THE OG Racing Simulation no one talks about that was better than Gran Tursimo 4 at the time - Got it from a bundle called SIMBIN BUNDLE for £6.50 7 games for the price of one. A game from 2006 - pioneered in race simulation physics still works in 2026, has a great ARCADE MODE and SEMI-SIMULATION MODES. How to get it to work. It only works by going into the browse install files and running the game from the GTR app file, not from steam play button, so you have to make a shortcut of your own. - ( Running it with ADMIN , Compatibility to windows XP service pack3 and by adding your VIDEOGUID identifier from Dxdiag.txt in and editing the config file 1kb, and settting the VIDEOMODE to 84, look in the community guides for the setup ). works on an xbox one controller, just set sensitivity between 5%-10% and the setup the throttle and brake in the menu. If you like to see those racing games in the past and what they feel and look like, its very similar to current without the details and ray tracing. Add to my collection as there is no gran turismo on steam. GTR2 surpasses this game though and much more polished in terms of menus and physics.

It's a great racing simulation for its price and can be adjusted to play like an arcade game too thanks to the many options it has. If you don't want to spend too much time tweaking, you can just choose one of the 3 modes on the startup screen ( arcade, semi-pro and simulation ). So it can be played with keyboard, controller or wheel.
GTR - FIA GT is nowadays mostly known among the sim racing community, but when it was released its name was on almost every popular gaming magazine. It's one of the racing games that took the gameplay to the next level, with realistic driving physics and dynamic weather. The weather also affects the driving and is not just for show, the track becomes slippery when it's raining.
The selection of circuits is not as rich as other popular simulations of its time but adequate considering the price. But I like that I can play the old version of Spa-Francorchamps which is not added in newer sims. A few others that I could recognize are the Donington circuit and Enna Pergusa.
The car list however is great. It has Porsche 911s, Ferraris and other common GT cars, but then some other rare ones such as the Mosler, Murcielago R-GT and Saleen S7. The last two are actually some of my favorites.
One negative - the graphics aren't exactly as the screenshots show. The in-game graphics aren't bad, but it seems like the store page screenshots have more bloom, motion blur and antialiasing. One thing that kinda bothered me is that even if I run on a very high resolution ( 5K ) the antialiasing is still kinda lacking. Car interiors look pretty clean though.
Can't complain about the sounds though, they are spot on and I love how realistic the turbo sounds. And last but not least an impressive soundtrack.

If you are getting the Insufficient memory error, do the following:
- Press Win + R to open run, type in dxdiag and hit enter
- Save your information somewhere, open it, find the 'Device Identifier' line, and copy the code within the brackets
- Go to your documents, find and open the GTR folder, and open config.ini
- Paste your Device Identifier code next to VIDEOGUID=
- Save it and go race your silly little cars

This game is pretty damn good, the handling and physics is nicely solid like second one, and overall its quite easy. But the fact of the matter is; this kinda looks like a beta or a alpha version of GTR2 with barely any tracks or cars. if you want more of those particular things, i recommend you try out GTR 2 FIA GT, because it has more content to provide.

Just a warning. I did manage to get it working, but there's a lot of people without the same luck, so beware.
I was never much into GTR cause at the time F1 Challenge was my jam. When I got interested in GT racing GTR2 was almost being released, so I almost skipped this. But this is one of the most important simulators ever and it showed how a bunch of modders could get together, found a studio and release something as good as professional could.

Bad controls, bad physics, bad UI
Loved this game back in the day. Simbin is the only company to ever have nailed the sound of the Saleen S7. Picked it up tonight and it won't run due to "insufficient video memory". Little drunk and the fix is a little too much for my inebriated brain so requesting a refund and picking up GTR 2 instead.

