games that inspired Hellbound would be more worthy of your time.
However, if you already have Hellbound from a bundle (like me), then you might as well give it a go. The campaign took me 4+ hours and I spent a lot of time looking for secrets (and didn't find them all). It is fun in that old school shooter format and a look isn't going to hurt. There is some fun here.
I'd like to see more from this dev as I think they have a good sense of what an old school shooter is; I just think there needs to be something to differentiate itself from the flood of boomer shooters.
Like I said, pass on paying for it…play it if you already have it.

The poor graphics and style of the model have remained unchanged since the 90s, just like everything else.

Esta bien pero no deslumbra, cumple su premisa de ser un FPS de los 90 con gráficos que lucen muy bien y una música todavía mejor. Podría haber estado un poquito mejor optimizado y si bien las 3 horas de campaña están bien, la cantidad de armas y enemigos se siente un poquito escasa.
Recomiendo comprarlo cuando esta en oferta.
Good pew pew! Proves that a retro-shooter doesn't need to be based on sprites to work. Quite short campaign is but the only complaint.
Old school action, no superfluous cut scenes with poor acting and lame storyline, as is the case with too many "modern" titles.

I bought the game’s CDK from the market for $0.42. After selling the trading cards for $0.2, the game effectively only cost me $0.42. This short game looks like a student project, with inconsistent art style and poor anti-aliasing. However, the gunpaly and gameplay are surprisingly good. I hope I can be part of a similar project after graduation. it is a good game, but toooooo short so I wouldn't recommend spending over $2 on it.

Прошел 3 миссии и остановился на выборе четвертой. Я решил сделать перерыв и вышел. Какое мое было удивление, что когда я вернулся в игру чтобы ее уже добить меня закинуло не в выбор глав, а в третью. Но вот прикол, глава уже зачищена и нажать на ключ чтобы ее завершить главу нельзя. Вот так вот. Проходи главу заново. Ну уж нет. Рефанд.

Decent game, graphics are good, game play is fun, fast paced.
the limited weapon selection felt good and had distinctive uses and feedback.
Complaints is that the move speed almost feels too fast, rocket launcher feels underwhelming, and the game is very short. It took me just under 3 hours to beat.
There is a survival mode but for me, personally, it feels too confined (haven't yet tried all the arenas).
On normal mode it was quite easy.
I would certainly recommend on sale.

Eine gute Mischung aus DOOM und Serious Sam. Macht ordentlich Laune wenn man auf schnelle 90s Shooter steht. Hab es geschenkt bekommen aber es war vorher schon auf meiner Wunschliste. Kann ich sehr empfehlen!
Просто проходная игра. В этой игре нет ничего нового, захватывающего, графического, сюжетнего, гейплейнего. Несколько плюсов: много врагов, быстрый персонаж и под это хорошая оптимизация. И всё остальное недоработано. Врагов много, но разновидности их мало, даже босс всего один. Понизили графику чтобы была хорошая оптимизация и скоростной игры, это хорошо, но остальное надо было доделать. Например сюжет, за всю игру так и не понял против кого сражаюсь? Как туда попал и зачем? Какая у меня цель и мотивация? Тупо ходил и убивал, мыслями что вот сейчас наверно пройду на следующий уровень. "Хорошей игре сюжет не нужен, главный гейплей". Была ли там гейплей? Все что было убивай врагов, найди ключи и пройди дальше. Уровень сложности отличаются тем что враги бьют больнее, аптечка лечит мало и всё.

Un Quake argentino sin multiplayer, con graficos del 2020. No hace falta decir mucho mas.
Honestamente hicieron un gran trabajo, me gusto muchisimo el titulo, no se porque vendio tan poco, es cierto que es un poco corto, faltarian mas variedad de enemigos, armas, escenarios y el multiplayer y un Workshop....
Pero Quizas si sacan una segunda parte seria genial. Tiene logros y CROMOS que mejoran el valor del titulo.
9/10 - DLC se vende por separado como punto que resta, mas lo anteriormente comentado del a carencia del multi.

Just like games should be. Fast paced, full of action and lots of bloody violence! The soundtrack kicks ass.
But for the love of god please fix the glitch that causes you not to fire without hammering on the mouse button ten times to fire 1 round!

Seriously, this game shouts "This is an old school classic shooter!" yet is less impressive than Quake on every level other than the texture size and model detail. Notice how I didn't say it has better graphics than Quake cause it honestly doesn't LOL
Ugly light bloom all over the place with a boring art style that makes this game look like a knock off more than an homage. Boring arena design, unsatisfying gunplay, and a tiny campaign. 15 dollars is highway robbery.

Duke Nukem meets Blood while Doom '95 joins = love the gameplay, levels, soundtrack, basicaly everything...some of the monsters feel familiar while some are super freaky. Also, somebody complained about the game being too short = completely wrong = It took me approx 6 hours to finish the game, dying a lot :)
Short and to the point. Here is gun, shoot. It's not really grand quality but it's a fun short game to play it max twice. It does what it advertises and that's enough. Would reccomend
This is a very average, but pretty indie boomer shooter. The gunplay and level design is serviceable, but nothing particularly stands out from the myriad of other boomer shooters out there.
It's also worth mentioning that while on a technical level it's mostly "fine", there are just enough bugs and oversights present to noticeably affect your experience (a major one being your gun sometimes not firing when expected!)
If there was more than one Doom episode's worth of levels to play through (7 levels + 1 boss level), I could give a light recommendation. Something you can burn through an afternoon in between bigger releases.
But as it stands, there are much better, more fleshed out shooters you can get for Hellbound's asking price.
If you still want to try it out, get it only on steep discount or part of a bundle.