"GTR - FIA GT Racing Game" ist eine Rennsimulation aus dem Jahre 2004.
In seiner Zeit war "GTR" eine legendäre Simulation. Was SimBin da auf die Beine gestellt hat, war in Punkto Realismus eine Macht. Das Fahrverhalten war herausragend ausdifferenziert. Wer ein gutes Lenkrad besaß, konnte in den Genuß eines tollen Force Feedbacks kommen. Die Sounds können heute noch mithalten. Und auch die Grafik ist zwar etwas angestaubt, aber beeindruckt noch immer.
Die Modelle der über 50 verschiedenen Fahrzeuge waren detailreich. Der Fuhrpark reichte von Ferraris über eine Corvette C5-R bis zu einem BMW Z3 M. Ein Seat Toledo GT ist ebenso am Start wie ein Lamborghini Murcielago, ein Saleen S7-R oder ein Lotus Elise. Ein beeindruckender Fuhrpark also mit reichlich schicken und schnellen Wagen.
Die Cockpitansichten der Rennwagen (in einer anderen Ansicht sollte man einen Simulator eh nicht fahren) sind detailreich und vor allem informativ. Zumindest bei den modernen Digitaldisplays werden reichlich Informationen angezeigt.
Simuliert wird viel. So ist der Grip der Reifen deutlich spürbar. Kalte Reifen sind nur schwer zu beherrschen, abgefahrene Reifen beginnen merklich zu rutschen. Auch Wetterwechsel werden dynamisch simuliert. Ein PS-Monster in strömendem Regen auf der Strecke zu halten, ist eine nicht zu unterschätzende Aufgabe.
Die Strecken sind zwar nicht so zahlreich, dafür aber richtig gut gebaut. Klassiker wie Monza, Donington, Magny-Cours und Spa sind mit dabei. Auch in Oschersleben oder Catalunya können wir unsere Runden drehen.
Natürlich sind inzwischen noch bessere Simulatoren auf dem Markt. Gegen Assetto Corsa oder Automobilista kann ein so alter Titel nicht anstinken. Und dennoch ist das Fahrgefühl immer noch deutlich besser und realistischer als etwa in einem "Project Cars".
Vernichtend wirkt aber die Tatsache, daß dieser erste Teil kaum auf modernen Rechnern zum Laufen zu bringen ist. Weder mit der CD-Version noch mit der Steam-Version ist mir das gelungen, trotz einiger Versuche und Tricks. Wer einen Klassiker der Rennspielgeschichte zocken will, sollte lieber zu dem Nachfolger "GTR2" greifen. Der läuft in der Regel auch noch auf heutigen Rechenknechten und ist eh die nochmal verbesserte Version dieses Spiels.

Just starting to play and I can say for the money I haven't found anything better by a long shot, especially if your system (graphics card & memory) are at a minimum.
Je recommande ce jeu à tous les passionés de sport auto... il date de 2004 mais le FFB et la physic des voitures sont au top pour l'époque... un petit bémol pour les spins à basse vitesse qui sera ensuite corrigé dans GTR2.
L'immersion est également génial avec un son et des musiques dans les menus qui sont justes topissime.

O jogo possui três modos. ARCADE, SEMI-PRO e SIMULATION. Arcade para os jogadores casuais. Semi-pro, para os jogadores que querem um pouco mais de desafio com algumas assistências. E simulation para os aficionados por realismo.
O jogo possui gráficos datados. Mas, roda em qualquer PC de hoje em dia, sem que o mesmo possua uma placa gráfica dedicada. A jogabilidade é boa. É possível jogar o game com um controle XBOX, sem maiores configurações (Bem diferente dos SIM RACES de hoje em dia). Apenas é preciso habilitar a assistência de direção para o carro ficar mais controlável em curvas.
Para a galera mais HARD CORE. Esta tudo lá prontinho para usarem os seus volantes, câmbios e pedais. O som dos motores em GTR é maravilho. Cada carro possui o seu som particular. Seja ele fora ou dentro do carro. Uma sinfonia para os amantes dos sons de motores, E não devendo em nada aos jogos de hoje em dia.
Os pontos negativos são que não existe opção de personalizar uma corrida. Onde você pode escolher o número de oponentes, dificuldade da AI e quais assistências serão habilitadas para aquela corrida.
Tudo é pré-estabelecido. Engessando bastante o jogador que se obriga a aprender a controlar o carro sem algumas assistências em modos de jogos com mais oponentes e mais difíceis. O que pode frustrar alguns jogadores mais casuais que querem fugir um pouco dos jogos arcades.
O Jogo é antigo. E tem um bug severo, que causa uma incompatibilidade com o Windows 10. Esse bug faz com que o jogo não seja iniciado normalmente, assim que o jogo é instalado, sendo necessárias algumas horas pesquisando na internet, formas de fazê-lo rodar no Windows 10.
Felizmente durante as pesquisas achei um programa feito por fans chamado dgVoodoo. Que faz o seu jogo “funcionar” relativamente bem, se esse MOD for corretamente instalado. Sendo apenas os mostradores do painel interno do carro afetado. Onde as informações não são mostradas. Talvez isso seja corrigido em uma atualização do dgVoodoo.
Este é um jogo incrível, o mais próximo que um simulador chegou do entretenimento, e o videogame que mais se aproximou de uma experiência real de dirigir. Esqueça os problemas do jogo e apenas dirija.
Um simulador impressionante que os verdadeiros entusiastas das corridas poderão se maravilhar por meses. Mas, que será uma perspectiva incrivelmente assustadora para aqueles que apenas procuram um jogo de corrida divertido. Ele realmente sai de escala em termos de dificuldade.

Après quelques réglage dans les fichiers du jeu en passant par dxdiag...(merci à la communauté), j'ai enfin pu le faire le fonctionner et même à le rendre assez jolie (pour un jeu de 2005 bien sûr) en bidouillant les "videomode". On est évidemment pas au niveau des screenshot photophopés de la page du magasin mais c'est quand même plus que raisonnable avec des cockpit plutôt immersif. Côté gameplay, c'est une simulation "hardcore" qui ne laisse pas le droit à l'erreur (si on désactive les aides évidemment) et qui laisse la part belle aux réglages comme sait si bien le faire Simbin avec des modes de jeu tout à fait classique (essais, week-end, championnat...). En clair, un jeu qui a pris quelques ride mais qui a su garder ses lettres de noblesse.

This was the first game I ever played, and I fondly remember playing this in my early childhood - oh, the nostalgia. This is a great racing simulator, and was so ahead of its time.
Anyway, I am aware that some people running Windows 8 or 10 are unable to get the game to work because of the dreaded screen that claims you need 32 mb of memory in order to start the game. I did some digging on the internet, and managed to find a thread that helped me solve the problem.

I've played it before it was on steam and on older Windows OSes.
Always with a wheel, it's a competitve racing simulation and a fantastic time-consuming game.
I went through a period when it quit working this summer (2018). The game would load but the tracks would not.
I took my knowledge of this game's technical pitfalls and went and copied some of my config lines from Race 07 into my GT Raceing (thats how it's spelled) folder and I had it running yet again. I will play this until Windows won't let it run any more. But for now, it's one of the best ever racing games.

It works fine for me but I found it impossible to win a race in semi-pro and Arcade was too easy.
Good game but it's near impossible to get it to run correctly on modern systems. The infamous "Insufficiente video memory detected. A minimum of 32 MB of free memory required." error is what stops this game from running. I've tried many solutions even the one's in the community hub however to no avail none of the methods I tried on there worked for me.
However if you are certain the methods on there worked for you, please let me know and if you can be of any assistance.
Sadly this game refuses to work on my Computer, so I'll have to give a negetive review.

TLDR: Play RaceRoom instead. SimBin whom made the Race07/WTCC/GT titles offers a variety of older racing games. Standout features are varied. Too dated.
In theory one can make one of the most realistic steering wheel racing experiences using some of the IP Simbin has on offer. I think I remember saying they had attached a variety of sensors on real life cars and translated the data into the engine with impressive results.
Being able to mod extensively seems an interesting avenue to streamline the content from all the products, improve the UI, add more tracks... I would start slow and proceed methodically, starting by hunting down discussion groups online or a fan site.
Setting up a steering wheel is a dedicated passion project that requires quite a fair bit of logistics, it is a bit like VR, where you preferrably have to dedicate a space of your house for it. It is not for everyone. I am glad to own a copy of this series as it does seem to have quite a bit of quality features but the lack of accessibility, age and somewhat obscure qualities makes it best kept in the archive rather than on central display in your permanent library. As such I will remove it to hidden library for declutter along with the rest of the SimBin collection.
Conclusion: There is no shortage of quality racing games using modern engines to pick from, and some have decent handling and physics of their own. Unless you go all out with the simulation project and mod this IP in and out and bust the steering wheel out it is unlikely to really compete or compare all that well in a simple KB+M, regular user type of experience. If i ever get serious enough I'll just go dig back for this game in the archive or get a newer franchise that accomplishes the same thing such as Raceroom

Mais pour ma part je n'ai pas réussi a le faire fonctionné, impossible d'avoir une qualitée graphiques comme celle présenté par STEAM.
Merci de sortir un correctif vu que vous vendez toujours ce jeu...
Car la c'est une galère a faire fonctionné et sans modifications le jeu ne ce lance même plus!
je vous déconseille d'acheter ce jeu, il vos mieu se diriger vers RACE07 ou GTR 2, qui eux démarres et ce paramètres sans soucis.
Malgré que je déconseille ce jeu pour les raisons suivantes : jeu et paramètrages qui ne ce lance plus sur les configurations récentes, je conseille quand même les autres jeux de simulation auto de SIMBIN, ils sont assez anciens mais c'est toujours un plaisir d'y jouer.

Sachez qu'il fonctionne sous Windows 7 Pro 64Bits et reconnaît parfaitement mon CSR Elite, mais graphiquement ça a très mal vieilli... j'entend par la que ça pique les yeux, presque autant qu'un R-Racing sur PS2.
Si vous avez connu ce titre à l'époque, pourquoi pas, mais si vous souhaitez découvrir un bon vieux jeu de course... préférez lui (entre autre) GTL ou GTR2 ;)
donc oui, en sont temps, ce fut un très bon titre (à jouer avec un bon volant) mais la claque que je viens de prend ma rappelé celle que j'avais pris en passant de Wipeout 2097 & Wip3out à un retour au source en découvrant tardivement Wipout (premier du nom) sur Playstation.
J’aurais bien mis neutre (histoire de ne pas avoir à trancher) mais en 2017 je ne peu recommander ce titre qu'a des gens qui on encore un écran CRT en exploitation (et ça ne cour plus les rues depuis longtemps)

loved this game, played it with no problem on old xp pc, i saw it on steam and decided to purchase it, it has never worked, steams fault, or mine, i dont know, just always get the same message, 32 mb, not enough memory or something like that, and yes i have a very good spec machine, as for steams response to my message for help, about as useful as the preverbial chocalot fireguard

I just bought this game and downloaded it and tried to load it to play and it would not play. Got a message saying that my computer did not have enough video memory said it needed 32 MB to work I've had this game before with older video card than I have on my windows 10. In the message that comes up it calls it GTR 3D why?.

bardzo realistyczny symulator wyscigów, jednak to nie dla mnie ja wole arcadowy model jazdy . jednak gra jest warta polecenia.
Даже сейчас, спустя почти 10 лет после выхода игры, вполне можно провести несолько часов за ней. Не мешают даже посредственная графика или нереалистичные звуки, главное - это процесс. Очень порадовала плавная возможость регулировки уровня сложности - от сверхпростого, когда надо только не отпускать газ и поворачивать (тормозит автомобиль сам, в нужный момент и с нужным усилием), до такого, когда даже удержать тачку на прямой становится практически нереальным (по крайней мере, на клавиатуре). Существует масса возможностей тончайшей подстройки всех параметров машин - может, и нудно, но для ценителя бесценно днями ковыряться в ползунках, подбирая идеальные комбинации характеристик. Отдельно надо сказать про сумасшедшие баги, если выехать с трассы - тольок ради них стоит пробовать эту игру, словами это безумие не описать. Например, за границей трассы стоит трейлер. если разогнаться и правильно в него врезаться, он выстоит, как монолитная скала, но тачку как из пращи выбросит высоко в небо, а потом она, кувыркаясь, упадет обратно на землю. Весело!
Broken on Most Windows 8.1 Systems due to errors related to misreading total available Vram. No fix as of yet. Will update if one is found. Seeing as I have yet to actually play it, I can't say it's a bad game, just that it isn't in working order. yet.
Świetny symulator wyścigów samochodów klasy GT. Bardzo rozbudowane i szczegółowe odwzorowanie tej klasy rozgrywek, pełna paleta opcji i ustawień pozwalająca dobrze bawić się zarówno nowicjuszom, jak i zagorzałym fanom czterech kółek. Do tego znakomita oprawa graficzna, ta gra nawet dzisiaj prezentuje się ładnie.
Fizyka odrobinę zdążyła się zestarzeć, interfejs nie jest idealny, gra nie powala też szczególnie fascynującymi trybami gry (mistrzostwa, pojedynczy weekend, praktyka), ale to wciąż bardzo dobra gra wyścigowa w starym stylu.

Żałuję tego 1 euro.
Long in the tooth and superseded by GTR2 but still a very good sim. Really only a necessary purchase for competitionists as GTR2 has basically all the content found in this game plus a whole lot more.
The force feedback settings need to be tweaked, (search for feels real to me for GT legends and use those values.) but once you've done that there's still fun to be had here.

For now, the game just won't launch. I tried copying the Config.ini from GT legends but it just wont start. I tried compatibility mode, run as administrator. Running the shortcut, the .exe... it is just a pain. It just won't let me run the video setup and says I don't have enough memory....
PS: I am using windows 8.1
I brought this accidently instead of gtr 2, back in the day this was a state of the art game however the times have changing and physics engines have gotten better and graphics have gotten better and sadly this has been left in the dust.
I want to recommend this game but sadly it doesnt have that fun factor that it did so many years ago, there are just so many improvements with games like gtr 2 and race 07 that this needs but didnt exist when this was made. Even further games like Assetto corsa or Rfactor give this a run for its money.
Lastly it may say i have little time in this game but ive clocked in many hours into it and sadly its not aged well.
